T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

Question: T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Preferred Solution: T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

When I go into   Device Manager   and right click on the USB keyboard and mouse, there is no tab for  Power Management.  (The tabs available are: General, Driver, Details). I'd like to add/show the  Power Management tab, so I can choose "Allow this device to wake up computer" as described herehttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Turn-on-laptop-from-sleep-mode-without-open... This knowledge base mentions using USB mouse or the lenovo USB keyboard to wake up computer. Both are not functioning since my T500 doesn't show the  Power Management tab in Device Manager  In the BIOS on this laptop, there wasn't any option for wake on USB.Laptop has most recent BIOA (updated today), and all current lenovo updates.

Answer:T500 (XP) - show/enable "Power Management" for USB devices in "Device Manager" -wake on USB

It should wake up on mouse movement or keyboard movement by default. Also, the Power Management tab appears under the USB Root Hub device.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

I have a T500 that has begun to randomly give the "Off AC Power" beep and screen dim, even though it is plugged in using the stock AC adapter. According to Thinkvantage Update, the system is up-to-date on all drivers and software. Has anyone else come across this before and found the cause of the problem?

Answer:T500: Beep and Screen Dim on AC Power

It's hard to diagnose from a distance, but I'm guessing that your A/C adapter is dead or dying.

I just purchased a lenovo Y550 and the only problem I have with it is that there is an annoying beep like one form a fire alarm whenever the battery is running low. There doesn't seem to be an option to disable it in the bios except the beep for removing the power cord. I also tried muting PC beep sound from the control panel. I even tried disabling low battery notification in the advanced power settings for all profiles and it keeps beeping.Any solutions?

Answer:Annoying beep low battery

I had the same problem.  After I upgraded to Windows 7RC, I was able to make the beeping stop just my pressing the mute button on the side of the keyboard.

Essentially this the same issue listed in the Y550 thread (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Y550P-Low-Battery-Beep/m-p/200159#M18937)  After it reaches 10% remaining, the battery begins beeping every ~10 seconds until you plug an AC adapter in.A BIOS release to shut off the beep would be appreciated. As my laptop starts beeping when I'm in class and thats no good. Thanks,Bryant

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

T500 2081CTO - Is there any way to disable the long and extremely LOUD system beep when booting the T500 with a completely drained Ultrabay battery installed?  Disabling the alarms in the BIOS (1.19) does not effect this for me.  It's one thing to come through the speakers but if I have my headphones on and forget it destroys my ears. I had posted this in Accessories however there were no replies.

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Lenovo 3000 N500 4233-78G laptop and I was quite pleased with it...for the most part. One "feature" of this laptop which is extremely infuriating is that it makes a loud beep every 10 seconds (or so) when the battery is low or when its external power supply is connected or disconnected. I have two operating systems on the laptop (Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP) and the problem occurs in both of them. Now, I know that there were many discussions concerning this problem in this laptop and in many other laptops of Lenovo, but still I hope that someone can offer some solution, as I have practically tried everything so far. For example, I tried deleting certain drivers of the operating system so that it can't communicate with the Laptop's speaker, but it didn't help. It seems that there is some sensor embedeed in the hardware which signals the speaker to make these loud beeps when battery level gets low. The BIOS doesn't seem to have an option for disabling the speaker either. Honestly, I'm quite desperate. My main usage of the laptop is in various lectures, conferences and conventions, which means that I often need to use it without any external power supply available. Thus this problem makes the laptop almost useless to me. Therefore, I must instist on getting some sort of solution, even if this solution means extracting the on-board speaker in the laptop manually.

Hi all,

Acer 7740g, Windows 7 HE.
I have this annoying problem that when my AC power is plugged or unplugged it makes a beep.
Muting the sound completely helps, but that's sometimes not an option.

I tried the following and no luck:

Editing a registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound\Beep and changed it to "No".
Uninstalling the Beep device from my device manager.
Turning off my pc speaker, unfortunately, I didn't find where I can disable it.

My sound card drivers are: Realtek 6.0.1.5969

Anyone has another idea?

Thanks.

Nice laptop, but I think it has a serious problem - whenever battery runs low, it starts making a hideously loud beep - the laptop cannot be used in meetings when its running low, so its effectively useless. The Windows Power Scheme options dont affect it - [It appears to be a system/ BIOS thing]The BIOS screen doesn't show an option for it : ( How do I get this to stop? Is there a workaround?

HiAs mentioned, T500 with win7, 32bit. Every few times I put it to the sleep, i.e.. close the lid, after waking up it will set screen brightness to maximum and won't react to FN-home/end. Even from power mgmt utility it is not possible to change brightness. The only way to restore brightness control is to reboot.I checked with System Update and all drivers/components are up to date. I tried to reinstall Onscreen utility and Power Management, but nothing really happen on positive side.Anyone had this issue? How to solve/workaround this?I tried to contact Lenovo support  in my country but they have no idea. They told me to restore from backup or reinstall the system, which by default I can't call any help. Any input much appreciated.Chris

Answer:T500 power management - annoying issue.

Hi Chris,

There was another series that had an issue something like that, and the workaround was to close and open the lid again.

Hi everybody, I just got the X200 laptop, like it very much except for the annoyingly loud beep when the system goes into stand-by. Looking trough this forum I tried many things, like changing the sound settings in regedit to 'no' and disabling the 'beep' plugin in the system settings. No luck so far. An other solution (that sounds useful) is disabling the 'beep on power changes' option in the Power Manager. But...when I open the Power Manager, it displays the welcome/info screen and then disappears! How can I get into the Power Manager??Hope someone can help... Cheers, Hanneke

Answer:Power manager doesn't display - so I can't get rid of the power change beep...

That's a strange one. Run Thinkvantage System Update, or just download and install most recent PM driver and software. Maybe refreshing these will give you PM back. Otherwise, I believe you may also have a setting in the BIOS for the beep. Not in front of my X100 now, but I know I have this setting on my X60s.

This all started because I want to stop the ANNNOYING BEEP that occurs when I plug or unplug the battery charger.I have a G530 U23 running Windows XP.I downloaded and installed "52pn04ww" package, "Power Manager for Windows XP - 3000 G530 (MT 4446 only), N500".After install and restart, I can't find any new power settings anywhere. There are a couple of services running,  PMHandler.exe and PMSveH.exe, but nothing new in Programs list, Control Panel or Device Manager. Under Power Options in Control Panel, "Power Manager" doesn't show up anywhere. There is nothing in the BIOS for this beep, it is an operating system related annoyance. I've wasted about 6 hours with this, tried many things but no luck.  Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Using XP, installed "Power Manager"...where is it? (KILL THE BEEP!)

Hello, I have recently purchased a 3000 G530, and I love it. The only thing that really, really bothers me is whenever I unplug or plug in the charging cable, the computer makes a crazy loud noise. Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

Just bought a refurbished X100e.  I am happy with it, especially after upgrading from 1GB of ram to 3GB. However, there is a beeping high pitched squeal that the machines emits non stop when running on battery power.  It's like 2 or 3 beeps per second, usually in rythem but occasional does it rapid fire a bit.  It is not there when it is plugged in.  It is also triggered when I type or when I scroll up and down with the up/down keys on the keypad.  If I hold down any button, such as backspacing a line or scrolling down a page with the down key, the beeping squeal is given a rapid fire effect for every backwards or downwards action. My power settings are on maximum performance.  I have not tampered with any other settings whatsoever.  I am running Windoes 7 Pro. Is there a solution to this?  Is it a peice of defective hardware?

Answer:x100e low volume high pitched squeal/whine/beep when on battery power

As you are experiencing high pitched squeal beeps while running on the battery mode.

To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your Notebook from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.

I realize my beloved Thinkpad is pretty much an antique, but I've been struggling with the Lenovo power manager utility after a fresh install of Win 7 Home Premium. First off, it seems like the Lenovo PM and the native Win 7 power management can have conflicting values for similar settings (like low and critical battery levels, for instance). But mainly, I can't seem to get the battery maintenance functions in the Lenovo PM to do anything. If I tell it to manage charge level for maximum life, the battery charges to 100% and just stays there. If I use the laptop on battery and put it back on charge, same thing -- it just charges to 100% and stays there. Also, the battery reset function doesn't seem to do anything either. It's kind of hard to tell if it's even running. What seems to happen is that I'll go through the steps, and the large button slowly flashes. Does that mean it's running? But in any case, nothing happens. The battery just sits there fully charged. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello

Here is my problem I have a Compaq presario with a frozen bios screen but cpu ok, mem ok, video ok, nothing is conected and power supply ok.
any ideas?

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Looks like no booting process is going on i checked with external monitor but no display on external monitor also.CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep . when i am trying to stop the machine with poweroff button again one beep before poweroff. Pls sugguest me wht to do the next and what is the real problem . Moderator edit: Masked serial.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

- So my question is should I not enable the "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" option box in the device manager under power management for my USB hub and front desktop ports, and the back USB root hub ports too ? This store built desktop computer has 2 built in USB on top of the case, and a added in 4 port USB hub in a front bay. This setting was set to allow, but when it went off and I then connected a USB flash drive into one, it would not come back on to detect that USB drive, so I then unchecked the allow option boxes on all USB hubs listed in the Windows 7 device manager.

Answer:USB power management in device manager, allow to turn off or not ?

So my question is should I not enable the "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" option box in the device manager under power management for my USB hub and front desktop ports, and the back USB root hub ports too ? Click to expand...

That box should remain UNchecked in all entries in

Network Adapters
in the Device Manager.

Hi, Got this fully updated T500 running Power Manager 3.12 and since an update a couple of weeks ago (1 month perhaps) I'm experiencing odd behaviour from Power manager. For example when I have 2-3 hours left on the battery it suddently drops to 5-6% and beeps loud. This is happening every evening now. In reality I have only 1-2 hours of battery time in total. This laptop is 1 year old and some degradation of the battery is expected but this is ridiculous  I would like to go back to Power Manager 3.10. Does anyone have a link for that? But I have no other suggestion so I would be happy for any you might have!! Btw the battery is reported to be in great shape by Power Manager but does that mean that a battery change would be a vaste of money? Running Vista everything fully updated. I do  not have switching graphics or anything like that...I used to have 6-7 hours of real battery time with this laptop. --Werner

Answer:T500 6-cell suddenly very odd behaviour from Power Manager: Poor battery.

Also you may want to try a battery reset from the thinkvantage power manager.

Question: Annoying beep?

I started to notice two days ago that my computer performs a beep which carries on until I turn the computer off during I'm using the computer. Although I don't think that it's a very serious problem - it's damn annoying.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing it and how I can disable it?

Question: Annoying Beep

My laptop suddenly started beeping this morning (it was fine before), occasionally once, sometimes twice(one long beep, two short beeps - not together; almost random). I tried system restore because it worked for me when it happened to me before; now it won't stop beeping, usually when playing games. Nothing happens though; I keep expecting it to crash but so far it hasn't. It's just that annoying random beeping. How do I turn it off? I was also wondering if it's a hardware failure or if it could be caused by a virus?

Question: Annoying Beep!

Have run Office 2000 for years with no problems. Now installed on new laptop running Vista and everytime I open a document in any of the Office applications, it beeps at me! Any ideas how to stop it? I've turned off all the sounds but this one still escapes. Also, when I try to send documents as e-mail attachments direct from Word or Excel, it doesn't send it as a Word or Excel document but as something which no-one can open.

Bring back XP (and I didn't think much of that either!)

Question: annoying beep

I have this annoying beeping sound that comes up on every web page i view, 2 or three times it will sound at random, like its maybe blocking somthing?? but its not the pop up blocker as ive turned this sound off, ive also been thru the windows sound effects and its not in there either?? I think it maybe a left over of a program (possibly spyware doctor??) that i have removed but the sound is still there?? anyone any ideas?? On another note, I got rid of the adblaster at last by using a spyware program called Xoftspy, it gutted the machine of all the bad bits, highly recommended for those with problems.

Answer:annoying beep

If you think it could be to do with a left over program run a registry cleaner and clean out any files left over from the program

Question: Annoying beep!

Hi! Here's my setup:

P4 2.66
ASUS P4S8X - X
2 x 256 MB DDR 333
40 G Barracuda
Radeon 9600 Pro
1.44 floppy
DVD combo drive

The problem started about 3 months ago. While I was playing BFME (or some other game), a beeping sound would come from my PC after about an hour of gaming. It wasn't consistent though. I could sometimes play for hours and my PC wouldn't make a sound. Everytime I would hear that sound (really annoying beeping sound), I noticed the fan for my power supply would stop working. Upon checking hardware monitor, the 3.3v would read around 3.6 - 3.9 (fluctuating). There are times when it would go 4+. It happens regularly since then. Sometimes, I push the fan blade and it would move then the sound would go away.

The thing is the other day, the beeping sound came up again and my screen went blank while I was again in the middle of a game. So I thought I could restart it but something weirder happened. After the ASUS logo came up, the weird beeping sound came up but it didn't stop. I checked the hardware monitor and it read 3.9+ (fluctuating). I noticed that the longer I stayed, the higher it went. And the annoying beeping sound wouldn't stop. The sound was continuous unlike a few weeks ago (intermittent). I can access Windows but I shut it down immediately thinking it might cause damage to by board.

Any ideas? I'm hoping someone's going to say it's just my power supply because that's what me and my friend think is the problem (besides a power supply... Read more

Whenever I'm in an msn convo and hit backspace until the end of the text, when it hits blank it beeps. It's annoying. I'm not supposed to have any sound, I disabled all alerts or alarms or whatever... It doesn't sound like it's a set sound though, sounds to me like a default machine sound. And it's as loud as however high my volume is at that moment...

Anyone help ? It's probably real simple, I just don't know puters enough

Answer:Annoying beep I want to get rid of

this sound is the one used when your PC boots, too right?

if so, this sound cannot be "not" used. if you have disabled the Microsoft Alerter service, you MIGHT not hear this, but as disabling this service will cripple you to error messages as well as error sounds, you are wiser NOT to disable it.

the sound scheme "No Sounds" should also disable the majority of the usage of this beep. to turn system sounds off, you CAN go to the control panel, click Sounds Speech and Audio Devices, and in the Sounds Tab, pull the box down to see NoSounds as a soundscheme.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

My particular version of XP (MCE) has this annoying problem whereby the system beeps and ignores my first keystroke EVERY time after I use the mouse or haven't typed in a while. It's annoying as hell and I haven't been able to find anyone else who has it or would have any idea how to turn this off. I'm not running any of the accessibility options, and I've even reinstalled the system twice trying to fix it.

Answer:Annoying beep on first keystroke

That's weird. Silly question maybe but have you eliminated the mouse and keyboard from the equation (by substitution)? Not that I can see the reason for these symptoms.Any errors showing in Device Manager?Could be buggy keyboard and/or mouse software if you are using any.Google is NOT the only Search Engine!

Hi, im hearing this annoying beep intermittently from my toshiba, ive had it for over 3 years and in the last 3 months or so this beep started sounding.

It sounds like a number being pressed on a telephone dial pad, its very loud and annoying and happens randomly.

Some days i dont hear it at all.
I've trawled through all the settings for modems and everything, system sounds.

Control panel and programs to no avail, and ive heard it when nothing is connected to the pc to rule out externel gadgets,

Also i've searched this problem a few times and there is no apparant answer, my supermulti drive cannot read cd's anymore but it can burn them, it says that every cd i put in is a blank cdr, it reads dvd's but cannot burn dvds and it wont read dvd ram anymore, any solutions apart from a new drive??

Answer:Annoying beep from Satellite P10-873

Sounds like some serious hardware issue.. did you spilled some liquids over it? Such an sound comes from an key which is pressed continously, this could also happen when some key is stuck due to some dirt in the keyboard or liquids which dried out and became now some kind of "super-key-glue" which lets the keys get stuck.

Did you notice that some keys are "hanging"?
Regarding your drive: did you already tried some firmware update? And whats surely more interesting: which burning programs or cd-drive related applications did you installed?

hey Everybody,

Here's something that's been grinding my friend's gears for some time. He's got an E-machines desktop which starts up with this loud annoying beep. We share an appartment and I can always tell when he boots it up :]

The only solution that I've found so far, was... to disconnect speakers and reconnect after the PC speaker does the darn noise. The thing is, I don't like that kind of approach and so does my friend.

Does anyone know how can we turn it off? Is there some hidden BIOS setting that controls it?

thanx,

I work for a company that uses Windows8 as a base platform for it's application.  We're having issues with touch screen randomly losing touch for no reason at all with the ACER touch screens.
We've been able to isolate some of the problems to ACER touch screen itself not being compatible with the USB power management feature built in to Windows.
For our Win7 I was able to use the below Powershell script to disable all of the USB devices Power management without having to go through each USB device in device manager.
$hubs = Get-WmiObject Win32_USBHub
$powerMgmt = Get-WmiObject MSPower_DeviceEnable -Namespace root\wmi | where {$_.InstanceName.Contains($hubs.PNPDeviceID)}

foreach ($p in $powerMgmt)
{
    $p.Enable = $False
    $p.psbase.Put()
}

This same script however doesn't work for Windows8.  Any one know how to modify the script above to make it work on Windows8??
Thanks!

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. Hi,

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Needless to say but this sound is plain ridiculous. Who was the genius who came up with this idea? Seriously. I have the Y430 and recently installed Windows XP Pro SP3. I remember that disabling the PC speaker in Vista worked, but unfortunately that does not work with XP. With all the suggestions that have been mentioned, I have yet to find a way to be able to disable this power beep: There is no option in the Advanced BIOS menu. There is no PC speaker volume control. Disabling the 'Beep' option in the device manager does not work. I'm tempted to try the BIOS update even though it says it's for Windows Vista only just to see if I could get the BIOS option for this speaker. Would this be a wise choice? Better yet, would it even work?

Answer:LOUD and very annoying BEEP - Y430 XP SP3

hi, Go to panel de control, Sounds, You need to mute the option 'PC SPEAKER', it work with lastest driver in VISTA, and WIN 7. If mute the 'PC SPEAKER' does not work I will try to update the lastest driver available from the lenovo page. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=11 Good Luck, The solution works with a lenovo Y430 the model that has DDR3, I know that you computer might differ, because there is basically two different y430. Remember to mute, for some reason regulate the sound will not work.

I just bought a used thinkpad l430 a few days ago, in great condition, almost no cosmetic defects that would indicate any issues with the laptop. today, I started to get a black screen when turning it on, accompanied by a series of 1-3-3-1 short beeps. according to some other posts and bios documentation, this beep sequence indicates a motherboard or ram issue. however, I was able to get the pc to start up after removing the battery and removing the ac adapter a few times. just now the same thing happened again, this time I also had to do the same switcharoo between running the machine on ac power and battery, and taking the battery out periodically. once I get it to start up, everything runs fine, however, the whole routine that I now have to do to get it to boot is a big waste of time. does anybody know what the issue could be here? at first I thought it was the battery, but it didn't turn on the first time I removed it, only after I removed it a few times. neither is it the ac adapter for the same reason, I can't imagine how it could be motherboard or ram if it runs fine when it finally starts up. I like this computer and I don't want to return it as there is still a warranty on it but not knowing whether it can be solved by replacing something is killing me...

My laptop makes an annoying beep each time I plug in/remove the AC adapter.  Since I spend a lot of time with my laptop on my couch, it's constantly being jostled, such that it frequently disconnects temporarily and then reconnects, which means that I hear this beep *a lot.* The volume level of the beep seems to related to the volume settings on my laptop, but it's not a sound effect, and the beep seems to be coming from inside.  If I mute all my volume settings I don't hear it, but then I obviously don't hear anything else, which is problematic if I'm listening to a podcast or watching a video. I'm looking for a way to disable this beep altogether, but I can't find any way to disable internal beeps in Windows 10.  I see a few other people have had this problem online, but all the solutions I can find involve earlier versions of Windows and menu options which I don't have.  Any help?

Answer:Annoying AC adapter beep on R5-471t

Hi,I am not sure this will resolve your problem but worth a try, go to Sounds(right click speaker icon in Taskbar), in Sound tab, select sound scheme, highlight "Device connect" and change to No sound with drop down menu. You could try different settings in that window but make sure to make note of original settting.

My laptop has started making a short beep sound every few minutes. Not sure how to describe it.It's sort of a warning sound cut short.
Task manager is showing nothing unusual.

Answer:annoying beep noise in vista

Turning off all windows sounds for a short while would isolate software as the cause
If it still occurs a stuck key, high temperature alarm or a low battery alarm
could be the culprit

Hi there

I am very new to all this, any help much appreciated.

When i use Nero to covert and burn an avi movie, the audio is fine but the aspect ratio is out.
So i use tmpeg to convert the avi and get a correct aspect ratio , which is fine, but for some reason ANY VCD I BURN WHERE I HAVE CONVERTED WITH TMPEG i have an audio click/ beep noise through out the vcd. I have even used virtual dub to convert the audio to wav any use that but no difference. I have checked the file after converting with tmpeg and it sounds fine, only when burnt to cd i have the noise, but as mentioned before- any thing burnt that hasnt been coded with tmpeg the audio is fine.(SO ITS NOT THE DVD PLAYER)
I haven't changed any audio settings , could that be where i need to look.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks!

Answer:vcd annoying beep/click noise HELP PLEASE!

LOL
don't use nero

just so i understand:

1.aspect ratio goes screwy when using nero to directly burn avi to vcd
(as you've found, nero is not primarily an mpeg encoder, good idea to change to tnpg or other software specifically designed to encode)

2. using tmpg to encode from avi to mpeg works fine

3. playing the resulting mpeg on your PC - the sound is fine

4. burning tmpg mpeg/vcd to cd produces a click/beep sound on audio

- are you using the standard vcd templates with tmpg?
- have you tried a different burning program?

suggest trying vcdeasy - the free version is now limited, but you can still find (as the author suggests) the unlimited free version on the web - it's version 1.1.5 or 1.1.5.2 - i found it on tucows

see vcdeasy will burn a clean version - then you know it's nero

if the sound error persists, then it's a tmpg setting OR the original avi itself (ie ac3 audio or another codec)

you might also try http://www.dvdrhelp.com for additional tools, guides etc to make sure the whole process is being done correctly

just after I start up my computer, and I press the control "Ctrl" button it makes an annoying beep. I think some other buttons might trigger other beeps like the Shift key. it seems to happen if I press ctrl just after start up.

i run a fujitsu with windows vista. i have heard people in some of my college lectures have the same problem across the hall, making the same beeps after they start up their computers before class and press one of these trigger buttons (control, shift, etc). it is annoying and it sounds like a 1980s crappy computer beep sound. HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT!!??! thanks to all!

I have WindowsXP SP3, Dell Dimension 4700. For the past few days there has been this beep that is fairly loud and very annoying. I have searched this forum and did not find an answer that is like my problem. I have no idea what is causing it. It is there no matter what I am doing, browsing or playing games, etc. Just always there. Please help. I have no virus. Secunia says that my machine is 3% higher score than the  average in Tex.

Answer:Annoying Beep in machine every few seconds

I solved it myself. I don't know what caused the beep but following a  video driver update it stopped.''

For the 2 weeks i was waiting for my HDD my computer fell.. On it's side (wooden floor). I knew it was gona do some damage and i found out what damage it did.. Not exactly though.Once i installed the HDD i went to start up my computer for the first time since the fall.  When i started the computer up there was a loud annoying continous beep / tone.I've tried replugging all the wires in the computer, checking to see if my processor was still in place,  and looked up beep codes.I found that a long continous one was an Over heating.. Which doesn't make any since after i just started up the computer at room temperature.I have no clue what's going on and i came to you guys for help / more infornmation.  I'll be ontop of this topic every second i can get. Thanks,Matt

Answer:Loud annoying beep when comp starts up..

Many aspects of overheating are related to non functioning fans (but not all). A wooden floor is a very hard surface to impact even from only a few feet. The fact that your computer is in a room temperature environment is far less a consideration than what the temperature inside the computer or some components of the computer hardware such as the CPU. As a start i would open one side of the tower and observe the fans when you 1st turn the power on. You may see one (or more) that aren't turning. You can also try while you have the side open to direct a house fan into the open side and see if it will allow the computer to boot. But you are quite right there is likely damage. We hope it is minimal.truenorthP.S. As far as the fans are concerned don't forget the one inside the power supply cage--which you will need to observe through the screening at the rear of the tower.

Answer:annoying beep sound when I boot my PC and Laptop...

Try to identify how many long and short beep. Google to find error beep code from AMI Bios. It could be something minor, but it is better to make sure. Good luck.

Hi, I have this intermittent HD head parking noise + beep, probably 3 or 4 times per hour.I'm using a T400 with Seagate 160G ? ST9160412AS Apparently, this is a known issue by Seagate and DELL at least, see this from Dell website:Firmware 4SDM1 or 5SDM1 fixes clicking noise on Seagate 2.5" 7200RPM HDD's. Is there any plan from Lenovo to bring a firmware ugrade for this HD ?Alternatively, is it safe to run the Dell firmware upgrader ? Thanks.

Hi there.

Some of you might be trying W8 / W8.1 guests using VMWARE -- on a laptop you
might find you get an annoying BEEP from the PC speaker when powering on /
starting up one of these Guests.

To stop this simply add this line into the .vmx configuration file

mks.noBeep = "TRUE"

(I've posted this in W7 forum too just in case people don't see this
post).

Cheers

First off, let me rpeface by saying that I am not entirely sure what type of laptop I have, other than knowing it is a Lenovo Thinkpad. I am *that* technologically challenged. My problem: everytime my computer enters Sleep Mode (by itself or by me), it makes a loud BEEP (one short sound) every minute or so, and will continure to do so indefinitely, until I wake it up from Sleep Mode. Also, in addition to the BEEP, the computer sounds as if it is working (like a motor starts to run or something; like it is trying to turn on). I have started to just MUTE it wile in Sleep, which alleviates the beeping annoyance, but not the fact that the machine seems to be working/turning partially on, which can't be good for it.  Any ideas on why this is happening and how to make it STOP? Thanks.

Answer:Annoying and constant beep sound while in Sleep Mode

I should maybe mention that it is the exct same BEEP sound that you get when entering and exiting Sleep Mode, except that it is happening constantly (whether the computer is open or closed makes no difference).

Folks, I now there is a thread on this issue, but it was over  a year since the last post, and my Disk was not listed. I am experiencing an annoying beep, even with the sound muted, when the Laptop is idle for a few min.I am pretty sure it is the same issue has the old thread, when the heads on the drive are parked, the laptop beeps. I have tested this by using a disk scan tool, .. While the scan is running the beeps stop. I purchased a T520i with the normal 500GB drive.  I took that drive out, and put in a: Seagate Momentus XT  ST95005620AS (SATA) I am running  Windows 7, with all the patches and Lenovo updates ... I can't seem to find any information on the Seagate site ... Any Ideas on how to fix this ? (other then tossing out the Seagate disk) Thanks -Fred

the BIOS doesn't beep during startup but can beep later such as when i hold three buttons at a time

Answer:My computer does not beep on startup but can beep later

Has it ever beeped at POST?

I've had systems that did, some that didn't (probably because I didn't have the system speaker properly connected).

I was just using my PC yesterday, everything is normal, It was hot around 32 ?C I think. Around 3:00 P.M. my PC suffered 2 BSODS, I can't upload the .dmp files because I can't open it. I thought its just overheating so I turned it off and after a few minutes the second BSOD appeared, I restarted my PC and the one short beep and one long beep is sounding. I checked my RAM and tried to switch it to another bank but the beeping is still there. My video card temp was 50-52 ?C before the first BSOD happened. What can I do to fix this?

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink
