Preferred Solution: T42P 2374-Q39 Wireless Problems - Unable to determine exactly what driver I need

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T42P 2374-Q39 Wireless Problems - Unable to determine exactly what driver I need

Bookmark this page, its the entry page to the Lenovo support pages for your 2374-Q39. In it you see you have the Intel 2200bg wireless card so this is the correct driver to use.

Hi All,  I had to reload Windows XP onto my machine because it had loads of bugs in it but didn't have the original disc so had to reload all the drivers.  I bought a drivers disc and have managed to load all that were on there, but the drivers for the PCI Modem, Ethernet Controller and the Network Controller weren't on the disc so came on this site to try to locate them. Could anyone PLEASE lead me through the correct procedure, I am a complete ignoramus with this sort of thing and although I looked at the lists of drivers on this site I still couldn't make head or tail of it.  I do NOT want to download all the wrong stuff and mess up my machine again. I'd be eternally grateful for any help, thanks in anticipation. Kat

Having solved the problem of not being able to see the Adapter (see post T42p 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter Disappeared) using the solution posted by George, the Adapter now remains permanently ON. Using Fn+F5 has no effect to toggle the device OFF. Fn+F5 still works OK for toggling Bluetooth ON/OFF. Any suggestions?

I am having issues with my t42p not displaying install screens, etc.  Properly.  It might open a screen and only show part of the input as if it was minimized.  There appears no way to expand the screen, no minimize or restore down buttons.  This causes problems since often the continue or start button is off the screen.  I suspect it is related to running Windows 7 on this machine as Lenovo doesn't seem to have supported drivers beyond XP for this model.  No where can I find a ATI Mobility Fire GL T2/T2e driver for Windows 7.  Anyone know how to fix or a work around.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:T42P Display Driver Problems

Have you tried running Windows Update?

There was a native FireGLT2 driver for Vista, which I'm pretty certain can easily tweaked to work under W7.

Good luck.

I'm having quite a serious wireless connectivity issue with my T42p (2373-C38) and I simply cannot find a solution for it. The problem is quite strange as well; when I start up my computer I get a wireless connection, then about 10-15 minutes later I'm still connected to the WLAN but there is no more flow of information. Then when I click "Repair" I cannot connect anymore and eventually the computer tells me that it cannot find any wireless networks, even if I am sitting right next to the router. I then have to restart the computer to regain a connection. How is it possible that at one point I am connected, then lose the connection and then it cannot find any networks anymore all of a sudden? First I thought this may be a hardware issue, but it isn't. I have two hard drives, one which has been loaded with the information from the IBM recovery discs and another which has been loaded using the ghost copies from my university. When I use the one with the IBM recovery disc OS everything works 100%. When I switch to my main hard disc (the one with the university information), I get the issues described above. The strangest part is that I have not changed anything and it used to work fine. I tried doing a system restore to about 2 months ago (when the computer was reinstalled), yet nothing changes. All my drivers are updated, all the windows components are updated etc. Does anyone have a solution for this issue? Specs:Windows XP Pro SP3Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN ... Read more

Answer:Help me determine which wireless driver is compati...

since you downgraded your OS from what was installed and acer web site does not show support for that OS I would go to realtek.com for your Lan driver, as for your wireless driver you need to look in your device manager under network adapters and see which one if at all your system is trying to install whether it be intel, broadcom, atheros as it could be any of these, the driver for 8.1 should work in windows 7.another suggestion you could use is a program called slim drivers from slimdriver.com, this program will scan your system for its hardware and give you recommend driver updates and it will download them and install them, I have used this program and it works quite well and it is free of charge.

Hi all, I just bought a used T42 2374-Y1E laptop and went to install XP. The wireless adapter is not recognized and none of the drivers I downloaded work correctly. I tried searching, but the older post don't resolve my problem. I also tried accessing the hotkey to soft-enable the wireless but it does not turn on (light or on the taskbar). I would really appreciate any help on this one. I've been screwing with this for 3 hours now and have never had any problems like this before. Typically, I just go download the driver and I'm good to go. Why does lenovo have 5+ drivers available for wireless???? Thanks

Here's the situation, I got this system as a used office comp, the HD was whipped and cleaned, I have none of the documentation or setup disks that originally came with this comp, I didn't even get a case.  Pretty much the company was done with it, cleaned it and gave it to me.  Not an option to get the setup disks as well. I have since reformatted, partitioned, installed XP and installed many needed drivers...audio, VGA and so on.  The one issue I am having is getting the wireless adapter setup.  Part of the problem I think is I'm not exactly sure what adapter is in this beast...looking at the driver/downloads section for it (if I've got the right driver page even) it seems there could be 4 or 5 different adapters installed in this unit.  Not to mention I'm not the best at wireless stuff, not a noob, but probably just above noob.  To note also, I have been able to get a hardwired LAN connection setup, so I am able to get on the internet but honestly the system is useless to me if I cannot use it wirelessly. Any help would rock,

Answer:Thinkpad 2374-4wu wireless help needed.

The model number of your computer revelas that it has the Intel Pro 2100 802.11b wireless card (very unusual as most T42s came with the b/g card).  In any event, download that driver and see if it works.  You may just want to upgrade the wireless card to a b/g or an a/b/g card for better wireless performance.

I was trying to restore the drivers after a format so I headed to the lenovo driver site and was asked to insert a product model.I own a Thinkpad T42 2374- ZPP as the BIOS says. But according to the site this model should not exist.. I somehow found a general page for t42 2374 models and got most of the drivers there and they do work, but I'm missing the 2.0 USB driver which is also not featured on the USB section of the driver download. There's only a bunch of stuff for win 95, 98, NT and a fix for Vista. I'm running on XP professional, still no SP, haven't updated to SP3 yet because of a Win update error: basically when I was prompted to install the downloaded updates, after clicking "yes" it would automatically close(win update, not windows itself). Somebody got some ideas?

Hi, I have about 8 x T42P Thinkpads - all Type 2373 - KXM being used in a teaching situation. Currently these notebooks are running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. They all have the 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adaptor (In device Manager - it says the manufacturer is Atheros), and have the most current driver I can find for these cards on the Lenovo site. I can get them to connect to a network using WPA and they can see the colleges network which uses WPA2-Personal (AES) - but I can not get a connection to the network. Is the card capable of connecting to WPA2 networks? If so, can some one advise where I can locate the driver to enable this, or advise if they have another workaround. I have the most current driver version available (4.1.2.156 dated 2/05/2007) from the Lenovo website. If not I have to resort back to using the old faithful Dlink DWL-G650 PCMCIA cards in these notebooks. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I've done everything, even reinstalled the XP OS, to try to get my wireless working again. The wireless network is present, and there appear to be no problems with the adapter ("Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter") or the drivers. I can pick up the wireless connection when I stick a wireless adapter card into the external slot, but when I use the internal one and try to connect with wireless signal, it just gives the error message "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network.," then stuff about it possibly being out of range. Since the other adapter hits the network, it obviously isn't out of range. Any suggestions? Any chance that the internal Intel adapter simply "wore out"? Seems that Device Manager would show an error if that were the case.

Answer:T42p wireless problem

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What is 7 character product number of your T42p? It looks like 2668-KHU and can be looked up from the back sticker. Secondly, do you use IBM or ThinkVantage Access Connections? If so, then does uninstalling it and reinstalling your wifi driver make any difference? Don't forget to ensure that "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox is checked on the Wireless Networks tab of the Wireless Network Connection's properties window after uninstalling Access Connections.

Also, does the issue only happen when you put the external adapter in? Further, take a look and do as suggested in the following links:-

I'm experiencing a new problem with my wireless Thinkpad a/b/g 802.11 card in establishing a connection. I've uninstalledAccess Connections 4.52 and am running just the Intel PRO/1000 MT drivers for the Ethernet and the 4.1.2.156 abg drivers. The symptoms are that if the system is disconnected from the Ethernet cable and the adapter goes disabled in Network Connection, then if I am trying to establish the wireless connection it stays stuck showing "Acquiring Network Address". If I manually disable the Ethernet adapter in Device Manager, then the system connects to the network. I can then renable the ethernet and everything is ok. If the Local Area Network connection shows "network cable unplugged", I can still connect. However, if it goes to "Disabled" then the wireless connectivity cannot be established. I can plug the Ethernet cable into the port and the network will come up on wired and then on the wireless! I've uninstalled and reinstalled both set of drivers. Needless to say that Access Connections has a fit with all of this. Anyone experienced something like this??? This system has been running fine since July, 2004. Currently running XP Pro, SP3 since April, 2008,Message Edited by harrisb on 07-08-2008 07:21 AM

Question: T42p Wireless Card

Can someone please tell me what wireless adapters are compatable with the 2373-C96 (T42p)? I need WPA2 and AES and the card in my T42 has neither. I am looking at the 2915 abg, 2200 bg and 3945 abg specifically. Are all of those compatable? Any help greatly appreciated. LH

Answer:T42p Wireless Card

Both the Intel 2200BG and 2915ABG support WPA2 with AES and will physically fit in your T42 (I am using both of these cards in T4x Thinkpads, using WPA2 +AES).   Make sure you get the Lenovo OEM versions of the card, otherwsie you will get an POST 1802 error at boot time.

The Intel 3945ABG card will not physically fit in a T4x ThinkPad.
Cheers,

Hi All; I have a T42p (2373-C96) with funny screen problems. I have the system set to not hibernate, both in the BIOs and the Windows Power Control panel. After the prescribed time set in the power options, the system goes into hibernation anyway, not standby as I want and expect it to. I see on the T42/p driver page 2 different drivers for power management, an ACPI Power Management Driver (31 January 2008) AND a Battery Maximizer and Power management Features driver (22 April 2005). After a recent rebuild, I installed both drivers. Is this what is causing my problems? Are both drivers needed, or is one considered better over the other? If it is not the drivers, then I will begin to suspect a bad lid switch, but wanted to confirm the driver issue before opening the machine up. Thanks in advance

We have a T42p (type 2373-HTU) that had a new copy of WinXP Pro installed on it, wired network is working but wireless is NOT working.  In Device Manager, the network adaptor is showing up as working and it is (Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection) working fine on a wired connection.  The Bluetooth works when you Fn-F5 it on. My problem is that the Network Controller has the infamous yellow question mark on it and I have been through every single driver on the Lenova site for this particular laptop (2373-HTU) and none of them work.  I did follow the install instructions and still have the same problem.  I assume this is why the wireless networking is not working. I do have an icon in Control Panel for Wireless Network setup wizard. There is no off/on switch for wireless on this model. I have been in the BIOS and there is no way to turn wireless off/on in there either.  As far as I know ... this particular model does have a wireless card installed.

T42p (2373HVU) running XP Pro, SP3. Following a recent Microsoft XP automatic OS update, the 11 a/b/g device disappeared from the Network Adapter list (no 802.11 Wireless Radio device is displayed using Fn+F5, only the Bluetooth device is accessible). When I replaced this updated OS with the original OS shipped with the T42p (luckily, I mirrored the original hard drive and kept it as a spare) the 11a/b/g device is present and I am able to access the 802.11 using Fn+F5. Therefore, I believe the wireless LAN adapter is OK. Something happened during the MS update that killed the 802.11 device. Interesting to note that in the Device manager, under Other Devices, I have an Ethernet Controller listed even though there is no other device other than the Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection under the Network Adapters, which is shown to be functioning correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

Just an update to this problem. After searching through similar problems already posted on this board, I came across a link to the following driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67214 I tried this but it did not correct the problem. There is still no 11 a/b/g device listed in the Network Adapter list after this driver is installed and the computer restarted.

T42p running Win XP w/ SP2 was running fine with no issues when the harddrive crashed. I replaced the hardrive and while reloading software I updated to SP3 figuring it was the thing to do. Now it doesn't see any wireless networks. Wired is fine, but wireless it sees nothing. I've played with drivers but nothing makes a difference. Reading through lots of stuff here appears to point to SP3 being the problem but I haven't seen a real fix that I understand. I've read that removing SP3 could be a fix but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to. I'm hoping there's an easier fix that I just haven't found yet. Any help/pointers/insights greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time... T42p type 2374 w/ Win XP SP3Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG using driver 9.0.4.39Access Connection V5.85 (I read where someone rolled back their ethernet driver and that resolved the issue for them. My T42P drops the internet connection each time that the power cord is either plugged into the laptop or the power cord is taken out of the laptop.  Any suggestions?  I can't find any settings that would cause this. The T42P has the Cisco Wireless LAN MiniPCI Adapter.

Answer:My T42P also lost the wireless internet after I reinstalled the system.

Here's your wireless driver:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67214 After downloading it, you must unpack it from C>Drivers>Win>Wlanath Hope this helps.

Is there an easy way to determine and point out the offending driver when there are BSODs that mention a driver is to blame, so I can uninstall it? The BSODs all say "DRIVER_IRQL_ (less or not equal to, something like that)" and this is after just reinstalling Win XP on my laptop, so one or more of the many drivers I installed must be to blame. I'm looking for a way to pin-point the problem driver(s), not roll back and carefully install only what I need.

Restart your computer and rapidly press F8. it should present you a blue screen with a few choices. Choose the first one and then again rapidly press F8. It should give you many options, choose start in safe mode. Then, at Start choose Control panel and open admin tools. Choose computer managament. Open device manager, and select the device which has ! mark next to it, and uninstall it. It should work then.

I am running a T42p with XP pro.  The graphics card is an ATI mobility Fire GL T2.  I have experiences no end of Blue scren errorr and general crashing, since updating Solidworks from SW2007 to SW2008.Any advise appreciated.

Answer:T42p running Solidworks 2008 graphics driver issues

I'm having the same issue, but with a T43P with an ATI Mobility FireGL V3200.  I managed to get the desktop Catalyst drivers to install, but I'm not happy with their performance.  They don't crash and they have a good frame rate, but when I rotate the model, it doesn't rotate responsively with my mouse.  It ends up lagging my mouse and acting unresponsive on models that SW2007 and my old graphics drivers could handle without blinking an eye.

Hi, I have a T42P which has run wireless for years with no problems. All of a sudden it stopped working. It has a very good signal strength but hangs when "acquiring a network address" I have updated the driver for the Intel PRO LAN 2100 3B to 1.2.5.37. I am running XP SP3. I have 3 other wifi devices that connect to the network without any issues Any help gratefully received thx

Answer:T42P Wireless Stopped Working - can't aquire network address

Assuming you've already tried rebooting the computer etc., try setting a manual IP-address and DNS, and see if it works then. If it does, it's the router, most likely - you could also try and restart that, just to see.

I have a Thinkpad T42p that I have put Windows 7 on and most everything is working except for sound. I shows it has the Analog Devices AD1981A AC'97 SoundMAX Codec (Full-duplex) AC97 2.2 compatible as shown in the specs and when I ask W7 to upgrade the driver it says I have the latest driver and that the device is working, but no sound. I have removed and reinstalled the device, still no sound. It isn't muted, or anything simple like that. Also, the sound controls at the top of the keyboard don't seem to have any effect. Any ideas of what to do? Other than sound, W7 runs great on this machine. Aero, etc is enabled and it boots and closes quicker than XP... Thanks for any help.

I have the ThinkPad T60p (2007 model) and Lenovo's spec sheet says it supports up to 4GB but not on the Intel 945PM and GM chipsets. However I'm unable to tell which chipset I have. I tried Belarc and it didn't mention any of the chipsets that Lenovo mentions. Does Windows (XP) or Lenovo have a utility I can use to identify this or all of the hardware I have?

Answer:Max RAM? Unable to determine hardware

Welcome to the forum!

While your ThinkPad will recognize 4GB of RAM in BIOS, only 3GB will be usable regardless of OS used, due to a chipset limitation.

This holds true for all R60/e, T60/p, X60/s/T and Z61e/m/p/t ThinkPads.

Hi,
this has been a long standing issue.... I have never been able to send emails using an SMTP mailer. Never!

I am on a Mac (with Parallels). I use Bluehost for hosting. I have even tried a VPN to get this resolved and nothing works. Ever. But I am getting close to the heart of the issue after many years of trying (This issue has financially crippled my business - so any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated)

Here are some of the things that I found online that may be of use...

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/317012-unable-connect-remote-server.html

Also I saw something relating HIVE from Microsoft which relates to user profiles

I am at my witts end trying to resolve this.

Thanks

Been receiving numerous BSOD for months. I never was able to determine the exact cause the first time. Most of the time the error occurs during a game such as Skyrim, Diablo 3. However, sometimes the error happened when watching videos on YouTube or even while idle.

Every time I thought I fixed it, I get a new one. Most of the time it was IRQ less than or equal. I swapped to an older card and it was less frequent, but still got them. Im back to the original card and still get the errors. Sometimes going days without errors, sometimes cant even go 20 minutes without one.

Im a bit lost in the dark on this one, documentation on the web point every direction, blaming video drivers, windows programs and even wireless adapters.

Occasionally, my entire system will just hang and either be forced to restart, or, very rarely, it will be able to regain control and continue working. I've ran memtest and memtestx86 to determine if the cause is my ram, but both tests showed the ram is working fine. The cause could be my GPU, an ASUS R9 290, but I have already done two RMA's to have the card repaired.

To get a bit of insight on these BSOD's, my system is very unstable for most games. When running Rust, my system seems to be extremely stable and can run the game for eternity. Whilst watching videos on youtube, the system is somewhat stable, the potential of a crash is still there, but I am free to do as I please for hours. Now, when playing other games, such as: League of Legends, Garry's Mod, Fallout: New Vegas, Bordelands 2, the system is extremely unstable. The most I can get is a few hours and crashing is extremely frequent.

I have been told that doing a bios update fixes most problems of an unstable system, but my motherboard rejected the latest bios that I tried to use in the update. I am afraid I have nothing left up my sleeve, and thus, must turn to these forums.

I have used the DM Log Collector program, so the ZIP is attached below. I am hoping to have this problem resolved soon as I must escape this elo hell in League of Legends and reach my true potential: Challenjour.

Answer:Strange BSODs, Unable to Determine Cause Alone

So let's go through all that I do know and what I think I know.

System is somewhat unstable. BSODs are occurring a few times a day and seem to be reducing their occurrence as the days go on.

When the system crashes, there is not Blue Screen displayed, the system automatically restarts.

It would appear that Google Chrome could be possibly causing these crashes as I am able to play games for a longer period of time with Google Chrome closed. When it is open, the system will crash more frequently and even crash whilst I am watching videos or looking on various forums.

Some games retain stability for longer, Rust, World of Warcraft. Other games have some stability to them, League of Legends, Fallout: New Vegas. And other games will almost always crash within the first hour, Garry's Mod, Borderlands 2. So these crashes really depend on a factor. A factor that I do not know because I cannot read these .dmp files and someone has yet to view this thread and read them to me.

It's really a game of guessing and I am losing.

Heya!

I seem to be getting the BSOD when playing games, most recently during a game of Dota2.

When the BSOD does occur my computer hangs and a weird, electronic - it's hard to describe - whining sound comes through the speakers.

I've run the SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe as per the instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:BSOD Unable to determine origin

Hi bickas.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
I would suggest you to uninstall Viscosity Virtual Adapter V9.1, at least as a test.

Code:
Unloaded modules:

ETC.

I reviewed a similiar situation in another post and am going to try those tecniques.

Answer:My Dell 9400 is infected, but I am unable to determine by what.

That slow start could be caused by too many items in startup, a failing hdd, a very fragmented hdd or malware.
Suggest you backup all important files or create an image of the entire drive and store it on an external medium. If the
hdd is failing, the more you use it the more likely it will become unbootable and unable to recover files.

Use CCleaner to cleanup the crud. Once you have done that open CCleaner and click on Tools and choose Startups.
At the bottom of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you post the list of programs presently starting up
at boot. Post that list back here.

After you have backed up the computer and posted the list of startups you can run some programs to hopefully find and
remove whatever adware and malware is on the computer.

Use the instructions for Rkill, MBAM, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, and Eset online scanner in your previous topic for a different computer.
Make sure that all active security programs are stopped from running/ disabled before running the scans.

Hello,My laptop auto updated to windows 10 and I did not like it. I was also having a lot of issues so decided to start fresh and go back to windows 7. I reinstalled Windows 7 proffesional 64 bit. It is working great but I can not seem to find the correct wireless driver.  I have tried all of the ones listed for this model, as well as some I found listed under 2000 series and still no luck. There are some other drivers missing as well. Looking for any help. I tried a post that had me reset bios to default, worked for some but not for me. Tried a post that had me go through recovery, options they said to use were not there though.I never had issues before and this is not the first time I started fresh and had to reinstall the drivers, in the past though everything I got, from the HP support drivers lists, worked fine. Here is an image of the drivers that are missing: Thanks,Charles

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205 that was dropped while running and the hard drive crashed. I replaced the hard drive and used the System Recovery discs that Toshiba sent me to restore the laptop to an out-of-the-box condition. Everything seems to be fine, except that the drivers for the wireless adapter are not installing correctly. Vista only sees it as an "Unknown Device" under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager. I tried installing the driver manually from the Toshiba web site, but it wouldn't take it; I tried letting Vista look on the Internet itself, through a LAN connection, to try and locate the drive but it reported that it couldn't find a driver...

Toshiba is telling me that the laptop has to be factory serviced for a defective wireless card, but I have trouble believing that since this same technician also told me that unless I updated DMRI, DRMI, DMI or something like that on the hard drive, then it "wouldn't accept all of the information written to it." I've been doing computers for twenty-five years and, unless I am missing something, I have never heard of such a thing!

Is there anything else that I am missing or that anyone knows that I am doing wrong? I already got paid for replacing the hard drive and restoring the system, so I am having to do this for free. I really need some help here. Thanks....

Would be most appreciative if you could help me identify this ransomware.  It has infected both my mother's and my father's computers.  I am only able to provide a screen shot of the ransomware message, which I uploaded to the ID Ransomware tool.  Unable to figure out how to attach the screen shot to this post, however.

It is a white text, blue background message, with two additional warning popups from a "Microsoft Support Desk" that provides a toll free number to call.  It does not ask for money in the message, but my father (unfortunately) did call the number, at which point they asked him for a lot of information about his computer and network settings, and eventually were able to take control of his computer by doing a screen share, at which point my father says the cursor was moving around on the screen by itself and lots of windows were being opened and changes were being made.  Then, the "help desk" people demanded money and threatened to report him to the authorities if he did not pay a fee for them to fix the problems, citing evidence of "illegal activities" they had located on his computer.  My father is a 71 year old retiree with not so much as a parking ticket his entire life!

Thanks very much in advance for your help

Hi,

Every time I try to install Realtek Wireless LAN Driver 2023.17.731.2015 using Toshiba Service Station, the programme starts and the permissions window comes up, I click yes but nothing happens. No other window appears, and the update is still in Service Station as if nothing has happened.
Are there any fixes for this?

I'm using a Satellite L50-C

Thanks for any info

Answer:Satellite L50-C - Unable to update Realtek Wireless LAN Driver

This could be program interference, first go into your firmware settings in your BIOS, go to security and turn off secure boot. This can sometimes prevents programs from updating. Then perform a clean boot, follow these directions to do a clean boot https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
Then turn off your antivirus and firewall completely and perform the update again.

I recently reinstalled the Windows on my laptop, HP pavilion g6 1313ax. Once I did that, I noticed the wifi was not working. I opened up Device Management and It had the yellow exclamation points on Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, PCI Device and SM Bus controller. I thought it was a driver issue so I downloaded the corresponding driver from the HP support website but to no avail. The driver was not getting installed. It would open up the setup wizard and close abruptly. Then nothing happened. I downloaded the driver from the Mediatek website too, and the installation process got completed but there is still no change in the Device Manager neither is the adapter visible in the Change Adapter settings in the Control Panel Networking and Sharing Center.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I need this very urgently.

Hi guys. Okay I have recently formatted and reinstalled windows xp professional on 15 pc at the school where I work.
Everything is working great, infact there is such an improvement in performance that some students thought we had upgraded the pc's over the holidays.
XP has picked up all the hardware and found drivers for everything except the sound cards.
All the sound cards are onboard. How do I go about finding out what sound card drivers I need to download off the internet?

Hello:

I read that the "INTEL Bus Master IDE Driver v3.02" is for use only with the operating systems . . . Windows 95 Retail v4.00.950 and Windows 95 OSR1 v4.00.950a.

The "MICROSOFT Bus Master IDE Driver" is for use with the operating systems . . . Windows 95 OSR2.0/2.1 v4.00.950b and Windows 95 OSR2.5 v4.00.950c and Windows 98.

I have WINDOWS 95 OSR2.5 v4.00.950c.

QUESTION:

How can I discover whether I have "INTEL or MICROSOFT" BM-IDE Driver on my system?

Is there someplace in the REGISTRY ( or somewhere else ) that states which one is on my system?

In DEVICE MANAGER - Hard Disk Controllers it says:

Intel 82371AB/EB PCI BM-IDE Controller
Primary IDE Controller ( dual fifo )
Secondary IDE Controller ( dual fifo )

IF - I am using INTEL rather than MICROSOFT . . . am I supposed to use the "Intel BM-IDE Driver v3.02" INSTALLER, to remove the "Intel BM-IDE Driver", so that the "MICROSOFT BM-IDE Driver" can be manually enabled ( or is this ONLY if I have Windows 98 with the Intel BM-IDE Drivers ? )

Is this correct - and do I need to do this on my described system?

Finally, which file ( IS ) the "Microsoft BM-IDE Driver" that is supposed to be "native and already present" with my operating system?

Thank you for any information.

hi Sayantan,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Can you try to:
1. Click Start > Run > type services.msc. Navigate to Wireless Zero Configuration set the status to Started
2. Click Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc. Navigate to Network Adapters and check if the wireless card is properly installed. If you don't see any and you see Network Controller on Other Devices, your wireless card driver may not be installed. Download and install Aida 64 Extreme to identify the WLAN module and the right wireless driver to install(see spoiler for example)

Ok. So my question is how do you determine if your using a open hotspot or not..legally or not

For instance, In my neighborhood my neighbor has a wireless connection in his house that isnt secure and is broadcasting, I could cruise the internet from my house if I wanted to on his nickel, but I dont attempt to "enter" his network. Is this legal to use his bandwith because he's broadcasting? at the surface I have no idea if he did this intentionally or not, I doubt he did and is just one of the millions who hasnt turned on WEP but at the same time do I have to ask ( forget about the polite part of it) but .. I also can recieve a signal from the local coffee shop just around the corner which I know from going in there markets itself as a hotspot. but what about the donut shop next door that dosent advertise..

Answer:wireless hotspots - how to determine if legal to use

If a bank leaves and armored car unmanned and open with no security is it still stealing? yes. It not smart but if you take something thats not your (you haven't been given specific permission to use) then it should be consider illegal. Also if you have to ask .......

I am a total newbie here and looking for some help with PC problems I seem to have developed that my simple PC skills don't quite grasp.

I started having problems with my phone software recognising my smart phone and thought the phone was the problem. All other USB equipment (speakers, web cam, wifi booster) are working fine so I thought the phone was the problem.

My restore points seem to have vanished (another issue!!) and I think when I last backed up my phone 2 months ago I tried to free up space and might have deleted something important in error

So I checked this morning and the USB ports that are failing and showing under Portable Devices rather than USB controllers are HS - CF card, HS - MS Card, HS - SD card and HS - XD/Sm. I think this woud seem to be a problem with the media card? Or am I wrong?

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and used trouble shooting and this morning tried going through server clean up via control management. No issues came up via the control manamagement but the trouble shooting is identifying a problem with the drivers but cannot seem to reinstall them and they just come up with the red cross next to them after trouble shooting.

Apologies if this does not make sense, I only really know the basics and have relied on system restore in the past but it does not have any restore points at the moment.

Any help would be very much appreciated as I now have a phone with nothing on it and a back up on this PC I can't ... Read more

Answer:Problems with my card driver and some USB drivers, unable to fix!

Hi mate, welcome to Seven Forums. Right, first thing's first, we could do with knowing your system information (most importantly your motherboard and chipset) as this will help in identifying drivers for your system. To get this information easily download Piriform Speccy, once installed and run please take a shot of the window containing your information using the Snipping Tool. Then upload and post the screenshot following this tutorial.

Also, we could do with seeing your Device Manager. Right click on Computer (either the desktop icon or on the right of your Start Menu), click Properties, click Device Manager, then expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section (an example is shown below). Then take a shot with the snipping tool and upload it to your post. This will show if there are any issues with your installed hardware at present.

I was wondering if there is software that can show me what process(s) might be running or causing a program to stop functioning.I am using Cakewalk Sonar 8.3 (audio/midi recording & playback software) on my Dell Inspiron M6400 laptop.  During playback of midi files using VST and DXI synths, playback may stop at any given moment.  It doesn't happen to often.  Maybe once every few hours.  We use this during performances so if this happens during a performance, I must restart sonar.  Fortuneately I do not need to reboot the computer but it still is a problem.  This laptop is used only for my music and is not connected to the internet.  WIFI is disabled and all unnecessary functions have been disabled.  I would like to find a way to see what processes or services are running when Sonar locks up.  It would be very helpful is there is some software that could be running in the background that would identify running processes or services.  In this way, I may be able to isolate what may be interfering with Sonar.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksJan Dell Inspiron M6400 3.06 mhz   1gb  1067mhz ram   Roland UA101 usb external DAW.

Hello.  I recently purchased a refurbished U510 from the lenovo outlet, and have had a few issues with the touchpad.  I have been reading the forums and it appears that there have been 2 types of touchpad installed on the U510-- an Elan manufactured and Synaptics manufactured touchpad. How can one determine which of the 2 is installed on the laptop?  Further, how can one determine what drivers for the touchpad are installed?  I tried running Belarc advisor for the information on the hardware, but it did not specify the manufacturer.  I also searched online but could not find an answer. If anyone can give me advice, or direct me to somewhere, I would appreciate it.  Thank you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3847.  The monitor no longer shows color, it is black and white - I bought a new monitor and also tested the monitor from my other computer. all three monitors are black and white so it is my computer. I have tried diagnosing from Dell's diagnostic page. All the tests I ran said my computer is fine. One test took 10 minutes, it looks like it tested graphics - but not the COLOR. I put in my expired express tag, and it identified my computer and gave me a list of updates.  I installed Dell Digital Delivery application update, Dell Update Setup because those were dated 2016. I tried to update HD 4000 Series Graphics Driver but it gave me an error message. Said that driver was not verified for my computer and returned me to Dell's Diagnostic page. I tried that 3 times. I'd like to know how I can find out what my graphics card or video card is and how I can get an update for it. I assume that my monitors are all black and white due to something on this Dell computer. It has been black and white for about 2 weeks.

Hey I believe I am experiencing some problems with what I believe to be is a driver. The computer specs are as follows:

-HP Pavilion dv6000
-Running Windows Vista SP1 (32-bit)
-AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 1.60 GHz Processor
-2 GB of RAM

In the device manager under Network Adapters there is only one listed and it reads “NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller”
I am not getting that little icon in the task bar with the computer showing wireless even exist in the computer.

I have a 2002 Dell Latitude D600 with a Windows XP OS that hasn't been used for a while, and have tried unsuccessfully through multiple attempts to connect to the internet via my wireless router at home.

1. Using the built-in wireless card (TrueMobile 1300 Client Utility) - confirmed the signal was received, but when I opened the network connections window there was nothing (blank window)

2. Plugged the ethernet cord directly into the laptop - still nothing

At this point, I began searching online and found this site.

3. Tried following the instructions from another fix:

- Start/Run
- Cmd
- Ipconfig/release
- Ipconfig/renew

Error Message ? An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request timed out. No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its media disconnected.

As an aside, I also plugged in an external hard-drive to move some old files and the hard-drive is not showing up in the "My Computer" window.

So, I'm now trying to determine if the laptop is salvageable?

I appreciate any insights the community may offer to assist.

Answer:Unable to Connect to Internet, Wireless Not Working & General Problems

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager any devices with yellow marks need drivers installed. On an internet computer go to the Dell Drivers site for you Latitude D600 model and download the Chipset Driver, Network (Broadcom Driver and Wireless) and any other drivers that have yellow marks in Device Manager. Save them to a USB Flash Drive or burn them to CD and transfer them over to this computer and install them starting with the Chipset driver first.

Hi to all,

This is my first post here and glad to be a part of this community.

I am currently experiencing BSOD from time to time, although not frequently. I am able to detect that my memory is the main cause of this. I have 2 512 memory modules, and I have removed one module, which I detect is the faulty one.

Now, I bought a new one, 1 GB, and now my memory totals up to 1512 MB (thats 1 gb + 512 mb). But the BSOD keeps re-appearing again. But not that frequent. This 1gb of ram is from Kingston and the other 512 is a generic one. My motherboard manual also supports the Kingston module, but I can't still pinpoint the problem.

I am asking for advice on how to clearly detect memory problems. I also tried experimenting with the Memtest program, which I still have no idea on how to use it well.

http://www.memtest86.com/

I'll try to do some other tests, like swapping the two memory modules or by removing one and checking out how it will turn out.

thanks and god bless.

Hi,

This is a strange one and I'm not sure where to go with it.
I installed a wireless NIC in my main desktop machine (x64 Ultimate)

The little tray icon reports that it has connected correctly (and I can see the local network, so it appears it has) , when I hover over the little tray icon, it reports I'm connected to "My Wireless Network" and taht full Internet access is available.

All good so far, except... I cannot browse teh internet.
I can browse the local network but I cannot browse the internet.

The network diagnostics, say it can't find a problem.

When I go to adapter settings, click "Configuration" this list of "options" down one side contains 3 or 4 items.

An Identical card in another x64 machine of mine has 8 or 9 options in this list.

The implication is that the driver sin't being loaded correctly.

I have updated the driver but nothing seems to have a made any difference.

has anybody got any ideas?

Sorry for the long firat post.

TIA

Answer:Wireless NIC driver reporting no problems

Hi all,

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z510, running on Windows 8 64-bit.

When I bought it, I had trouble connecting to one particular wi-fi connection. The laptop worked fine with other connections, but it didn't work well with this one connection (that my other laptops could use no problem).

It would basically connect and work well for a while and then suddenly stop working. And then I would have to reset my adapter for the connection to work again. So I looked online and saw that a lot of people had problems too. I tried all the fixes - changing the power, the DNS, rollback, resetting the TCP/IP all that. Nothing worked.

Finally I found this fix from these forums. And from that thread, there was this link to the Lenovo forums.

The basic idea of the fix was:
Boot into bios and disable secure boot.
1. Boot in safe mode.
2. Uninstall wifi driver from device manager. Be sure to check the box that says "delete ...".
3. Reboot and let windws 8 install it's own wifi driver.
4. Connect to internet by supplying the ssid and passphrase.
5. Disable bluetooth.

So I tried it. First I booted in safe mode and uninstalled my wireless adapter (Broadcom something) from Device Manager. Then I rebooted my laptop.

But there's no Windows 8 wifi driver being installed? The link said that it would auto-install, but I'm not getting anything. And now I don't even have a wireless adapter, and can't get it back. I tried to boot into bios and disable secure boot (because I skipped this step ... Read more

Try this..

1) Boot Windows into normal mode.
2) Open device manager > right click "Network adapters" & select "Scan for hardware changes"
3) Windows should detect the wireless card & install the appropriate driver.
4) reboot
5) try connecting the to wireless network

Answer:Lenovo T61 Wireless Driver Problems

Hi nomadicglobetro, welcome to the forum,

according to the support site your system didn't have a WLAN card from the factory, it was upgradeable meaning that the antennae were there, but no card;

ThinkPad T61 (6458-WY5)

T5470(1.6GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1280x800 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, DVD, Wireless upgradeable, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32

If you are sure that the system has a WLAN card, i.e. it was added later, have you checked that it is enabled in BIOS and that the hardware switch on the front edge of the system is turned on?

Also, to check exactly which card you have if you have one, woulod be to take a look at the card itself and post the FRU number from the card in the boards; members will then be able to tell you which driver you need.  Instructions on removing the keyboard in order to be able to see the card can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual (5.1MB)

Hi, I have a T43 (2669-42G) with Windows Vista, and I am trying to install a driver (7ywv11ww) for the internal wireless network card. When I run the setup program, it stalls right after accepting the terms and conditions, using the CPU fully, but not installing the driver. Do I have the right driver? And what can I do to avoid this problem? Hope someone can help here - thanks in advance... k1979

Answer:Problems installing T43 wireless driver

k1979, welcome to the forum, your T43 originally left the factory as wireless upgradeable. This means that you either don't have a wireless card or one has been added at a later date. I suggest you have a look under the palm rest to see if you do have a WLAN Mini-PCI card installed. If one is installed it will have an FRU number on it, ( 7 digits/letters prefixed by FRU), enter the FRU number in the search box at the top of the Lenovo site and you should hopefully be able to identify it and find the correct driver.  Instructions on how to remove the necessary hardware can be found here. Hope this helps

I have a Marvell Libertas 802.11b/g wireless card. After about 2 hours of searching for 64bit drivers i turned up empty handed. so i downloaded drivermax to see if it could find the drivers it found the drivers and installed to my knowledge successfully but i am getting an error code 10 on the wireless card (card can;t start).
I am wondering if any one know where i can find 64bit windows 7 and vista drivers for this card
card details as follows
THIS MODEL NUMBER WAS TAKEN OFF THE CHIP THAT EXACTLY HOW ITS WRITTEN ON THE CHIP

Answer:Wireless card driver problems

May I suggest, uninstall and remove the driver, download Unknown Devices, and find out what the Hardware Id and chipset is. Even though its stamped with that info, it may not help.

Hey there,I have two problems:I uninstalled Vista to play XP and its running perfectly well, but I dont know which sound card I am using (I am using an IBM notebook T60p BUT I bought it off a third person who changed the original hardware)I tried device manager, and this Divx thing you type in Run (I think DIAXG or something) but both dont give me information about the name of the sound card I am using and I REALLY dont want to open this laptop.the other problem:I gave C: (where I installed all system files) 5gb of space. Which is more than enough for windows. Unfortunately new programs tend to install themselves on C: is there any programm or something that controlls the amount of programms being installed on C: ?A good start for that would be a programm that changes the auto paths in which programs tend to install themselves from C:/Program files/ to D:/Program files...Thanks for the help in advance ;)

Answer:2 Problems: Determine my Sound card + Disable C:

Download and run click here then look under Devices/Sound in left-hand column.click here this one allows you to re-size and/or work on Partitions. As far as I know there is no program that auto-changes the install path. But there is always the Browse button where you can change C: to something else.

I have a Z570 with Windows 7 64bit which I bought about 2 years ago (Aug 2011). The hard drive recently crashed so I took it to Future Shop and they put in a new one (I don't know the specs of it, but if you need it and can tell me how to figure it out I can do it). I can't seem to get the wireless internet to work. It keeps saying adapter isn't found. I have to use wired internet for now. I've reinstalled the wireless drivers found on http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html but nothing has worked. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Wireless Internet adapter/driver (?) problems

Hi xxorianna,

It looks like an issue with the Energy Management driver. It is needed to enable wireless. Please install that, press FN+F5 to enable wireless. Then install the correct Wireless Drivers. Check if it works. If the issue is not resolved, please post a snapshot of Device Manager and PM the laptop serial number.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and only found it when I discovered a problem on my laptop using TuneUp Utilities. The problem is that my JumpStart Wireless Filter Driver is faulty.
I went to device manager, as instructed, and found that the JumpStart Wireless Filter Driver was showing a problem and when I checked the properties I found this message: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"
I am no it guru but I do have a good basic understanding of computers and am very good at following directions. Any and all help provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

So I have this v570 laptop that's a couple years old. Something has been done to the computer recently (formatting, resetting, something?) as far as I know a different edition of windows 7 has been installed and I believe the drivers had to be reinstalled. But I'm honestly not even sure, it was my friend who got the laptop to work again not me.  The model is 1066, it's core i5 i5-2450m cpu @ 2.50 ghz. I don't know what other info might be needed but I'll tell you whatever you need to know.  after the laptop was reset everything works fine, it's fast and everything all the drivers work except the wireless+wimax 6150. I've tried removing them and downloading the driver I need, tried downloading the intel tool thing that updates your wireless driver automatically, everything I try it just won't install properly.  I kind of think the actual driver chip thing is no longer working but it was fine before the computer was reset. I made an account on this site just to try and get help with this problem because I've been unsuccesfully trying to fix it for a while now. Any other information you need about the specs of the laptop, anything else I'll respond as fast as possible and tell you.  Any help would be really really appreciated. Having to plug an ethernet cord in to fully use this wonderful device is upsetting.

hi rrqu,

Welcome to the Forums.

When you run the Intel Wireless WiFi Link Driver, do you get any specific error during the installation?

If no error occurs during the driver installation, can you open the Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel Wireless 6150 (right click > properties) and ensure that the device is working properly and check if you're able to detect and connect to a Wi-FI network.
   - Sample image

Other thing sthat you can try:
1. Disable the Wi-Fi device in the BIOS then exit and then re-enable it back.
   - Link to picture

2. Update the BIOS to version 43 as it list a bug fix for the Wi-Fi as discussed in this article.
   - BIOS v43

I'm using a Windows XP, SP2 machine, 2.4 GHz, 1Gb RAM. I recently installed a D-Link AirPlus G Wireless network adapter. Due to a silly mistake on my part, I physically installed the card before installing the driver, something the user's guide tells you not to do, but usually no major drama, right? When the device did not behave as it should have, I compounded the mistake by using the Windows Device Manager to uninstall the drive rather than the uninstall routine in the start menu folder for the card. I don't know if this is what has caused my subsequent problems. Anyway, although the card now works, I am plagued by three problems. Firstly, when Windows starts up, most of the time it sits for several minutes on the wallpaper image before any icons show up. Secondly, periodically, the machine suddenly 'forgets' that it has been told about the card, and comes up with the 'found new hardware' wizard. Arrrggghhh!! I then have to go through the whole damn process of reinstalling the drivers and utilities again to get the card working. Finally, I can not boot into Safe Mode for some reason - the on-screen startup log gets half way through loading the various bits and pieces then suddenly the machine resets and I have to boot normally. Weird, I reckon - since when is safe mode harder to start up than normal mode? D-Link's technical support have been no help. They tell me to call Microsoft technical support ha ha. Do I need to mention how thor... Read more

Answer:Wireless network card driver problems

 Hello & Welcome to TechSpot

You could try loading up a restore-point that's older than when you first put the card in, (remember to take out the card first though) and then do the install routine the correct way...

If that doesn't fix the problem, you're going to have to uninstall it manually...
First go to the "uninstall hardware" dialog (in the cp), then uninstall the software. Next load up regedit.exe and search for "dlink" "d-link" and whatever the card is called (ie "DL234"). When everything is removed, shut down your system, take out the card and boot again. Run regedit again to see that nothing is left, then start the install procedure.

Good luck!

Hi all, I'd be really grateful for some help here. I recently did a factory rest on my HP Envy dv7 notebook but am having trouble re-installing Windows 10. Before I do this I was told I need to update from Windows 8 to 8.1 and then onto Windows 10. However I am unable to updaten from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 as I cannot get all the drivers installed. For some reason I am unable to install the HP Wireless Button Driver. Whenever I try to do download via Windows Update from the Control Panel, it downloads and after the install shows an error code 80070436. I'm unable to get this driver installed and so cannot update to Windows 8.1. I did try to update to 8.1 without the driver but when my laptop restarted it got stuck at 82%. I'd be grateful if anyone could give me any advice or help to get this sorted as I seem to keep hitting a brick wall. Many thanks, Ian :-)

Answer:Having problems installing HP Wireless Button Driver

Hi, Ian: If you had previously upgraded to W10 and it was successfully activated, you can clean install W10 without having to upgrade from W8, 8.1 and on to W10. Just boot from the W10 installation media you made, and there will be two choices...enter a product key (which you don't have) and there will be an option to select 'I don't have a product key.' You select the I don't have a product key option and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are reconnected to the internet. Then if you still need the wireless button driver, use the one for W10... This package provides the driver for the HP Wireless Button on supported models running a supported operating system. HP Wireless Button allows the physical (hardware) wireless radio button on the system to enable and disable the wireless connection on the system. File name: sp71829.exe If you did not make a copy of the W10 installation media, you can do so from the link below (media creation tool). http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Okay, I ordered a Wireless PCI adapter from Amazon because I am moving soon and I won't have any points in my new house for CAT-5. The PCI Adapter I have is a "TP-LINK TL-WN951N Wireless PCI Adapter". It got here in the mail, I downloaded and installed the latest driver and software from TP-LINK's website then shutdown windows, popped the adapter in, booted windows, windows recongnized it and it worked like a charm. 2 days later I boot up my computer that day, and the adapter was not working. It was not popping up in the "change adapter settings" page on Windows like it should and was before. So I started trouble shooting, I reinstalled the latest drivers and software again. That didn't work, so I tried installing the drivers from the CD that the product came with. No dice eaither. I always get, "Drivers were not successfully installed". Whenever I got into the Device Manager and go into the properties of the Adapter. Under Status it says, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I wasn't done yet, I even tried all of that again with the second PCI slot I have on my motherboard and still the same problem. So fed up, I called TP-LINK customer support and I got some chinese ladies that didn't know anything about a computer. On top of that, I could hardly understand them. All they wanted was my e-mail and phone number then actaully wanting to help me. I attached a picture to this topic. I don't know what to do a... Read more
