I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good evening People. I have a bit of a problem with the bluetooth device module in Windows XP.  It is a T500, type: 2056 laptop that gives "the device could not be found" error in the Bluetooth device diagnostics.  I replaced the bluetooth device module and it still cannot pick up the bluetooth module.  The drivers for the module are installed in device manager and it says that the device is working properly, but yet it cannot find or pick up the module.  The bluetooth module is enabled in the bios as well...... Any suggestions?? Wazzy808

Hi, I'm having some difficulty in getting my bluetooth headset to work with Skype (or anything else for that matter). here's the current state of things: My headset is set up and paired as a "hands free audio device". In "my bluetooth places" it shows up with a good signal strength. Authorization is set to "headset" only (no audio gateway). The version of the Broadcom Bluetooth Software is 5.5.0.580  . Looks pretty ok - but unfortunately it shows neither up as an  audio device in the control panel (Win XP SP3) - nor does Skype recognize the headset. Maybe I'm overlooking something fundamental...? Any input would be appreciated. Thomas PS.: The headset works fine on my cellphone. And I can synchronize the cellphone with the laptop via Bluetooth, no problems there.Message Edited by ThBa on 03-15-2009 05:43 PM

Answer:Problem with T500, Bluetooth Headset, and Skype

AFAIK most of the bluethooth headsets for mobile phones don't work with a normal pc (nokia has one which works for both). Try to google a little, you find lots of problems about this!

Answer:T500: add bluetooth

takedown,

This question has come up before in other threads.  Basically, the bluetooth card for the T500 is located behind the LCD bezel.  Any parts concerning the LCD are not replaceable by customers.

So if you order your system without bluetooth, the best route is a peripheral solution (like you already have).  Having a licensed servicer install this part would be expensive.

Is the LED behind the bluetooth icon on the T500 panel permanently on?  In both XP and Win 7, I've never had bluetooth running in the background -- I've disabled the service.  I'll enable it should I ever need it.  For now it's just a battery drain. So what's the story on this light?  Does this mean that bluetooth is still running somehow?  If bluetooth is going to suck power regardless of my OS settings, I don't much see the point of this light -- it's always on anyway, so what does the light tell me exactly? Maybe my light is stuck?

Answer:T500 Bluetooth light always on

Disabling the driver doesn't disable power to the hardware.  Turn the hardware switch off on the front of the system and see if the light stays on.  If it does, contact Lenovo.fakelogin wrote:Is the LED behind the bluetooth icon on the T500 panel permanently on?  In both XP and Win 7, I've never had bluetooth running in the background -- I've disabled the service.  I'll enable it should I ever need it.  For now it's just a battery drain. So what's the story on this light?  Does this mean that bluetooth is still running somehow?  If bluetooth is going to suck power regardless of my OS settings, I don't much see the point of this light -- it's always on anyway, so what does the light tell me exactly? Maybe my light is stuck?

My T500 running Win 7 Ultimate 64 cannot connect to any bluetooth device.  Tried both Motorola H300 headset and Microsoft Mobile 6000 keyboard.  Both work with other computers. Yes, I have installed all currecnt Lenovo drivers.  ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate version 6.3.5.430 and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator appear in Windows Device Manager and show working correctly. Yes, I have verified the bluetooth radio is on.  LED indicator is on.  FN+F5 menu shows bluetooth is on.  I have a bluetooth icon in the system tray. There are no warnings in the device manager. I can go to "Add a device" and Windows says it is searching but none are found. I even tried using a Belkin USB bluetooth dongle that will connect the keyboard to another computer and no devices are found by the Thinkpad. Appears that bluetooth is being blocked somehow.  I have completely dissabled Symantec Endpoint and Windows firewall. I realize that there are a mulittude of threads on this and other forums about bluetooth not working.  I have read and tried every solution previously listed with no success.  Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi guys, I recently had to replace HDD and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my laptop, and when it came to re-downloading drivers, I encountered a few problems. First being, the bluetooth. When I was installing the 'Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software' I kept getting an error: "Bluetooth SoftwareNo Bluetooth device was detected. Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue installation."  Which is strange because when I inserted my previous hard drive, my bluetooth was working flawlessly. I even tried installing the same software from the same HDD onto other HDD, yet the problem persisted. The light on the panel is not lighting up. Another problem is with the Function keys. I downloaded and installed 4 different versions of  'Hotkey Features Integration' software, and I'm still not getting any feedback when using the volume keys, ThinkVantage button, Fn+F2, or any other one. I rebooted the computer multiple times, reinstalled the software multiple times, and even looked in CMOS settings as to 'what could be wrong'.  Thank you in advance.

Answer:T500 Bluetooth and Function keys

As soon as I posted this, I frantically started hitting various Fn keys. After I pressed Fn+F8, the touchpad settings window popped up, a balloon saying "New hardware detected" and Bluetooth started installing, and when I clicked Fn+F5, the settings window came to life. I really don't know the cause of this, but I think something was stalling the system for 2 days straight. I don't know what the solution is, but if anyone will experience this in the future, please try hitting every single key on the F1-F12 row while holding Fn.  Regards, Ruslan.

I have upgraded my T500 to windows 7 (for the G2 Intel SSD. Where's my TRIM damnit!) and I am trying to get my AD2P Bluetooth headset to talk to the laptop. The can pair but continually complain there is no driver for the Bluetooth peripheral device. I have the latest Thinkpad Bluetooth stack installed. Is there some way to fool the Broadcom drivers into letting me install the official stack? Is there some beta stack out there? This doesn't seem to be a Windows 7 issue, the pairing occurs, and I'm using the same driver the Vista people use. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Peter Berbec

Answer:T500 AD2P Bluetooth Woes

What do you mean by "Thinkpad Bluetooth stack installed"?is "stack" the same as software/driver? I can only witness my own problem: bluetooth installed correcty but didn't work properly. My laser bluetooth connection would often drop (although the mouse was always displayed in the device manager) and I always had to turn the bluetooth off and and on to make it work, which became irritating after a couple of weeks. I finally found out that I had the wrong driver version installed: If you look in the device manager, you will see that you probably have driver version 6.2.0.9000 for the bluetooth device.unfortunately this is not good enough after the xxxx9000 there are more numbers (which are not displayed).I realized there are 2 drivers version out there. the one that windows 7 installed and the one provided by Lenovo. The one provided by Microsoft has version 6.2.0.9000.300 I believe. the one provided by lenovo is 6.2.0.9000.000I uninstalled the most recent version xxxxxx.300 and put back the one from lenovo website.again, I can't remember if is was xxxxxx.300 but it was higher than xxxxx.000Since then my mouse works consistently

I've been looking at the threads over in the R Thinkpads & SL Thinkpads forums for solutions to do with Nokia's & Activesync with TP BT as I have some users with Nokias. What I wasn't expecting was to run into the same problems with my Treo 750 on WinMobile v6 - it connects just fine on USB cable, syncs all my stuff but simply will not talk to the Treo on BT. I nuked the Treo & rebuilt - same result. I removed BT Enhanced II software, deleted the BT device from Network in Device Manager, tried to use the MS BT drivers (failed) tried to run an Update Drivers by Scanning for new devices then pointing it to the folder with the w32 drivers, edited the Bth.inf file with the id's from the BT in device manager... One thing I noticed was the on reinstall of the BT software, the BT device manager entry moved from Network Adapters into a Bluetooth Devices folder in Device Manager. And now, instead of just the BT adapter showing, I have Bluetooth Bus Enumerator AND Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate II Any ideas on how to get this working? Seeing as I am getting the same result with a Palm device as the Nokia, I am thinking this is an incompatability between Activesync & Widcomm BT stack rather than anything phone related. Any suggestions for a way to connect phones for Outlook sync without using Activesync? The BT works - when I first connected I got a phone call & was able to use the computer mic & headphones to carry out the ca... Read more

Hello, I've read several posts about this, but none of them solved my problem. I have a T500 2055-RH2, with windows 7 64bits. I just bought a bluetooth mouse online and imagine how I feel after 3 hours of useless debugging to install a mouse. Actually, my problem is more basic, I just can't seem to have bluetooth working. I tried to install: Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7, Vista - ThinkPad  When I do install this, it eventually says I have no bluetooth device, so somehow my bluetooth adapter is NOT enabled. I then tried to do Fn-F5 to enable it, but it's no use, because I can only see my WIFI in there, no trace of bluetooth... From the forum, I tried to install: ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 I think it was already installed, but I installed it anyway, still no change, nothing in Fn-F5, still nothing. I then even installed a WIDCOMM (broadcom) driver, but then again, it says it can't find any bluetooth device. Are there any depencies I don't know about? Should I reinstall anything? What the HELL is wrong?! How hard is it supposed to be to install such a basic function as bluetooth??! Should I throw that laptop out the window? Because I really want to... (arg!)  Help please...! Thanks...

As Vista SP2 will include bluetooth 2.1 support, will there still be any point of installing the Lenovo driver? Do they offer any advantage over the micosoft drivers? Regarding the WLAN drivers, I see there are more recent drivers on the Intel website, but won't there be any problems if I use these? On their website intel mentions that you might want to use the laptop manufacturers drivers. Does it make any sense, speed-wise, not to install drivers for devices you usually never use (e.g. internal modem, card reader)? Thanks

Greetings, I have my system configured to use the Intel Integrated graphics (set to internal in the bios to save power) and I am experiencing the following graphical problems.  I am running the latest bios and display driver from Lenovo, as provided by ThinkVantage System Update.  Details of the drivers are in the directx diagnostics below.  I have tried to install the latest Intel graphics driver from Intel's website for this chipset, but it says that my system is not supported (possibly something to do with ATI's Hybrid Graphics). This does not occur in OpenSUSE 11.2 (even with the 3D Gnome desktop), but it does in Windows x64 with Aero.  It usually occurs after watching SlingBox or NetFlix Instant View, but it has occurred in the past without those activities.  It has not occurred when using the ATI graphics adapter (set to dedicated in the bios), at least from the limited amount that I have made use of it. Model:  20828zu DirectX Diagnostics (full system / driver specs):http://home.comcast.net/~quako33/MISC/DxDiag.txt Screenshots of the problem:http://home.comcast.net/~quako33/Images/gpu_problem1.pnghttp://home.comcast.net/~quako33/Images/gpu_problem3.png Any ideas on how to resolve this without having to switch over to the ATI graphics adapter will be appreciated. Finally... the bluetooth question... any keystroke to disable only the bluetooth?  When I hit fn+f5, it disables the wifi and the bluet... Answer:T500 Intel Graphics Anomalies with a side of BlueTooth

It's a bug in the drivers. If you have 2+1GB or 2+4GB of RAM memory this will occur. Did you try to disable Aero? It might help. From what I understand the only way to fix this issue is to buy another 2GB module (2+2GB), or wait until a new graphics driver is released. Regarding the Bluetooth;Make sure you have Lenovo Hotkey Installed (If you have ran Lenovo System Update you probably have this installed).Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\HOTKEY" and open "TpFnF5.exe" and hit the "Settings for Fn + F5" button. I must admit I didn't really get if you had the Fn + F5 issues in Windows or OpenSUSE, but the behavior for Fn + F5 under Ubuntu 9.10 is:WLAN/BT/OFF toggle (Fn+F5 press once: Wlan and BT off/Press second time: BT off, Wlan on/Third time: BT on, Wlan off/Press another time: BT and Wlan on)If that is of any help to you.

Greetings!  I've been banging my head against this for awhile now.  My company had a customized T500 last year with a Lenovo wireless card in it, and now we've switched to an off-the-shelf model with the Intel card.  Suddenly, we cannot print consistently to Bluetooth printers. I say "consistently" because it *will* print, but only 1 job.  Then you have to power off/on the printer to print another job, rinse and repeat.  The only thing that seems to stand out as the culprit is when I go to Enable the Bluetooth Printer Service, it tells me "Unable to start the Bluetooth printer service.  Verify the local printer is physically connected to this computer by a USB or parellel cable, is set as the default print, and is turned on." This same printer (HP Officejet 470) will work just fine on our older T500's, along with other even older T42 models.  Also, the printer works great when on a USB cable -- it's just the Bluetooth that gives us problems.  All the other Bluetooth services appear to be enabled OK -- it's the Printer Service that has an error. One thing:  the Bluetooth printing works fine in the factory Windows Vista installation.  But we run a customized Windows XP sp2 load.  However, I've tried updating all the drivers I can think of and installing the full HP software suite, all to no avail.  And I evidently appear to be the only person this has ever happened to, because there is nothing via Google... Hi everyone, I am a new T500 2081 user.  I did a Windows 7 pro x64 clean install and was able to install all the ThinkVantage software including the hotkey driver, so I can use Fn+F5 to activate the Bluetooth.  The problem is everytime I restart my T500 the Bluetooth is off by default.  I have to press Fn+F5 to activate it again and again.  I am getting a Thinkpad Bluetooth laser mouse and it will be a pain if I have to activate my mouse every time the computer is restarted. When I boot my computer in Ubuntu 9.10 on another partition of the hard drive the Bluetooth is always on, so I guess the issue in Windows 7 is a software setting one.  Any idea how to fix it?  Thank you!!!

Hi,For quite some time now I've been having problems with Bluetooth (BT) devices on my T500 Win7 64 bit with devicesranging from like my older Nokia C2-01 mobile phone to my new UE ROLL 360 wireless speakers. at this stage the BTicon appeared correctly upon startup and in the device manager there where no errors, whereas the BT devices wereidentified as:a. Thinkpad bluetooth with Enhanced Date Rate IIb. Microsoft Bluetooth data EnumeratorSo from googling I figured all those BT problems might be caused by improper driver installations of BT relateddevices, which led to the use of the Microsoft enumerator instead of the actual needed devices. So I uninstalled it specifically, and was left with an unknown device, with the detail value of:BTH\MS_BTHBRBFrom here on everything only got worse :-(I've reckoned that in order to fix this I should just downloaded the latest official Lenovo driver from:http://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/ds013631 (Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II released21/2/2014).After installation (and required reboot), I was now stuck with an unknown device, with the following 2 details valuestrings:USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145&REV_0352USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145From googling this I've realized it's related to the Broadcom Bluetooth driver. So I've downloaded the latest official Broadcom Bluetooth driver from:https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth (WIDCOMM« Bluetooth Windows« Software for Windows 7 and Vista, 64-Bitreleased 04/08/2016).After thi... hi all,

I'm really hoping someone can read this post and help a little bit.  Let me start with this, at this point, I know I'm screwed so I'm just looking for some help on why this might have happened.  A little background, my T500 has been flawless, and I love it too death.  I work with hundreds of people that swear by Mac's and I say how much I love my Lenovo everyday.  But regardless, I don't think it's a Lenovo issue.

So I have a T500 with 8GB memory, Kingston SSD, Windows 7 64bit.  Symantec antivirus updated, Windows defender malware tools.  No viruses anywhere.

Everything's been great till about a week ago.  At that time, several windows updates and updates from Lenovo's site were installed.  Including a windows update that's supposed to help the boot up speed of computers with and eSata port that's not in use.

Anyway, everything has been pretty good except two things.  I kept getting an error every boot up that the bluetooth stack service couldn't start.  Second, every time the computer would wake up from hibernation, I would get a blue screen on the device driver ianvstor.sys.

So today I decided to fix these issues... Huge mistake!!!

I started by fixing the ianvstor.sys issue.  Posts all over the web say to update the Intel Turbo Memory drivers.  So I downloaded the latest one from the Lenovo site and installed it.  This went fine.  I postponed the reboot an... Read more

Stop booting the drive immediately, and run a disk recovery program on it.The closest thing I could think of is that the Uninstaller went haywire and started deleting files beyond it's target scope. (I know this first hand; I wrote an installer/uninstaller myself in VB6 that did the exact thing to my drive. Fortunately, I was dual-booting and recovered all of my files using the other partition.)I think it stopped booting because a few key driver files were wiped out. After trying to recover your files, try an offline SFC pass like so:http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/run-sfc-offline-windows-7-vista/Not sure if it'll pick up on missing files, but it will replace modified files.Chances are, a fair bit of files were wiped.

All the hardware components were working perfectly. I took advantage of the Windows 8 upgrade offer from Microsoft and performed an installation. Windows 8 automatically installed most drivers by itself, but there are three entries in the device manager that are not working:  The hardware IDs for the devices that are missing are as follows: First Base System Device:PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_20CA17AA&REV_11PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_20CA17AAPCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_088000PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_0880Second Base System Device:PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_20C917AA&REV_11PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_20C917AAPCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880PCI Simple Communications Controller:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A44&SUBSYS_20E617AA&REV_07PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A44&SUBSYS_20E617AAPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A44&CC_078000PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A44&CC_0780http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70443 only has support up to Windows 7. Please let me know how to identify what these devices are and also, where do I find drivers? Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo T500 bluetooth and other base system devices not working after upgrading to Windows 8

Good day.

While I have no information about availability of Windows 8 drivers, searching at: http://www.pcidatabase.com/index.php yields the data below on your three problematic devices. There are some reports of Windows 7 drivers working in Windows 8, but I can't confirm personally.

Device Id  Chip Description                   Vendor Id  Vendor Name0x0592     Rioh Memory Stick Controller       0x1180     Ricoh0x0843     Ricoh SD/Host Controller           0x1180     Ricoh0x2A44     Intel Management Engine Interface  0x8086     Intel Corporation

Hopefully, this info will help a bit.
Regards.

My keyboard won't stay connected to the Bluetooth. Windows disabled the Bluetooth and gave this messge: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." What is this and how do I fix it? I can't get my Logitech K810 keybaord to stay connected. It pairs, and works for awhile, then disconnests, even though it says it is connected. Driver update says the drivers in place are the right ones. I've also tried Bluetooth dongles to connect with, but I get the same problem -- connects for a while and then disconnects.

My T500 is currently being used as a desktop replacement.   So it is plugged into an AC outlet all the time. My question is how to best preserve the battery life and capacity of a 9-cell..  Detach the battery, will the AC power it while battery is detached? It would be slightly more convenient to leave the battery attached... Is the laptop powered solely by the AC while plugged in, so the battery's life would not be affected? Any other ideas?

Answer:T500- how to best preserve battery life/capacity when T500 is always plugged to AC

i've heard detaching it helps a lot since it reduces a lot of the heat. also i've heard of people detaching it and storing it in the refrigerator but honestly i don't think thats necessary. just keep the battery charged about...i believe it is 50 percent...and in a cool area.  there is an excellent article on batteries somewhere, i'll have to search for it later

I had purchased a new 2gb DDR3 ram for my T500 .For reference:Slot 0 : original 2gb ram.Slot 1: the new 2gb ramI got it 2 weeks ago, I placed it into my laptop and it worked fine. Then after 4 hours, windows crashed. After that, the system would crash every 15-20 mins. So I took out the new ram, and started to use laptop with the original ram. Did not experienced same problems.Last week, I tried putting in the new memory and had same occurence. After that, I decided to see if there would be any change if I switch the slot used for the each ram. So I placed the new ram in the slot 0 , and original ram in slot 1. I still had problems.I wanted to figure out if it is the new ram or maybe the second memory slot has some issues. so I took out my old ram, and kept the new memory in the slot 0. I had same issue again. So I thought maybe I did not properly placed the memory, so I took it and re-place it in the same slot. After that, I did not had any errors. Then I decided to put back the old ram into slot 1, again. The errors start to occur again. I would get Blue Screen of Death of every half hour or so. When I place the ram in slot 1, and nothing in slot 0, I get illegal configuration error. So I am wondering, does this shows that there is a problem in the slot 1 of my computer, or maybe the new memory is just incompatiable to work with my original ram?If it matter of a bad slot, how should I get it fix? It could be incompatibility with the two memory modules. The new memory module could be defective. Run memtest86 with both memory modules installed.

Answer:T500 GPS problem

since the GPS and the 3G features are integrated into the same WWAN card, if you are having hardware problems with both, then it would indicate a problem with either the antennas connection or the card.So try to take off the palmrest and keyboard, then check the WWAN card to see whether it is seated properly and wires are connected properly.

Newbie to the forums, here. I've been a Thinkpad owner for over 10 years and have had great success with my retired 560X (still runs after 13 years) and replaced it in 2009 with a T500. Last week, I tripped over the power cord and, not surprisingly, began having power issues. The power would switch between a/c and battery, and I had to twist the cable around to get it to run on a/c power. Over the course of about a week, it got increasingly worse until I couldn't get it to run/charge from the a/c adapter at all. I tested the a/c adapter with a multimeter and it was fine, so I assumed the problem was the power jack. I brought it into a local shop (not authorized by Lenovo) where the tech told me it wasn't the power jack, as is usually the case. He's saying the power jack is getting power, but the "charging circuit" on the motherboard is the problem, and that I need a new motherboard (at a cost of $625 installed). Obviously, I'm not putting that kind of money into a 3 year old laptop (even though I paid over $1000 for it, but I can't afford a new laptop at this time, or for the foreseeable future. Two questions: 1) If something on the mobo was physically damaged from the "power cord trip", wouldn't my power problems have been immediate, rather than gradual? 2) If I were to replace the mobo, would I have to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows, or is it in any way possible to have the system boot as it was, without starting from scratch? In the meantime,... Answer:Power Problem with T500

http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/

Hi Chris and welcome to the Community,

Unlike older ThinkPads that have the power jack soldered on the board, yours has a separate jack with a wired plug on the end that plugs into the board.

Go to the link, choose notebooks, ThinkPads, T series, the T500 isn't listed but the T510 is and the procedures are pretty close.  Look under Fru and choose power jack.  It will show a video on how to replace it.

I'm not going to try to second guess the service tech, but if it was mine, the first thing I would try is to replace the power jack.  They are cheap and "fairly" easy to change.  If that doesn't fix it, you could start checking fuses on the motherboard. Some service shops are equipped to change out a fuse.

You won't have to reinstall Windows from scratch.  It should boot up fine.  You will probably have to reactivate windows because the motherboard will be changed, but that should be the only difference.

Did you have another AC adapter to test with? The problem might be with the adapter itself. Consider replacing it with your warranty to see if that resolves your problem.

I have a T500 running windows XP. Ran perfectly for about a year with no problems. If I start up the laptop first, then dock it while on, I have no problems. Any idea what may be causing this problem and how to remedy? Many thanks.

hey rwkhms, the manufacturer for those two external monitors, do they have a website? It is possible drivers might be needed for those monitors.while you hunt for possible drivers, try uninstalling the current graphic driver for your T500 and see if the issue occurs. later on, go to our support page and reinstall the T500's graphic driver

I recently purchased a T500 to replace my old T42P and am having a problem with the power saving settings that I can't solve.  For reasons that are unclear to me, when left idle, the machine will go into standby mode (even when it is using power from a wall socket and it is not supposed to go on standby).  This would not be a big issue except that once this happens I cannot awaken it from standby by any of the usual methods (briefly pressing the power button or using some keyboard combination). I am force to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button for +4 seconds. Does anyone have any insights about why the machine is entering standby and then not coming out of it normally?  I've looked at all of the power settings and cannot fathom what is wrong.  They are essentially the same as the ones I had on my T42P, which did not have this problem.

Hi guys,  i tried to make an ad-hoc connection with a friend of mine but the WLAN shuts down itself after a few minutes (the green light below the display turns itself off) i already tried a few options in the power management but nothing helped...i guess the only way to make it work is to shut off the access connections...but thats no real solution in my opinion... does anybody have any ideas about this problem?

Answer:T500 problem with ad-hoc WLAN

I suspect you are using windows wireless to make the connection, but still have Access Connections installed? If so, you really should use one or the other. Access Connections has a feature to turn off the wireless if it thinks it isn't in use (i.e. the situation above) to save some battery life.  But it is easy enough to turn off that feature.  Open Access Connections, and click on Configure and Global settings.  Uncheck  "Enable automatic wireless LAN radio control" Click Ok and exit.See if that helps.

Question: T500 boot problem

Model: T500 2242System: Vista Business downgraded to XP pro  Hello, My laptop can't start Windows. The file \windows\system32\c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt. And I don't have a recovery disk. Here are few things I did before the problem appeared. 1 I used the "Rescue & Recovery" to backup files to my external hard drive yesterday. 2 When I tried to log in for the first time after that, system prompted me to run Chkdsk command, and I did. It corrected some files, but I don't remember details. 3 After I logged in, I ran the "Rescue & Recovery" to rejuvenate my system. It took 10 hours! Then my laptop restarted, and here I am, unable to do anything. I tried to recover the file from my external hard drive. I set the bios, connect the USB drive, press thinkvantage button, enter the rescue and recovery. After showing a few messages such as ' preparing the system', the laptop restarts again, and tells me that windows could not start for the file c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:Cursor problem with T500.

I am experiencing the same problem. I have a T400. The cursor jumps to a previous paragraph when I'm typing. It is quite annoying. You'll be typing along and all of a sudden you're typing text into the middle of previously written material. If anyone has any insight on this it would be a great help. I've watched to see if I'm touching the red mouse button or tab buttons and I don't think I am. This problem seems more prevalent in replying to e-mails in Outlook. Thanks in advance to any insights.

Hi everyone,I have a strange problem with my T500(2082-53G) notebook. When I want to turn off the computer I am doing it through OS(Start -> Turn Off). Hi plmmsg, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

That's quite an old version of the Power Management driver. I would start by updating that. You may also check for updates of other related drivers, such as the System Interface Driver.

The drivers are all available on the T500 Drivers and software page.

If you don't want to manually look for drivers, ThinkVantage System Update will scan your system and show you your available updates. My advice is not to apply all the updates it finds, just those which might solve some problem or have some value to you.

I did some searching and see that others have this problem, but can't seem to nail down any consistent solution, or at least one that works for me...  my new T500 (4313-CTO, Windows 7 Pro) has been having a problem with shutting down where the screen goes blank, but it still seems to be running, and it requires me to hold down the power key for a long time to force it to reboot to get going again, but, obviously, I lose everything that was open, which is not going to work.  A few times, the machine has popped up with an error message when I have just left it alone, and maybe this could help diagnose the problem, although it means nothing to me (see below).  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks! Problem signature:  Problem Event Name:    BlueScreen  OS Version:    6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48  Locale ID:    1033Additional information about the problem:  BCCode:    1000009f  BCP1:    0000000000000004  BCP2:    0000000000000258  BCP3:    FFFFFA8003B73680  BCP4:    FFFFF80000B9C510  OS Version:    6_1_7600  Service Pack:    0_0  Product:    256_1Files that help describe the problem:  C:\Windows\Minidump\060810-18174-01.dmp  C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-24928-0.sysdata.xmlRead our privacy statement online:  http://go.microsoft.... Answer:Shutdown problem with new T500

As an additional clarification, after I finished my first post, I shut the lid and the machine should go into standby, but the standby light (moon symbol thing) never comes on, and when I open the lid, the screen is black and the machine won't turn on unless I hold the power down and get it to reboot.  So, after I did that, I left it on and went outside for a while, then when I came back in, the screen was blank again and the machine unresponsive, so I had to reboot again.  Maybe that helps the diagnosis a little?

At my home, i tryed to switch it to ATI Radeon 3650 and......there is the problem!!! First I installed the driver, at Device Manager says that the ATI video card works. Entering in Bios/ Config/ Display, i maked these settings  After Presing F10 , it restarts and.......nothing.... I plugged a VGA monitor and it looks: And.... And After this image it goes to this error!!!!!!!!  Where is the Problem?thI can switch again to the Intel GMA and it works perfect....I tryed to install an original ati driver and the switchable graphic from Lenovo and...same problem.I SHOULD MENTION THAT THE ATI DOESN;T WORK ON THE LAPTOP LCD....IT WORKS JUST ON VGA!!!!!!After all....In Devide Manager says that the device cannot start and finally.....In the Device Manager appears just the Intel Video Card. What can i do? I need some more performance in some games......This laptop was new.....and it never runs with the ATI video....this give me a hope that the ati is not Broken!!!!This Laptop runs just AutoCAD....about 3-4 hours per day.  Specifications: Intel Core 2 DUO T9600 @ 2.8 GhzRAM: 4Gb DDR3 1600 MhzHDD: 320 Gb

Answer:ThinkPad T500 - ATI problem

It is hard to diagnose from far away, but my guess is that the video memory in the ATi video is bad.

Hi Guy's,I have a T500 (2089) which got its 'southbridge' fried, the screen went fuzzy, then the system went down..the only recourse was to get an IT shop to replace the motherboard (I hadn't noticed till I got it back it was still within warranty period!...doh!!)...anyway, I had put Win 7 on it prior to the problem, and wifi worked.Since the replacement, the wifi doesn't light up or work......the up-arrow on the task bar on desktop has 2 items with an X by them..the first says Hardware radio switch off and the second says wifi turned off.The wifi slider is in the correct 'on' position, (and turning it off gives a message 'all wireless radios are now off')Opening intel My Wifi shows 'disabled because the hardware radio switch is off'Can anyone suggest what I should do to repair the situation? Many ThanksTony

Answer:T500 Wireless problem

First of all check in BIOS under security - I/O Port access, that the devices all are enabled.

Maybe the service company hadn't re-attached the WiFi-slider well, that it does not move the switch when you use the slider.

Hi everyone, I have a 2 year old t500 with windows 7. Until recently, it was working fine, but today I woke up to find that it doesn't turn on properly. When I hit the power button, something inside turns on, but the screen remains off and the hd doesn't whir. On the strip of LEDs below the screen, the harddrive light doesn't turn on, but the battery, external power, and cd drive(?) lights turn on and are green. The cd tray opens and closes properly. But that's about it. I think it could be a hard drive problem or a motherboard problem. But i'm not sure. Any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Answer:t500 harddrive problem?

It sounds like a dead mobo.  I would try to hook up an external monitor and see if you can see anything on the screen.  If that doesn't work it could be a dead mobo.

I have a brand-new T500. Due to shipping limitations, this was the only model available and it shipped with Windows XP. My company has standardized on Vista Business so I purchased the recovery DVD's with it and loaded Vista as soon as I got it. After the final boot upon install I get an error "ATI Graphics Adapter Driver failed to load." I have been messing with it for about 2 hours now. I've tried uninstalling the driver completely and alternatively installing a) The Lenovo version from the website b) the Microsoft version from Windows Update and c) the ATI version from their website (won't even load). Am I missing something?

After upgrading to the latest Conexant audio drivers (4.92.2.0) my audio stopped working.  Vista is showing a speaker icon with a red cross in the tray.   Swithing between Microsoft's and Conextant drivers it either shows:-  No audio device is installed- Or it show playback devices (Speakers and SPDIF interface) but testing these devices don't produce any sound output. Uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the driver also doesn't work. Uninstall always reverts back to Microsoft's "High Definition Audio Device"- it seems that uninstalling this driver automatically reinstalls itself at system start-up. Launching from SmartAudio from the control panel also fails to start, most likely due to audio driver problem.Device manager is reporting that the device status is "This device is working properly." How do I get sound  to work again on the notebook?  System details:- Vista 32bit- T500- Product: 20827TG - BIOS: LENOVO 6FET70WW (3.00 ) 04/17/2009    Thank you,Philip Message Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:08 PMMessage Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:09 PM

We have several Lenovo T500 with the Intel 5300 AGN Wirless card. We use the latest drivers from Lenovo System Update. We have updated also the BIOS, Power Management and Hotkeys. We use Windows XP SP3 with the latest hotfixes. We have the problem, that the T500 connects to the accesspoint but does not always receive a IP address. After several reboots it always works. We have T60, T61 notebooks running which do not have this problem. What can we do to make wireless work more reliable with T500 notebooks?

Answer:Lenovo T500 - Wireless Problem

I had the same problem with my T400 running Vista.  Any time the network changed the first attempt at connection came up w/out an IP address.  A reboot fixed it - until next time. What solved it was downgrading to a 5100.  This was suggested by a Lenovo 2nd-tier tech after trying a different 5300. I hope there's an easier fix, but this is what finally worked for me. Z.

Hi there, I am having trouble with my newely installed 2GB stick of ram. Let me step back and explain exactly whats was going on.  I purchased a new T500 in September and it arrived in early October. It is configured with Windows Vista Business 32-bit and 2GB of memory. I decided to keep some of the Lenovo Thinkpad software so I felt that my system was running a little slow.So I went on Newegg and ordered another 2GB stick that can be found here. After the ram arrived I installed it and first checked BIOS. BIOS was reading 4GB. Now I understand that I have only a 32-bit version so the 4GB will not be completely recognized. So, when I start windows and go into System from control panel it also reads 4GB. However, when I go into task manger it says that the total physical memory is only 2519MB!!! Thats a mere 500mb increase from what I had before. Now, this is my first experience with Vista and so far I was pretty happy. I have a desktop with 32-bit Window XP Pro setup and when I installed 4GB of ram on that the system managed to read 3.5GB. I dont know whats going on with my laptop. So in general can someone explain to me whats going on??? Why is task manager only reading my 4GB config as 2.5GB??? And what is the best way for me to switch my Vista Business 32-bit to the  Vista Business 64-bit version??

Hello, im writing to get some help. After successful recovery of my system (Win.XP.Prof.En.) from recovery partition, 'Think Vantage Access Connections' started working weird.Im using my laptop in work and home. In both places im using encrypted WLAN (128 bit pre-shared key). After about 20-30 minutes, application hangs up and I'm unable to use it: click on systray icon and connect/reconnect. Making it simple: application is not responding. Only thing that helps is system reboot. As I said before - my system is fresh, i didn't do anything with drivers or applications. My laptop is also fully upgraded by 'Think Vantage Update Center'. Attached screens shows state when application is not responding. Hi, I recently acquired a t500 from a friend but haven't been able to use it properly yet because the screen won't turn on.  When I power on I can see the thinkpad logo very faintly. I can only get the screen to work with a monitor. I have also managed to get into the boot order by removing battery and HDD but only been able to see it at stupid angles or with a bright light. This leads me to thinking it is a backlight/inverter problem.  Any help or suggestions would be beneficial.  - I have also reseated the RAM

Answer:T500 Screen Problem - Black

Welcome to the forum.

> When I power on I can see the thinkpad logo very faintly. I can only get the screen to work with a monitor.

Yes, those are classic symptoms of a defective CCFL backlight or inverter. T500 models came in several different LCD panel configurations so, if you plan to try to repair this make sure you get the right parts. Some T500 models used the new (at that time) LED backlight technology.

Or if this sounds too daunting or too expensive, especially for such an old system, then use an external monitor.

Hi, I've received my T500 after a HDD replacement, and a fresh Win XP. A really strange thing happens sometimes (not every time), either when I plug in the AC, or when I try to shut down the display through fn+f3, the display starts jumping horizontally, either the whole image, or parts of the screen, jump to the right and then back. What seems to stop it, is if I change the resolution momentarily.  Any ideas if this is a hardware problem, or a driver problem, and how I might be able to fix it? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi there, Few weeks ago, I decided to install Vista x64 on a "clean" T500 with initial configuration (Vista 32 bits + where everything was working fine), I used ThinkVantage System Update and downloaded everything, then, my problem came. First, during the 1st week, I couldn't play more than an hour before my T500 lag during 20sec and then crash (Usb devices turns off, then screen comes black + Power led off then nothing). It has become worse and worse over the time, now I can't even play 15min to a "recent" game... I don't know if the Vista 64bits installation modified anything like the maximum supported temperature before crash or anything like but just take a look at this to understand :  http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5171/tempsa.jpg (Graph scale is 10 minuts, I turned on the game approx. at 4) For my configuration well ... I tried  to switch to Discrete / Integrate / Switchable (Switchable graphics detection on / off) in the bios, nothing changed. I tried to download the new ATI Catalyst drivers, same thing ... So I'm here to ask your help :-( ... Thanks

I've had a t500 for the past 2 years and I haven't had a single problem with it (minus the keyboard flex, but that's a different story) until this morning. My wireless connection was working fine until randomly, I stopped being able to load new pages. My computer was still connected to my house's wifi (or so it said), but the internet just wouldn't work. I took it downstairs and plugged it into the router with an ethernet cord, but it still wasnt working. Then, directly into the modem, but still nothing. Keep in mind that through all of this, my computer still claimed it was connected to the network and all that. Every so often, it would change to "connected - no internet access" or "connected - no network access" or something similar. I dont think it's a problem with the router or modem, because all the other machines in my house can connect to the net just fine. On top of everything, I can get the internet to work for about 45 seconds if I restart my machine. Once restarted, my homepage will load, followed by the next page i try to get to, but then after about a minute, it stops again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hey iseepee, could you uninstall both the ThinkVantage Access as well as the wireless and wired network drivers from your unit.let windows install its generic drivers. now try connecting to your connection via a wired and via wireless .at the same time, i would like to know; the T500 can it connect to a wireless/wired connection outside your home ? maybe at a cafe that provides wireless internet ?

Hello, I've recently purchased a Lenovo T500 Thinkpad Notebook. And this might be a fairly easy problem to fix, but JUST to be safe. Whenever I use the Sound Recorder, after recording and I click the stop button, a window pops up saying the following: Not enough memory available to complete this operation.  Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again. If you recall I've stated that my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 is new, very new, no more than a few days new. I don't see any applications running. So what could be my problem?

My T500 hinge has failed twice now less than 4 months apart.  I repaired the first time at cost of $170 (half part and half labor), since it is older than 4 years.  With the hinge stuck I can't take my computer anywhere, since I'd have to open/close it and I am really frustrated.  I'm a student and use my computer everyday both at home and school so this prevents me from doing the work I need to graduate. I've been using Thinkpads for many years now and more recently the quality is bad.  This is terrible they would fail like this and this would have never happened under IBM's ownership.  I don't think I'll buy one in the future because of this issue. The hinge is the one closest to the power connection.  Both times the hinge has became stuck during normal use.  This time I was closing my laptop by pulling down from the middle.  I've been extra careful doing this since the first break, but it has always seemed a bit weak.  When it gets stuck it starts to push the front bevel open. Any suggestions?   I am checking if the repair company offers any gurantees, but I am really dissapointed since I think it is the poor robustness of the lenovo parts and repair parts.  I wish I would have saved my initial repair cost and put instead into a new laptop.

Answer:T500 hinge problem (2nd time)

Can somebody from Lenovo help me? I only want to know whether the hinge should normally be very difficult to turn?  Through the broken side I can use needle nose pliers to grip the upper half of the hinge arm, but I can't swing it forward or backward like this.  The only possible way is to pinch the front and back case tightly at the bottom of the hinge arm and use the torque of the screen to rotate, but this seems to continue to damage all the pieces surrounding the hinge.
