GOBI Mobile Broadband...Please help!

Question: GOBI Mobile Broadband...Please help!

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Hi, I've a Lenovo S10-3 to which I've fitted an Ericsson F3607GW wwan card for Lenovo notebooks FRU: 60Y3237.  I bought the card from Hong Kong via Ebay.  I downloaded driver 83W013WW.exe from the Lenovo site and it allows me to connect in areas of 3G coverage. Unfortunately we don't have full 3G coverage in Australia and in my home region there is only a GSM signal and the card will not connect to it, although my old usb plug in modem works fine!  According to the Ericsson data sheet the F3607GW has the full range of frequency bands avilable - so it should work! I see that other drivers and the Ericsson broadband Manager are available and would welcome help in what drivers/broadband managers to use.  I have read on other forums that some other modems require the region to be set to '3' to allow proper working in Australia. I would welcome advice on which drivers/manager etc to use to get the card working properly in Australia. If anyone has experience with the GPS capability of this card I would like to learn how it was done - that's the next step after getting the wireless broadband function to work! Looking forward to some good advice! Rogerf

I tried reinstaling the software and it gets almost rhrough and says "There is no mobile sim card installed in this computer"!! Ugggh!!!!7. Lenovo support is useless. Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

It wont auto load and im getting pretty fed up. Please can anyone help. I am thinking I must have deleted some drivers, but when i select 'update driver' it says that my drivers are fully updated.

Please help!

Occaisionally I have driven around chasing signal or at popular festival events due to increased phone traffic.Personally i would give 4 out of 5 for flexibility and coverage whilst with price of package only 3 out of 5Philip

Hi Swathu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Are you sure that your model has been shipped with WWAN card from the factory?

If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband. Also, install Think Vantage Access connections to handle various wireless profiles.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi - We are a company which uses a laptop to connect to our secure centre and the internet. We currently use a Orange Mobile GC75 data card which connects to the Orange network and then we dial in to our services and the internet. Our systems are advancing greatly and the GC75 card doesnt give a quick enough connection (Is seems like dial up again) so i was wondering if there was a broadband connection that we could use?Another problem is that there isnt a very good Orange signal where we are so was wondering if there was a data card that could be used with a manx card?We are also looking at buying a new laptop so i can get the best possible to match the data card.I may have got myself in a muddle here but basically i just want a mobile broadband connection that can be used everywhere when on the move with the best signal possible to make it more stable. Answer:Mobile Broadband

You would not be able to use your 3 mobile Broadband abroad as difference country uses difference system via their mobile network, you will also need an account with the local broadband supplier Mobile roaming calls worldwide is difference than mobile broadband Most International telephone companies have an agreement between themselves that will allow you to use your local mobile phone on there local network and charge you roaming fees from 80% - 175% above the normal cost some also charge you both ways, for receiving a call or a text message and when you make a call

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi,Slightly hijacking the thread...I too live in a rural area (Ewelme in Oxfordshire). Our problem is that the exchange is the other side of the Thames and the Council will not let BT place more cabling over the bridge or under the Thames - so some users have Broadband others do not (only at 1mbps).Mobile signal is atrocious indoors, can barely get a signal and 3G is non-existant. However, outside and a few yards down the drive 3G kicks in.Therefore my question is: Is it possible to get a High Gain aerial and have that connect to the 3G dongle to access a better signal inside the house? If so, does anyone know how, and which equipment is required?I work in Kent and really would like to be able to work from home occasionally to avoid the 200 mile round trip every day to the office.ThanksJ

Answer:Mobile Broadband

Don't think there is any way you are going to get it, until Gov makes a move on all UK being able to get BB. This they are wanting to do. And charge everybody for the extra installation. About £6 to £8 a year. One of the things they are doing is laying Fiber Optics in Sewer Pipes

Answer:R50 - mobile broadband?

hey extin, welcome to the forums.hard for me to say if a driver is needed or not. The unit of yours, is it running on XP on Win7 ?If it is on XP, a high chance you may need a driver. I would then suggest that you get in contact with the mobile broadband vendor and check with them.

Answer:S12 Mobile broadband

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

If you didn't fit mobile broadband card yourself you havn't that card in your laptop from the factory. It's wwan ready only, i.e.has internal wwan antennas and sim card holder. If you'll decide to buy and insert wwan card you have not to download and launch application from Lenovo site "Mobile Broadband". It's for simless CDMA/EV-DO networks only.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Question: Mobile broadband

Hi By default the Mobile broadband card in my X301 is turned off. Is it possible to turn in on by default when Windows start ups

Answer:Mobile broadband

It has to be mentioned as matter of disclaimer really since this forum is innundated with users who mistakenly believe they're x was GSM / CDMA equipped when they notice the SIM card slot under the battery. Most X's have the SIM slot but this seems standard regardless if the user configured or will have it installed. Assuming you spec'd your for the card and aren't being hopefully confused by spotting the slot....1. Check your BIOS setting to ensure the card is enabled2. check devmgmt.msc for the WiFi or "MobileBroadband" category since the category isn't standard and verify the card is properly installed and enabled / if it is then verify in the cards Advanced properties to ensure the OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T TURN OFF THE CARD TO SAVE POWER !!!! Still failing then contact tech support or reply with the rest of the story and whatever inordinary things you've done to this thing because the manufacturers and cellular providers along with Lenovo's group have worked extraordinarily hard to even COOPERATE IN DETERMINING CONFIGURATION AND RARE FOR  SO MANY THINGS TO COME TOGETHER SO WELL IN LAPTOP AS DO BROADBAND CARDS. The cards monthly subscription costs and cellular usage penalties has forced them to behave so cohesively when delivering the option since the type of person who buys a broadband card expects it to work and work out of the box. If you could take an official or even unofficial survey of what kind of hardware failure makes end users and prosum... Question: mobile broadband

Hi I am using vodafone mobile broadband while on holiday. I am able to receive emails but am having a problem sending them. There is no error message it just times out. I have rebooted laptop but am getting nowhere - had the same problem a few weeks ago - the email i was sending just sat in my outbox until I got home. Any suggestions appreciated

Answer:mobile broadband

The general rule is that you must send mail using the SMTP server of the ISP with which you are connected to the internet. At the moment, that means using Vodafone's SMTP server. Your email program will almost certainly be configured to use the SMTP server of your home broadband provider, which won't work with the Vodafone connection.

Question: Mobile Broadband

I have mobile broadband with 3. Today I tried to connect and did so successfully. However, when I check the connection to see my how my usage was going my 3 connection manager told me I was not connected? How can this be? I am connected to the internet via my USB 3 modem not wifi and am surfing the net.Can anyone help me understand this?

Answer:Mobile Broadband

When you install the 3 Mobile Broadband software, an entry is added in the Network Connections folder for a "Dial-up" connection. If you double click this, you will connect without having to use the Connection Manager, which may still show you as *NOT* connected, even though you are.Additionally, if the Mobile Broadband is set as your default connection and in "Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections" you have selected either...- Dial whenever a network connection is not present- Always dial my default connection...then as soon as you run a program that requires internet access (web browser, email etc), the Mobile Broadband will connect.

Hi!I have previously successfully used my built in 3G modem in my T410, model 2537W6C with Win7 64bit. It's unclear why it has stopped working. I have not touched the SIM card. I don't recall messing with any drivers, broadband-related software, etc.  I have installed drivers "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205", version 2.0.7.4 (2011-05-09). The Lenovo "Wireless Radio" app (<Fn>-<F5>) shows Wifi, bluetooth and mobile broadband adapter installed, but only the first two can be toggled on/off. The mobile broadband is stuck in "off". If I press the button to Power on Wireless WAN Radio, the mouse cursor turns into an hourglass, but the WWAN symbol does not turn green (i.e. it is not turned on). I have Ubuntu installed on the same system as Dual boot. Mobile broadband used to work in Ubuntu, but does not appear in the available networks any longer. Please advise what more troubleshooting I could do, and how I can get my Mobile Broadband adapter back to life.

Helloo and welcomeAny chance the wwan card is captured by Linux' stand by mode while the system boots Windows? That might mean the card can't resume from one of the power mode.Thy to reset the BIOS/EC and laptop power circuits:unplug the power cable and battery, press the power button and hold it for 20...30 seconds. Enter the BIOS Setup, load and save default settings, check out the settings you prefer, save them. Boot laptop. These steps might help but not resove issue until you'll find the way how Linux interacts with modem.

Being raised in the paleolithic, I am lost in a forest of wireless technology. I have tried reading up on this, but still confused.:confused I would like to get rid of my cable phone company and switch from dial-up. I would like to lose the landline altogether. As I understand it, I can buy something that will connect me to a cell phone network. All I want is a higher speed connection for my desktop, an older business machine. Will a dongle thingy for a cell phone network work for that as I don't want to use a cell phone. Just the computer and the thing that makes it possible. Is getting a card from a cell phone network and paying them monthly the only way to get this, or are there other options?
Thanks, Sheena

Answer:need some help understanding mobile broadband

You can't get higher speed than cable at least around me its 50Mbps, same as fiber. DSL is next in line with 6 - 15 Mbps. Then wireless from a cel company (called mobile broadband) then dial up comes in last place, I don"t know how that plays into you wanting "a higher speed connection".

Dumping your landline, you can get a smartphone that can double as a wireless access point. Most wireless companies are limiting their broadband usage. Sprint is still *unlimited*.

So you had a cable company phone service for dial up Internet access?

I have a dongle to use with laptop when away from home. I have connected to O2 Mobile Broadband and will purchase credit on daily, weekly or monthly basis when necessary. The dongle claims to be a memory stick and does work in that capacity on the laptop where the O2 Mobile Broadband is installed, but does is not recognised as an external drive in the desktop computer (which does not have the O2 mobile broadband software installed. Any ideas of why not?

Answer:O2 Mobile Broadband Dongle MF 100

If its like my wifes dongle then it has a micro sd card inside, to read those files in another machine you need to use a separate card reader.

You could try and install the o2 mobile software on the DT computer and access it there.

Answer:Slow 3 mobile broadband

The PC Advisor result is abysmal but the Speedtest.net result at 651kbps is not that different from the speed I often get for download. Upload though is very poor. (I'm also using the 3G network).Try click here - just now, this has given me 480kbps Download and 114kbps Upload.

So Windows 8 doesn't work on my Edge E530 with the Ericsson mobile broadband. At all. There are no drivers listed under the Windows 8 option in the Drivers section. The Windows 7 drivers worked for W8 RTM Preview, but they don't work for W8 Pro as released. There is a bug in the "Known Issues for Windows 8" concerning enabling mobile broadband in the BIOS, but I checked and there's no option for that. Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation says there's no supported wireless drivers, the Ericsson drivers install without errors and my drivers screen looks like this.   I'm just so darn tired of this computer costing me money and time to fix.

Answer:Mobile Broadband on Windows 8

Well, tried all the beta drivers etc. Nil effect. I really do think that it is important that Lenovo support released versions of Windows, it is quite important.

Can someone explain to me the difference between normal broadband v an offer I saw on T mobile. You don't need a telephone you're sent a USB modem.Need helpThanks

Answer:Difference between Broadband and T mobile usb m

you've summed it up yourself - you don't need a telephone/landline, therefore you aren't paying out for BT line rental, possibly just so you can use broadband on it.Another obvious advantage is the fact you can use it nearly anywhere. I say nearly as this is one of the drawbacks - I use T-mobile broadband via my phone as a modem....it works most of the time but I'd describe it as flakey. For example three days last week I had no access at all as the transmiter was down. Was visiting a friend in Manchester at the weekend and there was no 3G/HSDPA signal at all - now central Manchester is hardly the scottish highlands where you could expect poor service.....so you really need to investigate whether it's going to work, and how well it is - before you jump in.

Hi,

I've been using 3's mobile broadband for a few month now and everything's been fine...until I decided to try a different web browser to see if it was any quicker. I downloaded the Apple browser and it was ok but nothing too special so i uninstalled it. Since that day, when I click the 'connect' button on my broadband window, it's started coming up with the error -

'The web browser application associated with connection '3connect' failed to start. Please check your browser application settings.'

It works fine if you leave this message up and open up IE, but if you click 'ok' then it says that connection has failed do you want to retry...I'm confused. I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to change this. Can anyone help me please.

Hi there, my friend wants to buy a new laptop and use a Broadband dongle to connect to the net instead of his home broadband as he is going through a divorce and will be moving to Barbados in 4 months, can anyone please recommend a decent deal/provider? He wont be downloading but will be emailing and surfing...!Many thanks!!

Answer:Mobile Broadband using a Dongle-which is best?

Think they are all pretty much the same. The problem is going to be when he goes to Barbados. He would be better leaving it until he gets there and choosing a local provider.Maybe someone else can advise you better, but i think using a UK provider abroad would be very expensive.

I am trying to connect a new Dell Latitude laptop with a Dell 5720 VZW (EVDO Rev-A) mobile card to our network using the sonicwall GVC. Any interface other than the VZW card such as WIFI or ethernet cable work fine when connecting and mapping drives over the internet using GVC. However with the Verizon Wireless connection, all I can do is ping our server and strangely I have no problem connecting to remote desktop. When attempting to map a drive on the laptop using the mobile broadband I get the error message "The network location cannot be reached." almost as if I never was within reach of the server even though I can ping it and RDP! I have Netbios enabled on our VPN so I don't believe that is the problem. Numerous calls to Sonicwall support have left me with nothing. Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help that might be offered. I'm running Vista.

My friend has a compaq presario 2133ac laptop runnig xp home sp2. she has recently tried to install and use a huawei e1762 usb modem for 3g mobile broadband(blinkit, powered by optus). the thing won't save a default setup for apn(the default setting is static, but should be dynamic). I've changed this manually, but although it claims to have saved and set as default, it still goes back to static on restart. when I connect to the net, internet explorer starts searching, then I get the bsod. it cites BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. the usb hub onboard is version 1, and the device is version 2.0. I'm stuck! Any ideas?

Answer:mobile broadband is a bytche

It would appear that this is an issue to do with the laptops outdated usb version 1 hub. the ladys bro' tried the modem on his desktop(version 2.0 hub, more RAM), and it worked no drama(still had to manually set the connection profile, though). got the mongrel working on the laptop, but very slowly. I'm thinking that only a RAM upgrade(currently 256MB - dismal!!!) & a new usb 2.0 hub on the cardbus will fix this. The modems manufacturer(Huawei) don't seem to have this model listed.

I have an X1 Carbon laptop and I have been using a local SIM card for the Mobile Broadband.  It detects the SIM and connects fine - my issue is the network seems to drop out after about 2 minutes then turn back on after 30 seconds repetitively. By drop out I mean in the network connection I loose the option of connecting to "Mobile Broadband", and just see "Airplane mode" and "Wifi", and the when it reconnects it shows the "Mobile Broadband" option, then goes to no service, then it turns on and connects to the SIM card.     I've tried switching SIM cards and moving to a new mobile broadband supplier - but the issue appears to be with the laptop. I've tried removing the SIM card completely to see if the option for "Mobile Broadband" continues to disappear but it doesn't appear to do so. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to try and fix this?

Answer:Mobile Broadband disconnecting

HiFor the troubleshhoting and test purposes switch off wifi connections capabilities to avoid auto reconnection influence.Does this issue persist at another location (office, home...)?What is the model of wwan card? What's the OS installed? Are you using any connection manager except of the system one?

I recently signed up to an Orange mobile broadband contract with 3GB monthly allowance. The software comes with a window which includes Statistics. This gives daily, monthly and yearly usage since the date the contract started. However I am not 100% sure if this gives me the info I need to see how my monthly Orange allowance is going.I phoned Orange helpline and they couldn't tell me as perhaps I have not been uploaded to their system yet. As far as they are concerned I havn't used anything! She said I would get half a month for the first month since I started on 17th Jan. She suggested using Net Traffic Meter. I checked this out but found negative reviews and wasn't sure anyway if it would provide anything extra than what I already have with the Orange Mobile Partner.Anyone any thoughts?thanks!

Answer:mobile broadband monitoring

You could try NetMeter click here not the same as Net Traffic Meter, it's supposed to be pretty good, although I haven't used it in quite a while.

Just over 2 months ago I purchased a 12 GB pay as you go deal with 3. For less than £100 it is a great deal. I only use the facility at work and over the 2 months it has become invaluable. However, I am now having problems and finding it impossible to get internet access for more than the odd few minutes. Having talked to a few other 3 users it would seem they are having the exact same problem, after 2 months of using the service without problem it comes to a sudden and almost total stop. One purchased their 12 gig deal in early Dec 2008 the other at the end of Dec 2008 and me in early 2009. In each situation after 2 months and a few days we have all started to encounter problems. The icing on the cake here is that the first of the above to purchase believed they had used their 12 gig credit and so topped up by £10 and got perfect access again for a few weeks ? I add here that they had not used up their allocation and that in fact they had only used 1.5 gigs.Has anyone else heard of this problem? If it is 3 limiting people after a few months that is outrageous and surely must be illegal? If not it is certainly immoral and should be given a nationally huge publicity push. As I said this facility had become invaluable to me and I now feel like I have lost one of my arms now at work.

Hi, I am wondering about mobile broadband's security. For example, if I use mobile broadband in my PC, and someone in the next room uses the same mobile broadband, or a mobile broadband from another company, would they be able to intercept my data? Could I do anything to increase my own security? Thanks.

Greetings, I just got a W510 and noticed the SIM card slot on the back, under the battery. I put the SIM card from my cell in, and booted back up - but I didn't see any options for the mobile broadband. So how the heck does this whole setup work? I didn't see a user manual with the laptop.

Answer:W510 Mobile Broadband How-To?

ao125, welcome to the forum,

not all W510 system have integrated WWAN, maybe yours doesn't? It may however be upgradeable. If you enter your  Type and Model Number on this site (right column in the box for select your system), you will then be presented with a description of your main components and be able to see if it has WWAN, is upgradeable or doesn't have it.

If you are unsure, post your type and model number here and other members will surely be able to help. Please do NOT post your s/n. If the model number ends in CTO there should be another number underneath the CTO, please post that.

Regards

I have had a contract with Orange for mobile broadband for about a year. The best download speed I get is a paltry 6.5Kbs where I live(middle of the country on a farm). Yesterday I was in Oxford, a decent sized city, and still I only got 6.5Kbs. Is this terrible speed compatible with the terms of the contract from a supplier such as Orange or should I be getting a better service for £15 per month? Thanks

Please pardon my naivete, but I really have very vague ideas about these sticks in terms of after purchase cost(activation? monthly?) and amount of internet time and usage(how much surfing it allows? can I watch hour/s long videos? Several times a day? Everyday?

T Mobile ZTE MF691 Rocket 3G 4G Webconnect USB Laptop Stick Modem AirCard HSDPA | eBay

Above link is an example(of several)e-bay listings of device.(stick).

NetZero is for a short time offering a year-long cost-free 4GB stick for a cost of the device. That's it.

PS: I am fully aware this topic has nothing to do with W7...but I really do not know where to go for this.

Answer:Mobile Broadband device

With those Adaptors it all depends on the tarriff/carrier as to what you get.

Normally a top up of say $10 will give you about 1-2gb of usage. Thats not a great deal of data when it comes to streaming videos, but will five you hours and hours of surfing.

I use my phone as a hotspot when im out the house, and id say i watch about 1-2 hours of youtube and netflixs a day, in a month that adds up to about 20-30gb of usage as an idea of heavy video streaming. But luckily for me i get unlimited usage on my phone with a fair usage policy of 1000GB a month.
