T400 GOBI need help..

Question: T400 GOBI need help..

Hi Everyone, I have a T400 (2765-T2U). As of now I have the Ericsson AT&T broadband card installed. I would like to have the GOBI card so I can use Sprint EVDO in the states, and an HSDPA carrier while in Europe. Does anyone know the part number for the T400 GOBI card? If I install the card will the connection manager allow me to choose Sprint in the states, or say Vodaphone while in Europe? Thanks! Matt

Preferred Solution: T400 GOBI need help..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T400 with the built in Qualcomm Gobi card that was originally sold as Verizon only.  I have ATT and didn't want to switch so I was using an external card. I noticed that the latest version of the Lenovo driver said that it added ATT support.  I figured I would give it a shot. It took a lot of installing and uninstalling but I got it to the point where it would see the tower and try to get an IP address.  I had to go into the network properties of the Qualcomm card and enable IPv4 networking to get it to work.Just posting in case this helps someone else!Getting 1.81 Mb/S down and 1.23 Mb/S up with a 161 Ping but I only have a 48% 83dbm signal

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Answer:gobi 2000, wwan not detected - non-lenovo GOBI 2000

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

So we recently purchased our first batch of Lenovo T400's (6474-R1U) and we are experiencing the weirdest problem. We have to create our own image using Norton Ghost 8.0. I wiped out the laptop and installed Windows XP with SP3 and install all of the respective Lenovo Drivers and utilities like the Finger Print Scanner, Wireless Drivers ect and the laptop is joined to our domain. But once we installed the Wireless drivers the laptops responce to an initial log on request became painfully slow and it took 1-2 minutes from the time I pressed enter after typing in my password till it actually logged on. But as soon as I uninstall the wireless drivers, this issues goes away. The T400 comes with an Intel 5100 WiFi for the wireless and I have used the newest drivers from Lenovo and Intel and I have even tracked down the factory drivers and installed those as well, but the problem continues. And when the laptop is hung, there's next to nothing hard drive activity and then it all comes as a burst when it times out.I have a feeling that something is timing out which is causing this delay but I cannot pinpoint it.So far I also found that this happens once we run ghost walker to change the SID. That seems to be corrupting the Wi-Fi capability on the system.PLEASE HELP

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad T400 2767WSD (hybrid graphics, ~ 14 months old) and I'm experiencing some weird display problems with the ATI graphics card and the internal LCD since a few weeks (*). The BIOS is the newest version (3.19), installed with the Thinkvantage System Updater. Maybe these problems result from the new BIOS version (see the changelog for 3.19 - there was something changed with the discrete graphics). Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS or install an older version (with minimal risks)? Thanks! (*) About these problems: They are visible on all systems (Windows, Linux, even the BIOS itself) when using the ATI graphic card with the internal LCD (ATI + external display or Intel graphics + internal LCD = no problems). Some colours aren't displayed in the right way (for example the grey in the BIOS or the blue #222E3A). From the distance, they look kind of "dirty" (but only slightly!) and on a closer look you can see, that there are 2 different colours (like the spray can in paint with nearly same colours). This "pattern" doesn't move with the content. It's interesting, that for example the standard colours in paint doesn't seem to be affected - but a lot of colours are (for example while playing hedgewars). Maybe this analogy isn't the best but it looks a bit like displaying a 32 bit image with 16 bit - but affects also areas with only one colour! Any suggestions/explanations?  Thank you!

So my battery on my laptop is garbage now (and I thought I was getting a good laptop , I've had it less than 2 years and the battery doesn't last more than 20 minutes :/ ) and I need a new one. So I was wondering if a battery listed under T400-7417 would work on the T400-2768? Also if anyone knows where I can get good deals on batteries (that is, not the Lenovo website), that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Answer:Is it possible to use a T400-7417 battery on a T400-2768 model?

All T400 batteries are compatible. I avoid the aftermarket batteries. I believe they are junk. Sometimes the Lenovo outlet has a good deal. Do a Google search on "Lenovo scratch and Dent"

Asyrov, welcome to the forum, it is clear that you seem to be unhappy about something regarding an order you placed, what is not clear is what you are unhappy about. You do not state what exactly had changed in the configuration to make you so unhappy, just that you are unhappy about something. It would be helpfull if you could maybe provide a little more detail and then members will be able to offer advice according to their experiences. If I understand it all correctly, you ordered a system with shared graphic but have now realised you require discrete graphic?  Thanks in advanceMessage Edited by andyP on 10-19-2008 09:23 PM

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

I have a number of Thinkpad x131e notebook PCs and need to order a WWAN module for it.  The only supported WWAN mPCI-e card listed is the Gobi 3000 MC8355 model, which is the slower 3G modem.  Has anyone used the GOBI 4000 or 5000 series LTE modems? I've seen posts about Lenovo whitelisting certain hardware, but I can't seem to find that list.  Are there electrical limitations that would prevent Lenovo from whitelisting the LTE modems?  If not, this type of hardware lock would be a deal breaker for any future Thinkpad orders for my company. Hardware is Thinkpad x131e Type 3372 Thanks,Jay

Answer:Gobi 4000 in x131e?

x131e doesn't support Gobi 4000 or 5000 or any other LTE wwan cards officially. Look at the followed file and find out "wireless card" section:http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/X131e_AMD_FRU_BOM.pdfJust Ericsson h5321gw is another supported wwan card. Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

Also if I get it from another vendor will it be the same (have the same form factor to fit)? 2) Others have posted that the Gobi 2000 is unlocked (works with carriers around the world), is that the case for the 3000? 3) For installation on the X120e, how accessible is the SIM on the 2000/3000? I may have to switch out the SIM frequently and having to open up the computer to get to it would not be feasible.

I'm not sure about your other questions, except to say that whatever card you put in there should be a Lenovo branded card or you may get an unauthorized card error at bootup.

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

W520, i7-2820QM, BIOS 1.25, 1920x1080 FHD, 16 GB RAM, 2000M NVIDIA GPU, 500GB HDD, INTEL 6300, GOBI 3000 3G, COLOR CALIBRATOR, WINDOWS 7 PRO, FINGERPRINT READER

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Hi.I have an issue on several w510's with bluescreen caused by the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 driver/card. I'm running W7 x64I have read the other post here about this, but nothing outlined in those posts resolved the problem for me.I have opened a supportcase with Lenovo in Norway, but they couldn't help. Can someone here help me out? Anders

Answer:W510 Gobi bluescreen

I'm not sure exactly when the bluescreen occur in your case since you didn't include any details, but i can confirm that i have a bluescreen problem with the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. I have all the latest drivers/BIOS from Lenovo and the latest version of access connections. When i switch from a wireless profile to mobile broadband i get a bluescreen. Seems like it happen pretty late when the mobile broadband profile is applied so might be when AC try to turn off the wlan radio. For some reason it doesn't happen if i try right after a reboot. Also it seems like it neither happen if i disable the radio of the wlan adapter before i switch to the mobile broadband profile in AC. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on a W510 witht the Q820 CPU. So far i have not found a solution to this problem and i have not tried without AC to see if the problem go away. At the moment i just turn off the wlan radio before switching profiles and seems like that workaround fix the problem. This is not a solution, but a workaround until fixed. -gan

Hi, I have just purchased a refurbished X201t that has a Gobi 2000 WWAN installed. How do I set this up?  I assume that I need to install a SIM card but I can't find any information on how to do so. Thanks  Simon.

Answer:Setting up Gobi on X201t

If your X201 is WWAN ready there should be a slot for the SIM card behind the battery. Also there should be a slot for the WWAN adapter which i believe should be under the keyboad, but not 100% for sure for the X201. If the computer is WWAN ready there should be two wires for the antenna by the slot for the adapter. Then you need to download and install the driver and that's basically it. The Thinkpads usually got a whitelist in BIOS for these kind of cards so if you buy a Gobi 2000 WWAN card from Lenovo should work fine, but buy it somewhere else might give you a error that says "Unauthorized hardware" during post. I'm not sure if this is the case here, but if you install the card i guess you will find out If you have some problems with these steps please explain what part where you have some questions like finding the SIM slot, installing the card, installing the drivers and so on. -gan

Hi, Anybody have a chance to activate the Gobi 2000 with Sprint, I read somewhere it is possible but no instruction. I can only see AT&T and Verizon for my options. Thanks

Answer:W510 with Gobi 2000

I'm having the exact same problem activating the GOBI 2000 with Sprint.  I'm running Win 7 x64.  The drivers from Lenovo are installed as well as Sprint Smartview for "embedded devices".  I've given sprint the MEID number from tools -> mobile info within smartview and I'm having no luck.  The accepted the number but still no go.  I found on the sprint site where to user the PRL_Upload utility for GOBI 1000 and 2000 devices but it just immediately fails when trying to connect to the device.  Have you had any luck with this??  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. At first I want to say sorry for my maybe bad English-skills. My T400 has some problems with the hybrid-combination Radeon 3450 and the Intel-graphic.If I install the the normal drivers from the Lenovo-site the hybrid works and I can change it with the energy-manager. But OpenGL and Direct3D dont work. I cant play Call of Duty for example, it gives me a fail-message with both cards. Then I tried the Catalyst-ATI-driver with Moility-Modder. This works but I cant use the bybrid-mode now. And after every restart the Ati-graphic is deactivated even though I switched to discrete-graphic in Bios and Windows always uses the Intel-graphic. I hope someone can give me some infos how to make it work again, preferably in hybrid-mode. Many thanks and greets to the Lenovo-community, jimmy

Has anyone been succesfull in getting this to work, I've got 15 laptops not one of which is working with the Gobi 5000 and Verizon.   If you have been succesful are you using Verizon Access Manager or Lenovo Access Connections?  How did you go about getting it to connect.  The furthest I've got with all my monkeying around is for Lenovo Access Connections to show Verizon but not be able to connect. Verizon's site mentions nothing of the Gobi 5000 and Lenovo's drivers dont' work,  downloading the Sierra drivers from Sierra allows the device to show in Access Connections but is still not usable.

Just installed the Gobi 2000 WWAN (ATT) into a new x100e. It is running Win7 Pro/ 64 Bits.. I installed the latest Access Connections, latest x100e Bios, and Gobi WWAN Driversfrom the Lenovo product support site- but the adapter is failing on startup. Access connections begins to connect but then gives a red x by"Powering on adapter" When I use the FN+F5 hotkey to check it - I am unable to power on the adaptermanually (WLAN powers on/off perfectly) What could be causing this problem? thanks,-bill

Answer:x100e Win7 64 Bit with GOBI 2000

OK -Just installed the latest BIOS, and all the recent power management updates. The WWAN radio finally powers on- and I noticed the presentation of the FN-F5menu has been changed with a "Master Control" switch-which must be enabled before powering on the individual radios. So it must have been some sort of power management/ x100e BIOS/ Gobi WWAN driver issue. So far so good- but I am going to keep testing some more... -bill

First of all thank you for a great product. I have had my x201 tablet with outdoor display for more than half a year and it has worked really well! The keyboard, mouse-buttons, display, design features, feel, support (Sweden) and so on has been excellent so far! Yes, there are small design flaws like the pitching sound and a little accuracy problems at the edges, but it really is small compared to the positive things. I think you need some encouragement these days, espacially with the  accuracy problems facing the x220t. However, my question is about the GPS reciever with the Gobi 2000. When I use the GPS enabler it takes a long time to get a fix, and also the reception isn´t very good. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance? I saw in an old thread here on the forum about the problem, but it was for over a year ago and probably somewhat outdated. Thanks, Andre

I have a quick question for those who have the Gobi 3G. When you first turn on your computer does your WWAN light stay on and remain on until you log in into Windows? Since my bluetooth light and WLAN turns off immediately after going past the BIOS screen. Since there are times when I didn't log in and my battery life was pretty drained. Wondering if there's any fix or setting changes I can make? Or is this even normal? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 3G Card powers on always at start?

Hello mate, My gobi doesn't turn on at startup. If I turn my computer off with the gobi on, the next start it will be on. But if you shut it down before turning off your laptop it shouldn't be on at startup.

Hi Axure!

Yes the Gobi 2000 is inside the X201T. You'll find it in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

"Open SIM Card: WW" means that there is no country/carrier-specific SIM card included (WW=WorldWide).

Hope this helps!

I was just wondering if this is normal. Even when I have Gobi 2000 turned off in Windows, if I turn off my comp and then turn it back on, the led light indicator for the gobi card broadband lights on until I log into Windows.Where the bluetooth light and WLAN turns on for a brief moment during the BIOS screen, but then turns off the moment after (while the WWAN light stays on still). Is this normal? Or is there a setting I can tweak, since I added the gobi card after I bought my x201T. It wasn't factory preinstalled.

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying an X120e when I visit the US next month (for some strange reason they're not selling it in Europe at all). I'm interested in the mobile broadband modem option, but $125 is too much for me to pay at this moment, and I'm not sure whether it'll be locked to US networks. I would therefore like to buy the Gobi 2000 or 3000 later on from eBay and use it in the laptop. Would this work fine on O2 or Three UK, or would I run into some odd issues?

Waited 2 months to get the gobi 5000 only to realize that the model it was built for (T431s) is not currently compatible. Would appreciate any help!

Answer:T431s and GOBI 5000 - THERE IS NO DRIVER!!

I?m looking at replacing my old Thinkpad T43 at home with a new T510. I?m confused as to the difference between the WWAN option and a GOBI 2000 card. They seem to accomplish the same thing. Could someone please elaborate? Thank you, Jesse

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I'm ready to throw this thing back to Lenovo.  I have the GOBI broadband card installed, installed the latest drivers, installed the bootup upgrade, have the latest BIOS, replaced the GOBI with a new one and the same thing keeps happening.  My GOBI keeps cycling offline every couple of seconds.  I can watch the device manager and it keeps refreshing first showing the GOBI and then it's gone.  The radio button recycles also.  It first shows it as off, then disabled, then it diappears then comes back as off then disabled so on and so forth.  Nothing seems to help and I'm fed up with this thing.  I have to have the broadband option however, I now have to go back to my old Dell to work with as I cannot figure this one out. Windows 7 64 bit, 8gig of RAM, I7 core processor, 300gig SATA HD

Answer:W510 GOBI 2000 issues

This thing is getting worse.  I can't even work with the device manager as it keeps refreshing every time that the GOBI goes online and offline.  What a piece of junk.  This thing is going back as soon as I get back from travel!!!!

> the Gobi 2000 has GPS caability so I was wondering if there is any software for the X220 I can use to leverage it over what Windows 10 has?not a location application is a problem. Gobi 2000 GPS receiver should be turned on in order to use it. Under win7 this action performs Lenovo application "GPS Enabler". But it's missing for win8/10. I didn't test it under win10 in the compatibility mode either.Another way to control the GPS receiver is to use AT commands.> where can I place the SIM card?in the battery compartment.

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

There are many issues known with the Gobi 2000, but now I am at a point where the solutions found in the internet do not help me any further:- drivers are installed, device shows in the device manager, firmware is set to vodafon- I just don't know how to turn on the 3G-card, it neither does not show in the connection manager (CTRL-F5) nor can it be turned on with other software Does anyone know how to solve this issue? ThanksS

I have set up an ATT Data 2 account for this device.  However, I have no idea how to connect and received no documentation on the device or software requirements with my computer.  Can someone help me with this.

Answer:Qualcomm Gobi Broadband Wireless

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

I am having a difficult time getting the Gobi 2000 Broadband device turned ON.  I've installed the unlocked version, Windows sees it and I load the drivers, which install successfully.  Both ThinkPad AccessConnections and ATT Communication Manager see it, but they say it is turned off.  Am I missing something?

Answer:T410 and Gobi 2000 Issue

Have you turned it on in the hotkey driver? Press Fn-F5 and select the Wireless WAN option on.

Hi I have just got a T420 (Win 7 64bit) which did not have a 3g module. I took the gobi 2000 out of my t410i and put it in this machine. I have installed the driver for the t410 and it installs perfectly, although it does not list the T420 as a compatible machine.  I can create the dialup with the gobi modem but I keep getting an error 619 and it will not connect. I have tried installing access connections and connecting via mobile broadband but still no luck. If I go to in access connection to advanced, tools, mobile broadband (which is now no longer greyed out) I can see existing SMSs on the sim card but send or receive new SMS so it seems the card is not registered on the mobile network. If I press FN+F5, WWAN  is not listed so I can?t turn it on. Any ideas?

Answer:T420 and Qualcomm Gobi 2000

Make sure you enabled the card in BIOS.

Hey,   I'll be traveling a bit next month and would like to have my 3g modem (on sprint or verizon) active during that time.. But when I look at the Activation service plans available I only see ones with commitments.. Does anyone know how to activate our 3G cards on plans that do not require a 2 year commitment.. Ideally I would love the plans to be a granular as the 4g card is (which is down to daily passes if you really want to pay for them). ThanksJosh

Answer:Any No-Commitment 3G plans for our Gobi cards?

Hello mate, You just have to insert the sim card. If your modem is unlocked it will work no need activation.I use a prepaid mobile sim card when I'm on the move and never have problem in any country.

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

Answer:T500 and GOBI 2000 Broadband

Hi pawj68, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Hmmm... the T500 Hardware Maintenance Manual doesn't list the newer GOBI 2000... just the Ericsson F3507g and Qualcomm UNDP1 (GOBI 1000).  Either of those will work.

I have a T400 that I just in-place upgraded to Windows 7. Various unpleasant things happened, but the one I'm working on first is that the CDMA card (Qualcomm Gobi) no longer works. The driver has the yellow exclaimation thing. So to Lenovo's driver download site. Good news, there's a Windows 7 driver listed. However, there's no actual file (!!). I get to this page : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69999.html with the title :This package provides the Wireless WAN driver to enable the following adapters.- Qualcomm HS-USBHowever, it then says below:No available downloads So Lenovo folks, where is the driver ?

My new Gobi 2000 WWAN PCI-Card arrived today (this one). However, I am having trouble installing it. I tried both HP and Lenovo drivers for GOBI 2000. Under "Device Manager" I see "WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2" and "HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module". Both of them dont have correct drivers.  I read in some forum post that sometimes the BIOS whitelist has to be modified in order to get the card to work.. how would I do that? Is there any other way of getting it to work? I care about the GPS more than about the 3G. Cant use Access Connections because of Win8.  Thanks in advance.

Is there something wrong with the way the Gobi driver version is reported to the OS? I have a Revolve 810 G3 with the lt4211 Gobi 4G card.  I've applied three different driver packages:  v.1.1.0.77, v.1.1.0.84, and v.1.1.0.85.  Each time it runs for a long time, and eventually ends successfully.   But every single time, when I reboot and then check Windows Device Manager, the driver version reports back as v.1.0.1.24.  It's very important that I get the driver updated to the latest version, but how can I be sure that it actually worked?!

Hi, I have a T410 which is a solid PC.  0 issues.... Until I switch on the Gobi 2000 card and connect.  A which point, after a random duration ( 3 mins - 30 mins ), will cause the PC to lockup. By lockup I mean the mouse freezes, everythin stops responding.  Display remains continuous, no BSOD etc. Only a hard power button reset will turn the PC off and then on again. The latest drivers posted are installed. Does anyone else have this, or have a suggestion?  Thanks

Answer:T410 Gobi 2000 PC lockup

A couple things to try.

1) re-seat the Gobi card
2) uninstall and reinstall the drivers
3) What connection manager are you using? Access Connections, or a carrier connection manager or Win7 CM? Does the hang only happen with a specific connection manager?

1. Do the device items in Device Manager persist without exclamation or question marks?2. What carrier do you plan to work with?3. Did you install and launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation application for Verizon carrier?4. What do you mean exactly when say "It seems no matter what I do"?
