ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.0 Card 39T0497 on T500

Question: ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.0 Card 39T0497 on T500

Does anyone know if the Bluetooth Daughter Card (BDC) for a T61 will work on a T500 Thinkpad?T61 model: 39T0497T500 model: 42T0969 The difference between these 2 cards is that the T61 is Bluetooth 2.0 and the one for the T500 is Bluetooth 2.1 But on a connection perspective point of view, does the 39T0497 will work on a T500?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,For quite some time now I've been having problems with Bluetooth (BT) devices on my T500 Win7 64 bit with devicesranging from like my older Nokia C2-01 mobile phone to my new UE ROLL 360 wireless speakers. at this stage the BTicon appeared correctly upon startup and in the device manager there where no errors, whereas the BT devices wereidentified as:a. Thinkpad bluetooth with Enhanced Date Rate IIb. Microsoft Bluetooth data EnumeratorSo from googling I figured all those BT problems might be caused by improper driver installations of BT relateddevices, which led to the use of the Microsoft enumerator instead of the actual needed devices. So I uninstalled it specifically, and was left with an unknown device, with the detail value of:BTH\MS_BTHBRBFrom here on everything only got worse :-(I've reckoned that in order to fix this I should just downloaded the latest official Lenovo driver from:http://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/ds013631 (Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II released21/2/2014).After installation (and required reboot), I was now stuck with an unknown device, with the following 2 details valuestrings:USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145&REV_0352USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145From googling this I've realized it's related to the Broadcom Bluetooth driver. So I've downloaded the latest official Broadcom Bluetooth driver from:https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth (WIDCOMM® Bluetooth Windows® Software for Windows 7 and Vista, 64-Bitreleased 04/08/2016).After thi... Hi and welcome to the forum!

The card must be lenovo approved, on following page the compatible ones are listed with FRU numbers:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-71037#23

Yep, the recovery disc should have the driver, but if it doesn't you can install from support site.

Hope this helps.

This seems to be a recurring theme as I've found several entries on this subject but no real solutions. I have an Actiontec MI424WR router. I have had at least 6 different wireless devices connected to this router that include MS and Linksys game routers, Xbox, 2 Lenovo t42 thinkpads and a t60p think pad. All work flawlessly so I don't think this is a router issue. Windows Vista Home As soon as the connection drops, I go to access connections and bring it up and it reconnects. I've downloaded the latest drivers, ran thru all the lenovo updates. Help!

Hi All, This is my first post to the forum and I was hoping that someone could give me some assistance with an issue that I?m having with setting up and configuring Bluetooth on my ThinkPad T43 model 2686-DHU I had a different model T43 ThinkPad (gotta love these things they are just rock solid) and it did not have the Bluetooth module so I bought a BT daughter card for it FRU 27R1880, (which according to what I read on the forum and at various sites is compatible with the T43) but alas when I opened my original T43 I thought it had the BT antenna and then when I went to put in the card, found I was mistaken, no antenna. So I dropped the card in the unit and just left it there knowing that I couldn?t use the built-in BT. Then a couple of weeks ago my wife dropped my ThinkPad on the floor so I had to buy a replacement T43 the above mentioned 2686-DHU. While in the process of pulling the memory, HD etc out of my broken unit to install in the new one I noticed that this one had a the BT antenna and I thought ah ha I?m in business. The 2686-DHU ThinkPad is running WinXP Pro SP3After installing my old hard drive in it I updated all the IBM drivers and BIOS from the Lenovo website to the latest release for the 2686-DHU before I tried messing with the BT. I know that the BT card works because if I let the MS drivers install I can see the ThinkPad from other BT devices. However, the MS drivers don?t support the functionality I want, namely Stereo over BT. ... Read more

Hello, through "Lenovo Update & Drivers" utility i installed ThinkPad update "THINKPAD Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II 6.2.1.3100" which is bluetooth solution by BROADCOM corp which has much better user interface and detailed settings than implemented Microsoft W7 bluetooth solution named "MICROSOFT Bluetooth Enumerator". The problem is that after installation of this update on my Windows 7 there is still functional this "MICROSOFT Bluetooth Enumerator". I tried to disable it in "Device Manager" but after several restart of my computer nothing happened and this "MICROSOFT Bluetooth Enumerator" is still active. It seems that this "MICROSOFT Bluetooth Enumerator" came probably with some Windows actualization. The "THINKPAD Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II 6.2.1.3100" is installed on my computer successfuly - i can see it in Programs. And "Device Manager" says that this service also works OK. Can anybody help me to get rid off MICROSOFT/Windows7 bluetooth solution ("MICROSOFT Bluetooth Enumerator"), please? Do you know how to COMPLETELY uninstall this?I want use on my computer original LENOVO ThinkPad bluetooth by BROADCOM. Thank you for your notes and help.Xs

Because we've had the machine for 2 years, it's very difficult to find any information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated: I confirmed that we purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO with bluetooth -- but until now, we have not ever tried to use it. [We're running Windows 7 [64-bit] on it.] There is no Bluetooth Control Panel with which to add a device [in our case, a bluetooth mouse]. The only information I can find lists using the Fn+F5 key to access a window to enable it [yet, this was for a different model]. Using these keys doesn't bring up any such window. I would suppose adding a bluetooth mouse would be much less of an ordeal than this is becoming. I must be missing something. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO - Enabling Bluetooth and Adding Bluetooth Devices

Hi, musesupport

If you enter the BIOS of your machine by tapping Enter at the splash screen (screen that says Lenovo while starting up), there should be a tab called Security. Open this tab and then select I/O Port Access. Is there a Bluetooth setting in this list? If so, is it set to Enabled?

If the Bluetooth is set to Enabled, then I would recommend making sure all the drivers (Bluetooth, BIOS, and chipset, in particular) are up to date. All drivers for your machine can be found here.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Answer:T500: add bluetooth

takedown,

This question has come up before in other threads.  Basically, the bluetooth card for the T500 is located behind the LCD bezel.  Any parts concerning the LCD are not replaceable by customers.

So if you order your system without bluetooth, the best route is a peripheral solution (like you already have).  Having a licensed servicer install this part would be expensive.

Is the LED behind the bluetooth icon on the T500 panel permanently on?  In both XP and Win 7, I've never had bluetooth running in the background -- I've disabled the service.  I'll enable it should I ever need it.  For now it's just a battery drain. So what's the story on this light?  Does this mean that bluetooth is still running somehow?  If bluetooth is going to suck power regardless of my OS settings, I don't much see the point of this light -- it's always on anyway, so what does the light tell me exactly? Maybe my light is stuck?

Answer:T500 Bluetooth light always on

Disabling the driver doesn't disable power to the hardware.  Turn the hardware switch off on the front of the system and see if the light stays on.  If it does, contact Lenovo.fakelogin wrote:Is the LED behind the bluetooth icon on the T500 panel permanently on?  In both XP and Win 7, I've never had bluetooth running in the background -- I've disabled the service.  I'll enable it should I ever need it.  For now it's just a battery drain. So what's the story on this light?  Does this mean that bluetooth is still running somehow?  If bluetooth is going to suck power regardless of my OS settings, I don't much see the point of this light -- it's always on anyway, so what does the light tell me exactly? Maybe my light is stuck?

Hallo!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse hakt und ruckelt seit Creators Update am Thinkpad P70 ...

I got the same problem.... But first let me translate this for everybody here.  My P70 (or in my case P71) has a problem to keep the connection estimated between the Lenovo mouse and my Laptop. Got the current driver installed.  The German guy above me got the same issue after the creators update.   I set everything Bluetooth related in Device Manager up to NOT let windows turn of the device to save power.  The mouse cuts out for 5 sec and comes back on. If you turn the mouse upside down during that time I noticed that the battery led toggles on and off. So it reboots. So I assume it's driver related to because it worked perfectly fine before on the L530 guys machine.

My T500 running Win 7 Ultimate 64 cannot connect to any bluetooth device.  Tried both Motorola H300 headset and Microsoft Mobile 6000 keyboard.  Both work with other computers. Yes, I have installed all currecnt Lenovo drivers.  ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate version 6.3.5.430 and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator appear in Windows Device Manager and show working correctly. Yes, I have verified the bluetooth radio is on.  LED indicator is on.  FN+F5 menu shows bluetooth is on.  I have a bluetooth icon in the system tray. There are no warnings in the device manager. I can go to "Add a device" and Windows says it is searching but none are found. I even tried using a Belkin USB bluetooth dongle that will connect the keyboard to another computer and no devices are found by the Thinkpad. Appears that bluetooth is being blocked somehow.  I have completely dissabled Symantec Endpoint and Windows firewall. I realize that there are a mulittude of threads on this and other forums about bluetooth not working.  I have read and tried every solution previously listed with no success.  Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi guys, I recently had to replace HDD and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my laptop, and when it came to re-downloading drivers, I encountered a few problems. First being, the bluetooth. When I was installing the 'Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software' I kept getting an error: "Bluetooth SoftwareNo Bluetooth device was detected. Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue installation."  Which is strange because when I inserted my previous hard drive, my bluetooth was working flawlessly. I even tried installing the same software from the same HDD onto other HDD, yet the problem persisted. The light on the panel is not lighting up. Another problem is with the Function keys. I downloaded and installed 4 different versions of  'Hotkey Features Integration' software, and I'm still not getting any feedback when using the volume keys, ThinkVantage button, Fn+F2, or any other one. I rebooted the computer multiple times, reinstalled the software multiple times, and even looked in CMOS settings as to 'what could be wrong'.  Thank you in advance.

As soon as I posted this, I frantically started hitting various Fn keys. After I pressed Fn+F8, the touchpad settings window popped up, a balloon saying "New hardware detected" and Bluetooth started installing, and when I clicked Fn+F5, the settings window came to life. I really don't know the cause of this, but I think something was stalling the system for 2 days straight. I don't know what the solution is, but if anyone will experience this in the future, please try hitting every single key on the F1-F12 row while holding Fn.  Regards, Ruslan.

I have upgraded my T500 to windows 7 (for the G2 Intel SSD. Where's my TRIM damnit!) and I am trying to get my AD2P Bluetooth headset to talk to the laptop. The can pair but continually complain there is no driver for the Bluetooth peripheral device. I have the latest Thinkpad Bluetooth stack installed. Is there some way to fool the Broadcom drivers into letting me install the official stack? Is there some beta stack out there? This doesn't seem to be a Windows 7 issue, the pairing occurs, and I'm using the same driver the Vista people use. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Peter Berbec

Answer:T500 AD2P Bluetooth Woes

What do you mean by "Thinkpad Bluetooth stack installed"?is "stack" the same as software/driver? I can only witness my own problem: bluetooth installed correcty but didn't work properly. My laser bluetooth connection would often drop (although the mouse was always displayed in the device manager) and I always had to turn the bluetooth off and and on to make it work, which became irritating after a couple of weeks. I finally found out that I had the wrong driver version installed: If you look in the device manager, you will see that you probably have driver version 6.2.0.9000 for the bluetooth device.unfortunately this is not good enough after the xxxx9000 there are more numbers (which are not displayed).I realized there are 2 drivers version out there. the one that windows 7 installed and the one provided by Lenovo. The one provided by Microsoft has version 6.2.0.9000.300 I believe. the one provided by lenovo is 6.2.0.9000.000I uninstalled the most recent version xxxxxx.300 and put back the one from lenovo website.again, I can't remember if is was xxxxxx.300 but it was higher than xxxxx.000Since then my mouse works consistently

Answer:1TB HDD in a Thinkpad T500?

Most of the larger drives (>= 750GB) use something called "advanced formatting". That means that the tracks are divided into 4kb sectors, rather than 512-byte sectors. I run a 750GB drive in my W500, so I doubt there are any other problems. In general, once you deal with advanced formatting, there are no other problems until you go over 2TB, where you need to format it as a GPT rather than an MBR drive. The considerations related to advanced formatting depend on what OS you are using, so do a search (using whatever search engine you like) on "Advanced format drives vista" substituting your OS.

As Vista SP2 will include bluetooth 2.1 support, will there still be any point of installing the Lenovo driver? Do they offer any advantage over the micosoft drivers? Regarding the WLAN drivers, I see there are more recent drivers on the Intel website, but won't there be any problems if I use these? On their website intel mentions that you might want to use the laptop manufacturers drivers. Does it make any sense, speed-wise, not to install drivers for devices you usually never use (e.g. internal modem, card reader)? Thanks

Hello, I've read several posts about this, but none of them solved my problem. I have a T500 2055-RH2, with windows 7 64bits. I just bought a bluetooth mouse online and imagine how I feel after 3 hours of useless debugging to install a mouse. Actually, my problem is more basic, I just can't seem to have bluetooth working. I tried to install: Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7, Vista - ThinkPad  When I do install this, it eventually says I have no bluetooth device, so somehow my bluetooth adapter is NOT enabled. I then tried to do Fn-F5 to enable it, but it's no use, because I can only see my WIFI in there, no trace of bluetooth... From the forum, I tried to install: ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 I think it was already installed, but I installed it anyway, still no change, nothing in Fn-F5, still nothing. I then even installed a WIDCOMM (broadcom) driver, but then again, it says it can't find any bluetooth device. Are there any depencies I don't know about? Should I reinstall anything? What the HELL is wrong?! How hard is it supposed to be to install such a basic function as bluetooth??! Should I throw that laptop out the window? Because I really want to... (arg!)  Help please...! Thanks...

Hi, I'm having some difficulty in getting my bluetooth headset to work with Skype (or anything else for that matter). here's the current state of things: My headset is set up and paired as a "hands free audio device". In "my bluetooth places" it shows up with a good signal strength. Authorization is set to "headset" only (no audio gateway). The version of the Broadcom Bluetooth Software is 5.5.0.580  . Looks pretty ok - but unfortunately it shows neither up as an  audio device in the control panel (Win XP SP3) - nor does Skype recognize the headset. Maybe I'm overlooking something fundamental...? Any input would be appreciated. Thomas PS.: The headset works fine on my cellphone. And I can synchronize the cellphone with the laptop via Bluetooth, no problems there.Message Edited by ThBa on 03-15-2009 05:43 PM

Answer:Problem with T500, Bluetooth Headset, and Skype

AFAIK most of the bluethooth headsets for mobile phones don't work with a normal pc (nokia has one which works for both). Try to google a little, you find lots of problems about this!

I've been looking at the threads over in the R Thinkpads & SL Thinkpads forums for solutions to do with Nokia's & Activesync with TP BT as I have some users with Nokias. What I wasn't expecting was to run into the same problems with my Treo 750 on WinMobile v6 - it connects just fine on USB cable, syncs all my stuff but simply will not talk to the Treo on BT. I nuked the Treo & rebuilt - same result. I removed BT Enhanced II software, deleted the BT device from Network in Device Manager, tried to use the MS BT drivers (failed) tried to run an Update Drivers by Scanning for new devices then pointing it to the folder with the w32 drivers, edited the Bth.inf file with the id's from the BT in device manager... One thing I noticed was the on reinstall of the BT software, the BT device manager entry moved from Network Adapters into a Bluetooth Devices folder in Device Manager. And now, instead of just the BT adapter showing, I have Bluetooth Bus Enumerator AND Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate II Any ideas on how to get this working? Seeing as I am getting the same result with a Palm device as the Nokia, I am thinking this is an incompatability between Activesync & Widcomm BT stack rather than anything phone related. Any suggestions for a way to connect phones for Outlook sync without using Activesync? The BT works - when I first connected I got a phone call & was able to use the computer mic & headphones to carry out the ca... Read more

Hi there, First time poster here so please excuse me should I have done something wrong. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 with the Intel T9600 and AMD HD 3650. However I'm afraid it might be overheating. Without doing anything, anything at all CPU temps are around 60 degrees Celcius and the GPU temps are almost at 70. I started a GPU stresstest and had to abort it about 1/3rd in because I was afraid the high temperature (almost at 100 degrees) could cause serious damage. Are these temperatures indeed too high or am I just worrying to much? And if things are wrong, is this a warranty issue?  Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad T500 overheating?

If your unit is under warranty, send it in asap. You need this fixed.  If it's not in warranty, then I'd remove your heatsink and clean and replace the thermal paste using Artic Silver #5 (not too much though). Then install TPfancontrol (tpfancontrol.com) and confirm your fan is functioning properly.  ps. This will probably be moved to the T500 section soon.

Right, im going to be buying a new laptop soon and i am on a bit of a budget, all i need is a laptop that is very quick with day to day computing as this will be my secondary computer so no gaming will be done on it, i am just wandering if these specifications will be able to run a 1440p youtube video at 60fps which would be the most intensive thing to be done on this laptop the specs are: Thinkpad T500 casing Thinkpad W500 Motherboard Thinkpad T61 1920x1200 display ATI mobility FireGL v5700 Graphics Intel Core2 Quad Extreme Edition QX930016GB DDR3 Duel 256gb Sandisk Z400s ssd in raid 0 Intel 7260ac Wireless adaptor MX-4 Thermal paste Windows 10 Pro x64 Custom unwhitelisted BIOS

Answer:Custom Thinkpad T500

Welcome to the forum!

Those specs could probably run such a video, (I'm not 100% sure though), however there are some restrictions to your wishlist.

T500/W500 support max 8GB RAM (2x 4GB)
A QX9300 won't work on a T500/W500, at least not without intense BIOS modifications
Even if you manage to install it and get it to work, you will till have to enhance the cooling too, since the heastsink for this models is design to cool a CPU TDP of 35W (I think the QX9300 is 45W)
RAID is not supported in this generation AFAIK

You may need to check newer ThinkPad generations if the above is important for your needs.

Hi everyone. I am using this forum as i have no other options left, in fixing a Lenovo ThinkPad T500. The first time, with both battery and power plug connected, or just battery / power connected, when the pw button was pressed, nothing happened (no video, no audio signals, no fan, no hdd, no status leds). So, i disassembled the laptop, removed all it's components (memory module, keyboard, trackpoint, fingerprint reader, hdd, cd/dvd drive, lcd, wireless, internal modem, cpu, cmos battery). After a reassembly of the laptop, at power on, status leds are like in the picture below, the cpu fan is running for a couple of seconds, and the hdd is running without the hdd status led flickering, but there is no image on lcd and no audio signals. I tried to power on the laptop with battery and power, just battery and/or just power. In the picture below, there are only the necessary components connected: cpu, memory module, lcd, speakers, keyboard, trackpoint, and also hdd and cv/dvd drive. I also connected a external monitor, but there was no video signal.   As i have no video and/or audio messages/signals, i can't fully diagnose the laptop. I am hoping that someone have had the same situation, or knows what might be the problem.I would appreciate any help!THANKS.

Answer:ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Try this:Disconnect the AC, remove the battery.Press the power button ten times quickly in succession, then hold it for ten seconds.

Hi everyone Just got an extra T500 in my door. Its pretty standard with a P8400 and integrated graphics. My plan with this laptop is to upgrade it. RAM I already got from an old dead Asus so what I was thinking about was upgrading the CPU. I have looked at a lot of old posts and from what I can see it should be possible to upgrade to a T9900. Is there anyone who have done this succesfully? And what is the best P series CPU a T500 be compatible with?

Thinkpad T500 - C2D P9500 - 8GB RAM - Intel X4500 - 120 GB Intel 330 SSD,Thinkpad T61 - C2D T9300 - 4GB RAM - NVS 140M - 120 GB Samsung 840 SSD,Thinkpad T60 - T2400 - 3GB RAM - GMA950 - 60 GB Samsung 840,And a lot more....

Answer:Thinkpad T500 CPU upgrade

yes you can do it. I think P9700 is the best P series, but i would just get a T9900 instead, cheaper and similar performance.

Hi all, I have a Lenovo T500 (2089-AR1) with Windows Vista Business installed from factory. It still has all the partitions installed. I am looking to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit (possibly Pro or Ultimate). I have a few questions on how I should go about this: a) I have spoke to the Lenovo customer support and I was sent to (www.lenovorecovery.com). I noticed that they have all recovery discs etc; if I ordered a Windows 7 recovery disc, would it overwrite my recovery partitions with the new Windows 7 clean installation. Would the actual installation work also given that my system is currently on Windows Vista 64 bit. b) There is a lot of mention regarding the Lenovo Enhanced Experience for Windows 7. If I use the factory OEM discs will I get the benefit from EE. Thanks all,Josh.

Answer:Thinkpad T500 ~ Windows 7

Hi and welcome,

I don't think you can get factory media except for the OS originally licensed to your machine.  This document wasn't directly aimed at your question, but I believe "Important..." #1 addresses it.  When is it possible to switch between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Operating Systems by u... Tried this myself once and got turned down

Your best shot is probably to just clean install Windows 7 from MS media (save your stuff first!), then install ThinkVantage System Update and let it install all the Lenovo stuff.  You may have to manually install Rescue and Recovery if you want to use it.  ISTR that I had to do that manually on my T400 in the same scenario.

You will be able to make "running" backups, but won't have the option to return to factory config via the Think button.

Z.

Hello, i just wanted to know some insight on the t500. I found one that im thinking of buying, mainly cause i can upgrade ram to 8gb and it has newer stuff like sata instead of pata for the hdd and cd drive. But one thing im worried about is , this screen flicker i have been hearing about going to be a major problem. The t500 has switchable graphics so i head that the intel integrated gfx has the flicker problem but the deticated ati card in the laptop doesn't so i could run just off of the ati card and not the intel chipset. I heard that doing this pulls more power but i don't CARE, i just want a newer laptop that is faster than my t41 and it wont destroy the bank for a quality laptop.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500

Screen flicker is most pertinent to the LED backlit models but is only visible if you are sensitive to flicker and only in certain viewing conditions. If you get a CCFL backlit one, you should not experience any flicker, but the backlight will be dimmer

I have a T500 that I've used for a couple of years and it does well enough for me but I thought about using the slot occupied by my Gobi 2000 WAN card to install a M.2 SSD drive for additional storage.  Specificially, I chose a Samsung 850 EVO.   Windows 7 will not recognize it as anything other than a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" and cannot locate drivers for it.  Samsung Magician will not recognize it, either, and I do not see anything in the BIOS that would allow me to activate the device.  At any rate, my O/S reads the device but cannot load drivers for it. Am I correct in concluding that I cannot use a M.2 storage device in this particular model? Thanks!

I have a small scratch on my LCD screen. It's a 1680x1050 screen. Some questions: 1) Where is the best place to get a replacement screen? 2) Is it also possible to replace it with the 1280x800 LED screen or can it only be replaced with the same exact screen? 3) Are there any instructions on how to replace the screen? 4) Is it possible to fix the scratch? 5) What is the best screen protector to get (for the future)? Thank you very much.

Answer:ThinkPad T500 LCD Scratched

1. Warranty depot can do it, but it would cost around 500 to 700 USD. Or you can do it yourself, buying the part and replacing it. Aftermarket wise, which city are you living in?

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70068.html

2. Yes you can replace it with WXGA LED screen if you want, but there is more parts that need to be changed. The detail should be in the hardware manual that i linked.

3. Linked above.

4. Whether the scratch is repairable depends on how you scratched the LCD.

There are some tutorials on web, may give them a try first and see whether that works.

5. 3M makes some really good screen protector. Also, Lenovo sells some security screen protector, but that limits the screen viewing angle (hence the security part).

This has to be the worst laptop I have ever owned in my life!  In two years time, we have had to reinstall factory settings twice.  The laptop takes literally minutes to perform any function.  Now it has completely crashed by going into hybernate mode permanently.  Tech support could not resolve.  My son lost his College midterm which was to be submitted.  I advise everyone out there NOT TO EVER BUY A LENOVO THINKPAD T500.  I would have gotten more out of buring my $2500 at a camp fire for warmth.

Answer:T500 Thinkpad Lemon

If your hdd is not password protected, you can retrieve the documents from the hdd by putting the hdd into an external 2.5 sata hdd enclosure, and then connect it to another computer usb ports, this way you can browse the files (which may allow you to recover the lost file).

Dear community, would it be possible to use the HSPA+ capable UMTS module "0A36186"on a  ThinkPad T500 "2089-A35-GE"? The build in old module does unfortunately only support standard HSPA. Thanks a lot!

Hi Illuminatus78,

Unfortunately, it does not look to be compatible with the T500, both the site you linked to and the Lenovo page for the same product do not list the T500 as compatible (Here's the same accessory on the Lenovo site: ThinkPad Mobile Broadband Global - Overview )
I also checked the compatibility using a chart I have and it coincides with those two pages.

Hello! I have a ThinkPad T500 from 3 years at my office and i decided to buy it for me. These years it worked just with his Intel GMA 4500 MHD. At my home, i tryed to switch it to ATI Radeon 3650 and......there is the problem!!! First I installed the driver, at Device Manager says that the ATI video card works. Entering in Bios/ Config/ Display, i maked these settings  After Presing F10 , it restarts and.......nothing.... I plugged a VGA monitor and it looks: And.... And After this image it goes to this error!!!!!!!!  Where is the Problem?thI can switch again to the Intel GMA and it works perfect....I tryed to install an original ati driver and the switchable graphic from Lenovo and...same problem.I SHOULD MENTION THAT THE ATI DOESN;T WORK ON THE LAPTOP LCD....IT WORKS JUST ON VGA!!!!!!After all....In Devide Manager says that the device cannot start and finally.....In the Device Manager appears just the Intel Video Card. What can i do? I need some more performance in some games......This laptop was new.....and it never runs with the ATI video....this give me a hope that the ati is not Broken!!!!This Laptop runs just AutoCAD....about 3-4 hours per day.  Specifications: Intel Core 2 DUO T9600 @ 2.8 GhzRAM: 4Gb DDR3 1600 MhzHDD: 320 Gb

if you have a copy of the XP pro cd go into bios and set the boot order to have built in dvd drive as the first boot device, then the installation cd will take you into installation procedure, you are however not eligible to use the Lenovo OEM XP discs. Fill in the detail, most of the drivers should be available.  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?doctypeind=9&template=%2Fproductselection%2Fla...

Greetings!  I've been banging my head against this for awhile now.  My company had a customized T500 last year with a Lenovo wireless card in it, and now we've switched to an off-the-shelf model with the Intel card.  Suddenly, we cannot print consistently to Bluetooth printers. I say "consistently" because it *will* print, but only 1 job.  Then you have to power off/on the printer to print another job, rinse and repeat.  The only thing that seems to stand out as the culprit is when I go to Enable the Bluetooth Printer Service, it tells me "Unable to start the Bluetooth printer service.  Verify the local printer is physically connected to this computer by a USB or parellel cable, is set as the default print, and is turned on." This same printer (HP Officejet 470) will work just fine on our older T500's, along with other even older T42 models.  Also, the printer works great when on a USB cable -- it's just the Bluetooth that gives us problems.  All the other Bluetooth services appear to be enabled OK -- it's the Printer Service that has an error. One thing:  the Bluetooth printing works fine in the factory Windows Vista installation.  But we run a customized Windows XP sp2 load.  However, I've tried updating all the drivers I can think of and installing the full HP software suite, all to no avail.  And I evidently appear to be the only person this has ever happened to, because there is nothing via Google... Greetings, I have my system configured to use the Intel Integrated graphics (set to internal in the bios to save power) and I am experiencing the following graphical problems.  I am running the latest bios and display driver from Lenovo, as provided by ThinkVantage System Update.  Details of the drivers are in the directx diagnostics below.  I have tried to install the latest Intel graphics driver from Intel's website for this chipset, but it says that my system is not supported (possibly something to do with ATI's Hybrid Graphics). This does not occur in OpenSUSE 11.2 (even with the 3D Gnome desktop), but it does in Windows x64 with Aero.  It usually occurs after watching SlingBox or NetFlix Instant View, but it has occurred in the past without those activities.  It has not occurred when using the ATI graphics adapter (set to dedicated in the bios), at least from the limited amount that I have made use of it. Model:  20828zu DirectX Diagnostics (full system / driver specs):http://home.comcast.net/~quako33/MISC/DxDiag.txt Screenshots of the problem:http://home.comcast.net/~quako33/Images/gpu_problem1.pnghttp://home.comcast.net/~quako33/Images/gpu_problem3.png Any ideas on how to resolve this without having to switch over to the ATI graphics adapter will be appreciated. Finally... the bluetooth question... any keystroke to disable only the bluetooth?  When I hit fn+f5, it disables the wifi and the bluet... Answer:T500 Intel Graphics Anomalies with a side of BlueTooth

It's a bug in the drivers. If you have 2+1GB or 2+4GB of RAM memory this will occur. Did you try to disable Aero? It might help. From what I understand the only way to fix this issue is to buy another 2GB module (2+2GB), or wait until a new graphics driver is released. Regarding the Bluetooth;Make sure you have Lenovo Hotkey Installed (If you have ran Lenovo System Update you probably have this installed).Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\HOTKEY" and open "TpFnF5.exe" and hit the "Settings for Fn + F5" button. I must admit I didn't really get if you had the Fn + F5 issues in Windows or OpenSUSE, but the behavior for Fn + F5 under Ubuntu 9.10 is:WLAN/BT/OFF toggle (Fn+F5 press once: Wlan and BT off/Press second time: BT off, Wlan on/Third time: BT on, Wlan off/Press another time: BT and Wlan on)If that is of any help to you.

Hi everyone, I am a new T500 2081 user.  I did a Windows 7 pro x64 clean install and was able to install all the ThinkVantage software including the hotkey driver, so I can use Fn+F5 to activate the Bluetooth.  The problem is everytime I restart my T500 the Bluetooth is off by default.  I have to press Fn+F5 to activate it again and again.  I am getting a Thinkpad Bluetooth laser mouse and it will be a pain if I have to activate my mouse every time the computer is restarted. When I boot my computer in Ubuntu 9.10 on another partition of the hard drive the Bluetooth is always on, so I guess the issue in Windows 7 is a software setting one.  Any idea how to fix it?  Thank you!!!

Does anyone have the same problem? I found this description at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-57107#notturnon, answer to question #2: "Whenever you start the computer or resume operation after it has been in standby or hibernation mode, you must turn on the Bluetooth features." Does that mean you just always have to press Fn+F5 everytime?

I am not able to use my iPhone 3Gs as a tethered device for web access.  Spent 2 hours with AT&T and another 3 hours with Apple Genius Bar at both San Francisco and Holyoke Massachusetts stores with no success.  Has anyone been able to make the tethering connection work?  Is there a driver or "fix" that Lenovo has made to make the T500 laptop able to use the iPhone tether?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been around 8-9 months since Thinkpad new T series (T500/T400) was launched however 15.4 inch screen notebooks are still not available in India. What a shame! http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/inweb/LenovoPortal/en_IN/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=3634951826AE4D3881BFFF1AC5FCD957&current-category-id=41AB4B1B55F74FF8833753D7713BB6D6 I think Lenovo is not taking the Indian consumers seriously and as a result HP and DELL are getting stronger in Indian market. Time has come for Lenovo to wakeup and take serious interest as just like other we too love Thinkpads. - John Gupta

Hi ThereI recently bought T500 laptop and would like to install Windows 2008 on it so I can use Hyper-V on it. However, when I go to support page, i can not see windows 2008 as a listed OS from the drop down box. Can anyoe please help???

Answer:T500 Thinkpad with Windows 2008

welcome to the forum! windows server 2008 isn't officially supported by lenovo on thinkpads.   you'll need to use vista and/or XP drivers.   some drivers, however, either will not work or will need to come directly from the manufacturers.   there's a chance that you may have devices which you can't get working at all.   all you can do is try different drivers.   if you're still stuck then you'll have to search the forum or web for other
users who have installed 2008 on their systems and hopefully find the
answer you seek. good luck!

Hi, Just to preface this post:  I have scoured this forum and Google for a solution, but none of the proposed solutions seem to work. I have a ThinkPad T500 (2081, CTO) that I bought in 2009 that came with Windows Vista. In 2010 I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently, I reformatted and reinstalled everything. I can't adjust the screen brightness or switch between discrete and integrated graphics card. When I disable the discrete graphics card, the system reverts to the integrated one which allows me to adjust the screen brightness. The card is an ATI Mobility HD 3650 (256mb). I have:-Updated the BIOS-Most Recent Video Drivers-Lenovo Keyboard Drivers Basically, every update from Lenovo that I can have for my laptop I've installed. Hello, I've recently purchased a Lenovo T500 Thinkpad Notebook. And this might be a fairly easy problem to fix, but JUST to be safe. Whenever I use the Sound Recorder, after recording and I click the stop button, a window pops up saying the following: Not enough memory available to complete this operation.  Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again. If you recall I've stated that my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 is new, very new, no more than a few days new. I don't see any applications running. So what could be my problem?

The magnesium rollcage on the left side of the display has broke when I tried closing the laptop. The hinge got somehow stuck, and I coulnd't close the lid, so I tried to apply a tiny bit of force. Unfortunately, being a very fragile and soft material, magnesium (along with the plastic part that holds the bottom left screw) broke. I have managed to get the left hinge moving again, but now the display is being held by only right hinge, which isn't enough to support a 15 inch screen. Oh and closing it is a pain. Lenovo say that they can't fix it for some odd reason, even though it's still on the warranty. (probably because they can't understand what i'm trying to explain). Though I didn't open it yet, I can conclude from looking at it that I'm going to need a new rollcage, new outer LCD shell (that black top lid), and a new set of hinges. I can replace it myself, fully understanding it'd void my warranty, as long as I get my laptop working again. I need it for work. Where can I get a new rollcage, outer shell and a pair of hinges? Thank you. This is a Thinkpad T500-2082 which still has 243 days of warranty.

Hello, I have a serious problem with my new Thinkpad T500 NK145GE: If I view something with fast motion (e.g. a video clip from a concert, with spotlights etc.), I can see vertical break. Here is an example of it: Example This break is not static or in the middle of the TFT. There might be several of them at the same time. I can reproduce this problem on Windows Vista Business (with both graphic cards) as well on on Ubuntu Intrepid (for both graphic cards as well). I also tried diverse video programs - all have the same problem. I must admit that I am quiet unhappy about this problem. My old laptop (4 years) has no problems with its TFT (the same resolution and size) at all. Best regards

I recently got a new T500 Thinpad and it's great, mostly. I have some issues with its wireless networking and questions about display properties, but I can mostly live with it. Surprisingly, I even like Vista Ultimate (which I ordered to get the Win XP Recovery DVD option in the event I was unhappy with Vista). Now I'm starting to look at other options, such as 64-bit Vista. Here's my question. If you buy Vista Ultimate from MS, they give in the box both Vista 32-bit and Vista-64 bit.  Having bought Vista Ultimate 32-bit preloaded from Lenovo, do I have any options on acquiring Vista 64-bit? I can obviously not buy it from MS as an upgrade, since it would mean I'd have to purchase the entire Vista Ultimate package again and that's in the region of $250. I did look around on the Lenovo support site, but didn't find anything that seemed to addres this issue.Message Edited by mpbrede on 01-25-2009 11:39 AM

Answer:Vista 64-bit options on Thinkpad T500

If you are really keen upon upgrading I would suggest looking into aquiring an OEM disk. As far as I have seen these can be purchased at a much lower cost than the full Vista Ultimate package. (Typically around $180)  A second (possilble) option: I have heard that Microsoft offers a 64-bit "upgrade" disk for essentially the cost of shipping the disk. However, since you had Vista 32 installed OEM by lenovo I have my doubts that the upgrade would be accessible due to licensing restrictions. Third option (The one I used, similar to #1 yet possibly somewhat "illicit"): I managed to find a Vista Ultimate 64 OEM disk. I used the product key used by Lenovo to install Vista Ultimate 32 (find it on the bottom of your T500) for a full reinstall. Microsoft (here so far) has given me no difficulties.  I am sure you are already aware, but just in case you are not, to save you the shock: Upgrading from 32 to 64 entails a full reinstall of everything, drivers etc. The contents of your drive will be wiped during the install. Best of luck

I bought my thinkpad on September, it is a great machine. But after two weeks of use with care, the LCD was cracked on the left bottom Conner. On that day, I did some coding using the laptop in the morning, then I put it into my bag and carry it to my work. It's only about 10 minutes walk. After I arrived in the office, and I opened it up, the screen was broken. The damage really from nowhere, I didn't drop my bag, I didn't crash the laptop on anything. At the time I purchased this thinkpad laptop, I paid for the solid quality it guaranteed. The rollcage protection make me feel it will be the best machine I can rely on. With almost 2.5k nz dollar, I was only able to use it for two weeks....I sent it thru to the IBM/Lenovo repair center. The quote is unacceptable and doesn't make any sense, 2.2K to fix the LCD..I can simply get another one. One of my friends is a computer techo in the university, and he told me that is not usual, but they did have couple of thinkpad laptops with rollcage got cracked screen during the normal use. Did any thinkpad users on this forum experience the same issue? Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.

About a month ago I began seeing slightly obscured/pixlezation regardless of monitor (laptop display and 2 externals tested) or method of connection (VGA or digital cable).  I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  I notice it with text primarily... but it may just be me.   Oddly, when I open the Windows 7 Snipping Tool application, the issue goes away. I suspect its a driver issue with the ATI card.  I have seen video cards go bad in the past, and I doubt that is the situation here as the video issues are not as severe as I would normally see if a vid card went south. My T500 (2081 CTO) is up to date with all drivers provided by Lenovo System Update (v5) and Windows 7 updates from Microsoft. Please help!

Hi there, My personal laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad T500, and its main specifications as follows: - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2).- 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM).- ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB. I really need to upgrade the RAM in order to work with SharePoint 2010 and Windows Server 2008 R2. and, my major question is: * How many memory slots do I have in my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? I read on (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55644#t) that the maximum memory size for T500 is 8 GB. So, in case if my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 laptop has only two memory slots, then, I will have to buy 2 memory cards of ThinkPad 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 Low-Halogen SO-DIMM in order to get the 8 GB.... and I have to throw away my current memory cards... My another question is: * How easy is it to install/remove RAM in Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? Sorry for asking the second question, but I have never ever dealt with hardware before. I would greatly appreciate your inputs. Thanks for your consideration of my request, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon !

Answer:Some Issues with Upgrading RAM on Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ?

The T500 only has two RAM slots, so upgrading to 8GB would mean that your existing two 2GB modules would need to be removed. Replacing the RAM is simple; remove the four screws for the palmrest and the memory slots will be right under the palmrest.Refer to the HMM for more detailed instructions: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70068.html

The laptop is a Lenovo thinkpad T500 with a core2 duo T9600 2.8Ghz, 4GB ram, 160GB HDD ATI Radeon 3650 graphics and intel switchable graphics.

Did you do with on a fresh formatted harddrive or use the upgrade path? Have you tried installing it without connecting to the network? It may be looking for windows updates and getting stuck.

I am trying windows 10 TP on an old computer Lenovo thinkpad t500. It has dual graphics intel gma x4500 and ATI radeon HD 3650. I tried the dual graphics windows 7 driver which didn't give an error upon installation however the installation process didn't finish and the driver didn't install. I tried installing an AMD windows 8 driver for just the Radeon card but that did the same and didn't install.

The device manager defaults to the intel graphics which aren't supported and in the device manager the radeon graphics say device cannot start. This is the exact message

My brother has a ThinkPad T500 which has suddenly been afflicted by a reboot loop. He was watching a video on it, then he went to eat breakfast. When he returned to his laptop, it had restarted and was running some Startup Recovery process. After that finished, it just went on to continue the boot, loading up Windows. Unfortunately, 30 seconds to a minute after logging in, it restarts again, and it just keeps on going. Some times, it will reboot before it has even given a chance to log in. We even tried to restore the system to factory settings, according to the instructions, by pressing the ThinkPad blue button, but it turned out that option was not available. Can anyone help? Have some idea? We would be very grateful.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T500 on reboot loop

Do you have a Windows 7 disk? You could reinstall off of that.It is nice he got to keep the notebook though :).You've been helped by a 14 year old.

Dear, Could you please help me with a problem. My ethernet port on the Thinkpad T500 is broken. When I dock my laptop the ethernet port of the Thinkpad doesn't work. Is there an option that when I docked my laptop on the Thinkpad, that I can use the ethernet port of my laptop instead of the port of the Thinkpad? On this moment, when i dock my laptop, the ethernet port of the laptop doesn't work anymore. Is there an option to do that? I hope someone can help me. Thanks a lot so far!

Answer:Ethernet port on the Thinkpad T500 is broken

Hi rickerich, welcome to the forum,

I'm not sure that your ethernet port is broken, when docked the ethernet port on your T500 will be disabled allowing only use of the ethernet port on the docking station.  The same applies for the VGA port.

Sorry it may not be what you wanted to hear, but the behaviour is normal.

Regards

Dear All, Wonder if anybody can provide any advise on the following issue(s): Just bought a T500 Centrino vpro, running on XP professional, 15" screen. Really happy with it, its fast and all. However, there seem to be only a few screen resolution options available. On my old Acer Travelmate, I used to have a 1024x600 which suited my myopia just fine. The closest setting to this one seems to be the 1024X768 but it is not great 'cos items appear a tad out of focus. I understand the T500 i just bought was built to accommodate Vista (as a side note, a Vista Business tag with serial number can be found at the back of my laptop although the machine came with XP pro preinstalled..This leads me to my other question: What happened to my Vista?) and this perhaps explains the limited resolution options available and the fact that apart from the native setting all other resolutions available are not optimal. Many thanks in advance. FB

Answer:ThinkPad T500 Screen Resolution Issues

T500 use a wide screen, so the resolution depends on the choice of screen, there are WXGA (1280 x 800), WXGA + (1440 x 900), WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050).  The wxga resolution is the one that best serve your needs in terms of minimal eye strain.
