I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T400 WiFi Link 5100 Incorrect Driver Update Retriever

I'm not sure what you are asking for as 7yc10ww is not a valid driver file name (they all have 8 characters in the name). However, the current Intel 5100 driver for Vista can be downloaded from here..... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70505 or for XP its here.... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504 Cheers, Bill

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I have tried updating the driver several times.  I am at the most recent version of the driver, 13.3.0.24, and it is still not present as an option.  All I see is EAP-MSCHAPv2 and SmartCard or other certficate.  I do not have any of the Intel ProSet or ThinkAdvantage apps to manage wireless.  I tried to get rid of the vendor cruft.  Was that a mistake?

Answer:Thinkpad T400, Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN Adapter, and Cisco PEAP

Yes, Alharaka. It appears you've uninstalled the Intel ProSet wifi software that enables the wifi card

Dear Sir or Madam, I have a Lenovo 4446-25U G530 running XP Pro and equipped with WiFi Link 5100 AGN with driver 12.2.0.11 11-17-2008.  When I attempt to update my system using the Lenovo Care, I get a message to update my WiFi driver to 12.0.0.73.  During installation I get an error message:  c:\PROGRA~1\Lenovo\SYSTEM~1\session\52wi07ww\Vista\Docs\Icons\Thumbs.db  Access is denied.  At this point installation is halted at 80%.  When I click OK on the "Access is denied" window, the installation continues until I get a messge from System Update stating "1 Package was successfully downloaded and installed"  When I view installation history, the updated driver (12.0.0.73) is listed as having been installed, however when I check for system updates using Lenovo Care, it continues to show the WiFi Link 5100 driver as a pending update.  Apparently the installation is not sucessful. Is this a Vista only update that I should ignore? Regards,  Lou

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

Hello. We are receiving T400 laptops.  These laptops do not hold a wireless connection for any length of time.  They also have a hard time connecting at boot up.  Item that have been tried...01) Removed and re-installed Drivers.02) Removed and reinstalled Access Connections. (Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. Bob...

Have you installed the latest drivers from Intel? The drivers provided by Lenovo, in most cases, may not be the latest ones.

Maybe this problem is not the Mobile Intel 4 family express chipset but thw wireless card? I just received an R400 with the above intel media graphics accelarator. Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Bump, srry i need help, here are the settings.

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

Hello!

I recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop (18.4" monitor). I am having difficulty connecting to the internet with this computer, and perhaps someone here can help me out. Here is some information:

Network Adapter: WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Router: Verizon Wireless (Model Name: MI424-WR)

Wireless network connections are detected, and the connection is "strong". However, when I try to connect, it always fails. When I go to the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" I see "Media Disconnected". I know there is a wireless button on the Acer's, but this is automatically turned on during startup, so I know this is not the problem. For some reason, my router is just not connecting to my network adapter, and I am unsure how to resolve this problem. Thanks for any insight of this issue!

Maybe perhaps my wireless router is just not compatible with a Windows 7 64-bit system...

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.
When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.
Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.
Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

I have problems getting online using my T00 after installing windows 7. The rest of the computers in my network will be affected if my T400 is online. I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. I really need to update the driver as I need to access my wireless network desperately and my T400 cannot allow me to do that. Any ideas?

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

We use a lot of M91P systems (4480). We use a hardware independent image for all kinds of notebooks and workstations. After deployment Thininstaller will run automatically and installs the drivers from the repository. Everything works fine but for these systems I always have to install the video driver (b2vdo24us14) manually. Thinkvantage Update Retriever says "No new updates were found for the systems you specified." The video driver does not exist in the repository, also no updates are hidden. Why doesn't this work?

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in...  Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

Hello out there,
this is a german calling...
I need an update for the graphic driver of a laptop toshiba satellite 5100-503, the nvidia geforce4 440 Go, which you cannot get on the nvidia site, where are no mobile systems to get.
My Laptop is quite slow. I just want to accelerate its performance.
Thanks outthere

Answer:Driver update for Satellite 5100-503 with NVIDIA geforce4 440 Go

This old notebook model is definitely not supported anymore and on Toshiba support page you cannot find any update. What you can do is to search around to find notebook with the same graphic card but maybe with newer driver and try to install it.

Can you please tell us why you need more graphic performance? For gaming?

First post.  I have a T400 and upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64.  Everything worked great.  I tried to load the new WiFi 5300 drivers (ver 13) and my T400 cannot shutdown.  It reboots and says that a serious driver problem occured.  The machine cannot be shutdown without a hard shutdown.  I have tried loading the driver using System Update, the Lenovo website and the Intel website all with the same result.  If I uninstall the update everything works fine.  I'm hoping to get better wifi performance especially N band with the new driver.  Has anyone gotten the new WiFi 5300 Drivers loaded on a T400 with Windows 7 64?  What other Thinkvantage apps do you have running?

Hi, I am cleaning and re-installing Windows XP on several laptops.I have an issue with 2 T400 laptops when trying to re-install WiFi driver. First, I used the same procedure on several Lenovo laptops (T61, T61p) and I didn't encounter any issue. The drivers I have downloaded are from Lenovo Website, using the full product identification. Before cleaning and re-installation, WiFi was working well. Here is how I proceed:- install Windows XP Pro SP2- install SP3- install Ethernet driver- install WiFi driver and there comes the issue. The installation goes OK but the WiFi connection is not present in the Network Connections window. The little light with the WiFi symbol is not light up. The manual switch on the front of the laptop is on (and the Bluetooth light is on).I tried Fn-F5 but no change.I tried to install Power Management, then WiFi driver, still not working.I tried the pruduct detection but it gave me the same driver. The file I downloaded is 7ywc54ww.exe. Do you have an idea on how I could do to solve that? Thank you.

Do the WLAN cards show up in Device Manager? Did you install the right driver? T400 came with Intel WLAN or ThinkPad WLAN card. Also are you 100% sure they are working? Try a Linux live disc and see if it connects in Linux.

I've just updated my T400 using the ThinkVantage utilities. After update my WiFi adapter is no longer available. Manual install of the Intel WiFi driver tells med that the install source C:\WINDOWS\Installer\_{852AFD2D-07CC-46FD-A159-671102782771}\ isn't available and wants me to browse to a valid source. In the Installer directory I find a subdirectory called C:\WINDOWS\Installer\_{F22FD942-651D-4EE8-BD6F-7E0AF5E17625}\ and it contains a package called "Intel PROSet Wireless.msi", but Setup claims that this is no longer a valid install package. So what to do? And yes, I tried to do a system restore, but restore didn't succeed. Running XP Pro SP3 32-bit, btw. /Lars.

Probably completely unrelated but maybe not... I just put a test install of Win 7 Pro 64 on my T400 w/Intel 5100.  It was running Vista Biz 64 and working fine with my Linksys N router.  With '7 it wouldn't see the router most of the time, would occasionally see it and associate sometimes, and always drop in a few seconds. The "fix" was to enable QoS in the router.  Absolutely no idea why. Z.

I know others have posted about issues with their wireless using the T400 and Intel 5300 card. I have similar problems with the 5100. It frequently drops and when it happens it is impossible to open up the connection manager to check on it. It seems restarting is the only way to get it to come back online. It definitely isn't an issue with my internect connection as my roommates works consistently even as mine is struggling. It seems to be particularly likely to drop when I'm using Skype or streaming video from Hulu. I uninstalled Access Connections and have been using the regular Vista connections manager which is just fine for my purposes. Any thoughts? This seems like a pervasive enough problem that Lenovo would offer some kind of response. Has anyone heard anything from Lenovo about what this might be or how it might be permanently fixed? At this point I'm pretty disappointed that a brand new laptop wouldn't be functional right out of the box, especially since having a laptop with a functional wireless card was one of the main things I was looking forward to. If I can't get this fixed to my satisfaction I'll probably just have to head back to Dell which is too bad because other than this I love the T400.

Answer:T400 Wireles Issues with the 5100

i've read a lot on this problems too. I was thinking about getting a t500  but now I don't think I will because what is the point of getting a laptop if you can't access the internet . I seems like lenovo is not doing anything to fix the problems because  people are still posing the same type of questions for the last several of months and none of them have been solved.   All they tell you is download this and that but it does not seem to fixed anything but make it worst. Even though I was planning in getting one and so was my bf, we're both looking for new laptops, I would advise you to return it because it does not seem like anyone from lenovo knows what the problems are or even care to fix it.  With that said, I hope they know they have lost a customers and pissed off a lot of current customers.

laptop is aspire 4920g with 1024x768 screen resolution

having ati2dvag blue screen problems so decided to update drivers (another problem but not for this thread)

but after i updated my drivers (uninstalled + used drive sweeper) to the new one i downloaded from the website of my laptop (so i'm assuming IT IS for my laptop) the default resolution is 1280x800 (looks good tho) and the system tray icons are all blurry. and when i change the resolution to 1024x768 , it is all blurry unlike before my driver update where this resolution looks as clear as rhe 1280x800.

anyway, you might ask why not live with the 1280x800 since it is only for your desktop and not for your games?? well it isn't. the default resolution of the only game i play (nba 2k11) followed the 1280x800 resolution and thus resulting to ~10 fps decrease. and when i change the reso of the game to 1024x768, it also goes blurry like the desktop. please help.

driver i use for my hd 2400 xt is version 8.4 without catalyst because i use ati tray tools.

Answer:incorrect resolution after driver update [ati hd 2400 xt]

Greetings, simonsky96.

Quick try: are there any options for changing the monitor's refresh rate for either of the resolutions? There may not be, but if so, try changing the rate, see if you symptoms change.

You might also consider rolling back to an earlier driver version for troubleshooting purposes.

Our T530 laptops will see the update packages without issue, but the t540p's will only see one driver (Intel Rapid Storage Driver AHCI), So i know that everything is pointing to the right places.I have also installed the drivers manually from the lenovo website to see if there was some kind of compatibility thing going on but they install fine and devices function without issue. I currently have the repository on a share \\servername\lenovo\updateretriever\repository to which the thinInstaller is pointed at. All updates that are in the repository for the t540 are set to active. The machines themselves have x64 versions of win7 installed on them and have obviously checked that the drivers are all x64. I have also checked things like the PnPID that is in the driver XML and matched it to the hardwareID for the device on the laptop and most of them match (tried adding all entries for the device in the PnPID field in the XML but no difference). It just always gives me the error "No Packages applicable to your system were found" Just as a note, at the point of running thininstaller, the laptops have a win7 x64 vanilla install on them. Could there possibly be some prerequisite that needs to be installed like .net? I have had a nightmare trying to get this to work and i know its probably somet... Read more

Answer:"No packages" T540p and Update retriever / Thininstaller

I have just fixed my own issue, so for everyone who comes across this post, i was currently using thininstaller version 1.2.0006, after updating the installer to 1.2.0010 it found all the updates in the repository. Such a silly thing to miss but was overlooked. Still confused as to why it picked up that one update in the first place. But issue is now resolved nevertheless. Thanks

Running XP I was running Audio Driver 4.92.2.0(Vista) / 3.64.2.50(XP) 2009/04/13 which came in through System Update before it shut down. I installed 4.92.5.0(Vista) / 3.64.6.0(XP)  2009/05/29   Because I wanted these fixes. - Fixed an issue where the built-in microphone never be off when an externalmicrophone was connected. This might cause reverberation. - Fixed an issue where microphone volume level was too low. Now Smart Audio in the Control Panel won't initialize. It just errors out.  I've tried reinstalling. At this point of course I would prefer to go back to the working dirvers, but they came through System Update and I can't figure out if they're stashed on the HD or not.  Does anyone have a link to the Driver Archives so I can download the older one? Thanks in Advance

Answer:Smart Audio broke with Driver Update - Need link to previous driver

Well I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling, and the download doesn't seem to be complete because it's now saying a required file isn't found. Anyone have a link to the full Smart Audio app? Thanks

Hi,  I just bought a T400 last month and installed Ubuntu Linux 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) last week. The kernel version is 2.6.27 (right now it is 2.6.27-11.27). Most parts works wonderfully for me, yet I keep getting problems with the wireless card. Last week and this week I got the computer crashing on me when I was doing wireless-related stuff (mainly to bring up the wireless interface). First problem (Feb 5, 2009)  I was waking the computer up from sleep (suspend) and trying to disable/enable wireless, etc.Don't remember what I did; perhaps Fn+F5 and other keys as well. The computer suddenly hung by itself, and caps lock light blinking. I had to turn off the computer by holding the power switch. After start, the wireless behaving strangely:* before "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is off* after "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is on* after "ifconfig wlan0 down", the wireless light is off -- never like this before! Wireless light is usually always on all the time unless we press the Fn+F5 key.* connection to my wireless ESSID network is not working.* But in Vista the wireless connection is fine!* reboot with Linux doesn't help.I thought I was doomed for the wireless in linux. But when I used the hardware switch to turn off the wireless and turned it on again, the wireless suddenty worked again! But the wireless light behavior (turning off when I brought down the network interface) persists.  The second error (Feb 9, 2009)  I ... Read more

Answer:T400 with Intel 5100 : wireless-related crashes on Linux

Hi. I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Linux Mint 6 (64 bit) on my T400, which is a distribution based on Ubuntu 8.10. Everything works great apart from the system occationally freezing and caps lock light blinking.  Has only happened while I have been connected to wireless networks, so the problem may be wireless related, but I'm not sure. Just like you, I have found no traces of the error in logs.

I purchased my T500 within the first week Lenovo had it available for US consumers to order.  I was assured the machine was going to come with a WiMax card.  I gave it to my daughter to use.  We never tested WiMax since we did not have WiMax in our city until October of last year.  Came to find out, our machine did not come with a WiMax card as was promissed.  It has in it the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN card instead.  Needless to say, I no longer feel comfortable ordering from Lenovo anymore.  We got seven laptops in the house.  Five of which are ThinkPads.  However, we've moved over to Samsung after this unpleasant experience. Today I wanted to see if there's an updated version of the driver I'm running for my WiFi card, to my unpleasant surprise, the driver for the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN card in my T500 does not exist anywhere at www.lenovo.com.  I only see drivers for the Intel 5150 and the Intel 5350 cards. Does anybody out there have any idea where I can find the latest driver for the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN in my duped T500 laptop?  Thank you in advance for your help.

Dear all, I had installed "Update Retriever 4.2" by mistake, and then uninstalled this application. I wondered if anyone could tell me if this file is to do with "Update Retriever" it is found in; Program Files/Common Files/Lenovo/And is not in the (x86) Folder, the file is called "tvtfilesig64.dll"So, i was basically wondering if this file is safe to remove? Also, I had a problem with the System Update program used for the Lenovo products after my son deleted some files (needless to say that there are other applications misbehaving). I had reinstalled the application after, downloading the .exe from the lenovo website, and now it keeps hanging and doesn't respond, and thus Windows Error Reporting occurs. If anyone knows any solutions or has experienced this, I would like to hear about it.I hope everything makes sense and someone can resolve my issues. Thanks in advance, Rob

Hi,today I wanted to update the graphics driver of my T400 with Radeon 3400 under Win XP pro.During installation I got an error message:In english: the file.......or a dependency to it wasn't found. The system can't find the indicated file. The driver was properly installed anyway (Version 8.712.0.0)The only problem is, CCC doesn't start anymore. The same cryptic error message like above appears.Repeated installation and reboot doesn't change the situation. Then I updated the bios to the latest version, tried to uninstall CCC (same error message) and reinstall, but the catalyst install-manager didn't offer CCC, though I downloaded the explicit CCC-package. Any ideas? Greetings from hot Northern Bavaria - Ron edit:problem was solved after complete uninstalling of all ATI software und reinstalling the new driver. All works fine (apart from some missing and some mixed-up icons...)

Two day ago I used ThinkVantage SYstem Update and installed Intel Wifi link driver (ver 13.01.1000). But since then my computer was randomly cut off internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer. I thought it might be the router that malfunctioned as this problem never happened before. But after I checked the router and used another notebook to test wireless connection, I was sure the router ran very well. Then I re-installed the TVT Access Connection (ver 5.61) and the Intel WIFI Link Driver (ver 13.01.1000) but the problem remained. Could anybody give a possible solution?  I also noticed on Lenovo's website, the Intel wireless card driver for T61 is v13.00.0000 Windows Vista 23 Oct 2009. It's lower than what I have now. Could that be the cause? My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:Model: T61 8897CTOOS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bitLanguage: ENWireless Card: Intel 3945 ABGWireless Card Driver: 13.1.1.1 (previous one was 13.0.0.0)TVT Access Connection: 5.61

Answer:New Intel WIFI Link Driver Randomly cut off Internet Connection

Hi carlven,Anytime when wireless driver is updated, Access Connections also needs to be reistalled.Do this, first uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again. When installing any lenovo driver manually, keep in mind they first extract themselves to a default location in C:\Drivers..., second .exe setup must be run from that location to successfully install the drivers.Hope it helps.

I obtained my T400 in November, and notice that the driver for my Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless adapter is version 12.1.0.14 from 8/28/08. On the Intel Web site, I've noticed that the driver was upgraded to 12.1.2.1 on 11/24/08: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=3062&DwnldID=17163&strOSs=... Are we permitted to install the latest driver (including the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility for Windows Vista, or does this interfere with ThinkVantage Wireless Detection, etc.), or do we have to wait to see if Lenovo certifies this version? Thanks in advance,Mike

Sorry for these issues, the updates team is still working on getting all the updates published for the new systems like X230...

Bluetooth should be there starting from today.

I recommend not installing RapidBoot Shield unless you have personally tested it and determined that it makes your image boot faster and doesn't cause side-effects.

Intel USB 3.0 has a wrong dependency on RapidBoot Shield, the team is working on removing the dependency.  If you are using ThinInstaller you may be able to figure out how to remove the dependency from the XML file yourself...

did you download the Lenovo driver, or did you down load the driver from Intel? Lenovo writes alot of their own drivers for things like wifi cards, its possible that by downloading Intel's driver, it isn't compatable with thinkpads.

Hi,I received my T400 yesterday. I had ordered it with the 80gb Intel SSD option (was hoping that was the X-25M). The SSD that was in my laptop however, is not the Intel one. It is the Samsung 128gb MMCQE28G8MUP. I just now see that this option is available on Lenovo's site, and the Intel SSD is no longer available. I did a quick benchmark with HD Tune, and I get a low of 38MB/s and a high of 144MB/s. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten this drive or has the Intel SSD and can compare. If they are not able to provide the Intel SSD that I ordered, I may want to return this.

Answer:Incorrect SSD for T400?

welcome to the forum! it's possible that the drive was substituted due to low stock.   in an event like this, an equal or better part will be sent.   in your case you ended up with considerably more storage for the same price.   does your original order confirmation show the intel 80GB SSD? with that said, i don't know how the samsung drives compare to the intel X-25M series.   the free version of HDTune isn't the best tool to use since you can't test many of the variables that tell you how a drive performs overall such as large and small reads and writes.   ATTO disk benchmark is much better for this but you'd need to find 80GB X-25M results to make a 1:1 comparison. synthetic benchmarks aside, how does the drive seem in real-world use?   are you happy with its performance?

I have a laptop with an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN nic

1) Shows up in Device manager as healthy
2) Has latest driver as per manufacturer (hp elitebook 6930p) running win2008R2 server.
3) keyboard wifi indicator lites up
4) Device shows up as active in networking devices

however, I cannot see any wireless ssid's to associate with.
I checked mfg web site for latest drivers and the intel web set for the adapter itself. After many downloads of win8 and win7 driver bundles (no support for win2008r2 apparently) I have not found a solution yielding a fix. I did stumble across a Intel proset/Wireless wifi software utility manual diagnostic tool v15.6.0.0. When it runs, i get:

"Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver"

To be exact:
#Event,Source,Time,Error Severity,Domain,User,Description
1,Manual Diagnostic,04/12/2013 15:57:12,Warning,Unknown,Administrator,Hardware Test
- Result : Failed, Summary : Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver

With the same tool i can run it manually on just selecetd tests (hardware, driver, radio, scan, associate, auth, signal, ping)
All of them fail (as expected except the driver test:

To be exact:
#Event,Source,Time,Error Severity,Domain,User,Description
1,Manual Diagnostic,04/12/2013 16:00:07,Warning,Unknown,Administrator,Driver Test
- Result : Passed, Summary : Driver is loaded. NETwNs64 Version :14.3.2.1

The driver test passes, just not the link to the transport apparently. Not sure how to fix this.

I have a T400 type 6475 - P9U running windows Ultimate.  This morning I noticed I had a message in the Thinkvantage Toolbox.  The system had run a scan and determined that there were updates needed.  Unfortunately I downloaded the two critical updates.  One of them related the the video drivers.  The installation hung with an error about ATI drivers not being present.  I powered off and rebooted.  Now the drivers are corrupted, can't access my second monitor, and the best resolution is 800 x 600.  I tried to re-run the update and I get an access denied error, even if it is run as administrator.  Lenovo support is no help, the warranty expired last November. Any suggestions appreciated.  I can download the ATI Catalyst Suite from Cnet, but I thought I would check in here first. Thanks,Brian

Hi good people,

So, I'm on here like thousands of others with intermittent wifi issues. I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 yesterday and everything works very well except for losing my wifi connection every 30 minutes to an hour.

My wireless adapter is a Broadcom 802.11n
the driver I'm using is Broadcom version 6.30.223.256

I've updated the drivers and the same loss of wifi happens. I've rolled back the drivers and the same loss of wifi happens. I've even tried a driver directly from the lenovo site that is a Cybertan Liteon driver that is the latest version for windows 8.1.

I've also unchecked the box in the power management page. Then rebooted.

I've also used all the commands, in the command prompt admin that start with 'netsh'. Then rebooted. The same thing still happens.

So, I'm up for new suggestions including compatible drivers from different manufacturers.

I'm really hoping there's a Z585 user on here that has solved this issue. According to the Lenovo web site this particular laptop has the latest drivers on the site and none of them are working so far.

Answer:Lenovo Z585 losing wifi after driver update, driver rollbacks, 'fixes'

First, is your laptop supported for windows 10 on lenovo website.....meaning are there drivers and software packages for it? Have you tried downloading the 8.1 driver for it and then running it in compatibility mode?

Hello. For the past 30 minutes,I have been trying to get an update installed from D-link concerning my router DSL-2740R. I have downloaded their zip file but cannot do anything with it as I get a message as follows:-"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the Set Associations Control Panel".I don't have anything with this wording in my Control Panel. My computer is a Dell Studio 540 operating Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have not updated their drivers for the past 10 months.I was hoping this would be a quick simple exercise, but it seems I need a degree in computer science to get this to work! Only D-link could make a mountain out of mole hill!Any help suggestions and advice would be warmly welcomed before the router ends up under a bus!Thank you in advance for your help.Big L 266

My equipment:    ThinkPad T400, Model 7417CTO, 3GB Ram    OS: Win 7, Ultimate    Docking Station: Model 2504 (manufacture Date 06/07)    My problem:        I have had several instances in the past week, (since 8/20/2010) where my Mouse Wheel and Left Mouse Key quit working.    Other symptoms include Left Mouse Key either stops working or acts erractic, such as spawning another instance of FireFox when clicked in a FireFox window.    The Power/Sleep-Key button on the Docking station no longer works to go into the Sleep mode.    I can now only put it in the Sleep mode, when the T400 is in the Dock, by using the Win 7 Menu selection for Sleep.    The button on the Docking station still works to Start up and to bring the T400 out of Sleep.    All these problems occur while the T400 is in the Dock Station.    I can only get these symptoms to stop by Restarting the T400.    Recent Changes:    On 8/20/2010 I updated several drivers, including the new BIOS dated 9 Aug 2010, Ver 3.19/3.17.    I updated the Hotkey driver V 3.10.000, as demanded by the update for the UltraNav driver.    I updated the UltraNav driver, V 15.0.24.0, dated 15 Jul 2010.    Can I go back to the previous UltraNav driver?    Any suggestions of Ho... I have a T410 2522-AN4 running XP/Pro.I installed a number of updates on 10/29 which seem to have exposed me to a 'Windows Delayed Write Failed'error. I've rolled back 5 of the driver updates. I've turned off Write Caching. I've increased SystemPages to 24FFF.I've run all the diagnostics I can find. No luck. Now I'd like to rollback/uninstall/? some of these other updates thatwent in on 10/29. Two that I'm suspicious of are ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility US and Intel Wireless WiFi Link for Windows XP. Where would I go to find a way to rollback those two items? Thanks for any help!

Answer:How to rollback ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility US and Intel Wireless WiFi Link for Windows XP?

Previous BIOS versions should be found on the T410 driver matrix if you scroll down on the BIOS page. You'll have to pick the version that corresponds to whichever version you had previously.Which hard disk (I think it's a \Device\HardDisk\Volume notation) the Delayed Write Failed error highlight?Maybe turn on Windows cache flushing on the drive in Device Manager?

Hi, I just upgraded to latest ATI driver from Lenovo.com 8.752-100629a-102476C
Ever since, Google Chrome 5.0.375.126 sometimes display scrollbar without the black arrow, empty tick boxes, missing tick boxes.
The same Google Chrome release was just fine last week with previous ATI driver (which of course I didn't note the exact version...)

Anyone else seen this ?

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

EDIT: Specs
ASUS G51Vx
Vista HP 64bit
4GB RAM

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.
