Preferred Solution: Thinkvantage system update kills Fingerprint device [Fingerprint Software 2.0 for Windows V64]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I posted this late last year & got no replies. It is quite irritating because it causes the boot-up to be prolonged whilst the system tells me that the (non-existent) fingerprint device cannot be accessed. I bought a Lenovo M58p Tower system (type: 9965-A3G) which comes as standard with a simple keyboard without a fingerprint scanner device. I downgraded from the supplied Vista to XP Pro using the supplied downgrade discs. In the control panel I have a 'Fingerprint Sensor' icon which of course does nothing when clicked on apart from produce an error message: 'Fingerprint sensor device communication error' for fairly obvious reasons (there is no sensor). Also on boot-up/shutdown the system complains that it cannot access the fingerprint device. Has anyone any idea why the software is installed for the fingerprint device when it doesn't exist on this model & is it safe to simply uninstall the fingerprint software using the XP control panel 'Add or Remove' facility? Does anything else need changing software or BIOS wise? Cheers

Answer:Can I remove Fingerprint software on non-fingerprint device tower PC?

Yes you can remove it, the system must have been prepared for a machine that was originally suppose to ship with a keyboard that has the FPR installed.

Answer:X301 - ThinkVantage Fingerprint SW unable to find Fingerprint Sensor

Go to device manager to check if the driver version is 11/xx/2008, if so, unintall it, and then reinstall the fingerprint software from Lenovo.  It will install the driver with version dated 10/xx/2008.  This solved the problem for me.

Lenovo Thinkpad SL500, Model 27466FGOS: Windows XP Home SP3Fingerprint Software 5.8.4 Build 5476 Hi @allFirst of all I beg for excusing my bad english, I'm German.Second, may be the description of the fingerprint-software dialogs and functions may be different for the German GUI.Problem: on my machine there are 2 accounts, administrator and limited user. The windows logon in the administrator works fine by the fingerprint-software. But since some days the logon in the user account fails. The password changes for example from "12345" in "345c35-123b56-...." (FYI this are just examples, not real passwords). What I did to solve the problem:I deleted the user and add the user new, reboot the machine, logon works as desired. But the very next day the same failure appears again, password changed and I cannot login by fingerprint and had to enter the password by keyboard. When I try to configure the fingerprint again by edit "user" I had to enter my password. My password and also my fingerprint works correct. When I click the button "show password" the dialogbox shows a different password of numbers and lower case characters, separated by "-" like "123c45-678b90-..."Does anybody knows a solution for this problem?TIA

Answer:SL500 Windows-logon failed by using ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software

Hi, I'm a little bit disapointed because there was no feedback to my problem. I found solution by myself. I thought that my problem issues from the Fingerprint Software. But then I had a look at the Client Security Software and found some misconfiguration. Maybe this comes from updates of the software, because I cannot remember that I touched this software since I've got my SL500 new and configured everything. Solution:Client Security Solution > Policy Manager > Windows Logon was inactivated. I configured and activate Standardpolicy.

I purchased a new L540 running Windows 7 and enrolled a finger.  I can use the fingerprint to unlock but not to login.  I've reviewed forum postings that suggest that I need to Change Biometric Settings, however the are set as "Biometrics On, Allow Users to log on to Windows using their Fingerprints."  I note that the fingerprint software on the L540 is different than my 2 yr old W520, which had a way different interface.  Any ideas?

Answer:ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software Vulnerability

Ok, it reads as a Windows problem and Microsoft will likely have to patch that vulnerabiliy. Why a program would store that type of data in the registry which is not protected is difficult to understand. I am pretty sure patches for this will be coming out soon enough but good to know.

I have reinstalled Windows XP multiple times over the past 4 years on this laptop, but this issure still hits me. I have never been able to find out why it does this. What is "this"? Glad you asked, because I might have gone on for pages. Basically, the "Fingerprints" and "Settings" menu choices are innaccessible. They always have, even on the pre-installed XP when I recieved this laptop for the 1st time. I only want easy accessibility to the Fingerprint functions. I have Client Security Solution installed and updated, because I couldn't do worth junk in the Fingerprint Software. After I set up the security, enrolled my fingerprints, and setup my power-on bios password, I went into the bios to reset the TPM. When I did that, I also wanted to change my power-on and supervisor password. With that done, I booted the system. The fingerprint software asked for my fingerprint before boot, and it successfully registered...but the password it tried to enter failed. Of course, I figured this would happen, but when I tried to find a way to change the power-on password saved in Client Security Solution, everything pointed to access that setting from the Fingerprint Software. I honestly need help, as it is aggravating to enter Supervisor and Harddisk passwords at every boot. As a recap, the menu choices don't even highlight as I hover over them. I click on them, and they don't respond with anything. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad X220, Win7 64. My fingerprint scanner works fine in predesktop verification, but the last three days I get an error when it is supposed to log unto Win7. The error says 0xe7210005 INternal Error (rpnp2: no-svr(00000001provmgrserver)). I have to enter the password to log on. I have reinstalled the fingerprint software - no change. As the predesktop scan works, I gather that the HW and the fingerprint database are ok. While I was handling this I tried to run a system update. Here the Think Vantage System Update software starts up and then stalls. I have this with the last version (5.0.3) that I downloaded as well as with a version 4 that came with the machine. Has anybody got an idea (beside reinstalling the OS)? Many thanks Rolf

Hi all, I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. Hi,Equipment:Lenovo R61i Win XP (Polish ver)  On turning on the computer  I get a window titled "fingerprint logon" asking me to create a logon password. When I cancel this I get another window (different style) asking me to register fingerprints for the fingerprint security. Both these windows are in English so I presume they come via the Lenovo Thinkvantage application (which is in English) rather than directly from Windows as anything from windows is in Polish. My question is how do I get rid of these two windows as I do not wish to set a password or register fingerprints at the moment. I have gone into the Fingerprint Control Center and disabled fingerprint logon in favour of Normal Windows Logon, but without effect. Its not a critical thing, just a nuisance that slows down the boot up. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Loz

Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

Hi, I'm having issues getting the configuration to work. The X220t internal fingerprint reader works fine. I got single-sign-on working from boot right into my Windows 8 domain account. However, the external reader from the USB Lenovo Preferred Pro Fingerprint Keyboard (conntect via USB on Ultra-Dock) does not work at all. It's recognized fine and shows up in Windows Device Manager without any issues. It does use the same driver as the internal one. Not sure if that is intentional or not. Might be the same hardware. But the Windows Biometrics Settings show that device an "Unavailable". I already resetted the fingerprint data (in BIOS and Windows 8). Note, the external reader worked fine in Windows 7. It stopped working during boot quite a while ago, though. Thus, there might be a BIOS issue as well. The BIOS is set to "external -> internal". Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

the first thread I started about this issue is closed so I have to make a new one...

As mentioned here

http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=25776&tstart=15

the Fingerprint Software doesn't work anymore with Firefox after updating the browser. Only by doing the workaround from the thread mentioned above this can be fixed. After the next update you have to that all again...deinstalling, reinstalling...means a lot of time.

Is there no real solution for this? For Firefox Users the fingerprint software is useless unless they do all the de- and reinstalling on every update.

Answer:Fingerprint Software does not work with Firefox after an update

There is no solution like ?Fingerprint Utility update? or something like that!!
The solution is that you have to remove and to reinstall the Firefox again to get it working with the Fingerprint utility!!!

The Firefox update damages the Fingerprint registration in the FF and therefore the new reinstallation is necessary!
If you want to know how this will be fixed in the FireFox browser please contact the Mozilla support or the developer!!

Answer:Satellite P300: Fingerprint software want update driver while every boot

Hello Damo

Maybe my comment will be not so nice but if you have done Microsoft updates and now the problem is there why you ask for help on Toshiba forum. Before I do Microsoft updates I check the list of available updates every time. There you can see Type of update. It can be recommended, important or NOT important.

For me it is OK to install some KBxxx patches but WHY to install update for preinstalled software?
It is logic that something can go wrong. Notebook manufacturer has nothing to do with it and if you have problem you have two possibilities: either you will use ?clean? notebook again with tested preinstalled software or send the claim to the Microsoft.

Hello all, I have an X61s with model number 7668-CTO running Windows Vista Ultimate.  A few months ago lightning fried my network adapter and I took my computer in to have it serviced with a Lenovo tech.  The tech replaced the system board and I have not had any further problems with the network adapter.  I have, however, had continued problems with my fingerprint reader and System Update. I tried reinstalling the operating system hoping this would reinstall any drivers that were corrupted or missing.  That didn't fix the problem - probably because the computer didn't detect the fingerprint reader.  Yesterday, however, the Add Hardware tool popped up and said it detected my fingerprint reader (for the first time in 3 months!).  I downloaded the drivers and installed the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  I am hopeful but not confident that this will fix my problems.  Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the reader is suddenly working, what caused it to disappear from the system to begin with, or how I can keep it from disappearing again? Also, ever since having the system board replaced, I am unable to use ThinkVantage System Update.  It gives me the  message "Error 75 received from the Package Index Server.  Please contact the Support Center."  I noticed on the preliminary user information screen my machine type and model is listed as "TP-7N__" instead of "7668-CTO" or some var... I have just used system update to install a bunch of updates including one for the "XP/V32" fingerprint sensor software.  After the install the sensor does not work and the finger print software reportes that it "Cannot communicate with the finger print sensor.  Please confirm the sensor is working".  The sensor driver (AuthenTec Inc. AES2810) in the Device Manager reports that it is not working and states that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".   It reports the device to be on "Port_#0001.Hub_#0002", the driver version as 8.1.2.10. I have tried  to use System Resore to go back before the System Update but it fails so I am stuck with what I have now.  (This may be because the BIOS update was installed at the same time.) I uninstalled the Fingerprint Software and reinstalled from a downloaded install file and it still dosent work.  I have seen some other posts about fixiting it this way but it won't work for me.  Does anyone have a solution for this.  I am warey of delething ht edrive and reinstalling the Lenovo Fingerprint Software but it advised to do so I'll try it.  Any advice welcome. Thinkpad, T500, 2081-A25, Vista SP-1.  Note this is a new machine (1 month old) and it was the first System Update after receiving it.  I waited a while as System Update stopped working and I had to re-install it. TonyMessag... Answer:Fingerprint sensor driver corrupted after System Update

As often happens I have solved my own problem.  The solution (in Vista SP-1 anyway) is to both uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint Software using the Contorl Panel applet "Programs and Features" and delete the driver using the Control Panel applet "System" by selecting "Device Manager" in the top left corner, locating Personal Identification Devices, right clicking on the "AuthenTec AES2810" driver, selecting the Device tab and selecting Unistall.  Reboot then download and run "7wf114ww fingerprint software" which is version 3.2.0.275 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70598.  Run it and follow the instructions.  This fixed it for me.

It sounds like your installation of ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software has been corrupted somehow.  I recommend uninstalling it, rebooting, and then installing it again.

Hello together, Iīve installed Windows XP SP3 on my Lenovo 3000 n200 0769-EPG. All works fine but the Fingerprint Software donīt work.I have download the software from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74033 Where can I find the drivers for Windows XP? Please help me! Thank you.

Answer:Windows XP Fingerprint Software

Did you follow the Installation Instructions on that page? Many people just download and run a driver package, and do not realize that the setup files are unpackedto a directory on the hard drive, usually c:\drivers, and thenyou must run the setup. A two step process. You may have done that, but just checking. EDIT: HERE is the driver matrix for your laptop.Since you have a DOS version, maybe some driver was missed, possibly Chipset driver, or System Inteface driver.

Hi,I have a Thinkpad P50 equiped with a fingerprint reader.Worked perfectly well for months, but suddently stopped working.I verified/updated drivers, but this was not the problem.I then had the bad idea of changing the BIOS security option to enable the pre-POST fingerprint option. Now I end-up with a system that keeps rebooting forever preventing me to access the BIOS configuration.(I guess that after pressing F1 for entering BIOS, it expects me to scan my finger, but doesn't find the reader, so reboots again and again.)Please HELPThank you!!

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

Thx!

I have a user who swears that if he places the T61 in his lap (at home or at the airport) and attempts to fingerswipe, it will not work.  If he places the T61 on a flat surface, (even an angled, hard surface) he has no issues.   I have tried to recreate this on my T61 and have not been successful.  I have not physically watched him, at the office, nor has he said anything about issues at the office.  I have not heard of this issue with any of the other 200+ laptops we have configured for FA, but, because the individual in question is my boss and an executive to boot, I cannot convince him that his situation is unique. Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Is there a fix?  Should I tell him he needs to layoff the caffeine?

I am using win 8.1 (fully updated) and used to have working fingerprint logon. Now it stopped working. Suddenly I can not use Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (V 8.01.42(x64)) anymore. Whenever I try to start the application, it asks me for my Windows password, but then responds - "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." OTH, in the device manager, under Biometric devices, I see Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Also windows fingerprint sign-in option is greyed out. Any hints, what can I check?

2.  Change to "Security" menu
3.  change to "Fingerprint" item
4.  Choose the option for "Reset Fingerprint Data" - what happens?

I installed the newest version of Lenovo fingerprint software 5.9.4 on Windows 7 x64 and can no longer log in with the fingerprint reader.  It seems to scan correctly, just won?t log in.  It recognizes an incorrect finger with an error.  When I start the fingerprint software it lets me log into it with my fingerprint.  I uninstalled 5.9.4 and reinstalled 5.9.3 and everything works fine.  Before I did the uninstall I checked to make sure I didn?t have more than one version of the software running.  Are there any known issues with 5.9.4?

Answer:5.9.4 Fingerprint software Windows 7 64 not working

Do you logon to your computer with a domain account? If yes you should go into the control panel after installing the fingerprint software, search for "finger" and click on "Change biometric settings". Make sure that Biometrics is set to on and make sure that both "Allow users to log on to Windows using their fingerprint" and "Allow users to log on to a domain using their fingerprints" are checked.

Hello,
I have just reinstalled OS (Windows 10 x64) on my laptop Vostro 3350 and I am unsuccessfully looking for the driver of the fingerprint validity sensor.
I believe the software I am looking for is called DigitalPersona Fingerprint Software v6.X but the links on the official Dell page are not working (the website www.digitalpersona.com is not accessible).
There are also download links of v6.2.1.309 in a post from 2012, but also not working.
Are there any working mirror links for this software?

Hi there! Please see  this thread for the download links for the Fingerprint Software 5.8 ....This issue was already raised in the ThinkVantage subforum here at Lenovo Forums and it is resolved. Regarding the Turbo Memory, please keep in mind that the hardware only works with Vista. Windows XP does not support turbo memory thus the piece of hardware is rendered useless. With regards to Turbo Memory usage in Vista, the latest drivers do fully support the card in Vista and since there are no technological changes, there is no need for additional or new drivers. Hope this helps!SteveMessage Edited by icantux on 07-09-2008 02:28 PM

Here is the problem I am having: I bought an IBM T42 about three years ago with a preinstalled win xp pro. About 2 years ago I decided to use the fingerprint software and had my index finger scanned for this purpose and also introduced a password (which is a must..in case you hurt your finger)...only after a while i decided to remove the fingerprint request that appeared each time i booted the laptop...and i just hit "delete" next to the fingerprint in the Control Center and removed the password and everything seemed fine. On the following system boot...it kept asking for the fingerprint or password (which had been removed)...so i took the laptop to a computer service where they somehow managed to load windows from the administrator account and said there indeed existed no password and not to worry. Right now in the user accounts there are 2 users..both with the status of administrators: "administrator" and "family"..."family" being the name i wrote the first time i bought the laptop.I am able to enter BIOS by pressing F1 without being asked for a password and when i entered Security->Fingerprint and Security->Password i noticed everything is disabled which i think is a good thing.During startup..before i see the windows interface i get a window that says "Swipe finger over the fingerprint sensor or press Alt+Ctrl+Del to logon using a password", i press alt+ctrl+del and then another window appears where i am asked for a username and password (here all i have t...  Odd that would not be an option listed.  Maybe required additional programming to have that option setup.  Maybe that's a feature Lenovo could release in a future BIOS update or software update since it would be an option I would probably use.  I personally did not get the fingerprint reader on my X220 because I didn't feel I would use it haha but it is a nifty feature. ~Novak

Answer:TOSHIBA Fingerprint utility - how to remove fingerprint password?

If I?m remembering well when you create fingerprint you must create password too in case that your fingerprint cannot be ?read? or scanned properly. In this case you can enter Windows using this created password so you cannot say you didn?t done it.

Try to remember which ?word? you have used as password.

Hi,

since my last update with 'system update' (active hdd protection and something else) I get an error while logging in into windows with the fingerprint reader.

Link to image

I am able to start my thinkpad using the fingerprint reader, but logging in into windows and starting the fingerprint reader software leads to that error message. So I removed drivers and software to install again. But I recognized, there are no drivers / software packages for the fingerprint reader for windows 7 anymore on the lenovo server. Also the system update doesn't show anything for that purpose. So I tried installing the windows 8, 8.1 software but I had the same error.

Furthermore, my system update cannot be started with the normal command anymore (tvsu.exe), I have to use the Tvsukernel.exe file in the system update folder. Something went totally wrong here. I tried to reinstall the system update again several times with no success.

Anyone with an idea? Don't want to re set up windows.

A few days ago, after the usual windows 7 upgrade, the fingerprint prompt to swipe any enrolled finger just disappeared. After several attempts of reinstalling of the fingerprint software what worked is as follows: - From the control panel, Programs and Features, uninstall both the windows driver package and the lenovo fingerprint software; - Download and install the latest lenovo fingerrpint software from the Lenovo support site; - After the restart, you will be prompted to enroll one or more of your fingers.  I was able to enroll one but then later I got an error message "cannot communicate with sensor" or something like it. - What I did is to go to the control panel, device manager, then pointed to the authentec device and chose properties.  Uncheck the box which says something like "allow the computer to switch off device to save on power". - Then chose from the control panel, Lenovo's Fingerprint Reader and proceeded with the enrollment without any issues. - Restarted the system, and it worked as smoothly as before.  BTW, enrolled six fingers, three on each hand.

Hi: Yes, the ProtectTools software was replaced with the Client Security Manager software which is not listed on your notebook's support page. See if this version works from the 840 G1, which was the successive model to yours... HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74101.exe

I just installed Win7 on my T400. I installed the Fingerprint software, but the logon process is different now. When I used XP and I went to logon, I could swipe my finger on the fingerprint scanner, OR I could press Ctrl+Alt+Del and logon using my password. Now with Windows 7, I can still swipe my finger.  But now I can't press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to the place to enter in my password.  Now I first have to press this "Other Credentials" button, then press my user account picture, then I can type my password. This is a real pain, especailly when the laptop is in the docking station, I don't have access to the finger print scanner because the screen is closed on the laptop, so I have to click the "Other Credentials" button then click my username button, then I can type in my password.  Where as before I could just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and type in my password. Is there anyway to get the fingerprint software to work the way it did with XP?  Or can I have it recognize that it is in a docking station, so it won't default to using a fingerprint to log in when the screen is shut? Any idea's? Thanks!

Answer:T400 Fingerprint software with Windows 7, logon not working like it did in XP?

If this helps on Windows 7 Professional if you press esc it brings up both login screens.

Hi all: We bought our first batch of Lenovo Laptops last year (T61) we set most of these up with a base station and a Fingerprint Scanner Keyboard. Both the Keyboard and Laptop Scanner work fine.BUT when we tried to order more T61s this year we were told they were discontinued and replaced by the T500. When we set these up we can only get the Keyboard to work or the Scanner on the Laptop to work. The Laptop Scanner requires one type of software and the Keyboard requires another, neither software will recognize both scanners. Only one software package was required for the T61, and it worked with both scanners. So now I have a batch of unhappy and confused (which scanner is going to work today?) users. Does anybody have any idea how to get both to work? Stance

Dear all,I currently have the following problem using my T430 with windows 8.1 and ThinkVantage fingerprint software v. 6.0.0 installed. Resuming from hibernation using my fingerprint, the device boots successfully, but on the sign-in screen of windows it appears like it signs in instantly and then signs off directly. The new prompt screen to scan your fingerprint or enter your password exhibits the very same abnormal function, i.e. it signs you in and off directly in a matter of moment. The computer becomes therefore unresponsive and I have to "hard" switch off the device (keeping pressed the power button for a few moments) in order to freshly boot.Any good troubleshooting advice? Thanks in advance.

Hi , You might be able to use this Validity Sensor Driver: sp72114 Validity Sensor V 4.5.289.0  Link : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72114.exe In general, Series 6 HP SimplePass can run on Windows 10.  It was, and continues to be, robust and sturdy code. If you have truly lost the Series 6 HP SimplePass program AND if you do not have an Export of your Webcards (website / password backup) -- then you might decide to switch to the newer, and still supported, Series 8 HP SimplePass program. Series 8 HP SimplePass is not an "upgrade" from the older Series 6 version of the program; it is different code - that is, a completely different rendition of the SimplePass product. Series 8 HP SimplePass is written by Softex. Series 6 HP SimplePass was written by AuthenTec. You may, of course, decide to try and run Series 6 HP SimplePass; the program may run with your newer Validity Sensor Driver. Series 6 HP SimplePass:sp63224 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.276 Win7-8 Link : http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63224.exe  Series 8 HP SimplePass:sp71729 HP SimplePass V8.01.46A W7-W10 32/64bit Link : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71729.exe  General rules: Pay attention to the Order of Events when (re)installing your driver and / or software:Sign-in Options matter ? if the system supports Native Windows fingerprint logon, you must assign and configure a PIN to e... X230T running Windows 10, all current Microsoft updates installed, all current Lenovo updates installed. Earlier today my fingerprint scanner stopped functioning and did not recover after multiple reboots. Attempted to run the ThinkVantage Fingerprint software, which crashed. Assumed the software was corrupted somehow and did repair. Repair threw error. Uninstalled the software, rebooted, and attempted reinstall. Reinstallation of the latest ThinkVantage fingerprint software available from Lenovo aborted with error "To use this product, Windows Biometric Framework must be enabled."  Performed the procedure here [ http://all4naija.blogspot.com/2013/11/how-to-enable-windows-biometric.html ] to re-enable biometrics in group policy. Checked to see if biometrics appears in settings, they did not. Checked to see if Windows Biometric Framework was enabled under services -- it is. Reattempting installation of software threw same error. Opened Device Manager and attempted to automatically update. No change. Found earlier driver version (2011, the existing one was 2013). No change. I suspect this may have something to do with the Win10 November update, but I can't be certain. At this point, I'm at a bit of a loss. Any ideas?

Answer:X230T - Fingerprint software not installing, "Windows Biometric Framework must be enabled"

I performed a system restore and got the software, drivers, etc back. However, the fingerprint reader still isn't being detected. Is it sensible to say this is a hardware issue; that is to say, is the physical fingerprint scanner broken? Is this a repairable issue, because I haven't found a part number for just the fingerprint reader.

I have a X1 carbon 3444 with Windows 10. Fingerprint reader (FPR) was working fine. Sensor is a TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor by AuthenTec. The latest Windows 10 update around Christmas resulted in the FPR dissappearing despite device manager showing as working. Tried rolling back driver from 1.6.2.352 to 1.6.1.341 with no help. Tried uninstalling the Lenovo FPR software to see if Windows Hello would see it - but no. Reinstalled Lenovo FPR softwareg1f914ww_64.exe still no result showing Checked Bios and FPR is enabled.Contacted Microsoft who after checking my system and not being able to solve it advised to reinstall windows 10, which I did, and although being reassured this would fix it - has not. Anyone with any ideas?

I used to logg in via fingerprint reader (windows 10) without any problems, now the fingerprint reader doesn't react any longer when I draw the finger. I somehow managed to delete all passwords in the password manager (not even sure about this as I actually don't understand how all the components work together) hoping that this would solve the problem. Not the fingerprint reader software keeps asking me to register a new finger. Everything seems to work out fine (I can choose a finger to be registered, type in my windowns password) untill I'm being asked to draw the finger over the fingerprint reader: Nothing happens! The indicator which shows how much of the finger has been scanned doesn't show anything at all. Looks like the software works, but the fingerprint reader itself is dead. However, looking into the system information the 'TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor' (WBF advanced mode) seems to work correct. Please help. I have not a clue how to find out what goes wrong here.

Answer:Fingerprint reader doesn't react any more while software seems to work (Thinkpad E530 Windows 10)

HelloI just found out what was the problem with my computer. You need to set up a PIN in the account sign in. Go to control panel, select user accounts, then select "Make changes to my account in PC settings".There you select "Sign-in options".Probably you have not set up a PIN. Then do it. After the PIN is set up, you get access to the next step after PIN, which is "Windows Hello". There you activate the Fingerprint part and it asks you to swipe your finger several times. You can also swipe more fingers if you want other people to get access to your account. After this is done, your finger print reader will work.

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hi I lost connection with the device.error 0Xe7210005System: Windows XP ProWhat can I do to fix this problem Thank Tommy

Answer:Biometric device (FINGERPRINT)

Hi Tommy, Your fingerprint reader is not connected to the systemboard. If you know how to remove the palmrest, check the wire underneath to ensure that the FPR is connected. If that doesn't work, call tech support so we can help replace your palmrest assembly.  Hope this helps. Cheers,Mark

Hi Just bought IdeaPad V370. Installed Windows 7 x64.Everything was Ok until I tried to initialize fingerprint application - BioExcess. It could not find the device. But I bet it was listed in Device Manager. I tried to install Windows hotfixes KB974476 and KB978258 listed near the fingerprint driver. But no way, both are aborted with "The update is not applicable to your computer". Questions: 1. How to fix disappearing EgisTec Fingerprint device; 2. Is it Ok to use on my V370 BioExcess application downloaded from V360 dedicated page?  Thanks

Answer:Fingerprint device disappeared.

hi distagon.as you said, please, use v360's download page to re-install finger print devices and post back the results.

My remarketed T500 works very fine. However - I cannot make the fingerprint device working . I installed the fingerprint application and when the action is supposed to be done (for example in the tutorial window) or when I want to assign the finger , I get error message: cannot enroll the user,  the fingerprint - sensor device not found. I looked even at BIOS - it is enabled (security - fingerprint - external to internal). Is is possible that it really does not work or something has still to be done to activate it ?

Answer:T 500 - fingerprint device not working ?

if it is activated in the bios then it should work.Does your touchpad work?

I had configured my fingure print device a long back and was working fine. all of a sudden it has some issue's with it. while at the windows logon screen. i always see the device is not detected. If i boot the notebook and reboot it again, i find the device detected and working fine. This is real strange observation.let me know how to debug/ work out this issue.Has any one faced the same issue and have a work around for this. Thanks in advance--amit

Answer:T61: fingerprint device could not be initialized

Assuming you have the latest BIOS and latest compatible version of ThinkVantage Fingerprint software, we've witnessed intermittent issues when users begin tweak their BIOS and enable non existent parallel ports or tamper with the PCI management settings, the issue with the reader malfunctioning then woking after a restart has been caused XP detecting previously disabled serial ports and InfraRed reader that actually conflicts with the internal biometric device. Rebooting can but now always reenable the fingerprint reader since XP realizes the conflict and "soft" disables the newly BIOS enabled IR,  SerialPort or Parallel port. A quick troubleshooting method is reset the BIOS to all defaults while taking note of whether the IR, Serial, or Parallel port is enabled in your default BIOS profile then reboot. This method works for us 100% of the time since we've never experienced a failed finger sensor in our inventory  and resetting the BIOS along with wagging our finger at the end user has effectively solved this issue.
