ThinkPad W510 on-screen mute, volume, brightness, ThinkLight not working.

Question: ThinkPad W510 on-screen mute, volume, brightness, ThinkLight not working.

Hey, I have system interface driver, onscreen display, thinkpad fullscreen magnifier all installed from lenovo update and drivers. But the mute, volume, brightness, ThinkLight onscreen display are not working, but things like fn + f3, caps lock, num lock are working. Everything works like sound and brightness, but the onscreen display is not showing the black and white volume meter or brightness meter.I have everything installed from windows update too and latest update for everything, what am i missing? I have tried installing a display inf file.I have tried installing system interface driver, onscreen display, thinkpad fullscreen magnifier before and after installing nvidia graphic drivers and without and still not showing onscreen display.I have enabled on screen display though advanced settings. I bought this W510 refurbished and the onscreen worked, but afterwords i custom installed win 7 pro 64 and now after all updates does not work onscreen display. Windows 7 Proffesional 64 bit it seems like a small problem but i don't get why onscreen display not showing! thanks!

Preferred Solution: ThinkPad W510 on-screen mute, volume, brightness, ThinkLight not working.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had a similar problem when I upgraded software. You can go back to a restore point before you installed Winamp or uninstall Winamp and see what happens.

I had to rebuild my W510 laptop recently and installed Windows 7 x64. I have most of the drivers, but I do not know which ones are used for the volume/mute buttons. Does anyone have a link? I don't really want all the Thinkvantage stuff back on the laptop as much of it was rather annoying

Hello, I have a Thinkpad X140E with Windows 7 (64-bit) and recently the On-Screen Display for volume and brightness keys stopped functioning (no on-screen display). I tried uninstalling the OSD through Programs and Features and reinstalling the latest available Hotkey Features Integration but it didn't change a thing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recently upgraded my W700 to a clean Win7 Pro x64 install, downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from the Lenovo website, and did a manual install of all of them. Mostly there were no problems, however the OSD for mute, volume up/down, and brightness did not work. Here is the page for the Hotkey Features Integration package, which contains the OSD program: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bi... The problem appears to be a bug in latest version of the OSD program, for the W700. I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <&l... HI All,     So when I first got the the SL410, I was quite annoyed by the capslock indicator. I can't remember what I did, but I got rid of the indicator, along with the functionality of the volume/mute/mic buttons to the side of the keyboard. I'd like them to work again, but I can't remember what I did. Did I delete a registry value? Stop a service? I'm running windows 7. I tried downloading the new "hot key" manager and this did not work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!julius

Answer:Volume/Mute/Mic Buttons, on screen display not working on SL410.... my fault! How to restore?

Ok, so I downloaded the System Update app. Now I've got on screen notifications, but the volume/mute/mic buttons still don't work... thoughts?

After doing a clean install of windows 8 pro, the microphone mute button doesn't work. I've installed the win8 power manager, updated bios and all. When I place hard drive with win7 image, it works just fine. Can someone please help or give some suggestions as to what I can do to get the mic mute button to work. Thanks

Answer:Microphone Mute button not working W510 - Windows 8

Hi, tokey63

If you've updated all the drivers and it does not work, but everything works in Windows 7, then I don't think the driver to fix this exact problem has been released yet. If you haven't already, you could try to use the driver from Windows 7 and see if that helps. Though they are two different OSes, they are sometimes similar enough to use older drivers until a newer one is released. You can find that older driver here.

Best of luck,
Adam

My Ricoh Media Card reader isn't working! It was fine until I recently installed an mSATA SSD on my X220. Did a clean W7 64 bit install, then reinstalled over that with the factory discs. After that I wiped my HDD. I made sure Lenovo's System Update installed and updated everything. I've tried using other SD cards also, none of them work. The cards are not detected at all. Need help! Thanks! Edit: I also tried manually installing the latest media card drivers from Lenovo's support site Another issue: I am no longer seeing on screen displays when changing volume, muting, unmuting, changing brightness, turning on the ThinkLight. Problem started after I installed the following update through Windows Update: Lenovo - LCD, Other hardware - ThinkPad Display 1366x768:Lenovo LCD, Other hardware software update released in March, 2013I'm not able to find this update in the Windows Update uninstall list.

I just went to turn my T61 on, and no bueno.  Numlock and Capslock lights up briefly, the drives and CD drive spins up and down, as does the cooling fan, and then it just sits there.  Screen does not come on, external monitors do not work, the ThinkLight won't turn on or off.  I'm pretty sure it's hitting POST but not making it beyond that point.I recently (two months ago?) replaced the cooling fan assembly for the CPU/GPU, and am pretty confident everything went together correctly.  I'm a little unfamiliar with a laptop's innards, vs a desktop, and was wondering if anyone had tips for troubleshooting the unit? Thanks!

Hi, I often hibernate my W510 and some times when I start her up again, the brightness function keys refuse to work. Other function keys seem to work ok. It's a real pain if I'm trying to conserve battery and the brightness is on full (notably it doesn't automatically switch to a lesser brightness either when this fault occurs). Anyone else experience this? RegardsAndy Wu

Answer:W510 Screen Brightness Keys Disabled

Hey, I am also now observing this issue.  I thought it was just a fluke at first, but it's now fairly obvious that this happens frequently after coming out of hibernation.  I have tried adjusting it by using Power Management, but adjusting the setting in software doesn't do anything.  I was running Power Manager 3.13 (which came with my laptop), and am currently using version 3.20.  I experienced the problem before and after upgrading the software.

Hello, I've recently installed my Y580 back to factory condition with the Recovery Discs. I'm still installing things and yesterday something changed, the normal graphics of the mute button changed, instead of a speaker with a slash it became this: The Volume Up and Down also were changed to a similar gfx, now not decreasing or increasing 10% all the time. Plus one more thing, the Fn + Esc now results in nothing, whereas before it would toggle the Webcam on or off, plus the Fn + F5 before showed a window gaving the possibility to disable Bluetooth and/or wireless adapter, now it will not do such thing, it will nly say "Airplane mode on/off". I understand that these are usually related to the Lenovo Energy Management, but I don't recall updating it. Although yesterday I did update Lenovo Support and Lenovo Companion. I haven't tried it yet but I believe re-installing the Energy Management would bring it back to normal, but I was wondering if there was a friendlier approach. I don't care at all uninstalling Lenovo Support and Companion by the way..

Answer:Y580 - Fn + Esc not Working and Different Mute / Volume Up-Down Graphics

I have reinstalled energy management and it didn't work, then I uninstalled and installed it once more, hopeless. Even when energy management was uninstalled I was able to use the Fn + Keys, and the same gfx for volume, contrast, mute... I'm not sure what to do anymore, wouldn't want to restore to factory default lol

I'm working on a Lenovo 3000 c100, and running Windows XP. I have all the service packs up and running, my virus scanner and firewall are up to date, and I've already run a virus scan.I know it's not a problem with any of the keys, because all the other function option keys still work (Example: I can still use the function key to adjust the screens brightness), and the keys that host the function options still works. (Example: The volume up function option is on the f1 key, and the f1 command still works if pressed, but the volume up command does not). The only exception to this is that they work if the volume control panel it open. I've run out of ideas of what is wrong with it, and I don't really want to dig through my system and possibly make things worse without knowing what I'm doing, so I've decided to ask you guys.If I've left out any information that could be useful, let me know and I'll be glad to fill it in. Thanks in advance.

I just reinstalled my W510 system from the standard Win7 Pro 64-bit install image and went through the process of installing all the Lenovo packaged drivers and software with exception of the display driver.  I decided to install the 197.16 driver from NVidia's website and was please to find that it fixes my interlaced pixel shifting issue.  However, now I don't get any OSD indicator when I change the screen brightness.  Mute, volume, microphone mute, and ThinkLight OSD indicators all work great, but when I change the screen backlight brightness I get no OSD indicator. Is there something written into the Lenovo-provided video drivers that enables this feature? I have tried the 3.01 HotKey feature integration software (included in the C:\SWTOOLS folder on default install) as well as the latest 3.10 version available on the Lenovo website, but neither version displays the brightness OSD indicator. So here's what I'm asking.  Can the HotKey software be fixed to support this feature while using NVidia-provided driver, or can the Lenovo-provided video driver be upgraded to the 197.16 release? And would using the Lenovo video driver really correct my problem, or is this bug unrelated to the video driver?

Answer:W510 Screen brightness OSD indicator gone w/NVidia driver

Lenovo did not update their nvidia graphic card driver for W510 hence the hotkey will not support your version of nvidia driver you got from nvidia website. W510 graphic version is 188.xx now. Hope they can update and update their hotkey to support it.

Answer:Thinkpad W510 internal microphone not working - windows 7

Hi Nakul,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that internal microphone in your Lenovo ThinkPad W510 is not working properly.

Check if microphone is enabled in the Bios, under security, IO port access or in windows through control panel, sound, recording, select microphone. If you right-click on the microphone, you can select Properties and you'll be able to adjust all the settings for it. Make sure that the volume is at a decent level. In the advanced tab, try changing the default format and check.

Hope this helps!

Hello all- I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

Answer:T440s: No on screen display of caps lock, volume, screen brightness, etc.

Hi Brightnsalty,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you were facing issue with On Screen Display earlier on ThinkPad T440s.

And we glad to hear that the issue has been resolved after installing Hot key feature application.

I also suggest you to update Lenovo power management application, if the OS is Windows 7, please update Lenovo Power Manager application.

Cheers!

Hello,

My laptop: Dell Latitude E5550 - 15.6" FHD - Core i5 5300U - Intel HD Graphics 5500 - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - 8 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD.

Does anybody know what drivers/software is responsible for displaying On Screen Volume and Screen Brightness Indicator (while pressing Fn+F2,F3,...) ?

What I've found so far that the Dell QuickSet may does the work (link to this solution: No Level Indicator When Using Keyboard Audio Volume Controls), but I couldn't find a compatible version of this soft with Dell Latitude E5550.

I have an HP Elitebook X3U19AV that was given to me from my work.

Brand new out of the box.

Running Windows 10 Education - version 1607
OS Build 14393.1593

Two somewhat similar problems with one little difference.

When I use the F3 and F4 button to try and control brightness nothing happens. I've tried pushing these buttons while holding down the fn key and without holding down that key.

When I use the f5,6 and 7 button to try and control the volume, I can see the system volume display showing up and being affected, but it doesn't change the volume that is actually coming out of my computer. I have noticed this on several websites with sound. I also downloaded Spotify to see if the volume control buttons would work on that and they do not. I have to find the individual volume control within the website or in Spotify and change the sound for just that app or website.

I have followed the suggestion on this website that asked me to run the System File Checker. No luck.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello,
The controls (volume, brightness, keyboard brightness, etc) on the F1-F12 buttons are not working.  This is probably a setting issue but my XPS 13 is new and I haven't done much with it except let my kids play with it.  If I want to adjust volume, I have to manually open up the program to adjust it.  It is just getting annoying.  Please help.

Hi, I recently completely cleared my laptop and re-installed Windows 7 due to a virus. I am having issues with my brightness and volume control buttons on the keyboard. The brightness buttons do not work at all and there is no option to adjust the brightness via the power options either. My laptop is stuck on the highest setting. The volume buttons seem to adjust the volume appropriately, but the icon that typically appears in the middle of my screen when I do so is not there (the grey volume icon that appears when you use the f9 and f10 buttons and fades away shortly after). Additionally, the mute botton also seems to work but the red light on the f11 key does not respond accordingly, I only know it works from the volume icon on my taskbar.  I had some help from Paul Tikkanen in downloading several missing drivers for various other issues so I'm wondering if this is also a poblem that can be solved with a similar download? If not, is anyone able to suggest other solutions?  Thank you, Kristen

Hi there,

I've trawled around and seen that the issue of the F2 and F3 buttons for brightness doesnt actually change the brightness, I get the symbol but no change.

I also have an issue with the Beats scroll wheel which will not allow me to switch it to anti clockwise even when selected on the beats audio software.

From the looks of it the brightness issue is an old one and im shocked it's still happening, hopefully someone can give me a straight and easy fix to this, would be great

Hello,

I recently purchased a Lenovo Y50-70 laptop and after installing all the drivers from the site I noticed that the display that comes up when I change the volume/brightness etc may appear differently.
http://imgur.com/a/AD3iL
I recognize the dark+green theme from my previous Y570 laptop.
My question is what is causing either one or the other to be displayed? Is there anyway I can control which to show?

Thanks,

I just upgraded my T510 with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. While downloading all the drivers and stuff for installation I thought I might as well update the BIOS as well. Everything worked just fine and the new configuration works well but I have lost the on-screen display that pops up when adjusting sound or brightness. Can someone tell me how to turn that back on? I like that feature.  I read a post where the user can't make that black bar go away, so I suppose my problem isn't as bad. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, I have an issue with my Thinkpad W510. Immediatly after installing a fresh windows 10 onto the computer (in order to sell, the laptop already had windows 10/fedora dual booting and everything was fine.) the screen resolution became wacky. Upon booting the screen is repeated 4 times going vertically down the screen. Once booted into the OS there is a split about 2/3 down the screen and the top half of the screen is repeated on the bottom 1/3. Colors are also very dull. I updated windows 10 fully, installed the latest nvidia driver, and rebooted, no results. I then rolled back to windows 8 which is what i got the computer with, updated, updated drivers, and still have no option other than 1024x768 resolution. And the screen is still repeating itself. I have also taken the computer apart, dusted, made sure the video connectors were seated. Put back together and problem persists. However, when plugging in a display via VGA it displays fine. Is this an issue within identifying the display on the latop? Or more likely a coincidence that the fresh install of windows happened along side a hardware failure of the screen/video cable. I'm pretty stuck right now and was really needing to get this sold. Any help is appreciated thank you!

Hi All,I am looking at purchasing a W510. I have a Dell wfp2007 30" monitor that I would like to drive off of the W510, at the full 2560x1600 resolution. The wfp2007 only has a Dual-Link Dvi - and the W510 comes with a DisplayPort. It would seem I need a DisplayPort to Dual Dvi cable to make this work.My questions to you:(1) Anyone have any experience getting 2560x1600 resolution with a w510 and a wfp2007?(2) Would I need to get the dock (even though the laptop itself has a DisplayPort - because of the extra power supply?)(3) Any other reccommendations for driving the wfp2007 with the w510 at 2560x1600?Thank you very much for your help!!Meera

Answer:Thinkpad W510 - trying to get 2560x1600 resolution on Dell wfp2007 using a W510

Go here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/index.php and search for threads by RonS He posted some stuff about W510 and resolution limitations.  As I recall, the W510 has a DVI-I and won't support your resolution. In regards to DisplayPort to DVI-D port on your monitor, one approach would be to by a powered DP to DVI converter.  Passive converts max out at a lower resolution, so make sure you get an active/powered box if you go this route.

Hello,
I'm looking for the driver that gives me that on-screen indicator when ever I change the volume or brightness level using the F3 F4 F5 etc. keys. I know for other Dell laptops it's the tool called "Dell Quickset Application" that adds this functionality, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a version for the XPS 13 9434. It isn't listed in the "Applications" list in the drivers page. I tried the XPS 13 L321X one but it doesn't let me install it.
Does anybody know what I can do to get these indicators?
Thank you!

Everything worked perfectly until 12/19/2016. Then i noticed the volume up and down and mute hotkeys no longer worked or displayed onscreen as they always did. Neither does the brightness keys. I know they worked on 12/18/2016, just a day before. I tried updating Lenovo driver and reinstalling several drivers from Lenovo's website, still nothing. I entered the BIOS to ensure no changes were made there somehow, they weren't (Hotkey setting was Enabled). I noticed on 12/14/2016 a security hotfix was installed, KB3206632, which i uninstalled. Nothing else haas changed or had been done to the laptop. Also tried a cold shutdown and reboot, several times, no good. The Lenovo settings app shows the hotkey function enabled directly for the keys and not the Fx key functions (I did confirm the F1 key does offer help if i hold the Fn key and the mute/F1 key so mute should be the buttons default without the Fn key pressed). Not sure what else to try.Things I have reinstalled include the Intel chipset driver, video driver, Energy Management Driver, Intel Vrtual Buttons Driver, and Lenovo Quick Optimizer. Any ideas?

power manager is in charge of OnScreenDisplay icons. No wonder they disappeared after you uninstalled power manager.

Okay, so problem solved, though I'm not sure what I did exactly. On the off chance that the conexant audio app was the problem, I uninstalled it. When windows rebooted, i got a message that I had no audio device and that windows was trying to fix the problem. To confirm this, I tried to watch somethng on Netflix and sure enough, no sound. However, a moment later when i went back to Netflix, I had sound AND the indicator bars have returned, AND the audio device is on my laptop, showing that it was installed (could it be reinstalled?) today!

Having a really aggrivating issue with our new W510 Thinkpads we bought that I am having a hard time figuring out how to fix. Here are the specs: - W510- Core i7-720QM 1.6- 8GB RAM- Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit- Intel 80GB X25-M 2nd Gen SSD with latest firmware The problem I keep seeing: Sometimes while booting the system will stop during the Windows 7 boot animation (the assembling windows logo).  The only way to get out of it is to hard power off the machine. On next boot it usually suggests running startup repair.  I run it - it finds nothing.  It shuts the laptop down.  Generally on the next boot it works fine.  Sometimes it doesn't. I have 20 of these laptops built off of a sysprepped image of the same format/size SSD.  If the system boots everything works perfectly fine from then on, until some random point during a subsequent shutdown or restart it does it again. What I've tried to fix it: - Installed latest W510 bios (it wasnt showing up in system update so I grabbed it from the site) Anyone else have any ideas?  This is incredibly frustrating as we just bought 20 of these and I am seeing this issue on every single one of them intermittently. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W510 hangs at Windows 7 boot screen

Have you got the Thinkpad connected to an external monitor? I had the same problem, with my W510 connected via the dock to an external monitor. The only way I could get it to boot without locking/hanging at the Windows logo was to have the external monitor unplugged at boot time. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers 8.17.11.9716 (from the Nvidia website) and this resolved the issue for me.

I tried many proposed solutions to the problem without success. The following worked for me. It may well be previously reported; I do not know. Using T-61P (same software as others) and had following programs installed with latest downloads: Power Manager 5.20Power Manager Driver 1.67.00.02On Screen Display 6.70.00System Interface Driver 1.05 Computer had operated properly prior to latest updates. In my case, at least, the missing display problem seems to have been incompatability of the new OSD version 6.70 with other programs. Removing that version of OSD and replacing with version 6.67.10 did the trick.  The earlier OSD program is part of the prior version of the Hot Key suite which can be found and downloaded via Google search for "3.84.2000" without the quotes and not from Lenovo which only lists present version. When you install 3.84.2000, opt only to install the OSD sub-package. Good luck.

Registered to just say thanks for this solution - worked also for me, though with different machine (X60s), already tried to reinstall different power manager versions, on screen displays, remove virtual clone drive and whatnot without luck.

Answer:Still can't see volume and brightness changes on-screen after Hotkey Feature Integration

OSD works fine on my 7-year-old W500. with Win 7 Ultimate.  It's an excellent machine with SSD to give it new life. Can you see the correct OSD version 6.73.01 installed in Control Panel > Programs?  It appears as "On Screen Display" in the list (without "Lenovo" or "Thinkvantage". Does the the Full Screen Magnifier work?  Just to prove something in the package is working. I seem to recall that the HotKey package works in conjunction with other Lenovo packages that must also be up to date.  Not sure which ones.  Power manager may be one. Did you install HotKeys manually or via System Update?  If you have an older version of the package on your W500, it may be possible that is getting installed instead of the new one. I'm just guessing here, trying to give you some clues to check out.

I read several post on this issue before trying to get my W7 Pro 64-bit system working. Downloaded Hotkey driver for windows ver 2.23.0000 and installed it with no problems. Do I still need to do the regedit hack as some post suggest thing to make this work? The install created 'On Screen Display 5.32.00' and 'ThinkPad FullScreen Magnifier 2.10'. Are there other steps involved to get this function working? I do not have presentation director installed but the Lenovo site says that's only for Vista and XP, anyone know for sure? TIA for your help.

I am installing updates on a T400 system running WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit. The system has been freshly factory restored and all features work properly... After running System Restore to update to the latest drivers and recommended software, I find Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 breaks features. I am able to use Hotkeys to change brightness up/down, Fn+F5, Fn+F6, etc. The volume up and down keys work to change volume. The mute button does not work at all! There is no On Screen Display to show the adjustment settings for any Hotkeys. I have found that installing the older 3.88.0000 (8jvu40ww.exe) version of ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration works successfully with mute button functionality as well as the On Screen Display features. Comparing what is different between the 3.89.0000 and 3.88.0000 versions, I find On Screen Display version and Full Screen Magnifier have advanced. The version information table at the bottom of the software download page is inconsistent compared to what is actually reported from the 3.88.0000 setup.exe: Setup shows:On Screen Display 6.71.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.40 The table shows:On Screen Display 6.72.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.41 The System Interface Driver is 1.05 on all the recent versions. With the 3.89.0000 version installed, I cannot uninstall and go back to the older version to get it working. Instead, ... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 On Screen Display and Mute Button Fail

I have three T410 laptops. Two of them have intel graphics and one has an nvidia graphics chip. I have the exact same problem as RChesley with the two that have the Intel graphics. The latest Hotkey Features Integration driver 3.89 from system update has disabled my on screen display. Removing it with windows system restore brought it back. Uninstalling it and installing an earlier version would not work. My T410 with the Nividia graphics chip does not have this problem. It has the 3.89 Hotkey Driver installed and the on screen display works fine. My two T410s with the Intel graphics do have the latest Intel graphics drivers offered by Lenovo System Update. Lenovo System Update indicates that the 3.89 driver is required in order to install the latest power manager driver which enables the CPU turbo boost. I would like to have turbo boost working. I just figured out how to correct the corruption of the Lenovo Toolbox from an incorrect driver that was pushed by Lenovo System Update, now I have this to deal with. I would appreciate it if Lenovo would look into this and report back on this thread.

Hi guys! Just got my Lenovo Ideapad Z370 and very happy with the looks and performance, but one thing is really annoying me since I got it.The touch buttons above F9-F12 keys never worked. Since the first time I turned on the notebook they just lie there, completely off, with no lights and no function at all.I tried to reinstall the drivers, the onekey theatre soft and a bunch of suggested drivers in this forums and still have no clue how to fix it. Someone can help me?Thanks,Gui

usually upgrading graphic card causes this. have you updated the drivers? have you tried to re-install power management?

I just received my w510 today, everything seems work fine except the microphone mute button's LED light. That orange light is always on, no matter if the function is on or not. The mute function works fine but the only problem is the light. Anybody has any idea?

Answer:W510 microphone mute LED light

Any idea? Is that volume control part of keyboard?

Everyone, I have a W510 with windows 7 and I would say about 1 out of 10 times when I boot it up while on the docking station it locks up and hangs on the windows logon screen. After this happens you have to do a hard shutdown and reboot it off the docking station. The problem is we are about to deploy these laptops with the same setup to employees next month and we have to get this working properly, can anyone help? Thanks so much for your time, Randy

I have a Dell Precision 5510 laptop issued by my work. They have installed some custom software and  and I seem to have lost the OSD showing the little bars indicating adjustments to Volume and Brightness when you use the Fn keys to adjust them. A search of previous threads indicated this function was previously managed by a program called Dell Quickset or Dell ControlPoint System Manager, but these were from posts several years old and neither of those programs seems to be applicable to my current laptop. Any idea what program or drivers need to be installed to restore this functionality?
Edit: I'm on Windows 7

Answer:Missing On Screen Display (OSD) for volume and brightness adjustments with Fn keys

Same exact issue here.  Also, I'd like to add that the dell customizations to the windows mobility center are also missing for me.  I'm on Windows 7 btw...

I thought these were toggled through the properties menu for the screen display, but apparently not.Well, I initially had them going but lost them somehow, probably in an acute rush of ineptitude, because I deleted most of the Thinkvantage utilities from my 3-day old-system (that's how long I tolerated them.... a record of sorts; liked the old Configuration setup better). I'm guessing I'll need to reinstall to get those little features back but if that's the case, does the ThinkVantage suite come with a pick-and-choose option? The default setup just seemed to insist on crippling my TP with too many virtual in-your-face training wheels....I've gone through three Thinkpads decade to date, and now I'm luvin' No. 4 (this R61e). It replaces a trusty T30 that lasted me just over 5 years, 24/7 (till the video cable assembly died).... Great display, comfortable keyboard, plenty fast for my needs, hope it lasts me another 5.

Answer:How to turn on the on-screen meter bar for light brightness and audio volume?

You probably need to install the HotKey driver, with that comes the On Screen Display driver.
If you haven't deleted the C:\SWTOOLS folder you'll find there in the DRIVERS folder.

Hi all,All of a sudden I no longer get the green OSD confirmation images on screen when I change the volume level or LCD brightness etc. I'm not sure why this is, I didn't change anything.I have since looked in personalise --> display settings ---> advanced settings ---> On Screen Display if I can fix it there but it's a no go. This is on Vista Ultimate. Anyway, I remember it working without enabling this option so this can't be it (though it does seem like where it's configured).Do I need to reinstall anything? Thanks in advance

Answer:W700 - OSD no longer visible when changine volume, screen brightness etc.

You can try reinstall software, I have the same issue.

I have a brand new Thinkpad Edge E425 and the brightness buttons stopped working. Not only that, the brightness won't adjust in the power control either. I uninstalled and re-installed the power station program and the drivers and the brightness buttons worked for one day and then stopped again. However, when it was working the graphic wouldn't come up. It almost seems like the power station isn't working at all because I set it to save battery power and the time my battery lasts doesn't change.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E425 Brightness stopped working

So I uninstalled and re-installed Power Manager and drivers and it is working again, for now...

Hi! my ThinkPad shows a strange behavior... Suddenly the screen brightness was reduced by the system. Brightness is "15" but it is darker than before. I can not find any option to raise brightness!!!! I am using a Lenovo power supply unit. It is annoying to use the ThinkPad at daylight. Really exhausting looking at a screen thats too dark. Any tips? Regards, nightwatch83

Answer:Screen Brightness (ThinkPad Edge 15)

nightwatch83,

Some basic questions...

If you reboot to windows and are on AC is the screen still dim?   Does it respond at all to screen brightness increase / decrease settings?

If you restart and go into BIOS on AC, how bright is the display?  Any different than in Windows?

If the problem seems isolated in Windows, I would reload the power manager and hotkey drivers and recheck the settings in power manager for screen brightness.

Best regards,

Mark

On my Thinkpad, the brightness is to low, even if I increase it to maximum. The only thing that seems to get the brightness to work correctly is connecting the laptop to an AC adapter.  What could my issue be?

Answer:Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

The maximum brightness in battery mode is less than in AC-mode to save battery power. You can  increase it in the BIOS under Config - Display - Brightness setting the value to "high" (see explanation text on the right side after selecting that item).
