Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

Question: Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Hello everyone.I have G510 laptop for almost 1 year and im still fighting with WiFi's connectivity problem.WiFi hardware id: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4365&SUBSYS_061117AADriver version: 6.20.55.55System: Windows 7 64 bit. When im in home and im playing internet games or watching youtube my connection randomly drop down, im getting lags and WiFi card loses connection with router (or turn off itself). All other devices in area: PC's, tablet, smartphones have connectivity with internet. I don't know what's going on - one day it works fine, next day it can drop connection multiple times. Its infuriating when you are playing online with friends or trying. Ping commands shows that sometimes ping to router is high: 60-90 (when mostly i get from under 1 to 2 ms) or few packets gets lost. When I lost connection I have to manually connect to the network, sometimes I need to restart WiFi card. It helps only for a few seconds - after them the problem occurs again. I have tried:Reinstalling card drivers + format and fresh install of system and all drivers,Unchecking saving power in properties,Setting WMM to disabled in properties,Disabling IPv6,Changing wifi channel on router,Uninstalling Lenovo Wireless Driver.I don't know what to do now. If you need more info (for example: from Event Viewer) - please write.

hi Cichy93,

Welcome to the Forums.

That hardware ID is referring to a Broadcom 43142 same in this thread.

Can you try the Microsoft Basic Driver as indicated in the thread and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Our company has several T410i 2522-P38 notebooks with Intel 5150 WiFi/WiMAX cards, all still running XP. Recently I had to reinstall OS on one machine. There was a minor problem that Lenovo support site download page for this machine offers Intel WiMAX 6205 instead of 5150, but I have driver package stored. However, after installing OS, drivers and Lenovo packages I've found that in Fn+F5 window I see only Bluetooth adapter, WiFi and WiMAX don't appear, yet they are correctly shown in Device Manager and WiFi works (couldn't check WiMAX). This is not first time I face such problem, so I tried to solve it in usual way: uninstalled and reinstalled Hotkey package and drivers (Power Management driver and WiFi), tried several different versions of drivers and Hotkey - all to no success. Whatever I was doing, only BT was seen in Fn+F5. Finally I ended up reverse-engineering Hotkey, and got quite unexpected result: it simply doesn't know WiFi driver present on the notebook. Hotkey package (namely, TpFnF5.exe file which creates Fn+F5 window) has a hard-coded list of known adpater Hardware IDs. Intel WiFi Link 5150 present on the notebook has ID VEN_8086&DEV_423D&SUBSYS_13168086, while closest match in the list was VEN_8086&DEV_423D&SUBSYS_13118086. As an experiment, I've patched TpFnF5.exe to replace "13118086" with "13168086", and voila - WiFi appears in Fn+F5, and can be switched on and off! I've checked TpFnF5.exe from several different versions of Hotkey ... Read more

Hi, I just bought a new Lenovo U31-70 with Windows 10 already installed on it. There is a problem with the double tap feature, it doesn't work. The feature is enable in the option. This model of Lenovo has Alps touchpad driver and I'm not able to find on regedit where to enable the double tap, this workaround instead works if you have Synaptics drivers. Who can help me?

Hello guys! Thanks for this opportunity and nice to meet you! As I said in the title, the Touchpad doesn't work anymore. I think it's a software fault, because I have my PC near 1 year (my warranty will expire on 25 November) and I Always taking care of my computer. I tried the FN combination,It doesn't work,on Control Panel I don't see "Mouse and Touchpad" but only "Mouse" (I use a USB Mouse) and I see only "Lenovo Pointing Device" from Synaptics with no driver update. What should I do? Thank you!

The cursor doesn't even display on screen unless I connect a mouse. It was working fine then suddenly the problem started. I tried FN + F6 but no point I tried installing this driver http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds037924But that didn't solve the problem I entered device manager >> view by connection type, and I found "Lenovo Pointing Device" with a yellow triangle on it. I uninstalled it and it disappeared forever............. But the problem is still there. it's as if the entire touchpad cable isn't even connected to the motherboard.................

Answer:Lenovo Y510P touchpad doesn't work at all

hi cocopops12,

From your findings, it does look like the touchpad is faulty. To verify, can you please consider doing the following:
1. Shutdown the machine and press the OneKey Recovery (OKR) button. On the Novo Menu, select System Recovery
   - Link to picture

2. On the System Recovery menu, try to use the Touchpad and see if it moves.

If the Touchpad still doesn't move even in the System Recovery screen then it's likely the the Touchpad is showing signs of failure. In this case, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may need to send the unit for service to replace the Touchpad.

Hello, I've got a problem with my U310's touchpad. It refuses to work in any way while charging, even a coursor does not show up... I've tried to reinstall the driver, check for viruses, but it still doesn't work. Surprisingly for me it is working as usual while running on battery, but stops in the moment I plug in into charger. Have anybody encountered this issue? Thanks for your help.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

http://goo.gl/9Cc53

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

Hi Recently my laptop has randomly shutdown/restart and when it comes back on the wifi adapter has magically been uninstalled and I would have to reinstall to get wifi again.  I noticed it happened quite a bit after a windows update. I read somewhere (Can't remember where) that it happened quite a few times to people and what needed to be done is that the driver needed updating because something to do with the windows update. So this is what I did and so far so good stayed on. Till today, I just locked my pc and went off to do something come back and it has restarted by itself (not for windows updates may I say they was already up to date.) When it came on again bingo the adapter was gone again.  It is becoming very frustrating and I hope someone can help me before I lose my marbles and chuck it out the window lol. I hope I aint the only one because must mean my laptop is on the way out   Thanks!Elizabeth

I have a ~3 year old Asus X552e laptop which has begun regularly losing the Wifi connection perhaps 2-3 times per day. Fixes I've tried include updating the wireless adapter drivers, changing the power settings so that Wifi does not switch off when in power-saving mode, and running the troubleshooter if and when it does go off.

The connection always comes back upon restarting, but obviously time and sometimes work is lost by losing all browser activities and having to restart the whole system.

This began happening within the last 2 months or so; it occurred to me that a Windows 10 update released during that time may have been a partial cause.

Mobile and other devices using the same router have no such issues, so the problem is only with this laptop.

Can anyone suggest any possible solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hello all, 3 days ago, on June 14, the touchpad on my Twist s230u stopped working. No apparent reason for this (tried to undo windows updates / system restore but did not help). The trackpad is not working also. Another thing - when the computer does a full shutdown and restart from the beginning (i.e. with the possibility of accessing the BIOS with Enter at the first screen), the keyboard is not working. I have to power the computer down once more and restart it. I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I tried to reinstall the new synaptic drivers but it did not help. Thank you in advance for your ansers. Cy

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

Howdy, so I work in the IT department at my university and we are currently testing the W540 for the incomin freshmen. I know that I have the backlit model (04Y2465 - Backlit KBD US English Liteon- Secondary), yet the backlight for the keyboard does not work. I can see the icons appear on the screen when I use fn + space, but it makes no difference. I have a new W540, and the microphone mute button does not work properly. When I press fn+f4. the red LED turns on, the slashed out microphone appears on the screen, and the volume settings for both the "Microphone" and "External Mic" are muted in Windows. However, audio from the microphones still capture audio, and it can be recorded on applications like Audacity and Skype. Manually muting the microhphones via the Sound dialog in Windows has the same effect. The LED and OSD come on, but the microphone does not stop recording. As of now, I have found no way to mute the microphone outside of muting sound input in each individual applicaton.

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo B580 59-339463 (i5 3210m Ivy Bridge)  laptop, installed Win7, installed all drivers on the dvd (including the 3 wlan drivers - intel/realte/broadcom - not sure this was a smart move) only to find that I am unable to connect usign the wifi. I've been browsing round the web for the past 2 hours, but nothing seemed to help.WiFi is turned on (in BIOS, in device manager, in adaptor settings in fn+f5) The WiFi connections just don't show up in the list of network connections When diagnosing the WiFI connection I receive a message informing me that the "Wireless adapter is experieincing problems" and then this message: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter." Intel ProSet/WiFi tools -> Diagnostics -> Hardware Test FAILED. The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled                                                                         Software Test PASSED Since i'm rather new at all this, never having owned a laptop before, I've completely ran out of ideas. So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

I have a Samsung R580 laptop and the trackpad button doesn't work quite right. The button is a single piece button. The right clicking works just fine, but when I try to left click, it doesn't always work. I'll have to press really hard to get it to work. This has only started the last couple of weeks. I know that I probably shouldn't, but I take a thin knife and stick it in the crack surrounding the button and slide it back and forth a few times. This seems to fix the button momentarily, but only for a few seconds. After which, it goes right back to hardly working. I have no idea of what's wrong. I can use a mouse, but it's much more convienient to use the trackpad button. I can also use the trackpad it's self to tap which will do the same thing as clicking the button, but I keep clicking things I don't want to. Any ideas ? I don't know that the keyboard being dirty is causing it, as every other button works perfectly.

Answer:Trackpad Button Doesn't Work Properly

It sounds like you might actually need a trackpad repair or replacement. Are you still under warranty?

I cannot seem to get my 22" Acer X221w monitor to work through the w540 thunderbold port. I've tried two different mini display port to DVI-D Active dongles.  On one of the dongles, I got a video signal through however, even though the display driver was set to 1680 x 1050, the monitor said it was actually receiving 1932 x 1050 which meant that the picture was warped and cut off the left side of the screen.  The other dongle won't show anything at all. Both dongles worked with DVI monitors at the store whose native resolutions were 1920 x 1080. I could even get 1024 x 768 to display on those monitors.  Is there a different kind of dongle I need to get? I also have a w520 with a full size display port++ connector. These 1680 x 1050 monitors work just fine with a full size display port to DVI-D active dongle. However, my mini display port to DVI-D active dongles came with a mini display port to full size display port adapter too.  I can't get either of the two new dongles to work even with the full size display port... so it's got to be the dongles right?

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All. I have an Acer ES1-111M.  Ever since I bought it it has displayed trackpad isues. These include:Trackpad freezing and being unresponsive.Trackpad freezing and only works again pressing FN and the trackpad ON/OFF key, to only freeze again later. This happens in Windows 8.1 that it came with and Windows 10 that it has been upgraded too. It has been taken to two different Acer service centres, looked at, trackpad replaced, works fine for a bit, then stops and displays issues above.I have tried numerous drivers and driver roll-backs, still no solution. Now, I am thinking, what if the CPU or RAM gets so overloaded that that is the reason the mouse just freezes, how could I even test if this is the case?  I don't do anything intensive on my laptop, just web browsing and Facebook but it's the only other thing I can think of.What are the latest Windows 10 trackpad drivers for this model? Using a USB mouse used to work, now, when I plug in the USB dongle, it doesn't even get recognised by a clean OS installation.  All other USB devices work fine.  It's like the laptop just doesn't want to have a working mouse of any kind. Can anyone help me?  If I take it an Acer Service Center (Bangkok) they will just tell me some rubbish like Windows 10 is not compatible (the last reason they said was the cause of this) but it clearly isn't the case.  Many thanks. Ian

I am posting to this forum looking for a solution to this ridiculous problem of computer not waking up (monitor-wise) when it goes to sleep.  To recreate the issue I merely walk away from computer for 10 minutes or so, come back, monitor is dark.  If I hit any key the other 2 attached montors awake but the monitor on the W540 does not.  I am sick and tired of having to reboot to get it to wake. What I've done over past two months to fix this: Tried many of the suggestions here including going back to previous "Intel" driversTried the newest Bios update  This is a nagging and (in my opion) absolutley unacceptable problem to have.  It's like stepping back 15 years to the infancy stages of laptops.  I don't get it doesn't Lenovo have a QA department?  Obvisouly not. I hate to lump in mulitple problems and won't but I also want to say the touch pad is absolutely a failure.  These two problems make the W540 more of a burden than a help.  As it is now I would never recommend a Lenovo to anyone.   Wake up Lenovo, how many posts like these do you have to see and not do anything?

All - any help here would be greatly appreciated.  I have a T400 2765-P3U.  Love the system, but it has some oddities.  If I join our company's domain, the system will lose the domain trust typically within 3 days.  At first I thought it was a problem with my domain, but after extensive troubleshooting it boils down to a problem on the laptop.  OK, no big deal, I reload the system.  Same problem a couple of days later.  I take if off the domain and it works fine.  I then decide to set up Bitlocker drive encryption.  It works until I reboot, after which it tells me that the system startup info has changed, and then I have to manually enter the huge Bitlocker key to make it work.It appears to me that something is going on with the hardware, maybe changing the GUID or something, but there is no evidence of this - everything works fine on a workgroup and un-encrypted.  Any ideas?  I'm pretty much at my wits end here...

Answer:T400 Changes System Info - Bitlocker doesn't work, loses domain trust, etc.

For the bitlocker aspect,  make sure the hard drive is the first bootable device. For the domain trust,   I presume a GPO is enforced, so try an account that isGPO exempt. Terry

My fully updated Windows 8.1 notebook suddenly will not show any wifi connections when I click on the icon in the system tray (it shows "No Connections are Available", although it is connected, and I can surf and browse normally).

To connect to a new network, I have to manually enter the details of the network, and then it connects. This is something new, since previously it would show all the available networks, and allow me to make a selection (which is normal). What setting could have flipped do enable the above situation?

Thanks

Answer:Wifi suddenly doesn't show available network connections

Hi,

I have faced once situation when one of the wifi network (ssid) disappeared from the available networks. Manual reinstalation of wifi nic drivers helped. I had to use drivers directly from laptop's vendor. Those from windows update didn't work properly.

Hi A week or so ago I ran Lenovo System Update, which prompted me to update the drivers for my WiFi card (Intel 6200-AGN). After the update Access Connections can no longer recognize the card. Windows still connects automatically to wireless networks through the built-in software, but Access Connections not working is really bothering me. I've tried rolling back the wireless drivers (my current version is now 14.3.0.6, dated 10/27 2011), but with no luck. As far as I can see, there have been no updates to Access Connections for quite a while (it's hard to tell due to system update itself recently being updated), but is it worth a try uninstalling it and reinstalling an older version? My current version is 5.97, oddly the version listed on the support page for the x201-3626 is 5.62, but all my Lenovo software comes from Lenovo System Update. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hi Guys, I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop. This is the second time I have had issues with the WiFi dropping out frequently.  The first time was when I first downloaded windows 10 - I downloaded a new driver from the Lenovo website and everything worked perfectly.  The last couple of months it has been playing up again. My phone and any other devices will be connected to the internet however my laptop will repeatedly disconnect from the internet, this happens a ridiculous amount of times everyday - and it's not just my home wifi! Im currently at my university library and it does the same thing. It just drops out randomly and says "not connected - no connects are available" I have to keep restarting my laptop for it to reconnect to the internet (I know that's probably not the best thing to do but it's the only thing that sometimes works). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software, I've scanned for hardware changes and nothing comes up?? Has anyone got any ideas on anything else I could try?  Thank you all!

I got me a new Lenovo Flex 2-14 with Windows 8.1 on it yesterday, but I can't connect to my wifi network. In the tray there's always the red cross (not the yellow symbol) and no network is found at all.I read that a lot of users experience this, so I tried multiple drivers but none of them works. I tried the one pre-installed on the D drive, the newest one from the Lenovo website and also some that I found via Google when I searched for my wifi-adapter (it's a Realtek RTL8723BE). But as I said, no driver works.Does anybody have an idea what I could do? It's a completely new notebook, so I didn't change any settings. Thank you!

Hello forum people,

I have the following problem on my Toshiba Satellite R850 running Win7 64bit: I decided to change the wireless adapter so I can connect to the 5GHz wifi network my router provides which wasnt possible on the Atheros wireless adapter it came with. I changed it to a Intel Wireless AC 3160- the physical change went quick and without problems and while the adapter is basically working now the problem I'm facing now is that the F8-hotkey function to de-/activate the Wifi and Bluetooth is no longer working. When I press the hotkey button all the different hotkey combinations show up on the upper part of the screen, but now there's only F1-F7 and F9, F8 just went missing. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Thanks in advance and take care

I've been having a touch time trying to get my wireless laptops connected to my netgear routher. Here is what I'm using:

Netgear MR814v3 (latest firmware Version 5.4_06)
Under wireless settings I have channel 6
WEP -- 128bit encryption and negotiation is on Open System. (I've tried automatic and shared as well)
You can generate a passphrase and then get 4 26 character strings to use as your network key. I've used each of them.

Both the wired and wireless MACs are in the MAC access list and it is currently disabled right now.

Here is the scenario. Router works, wireless works without the encrytion. The DHCP server assigns the appropriate address to my labtop using the wireless connection when all security (WEP, 64, 128 or WPA is disabled)

Once I enable the encryption I set up my laptop with the appropriate channel, and enter in the 26 character string. The SSID is broadcasted, I can see the network. The laptop connects wirelessly, goes throught he "Aquire addrees" and always comes back with the lamo 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address. We all know this means there was a problem negociating the IP address.

I've also taken the 26 letter key, copied it to notepad, saved it onto a flash drive from wired computer connected to the router. Then used the EXACT character string that is in the router just to make sure there are no thick fingers.

Frankly, I'm not sure why I can connect to the router but always get the... Read more

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Lenovo ThinkPad PS/2 keyboard

This is very exasperating. I would appreciate some help in stopping this problem permanently, thanks.

Hi I am new here and I need help. I can normally figure out things for myself but this problem has got me stumped. I have an issue with the modem(s) I am using. My network has a modem (from AT&T uverse ) with a Cisco router connected to it through a wired connection and everything in the house connected wirelessly to it except my desktop. Yesterday I was disconnected from the Internet but all the lights on the modem were still green. I lost both wired and wireless connection. I tried the normal reset of the modem and it didn't help. All lights green. No internet connection. So I tried to connect to the wireless signal from the modem and I was able to connect to the Internet. So logic would dictate that if the wireless signal in the modem works and anything connected through wires ( wireless router, desktop) doesn't, then the modem would be bad. So I just happen to have another modem, exact same make and model. I connect it thinking this would surely fix the problem and it's the same problem, nothing is changed. Wireless works, wired doesn't. So now I'm stumped. I don't know what else it could be. It might be possible both modems are bad and have the same problem since it's the same brand and model but I want to explore all possibilities before I call AT&T and deal with their lousy service.

So here is my story. A couple days ago I awoke to having no internet access over any devices connected through Ethernet or Wifi. My first thought was it was just a fluke and to power cycle my router and modem. After doing so I still got nothing. Called up my ISP thinking that the internet might be down due to a winter storm we had that night. They said that it wasn't. They sent signals to my modem and everything appeared to be working properly.

My equipment then:

Arris SB6141
Asus RT-AC3200

So I decided to make a run to Best Buy (not my first choice but convenient) to pick up a new cable modem. Purchased a Arris SB6190. Got it home, called up ISP (Spectrum) and had them provision it. Everything went smooth. Well now I was getting internet but only over WiFi. So now I'm thinking that my router bit the dust. Took another trip to Best Buy and purchased a Linksys EA9500 router. Got home, hooked it all up, same exact thing. Wifi works but everything connected through Ethernet has no connection.

Hi Team, When I am using my laptop while sitting on a couch, it seems to get warm really easily and then the touchpad seems to stop working. It operates very funny and tries to change the screen size. I have to reset the Synaptics pointing devices everytime it hangs. If I keep it on a stand or hard cover, then it seems to work better and it barely hangs. Would you know as to why that happens frequently as I travel a lot and can't find a support to put in underneath everytime. Thanks for your help. Regards Sidd

Anyway on my Acer something happened after i bought, Acer doesn't do anyhting about it, and its a major problem they have. Either there was a windows update somewhere that stopped my Touchpad from working. Is there a way to find out what touchpad i have inside. Or does someone have an idea on how to fix this. I am also using windows 8.1

I don't get why my touchpad doesn't work when I unplug or turn off my mouse. I found all the settings. I realize I may get an answer I don't want. Download drivers etc..

I can live with this problem (unless I suddenly don't have my other laptop), especially after spending the night searching for, downloading and installing drivers for my other laptop. I was surprised to find that the windows 7 professional (my home machine is windows 7 home) didn't provide me with network and other drivers. I wasn't seeing any wireless connections. Initially I was using an internet stick and the problem wasn't visible. I take that machine out with me. I had it home last night and that's when I found the problem. And trying to get that touchpad driver had me wondering about this one. I don't use my laptop keyboard on my home machine, preferring a natural contour full keyboard I plug in, so I never deal with the touchpad, otherwise I'd be hitting it all the time, which I used to do. I am a mouse guy. If I had to to take this machine out, the touchpad thing would drive me nuts. Any thoughts?

Answer:Touchpad doesn't work

Hi Aarby,

Some computers have keyboard shortcuts which could be a separate key on the keypad or a combination of the Fn + any other Function key depending on the system model for enabling or disabling the touchpad. Since you have not mentioned the system model of your computer, some steps you may try are:

1.Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings>Click Enable (if disabled).

2.Check under Mouse Properties in Control Panel>Hardware>Mouse. There may be a check-box for Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present. If this is checked and you connect an external mouse to your laptop, the touchpad may be disabled.

Additionally, we recommend you check the system manual or try some of the steps mentioned in the link below.

Hope this helps resolve the issue. Please reply if you have further queries.

Hello everyone.

Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my MSI GE600. At first, the touchpad behaved the way it should. But now, it is not even detected. I rebooted the laptop and it worked again. Most of the time it doesn?t work though.

I have installed the Elantech driver of the MSI site, so I?d like to know what you think the problem is and how to fix it.

Thank you so much in advance.

Answer:Touchpad often doesn't work

I have recently dealt with this same issue on an Asus laptop. The touchpad does not function correctly, but the issue is sporadic. A USB mouse works fine.

The first thing I needed to determine was if this was a hardware problem or a software problem (OS or Drivers).

So what I did was wait until the touchpad stopped working and then rebooted with a Linux Ubuntu USB stick connected. Booting into Ubuntu I found the touchpad still did not respond. This told me that the problem was hardware. The touchpad has to be replaced.

So that is what I would suggest. You need to know what kind of problem you are dealing with so you know in which direction to focus your efforts.

I've got a VAIO VGN FE11M.
My touchpad doesn't work since yesterday.
It's really weird because I checked it in my device manager and it says that everything is okay.
Now I've reinstalled my whole computer because I thought that it doesn't work because of the drivers.
It still doesn't work.

Can anyone help me?

Note to Admin: I think this is the operating system itself, as I remember there have been updates inbetween (and after). If this is some sort of virus, I apologize and please move to appropriate thread.

On my HP PC with windows 8.1 I've always been able to just log in. The last 2 days though, the touchpad/keyboard won't react (so I can't insert my password) when I first start the computer. When I then command "restart" (with the mouse, which does work), I get the same loginscreen but this time I can use my touchpad/keyboard.

So this problem is manageble (just always restart after just havign started the computer ), but I would like to understand why it goes wrong at the initial start up. Any ideas?

Hi, Probably the question is stupid, but I give a try. In Settings, Devices, Mouse and Touchpad do you have the setting "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" off?If yes, try to disconnect all the USB devices from your PC and try to see if the touchpad is working. If not try to see if FN+F7 will help, but I don't really expect to help. Also, you could try to turn off the mentioned settings. Not the last, in device manager isn't your touchpad by mistake disabled or has a yellow exclamation mark?

After spending 24 hours on this issue (and installing Windows 10 three times), I think I've figured out a root cause, but the only solution I found to fix it was a FULL Windows 10 install from DVD... It seems the root cause for me was the Array SSL VPN client. Apparently it installs some kind of low level driver this is incompatible with Windows 10, and once installed can not be un-installed. I had the Array SSL VPN client installed on Windows 7 prior to the upgrade, and specifically I had the client configured to "AUTO CONNECT" to the VPN server on windows start-up (I believe this is the culprit). The install of Windows 10 completed successfully, but the first time I rebooted after the install, ALL networking was disabled. The devices showed correctly in the Device Manager, but they showed as "disabled" in the adapter panel. Every time I would enable them they would instantly be disabled again. I tried uninstalling the drivers, and re-installing them, all to no avail, so I did a fresh install on a re-partitioned/formatted hard-drive and everything worked great, but when I reinstalled the Array SSL VPN client, all networking was once again totally disabled. I tried all methods to restore networking, even going through the system restore process. The only way I was able to restore networking was to again do a full repartition/format and install of Windows 10. I'm posting this, because I found no matching information on any searches regarding this specific problem.&nb... Read more

My Problem
I have 2 problems with my computer, both of which require me to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to hard reboot (and I wait 30 seconds before turning it back on because I heard that was good somewhere...). My computer either:

A) randomly loses signal to the monitor, resulting in the monitor going to sleep while my computer is still on. When this happens, audio from iTunes continues to play normally, but I cannot pause it or control the volume which I can usually do from my keyboard. This leads me to believe that I have absolutely no control over my computer when my computer loses signal with the monitor. This can happen at any time... when I'm playing a videogame, browsing the internet, or when the computer is locked and I'm not using it at all.

B) randomly freezes. This locks up the computer completely and I am unable to move my mouse or control anything. I don't know if audio continues to play because this hasn't occurred while I've been listening to something on iTun... Read more

This is my motherboard
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-P55M-UD2 (rev. 1.0)
though I'm not sure if mine is rev 1.0 or rev 1.1

I'm hoping that the issue isn't the CPU, Graphics Card, or Hard Drive, as those would cost me the most trouble / money.

Could it be an issue with the BIOS? I don't really know what that is or how it works.

Hey guys,

I just got the Lenovo Y500 a few months ago and it came with the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.

The WiFi on this laptop kept on disconnecting after a while of use, at first I thought it was the laptop's problem but after I got a replacement because of a depixel on my screen the problem still occurs - the WiFi is unstable sometimes and the connection just disappears. I tried this with other Wifi connections at my University and home and friend's house but it still kept on disconnecting after a while.

Can anyone please give me a solution to this problem? I've already downloaded and installed the latest drivers.

Symptoms of this problem:
1. Disconnects after a while, it shows network available but I cannot connect to them
2. Sometimes, it doesn't show any network (i.e all my WiFi connections are not visible)
3. I cannot restart my WiFi because I go into Windows 8 "Change pc settings" and it says I cannot turn off my WiFi

This problem is really bugging me because every time this happens I have to restart my laptop!

I would really appreciate your help!

There are many possibilities to your problem. To jumpstart, examine the settings of your wifi card (based on recommended setup) and the router's settings. They should match.

Lenovo Access Connections app can be a real pain - it keeps disabling your wired connection whenever wifi is near.  Often I need both - public wifi and secure LAN.  To disable the disabling, so to speak, fire up "Access Connections" app, switch to Advanced, to to the "Location Profiles" tab, edit all your profiles and untick "disconnnect from the network when switching to a different location".

I've done  a search on both the internet and on here and all I'm seeing is variations on "go to device manage and click here" at least part of which I cannot do as my touchpad isn't working.......

How can I fix this? Without having to navigate to areas I can only get to by using my touchpad.....

I got this laptop in 2014 (It had windows 8 or 8.1 on it at the time ofc) Then I upgraded to windows 10 and for about a year it was fine but then it broke for unrelated reasons. Not hardware reasons though. And I forgot about it, then I decided to install Linux mint to it and it worked fine. Then I decide to go back to windows 10 and the touchpad didn't work. So I went to linux again. Repeat x5 and now I'm at #6 and it still doesn't work! And it works on linux perfectly!

I have an Ideapad Z580 Windows 7. The touchpad isn't working. I installed the driver restarted the laptop and it works fine. When I close the laptop or shut it down, and turn it back on, the touchpad completely stops working. I've tried the US and the chinese driver, the Intelligent touchpad dirver. Everything else works but the touchpad. I usually stick with HP. But I saw Lenovo in Transformers and said why not it's good enough for them. I don't know what to do now. So frustrated.

Hi glentastic,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

Am sorry to hear about your issue,

I?d like to ask you to press on FN + F6 together to make sure that the touchpad is enabled if still the same,

Maybe you can try to start the recovery for the system through the one key recovery button which is going to return the machine back to the initial state like a new machine,

But please take a backup from your data before starting in the recovery and please check the below link for the One key recovery:

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Hello! So yesterday morning my laptop completely shut down and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I had things to do, so I left it. When I came home, I opened it up and found out that the entire thing had been updated to Windows 10, and I don't know how since I never gave permission. Anyways, I figured there was nothing I could do so I got over it. But as the day went on, I discovered that my touchpad doesn't work whatsoever. I searched this problem and heard that I'm supposed to tick scrolling off in settings. Since then, two finger scrolling works, but NOTHING ELSE (even though all the boxes are ticked). This is very frustrating because I now can only use my laptop with a mouse, which means it's basically a computer for the time being. Please help! Thank you!

Answer:Satellite M40: Touchpad doesn´t work

Hi,

if your touchpad is not shown in device manager there are two possibilities. If there is shown an unknown device you have to reinstall the driver. If not there must be a hardware problem that has to be solved by service.

My problem is that ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 (and chose not to keep your pre-installed mess and unwanted antivirus software) I haven't been able to get my touchpad working.  EDIT:It seems to me that your search function for the site was bugged, the first time I used your tool to copy and paste my Serial Number the tool wouldn't find the model. As of now, I still don't get any search results when searching for "ES1-331" on the site (using Google Chrome). It's extremely frustrating that a simple search for the model doesn't show up any results, and that in some cases you are directed to a "buying" page, instead of a support/drivers page. I'm still confused as to how the site works, fix this please! I've already done the following:-Windows Update (Up to date)-Fn+F7 hotkey to enable/disable the touchpad Regardless, I've managed to install the touchpad drivers for Windows 10 before the download site went down. Installed for the correct OS (Windows 10 x64) rebooted, tried Fn+F7 combination, touchpad still didn't work. EDIT2: I finally managed to get it working, I still don't know exactly what I needed, but I installed a few of the drivers I found on the site for the model. Drivers found at www.acer.se/ac/sv/SE/content/drivers/-;YOURSERIALNUMBERHERE For those with the same issue, try installing both Touchpad drivers (Elantech and synaptics) as well as the IO, Chipset, TXE drivers. Make sure you have all the updates from Windows updat... Read more

What can be the problem?

Answer:Satellite C70-B - Touchpad doesn't work

Hello

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem is but I cannot imagine that touchpad is defective after short period of time. Although, everything is possible.

Please check in device manager if touchpad is properly installed and listed there.
If there is everything OK, be sure touchpad is enabled properly. Check please FN+F5 key combination.

I have a HP 15-ay083TU laptop with Windows 10.The right click button on my touchpad has suddenly stopped working.I checked the synaptics touchpad settings and the two finger scrolling feature is enabled.

Answer:Right click doesn't work on touchpad

Welcome to the TenForums

First off create a restore point.

Within the settings for Synaptics, at least on mine, there is a restore all defaults, have you tried this. To isolate it is a Touchpad issue, and not something in Windows, do you have access to a mouse. Do right clicks work on a mouse?

If you go to device manager and find your device and look at driver, is the Roll Back driver greyed out. If so you can't roll back but if it is enabled you might want to try rolling back.

As there were quite a few errors in the OS I formatted my hard disk and installed WXP Prof, installed all the drivers but the touch pad still ain't working. I am very confused as before and after formatting the pointer moves a little when I use the touch pad at the beginning of start up???

The best check is to install operating system with original Toshiba recovery image and test it with ?factory settings?. In this case touchpad should work properly. If not contact the service and let them check your notebook.

I have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection.

First router is connected to modem, that's an Actiontec router that's wireless. Second router is a D-link DI 624 wireless router. All the computers are connected "Wired", only wireless devices are the laptop(which is connected wireless to Router 1), and Wii(which is connected wireless to Router 2). Router 2 is a brand new router btw, and I upgraded the firmware on it.

So here's how my connection is setup: Internet > Modem > Router 1 > Router 2 > This computer. If I simply directly connect this computer to Router 1(instead of connecting it to Router 2), the disconnections doesn't happen.

Now at first I had only one router. I installed a second router by simply shutting off comp, plugging a network cable from router 1 to router 2, then simply plugging an additional cable from router 2 to my computer.

I am not sure if I set up 2 routers correctly but all I know is that it works fine "sometimes", the wireless connection(from the second router) always seems to work but the wired connection from Router 2 to this comp.
The intervals varies, some days it may be 3 minutes between each disconnection and reconnection(which isn't too annoying), some days it may be 15 seconds(extremely annoying). Sometimes the disconnections do not happen at all.

Here's what I've tried:
1. I've tried rebooting the router, doesn't fix problem.

Answer:Have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection

Some things you can try here.
Change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

For multiple routers, I also suggest this configuration.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and nei... Read more
