I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Hdd Caddy for bay adapte

which model caddy did you get? Also, when you say it doesn't recognise it, does the bios refuse to recognise it too?

The only ways I can think that could be the case are that the adapter is not plugged in, is not powered on, or is dead (defective).

I have read multiple articles about HP laptops with wireless adapters not being able to detect 5GHz wirless networks and most state that it's because they're a "1x1" or single-antenna adapter. They say that if the adapter has the "802.11 a/b/g/n" distinction, then it should be able to see the 5GHz network?  The specs on my device show that the adapter is as follows, so I'm not sure if there may be an updated driver:Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter I've searched the HP Support site and cannot find any driver/firmware updates for this notebook...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:HP G72 with Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapte...

Hi That is very interesting. I did not know that the 4313 ever had a wireless A designation. The labeling in the device manager must be incorrect, because the specs for the card directly from the manufacturer indicate it is a single band 2.4 GHz card only. https://www.broadcom.com/products/wireless-connectivity/wireless-lan/bcm4313 If it were dual band, the card would see the 5.0 GHz band, and connect if you have the band set to mixed mode (A/N). My old Intel A/B/G cards can all 'see' the 5.0 GHz band, but can't connect to it because I have that frequency set to N only.

Laptop: compaq presario cq57Monitor: dell x3782 I dropped my laptop a few years ago, and the screen is now displaying something similar to the link below:http://c8.alamy.com/comp/C2AF0D/dropped-laptop-causing-damage-to-casing-and-breaking-lcd-screen-C2AF... This laptop has a VGA port, but no HDMI port. The laptop seems to be turning on fine. I simply can't see the screen. It turns out that the monitor I have will not display the computer. It states that there is no cable until I connect the VGA to the laptop and then the monitor turns off and the button turns orange.  Any ideas as to what I am doing incorrectly? I've tried hitting F4 with and without hitting the right arrow three times, and it doesn't change anything. Is it possible to use an adapter to display the VGA on HDMI? Are the ?injuries? internal and far more serious than the LCD screen issue? Are the laptop and monitor incompatible?  Any ideas as to what I am able to do without replacing the screen? I don't want to spend a large amount of money on something I likely won't use if I am able to retrieve the information I need to from the laptop. Thank you in advance! - Completely Lost and Confused

Hello, I currently have a Lenovo G510 laptop. i am running windows 10 on it since it came out last year.  but after updating to the anniversary update in August I have been having various issues with the wireless connection.  the issues seem to come up when waking the laptop up from standby/sleep mode.  issues seem to be the wireless adapter can become disabled completely, the wireless card can't find any wireless networks, or after waking from standby/sleep mode the wireless connection has slowed down.  i have found a workaround by going into device manager and disabling and then reenableing the wireless adapter. I have updated to the latest drivers for the broadcom 802.11n via windows update and tried uninstalling it completly and reinstalling it but the issue remains is there anything lenovo or anyone can recommend or have a fix for this issue? thank you

Hello, I recently purchased an Acer Aspire V15 Nitro VN7-591G-74SK. It runs Windows 8.1 64-bit. It has the Atheros AR5BWB222 network adapter. I have a roughly 60Mb/s Internet connection, but I'm only getting about 1.0Mb/s download in some areas of my house. Basically, download speed takes a drastic dive after I leave the room with my router in it. Barriers and distance seem to be a problem for either the software or hardware in this computer because all the other devices in my house get at least 10-25 Mb/s at any given location in my house whereas mine is <3.0 Mb/s in any room except directly next to the router (where I get 50-60 Mb/s). I'm using speedtest.net as a test (I know it's not ideal but it's easy to use and seems to represent how horribly slow the connection is in those other rooms) to determine this. I've seen this problem for this network adapter across many forums, but none of the answers have worked for me. I've reinstalled the drivers several times. I reinstalled Windows. I tried changing the network channel on my router. My current driver for the network adapter is 10.0.0.298. I installed this from the unofficial Atheros website (atheros.cz). However, the drivers from the Acer website are older versions, and the laptop came with 10.0.0.288, none of which work any better. I've also changed the power settings to maximize wireless performance regardless of power state (battery or plugged in). This is a last effort on my part before I either return the laptop o... cdugan2015,

I am sorry to hear that you are getting poor wireless performance when you leave the same room as your router. I can only suggest trying another network and seeing if the symptoms are the same. I understand you have other devices that are not affected. If the problem is persistent, I would recommend contacting our technical support as our repair team may be able to resolve this problem.

If that does not fix it, it could be that the hardware is having issues.

Okay, it's now 13 Sep 2015 and I went around in circles to figure this out. I saw the same issues, to the point of knowing the driver was installed bu tthe Netgear tools never enable the WNDA3100v2, and one cannot manually enable it either. Also tried a USB A6200 device, with the same results. However, I did make this work, and it's kind of simple in my case. I was running the free Zone Labs Firewall & A/V package. And who's A/V package do they use you ask? Kaspersky! Kaspersky has a known issue with allowing proper installation of Netgear USB wireless adapters. So I followed the recommended guidense of a full uninstall of any Netgear WNDA3100v2 and A6200 drivers and software. Then a full uninstall of Zone Labs tools, reboot the computer, then reinstalled the WNDA3100v2 software. Followed the directions, recognition of the USB WiFi adapter was instant. Changed the device setting for being Enabled to auto connect if wired adapter is not connected, and here we are fully functional.Of course now I need to reinstall Zone Labs software, which according to the write up I read at Zome Labs, it should all just work now.Try this method if nothing else seems to work.

Question: Caddy

I need to transfer contents of an IDE hard-drive to a Sata machine. I have been told I need a caddy!. I confess I have no idea what this is.Would someone be kind enough to explain what I need and how to get it to work?.Many thanks

Answer:Caddy

This is a IDE caddy that you put your Hard Drive into. click hereThe Jumper on your Drive as to be set to Master for it to work, you then just plug it into a USB port for it to load. Do not just pull it out when you have done as this can damage the drive. In lower Task Bard near clock you will see a Icon with a Green arrow right click on this to safely remove. If you have problems shutting it down, power your PC down then remove the plug before restarting PC

Hello,
I'm having problems with my WD blue 1TB HDD (which came originally with the laptop) being recognized using it in CD-ROM caddy.
I bought Dell Inspiron 17 5767 like a month ago, and of course I want to upgrade it with SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 256 GB), and then use original HDD instead of CD-ROM.
I already read the post: en.community.dell.com/.../19536697
I have Salcar caddy, which is proven good, already in previous 2 laptops, one HP and one Dell. Also the current one with this HDD was tested in older Dell and the disk is recognized and works superb. So from this I can conclude, the caddy and the disk are completely fine, something must be wrong on my new Dell side.
I upgraded BIOS (to 1.09), SATA and other drivers yesterday ... nothing changes.
The OS (on the SSD) is original as got from Dell, as the data was migrated with the Samsung utility from original HDD to SSD. Then HDD was formatted, currently has only one partition.
In BIOS I disabled Virtual machine and LAN boot settings, as they are not needed. Also, LPM is disabled, as suggested in other post. But still no change.
The HDD in caddy is not recognized in BIOS, nor Windows, nor Disk Management, nor CMD (diskpart).
I also tried to create smaller partition, about 850 GB, still not recognized. I didn't try with smaller than 750 GB, maybe should do this, but I don't believe this is a problem.
I bet there are other users out there with the same problems - did anyone got this worki... Read more

Question: M58 HDD Caddy

Hi, I want to fit a second HDD to an M58p small form factor (or whatever these small ones are called!) in place of the optical drive. I assume that Lenovo do a bracket kit for this, but I can't seem to find any part numbers etc... Anyone out there shed any light on this? Many Thanks, Mike

Answer:M58 HDD Caddy

Fitting a HDD into an optical drive bay can be accomplished with an inexpensive 3.5"--> 5.25" conversion kit available anywhere (Like the one HERE). I think Lenovo has a bracket for that but it would be really expensive. The hole for the optical drive can only be covered up by a blank bezel, that's going to be the tough part to find, if it is an issue for you at all.

Question: 8.1 from hd caddy

Hello all,

So I find myself in an odd situation. I upgraded form xp to windows 8.1 on an old laptop I had. Since then, this laptops video card has started to go. So what I am looking to do is to take the hd from that pc, put it in a hardrive caddy, and boot from that on a different computer. For certain reasons I need to retain both OS's.

My question is this. How will Microsoft deal with the licensing in this situation. I attempted this and got a notification that I will need to reactivate windows, but does this count as a second pc in their eyes? Or can I make the call and just say that the hardware has changed.

another note, Ideally I would like to move between both computers without re licensing, but I'm assuming this might not be possible.

Hi everyone, I recently purchased the Z50-70 laptop and so far I love it! I feel it could be a little bit faster with a solid state drive, however.  I have a 250GB 840 Evo I can throw in (with a caddy for the 1TB HDD that's already installed), but from what I've researched I can't have a 1TB HDD in the CD drive slot, but I'd rather not put the SSD there, because it wouldn't perform at full speed and would completely defeat the purpose of that drive.  I guess what I'm asking for is the maximum capacity the CD drive slot will allow for a HDD caddy? Thanks!Gage Henry

Hello guys,I've got a problem with my caddy (second) HDD in my g6.Before few days i did fresh new installation on brand new ssd (kingston v300 if it does it matter) with windows 10 on it (while installing my second HDD it wasn't in laptop). All seems perfectly fine, works well and so on....after that i decided to put my caddy hdd back in place (instead CDROM of course) and after boot it wasn't there, was unrecognizable from BIOS and from Windows.I tried with few methods to detect it :Computer Manage > Disk Managementfrom disk part in windows promptfrom Device Manager and still the same,it still unseeable.I decide a problem comes from my caddy and change with a new one (this time was with switch ,first one wasn't with it) and still the same - invisible caddy hdd. After that put hdd back in a main socket, and formatted it,try again and...nothing,try and swtich theirs places and still same.Use last version for BIOS and all drivers looks uptodate.Thanks.Best Regards

Answer:HDD in a caddy - am I missing something?

Yes, I'm afraid you are missing something.
The games would need to be installed from the original disk onto her PC in order to run. She wouldn't be able to run MS Word from the disk-in-a-caddy either. If there are documents on that drive, they'd be openable, but would use the software installed on the host machine.

Seriously, I think it is brilliant the way some non English people can communicate in English - this isn't sarcasm - I really mean it.
When a person whose first language isn't English and they write an instruction manual in English about, let's say how to put together a flat pack table or cupboard. At worst it's annoying, at best it's a laugh. Especially when you're watching someone else struggling with it.
But I feel - in view of Health and Safety - there should be a limit as to what kind of instruction manual can be translated in this way. Putting a dowel in a hole where a screw should go, is one thing. Connecting a machine to the mains, then to a PC, when you're not sure if it's the right voltage or you've slid the switch in the correct direction; is a whole different thing altogether!
I think I can speak for most people when I say that seeing or hearing about someone blowing up their PC and being electrocuted in the process; would be just about as far away as anyone can get to being either funny or annoying.
So, before anything even close to this happens to me I'd just like to ask...Does anyone use an all in 1 HDD Docking Caddy? I have just bought one and for what good the 'English' manual is to me, they could have saved their time and money and written it in Chinese? However, the good thing is the manual isn't actually giving general instructions on how to use the caddy. It is in fact telling you how to 'Clone'. Which, luckily for me is not why I got the caddy. Why luc... Read more

I've just fitted a hard drive caddy and put 2nd hd in it.It has a sliding lock at the front which prevents the caddy from being removedand it also incoporates a power switch. The instuctions say the drive can be hot-swapped because releasing the lockcuts off the power supply to the disk in the caddy. If I do this with W98 runningis there likely to be a problem when I put the other disk in?My instinct is to switch the computer off before swapping drives. Any views / experiences on this please?CD

Question: W510 HDD Caddy

Ok, so I have a W510, and ordered a HDD Caddy.  The box that the unit came in has 43N3412 written on it, but the actual Caddy has art number 43N3429.  It's not that big of a deal if they are the same part, but here's my issue... 1.  There is a HUGE gap at the top and bottom of the caddy which makes it look like it was never meant to be installed on this model. 2.  Whenever I carry my laptop sideways with the Bay facing down (going between meeting rooms, etc) the drive disconnects.  In order to see the drive again, I have to put pressure on it as if I am inserting the caddy into my laptop again. So, either this is not the correct caddy that was sent to me, or I have an issue with the case on my laptop in which the "catches" are not doing their job. (This does not happen with the DVD RW that came with the unit). Does anyone have one of these caddies working, and staying connected when you laptop is on its side?  If so, can you verify my part number against yours?  Cheers,Josh

Answer:W510 HDD Caddy

Hi same2you, The 43N3412 is the Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III (Ultrabay Slim 9.5mm) and it's listed under accessories for the W510, but the W510 actually got a bay with the height of 12.7mm. So this would fit perfectly for the W500 that got a bay with the height of 9.5mm, but for the W510 there will be a gap like you describe. I believe the 43N3429 is the sparepart number of the same product. I cannot find a 12.7mm drive bay adapter from Lenovo and i don't think Lenovo ever offered a full-height 12.7mm bay adapter. If they will offer a 12.7mm drive bay adapter because of the new thinkpad models in the close future i don't know. I have seen 12.7mm drive bay adapters from ebay and other places for the T510/W510, but never seen any from Lenovo. If you google for something like "T510 drive bay adapter 12.7mm" you should find it. Whether or not the disconnect issue you describe is correct or not i don't know, but i find it hard to believe that's the way it should work. Since it's listed under accessories for the W510 i would except that it at least work fine with the gap, but i also find it strange that Lenovo doesn't offer a drive bay adapter that fit with the new Thinkpads. Maybe someone else can provide some more info about your disconnect problem, but i don't think Lenovo currently got a 12.7mm drive bay adapter. -gan

I have new pc with win7, and have tried to connect a 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 HDD using caddy, thru USB, so that I can copy old files from it.
An older 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax lus 9 ATA/133 HDD connects, with jumper at cable select.
The Seagate, using same jumper settings, audibly connects, and shows up in disk management as "Dynamic" and "Invalid" below, and doesn't assign a letter.
I haver tried other jumper settings with same result.

Any ideas?

Answer:can't see hdd in caddy on win7

I don't know what caused the disc to be seen as dynamic and or invalid but there seems to be a fix of changing it back to a Basic disk.

Now, you can't use disk management to do it because that method formats the disc destroying all data.

I see two methods for keeping data safe.

1) Using TestDisk http://mypkb.wordpress.com/2007/03/28/how-to-non-destructively-convert-dynamic-disks-to-basic-disks/

2) Using a Hex Editor http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=191006

If you use the hex editor method the trick will be finding the correct disk connected to your computer. It should show as a removable disk which should make it straight froward.

As far as I can tell either method will work. I've navigated both programs so if you have any questions--ask away.

I bought this HDD Caddy from NewModeUS to put an additional drive in the UltraBay adapter. There is a clear plastic layer with a tab on the end over the side of the caddy that has the perforated holes in it. Usually I've seen this tab to help pull the hard drive out of it's slot in a computer but I haven't seen it completely cover the perforated holes of the caddy before.  Anyone know if I should leave the plastic layer on the caddy or not? Hello,I would like to ask for support with following issue. I bought new SSD HDD and wanted to use it as drive with system. So I removed the original HDD (with installed Windows 10 and more partitions) and installed the SSD. After that I installed OS Windows 10. This system works fine on the SSD. I placed my original HDD to a caddy and connected it instead of optical drive. I disabled booting from CD/DVD and USB in BIOS.  After restart, the drive was recognized in BIOS (displayed in boot order), but the laptop won't boot. It got stuck with HP logo and did not boot. I realized that when I disconnect the caddy, Windows boots from SSD. When I connect the caddy again, after a while hdd is visible in My Computer (all partitions, but without correct labels), but none of the partitions is accessible. I thought it can be because there is still instaled OS on the caddy drive. So I booted GParted from USB, removed all partitions and created one with NTFS. After that the drive is not visible in BIOS boot order, but if I connect it after Windows starts, I can see it in Disk Management.Because I'm lost with this issue, I tried some procedures with GParted and TestDisk which caused the drive was in RAW data format. Finally I removed the one partition in GParted and after boot, the drive is marked as Uninitialized and it asks me for initialize where  I can select MBR or GPT format. I tried GPT, but it failed because IO errors. My questions:1. is it even possible to ... Read more

Answer:B50-80 hdd upgrade and caddy

Hi Vendra,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This caddy should do fine
http://hddcaddy.com/en/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/1040-lenovo-b50-hdd-caddy.html

A 9mm caddy should work as your system supports that type of ODD drive

This manual list the ODD support at page 27

Al long as you don't induce any damage while you do the upgrade, your warranty is still valid.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

While I can't speak directly to your question, It is clear that hot-swappability of this 4th drive is not a design feature of the P70.  It is a shame that the nod to manufacturing simplification (read: cost & maintenance requirements reduction) had eliminated a very useful feature. With my W700, I can and do swap-out the optical drive for an HDD often to make speedy backups or access archived data.  It is very convenient and helpful. Alas, some would argue that USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt attachment provides adequate support for these things -- I'd still prefer a unit with the easy swap option--a workstation is supposed to be all about power and flexibility.   By way of example, Samsung realized its design error in eliminating some features and re-introduced user-removable storage to its latest line of phones.

I am waiting for my new HDD drive to arrive for my laptop. The old drive is still working but not too reliable, but good enough for using as a temp storage device. If I put this old HDD into a USB caddy is it possible to copy all the data from this drive to the new drive including the Vista OS, enabling me to run Vista on the new HDD instead of the old drive. I have the recovery discs for the old drive but have been told these will not operate on the new HDD because I didn't purchase from the manufacturer. Any help appreciated.

Answer:USB Caddy to HDD copy

I never heard that a new drive would by design stop the old cd/dvd's from recovering the system. It may be that the disks simply use data on the drive that is hidden in a partition..Most new drives come with clone software. You put the new disk in the caddy and then clone it over. Then swap it. ... would it work (USB 2.0 interface)? I know that for extra storage, a 300Gb disc seems good value - but I get the backup storage (on DVD RW discs) and a DVD copier too - alll in one portable package - but wd this setup of an external caddy containing an internal DVD RW actually work?

Answer:CAddy & Internal DVD RW ...

CDROM caddies are not very common, but in principle I don't see why it shouldn't work. A USB2 enclosure is just a box with an IDE to USB2 adaptor. For a DVD burner, the caddy must be USB2 and your computer must support it as well (firewire would probably be slightly better). USB1 would be too slow to cope with the data transfer required for burning DVD.

Hi, I upgraded 1TB HDD to SSD and it works fine. The problem is after I install the origianl HDD to 2nd HDD caddy, windows 10 does not reconize it. When I tried to connect via SATA USB cable, it worked fine (was able to assign a driver letter to the HDD).  So here's my situation.SSD: All origianl data is migrated (even recoverary D drive) and installed in MB.HDD: formated and installed via 2nd HDD Caddy.BIOS: Updated to most recent version (2.00) In the disk management, it shows as following image: http://imgur.com/3A5f5MJI do see the HDD spaces, but  nothing appears when I right click these empty volumes.C and D drives are from the SSD. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks in advanced!

Hi,I have a T60 and I need to install a new hard drive.  I do not have the HD caddy anymore and I was wondering if I can still properly seat the HD without it.  Also, I have a SATA hard drive replacement - will this work with my T60? Thanks,Peter

Answer:Installing HD in T60 w/o caddy

Welcome to the forum! SATA is the correct drive type, but no hard drive should ever be installed in a ThinkPad without a caddy for a variety of reasons. Spend a few bucks on eBay and do it properly...

I've taken an IDE HD from my now-defunct old Windows ME computer, placed it in an appropriate caddy and connected it to my newish WinXP machine. The intention was to wipe it and use it as an image and data file back-up. At this point it occurred to me that it would be sensible to look at its contents just in case there was anything left on it worth keeping. However, I'm not sure how to do this, or even if it's possible at this stage. It is recognised in the Disk Management window as Disk03 (but no drive letter), with the right capacity and manufacturer's details, but is marked as not initialized and unallocated. Right-clicking brings up a sub-menu with an 'initialize' option, but I thought this was equivalent to re-formatting it so I'm reluctant to try it.It's not vital, as all the important stuff was backed up and transferred to the new computer. But any comments or advice would, as always, be gratefully received.

Answer:Reading old HD in caddy

Have you changed the jumper on the HD from Master to Slave? Also your ME HD may be FAT32 instead of NTFS. Don't know if this might make it unrecognised.

Question: Harddrive Caddy

What is the best way to shut down a USB hard drive caddy? I have a 120gig hardrive in my caddy and am wondering if after I do the safely remove hardware should I then be shutting down the power on my caddy or should I leave it on until I shut down my computer. Also sometimes it will not shut down that way because it says the system is busy and the only way I can shut it down is to turn off the power switch. Could somebody please tell me the safest way to turn on and off this caddy so I don't do harm to my harddrive. Thank you so much.
