Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Network Adapter does not recognize Linksys Wireless Router

Question: Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Network Adapter does not recognize Linksys Wireless Router

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time. It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine. Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter. The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros. However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router. It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address". Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter. Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings? Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops. I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password. I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops. Yet, in one laptop, there is NO PROBLEM while in the other, I can not get the Wireless Adapter to "see" the signal from the Router. To further check this, I have [temporarily] disabled the WEP password, enabled SSID broadcast, and disabled the MAC address restrictions that I put in (so that the system would be totally "open" ) yet the Intel Adapter STILL did not "find" anything. In addition, when I use the "Find WIFI" feature in Access Connections, I find that SOMETIMES the network with SSID is found and sometimes, it will display "unknown network" and not pick up the SSID.This is all very frustrating. If anyone has experience with the Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Adapter, I would appreciate any hints, tricks, ideas, etc.Think you!!!! --ZviMessage Edited by JaneL on 03-09-2009 08:50 AM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Network Adapter does not recognize Linksys Wireless Router

I would like to add some information that I left out that MAY be crucial here.On the NEWER ThinkPad, I am using Access Connections 5.02. At work, the wireless adapter works properly and I am able to use the Intel Adapter. It is only at home where I have the Linksys Router that I have a problem.I also noticed that when I looked at the Wireless Driver Properties, there was NO tab for "wireless" -- which I would have expected to see....Instead there are only TWO tabs... one for "General" and one for "Advanced"... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

,Thanks guys

Answer:Malfunctioning wireless network adapter (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG)

I have similar experience too, but malfunction only happens when I am trying to connect to my school network which is WPA2-enterprise or WPA-enterprise. My wireless seems to work fine at home with WPA-personal. All other laptops work fine (so it is my laptop). The signal is fine because it register 100% strength. Basically, mine works for a few minutes, then it starts malfunctioning (school network only). During malfunction, it cannot detect any wireless network (even those that aren't WPA-enterprise). When it can detect wireless network again, it may or may not be able to reconnect to the school network.

I have tried updating the driver several times.  I am at the most recent version of the driver, 13.3.0.24, and it is still not present as an option.  All I see is EAP-MSCHAPv2 and SmartCard or other certficate.  I do not have any of the Intel ProSet or ThinkAdvantage apps to manage wireless.  I tried to get rid of the vendor cruft.  Was that a mistake?

Answer:Thinkpad T400, Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN Adapter, and Cisco PEAP

Yes, Alharaka. It appears you've uninstalled the Intel ProSet wifi software that enables the wifi card

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

I have problems getting online using my T00 after installing windows 7. The rest of the computers in my network will be affected if my T400 is online. I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. I really need to update the driver as I need to access my wireless network desperately and my T400 cannot allow me to do that. Any ideas?

Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

upgrade the driver.. look for the lastest version of the driver and upgrade it..

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

I Have a Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN, and i was wondering why i am not receiving the draft (N) quality i'm supposed to get i currently own a Belkin N1 Wireless Router.., Please help me with my problem, i also dont have as good connect to my router even though m bro has b/g he gets greater speeds.

Bump, srry i need help, here are the settings.

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

Hey guys, I've been a X61T(tablet) user for over 2 years now and have never had WiFi connection issues, whatsoever. I upgraded to Windows 7 last year and things only got better.  But, today, after uninstalling a program called "Connectify", that basically transforms your laptop into a WiFi hotspot, my Wireless Radio JUST WON'T SWITCH ON! My Wireless Radio switch(that's in front) is on(I pushed it to the right). Up until yesterday, it was working great. I even used my Wireless Network to create a WiFi hotspot using Coonectify. I also deleted it from Connectify because it wasn't working. And then, I just uninstalled Connectify because I didn't see a point in creating a hotspot, when I have a Wireless Router at home. I rebooted my PC and Viola --- WIRELESS RADIO HAS BEEN DEAD! I don't see the green LED for WiFi on the extreme left blinking anymore. Gone!  Went to Device Manager and I didn't see any problems with the Intel WiFi Link 4695 Device driver. I still uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent one. STILL NOT WORKING! I checked the registries to see if I can find any entries from Connectify that may be causing the problem, but Nada! Nothing there as well! I'm feeling pretty downbeat because I got a new Wireless Router yesterday NETGEAR N-150 and not even 24 hours later, I'm back to using ETHERNET cable! I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out here! Thanks.

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I'm having the exact same issues. It's driving me nuts! Have you had any luck in resolving this? I've just tried the latest drivers from Intel and it hasn't fixed it.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

I hope this isn't too dumb of a question:

I recently upgraded to ATT's fastest DSL service, and received their 2WIRE combination Modem/Wireless Router. It is working great with my desktop PC, wireless printer, 2 laptops, and 3 iPhones.

I'm thinking of setting up my old desktop computer (Dell Dimension 4600, Windows XP) for internet TV in the living room.

I have an almost-new D-link DIR-628 wireless router that I used before with the previous SBC DSL modem. Is it possible to set up the DIR-628 as a simple network adapter to use with the old desktop PC? I have seen numerous instruction in this forum for setting up a second router as an access point, but they all seem to require an ethernet connection. I know it might be overkill, but this router is likely to just sit in the box forever.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Randy

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

That TP Link has almost 800 reviews on Amazon and it's almost all four star reviews. The cost of consumer wireless devises has become very affordable. I use those little $5 USB wifi dongles on my Raspberry Pi's and they work great. The box I'm on now has a low cost NetGear USB dongle and the speed and reliability is great. I'd buy it.

I have tried everything. I recently moved out of the parents house and into my new house and upgraded to an N-Router from a G-Router. Now before my PC even starts up it crashes with the blue screen of death. I've isolated the problem to have something to do with the compatibility between my Linksys WRT160N Wireless-N router and my Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI adapter. When I take the computer back to my parents house it works and connects fine to the old network. If I unplug the antenna from the PCI adapter the PC works (no internet.) If I disconnect the power supply from N-Router the PC works fine (no internet.) But if I put the antenna back in or plug the N-router back in it immediately goes from being fine to the blue screen of death. Can anyone help?

Product Info I put in the card and it clicks but it doesn't seem secure in there. It can easily be pulled out. It feels like it's not holding the adapter at all. When I insert it, Vista does not recognize or acknowledge it. Does the Y510 accept only a certain type of network card? Because the click from 'tray' seems strange and unique. The card definitely functions fine because I tried it on a Dell Laptop and it recognizes the card immediately. Do I have to download a certain driver for my Y510 to recognize the Linksys Laptop Adapter? Thanks!Message Edited by fellini on 11-21-2008 09:57 PM

Hi everyone.I have a Thinkpad T22 and when I updated it from Win2000 to XP (SP3) it stopped recognizing my D-Link DWL-650 Wireless Adapter. I`ve already updated the PC Bios, and almost every driver available here at Lenovo support page but nothing happens. The Windows recognize the hardware as"Ethernet Controller" (but the card lights not even turn on) and I can`t find the driver. Then I installed the driver from D-Link site but nothing happens at the end of installation.
The internet "wired" is working fine with no problems at all.Anyone had any issues like this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:T22 doesn`t recognize D-Link DWL-650 Wireless Adapter + WPA problem

Hi. Well, I must tell you guys that after trying 5 different versions of the driver offered on D-Link site, I managed to make the card work. It does recognize my wireless network but can't connect to it because of the encryption. I use WPA but the DWL-650 just shows WEP. And I know it can support WPA because on Windows 2000 it worked just fine. Does anyone knows how to solve this problem? And administrators, should I put this in another thread or I can leave it here? Thanks in advance for any help.

Takenote that you can't just replace the card with the same model number without complying with the indicated fru number. Doing so, will result to a error message at startup. This restriction is popularly called as the whitelist. An alternative to the desired wireless communication between your TV and your unit is to have ChromeCast. You might want to explore this since this is easier compared to the replacement of the wifi card.

I upgraded my T500 to Windows 7 Professional from Vista Business.  Since upgrading, I have been unable to obtain satisfactory WiFi connectivity.  Symptoms are that I cannot stream from either the internet or my local server without experiencing periodic interruptions and/or total drops.  I've tried reinstalling the driver, replacing the WiFi card itself, and adjusting the parameters associated with the adapter card.  Nothing seems to help.  I also own a T61 laptop which I also upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, and I have had no problems with WiFi connectivity on that machine.  It also has an Intel Wifi adapter but a different model.  Both laptops connect to my LAN and the internet through the same D-Link wireless access router. I'm beginning to suspect that the Windows 7 driver for this particular WiFi adapter is flawed.  Has anyone in this forum had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for your comments/assistance.

eGreetings All,

I have a 4 year old Acer Netbook Aspire One D250-1341. Running Windows 7 Starter. It is out of warranty.
About 3 months ago it started dropping the wireless internet connection. It has a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter onboard. (No exclamation mark in the Device Manager). It still connects at close range to my router.

I tried some general adjustments by searching the web - but nothing helped.

So I thought I would try adding an Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN card. There is a slot on the bottom of the netbook where it fits. You just take the cover off and slide it in.
Windows found the card and installed the drivers. It shows up in Device Manager with no exclamation. I manually disabled the Broadcom adapter.
But the Intel 5300 won't find my network.
I went to the Intel web site and ran the Driver Update Utility it searched and found the 5300 and installed the current drivers.
Still no luck connecting.

Maybe this setup won't work at all and I should send the Intel 5300 card back to Amazon for a refund?
I am at a loss.
I have tried searching the web and I can't find anyone that has added a a wireless card to the open slot on the bottom of an Acer D250.

Any ideas? I was hoping to get a stronger and more stable wireless connection.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
Happy Holidays!
Jeri

At intermittent intervals, my Intel PRO/100 M adapter loses link, which post warning to event log. It immediately comes back up (with Link up informational post) and reestablishes connection. My wireless connected computers likewise lost internet connection, resulting in momentary loss of internet connection. Frustratingly, it always interrupts the VPN connection I use for work.

I've updated drivers, etc. Device seems to be working properly except for these frequent (7-8 times per day) interruptions.

Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks

I am not able to connect wireless to the internet. It has been working for years. Then several computers in the house stopped connecting and our xbox 360. After a few weeks the other computers and xbox started working. Our main computer kept internet connection, the one hooked up to the router, but all the wirelss stopped working. Now my wirelss desk top will not connect. I get the networking SSD to come up, but when I click to connect it pings then says not connected. I have re-entered the key several times, tried to set up the home networking again. Was wondering if I uninstall my linksys adapter program and re-install if this will help. Can anyone help me. I do not want to buy a new adapter if I don't need to. What is strange to me is, all the wireless computers stopped working at the same time and one by one the others started to reconnect. I really don't know if I messed things up by trying to run set up wizard several times. Thanks for your help.

i have a pc out in our basement that that has a SB4100 cable modem (Motorola Surfboard) and id like to get the same highspeed in my room which just has dial up so i went out and bought some Liksys products and i followed the tut's that werent difficult, so now i have the router conencted to my cable modem so the internet on the pc in my basement works, and i have the adapter hooked up to my pc in my room. they connected fine and the adapter connected with the router fine as well, they say they have a very good to excellent connection but the problem is when i try to get the pc in my room to something online it tells me that "this cannont be displayed offline."

in the bottom right where it shows my internet connection theres 2 different connection symbols one that shows the Linksys wireless adapter and one that shows my old dial up connection the dial up connection shows as off line and when u put the mouse over it it says it has been disconnected, but the linksys wireless connection symbol says online with a great conenction.

i tried taking the old dial up card out but that didnt do anything (i didnt expect it too) and the same thing came up again.

so the problem is it says im connected to my main modem in the other ... Read more

do this.

Start>run>cmd hit enter
type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes.. hit enter

look for line that says IP address .. it should read 192.168.1.x where x is random number generated by routers dhcp..

also look for the following Default gateway. should be 192.168.1.1 (if you didn't change the routers default ip address)

also look for DNS Servers.. you should have atleast 1 most times 2 listed here.. they will be assigned by your cable provider.

if you do not see something close to the above your router is not allowing wireless internet access.... i have seen this before. you will have to login to the admin console of the router. typically http://192.168.1.1 from a internet explorer window.

then click on the security tab, then go to wireless, and enable wireless internet access.(location may not be exact depending on model of your wireless linksys router)

I'm sorry if this isn't the correct place for this post, please let me know if it's not so I can post under a different subject.

My father has a Windows XP and a Verizon Fios router and a Linksys Wireless Adapter. Sometimes the adapter works and sometimes it doesn't and he is at his wits end. It's hard for me to help him since I only have an iMac.. so my question is: what the heck is going on?!

He says that the icon says he has excellent strength but the webpages won't load, as they say he is not connected to the internet. He tried re-booting the computer and now it doesn't even say the adapter is connected. When he tries the "repair" it says it cannot be repaired because it cannot be disabled. The computer that is connected to the Verizon is working fine, along with the internet.

For reference: I live an hour away from him and have to do this over the phone with him. But, he does know how to work the computer so this is good.

Am planning on buying a wireless router and wire notebook card. In no particular order, here are the two combinations that I am thinking of getting:

Linksys
Linksys SpeedBooster 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router (Model: WRT54GS)
Linksys SpeedBooster 802.11g Wireless Notebook Card (Model: WPC54GS)

D-Link
D-Link RangeBooster N Wireless-N Router (Model: DIR-625)
D-Link Platinum RangeBooster N Wireless-N Notebook Card (Model: DWA-642)

Any opinions? Or suggestions on others that might fit the bill?
Been reading about it, and it seems that the D-Link router is a new draft 802.11n standard router that is also backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Anandtech.com has a review of the D-Link router here. Also found a blog entry about the D-Link router.

Found a PC Mag review of the Linksys router here, but it was written in 2004!!

User reviews aren't terrible helpful since there are both complaints and praises. And people are more likely to review a product that they have problems with.

The D-Link router may be compatible with the final 802.11n standard which is supposed to be out this year, which is something in its favor. I am a little wary of a router built on a draft standard, even if it is backwards compatible with the current standards but the fact that it could be better once they finalize the standard and if it will be compatible then I could get better performance. I also think that the D-Link router has more functionality but since I am not very wel... Read more

So I've very recently gone wireless. I picked up a D-Link 524 router and a Linksys WPC54GS wireless card for my Dell C-600 Latitude laptop on account of having limited cash and finding those to be seemingly the best bang for buck. I'm in a basement apartment, shared with a person using the same router and whatever pack-in wireless card comes with the new Dell laptops. I'm running XP, and when the wireless connection works, it works wonderfully. I can get a fine connection pretty much anywhere in the apartment as long as I keep some approximation of a line-of-sight. The problem is that I keep dropping off the connection just about every 7 minutes. Instant Messenger keeps me cued into this.

It's not a huge problem for regular browsing, but it makes chatty conversations miss beats, and is generally inconvenient. My roommate gets logged off fairly frequently too, but I haven't checked to see if it's the exact interval.

So what's going on here? Is my solution as simple as needing to match companies--D-Link and D-Link, or Linksys and Linksys--or is there a sneaky solution? Many thanks.

Hello friends!

I'm having a bit of trouble tonight trying to connect to my wireless router. Here are the specifics-

Router: Linksys Wireless B
OS: Windows 7
Wireless Adapter: Netgear Wireless G

I used the Netgear installation disc and ran the setup wizard. I was able to connect easily initially, and firefox opened to my google homepage. I tried a simple google search and it went offline. The taskbar icon shows "connections available" and when opened and prompted to connect to the found network, it was "unable to connect". I opened the Netgear set up wizard and it just keeps scanning the channels and never connects. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Hi Folks,This is my first post and I hope someone can help me.I recently bought a T61 with the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN card running on XP.The problem I am having is that I can not stay connected to my wireless network. When I turn on the laptop automatic connection is spotty at best. Once I do get connected, as soon as I open a browser (Firefox or IE) the connection drops and my router freezes. I know the problem is not with the router because it works smoothly with my business Dell Latitude D620 or a very old Thinkpad A31p.I've tried everything I can to rectify the problem (drivers, settings etc.). It's not easy downloading drivers to a flash drive on my wife's desktop and copying it to my laptop. From my research on the internet, it seems a lot of people are having the same issue. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Wireless Connection Problems with a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

HiI have the exact same problem.  I have read about many others with the same issue.   I wish I had an answer for you.  There are a couple of things going on.  The Lenovo power management wants to turn the wireless off at a whim.   Authentication seems to fail for me with WEP turned on (works with other laptops using the same WRT54G).   I am running a T61 with Windoze XP.  Our work Wireless AP (WAP) has WEP enabled.   Wireless will work on the T61 at home with no WEP but not at work.    I am thinking about installing linux (running network manager) on the T61 becuase I know it will probably work.  I think the troubles are with the Lenovo wireless configuration utility. I am surprised that Lenovo has not fixed such a big problem.   It doesn't reflect a quality product.

I've got a Netgear wireless router which is running fine with one computer (i.e. the internet cable comes from the wall - modem - wireless router - computer) and the internet works ok.I've got a USB Network adapter for the other computer which has been installed and recognizes the connection with the netgear router (i.e. there is a connection shown in the system tray). The problem is it won't connect to the internet, when i try to repair the connection it says there is a problem renewing the IP address.I am using NTL broadband, and the internet is working fine through the netgear router on the first computer but not on the second.Anyone suggestions much appreciatedcheers

Answer:Wireless problems - Netgear router/Linksys adapter

In Network Connections from Control Panel right click your WiFi connection and select properties. Scroll down to TCP/IP and select it then Properties again. Make sure that both the settings are set to "Obtain Automatically"The I would turn off all computers and switch off the router. After 5 minutes reboot the router and when all the confirmation lights are on reboot each computer in turn and connect to the internet.

Statement: "Is there a way to hook the printer to a wireless adapter and therefore get it on the network?"

Canon MultipassF80. Linksys Wireless Router

The story so far....

Although this says "laptop computing" its actually a printer problem!

Have a Canon Multipass F80 - which is located too far from the CPU (see why a laptop would be nice?)

Can not buy a wired solution - its greater than 30 feet.

Can not move the printer (my client says it does not look good near her computer in the new layout of the office).

Would like to get the printer onto the network - It has a usb-b connection but no wireless card.

Called Canon - they said "no way" and proceeded to try and upsell a new printer. (Big surprise).

Did they give me correct info?

Or is there a way to hook the printer to a wireless adapter and therefore get it on the network?

Answer:Canon f80 printer > to a wireless adapter > to linksys router

There are routers out there that can be used as "printer server".
Here is a link for Linksys product. But there are other brands too.
Search for printer server routers.
Canon's got nothing to do with this.

Hi. I've been working with my ISP to get my broadband speed up, which has been successful. When i connect via ethernet cable to my router i get download speed test results around 12Mbps, but when i use the wireless connection i only get 5Mbps. As far as i can tell, i have the most recent drivers (from the dell and intel websites) so i don't know what else to try. I don't know whether it matters but i'm using windows to manage the wireless conncetion rather than the intel software, mainly because i couldn't establish any connection at all when i originally set the network up using the intel software.I'm no expert, so would really value any advice you may be able to offer.Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Answer:bg2200 wireless adapter and linksys WAG354G router

If you go into the Network Connections folder ("Start > Run", type NCPA.CPL and click OK) and then double click the Wireless Network Connection, what speed is shown? This isn't your internet speed it is the speed at which the adapter is connecting 'wirelessly' with the router. As you're running an 802.11g router it should show 54Mbps.

Hi Guys,I recently got a new netbook. (Samsung NC10) It runs with XP and has 160GB with 1GB of Ram. WI-FI & Bluetooth too.My original question was going to be HOW CAN I CONNECT TO UNSECURED WI-FI CONNECTIONS WHILE I AM OUT ON THE ROAD. (I always see the many available unsecured networks but never seem to connect to any of them.     Ok, so.....  Instead of bothering you guys, I googled my question and read about Wi-Fi Dongle Boosters. (Good to know there is such a thing)  Anyway, I also saw something called a USB Network Adapter and realized I had this in a bag under my desk. (It had belonged to my ex) It kinda looks like a mini version of my Linksys Wireless Router.  Here is the Link: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WUSB54GCan someone tell me what this is? Also, will it boost me signal to my netbook when I am out so I can pick-up those 'unsecured' connections?

Answer:LINKSYS Wireless-G USB Network Adapter ???

You "SHOULD" just e able to use your new laptop to get a signal and connect to the internet. I do it all the time with a HP Dav2000. My sisters house, my girlfriends house coffee shops sometimes at work no matter where I am I just see a list of available connections click and presto! Do you receive an error message? You may see someones router that has no internet hooked up to it?Weak signal?Do you have the internal settings set correctly. The 54G is an Adaptor which talks to the router and lets your laptop communicate through that router with the internet. My daughter had one years ago when I put the wireless in my house. You don't need that. Your laptop should be self sufficient. It "SOUNDS" like it should be a very simple fix.

After installing the driver for my Linksys wireless thing, sorry I don't know what to call it. Basically the antenna on the back of my computer that gives it wireless internet.

So anyways, it came with a program called "Linksys Wireless-G PCI Network Adapter with Speed Booster". And it always starts up and freezes whenever it starts. It's really annoying, im using the Windows Wireless program. But it still pops up whenever I start up my computer.

How do I get rid of it? Because when I try to uninstall it, it uninstalls the driver for my wireless.

Answer:LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter & Linksys BEFW1154 wireless router problems

You need to make sure the wireless card is set to get an IP address automatically. If it set to use DHCP, but is unable to get an address the IP address will appear as a 169.254.x.y address. If this happens, you probably need to make sure the wireless card's drivers are properly installed.

I have an Dell Dimension 8200 running XP SP3. I'm trying to set up a wireless network. I had Linksys tech support configure the AE3000 wireless adapter and it says it's working properly in Device manager. The blue light is on the adapter and it blinks every 9 seconds. There are no yellow exclamation points either. Yet the adapter is not connecting.

Cablevision is my ISP. They sent me a Sagemcom smart router and I believe I have set up properly. However, when I remove the ethernet cable from the computer, the wireless network can't be found and I lose my Internet connection. When I go to Control Panel>network connections and to Lan & high speed Internet and to local area connection 3, my Linksys adapter is shown as not connected.

I had to call Lynksys support because I could not get the adapter to work with the CD and the technician was able to load the drivers off their site to get it to work. I find it pretty sad that they package the wrong drivers on their CD but that's another story. So, at this point, the adapter is shown to be working properly in Device Manager but I can't connect to the Internet.

The tech support guy at Cablevision said that he thought the problem was that the adapter was configured before a network was in place for it to see and somehow I have to configure the adapter to see my network. I have no idea how to do that so I was hoping someone could advise me.

I have an hp pavilion dv6 1355dx win 7 64bit intel core 2 duo. The wifi was working fine with my remembered connections and connected automatically within range. Then it started saying limited connection and would not let me browse the internet. After trouble shooting it said "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter" So I uninstalled reinstalled Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN it was listed under network adapter so I'm assuming that means it is the adapter but I was told it is the driver. Still confused on that. A friend suggested that I delete my remembered connections now it just says no connections available.

Under network adapter properties even tried changing the channel width for band 2.4 thats Value was set 20 MHz only to Auto, as I was instructed by my college IT guy. I've searched for the drivers installed the one on the hp support site. According to my model i have Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter, in the devices supported list nothing that I thought was the adapter or driver was listed. Downloaded the file they said contains the driver for that adapter...didn't seem to do anything other than install. Tried rebooting still nothing. Anyone have any ideas or is it just a lost cause?

Thanks

Allison

Answer:Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN wireless internet won't work

You could try backing up your data and re-loading your system from your backup software or from a restore point from before the start of your problem? That way the network adaptor will have a working driver installed.

The BIOS has a whitelist of supported wireless cards. You need a Lenovo branded 4965agn card or else the BIOS will not allow you to boot the computer until you remove the card. The Intel 4965agn wireless card you are looking for is the FRU 42T0865.

Type: 7764-CTO S/N: L3-xxxxx OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Driver version: 13.1.1.1 In a nutshell, my WiFi has stopped working overnight; that is, it had been working flawlessly for more than a year, and one day when I woke up it decided to quit. Here's what happens when I turn the radio on now: it will scan for APs as usual, but only report a fraction of the list as it used to - it may not report even the preferred APs, which it had no problems connecting to before - and never make a connection. On some rare occasions, it might be successful at making a connection, but the connection would be reported as limited (i.e. no Internet access) and it would not stay connected for more than a few seconds. 90% of the time the 802.11 radio would try connecting, fail, and power off. Here's what I have tried: I have tried updating to the latest driver, as well as reverting back to the Windows 7 bundled driver. I have tried making connections to several working networks (e.g. friend's home, office, cafes, etc) to rule out my router being the source of the problem. I have also tried running the Ubuntu LiveCD to see if it would work under a different OS. Obviously, nothing has worked. For those who are curious, ethernet connection is working fine. I'm leaning toward it being a hardware failure. Does anyone have other thoughts and perhaps even a solution?

This has been a problem since day one of purchase and I am about to toss this computer in the trash!  Lost many days of production and probably some vital business because of this.  I have performed yet another complete rescue and recovery clean install and performed all windows vista updates as well as lenovo updates.  Every time the computer is moved just a little bit the wireless drops.  If you unplug the power cord the wireless drops.  Even changing power settings under device manager it still drops. I have tried to find the information to reseat the adapter but have come up empty.  With the thousands of posts and blogs all over the internet I would think Lenovo would have fixed this problem.  I am in the process of buying another laptop because this one is very unreliable and I have lost valuable time, business and potential customers because of the down time. I wondered if anyone has swapped wireless adapters with any luck?  If anyone has the schematic to remove/replace/reseat the adapter or a link for that information I would be grateful!  You purchase top end for business with anticipation of few problems.  My old IBM 386 & 486 are still working with no problems!  HELP BEFORE THE SLEDGE HAMMER FALLS! Thanksgrgsr

Also, when I then do this, what will happen to the laptops on my network when they try to access the internet? Will they be prompted to enter the 4 keys that are generated? Will this be just once, or each time they access the net?

Thanks all.

Any chance you're in "Airplane mode"? Do you see any wireless networks? Z.

I had my computer wired right to the internet, then my girlfriend got a laptop, so I went and got a wireless router(netgear wgr614) and set it up and figured why not make my desktop wireless so I got a cheap belkin usb network adapter and had it running for lamost a year and a half now.

well the router stopped working so I went and got a d link 2310 wireless router. got the laptop on it no problem. but cant get the belkin to work. it finds the network, logs onto the router, but NEVER gets the internet. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the software for it as well with no luck. could it be the usb adapter? wy would it work with netgear and not with d link???

and I know it is not a range problem because my pc is in the same rom as the router and about 9-10 feet between antennas. I dont wanna just go out and buy a dlin adapter and have it not work either.

Answer:Belkin wireless usb adapter won't work with d link router?

dont know why I didnt try this out before, but if I login to the router and get rid of any security, then my desktop get srigh ton and gets the internet, but wih security enabled, it will only log on to the router, and not access the internet....

any ideas?

First time i had this problem i looked the driver  up with HP support and downloaded and installed it and my wifi worked fine. But after a restart the next day it is gone again. In programs and features (programma's en onderdelen in NL) i see the Broadcom 802.11 Wireless Lan Adapter in the screen but under Device manager it is not in the list....and the result is nog Wifi. In the taskbar i also do not get the option for wireless and the airplane setting is not on. Who can help me?

Hi I'm looking for a good USB wireless network adapter, my router is a Time Capsule. Anyone have the Linksys wireless N USB Network adapter (WUSB300N). Is it any good? Linksys has it listed on there site as being refurbished, Should I purchase it? The WUSB600N is the newer model but it has much shorter antennas, it is better than the WUSB300N? Any info is greatly appreciated

This link may be of use to you:

Linksys? by Cisco ? Home ? UK

As a matter of interest, what wireless security protocols are you using: WEP or WPA? I did read somewhere that this router is incompatible with a WPA setup.

I got a new wireless high performance adapter about a week ago from amazon and it detects my wireless network but does not connect to the internet. Sometimes it does connect to the Internet but rarely and some times it doesn't even show up in my wireless network.

I have a "Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" card installed in my new T61p. Can this card be used in 802.11n mode? The reason I'm asking is because although it seems to have some "advanced" options for "N", it only operates in 802.11g mode at best. My card doesn't connect when I set my wireless router to transmit in 802.11n mode only. Please advise. Thanks. Gary Grathen

Hi,I have T61p (XP 32bit) with wifi Intel Wireless Wifi Link 4965 AGN. Recently I tried to upgrade driver to version 13.xxxx but after installing the driver the wifi card doesn't work. To make it work I had to revert the driver to version lower then 13. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks

Answer:T61p Intel Wireless Wifi Link 4965 AGN driver upgrade

did you download the Lenovo driver, or did you down load the driver from Intel? Lenovo writes alot of their own drivers for things like wifi cards, its possible that by downloading Intel's driver, it isn't compatable with thinkpads.
