New Thinkpad W530 order direct from Lenovo with integrated mobile will not connect to broadband

Question: New Thinkpad W530 order direct from Lenovo with integrated mobile will not connect to broadband

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.

The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.

Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.

Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Everything else works fine with the W530. I've owned ThinkPads exclusively since the first one ever came out. I've never not been able to connect to mobile broadband with any others. I also went through about two weeks of trying to connect with Lenovo Mobile Access and that did not work because I'm running Windows 8. Finally a nice gentleman called me from LMA to tell me it will not work after all the time of connecting and being on the road. I could go back to an old ThinkPad to travel with but I'm determined to get my new one to connect. Any more advice or anything anyone can tell me try?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all.I've recently buyed a ThinkPad W530 (Lenovo Model Number: N1K4JIX).Tecnical sheet and distributor sheet say that in this model there is an "3G Open SIM" WWAN card. In fact, i've under the battery the slot for insert my 3G Telephon VODAFONE SIM.The problem is that i not can see nothing (software or hardware switch) that can control 3G Broadband connection.I update the notebook at Win8, with shipped Lenovo CD, i try to install ERICHSON drivers but this give me error (it's impossible initialize device). Now, my intret is in first how i know if i really have an Mobile Broadband Mini Card installed and not only the SIM slot and, after iėm sure of this, how can i enable and use 3G connection with my laptop?Thank very much at all, regards,Mauro.

Answer:ThinkPad W530 Mobile Broadband Mini Card

Hi, mauroreggio

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, you should be able to see the listed network adapters in the computer. Can you post what these adapters are or take a screenshot of them? If a mobile broadband card is installed in your machine, it should show up there.

Best,
Adam

Answer:Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connection Driver for Windows 7 - ThinkPad x200 5NG

you will want to check whetner there is a physical card installed. the x200 does have the card slot, but that does not mean that wwan card is installed. and even then ,its also not confirmed whether you have the wwan antennas installed. you will want to check your windows device manager and make sure you have a 3g modem listed under network adapters. if you dont, the card is unlikely to have been installed physically.

I'm posting here because I'm not sure where else to turn.  I will share my story in hopes that others might benefit and with hopes that someone from Lenovo might read it and gain some understanding what it is like to do business with Lenovo. Here's how the story goes...I placed an order on lenovo.com on 8/22 for a W530 and a slip case.  At the time the estimated ship date was 8/28.  On 8/27 I received an email that the case had been cancelled from the order.  Talking to Lenovo via phone the indicated the case was no longer available, no big deal, I'll find one somewhere else.  They did confirm the laptop was still on the order and would ship on 8/28.  The following day (8/28) I received an email indicating the laptop order had been cancelled.  After spending the better part of an hour waiting on hold and getting hung up on once I was told by a supervisor that Lenovo was experiencing problems with W530 orders placed on lenovo.com.  The supervisor indicated that was the reason my order was cancelled.  He indicated that if I wanted to get a W530 I should call the 866 number as the web site was not placing orders correctly.  He assured me the order had been permanently cancelled and would not be reordered and that my credit card would not be charged. Based on the failed order I decided to wait and see how Lenovo handled the situation and explore non-Lenovo alternatives.  Two days later (8/30) and without any wa... Confused about a few things:1. My W530 came with a ATT SIM Card, does this mean I can't use Lenovo Mobile access and need to sign a contract with ATT? the purchase page was a little misleading if that's the case. Can I get a Lenovo SIM and return my ATT SIM?Why has Lenovo loaded the Lenovo Mobile Access software on this system, It just doesn't work... 2.Cannot make the Gobi-3000 device work on Windows 8. Where are the drivers? it is unclear what the process is to get mobile broadband working even after getting the drivers to load. Documentation is very poor overall.

Answer:I wish to upgrade with mobile broadband, on my w530

Hello,
From looking at the W530's System Service Parts List, here are the mobile broadband cards which will work in the W530:

Lenovo Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 WWAN Mini-PCIe Card, P/N: 60Y3257
Lenovo Ericsson H5321GW WWAN Mini-PCIe Card, P/N: 60Y3297

Installing any other mobile broadband card will generate an error message when the W530 is powered on, so make sure you get the Lenovo-specific model with the part number mentioned above.

I am trying to figure out the best configuration for my X1 Carbon tablet which I am planning to order. I have gotten stuck on the option for Integrated Mobile Broadband.I am based in Sweden, with a Telia subscribtion, and want to be able to slot a simcard into the computer. Which of the two options should I then choose (for some reason Lenovo completely refuses to answer this question in any other media (phone, email, distributor, etc) than in this forum so hopefully someone here can help me): * N5321 Mobile Broadband HSPA+* LTE Sierra EM7345 Thx!

Greetings:Does it make sense to get the Integrated ____ (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) Mobile Broadband add on or is it more economical to get a USB or express card later on?Does integrated mean built in as it relates to this issue?Thank you.

Peter M. AbrahamDynamic Net, Inc.

Answer:What is the value of the Integrated Mobile Broadband add on?

The value is for people whom knows definitely that they are going to use mobile broadbands, in addition the reception using the integrated system would be better than the external usb plugins (most of them anyway), if you only occasionally use mobile broadband then some people would suggest an external one. It really depends whether you are a road warrior that need constant mobile internet access.

Hello,Ordered a laptop with this option. & have inserted a SIM card I used in my "old Sony laptop that I used for WWAN.What else is needed to connect? Thanks

Answer:What does " Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable" mean?

Hi rookie66, welcome to the forums,

it means that everything you need for broadband, WWAN, is present except the all important module which actually makes it all work.  The module can be purchased separately, or, on some systems the slot where it sits can be used for a solid state drive instead.

As you probably want to use WWAN, if you post which system you have members will be able to inform you exactly what you need to realise it.

why lenovo omitted Integrated Mobile Broadband options such as Ericsson F5521g with 21Mbps D/L and Gobi 3000 from its list for customising a thinkpad T-420? and what people do now ( without those modules)  if they want to use a simcard for connecting to internet whenever they carry their laptop and need web services?

I have no idea why the Lenovo Australia online store shows no Integrated Mobile Broadband options for the T420 at the moment. I would call them, or find an in-stock standard model with Integrated Mobile Broadband at a reseller.

Hey, I updated my W530 to Win 10 Pro 64-bit a while ago, after that the mobile broadband didn't work. I've been trying to solve the problem, but i have no tricks left anymore, so meaby i can find help in here. The computer does find the SIM-card and in Windows settings -> Network and internet -> Mobilebroadband it says "Connected" and shows all informationc etc. but then in Windows settings -> Network and internet -> Status, it says in red color "No connection"  "You are not connected to any network" It DID work in Win 7, but after the update, no more. I've tried deleting drivers and installing them again, and after that updating the firmware (well it just said "no need to update firmware, it's allready the latest" something like that. Reinstalling Windows completely. Still not working. There is no Security code locking it, and i have tested that the SIM card does work fine automatically example. in my tablet. What else is there? Do i have to install Win 7 to get it working again..

Answer:W530 Mobile Broadband doesn't work after updating WIN 10

Welcome to the CommunityI'd check out the APN settings in the connection profile, according to your contract with cellular operator (tariff plan). Windows 10 APN database might have wrong APN settings for your SIM card' data.

What does this mean? I ordered a T410 with this option and I would like to connect to my Verizon account- do I need a SIM card from Verizon to get mobile broadband to work. It appears no mobile hardwear is installed on the machine??  My x61 had the drivers and hardwear already installed - so this was previously very easy to do. Thanks in advance.

Answer:T410 - Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable

Hi and welcome to the forum!Upgradable means that the internal antennas are installed inside, but you need physical Mobile Broadband card to use WWAN, the card can be bought from lenovo. I'm not sure about the SIM part though, isn't Verizon CDMA? were you given a SIM for your X61 from Verizon (given that you were using same connection)?

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

I just received my new T500 laptop with integrated AT&T mobile broadband card.  There are no instructions (i.e. printed material, installation CDs, or on-screen messages) on how to activate this feature.  I currently use the AT&T service on my T61 laptop using a broadband modem card plugged in to the side of the computer.  This laptop came with an integrated Verizon mobile broadband card and every single time I boot up a message comes up asking if I want to activate / subscribe to the Verizon service.  No such message (for AT&T) comes up on my new T500. Can anyone provide me with step-by-step instuctions on how to get set up and going?  Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another? Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:How do I Activate (Integrated) AT&T Mobile Broadband Card on T500?

"Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another?" Just move the activated SIM card.  I have one activated SIM card that I move between a T60 and a T61 as required. Both of these machines have internal integrated Sierra cards, though. Have to remove the batteries while moving the SIM card. As far as activating service on your new T500, you should be able to do that by calling AT&T Wireless. Two people in previous threads on this forum have gone that route. Centex

If you are configuring that in the online store, the "Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)  [add $80.00]" will be the F3507G, unless there has been a recent change. Amazing if your IT guy can go through the purchasing cycle, install, and test, for less than that.

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO).  The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck.  When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...".  I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites.  So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with).  I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release.  I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card... I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hello all,I have ThinkPad T440p with Win7 pro I7 processor,it has SIM adapter under the battery, I insert the broadband sim I have and downloaded Access ConnectionThe app has 4 options WiFi  / Mobile connection / WiMax & Other connections,Why i can't click Mobile Connection ?!!!! it's Inactive with Wimax too. I need to activate it please. Thanks

Answer:Thinkpad T440p: Mobile Broadband - it's Inactive button !!!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad T440p, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Most likely you're missing the internal broadband card. This can be purchased from Lenovo as an option.

So after updating to windows 8.1, I can no longer connect to AT&T mobile broadband.  The AT&T app recognizes my sim card, but Windows shows no service no matter where I am! (even tested next to an AT&T tower).  I have the latest drivers installed from the Lenovo driver page, Sierra Wireless MC7700 - Gobi 4000 Software for Windows 8.1 (64-bit).  When it installs though it says Serria Wireless EM7700 not MC7700. Anyone else have this issue? Next issue is I can no longer connect to my corporate wifi which is 802.1x PEAP ,certificate based MSCHP V2.  I can connect to other non PEAP wifis without issue.  So at work I'm tied to an ethernet USB adapter when not on my USB 3 hub.Any help for the above issues would be much appreciated! I have model #3698-4UU

Hello, I'm in Europe. My X220 has a SIM slot and is "mobile broadband ready". Question is, does it have a 3G modem built-in? Or does "mobile broadband ready" mean something less than that? I have put in the internet broadband SIM into the laptop (was not sure about orientation of SIM), and cannot select "mobile broadband" option in Lenovo's Access Connections screen, in the ThinkVantage Toolbox. Thanks!Eoin

Hi
I'm trying to import an mbn profile with netsh for a mobile broadband connection and have it auto-connect.
The modem is build in to the tablet and registers in windows as a dial-up(wwan), not as a wlan as some USB modems does.
In Windows 7 this was posible with the AutoConnectOnInternet element but this has been deprecated in Windows 8.1.
Windows Dev Center mentions WcmSetProperty but this is in connection with C++ which I have no experions in.

On the configurator/customizer website, I'm building a P50, and I have no drive selected for "first hard disk drive," but I have a 256GB SATA3 OPAL 2.0 for "second hard disk/first solid state" option. Then there's an option for a "second solid state" which I can check, and this option is only a SATA3 OPAL 2.0. If I have the HDD as the option for "First Hard Disk Drive," I still can select a 2.5 inch SATA3 as a "first solid state" drive. This seems to imply I could order this computer with 2 2.5'' drives. The SATA3 OPLA 2.0 is a 2.5" inch form factor, not a PCIe type. Does this mean that if I can get this computer with space for two 2.5" drives, or this is a glitch in their configurator? I've seen videos and pics of people opening up this computer and they all have one 2.5" slot and two PCIe slots.

Answer:Can I order a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 with two 2.5" dr...

My understanding is that the slot with two PCIe slots can also support a 2.5" drive, if you order the necessary rubber mounting bracket.  I could be wrong.  I do not actually have a P50 to tell you exactly. In my experience, the P50 and P70 only offer as the "second SSD" option exactly what the first SSD is (both size and type, irregardless of raid).  So, if you ordered the first as a 1TB SSD, the second SSD is only available in the 1TB size.  If the first is 512GB, the second is only available in 512GB, and so on. I think the P70's second HDD follows the same rules--they only offer the same size (for the optivcal drive replacement) as what you chose for your primary HDD.

The W530 speakers are the worst speakers I?ve ever seen in any laptop.  I purchased the W530, and although everything else is great, the speakers are absolutely worthless. And no, calling it a business laptop doesn't justify not installing good speakers either. A business laptop and in this case, a mobile work station simply means a powerful machine capable of doing complex tasks including multimedia. Business doesn't mean crunching numbers in excel, it means professional use. I'm not a gamer, and the last game I played was on ATARI, 25 years ago, so I don't expect mind blowing audio from a laptop. What I do expect is to be able to actually hear a **bleep** conversation on a Skype call, or watch a movie without headphones. My old Toshiba laptop with Herman Kardon speakers sounds like a boom box compared to this machine. My cell phone speakers have better clarity, depth and volume than this $3,000 machine, and I don't appreciate cheapness. If you claim to be the best, deliver the best, plain and simple.  Shame on you big time Lenovo.

Hello, I am trying to enable the fingerprint reader on my Thinkpad W350. I ordered a Thinkpad W530 on 8-22-12 and did not get an order status update until 8-31-12 when the order status said it would be shipped on 8-31-12, No additional updates happened until 9-10 until a new ship date of 9-10 showed up. Here it is 9-12 and no shipping information has happened. Is this standard for Lenovo? How long did it take for Lenovo to ship your thinkpad?

Answer:How long does it take for Lenovo to build and ship a Thinkpad W530?

Look at the 2012 Shipping thread sticky for a good idea of what the process is from order to shipping. Apparently it varies from order to order. I got lucky - ordered my W530 on 9/2/2012, it shipped from China on 9/9/2012 and is scheduled to arrive either 9/13/2012 or 9/14/2012 depending on customs. Other than that I'm not sure what causes the delays or speeds up the process Good luck!

"Lenovo ThinkPad W530 User Review"  was posted on notebookreview.com:http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6532&p=2 Unfortunately, the performance benchmarks for the W530 in this review are overall lower than the Dell Precision M4600http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6400&p=3 and the MacBook Pro Retina 2012http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6495&p=2 Note that the W530 tested has a 32GB SanDisk mSATA SSD, whereas the Dell was configured with a 128GB Samsung PM810 mSATA SSD and the MacBook Pro a 256GB SSD.Hint to Lenovo: Offer a SATA III SSD option for the W530 and send a unit so configured to the reviewers.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad W530 User Review (notebookreview.com):

The Dell was using the mSata port (SATA-II) speeds and the CrystalMark scores basically indicated that as well. Nice to see that the Samsung PM810 (was it a PM830? ) was in the system as the OS drive. I've received simliar scores using the Crucial M4 mSata 256GB SSD which performs similar to the Samsung 830 SSD The MacBookPro was using the Samsung 830 256GB SSD so no surprises there. The W530 does offer several Intel SSDs that are SATA-III compliant, but not at the same capacity as the Samsung 256gb or 512gb SSDs

You may wish to visit the driver matrix for your T530 and have a look at the Windows 8 WWAN driver listed there. It has a newer version number and shows a release date last week.

X250 has two PCI Express M.2 card slot and one is already occupied by WLAN Card and other slot is available, Can I use empty slot for FRU-04X6014?4. Can I use both WLAN and WWAN simultaneously?5. What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

I use Sprint Mobile Broadband ( a usb modem) and I connected the WII to my laptop with a WII LAN Adapter. I know I have to create a bridge between my laptop and the WII LAN adapter but which networks do i bridge? The only networks that show up are 3 LAN or high speed networks called Local Area Connection Network Cable Unplugged, Local Area Connection 5 Not Connected, and Wireless Network Connection Not connected, and 1 Dial up network called CDMA Sierra Wireless Compass which is the USB modem I use to connect to the internet. I've tried bridging any 2 of the LAN or High Speed Internet networks but i end up with a network bridge that says "network cable unplugged." I have already switched my Modem to allow network sharing but i just dont know about the bridging? I also don't use a router. So my questions are which networks do i bridge? How do i know which network is the WII LAN Adapter, and how do i create a bridge that isn't "unplugged?" Please respond. I'll respond if you have any questions.

Hello community,  you probably discussed this particular workstation and panel already over an over in the past. Actually I noticed that there seems to be some real expertise about the "AUO B156HW01 V.4" panel in this forum, so I eventually decided to sign up and now hope you can perhaps help me too.I am currently searching for a refurbished notebook around 600 Euro (700$) max and my main purpose for it will be photo editing and graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite) and in the future also some Cinema 4D and CAD. So a rather decent display with a high gamut is especially important for me. Of course my budget limits me there a bit, but I'd rather go for the best display than the most powerful machine within that budget. After some research I ended up taking a closer look at workstations, especially the Lenovo W series and the HP Elitebook. As the latter has the best display with the Dreamcolor option, it is unfortunately out of my budget anyway, so I researched more about Lenovos Workstations and ended up focusing on the W530 with the AUO B156HW01 V.4 Panel. This panel allegedly covers 95% of AdobeRGB and got a lot of praise in forums. But also some criticism (oversatured, red tint, hard to calibrate properly). So digging up more information about that display, I found out that the W520 uses it too, but I wondered that there were so many deviating display-test results between the W520 and the W530. They seem to handle and dis... Read more

I have a lenovo ideapad s10-3 I use internet with a wireless broadband modem plugged into the USB slot - it works in windows 7 pretty well. Is it possible to use a wireless broadband modem in the usb slot in the Quickstart OS? Would I need to get some different drivers somewhere and get them into the quickstart OS somehow? It is a huawei mobile brand modem. It seems to install its own drivers and software straight off itself when plugged into a windows system. I wonder if its possible to use it on a Linux system at all. I would love to have a built in modem, however from what I've seen it doesn't exist in mine, even though the sim slot accepts a card - it clicks in and everything. So - just gonna have to make to with the USB modem and see if it can work in the QS operating system. cheers, Adam.

I don't know much about Vodaphone, but if you do not have subscription that include data and the use of mobile broadband you need to contact the provider. I don't know if there are any special steps to make it work with Vodaphone or just like any other provider. Maybe someone else can fill in here.

Edit: Seems like Lenovo Mobile Broadband softwar do not support the Ericsson F5521gw adapter so won't be of any help to install this software in your case.

I just got my wireless broadband and can't connect with my dell inspiron 530.

It first told me that 'this computer does not have a wireless network adaptor installed and configured'

Then I tried to connect another way, and it was asking me for user name and password. I put in what was on the back of the wireless adaptor - the name, and the wifi key number as the password. It looked like it was trying to connect but didn't.

I have a laptop as well and that connected straight away with no problem.

Have tried to google for the answer but nothing I can find really makes any sense to me - can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

I'm having trouble with my Thinkpad's integrated camera. Its not working, so I tried to reinstall the driver, and received a message that there wasn't a device for the driver. I know I HAVE a camera, but the OS doesn't seem to see it or know it exists. I'm running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit). Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E431 integrated camera not recognized

Hi Maxdaddio,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that webcam of your Lenovo ThinkPad E431 is not working.

Go to Control panel-> device manager -> Imaging devices and check if there is any driver with a yellow mark. Check in BIOS if integrated camera is enabled there.
Press FN+F6 to open the Communications settings window and press Show my video image button to enable the camera.
Go into Lenovo Settings App on Metro view, and select camera.
There will be the options of Private and Normal.
Select Normal.
Also, in Settings > Permissions, make sure that Skype and other similar apps have permission to access the Webcam or Microphone.

Go to testmycam and check if camera works there. This will help you to isolate if the issue is just with Skype or in general with the webcam.

Hope it helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar.

Answer:Lenovo X240 Mobile Broadband Windows 8.1

Hi,Solution depends of your needs. AC is a full featured app. Some 3rd party tools or OS built-in features have the part of similar capabilities.Or try to install win7 AC using Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6. At least Lenovo PM works fine.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad T420 (4236-WVJ), and it has a slot under its battery for SIM card but i don't know how to activate it. I inserted SIM card, installed driver for 3G modem adapter and it says that it could not find a device for that driver. Also, i installed Lenovo Mobile broadband activation and it gives error: There is not a supported wireless WAN card installed in this computer. Thanks,Alov

Answer:Lenovo T420, Mobile broadband activation

4236-WVJ does not have any WWAN card.  All ThinkPads have a SIM card slot, but to use WWAN you have to buy a WWAN-equipped ThinkPad.  You can contact the Lenovo service center in your country to find out your options for adding a WWAN card to your system.

Hi  I recently purchase a t510 4313CTO, serial number: R9-7vR00. I've plugged in my 3g SIM card but can't get mobile broadband. I have followed this link http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Configuring-Mobile-Broadband-with-Gobi-2000-ou... When I hit function + F5 I don't see an option for mobile broadband, I only get 802.11 and Bluetooth. It seems like my laptop has been built without the mobile broadband option. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks Rob.

Answer:Lenovo T510 - Missing Mobile Broadband

Hi and welcome to the forum!First off, your serial number shouldn't be in public, edit your post to remove it.Secondly, use the following link to see which parts were shipped with your T510, if there is no mention of WWAN card then probably your system wasn't ordered with one:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=/partslookup/partsLookup.vmYou can order one from lenovo though. WWAN requires three pieces of equipments, SIM, internal WWAN card and antennas, since I'm not sure whether antennas are built-in for WWAN in current thinkpads; therefore I would suggest checking this thing in the following document:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74250.htmlHope it helps.

Greetings to the forum.

Several times I have found help here "just" by reading the tutorials and forum posts. And this alone makes me in advance say and repeat thank you to the community! Yet I'm found in need of posting my own help request this time, so I reckon... (It's sort of cross-posting from another forum, which I'm aware isn't the most welcomed practice, but since we kinda got stuck for ideas there, so I thought of extending the help request here, hoping it isn't a much wrong did?... )

Summarizing the situation, it's my brother's laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500 running Windows 7 HP SP1 32-bits) which now won't connect to the internet using the mobile broadband connect pen he uses, Huawei E392. It did before, always has, yet now it just doesn't. (He had installed another connect pen, Huawei E220, "over" the installation of the E392, i.e. he didn't uninstall that one prior to installing the E220, and somehow ended up with things screwed up. Even the uninstaller for Huawei E220, don't know why, didn't work properly then, oddly removing various files that had nothing to do with the installation of that connect pen, like most of the shortcuts in the Start Menu just disappeared (!) after running it, so we could only rid of the installation of Huawei E220 with a System Restore to some point before it was installed at all. But even then, in the end now Huawei E392 won't connect to the internet.)

I don't suppose is anything wrong with the connect pen, ... Read more

I am doing so by connecting one of the monitors to the DVI-D output on the docking station and 1 to a USB to HDMI converter (I was having issues with the VGA for some reason). I understand that I can only use 2 display ports to do this so I intent to add a USB32DPPRO to achieve this, however my question is will they all run @ 60Hz. I have found this link which confirms I can run 2 displays at the resolution I'm after, but it does not mention anything about the refresh rate. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/migr-76767.  I'm just a little confisued as when you start looking at refresh rates on 4K for example, it says you can only run 1 screen @ 60Hz and if you add another screen the refresh rate drops to 30Hz for both. Hi there, I am after few laptops and Thinkpad W530 tops my list - beating Elitebooks and Precisions in the process. I am after the top spec and a Quad-Core is a must (virtualisation + some heavy development). What makes me worried though is the reported CPU throttling issue of W530 that occurs while laptop runs on battery power (unplugged from AC) only - all the way down to seriously low 1.2Ghz! Happens when the discreet NVIDIA card is on. I can understand physics behind it as there might be not enough output wattage left to drive K1000 (35Watts) or K2000 (45Watts) but those kepler GPUs are still a far cry from 100Watts GTX680 present in some (though some 17inch) laptops with very little throttling happening. New quad core retina Macbook pro with its 45W GT 650M graphics card exhibits no serious throttling issue whatsoever while on battery - proof it can be done. Only as an example though, retina Macbook is no good for me. I wouldn?t mind bit of it say to 2-2.2Ghz still keeping the GPU and full power and active but to throttle the CPU down to some entry level ULV 1.2Ghz I find quite outrageous - as reason to consider laptop in the first place (dashing Elitebooks for instance) is portability and ability to work on the go purely on the battery power (whether battery lasts for 2 hours or for 5 hours would not matter much, hibernate swap the batteries all of this with SSD is less than a minute). 1.) Is there a way around this? Forcing 3rd party BIOS and... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU throttling issue while on battery power - few questions or any solution?

It depends on the configuration of the cells in the battery pack. Those laptops generally have more cells (like a 12-cell pack), likely wired to allow for such loads at the cost of battery life. AFAIK, the 9-cell will also throttle.Supposedly, you can use ThrottleStop to counter the throttling, but do so at your own risk and all that jazz. Nevertheless, if you plan to impart such a drain on the battery pack often, expect to replace it within one or two years.

Hey everyone, I think this is easily possible, but I wanted to confirm before pulling the trigger on another monitor. I currently am using my W530 with a Dell U2713H external monitor (2560x1440) and would like to add another one. Would the W530 be able to handle Mini DP to DP into the Dell U2713H and then DP out to DP in of a second Dell U2713H. I think this is a common daisychaining method, but wanted to confirm. Please share your setup if it is at all informative. Thanks for the help!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 i7-3740QM - Multiple 2560x1440 External Displays via MST (DP Daisychaining)

Works for me with the equipment listed in my signature. I was using 2 x U2715 (2560x1440). Have since replaced one of the U2715H monitors with a UP3017 (2560x1600). Daisy chain works fine. Both monitors usually spring to life within a few seconds of attaching the mDP cable to the W530, but sometimes one or the other monitors requires a power cycle to be recognized. Just be patient (wait a few seconds) when you 1st plug in the mDP cable (i.e. don't expect the monitors to fire up instantly).BTW, it appears that Dell no longer sells the U2713H.

Hi Langtuhanoi, Welcome on board!  Thanks for your interest in Lenovo Thinkpad SL400. May i know where are you currently located? Malaysia? Vietnam? If you're in Malaysia, you may visit Lenovo Concept Store that is just newly opened in Low Yat Plaza.  For your information, AP countries (except China) do not have online ordering system available right now. Only certain regions such as US, Canada, UK, Australia and a few more countries have the system available for customers to build and purchase online. In other words, there will be a few specific models available in Malaysia. Currently there is 2743 QNA model in Malaysia and the price is really reasonable. This model has IWS in Malaysia, Vietnam and many other countries. Check it out at this IWS page. Let me know if you're interested. I'll see if the Sales person can help you out with that  Regards,CleoMessage Edited by Cleo_Lenovo on 08-07-2009 04:09 PM
