W530 and mSATA detection error

Question: W530 and mSATA detection error

I bought a 120G Crucial M500 mSATA ssd a while back and have been seeing fairly consistent boot errors saying it can't detect the ssd. This is my boot/root drive, and the laptop runs fine for days/weeks at a time without problem. Which is odd, because I can boot off that ssd just fine after pressing escape to ignore the error. Sometimes from a cold boot it doesn't happen, but pretty much 100% of reboots result in that error message. Is there a way to fix this? It's rather annoying to have to babysit the laptop on boot.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: W530 and mSATA detection error

Hello and welcome,

Have you checked with Crucial? I had similar-sounding issues with an M4. Sometimes the SSD is slow to come on-line due to internal house-keeping work.

Perhaps there's a firmware update or work-around.

I have a T420 and tried a Crucial M500 but kept getting the 2100 detection error.   I'm wondering if the mSATA version would be OK or if this problem is present on both the main SATA bay as well as the mSATA connection? Has anyone had this error when booting an SSD from the mSATA port? Thanks!

Answer:Has anyone had the 2100: detection error on the mSATA port?

I run a Crucial m4 mSATA 256GB in my T420.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I saw the error once or twice - IIRC on the very first power-up and again after a firmware update.  Once the SSD finished its internal housekeeping, it never happened again.

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I have a w530 with a 512GB Samsung 830 SSD with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. 12.7mm SATA III Drive Bay adapter from Lenovo 500GB 7200rpm HDD that came with the laptop in the drive bay. I get the 2102 Detection Error on HDD1 (Ultrabay HDD) on startup before I even have the option to get into BIOS, and the drive cannot be found in BIOS either.  All drivers up to date. No signs of physical damage on any of the ports. This is really frustrating; I have a lot of data on my second drive. Any solutions? I've read pretty much all other posts about this error message and haven't found a solution anywhere.

Rcvd this Lenovo W530, 2436CTO. Unit had DVD issues (Drive would go to sleep and never wake up). Lenovo sent me a brand new laptop from China. Unit worked great for about a month when my mSATA drive crapped out. The Lenovo Solution Center indicated my 16GB Sandisk drive was bad. I notified Lenovo with the Error code generated and they sent me a new mSATA. I installed it and reinstalled the ExpressCache SW (software). Everything once again was well with the world UNTIL....during normal operation my screen and mouse locked up for about 30 seconds, disk light was on and after the 30 seconds, my control came back but my ExpressCache drive, the sandisk mSATA was gone...not even in computer management...simply gone. Upon opening an elevated command window and running ECCMD -INFO I see the HFS drive is NOT MOUNTED. Several seconds later it shows **ERROR** ECCmd Requested device is not available : 2 --- NOW IF I reboot (restart), during POST I am advised that the mSATA drive is not available and to press ESC to continue. BUT IF I do a HARD REBOOT (shut completely down and then turn back on) POST continues normally and the mSATA drive is found and ExpressCache starts working again. I confirm this by using the ECCMD command. HOWEVER at some time during the use of the machine the same thing happens. It is extremely repeatable with the SW I have installed. For some reason the BIOS is reporting that the mSATA is no longer available until a hard reboot. Any suggestions out there ... Read more

Question: mSATA on the W530

Hi, all -- My purchase decision is between the T530 and the W530. The T530 allows an mSATA device ... new technology, seems to function as a hard disk cache ala Momentus. Nice if it's true. The web site doesn't list an option for an mSATA. Does anyone know whether there's a slot for this if I buy one on the market?? Thanks.

Answer:mSATA on the W530

Well the W510 and W520 had it so chances are it will have it...Probably a blessing if it's not on website, can be bought aftermarket much cheaper and fitted manually. You will be able to find fully fledged SSDs available on mSata not just a cache boost.

Question: W530 & mSata

Having read all about Express Cache and mSata, I still have questions.  I want to put a mSata in my w530 for two purposes, caching and locating Pagefile.sys on it.  It looks to me since Express Cache will only use 32 GB that if I get a 64 or 128 GB mSata that I can use  the rest for pagefile, etc.  Am I right on this? I am not interested in swapping out the HD's (Two 1 TB hard drives) for an SSD at this time, nor am I going to put the OS on the mSata.

I just bought a 500GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO mSATA and would like to add it to my W530 simply as an extra drive for additional storage space. I have found endless discussions on installing such a drive onto laptops in general, as well as whether or not it works with the W530, but I can't find ANY straightforward instructions for how to add the drive to this particular laptop. My W530 has a standard 1 TB drive with Windows 7 and 8GB RAM. From what I understand, there is supposed to be an mSATA slot on this computer as well, to add the SSD. However, I have no idea where it is and can't find any instructions online for installing it into the W530. I did remove the center backpiece as well as the keyboard but found no obvious places to put this 2 x 1 inch piece. The only open spaces I see are in the center back, which are longer and I believe are for extra RAM. Looking under the keyboard, I see no open spaces at all. Can someone please point me to some sort of step-by-step installation guide, if one exists? Thank you!

I just got my W530 today, and dont get have an ultrabay adaptor, so this is what I did: - used the lenovo tools to copy the system restore to a usb stick- powered down, pulled battery and cord, added mSata and SSD - rebooted, and performed a factory "reset" - after this was done, discovered the utility had installed everythign on the mSata, and the SSD was left raw and unformateed. - i powered down, pulled battery and cord, removed mSata- rebooted and restored to SSD - runs great. so I  shut down, re-added the msata, and rebooted, and it didnt show up in the Disk Managment, etc .. weird.  I shut down again and pulled the SSD, leaving the mSata.  It boots fine.   I shut down yet again, put the SSD back in, reboot, no mSata showing up. WTH is going on? I'm using a Crucial M4 256 msata and an Intel 520 240 gb SSD

I just received my W530, popped in some extra RAM and am now installing the mSATA (Mushkin Atlas 240 GB). There are 2 cables under the keyboard that are supposed to go to the mSATA/WWAN card... are these only for the WWAN? I do not see where the heck I'd plug them into the mSATA, not even sure why it would need it. But I don't want to fry anything by booting up with the wires hanging around. For those that have done it before, is creating recovery disks and booting onto the mSATA easiest using the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools? Or is there another easier, faster way??? Please Help! Want my laptop working real bad! Haha....

Answer:W530 mSATA installation

Yes, the wires are the antenna for WWan card. Obviously the mSATA card doesn't have antenna connectors.

I've had my w530 for about a year and a half now and for the last 6 months I've been strongly meaning to wipe it and restore back to factory defaults to give it a fresh start.  I want to upgrade the memory when I do that, and I've also been considering replacing the mSATA 16gb cache with a larger mSATA drive so that my OS and Programs can run from the SSDI have a few questions though:a) If I buy a 250gb mSATA drive and swap it for the one in the computer then do the factory restore, will it install the OS and everything on the SSD? Or will have to find a way to clone things to the SSD?b) I hibernate my computer A LOT (cause I'm lazy/forgetful and don't want to shut down everything when I'm in the middle of something and try to remember later where I left off so I just leave everything I need open and hibernate til I come back to it). I know that SDDs are more limited than HDD in the number of write cycles they can handle so hibernating with SDD is not all that recommended. I'm leaving the main HDD in so would be possible to make a hibernation partition on the HDD and somehow direct windows to store that data there when it hibernates? (I'm running and plan to keep running win 7 Pro)c) I'm planning to leave the 500gb HDD I currently have in and use it for data and what not (and possibly my steam games since I only sometimes play them and they take up a lot of space, so I won't need as big an SSD if I store them there). So should I set up a partition of the mSATA SSD for ca... Read more

Answer:w530 mSATA SSD upgrade

Hello,

In response to your questions:

a)  For best results, I would suggest creating the recovery media for your W530 (or ordering it from Lenovo support) and using that to clean install the operating system to the 240GB mSATA SSD.  Just remove the 500GB HDD before you begin, and reinstall it after you are done getting the OS updated, applications reinstalled, and so forth.

b)  Using hibernation probably means the SSD's actual lifecycle will be shortened minutely, however, it is still likely to last well beyond its warranted period as manufacturers factor typical usage in when determining the length of a warranty.  The hibernation file needs to be on the boot drive.

c)  Generally, part of a SSD cannot be dedicated to caching if the SSD also contains the operating system.  There may be some custom implementations of SSD caching that allow this depending upon chipset and software, but I would not recommend it.  If you do choose to use it, I would suggest disabling hibernation.

Hello all, I am considering upgrading my HDD to a SSD soon. I will flip the HDD into where the CD Drive is and use it as a second drive for storage (pictures, etc). My first question: After installing the SSD, how do I reinstall windows? I don't think I received a disk or I can't find it anymore after purchasing this computer. I don't want to have to purchase windows over again. I believe the laptop is still under warranty, will Lenovo send me a new disc? My second question: Would a mSATA drive be benificial in order to help cache the items on the HDD (1TB)? Is that even possible? I am new to the realm of hard drives outside the typical HDD. All the information, feedback, and input is appreciated.

I have just installed a Mushkin 240 GB mSATA into my W530. I had been planning on cloning the stock 500 GB hdd to the new mSATA to decrease boot times and all that good stuff. I have been reading a lot about using Acronis TI to do this, and I have used this software to backup my drive before, but I hear bad things about its ability to properly align and size the partition onto a new SSD. What I need is some help identifying the best software to make this transfer, and then hopefully a set of step-by-step directions to complete the clone (I am largely computer illiterate).

Answer:W530 hdd cloning to smaller mSATA SSD

Acronis True Image 2013 will do the job for you, correctly. Make sure the currently occupied space on the stock HDD does not exceed 240GB. First, you use Acronis to create a backup of the stock HDD, saving it as a file on an external drive. Then, you remove the stock HDD. Finally, you use Acronis to restore the saved backup image onto the new mSATA SSD. When you reboot, get into the BIOS and set that new drive as the boot drive. After you have verified that the system boots and runs OK from mSATA SSD, you can shut down Windows, turn off the machine, and put the stock HDD back in. After the system has come up again, you can format (erase) the stock HDD and use it as a storage drive.

Hello! I have a W530 with Windows 7, and a 500 GB HDD. I was now looking into purchasing an mSATA in order to speed up boot time. Hello, I have recently received a keyboard replacement and Crucial M4 256GB SATA III SSD for my ThinkPad W530. Now that I have replaced my keyboard, I would like one last opinion as to whether or not replacing the default WWAN card in my W530 with aforementioned mSATA SSD will void my 4YR Onsite Next Business Day + Accidental Damage Protection warranty. As I have no need to turn my laptop into a modem I do hope that I can.The community forums and hardware maintenance manual seem to be directly opposed to each other on this matter. On one hand, the community forums have repeatedly suggested that installing an mSATA SSD (Once directly noting that it was a W520, and many other times with people suggesting that they have added an aftermarket mSATA SSD) will not affect your warranty or make no suggestion otherwise, and on the other the hardware maintenance manual lists an mSATA Solid State Drive as neither a CRU component nor an Optional CRU component.Am I vastly confused on the definition of the difference between a CRU component and a user replaceable component?

Answer:Installing an mSATA SSD into a ThinkPad W530

Here's the way I look at it.  I would never hand my machine, or ship my machine to Lenovo or a service partner without first removing the HDD or SSD in the system with my personal data.  If the machine needs to be repaired, it will be shipped with a HDD and the Lenovo factory image that came on the system.  I typically have an archive of drives and factory images that can be restored for that purpose. I can crack the case of all of the ThinkPads in my collection, and the ones we use at work without breaking anything.  But I have 10 years of experience doing this and the right tools. Other customers don't have those competencies. If they start unscrewing things they aren't supposed to and use the wrong tools, they might break something.  Therefore, the official docs and answer take the approach for that reason. Inserting or removing a mSATA drive in a ThinkPad isn't rocket science.  Some are easier than others due to the easy access from the bottom, but considering you have already replaced the keyboard, you were already there, right? I wouldn't worry about it.  I would install the drive and enjoy the machine.

Answer:msata ssd as disk cache in w530

you need to partition it using the disk manager. Hit the windows button, and type "create and format" in the search bar, then run it.You should then see an unformatted unpartitioned disk. Make sure you only do a quick format, not a full format which will start wearing the thing out.  Presumably you will want to give the drive a letter e.g. "E" at this point.    Make sure you dont format the wrong drive! I have not used it as a cache - I boot of my msata.

I found an article in the April 2013 issue of Laptop Magazine about installing an mSATA SSD Boot Drive in a laptop.  They used a Lenovo for an example of how to do this.  The article can be found here:      http://blog.laptopmag.com/triple-your-speed-how-to-install-an-msata-ssd-boot-drive-in-your-laptop Has anyone in this forum done this, and are there any special things to look out for?  The article makes it sound so easy and straight forward.  Are there any problems that they left out? If this mSATA slot is sitting unused in the laptop, and if an mSATA card can be purchased for a reasonable price, it seems to me like a great way to get more disk capacity, even if we don't use it as a boot disc.  If I can't find a reason not to do so, I'll probably buy one for my own W530. (I've asked about this on several phone calls to the Lenovo Support Staff, and nobody has yet understood what this article describes or allows.....)

Answer:mSATA SSD Boot Drive in W530

I have done this quite a few times but used a different approach. In every instance I installed Windows to the mSATA SSD when it was the only SSD/HDD in the system.  Later I added other drives for storage of virtual machines, personal data, etc. Another approach is to just use the mSATA SSD for storage and use a SSD or HDD in the primary bay as the boot device. You can take whatever approach you choose. The article you reference seems overly complicated if you ask me. There are easier methods.

I've been using a 256 GB mSATA SSD in my W520. It works great, despite the SATA II limitations of the mSATA slot. Today I came across the following: 480GB mSATA SSD The Mushkin sure looks like it will fit in my W520, despite the additional height. I don't think were are height constrained in our machines. I found a comment on Anandtech that states that the Mushkin 480GB drive is not truly mSATA because of the stack height: "Mushkin uses a stacked daughter board to achieve 480GB. This is usually ok in a motherboard, but not in a z-height limited mobile device. While it's still electrically mSATA, it is technically outside the mSATA specifications which limit z-height (if I recall correctly)." BTW: I sometimes use a mSATA to 2.5" adapter to run my SSD. So this won't be a dreadful mistake regardless. Now if only Samsung would release the 840 Pro in this format.

Hi in my W530 is a Samsung  500 GB properly working During the installation of W8 you have to decide between MBR ore GPTPartition stile. As i remember you can under MBR parition stile use SDD up to 2 TB (4 active partitions)and under GPT you can use more than 2 TB (up to 124 active partitions) with UEFII prefer GPT, because it starts faster and the startroutine is more secure. You have to chanche this in the BIOS GPT enables you to run hyperview, this is really cool  HTH Rainer Borchmann

Hi, Ordered my w530 with no msata ssd. When I opened it, there was a removable plastic covering over that slot. Through googling around I found a couple of tutorials that say to replace that cover. So that is what I did. Everthing is working fine. But at the same time looking at google images, have seen a few w530's with the keyboard removed and there was no cover over the msata ssd. There is also no mention of that plastic cover in the w530 maintenance manual. So decided to try and get some feedback from other w530 owners. What is the purpose of that cover? Not sure how hot these msata ssd's get. But have a feeling it may shield the keyboard against heat, but at the same time wouldn't it simply melt the plastic covering? Should it be on there? Any input would be much appreciated. This is the tutorial I followed. http://www.the.me/review-lenovo-w530-thinkpad-workstation-the-best-laptop-photography-can-buy-period... Thanks!

Answer:Protective Cover on msata slot - w530

these plastic covers melting temperature is higher than what your laptop would generate under usage condition. So if the cover is melting, then all your other part of the laptop motherboard is also melting. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8350025284/My machine doesn't have any covers on the mSATA, it is probably there on later one to prevent contact between the mSATA with the keyboard.

I have a 16GB mSata boot drive on my W530 (Was purchased like that).  Since then, I have upgraded the internal drive to SSD and don't need the ssd boot drive anymore.

What should I do to make the mSata boot drive usable for storage?  (Any options without re-installing the OS?)

Answer:W530 mSata cache drive rededication

I think I may have found the answer:The 16GB mSATA disk is managed by Expresscache which caches large or often accessed file for fast use. If I want to use the mSata for files, I just have to uninstall Expresscache and reformat the mSATA SSD dirve.Alternatively, I can exlcude drives from being managed by Expresscache (If you have an SSD boot drive, it is better to exlcude it since Expresscache can slow it down). There is no GUI but it can be done rthrough CMD:- Open CMD with admin privilege- Type eccmd ? to know what the commands are- Type eccmd -exclude c: (to exlcude my SSD)Any other thoughts someone?

Hello, I bought a msata for my W530. After installing the ExpressCache, I ran "eccmd -info" and saw my msata worked as a cache disk just fine. However, when I ran eccmd -info after several hours, it showed my msata was unmounted. I also cannot see my msata disk from Diskmgmt. I restarted my PC, but a error "2101 detection error on hdd2 mini sata " was shown.  Then I reinstalled my msata disk, the error went away, and the ExpressCache ran correctly again. However, the same issue happened again after several hours later. I have to reinstall the msata again, and the issue repeated. My PC recognizes my msata at first but unmounted mysata for some reason after running several hours. I noticed when I use my msata as a normal disk rather than cache, it worked just fine. I don't know what is the issue.  Could you please help me? My msata: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT120GB-V mSATA 120GB SATA III My PC is running the newest BIOS. Thank you!!!

Answer:My msata is automatically unmounted when using ExpressCache in W530.

I'm having the same issue on a T530, but it can be days before it unmounts itself randomly. Not using the latest bios, win7 x64. Was your issue ever resolved?

I saw somewhere that you could add an mSATA drive to the W530.  But can you then make that your boot drive?  I want to add an SSD but am deciding either an MSATA drive or a regular SSD.  I'd like to keep my old hard drive as abackup (probably even leave it in the system if I can get an mSATA to boot the OS from itself). Any ideas or instructions on how to get this to work?  I'm thinking I need at least a 500 GB drive (i tend to run a lot of VMs on my laptop).

Answer:Adding mSATA to W530 as boot drive

It's easy peasy.  Just be aware that the msata slot is only sata II so it's limited at 3Gb/s.  The hardest part is selecting the best msata, but I'll even do that for you...get the Plextor M5M or the Samsung EVO if you need 1000 GB of space.

I have a W530 with a 128GB mSata SSD on which I have currently installed the OSI also have two 750GB Seagate XT drives configured in RAID 0 for my user profile and all data. This is working great but looking at disk performance I notice that my mSata (OS) drive for most of the time is doing very little. I'm wondering if I would be better off installing everything on the RAID drive and using the mSATA ssd as an intel cache drive. Any thoughts please?

Answer:W530 Windows 8 mSata and RAID configuration

I don't think that configuration is a supported config with the Intel controller.

Answer:Does w530 msata support 6Gbps SATA III?

Nope, the QM77 only supports 2 * SATA-3 (6Gbps) ports, the other 4 SATA channels it has are limited to SATA-2 (3Gbps) speeds: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/performance-chipsets/mobile-chipset-qm77.html The two SATA-3 ports were used in the W530/T530/T430 for the internal hard-drive bay and the UltraBay, the mSATA port is only SATA-2.

Hello! I just recieved a new T530 I7 and also a Crucial M4 mSata SSD (CT256M4SSD3). The issue I have is sometimes the system will give a 2101 detection error at Post and the only way around it is to power off again, remove the battery/AC and try again. Answer:Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Called Crucial support.   They had me change the Intel 7 AHCI controller driver from Intel to the Standard Microsoft driver.  They suspect that the Intel driver is causing the drive to not shutdown properly.  I'll see how it performs with the generic driver for awhile.

Found the issue. It seems that windows 8 Doesn't actually shut down when you say shut down - it hibernates. I had to disable windows 8 "fast startup". Then after a shutdown, then I could see the drive and format it. I hate windows 8.

Hi there,I would like to fit an SSD to my Thinkpad W530 (2438-2KU) to get a boost in speed and increase in storage capacity.  At the moment I am thinking of a Crucial M500 480GB mSATA Internal SSD (http://images.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=F28BD783A5CA7304).  I'd leave my 500GB hard drive installed and mainly use it for data storageWill the M500 fit my laptop?  Any gotchas or anything else to be aware of?  I'll probably be re-installing the O/S onto the SSD once the new drive is installed.Richard.

Answer:mSATA drive for W530 - Crucial M500 480GB

Hello.

Yes, the M500 will fit your WWAN slot, but be aware that it will only achieve SATA-II speeds. Only the main HD and ultrabay controllers in the W520/W530 are SATA-III. Performance-wise, you'd be better off getting a SSD for your main HD slot and relocating your 500GB platter drive to an Ultrabay caddy. It can be hotswapped out for the CD/DVD drive if you require it.

Cheers.

Hi, Since I plugged my LG TV to my ThinkPad W530 with a VGA, the default graphic card of my laptop became the internal INTEL HD 4000 Graphics instead of NVIDIA QUADRO K1000M. I can play or do 3D projects only if I plug in VGA connector again to my LG TV using NVDIA graphic card. How can I make my NVIDIA de default graphic card of my Laptop again? Is there a way to change the configuration and choose NVIDIA GRAPHIC as the Laptop default graphic card and INTEL HD 4000 as the LG TV default graphic card? Thank You!

Ok I'm new to the forum but have loved having the resource here, so time to ask some questions and contribute myself. So, after extensive reading I decided to upgrade my trusty T530 to the W. Just a little background as to use case: I needed at least 32gb of RAM for the GIS work I do, but more so for the remote sensing aspect where I'll have several satellite images open at once and man do they eat RAM.I swapped out the motherboard, got a nice quad i7-3740, SSD main drive, 2TB ultrabay spinner, and mSATA ssd for other quick access data. Before I swapped the motherboard from the T530, I benched the mSATA card at SATA III speeds. I know that it is only supposed to be SATA II, and I am sure that I didnt mislabel the drives or anything. Below is the test. It is basically on par with the C drive SSD. Does anyone out there have any idea HOW that is posible? Now wiht the W530 motherboard it is reporting correct speeds seq read at around 280 MB/s. What happened??? In the real world there probably isnt THAT much difference but I do a lot of seq reads of large (1-6gb) image files. It's just kind of a slap in the face, "here you go, super fast speeds, oh wait, now you cant have them anymore"  Before T530 mobo upgrade, mSATA drive:Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 2657.903 MB/sSequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 2728.618 MB/sRandom Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 302.123 MB/s [ 73760.5 IOPS]Test : 50 MiB [X: 67.1% (156.3/232.9 GiB)] (x1) [Interval=5 sec]Date : 2016/04/05 15:52... Answer:W530 mSATA speed oddity, was SATA III speed!

Something is wrong with your numbers. SATA3 max speeds is 600MB/s or 6Gb/s. You have that T530 mSATA measurement at 2657.9 MB/s???? That puts it in NVMe territory not SATA3 territory (where that is absolutely not possible.)

When I try to boot my W520, I get a BIOS boot up error : "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I am using PNY XLR8 240GB SSD. It worked fine for a month. I also have PGP installed and whole disc encrypted. I installed an update of Intel Management Engine Firmware and Intel Chipset, both are the latest from lenovo site because I was experiencing expreme slowness from my harddrive. Programs would freeze. Webpages would take forever to load..The next time I rebooted, I got the error. If I leave the SSD out for a bit, and put the SSD back in, the disk will work for some time... but on next reboot, it is again detection error.. TRIM is enabled on my system. I am not sure how the SSD died so quickly. I am back to using my HDD but I am not happy. I want a solution... is this a intel chipset issue? Intel IMEI issue? Is  the PNY SSD just a bad model? I've googled plenty and dont really see a solution. Sometimes there is a firmware update.. PNY has no firmware updates for my drive.. I don't see anybody else using PNY on their W520, but plenty of people are experiencing Error 2100 with SSD on their W520.. somethings fishy.. help please! thanks in advance !

Answer:W520: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD with error "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"

Hello,
I don't have a ThinkPad W520 or a PNY SSD, but could it be simply that the SSD is coming loose inside the ThinkPad's chassis?  I suppose this could occur if a 7mm high SSD was inserted into a 9.5mm high 2.5" drive bay with a ~2mm spacer to "pad" the unused vertical space.

Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

I've had my T430 for about a year, and other than two Corsair RAM sticks failing my computer has been running smoothly. Last night, my computer suddenly froze up and now it won't recognize my SSD. I'm currently using my stock HDD, but now I can't access any of the data on my SSD. I've tried running the SSD firmware update from the Lenovo site, but it wouldn't show my SSD under the memory devices (I'm not sure if this particular SSD is supported by the firmware update either). I don't think lenovo customer support would help in this situation, since my stock HDD runs fine and I didn't buy the SSD from them, so any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have a month old T440s. It has the original 256GB SSD drive (didn't open\replace anything). After uninstalling some antivirus software win8 had problems booting. To make a long story short, I tried different things to fix the MBR and eventually got to the point of trying to do a full factory restore, which didn't work (it couldn't find the recovery partition). When I boot up now, I get the "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.Aside from trying to restore using Lenovo CD (shipped to me, will be here in a couple of days), what else cn be done and what caused this ordeal? I don't mind about the data on the SSD, I just really need my laptop functioning ASAP. Thanks for any advise you may have!

That error is coming from BIOS, it means there is something wrong detecting the mSATA SSD.  It could point to a hardware problem.  It is definitely not a software problem.  I would call the support line in your country, and ask what they recommend about it.

Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504.The problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine.  It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

Sorry for a 2500 GBP laptop I'd expect better really. This is the SECOND X1 Carbon I've had out of 4 to fail me with the SSD. I've lost all my data (Yes I know I should have backed it up) that I'll never be able to recover. Ultimately I've given up on the brand of Lenovo, my company who supplies exclusively Lenovo hardware to our customers are now switching to Dell as a direct result of the lack of support and poor hardware/firmware design. Just ordered 2X Dell XPS 13's as a replacement for my less than 6 month old Lenovo X1 Carbon, never thought it would come to this but the lack of support, knowledge and consitant hardware failures has left me no choice, I can't operate or do my work on an Lenovo X1 Carbon, fingers crossed the Dell will be better as it cant get any worse than Lenovo. To anyone who has Google'd the error and found this thread some cold facts; According to my resources this error can be caused if the system is not shutdown, BSOD or sudden power loss. If it doesn't resolve itself, there is a good chance it wont. Cycle the computer numrous times, let the battery run flat. Try it a few more times. Reset the BIOS, Update the BIOS. Prevention is better than cure, supposedly updating the SSD Firmware might have prevented this from happening in the first place.Lots of reports that this is an issue with BIOS and Firmware issues that result in an early death. I can confirm this having happened twice to me on different generation and model... Read more

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

I'll be getting a new laptop soon and I'm wondering what the differences are between these two SSDs. I'll probably be putting them in a Sager NP9377 from xoticpc.com. Both SSDs cost the same price but the Samsung 850 EVO has 120 GB vs Micron M600's 128 GB (both for $100) or Samsung 850 EVO with 250 GB vs Micron M600 with 256 GB (both for $160). I know it's a small difference but this is my first experience with an SSD so I just want to make sure I make the right decision. I'll be putting the OS on the SSD so what capacity do you recommend? Hello everybody! First of all, I wanna thank you all for helping me. I've been melting my brain searching for a solution and I just gave up, so I'm posting here for help and I'll try to be as detailed as I can. The product Lenovo 80DM Yoga 2 13(non Pro)Windows 8.1 Single Language (x64) (build 9600) PT-BRBoot Mode: UEFI with successful Secure BootIntel Core i5-4200U 4GB RAMHD: WDC WD5000M22K24Z1LT0SSHD16GB The Problem I just got this computer last week and the first thing I did was formatting it so I could install the new Windows 10(I'm not a big fan of the W8.1). So, being a noob, I created a USB flash Drive, booted from it and during the installation I deleted all partitions from the HD, which I did on purpose even knowing I would loose the recovery, drivers, etc. I could aways download from Lenovo support site. Once with W10 installed I saw that the cache partition SSD had disappeared and I wanted to make sure to set it up correctly so I could use the speed it provides. I'm pretty used to formatting in Windows 7 with conventional single HDD, etc, the problem is that I'm new to Windows 8/10 and all the msata configuration and stuff. To complete my problems, I discovered tha I couldn't activate my windows 10 version because I did a clean install and it didn't brought the activation with it. So yesterday I decided to go back to Windows 8.1. Answer:Help configuring mSata Cache on Yoga 2 13 (mSata SSD disappeared!!)

Hello and welcome,

You have an SSHD.  That's a hybrid hard drive with a 16GB SSD cache built in.  It operates invisibly (via the SSHD's internal firmware) and isn't something you can see or manipulate.

In short, you're OK as it is.  Caching will be automatic.

I am a constant tweaker. I bought a Y500 with 16gb of ram and the core i7. It came with a 1TB hard drive and a 16gb cache drive. I replaced the MSATA cache drive with a Crucial M4 256 GB msata drive and reinstalled the OS. I was using the 1TB drive for storage. The Crucial msata drive gave me a nice performance boost. I ordered a 120GB Samsung 840 SSD for use in another machine. The machine is old and doesn't pass through trim commands, so eventually the drive would have slowed down. I decided to replace the 1TB hard drive in my Y500 with the Samsung 840 120GB drive and to reinstall the OS on it. Even though the published read and write speeds on the Samsung SSD are slightly slower than the Crucial MSATA SSD, the Samsung 840 is noticeably faster. I'm using the 256GB MSATA drive as my storage drive. It's a good set-up. It's light and cool.

My Dell XPS 8500 has an MSATA slot in which I have a 64 gb msata board which acts as the system and boot drive. I have just purchased a 128 gb msata board I want to install in place of the 64gb unit. My system also has a 1 tb main hard drive.
I have tried a system restore DVD and Back/Restore, neither has worked at all. All I want to do is find a way to do a complete copy of the 64gb msata now installed and then replace it with the 128gb unit and copy over all of the data that was on the 64gb one. This way all I have done will be to have more storage available on my system drive, the msata drive.

Any help much appreciated.

thanks,
Michael

Answer:How can i copy the system from my 64gb msata to a new 128gb msata?

Hi and welcome to the SevenForums!

One solution I can suggest to this is to use imaging software to create an image of your current Windows installation. Acronis True Image is one of the popular ones on here, but there are other programs that can do it such as Macrium Reflect.

Hi guys,   I was wondering if anyone has done this? I have the 1TB HDD+ 32GB mSATA config but I want to install a new mSATA SSD possibly 128 or 256 for my OS and apps. I heard there was an issue with deleting partitions because of Lenovo Rapid Storage. Has anyone successfully bypassed this?

Hi all, A few months ago I purchased a 120gb m500 ssd (mSATA) and put it into my Lenovo W520.  This is currently the boot drive and is also home to a few programs that I want to run faster.  I did a benchmark today and noticed it only goes up to around 260mbps read and wanted to know why.  Further research shows the mSATA slot on this board is only SATA2 and not SATA3 (which would indicate the speed loss). My question is, is the hard drive caddy bay (the thing you can plug into the cd drive) a SATA3 port?  If this is the case, I could get an mSATA-SATA 2.5" adapter and plug it into that adapter and then into the laptop.  Would this also be worth it for the speed increase?  It'd be around 2X faster than current, and then 5X faster that the old spinning HDD (which is currently still in and is being used for programs and such) Thanks!

Answer:move msata ssd from msata port to drive bay

Yes, the "caddy" drive bay runs at SATA3 (6Gb/s) speed. Whether the reconfiguration you describe is worth it, only you can decide.

For reference, I run a Crucial m4 mSATA SSD in my X220 (also SATA2) and I'm quite happy with the performance. I've got a Samsung 840Pro in the main bay for personal file / video / image storage.

Cheers.

Hi all, I am going to install a Samsung 840 pro 256G SSD to replace my HDD that came with my T430s.  It also came with a 16G mSATA SSD "cache" drive.  Once I install the primary 256G SSD, I think the mSATA SSD will be useless and only going to cause trouble.  My question is, can I just remove it at the same time as I swap the HDD and SSD or will that cause problems? Are there proper steps to follow in this situation? Will any info be lost if I just take it out?.....I figure not since it is just a "cache" drive which is not supposed to really store any  files. thanks,Dan btw - my overall impression is that this mSATA "cache" thing has been basically useless and a waste of money.

Answer:T430s upgrading from HDD with 16G mSATA SSD to primary SSD - what to do with mSATA SSD

yes you can remove the mSATA drive when swap out the hdd. There is no proper step for removing the mSATA. The cache drive doesn't contain any unique data.

First off, if this has been answered, I apologize. I did a search but was unable to come up with how to do this.I just got a Y580 today and I also have a 256GB mSATA to replace the 16GB mSATA.Essentially, I am looking to clone the HDD to the 256GB mSATA and then use the mSATA as the OS/boot drive. Yes I can do a clean install but I do not have install disks handy. My attempts at this failed. I used Easeus Partition Manager to clone HDD -> mSATA, removed the HDD, tried to boot up but was unable to get the mSATA to boot up. I tried the advice on this page: Qlik Tips: Fix a Windows 8 boot issue but no luck.Any help you can provide is most appreciated.Regards,RZ

I have an emachines e520 laptop and am trying to go from Ubuntu to XP, however every time i try doing the install, it blue screens and gives me the "STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7AF4524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)" error.

I have downloaded the drivers and included them into the XP install disk. i made an iso file from the boot disk and then added the drivers to the ISO and then burned it back to a disk. And still no luck. I do press F6 but it still goes to expect it from a floppy drive, which the laptop does not have.

the HDD in the system is a sata drive and Sata mode is set to AHCI in the setup utility of the comptuer.

Hi, TTdeSouza

I did some quick research to see how others have gone about fixing this error. I found this thread here from a Lenovo employee on the same issue. According to the employee, someotherguy, the issue is indicative of a hardware fault. Due to this, I would recommend giving Lenovo Support a call at your earliest convenience.

I purchased an X1 Yoga w/ 512 GB SSD / i5 a couple months ago - loved the laptop.  After a week or so using it I started getting random blue screens of death.  Following the BSOD, the laptop sometimes reboots normally, other times displays an error during boot "2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2)."  If this error message is displayed, the laptop won't boot and has to be restarted again.  After restarting anywhere from one to five times, it returns to function normally.   After experiencing the same problem intermittently for a couple weeks, I finally called Lenovo and reported the issue and registered to return the laptop, ordered a brand new one (again X1 Yoga / 512 GB SSD, this time i7).   After waiting a couple weeks for delivery, I received the new laptop a few days and freshly installed all of my software, transferred my data over from the faulty laptop, and got back to work as of yesterday.  Everything seemed fine, but then again today I got a BSOD with the new laptop, and the same SSD error!   I can't find much information about this error via Google search, and only found one or two posts on the forum here referencing it that aren't very helpful.   It seems like this must be a relatively uncommon problem, but I've had it with two independent laptops.  I haven't installed any exotic software or made any customizations to the laptop - it seems unlikely that I am causing this problem myself.  ... Does anybody have a clue as to why I would have this SSD detection error issue on two laptops in a row?  The new laptop continues to bluescreen with a "Critical_Process_Died" message once or twice each day, seemingly at random.  It sometimes refuses to boot with the "Detection Error on SSD (M.2)" message.   I'm getting ready to send this second X1 Yoga back to Lenovo in the next few days if I can't find any explanation for this. Any advice from Lenovo?

I got a new T440s with a standard disk hard drive. My coworker gave me a Crucial SSD 512GB drive to swap in its place. I imaged the current drive on to the SSD and inserted it. Upon boot, before the boot sequence I receive the 2102 error. There is nothing in the SSD2 slot, as we didn't buy this option. The theory in my workplace (tech firm) is that I may have accidentally turned power on while swapping the drive while no drive was in the primary slot. How/where in the bios do I keep the machine from looking into this slot to boot? Currently what happens is the error is thrown and I have to hit escape to boot windows. This is a minor inconvenience, there is no loss of functionality, but when powering up on a dock or rebooting, it requires user presence. Thanks for your help.

Answer:2102: Detection error on SSD2 (M.2)

t440s might have three slots for drives - one sata III 2,5" and two m.2 slots. Usually new laptops with HDD are shipping with cache m.2 SSD which is placed in the 3rd slot. Since error 2102 is msata drive detection related I'd suggest to check out your laptop configuration and remove small SSD since you have primary SSD drive. But at first check out the function of small SSD drive - cache only or/and hibernation partition storage. And disable appropriate features for that drive.

Hello all. I've got a user who's T430s just goes to the ThinkPad logo and then after several seconds moves on but never gets to loading Windows. We just get 2100: Detection Error on HHDO. I had another T430s so I swapped drives. Now the T430s that wasn't booting boots fine. So I assumed the hard drive was going but the odd thing is that the 2nd T430s which now has the "problem drive" in it doesn't give me the 2100 error. The catch is the drive is encrypted with BitLocker and no combo of passwords or finger swipes will let us proceed. So my dilemna is I can't tell if this drive is bad because I can't see it. I ran Lenovo Bootable Diagnostics and they said they couldn't scan because it was encrypted. I put the drive in an external dock and connected it to a Windows 10 system and the drive doesn't show up under the Bitlocker to Go section. Is there any way to tell if this drive is completely done? It would be great to get data off of it but I can't seem to find a way. Everything I find seems to require a drive letter and this drive has none. Even booted into a live Ubuntu with the drive in the laptop and it wouldn't see it. Thanks all.

Answer:2100: Detection Error on HHDOcan

A lot of people have had this issue with perfectly good drives, and some have said they resolved it by going into setup, and then saving settings upon exit.   Others have said that by pressing F12, entering the boot menu and selecting the HD will let it boot as well.    Another said that by changing from SATA to Compatibility in the BIOS, restarting and then setting SATA back to AHCI will force a reset of the drive so it will boot too. Not sure if any will work for you, but you might put the drive back in the original system and give it a try (if you have not already anyway). I did see also where Amy_Lenovo posted in the same thread that a fix was found for the X250 ThinkPads, but that it required the system be sent into Lenovo.

Hi all

I've been testing AVAST 4.2 fairly rigorously on both VISTA X-64 and W7 7100 X-64.

Straight from the MS site I downloaded the .VHD Virtual disks (XP compatability mode)

AVAST reports that the .VHD file contains a "COMPRESSION BOMB". Now this doesn't actually tell me what this is -- but the fact that it reports something with the word BOMB in it means it can't be good.

Now as this VHD file was downloaded from the official Microsoft site I assume it HAS to be OK (or does it - I would imagine MS regularly checks its own websites - there's plenty of people out there who'd jump at a chance of attacking a MS site if they could).

I'm going to download the XP compatability mode again and have another scan.

VISTA again reports the file as CLEAN) so I think there still might be a couple of things AVAST need to fix in W7 when reading compressed or "archive" type files.

I can't post the screenshot -- once I see something with the word "BOMB" in it I immediately WIPE the entire machine. Schnell Fast, Pronto.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Avast 4.2 - Error in detection in .VHD file

The Avast forum reports this: A decompression bomb is a file that unpacks to an enormous amount of data - thus "flooding" the unpacking engine. It's quite hard to detect such files reliably, so it's possible that it gives some false alarms ocassionally.

The entire forum is here,
Hope this helps..

Suddenly, I am getting the mentioned error, 2103 detection error on ssd0 (m.2), each time I power on the laptop, with no possibility of booting into windows, etc.... Is this a failure in the ssd? Any suggestions?Any help would be really appreciated.Thanks.

I found the service manual and it doesn't have any instructions to do this i have 1 w530 with a 2gb gpu that has a failing fingerprint reader and the internal hard drive likes to disconnect.  I want to take the 2gb gpu from that, and put it into another w530 that everything works, but only has a 1gb gpu Thanks

Answer:Can i swap video cards from 1 w530 to another w530

Welcome to the forum!

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard, it can't be swapped or removed. But you can of course swap the entired motherboard from one W530 to another.

A while back I cloned the default 1TB SATA drive on an MSATA SSD plugged into the MSATA slot of the device. At the time I had been unable to design the MSATA as the boot drive while the original (also bootable drive) was in the system as it did not appear in the BIOS boot list.http://community.acer.com/t5/S-and-R-Series-Laptops/cloned-SSD-in-Boot-manager-but-not-Boot-priority...As I did not need the 1TB, I just removed it and have been using the system fine with just the MSATA SSD. Today I tried to make a Windows System Image backup, and I ran a Volume shadow copy error (below)Volume shadow copy service operation failed.... (0x807800A1)The writer experienced a transient error ...(0x800423F3) I check all the main remedy online making sure all the VOlume shadow copy servies are running, but without sucess. I have the feeling that the fact I am on the MSATA SSD which was not visible in the BIOS boot list may be related to the backup crashing. Is anyone running the R7-572 on the MSATA port able to do a system image backup? Thanks for your input

So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

Hi, I bought my P50 like 4 months back and suddenly it has started to throw this error when the machine is starting up."2100: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)". I have run the tests in BIOS mode and all the tests got passed. I have faced the error 2 times now and after keeping the machine down for few minutes and switching back on resolved the issue. But I can't be sure it will solve the issue next time.Just bit of a background to the error. I have started my machine this morning, and from Windows login screen machine sudddenly restarted saying "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". And on the restart I got the error. I do have a feeling that this not related to actual hardware, but firmware etc.  Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanks.Jaliya

Hi, I bought Thinkpad Yoga last year. The Yoga originally came with 512 GB HDD plus 16GB SanDisk SSD. A couple of days ago, I replaced the original HDD with Crucial BX100 SSD (500GB). Since then, I have the 2100 error. It goes like this. When I boot the computer by pressing the power button on the side of the computer, it boots well. About 30 minues later, the computer suddenly loses connection with the newly installed SSD, and shows 2100 error message on black screen. When I press any key (as instructed on the screen), the computer shows Boot Menu. But the Boot Menu lists only ATA HDD1: SANDisk SSD U110 16GB.  When I reinstalled the original HDD, 2100 error didn't happen. But I don't want to use HDD anymore for speed issue.  If anyone solved a similar problem, please help me.  Thanks in advance.- H_Kim.

Answer:2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

This is not just that one particular comptuer type or HDD type. I have two different Edge Series comptuers with standard HDD that are consistantly getting the 2100 Connection Error and Missing Operating System errors at bootup. Have to boot a couple of times to get the OS to load properly.
