W350 2101 mSATA not detected, anyone else getting this error?

Question: W350 2101 mSATA not detected, anyone else getting this error?

Hi guys im loving my W350 but on start up I get an error message saying 2101 error miniSata drive not detected. It has also done this once whle in use which is more worrying. I have taken the keyboard off, removed the 16gb mSata and replaced it, but it still is not being detected. If anyone has any thoughts Id be really grateful. Cheers, Al.

Preferred Solution: W350 2101 mSATA not detected, anyone else getting this error?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I tried very hard to find an official answer. I had my x220 bios updated to 1.40 version and installed the mSata 500GB EVO SSD drive to the laptop. It has never been detected successfully.  It was a big hard to insert the mSata drive to the slot and finally it was in the write position I'm pretty sure and the screw is aligned... Any idea?

Hello,

I have only tried a couple mSATA SSDs in my ThinkPad X220, but each one was detected immediately without any error.

Do you know if the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD worked before you used it?  Perhaps you could try it in another machine, or with an mSATA to 2.5" adapter, just to verify that it works correctly?  Although it is pretty rare to occur, you could have gotten one that is just not working.

(i have updated the title. sounds more like it. ^_^) Greetings ! I am a proud (well, yes ...) owner of the E530 A3G-Model sporting a 16GB SSD.Yes, the one with the pulsy, noisy fan. ^_^  The Story: Last week i thought i'd need a change and try something new. As i'm not really a noob oncomputers, i thought i'd set up Win7 x64 SP1 on the SSD. That's ... not that easy, considering the size, so i've spent the weekend removing irrelevant components ...... like Natural Language, Speech Support, Language Packs ...... from the Win7 x64 SP1 Installation Disks. It took me two days to get it to work, with several testing sessions using VirtualBox,but then i got it right. I haven't removed any drivers, services or anything actually essentialwhich could break the system. (I promise!) So ... after a long session in VirtualBox and installing this system on a small partition on my HDDto verify it REALLY works, i went going on to install it on the SSD. Please note that RapidBoot is turned off in the BIOS and i have removed ExpressCache, which i had previously installed manually, but wasn't actually caching anything anymore, for reasons i don't understand. Maybe i have turned it off weeks ago, i don't know. So, i have set up a 3GB FAT32 partition at the beginning of the SSD for the pagefile. It's a habit. It's a good idea to do this on HDDs, so i kept doing it. Longevity of the SSD was no issue for me,as if it breaks ... well, then it breaks ... but the... Read more

Answer:Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Called Crucial support.   They had me change the Intel 7 AHCI controller driver from Intel to the Standard Microsoft driver.  They suspect that the Intel driver is causing the drive to not shutdown properly.  I'll see how it performs with the generic driver for awhile.

Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD.  Regards,Gabor

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

Answer:w520 mSATA not detected in BIOS

Hello,

I do not have a ThinkPad W520, nor have I user a Hypertec mSATA SSD myself, but the W520 is from the same generation as my X220, and I know that it works with mSATA SSDs from at least two different vendors, MyDigitalSSD and Patriot.

Therefore, I'd suggest checking a few things to see if any of them make a difference:

Verify the W520 has the latest BIOS/UEFI firmware installed.  I believe the latest version is 1.42.
Verify you have the latest firmware installed for the Hypertec 240GB mSATA SSD (which I'm guessing is either their SSD2S240FS-L, SSDM240SF1200SA2 or SSDM240FS-L model).

There could also be an issue with the mSATA SSD itself.  A couple of ways to test that would be to try using the mSATA SSD in another computer, both via a mSATA to 2.5" drive adapter or in another notebook computer with a known good working mSATA port.

Once you've done those troubleshooting steps and let us know the results we should have a better idea about how to proceed.

Hi.  I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted).  I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

Answer:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

I'll be getting a new laptop soon and I'm wondering what the differences are between these two SSDs. I'll probably be putting them in a Sager NP9377 from xoticpc.com. Both SSDs cost the same price but the Samsung 850 EVO has 120 GB vs Micron M600's 128 GB (both for $100) or Samsung 850 EVO with 250 GB vs Micron M600 with 256 GB (both for $160). I know it's a small difference but this is my first experience with an SSD so I just want to make sure I make the right decision. I'll be putting the OS on the SSD so what capacity do you recommend? Thank you.

My Dell XPS 8500 has an MSATA slot in which I have a 64 gb msata board which acts as the system and boot drive. I have just purchased a 128 gb msata board I want to install in place of the 64gb unit. My system also has a 1 tb main hard drive.
I have tried a system restore DVD and Back/Restore, neither has worked at all. All I want to do is find a way to do a complete copy of the 64gb msata now installed and then replace it with the 128gb unit and copy over all of the data that was on the 64gb one. This way all I have done will be to have more storage available on my system drive, the msata drive.

Any help much appreciated.

thanks,
Michael

Answer:How can i copy the system from my 64gb msata to a new 128gb msata?

Hi and welcome to the SevenForums!

One solution I can suggest to this is to use imaging software to create an image of your current Windows installation. Acronis True Image is one of the popular ones on here, but there are other programs that can do it such as Macrium Reflect.

I am a constant tweaker. I bought a Y500 with 16gb of ram and the core i7. It came with a 1TB hard drive and a 16gb cache drive. I replaced the MSATA cache drive with a Crucial M4 256 GB msata drive and reinstalled the OS. I was using the 1TB drive for storage. The Crucial msata drive gave me a nice performance boost. I ordered a 120GB Samsung 840 SSD for use in another machine. The machine is old and doesn't pass through trim commands, so eventually the drive would have slowed down. I decided to replace the 1TB hard drive in my Y500 with the Samsung 840 120GB drive and to reinstall the OS on it. Even though the published read and write speeds on the Samsung SSD are slightly slower than the Crucial MSATA SSD, the Samsung 840 is noticeably faster. I'm using the 256GB MSATA drive as my storage drive. It's a good set-up. It's light and cool.

So, being a noob, I created a USB flash Drive, booted from it and during the installation I deleted all partitions from the HD, which I did on purpose even knowing I would loose the recovery, drivers, etc. I could aways download from Lenovo support site. Once with W10 installed I saw that the cache partition SSD had disappeared and I wanted to make sure to set it up correctly so I could use the speed it provides. I'm pretty used to formatting in Windows 7 with conventional single HDD, etc, the problem is that I'm new to Windows 8/10 and all the msata configuration and stuff. To complete my problems, I discovered tha I couldn't activate my windows 10 version because I did a clean install and it didn't brought the activation with it. So yesterday I decided to go back to Windows 8.1. During the setup I entered cmd and tried to see if the msata was listed but it wasn't, so I ... Read more

Hello and welcome,

You have an SSHD.  That's a hybrid hard drive with a 16GB SSD cache built in.  It operates invisibly (via the SSHD's internal firmware) and isn't something you can see or manipulate.

In short, you're OK as it is.  Caching will be automatic.

First off, if this has been answered, I apologize. I did a search but was unable to come up with how to do this.I just got a Y580 today and I also have a 256GB mSATA to replace the 16GB mSATA.Essentially, I am looking to clone the HDD to the 256GB mSATA and then use the mSATA as the OS/boot drive. Yes I can do a clean install but I do not have install disks handy. My attempts at this failed. I used Easeus Partition Manager to clone HDD -> mSATA, removed the HDD, tried to boot up but was unable to get the mSATA to boot up. I tried the advice on this page: Qlik Tips: Fix a Windows 8 boot issue but no luck.Any help you can provide is most appreciated.Regards,RZ

Hi all, I am going to install a Samsung 840 pro 256G SSD to replace my HDD that came with my T430s.  It also came with a 16G mSATA SSD "cache" drive.  Once I install the primary 256G SSD, I think the mSATA SSD will be useless and only going to cause trouble.  My question is, can I just remove it at the same time as I swap the HDD and SSD or will that cause problems? Are there proper steps to follow in this situation? Will any info be lost if I just take it out?.....I figure not since it is just a "cache" drive which is not supposed to really store any  files. thanks,Dan btw - my overall impression is that this mSATA "cache" thing has been basically useless and a waste of money.

Hi all, A few months ago I purchased a 120gb m500 ssd (mSATA) and put it into my Lenovo W520.  This is currently the boot drive and is also home to a few programs that I want to run faster.  I did a benchmark today and noticed it only goes up to around 260mbps read and wanted to know why.  Further research shows the mSATA slot on this board is only SATA2 and not SATA3 (which would indicate the speed loss). My question is, is the hard drive caddy bay (the thing you can plug into the cd drive) a SATA3 port?  If this is the case, I could get an mSATA-SATA 2.5" adapter and plug it into that adapter and then into the laptop.  Would this also be worth it for the speed increase?  It'd be around 2X faster than current, and then 5X faster that the old spinning HDD (which is currently still in and is being used for programs and such) Thanks!

Answer:move msata ssd from msata port to drive bay

Yes, the "caddy" drive bay runs at SATA3 (6Gb/s) speed. Whether the reconfiguration you describe is worth it, only you can decide.

For reference, I run a Crucial m4 mSATA SSD in my X220 (also SATA2) and I'm quite happy with the performance. I've got a Samsung 840Pro in the main bay for personal file / video / image storage.

Cheers.

I bought a 120G Crucial M500 mSATA ssd a while back and have been seeing fairly consistent boot errors saying it can't detect the ssd. This is my boot/root drive, and the laptop runs fine for days/weeks at a time without problem. Which is odd, because I can boot off that ssd just fine after pressing escape to ignore the error. Sometimes from a cold boot it doesn't happen, but pretty much 100% of reboots result in that error message. Is there a way to fix this? It's rather annoying to have to babysit the laptop on boot.

All --

I have a new Dell XPS15 Ivy Bridge, which came with a 750GB HDD and 32GB mSATA. Intel RST is currently turned on. I have a 64GB mSATA and a 512 GB Crucial SSD on hand and would like to install them.

My thought is to move the Recovery Partition (18GB) from the HDD to mSATA and use the balance of the mSATA to install Win7.

I have no experience with RST or mSATA drives and am worried about bricking the laptop. I also want to make sure that I have wiped the existing 32GB mSATA before removing it. I'm not sure what steps I need to take to achieve the desired results.

I know at some point, I've got to switch the mSATA to a 'regular' drive in the BIOS. I'm assuming also need drivers to do a clean windows install?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:Ivy Bridge w/mSATA and HDD swap to mSATA and SSD

The whole point of SSD's is speed, it's better used for Windows and/or the most frequently used software than saving it for a 'maybe' use like a Recovery Partition (moving it would probably break any chance you might have of using it anyway, Dell boot/recovery and MBR settings are complex).

If your system came with a System board hat has an extra minipci-e aside from where the WIFI is
It can take an msata ranging from 16 to 32GB mSATA

Hope this helps,

I own a T61 7658 I bough on 2008, it worked great with the default power settings until October 22nd I decided to change my power profile to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.  Next day I received on Message Center... 10/23/2010 - Battery health is critical. With the current system settings and a full charge, your battery can provide approximately 3.0 hours of use. A new battery could provide up to an estimated 5.5 hours.I kept using the Laptop with the Max performance until...11/12/2010 - Battery error is detected. Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one. I have used IBM/Lenovo  for years and even had used batteries for 5 years without a single issue.I have read many posts of people having the same problem not only with T61s, but many other Lenovo models, and also read posts of Lenovo's administrators suggesting this is normal and justifying that batteries should be good for at least 12 months and after that we are on own, basically meaning we should be thankful in name of our own safety that we had that battery protection and we must replace it at our own cost and forget about it.  That is a very easy way out, isn?t it.But certainly, not only batteries with more than 12 months are failing, even new batteries are and have been replaced with multiple exchange programs posted by Lenovo in their website just as in http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/batt/082009/LandingPage.html. and also... Answer:Rescue and Recovery to clone to Crucial Msata SSD drive Not Working Error

I'm a bit confused about the process you are using and what you are trying to do. If I understand you, you currently have a working 500gb hdd with the operating system, your programs and your data. You want to move your operating system to the mSATA drive and have your computer boot from there.you have made a set of recovery disks using the Lenovo program. This is intended to restore your system to its original state (no data or extra programs)Here are a couple of options You can create a "backup and recovery" set of DVD's using the Windows built in programs (click the 'Start' button, then type 'backup' into the search box at the bottom) that will back up all of your system (OS, programs, data, setting etc.)Use a stand alone program like Acronis to create a clone of your current diskThereafter Remove your current 500gb drive from your machineInstall the mSATA driveRestore whatever image you want (the Lenovo recovery, the Windows restore or the Acronis [or whatever program you used] image)Reinstall your 500gb hdd and rename that drive to a letter other than 'C'

Rcvd this Lenovo W530, 2436CTO. Unit had DVD issues (Drive would go to sleep and never wake up). Lenovo sent me a brand new laptop from China. Unit worked great for about a month when my mSATA drive crapped out. The Lenovo Solution Center indicated my 16GB Sandisk drive was bad. I notified Lenovo with the Error code generated and they sent me a new mSATA. I installed it and reinstalled the ExpressCache SW (software). Everything once again was well with the world UNTIL....during normal operation my screen and mouse locked up for about 30 seconds, disk light was on and after the 30 seconds, my control came back but my ExpressCache drive, the sandisk mSATA was gone...not even in computer management...simply gone. Upon opening an elevated command window and running ECCMD -INFO I see the HFS drive is NOT MOUNTED. Several seconds later it shows **ERROR** ECCmd Requested device is not available : 2 --- NOW IF I reboot (restart), during POST I am advised that the mSATA drive is not available and to press ESC to continue. BUT IF I do a HARD REBOOT (shut completely down and then turn back on) POST continues normally and the mSATA drive is found and ExpressCache starts working again. I confirm this by using the ECCMD command. HOWEVER at some time during the use of the machine the same thing happens. It is extremely repeatable with the SW I have installed. For some reason the BIOS is reporting that the mSATA is no longer available until a hard reboot. Any suggestions out there ... Read more

My laptop has suddenly started running CHKDSK during startup. After it completes and finishes booting I go to Properties > Tools > Error Checking of my C drive and click ?Check?. It says errors were found on this drive and to repair drive now to prevent data loss. I click to run it, the system reboots, I see the prompt to cancel CHKDSK by pressing any key, let it run, the screen remains blank with just the little spinning dots. It finishes (in less than a minute, which is faster than it usually takes) and loads to desktop. I check the C drive properties again and it still says there are errors and to repair.
Running CHKDSK from CMD prompt I get ?Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.? Running a 3rd-party disk checker (Disk Doctor, Tune-Up Utilities) also reports no errors. Yet the properties dialog continues to warn that there are errors.
I can?t be certain when this started. Just noticed this yesterday when I booted up (I don?t usually stick around and watch the computer boot). Windows has all the latest updates/patches. This is an HP ENVY laptop that came with Windows 10 pre-installed.
Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Inconsistent error warnings: Errors detected, yet no errors detected

I believe I solved it.

I booted into the recovery menu and then advanced options. I chose Command Prompt then ran the command CHKDSK C: /F

At Stage 3 it found errors and repaired them:
Errors in MFT bitmap attribute
Errors in volume bitmap

Afterwards, booting up and checking the drive status it now reports no errors finally. I guess the CHKDSK procedure didn't detect these errors when running during bootup. The other disk scanners I tried didn't pick them up either. This seems to have fixed it.

Dear all. Since yesterday evening i am not able to use my T60 anymore as the HDD isnt getting detected as usual. After the BIOS bootup sequence the following error appears:  ERROR2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2) Press <ESC> to continue  As far as i press ESC i am getting a new screen informing me about "Cannot boot from any device" and my HDD is outlined as "4: ATA HDD0: Device Error". I already tried to find it via BIOS and by PC Doctor HDD check tool but nothing happened. The HDD isnt getting recognized anymore. There was nothing special due to the regular usage of my T60 and i am not sure if i would be able to at -least recover, data in any way back to somewhere. Any help, idea or even support would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards SteveMessage Edited by T60_user on 11-09-2008 03:20 AM

Right when I log onto a particular Win 7 x64 system that performs as a file server I get a System Error 11 logged:

The specific drive is a Western Digital 2 TB MyBook 1140 USB drive attached via USB3 connection, and apparently has something to do with being spun down.  It won't log the above error if it's already spun up.
The system drive is a RAID 5 array of SSDs managed by Intel RST.  No part of RST seems to even know about the backup drive, so I doubt this is an issue.
I'm not sure why Explorer or anything should be trying to access this particular drive when I log in, nor why it being spun down should cause an error even if something does access it.  It's a pretty lean system, without very much that runs upon
logon.
I have the latest Western Digital drivers, and the drive is otherwise perfectly healthy.  Every 3 hours a backup runs and it logs no errors at that time - just when I log into the system interactively, either by RDP or locally on the console.
I prefer to have my systems run error-free, and this is one of two classes of errors I'm trying to eliminate (the other being a recurring registry access error logged by Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems unrelated).

Any ideas?

-Noel

I bought a Samsung SH-S202N DVD Writer. I installed it properly but whenever I insert a CD or DVD into it Windows hangs (nothing happens, even the mouse pointer doesn't move, Task Manager can't open, dead nothing). Checking Event Viewer I found the following: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0." When I remove the media from the drive Windows ceases hanging. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.
P.S: I don't think it's the IDE cables, I've already replaced them 3 times but no change.

Is that the only drive on that IDE cable?

Basically I'm looking into upgrading the 16GB mSATA SSD in my y580 to a 128GB one so I can install Windows and other programs on it to run faster while still haveing the 1TB 5400rpm HDD for everything else. I was just wondering, does the Y580 support mSATA III speeds? and if not then what speed mSATA SSD will it support? Also any suggestions or recommendations what mSATA SSD I should get. Thanks in andvance (:

Answer:Does the Y580 have a mSATA II or mSATA III?

It is SATA III, but after I put Mushkin mSATA III 120gb drive, the fastest I could ever see in HD Tunes was 270mb/sec with 236mb/sec average, however ATTO benchmark showed 550mb/sec at 256kb+ chunks:  P.S. you probably will have to reinstall Windows from scratch (and I don't believe it would be illegal for us download .iso from non-official places since we already bought it with the laptop and Lenovo failed provide us with ability creating backup disks)

Hi
My laptop presently has a 32gb mSATa SSD and 1TB HDD installed in raid configuration, with the OS installed the mSATA.
I wish to replace the 32gb mSATA with a 240gb mSATA, retaining the 1TB HDD
Could someone advise me on the best way to go about this please?
The laptop only has one mSATA slot / one SATA slot for the HDD.
My initial thought was that I could clone the 32gb mSATA to the 1TB HDD, then swap over the mSATA's, sticking the 240gb one in - and then copy the cloned drive from the 1TB HDD over to the 240gb mSATA. But now I see that they are in RAID configuration, so not too sure I can do that.
thanks

Answer:How do I clone mSATA to mSATA?

Make an image of the msata to and external drive with something like Acronis
make a rescue disk to boot the Laptop from
swap out the msata drives
boot from the rescue disk and restore the image to the new msata drive.

Hi! I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop and my DVD drive doesn't seem to be working. I tried it with various CDs and DVDs and it never detects anything. So I went to the Device Manager and this is what it says:
TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA cannot start (Code 10).

I checked the driver and it tells me its updated already. I tried restarting it multiple times but no difference.

Help?

Answer:CD not detected. Error 10.

Hi Melawrghk, welcome to the board.
You may first try to go to Toshiba support website and download the appropriate firmware for the drive. Let's hope flashing the firmware will take care of the problem. Good luck.

Since upgrading from win 7 pro 64 bit O/S to Win 10 Pro 64 bit (c.10 months ago) I have experienced the manifestation of a number of errors with respect to boot/start up and Live Mail shut down - all persist to this day. The most annoying is the apparent "CPU fan not detected error 511 press F1 to boot".Pressing F1 to boot works every time and the machine, from this point, runs well. I use WiFi for my internet connections and this works fine too. However, there appears to be nothing wrong with the fan, i.e. it spins absolutely fine - that is, once it kicks into life after hitting the F1 key. It never misses a beat. If I do a restart or a shutdown, when the HP Logo pops up it is followed by the eror message: a little earlier the restart did not provoke this error message, but recently it also resulted in the now familiar message being displayed.Hp diagnostics - included on my machine - indicates I should run a hardware check. Sadly I do not have the essential option to do this as it was included in a bios update for Win 7 which I missed and have since upgraded to Win 10 and I am unable to run the hardware test as a result. Current BIOS version is 8.17 it should be 8.20 according to latest HP data (for, specifically, Win 7 - not Win 10). My instincts tell me updating the BIOS now will cause issues. The fan meantime runs perfectly quietly and is very clean - i.e. dust free and, in any event, the machine is under two years old - at point of delivery - ... Read more

Answer:Error, No battery is detected

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. I suggest you try reseating ( take out the battery and put it back ) your battery once and restart your computer. You can also try updating your Bios using the below link. Make sure you have the battery and the AC adapter connected to the system when performing this step.
www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats
I also suggest you check Dell Quickset on how your Battery is performing. If you do not have Dell Quickset, use the below link to install it.

Hi all, some weeks ago i bought an thinkpad edge 11 (2545 A12) and have a problem with my battery. The problem illustrated by the fact that Windows is shutting down without a warning. The reason for this is that Windows gets the information that a battery problem or an empty battery is available. When I run Windows back then, I get the message that Windows had just been shut down because of empty batteries. Also during the charging process I get such an error that does not end in hibernation. The PowerBar then shows me a red X over the battery icon or three minus signs, and the mouse over "error detected". Unfortunately I get no further information because of the power manager needs to long for loading and it will disappear. A few days ago I called the support hotline and got a new battery. Then it looked as if the problem had been solved, but Not a chance yesterday when I got back the battery charging icon. A prerequisite for this behavior seems to be activated Bluetooth.I hope someone can help me. Thanks!

Your battery is dead and must be replaced.

Use the machine with no battery installed until you source the replacement one,  running a ThinkPad with a dead battery is likely to damage the charging circuit.

I tried looking throuhg the other postings but did not find one the same so here I go. I am running Windows 2000 with updated weekly symantec anti-virus. Apparently within the last week a trojan virus was detected - actually nine files were found which I quarenteened (SP?). Anyway whenever I bring up internet explorer my home page is directed to any-finder. I change this to yahoo and then as I am on line multiple sites begining opening in the background (Smartfinder.com is the one that actually stops where I am and comes up) I have to hit F1 and then hold control/right click to delete. I can see other sites opened (porn typically) and ocassionally come up. I tried getting online to see about problem and have started in safemode/run antivirus numerous times with still no avail. Today definitley was the alst straw as my mother-in-law was over and instead of macy's a nice porn site came up. Anyway both my wife and I use the computer from home for work and log into our work computers and are concerned aboput spreading any viruses even though I know both are offices are pretty hi-tech with computer security. Please any and all help would be welcome - as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!!

While cleaning an XP Pro 2002 SP3 computer when I get to the step for running ComboFix I receive the following dialog box:

"Warning!!"
ComboFix has detected the following real time scanner(s) to be active:

antivirus: Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper
antivirus: VirusRanger 3.2

Antivirus and intrusion prevention prevention programs are known to interfere with ComboFix's running. This may lead to unpredictable results or possible machine damage.

Please disable these scanners before clicking 'OK'.Click to expand...

I have searched both BleepingComputer and Major Geeks for similar questions, with no luck in finding an answer. As far as I can tell the VirusRanger 3.2 has been completely cleaned from the computer, including Registry Entries. And, WebRoot is not active, I need to re-install it..

Where is ComboFix finding the entries to report them as active?

Thanks

Hi there. Just continue on then despite the warning. Combo is just finding remnants from those programs.

Hi all:

The CPU fan for my Dell Dimension 2350 desktop computrer stopped working and I got the BIOS error "Alert: CPU fan not detected". So I replaced the CPU fan and the fan works good but now I get this error message when ever I turn my PC on. When I press the power button, I get the Dell logo and I get the Phoenix-Award BIOS screen with the error message "Alert: CPU fan not detected. Press F1 to continue,F2=SETUP,......". When I press F1 the system continues to boot fine and the Pc works fine. My CPU is cooling fine also

The error message is very annoying aand I want to remove it or resolve the issue Please help

Answer:CPU fan not detected error message

I doubt you can "remove" the alert. There might be an option in the BIOS to disable it, but I doubt it. Is the cpu fan connected to the correct fan header on the motherboard? There is likely several fan headers on the MB, but only one labeled cpu. And does the fan have the correct number of wires? There are typically 3 wires on cpu fans, the third wire is used to monitor fan rpm.

My X60 has been having weird battery symptoms over the past few days. The ThinkVantage Message Center today has a bunch of "A battery error is detected" messages (note that there's no "catastrophic" mentioned, so I don't think it's the same as the other errors I've seen when searching);A few times, the battery status icon has shown only hyphens or blank instead of the usual percentage (it's now saying '100%' and green, so I can't do a screen capture). This seems to "fix" itself when the computer sleeps/wakes up, or just randomly. I am unable to find any event that causes or stops this behavior.Any idea how to diagnose the problem? Is my battery about to go bad? The whole system is about 1 year old; I'm either just past or about to pass my warranty period.

Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me. My sons computer suddenly stopped providing a signal to the monitor.

I checked all the cables and everything is connected OK.

The lights come on and the fans start up but no signal is getting to the monitor. It's not beeping or anything like that and there are no flashing lights to give me any indication as to what is wrong.

I've tried a new graphics card and that hasn't slowed it either. Really stumped and honestly can't afford to take it to anyone to fix it for me.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No signal detected error

First of all, it would really help if you posted all of the system specs. If this is a big box system ie dell, hp, whatever, post the exact brand, model# and service tag# If this is a custom build, post the exact motherboard, cpu, pw supply, etc, etc.
Next have you tried another monitor OR tried your monitor on a known working system to see if the monitor in fact works?

The next step would be to attempt some basic troubleshooting. Do the following;
1 System OFF, open the case and pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical
2 Remove any add-in cards ie sound, nic/lan, etc. Leave the video card installed however be sure it is fully seated
3 Reseat both atx and aux pw connectors on the motherboard. Reseat ram chips as well. Again be sure everything is fully seated
4 Disconnect any usb device ie printer, scanner, hub, etc. Leave the keyboard connected however be sure it is connected to a rear motherboard port and not a front case port
5 Clear cmos with the clear jumper. Return jumper to the normal or keep position
6 Now pw ON and see if the mb will POST. If it does, then shutdown and start connecting devices one at a time until you find the failed part. If the board does not POST, then you will need to swap parts with known good units ie pw supply, motherboard, ram, etc until you find the failed part

I have a Edge 13 for one month by now, with i3 processor.Every worked great, battery life was decent and no problems occurred whatsoever. But lately I noticed my battery's charge jumped from 20% to 6% within a second. Still, my battery worked fine so I let it go.  But today suddenly the Power manager says "Error detected" and the windows battery manager says battery at 0%. Still if I unplug, the system runs well, so for the moment I can use my battery, although not knowing how much my battery is charged and I don't know if it will recharge when empty.  I have tried to run the firmware update, but the program says "This system is not supported for this update". My system is a regular (Dutch) installation of WIndows 7, the original one that came with my Edge. So I can't install the firmware update, I can't install a BIOS update (because the battery has to be fully charged) and I can't control how the battery should be charged, I don't even know the charge at any moment.  I hope somebody could help me because I bought the Edge 13 to be as mobile as possible, so without a decent battery, I'm lost.

Answer:Battery error detected

your battery might just need calibrated.  use power manager to do a cycle on it. it discharges it then charges it.

When a user tries to print an email (from Outlook 2000) that has Word 2000 attachments, he gets the error "ambiguous name detected".

Anyone have any ideas ?

Answer:ambiguous name detected error

Is that the complete error message?

I did a search on MS Knowledge base for ambiguous name detected and it came up with 15 articles.

It seems that the Word attachment contains a Macro that has the same name of an existing Macro, and therfore, the application is confused on what it is supposed to open.
That's the only thing I came up with, so sorry if none of it helps!

We have a Z420 that will not boot.  It returns: 929-Fatal MCA error.CB0/LLC0 error detected CPU 0Memory hierachy error The Manual has no suggested fix.  Any Ideas? Thanks!

Answer:929-Fatal MCA Error detected CPU 0

This could either be a memory failure (try reseating it, moving it to a different slot, or removing or replacing the memory), or a possible CPU failure.  (The system is reporting a CPU machine check error, but it could be caused by memory issues).  Go into Computer Management, then click on Event Viewer, Windows Logs, and System.  Are there any WHEA warnings listed under Source?  An easier way to find them is to Filter Current Log, and select Critical, Warning, Verbose, and Error to filter out the (many) Information entries. If the memory is OK, reseating the CPU might help, but this can be tricky.  The CPU socket pins are very easily bent during the removal or install process, and extrememly difficult or impossible to repair if damaged.  Also, when the CPU heatsink is removed, clean off the thermal paste on both the CPU and heatsink, and use new paste.  The paste hardens, and does not give good thermal conductivity if the heatsinks is removed and the paste is not replaced.  The CPU operating temperature can increase by 10 deg. C or more.  FYI. If the system is under warranty, contact HP so they can fix it.

I have a new (refurbished) Z620 with a Quadro M4000 8gb, 32 gb RAM, Windows 10.  The processor is an Intel Xeon [email protected] GHz, 8 Cores.

The BIOS is HP J61 v3.90, 6/1/2016.

I noticed that when I left the computer for a while, I'd come back to find a black screen with this error:

929 Fatal MCA Error; MLC Error Detected CPU 0.  Internal timeout error Watchdog Timer (3 strike).

Reading about what this could possibly be is a little scary; got all set to run memory diagnostics and re-seat the proc (or send it back under warranty), but I noticed that the crash only happened when I left for a while.

I checked the power settings, and saw that "Sleep" mode was enabled, timed for 30 minutes or so of no activity.  I changed this to 5 minutes and hung out a while, and it crashed with the same message.  I changed it to "Never", and it has been on ever since (two days and counting).

In my case, I don't think it is a hardware error at all.  I did run some memory diagnostics (Windows) and found no errors.  I will boot from a USB and run MemTest overnight to be sure - but I think the hardware is fine.

From what I have read, this is sometimes a problem of power reaching the CPU or the RAM; if it happens when the computer goes to sleep, that'd make sense.

I never use these automatic sleep settings anyway, so it's not really an issue except that it's wrong and ... Read more

Hello,My XPsp2 system has two hard disks, partitioned as follows: C:SystemP:Program FilesD: DataO: Other DataandS: SwapFileV: Vault DataW: Vault TwoI: Drive Images(Both these disks are virtually new.)Frequently, my system freezes (I think I have a defective SATA connection on my mainboard--but I'm not positive) which produces a message in event viewer:"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation."There is as you can see however, no "D" partition on disk 2. I have been going on the assumption that "D" (2) means the "second" partition on drive 2, but since I am not at all sure about this, it leaves me with no option but to run chkdsk on ALL FOUR partitions--which is very time consuming. (As I said, this happens a lot.) Can anyone tell me how to correctly interpret this message? At lest then I can be certain I am fixing the correct partition.(--And can Microsoft please give a little more thought to its "messages"?)All the best,Phrixos

Answer:"error detected on device"

It may be that your HD is on it's way out. I would suggest that you back up all your data that is on this drive just in case.

"Aol has detected an error with its software"

This is one of 2 thigns wrong with my comptuer right now. Long story short i upgraded to win 2k on this system and after updating modem and os aol seems to be giving me errors. I can log on to aol but it takes 3 tries. It keeps telling me looking for host and resolving host and says somethign about tcp/ip when i dial up.

Specs
Modem us robotics 56k 3cp5699a v 90
win 2k

When i had win 98 installed it worked fine but now aol is erroring during log on. I cannot browse other aol services and or browse the net through aol.

What ive tried:
I uninstalled aol, reloaded aol 7.0

Tried to get on microsoft.com website to update internet explorer 5.0 to 6.0

tried to load aol over existing aol

tried to e-mail aol support
All has not work or not be replied.

Would any one have any good ideas on how to get aol 7.0 complient with windows 2000??
Thanks
Dennis

Answer:Aol Has Detected An Error With Its Software

I suppose that it was broken but working, until before you upgraded to Win2k.

I'm not so sure that you need to bring AOL into compliance with anything at this point it AOL seems to be in control of the situation at least for the time being.

You might want to get an older AOL version in here ...

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=aol

see if it's not just the AOL version whatever number version AOL is up to by now, conflict again.

When attempting to install ntl's cd for ISP dial-up Norton displayed a warning about a dodgy script being detected. The only way of completing the install was to remove Norton and re-install it after I connected to the internet. However, my PC is crashing repeatedly when downloading the latest virus definitions and my monitor pixel resolutions are looking slightly fuzzy? Does anyone know how I can fix this? I'm running WinXP home edition. Thanks,Matt.
