Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

Question: Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

Trackpoint + dragging is still not working with the Ultranav middle button as of 16.2.19.2 driver. It's an extremely important function for any 3D graphics program. With the Lenovo driver it's not possible to use the middle button + trackpoint to navigate in these programs! Lenovo, please fix this bug. It's working perfectly if I install the latest Synaptics driver. It's only happening with Lenovo's driver. Using Synaptics driver is not an option, because it has no guard against keyboard typing + touchpad accidental clicking. Test:Testing is very easy.1. Set your middle button behaviour to "None".2. Above an empty area of your desktop, click the middle button + try to move the mouse pointer with your trackpoint. The pointer isn't moving! It's the same thing what happens in any 3D graphics program! You cannot navigate your camera, unless you use an external mouse! Fix:Please fix it. Just don't stop the trackpoint pointer when someone clicks the middle button in "None" settings. System: Using a W520 for the reference.

Preferred Solution: Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

I am not a professional CAD user, but I too want to be able to use the middle button as if it were a normal mouse. There is a lot of software that utilize the middle mouse button and can't handle the silly scroll feature. Did you find a work around? You mentioned something about Synaptics.

I recently installed Windows 8 on my Thinkpad X220, and downloaded the latest Ultranav drivers from the Lenovo support website. In prior versions of these drivers (which I have used under Windows XP and Windows 7) it was possible to set the middle mouse button to do something other than scroll - I used to set it to act as a third mouse button as this is quite handy for tab management in web browsers. However, in the latest drivers, this option appears to be missing, I can only adjust sensitivity and set 'tap to click' options. I tried using the older driver which was intended for Windows 7 only, but this seemed to cause some problems with Windows 8 such as high CPU usage when the system was idle. Does anyone know how to get these options back with the new drivers?

Answer:Windows 8 Ultranav driver and middle mouse button settings

Ugh a thousand times this. In the previous version of the drivers on Windows 7, you could disable the scroll/zoom functions on the TrackPoint middle button so you could use it as Middle Mouse Click, but that option seems to have been removed in the latest version on Windows 8, which is EXTREMELY frustrating. At the moment I'm using the tap zones as a bit of a work-around, but I really want middle click back.

Hey folks, The middle button for trackpoint doesn't work. All drivers are up to date. Middle button is enabled for scrolling, not clicking. Middle button works when switched over for clicking. It just randomly stopped working last week, but it works when I switch it over to clicking in the settings tool. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. Iīve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? This issue is really annoying, otherwise I love the X230 tablet!

I just got a T500 to replace my dead R51. One of the things I really liked about my old Thinkpad was that I could use the middle trackpoint button as a third mouse button, which is great for opening links in new tabs in Firefox or copy/pasting in console windows. However as far as I can tell the only options in the mouse configuration are "Scroll", "Zoom", and "Neither", and neither just disables the button entirely. I should mention I'm using Windows Vista. Does anybody know how to fix this?

On my L420, i had it set so i can move the mouse with my thumb and scroll with my index finger with the center trackpoint button.

However, the Ultranav options are different for the W541, so, (as far as i can tell) i can't find the option to replicate this.

See screenshots of my configuration.

Basically, i want my center trackpoint button to be always in "scroll" mode, without the need to press the middle button and scroll like on the L420.

I am on a T400 machine and I recently switched to Windows 8.1 Preview.I'm having problems with the touchpad and buttons. It is acting strangely. The windows charms(Winkey+C) opens for no reason.I want to use my middle button to close tabs, smooth scrolling. Thanks in advance.

Answer:UltraNav middle button problem

I found a solution for the first problem.I had to DISABLE WINDOWS 8 GESTURES using this reg file:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Right Edge Pull]
"ActionType"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Left Edge Pull]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Right Edge Pull Extended Zone]
"ActionType"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Top Edge Pull]
"ActionType"=dword:00000000 just paste this to a notepad file and save it as something.reg and restart.I still don't know how to make the middle button close tabs, open new tabs and smooth scroll.

Hello,I am the owner of a new Lenovo X260 laptop and it is a beautiful computer (although I MUCH prefer the size of the keyboard of my old X220 and X230).   Anyway, I am having a huge issue where when I use the ultranav middle button to scroll, Cortana pops up. I also have this issue with the right side of my finger pad where my right palm rests and the bottom right corner of my keyboard. There is a very noticeble creek when any slight pressure is applied. It was fine when I bought it new and now there is this annoying creek noise where my right hand rests. Can anyone shed some light on mine and ctenorman's issues with this creek noise?

I am not a fan of the new "clickpad", I'm a long time ThinkPad user so my pointing device of choice is the Trackpoint (eraser).  I've set the control panel on this for "Trackpoint Only", and at least the virtual buttons are useable now.  HOWEVER... the "middle button" seems to be stuck in only the "scroll" mode.  The latest control panel doesn't seem to have an option to set it as "normal middle button" - it is just doing this scrolling thing.  I would like to set the middle click action to a regular "middle click", not scrolling.  Anyone know if there is a registry key or some other way to do this, and not the scrolling thing? Thanks!

Hi, If i move the bar all the way to Firm Touch the scrolling works just fine. But as soon as i put it on 3rd position or move it further more to the Light Touch, then the scrolling goes just too fast, it's really hard to control it, if you want to scroll like - half the page in google chrome. So my question is how to fix this? How to lower the sensitivity of the scroll?  If i change the number of lines to be scrolled with 1 scroll, nothing happens. Best regards.Tastro

Answer:How to lower the scroll speed for the middle UltraNav button? (X230t)

Hi, Tastro

Have you ensured that you are running the latest BIOS and version of the UltraNav driver? I just tested the scrolling with the TrackPoint on an X230 and didn't find controlling the speed too difficult. It could be that the driver is either out of date or could be having issues. In either case, I would recommend either an update or a reinstalltion, depending on the current version. Both the BIOS and the UltraNav driver can be found here.

Best,
Adam

I usually use the trackpoint(red button on keyboard, I think it's called the trackpoint) to move the cursor, and use the buttons below it to click. When I first got the computer (An R60), the middle button below the spacebar was a great way to scroll, but then one day it stopped working. Whenever I would push the middle button, the trackpoint would freeze and only scroll (The buttons on either side of it still worked though.). The only way I could move the cursor was by the touchpad or by turning the computer off and starting it back up. I tried going into the mouse settings and fixing this, double-clicking the middle button when it froze to see if it would stop, but nothing worked. I finally gave up on it, but I thought I might ask here to see if anybody can help me. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I guess I need to stop installing drivers...  I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion).  Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore!  It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings.  I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll  I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

When using a wheel mouse with SketchUp, pressing the wheel allows to orbit the drawing. But when I use the trackpoint, pressing the middle button zooms in/out. How can I change the behavior to be like a wheel mouse? I tried changing TP4table.dat, adding the line *,*,SketchUp.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9 in the 'Pass 0 rules' section, and restarting SynTPEnh, but this didn't cause a change. I also have a ThinkPad USB keyboard with trackpoint. The driver files seem to be under "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint", but I can't find TP4table.dat there, so what is the solution for this?

Hi,I am used from my t500 to click and hold middle button on the Ultranav and move up and down with the touchpad to scroll up and down. However, this does not work on my t510 anymore. At least it does work sometimes for some seconds in google chrome; but just for some short moments. The default behaviour is, that when i'm clicking the middle button the scroll symbol in form of a little scrollbar appears. I can then scroll by using the trackpoint, but not by using the touchpad. Using the touchpad has just the effekt, that the symbol disappears.Sometimes another symbol appears; its the symbol with the arrows pointing in all direktions. Only when this symbol appears i am able to scroll by moving on the touchpad. Now i am looking for a solution to my problem.by the way: when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad is locked for some seconds. Is there a way to disable this? Best Greets, matthias.

The middle trackpoint button of my keyboard stopped to work (it has to be pressed very hard). I took picture of it showing what exactly was broken.   Notice that the black plastic part got separated from the base metal plate causing the middle button stopped to work.I just want to share it because it might be a quality issue. I contacted local Lenovo service and got a new keyboard replacement. Unfortunately it is different (compatible) part number. The new keyboard 45N2219 has much more soft feel than the old one 45N2149

For some reason randomly when I turn on my computer after it gets done loading Windows XP (gets to the log in menu) my T60 ThinkPad Laptop's mouse will no longer work.  After I restart it then it seems to work fine.  I can't find any specific drivers for it to download to try and resolve this issue either.  Any ideas? Also, this laptop was used by someone before me and they formatted the harddrive so I lost my ThinkVantage restore stuff so I can't restore the laptop to its factory settings.  Is there a place I can download that or at least set it up by hand? I am hoping if I have that option it will fix the mouse issue as well.  Thanks!

Answer:T60 UltraNav and TrackPoint not working after boot up

Hello, please go to Lenovo support page. And download MS NET 2.0 and System Updater. First I would suggest to update only your ultranav driver, for trackpoint and touchpad. But donīt update all at once and be aware, also bios updates, which may be not necessary are offered there. If you are in warranty till now, try to call Lenovo hotline and they might send you the R&R discs for free.Otherwise you have to pay.  Message Edited by Agotthelf on 02-12-2008 08:16 AM

Got a strange one on my X201T.  For some reason I can't fathom, my laptop's Trackpoint, Touchpad and all their associated buttons do not work when I log into my laptop - they did before but in the last few days, they've stopped.  My external USB still works fine when connected. However, if, for example, I do 'ctrl-alt-del' and lock the laptop, they start working again until the moment I'm logged back in.  Also, If I log in on a Guest account, they all work fine!  This suggests it's not the hardware, I think. I've looked at the Control Panel / Mouse dialogue and the options under the UltraNav tab are all greyed out - but they are not on the Guest account.  Somehow, my user account on the laptop is not allowing me to use the Trackpoint, etc. My external USB mouse works fine in all accounts, btw. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.  I've updated drivers through Lenovo update (though none seemed related to this problem). Any thoughts how I can fix this?

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

After some recent UltraNav driver updates I have lost cursor and use of the trackpad and trackpoint. The yellow triangle shows up in device manager as the drivers cannot identify the hardware. I've tried uninstall/reinstall and rolling back to older drivers to no avail. This happened originally after an update on 1/26. I had to uninstall drivers, cleaned registrty keys, ran windows update, ran TVSU to reinstall drivers and that worked for a week. Then another update pushed on 2/9 knocked out the Trackpad again.  The device in enabled in both the control panel and BIOS. Disable/Reboot/Enable did not work. Rollback of drivers to 2 or 3 previous versions did not work. Thankfully I have the touch screen or my 15 month old T440 would be entirely useless. Anyone have similar issues and/or solution??

Hi all, I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430. After reinstalling Windows 7, System update and all drivers, my trackpoint doesn't work. Itīs disabled and there is no way of getting it to work. I have unistalled, cleaned the registry and reinstalled the driver from the official driver web page, from within system update,... no way.  The other problem is with the SD Reader. I use a 32Gb SD card for backup purposes and a week ago simply itīs like the reader does not exist anymore. The devide administrator does have all drivers installed, but the reader is not working (of course, I have checked that the card is working and with all data in other PC). I have also unistalled and installed the driver, but again no way. Any help is really welcome. Thanks in advance,

Answer:Ultranav trackpoint not working, SD reader vanished. Thinkpad EDGE S430

Hi, petodow

For the TrackPoint issue, I would try installing the Synaptics driver from here. Synaptics is the company that makes UltraNav, so there shouldn't be any loss of functionality.

As for the SD card reader, there is a BIOS update that was released five days ago that may help. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have a T510 that I got a  couple of months ago, and I have been using the Trackpoint middle button for scrolling in Firefox, until a couple of days ago when this feature  inexplicably stopped working. I've tried restarting my computer, making sure the Trackpoint settings are set to enable scrolling, updating my drivers, but nothing seems to be able to bring it back. Has anyone else had problem like this (where the Trackpoint scrolling unexpectedly stops working) or know of any other reasons for why it would stop working?

Answer:Trackpoint Middle Scroll Not Working

Are the processes SynTPEnh.exe, SynTPHelper.exe, and SynTPLpr.exe running? Advanced UltraNav features fail to work if these aren't running. You may have disabled them in MSConfig or another startup program cleaner. Does hitting the middle button trigger the conventional middle mouse button?

I just want to report that the newest touchpad driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling. What I'm talking is this:1. Swich off all advanced features in the TouchPoint setting to get back a middle button. BTW, how on earth it is possible that the default setting "steals" the middle button. Going for the Nr. 1. PC maker and forgetting a stupid default settings in a Synaptics driver is a joke.  2. Now, try scrolling in any native windows application like Chrome, Firefox, etc. The quick way of scrolling is to push the middle button while scrolling. It had always worked before. Now this way is broken. Now, the only way for scrolling is to the:1. push middle button to enter scolling mode2. move mouse3. push again to exit scrolling mode This scolling mode has never been a good way to scroll, but the quick way is broken with the latest driver. I'm using a W520 with Windows 7, 64-bit. Broken driver: Version 16.2.5.0

I have a similar problem as the OP: after today's update, my Touchpad is not functioning properly anymore. Scrolling of any sort on the Touchpad seems to have been disabled. As I do not have a mouse attached, I am forced to use the Trackpoint set's middle button and then move my cursor around to scroll. I checked my Control Panel settings and both two-finger and single-finger Touchpad scrolling are enabled via the settings. Also I don't know if this is relevant, but it seems like the option to double-tap to bring up Lenovo SimpleTap has also randomly been disabled... W530, Windows 7 x64.

I want the middle click on my Ultranav to behave like a middle click on a physical mouse does, where pressing down brings up the windows scroll thingy and makes me be able to open links in new tabs and close tabs. I don't see an option to do that. How can I change it?

Hi All, I am very upset as my new x61's TrackPoint and Touchpad Button are not working at all... This is my first Thinkpad Notebook. I really have no idea why is that? I have downloaded and installed the driver for Trackpoint and system reboots. And i update the drive from device manager. But the problem still existed.... I am so disappointed... Is there anyone have the same problem? Or can someone give me some help on this!??? By the way, i am using vista business version of OS.... Thanks J.

Answer:TrackPoint and touchpad button are not working, HELP~~~

Wowzer J, that sounds frustrating. It is odd if you have a brand new X61 that the TrackPoint is not working. Did you just buy it from Lenovo? What exactly do you mean by "not working at all"? Even if the Lenovo drivers are not working, Vista includes drivers which will enable you to use the TrackPoint. One of the tricky things abou the Lenovo software downloads is that many of them require you to download, double click the downloaded software to extract it, then navigate to the extracted software folder to run the setup.exe to install it. The TrackPoint drivers first extract to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TRACKPT.V32. You have to go there to run setup.exe. I'm also assuming that you really have an X61 and mis-spoke when you mentioned Touchpad. The X61 does not have a touchpad.

Have you got another mouse to try. Maybe the left button has become worn out, or the contacts have become soiled.

Hey there. Recently I reinstalled the Sims 2 and many expansion packs on my computer. I have HP Pavilion Entertainment PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit operating system. I connected the mouse I had bought and realized it wasn't working. The middle mouse button works fine outside of the sims 2 games. But when I get to the neighborhood and even the houses, I can't use it at all. It's like it just shuts off. The rest of the mouse works perfectly fine. I've read some things about Logitech mouses doing this but mine is an HP Compfort mouse so I can't do what they say to fix it. I've tried everything I can think of. Any suggestions? If I've left anything out I'll answer your questions.

I have an IBM T40 laptop. I have been having problems with the mouse properties. I opened up the advanced properties for the mouse and selected the UltraNav tab. I keep selecting the "Standard Scroll" option but it never stays. It keeps doing the smooth scrolling. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, I can get the standard scroll option to stay. But then after a while longer it reverts back by itself. It usually happens when something disrupts my wireless internet connection. I have downloaded all the latest drivers that I could find from the IBM website. What is messing this up?

My middle scroll button stopped working, and as I was looking around for a solution, I noticed that I couldn't drag items using the left button (above the touch pad) and the trackpoint.  I restarted the laptop and now neither the middle button nor the left button work!  The right one does though.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ultra nav stuff and have downloaded the synaptics driver (?) but it still isn't working.  In the mouse options, for the middle button scrolling is enabled.  I know i still have other options available for left clicking, however I've gotten used to using this button and the fact that it's not available is sort of driving me nuts.  Can anyone help me fix this issue?  Please note I'm not very tech-y, so simple and easy terms/instructions would be highly appreciated! Also, some people suggested hitting the Fn+F8 button...I've tried that and it doens't do anything. Thanks ever!

Hi, Recently I had to reformat my T61p and reinstall everything from scratch. Before the format, UltraNav worked without any problems even when I was using my wireless BT mouse (Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000) together with UltraNav + latest version of the Microsoft IntelliPoint software. I could switch from the wireless mouse to UltraNav seemlessly. After formatting, I've installed all the latest drivers for Windows 7 64-bit from the Lenovo web site, and after that, UltraNav started to work erraticaly. Basically, what happens is that although the mouse pointer moves around when I use either the TouchPad or TrackPoint, the click action doesn't always work (I have to press several times for it to actually click) and most of the times, instead of just clicking, it actually sticks to the selected item and if I move it, it performs a dragging actions, as if I was pressing and dragging the mouse pointer. Sometimes, if I go to the ultranav properties and reselect the click and right click actions in the UltraNav settings, it starts working properly, but after some use, it goes back to the erratic behaviour. The only way I can use the mouse properly is by using my external mouse. I've tried rolling back to the previous version of the ultranav drivers (18), but still have the same behaviour. It works fine for some time, and after some use, it goes back to misbehaving. Has anyone seen this before and is there any fix at al... Read more

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

I have successfully downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver and utility for Windows 7 on a T61 ThinkPad.  However, the UltraNav tab is not visible under Control Panel, Mouse Properties. Under Mouse properties and Device Manager it shows a PS/2 mouse, which I do not have connected.  Could this be causing a problem with the utility? The issue I'm trying to resolve is the cursor jumps around constantly and it's very Frustrating.  I've spent hours reseaching the problem and have determined the solution is to adjust the sensitivity of the TouchPad, if only I could get to the utility.

I'm at a loss as to where the options are to tweak the UltraNav pointer and touchpad on my Win7, 64-bit W530. I did a fresh Win7 install on it and have downloaded all the drivers (plus run the System Update utility), and while the UltraNav Driver is properly installed and working, I don't see any place to download the UltraNav UTILITY.  This is my fifth or sixth ThinkPad, and one of my favorite things is the UltraNav pointing stick combined with the touchpad. I like to change the effort required on the pointing stick, and then use the touchpad for slow motion and constrained motion controls. These settings have always been accessible under a tab on the Mouse control panel after installing the UltraNav Utility. I thought maybe the UltraNav Driver included the utility, but I can't find any way to access the old controls I'm so accustomed to having over the pointing devices.  Any ideas what I may be missing? My service ticket with Lenovo has been open for two weeks now with no response, so I thought I'd try my luck here. Thank you!!

The driver alone should be providing the UltraNav tab in Mouse properties. Give it an uninstall/reinstall.As far as I can tell, UltraNav Utility is the popup menu for enabling/disabling TrackPoint/touchpad upon Fn+F8 on older models.

Hello all

my first post here, so be gentle.

So I would like to change the behaviour of the 'scroll' button above the trackpad so it has the function of the middle mouse click.

So in other words: the button marked on the picture should act as middle mouse:

I searched the UltraNav options but could not find what I was looking for. As far as I could find, this button can only be used to scroll (in combination with the red button).

Thanks for your advice on this matter.

I reccently bought a T61p with Vista. I am a double arm amputee. I type with a prosthetic hook. I'm a big Thinkpad fan. This is  my third Thinkpad. One of the best features of the Thinkpad is the Trackpoint. The touchpads don't work with a prosthetic hook, which is why the Trackpoint is so valuable to me. The problem I'm experiencing is that the Press-to-select feature with Enable Dragging dosn't seem to work on my new T61p. I'm thinking it's a problem with the Vista drivers as my older T41 with XP using this fearure works. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have had the same problem trying to disable press to select on a T60 with XP.  Fn-F8 should give access to all the properties of the trackpoint however I have discovered that you have to have both the trackpoint and the ultranav enabled in your bios - for some reason without the ultranav enabled it does not show all of the trackpoint features.Jon

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

Hello, it could be that "the UltraNav utility enables the Fn-F8 shortcut when used in conjunction with the ThinkPad Hot Key Utility". Or it may provide "more fluid and comfortable crusor [sic] movement" (Googelberged from notebookreview forum).Another possibility could be, that it enables more detailed configuration of the touch pad. Greetings Tobias

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable. Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS. Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both? Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I've never seen such a feature with the UltraNav drivers. You could just max out the PalmCheck and then set it to touchpad only.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I found a software bug for synaptics driver.  I am using the latest: 18.0.7.40, 5/26/2014, windows 8.1. The bug is related to unreliable middle clicking (not to be confused with TpScroll ), when the user middle clicks on the trackpoint, the OS doesn't register it.  It is possible this is a settings issue, maybe it's a "feature".  If so, can someone provide instructions on how to change it. It seems the synaptics firmware will only pass a middle click to OS if the pointer moves at the same time.  I have not tried this on Linux. To reproduce errant behavior I (this will NOT register a middle click)1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS (I am using X-Mouse button control)3. with finger clear of trackpoint, middle click with thumb4. When I turned on my X41, it failed to respond to the TrackPoint button. I had to hook up a USB mouse. I downloaded the TrackPoint drivers from the Lenovo website and installed them. It prompted me to restart, which I did. When Windows came back up, TrackPoint still did not work. It prompted me to restart again, which I did. At this point it began working normally. However, if I shut the computer down or restart Windows, TrackPoint again ceases to function and I have to re-install the drivers, restart, and restart again to get it to work. I checked the ThinkPad Configuration and set it to both Automatic and Enable, neither worked. I check the BIOS and it is enabled there. It does not matter whether a USB mouse is connected at startup; it behaves the same either way. The error shown in the device manager is: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)." Windows XP SP 3.

Answer:TrackPoint stops working, having to repeatedly re-install driver

Exactly the same problem.  I get thi sthink out of the cupboard ebvery few months and fire it up to do some job or other and the trackpoint never works.  I get so tired of the thing I just usually put it away again but hey, it cost a lot of money and it shouold work. I playe the reloading driver game a year or two back but it makes no difference.  Loading  SP2 helped briefly and I'd load SP3 if I could get the darned thing to do anything. I guess I'll have to take a USB mouse home and try things out.

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad T61 XP Downgrade NO AUDIO and NO SCROLL BUTTON (MIDDLE BUTTON of the 3 Above track pad)

Welcome to the forum, The latest drivers (audio, UltraNav) for the T61 can be found here. Other than that, when you say that you are not able to install the audio drivers, what error message do you get? Thank you

I think I have a faulty X230T, there are now only three tablet buttons and the middle does not do anything. I have installed 7wg737.exe (tablet short menu for Win7), but it does nothing. When I go into Tablet PC setting>buttons, only one button shows up and that's the screen rotation button.  Is there a way to assign the middle button to shortcut menu? Otherwise I'm unable to change brightness or volumn during tablet mode which would make this tablet unusable.

Hi, I refer to the trackpoint properties in cpanel -> mouse -> ultranav tab -> trackpoint pane -> settings -> choose scrolling or magnifying glass function. When this is set to scrolling I can hold down the middle button and move the trackpoint to emulate scrolling which is very useful. But I can't middle click. When I set this to neither obvious I can middle click but I can't scroll. I'm just wondering if it is possible to enable both of these functionalitites simultaneously?

Answer:enabling both middle-button scrolling AND third-button click

tell me  how would your computer know whether you wanted it to perform a click or a scroll?  thats why there has to be two buttons for two things incidentally, if you have it set to scrollling, it WILL click on links! it will also open anew tab for the link, or shut a tab, in firefox, if you click on the tab bar with it  it seems to be a scroller on things that can scroll, and a clicker on things that can click    works for me anyways!  other than that, if you can only handle one mouse button go buy yourself a mac! ....only joking!

Hi, Anyone knows how to configure left and right button to work together to emulate middle button?, ie when pressing down both left and right button, it functions as middle button? Simon

Answer:Left and right button combo to emulate middle button?

Hello mate, Nop it's not possible, You can choose what each button do, but not both together. If you want you can enable Tapping zone for the touch pad and emulate the middle button tapping one corner of the touchpad.

Hi, I was wondering whether the ultranav button is caved in or caved out on the T400, as mine slumps in instead of the old ones I've seen, which sticks out rounded.

Answer:UltraNav button cave in?

Hi idoraemon, T400's keyboard looks pretty much same as T60/T61. Please contact local lenovo for inspection if could not work properly.Fred

My sister just got the Edge 14 model from Best Buy, but the left mouse button below the touchpad makes intermittent contact and has to be pressed much more firmly than the right button.  It is nearly unusable.  Is this a simple fix?  We're trying to decide whether to bring it in for warranty service or just to exchange it at Best Buy.

Answer:ultranav button problems

Weber,

While I'm sure the issue is long resolved, if the button seems to have a mechanical problem it will most likely require service to fix.  On some models, the touchpad and buttons can be replaced by the customer along with the palmrest.

Service can advise.  You can call support, or visit a local business partner or point of purchase - Best Buy in this case.

Best regards,

Mark

I seems to have a problem with the left ultranav button on my T400s.  Some time when I press it the system think it is the middle button (ultranav scroll button). I am trying to figure out if it me that is pressing the button the wrong way or it is a hardware defect on my T400s or a software defect in the driver. Is anybody else having the same sort of problem ?

My operating system is windows 10 Pro.
After updating the bios my built in speaker and touch-pad three button not working. Can anyone give me suggestion that how to overcome this problem.

Answer:Latitude 6430u Build in speaker not working and touch-pad button not working right button and bottom two button

Hello. Try re-installing the IDT audio driver.
Win10 is not supported by Dell on the Latitude 6430u so install the IDT 1.0.6491.0 driver using compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win7.
If the speakers still do not work, test them with the ePSA or the PSA audio test.
If the speakers pass the test and still do not work, try an earlier version of the BIOS. You can get links to all 11 versions of the BIOS here.  That page also has all the touchpad drivers.
If doing that does not work, perform a system recovery and return the laptop to the operating system that was ... Read more

Hello, Does anyone know if there is a way to get the middle trackpoint button to work as a button instead of scrolling?  I use software that makes use of the middle button and would like to use it.  On older thinkpads there was a way to change the settings, but I don't see it on the T440s.  If there is no way to do it, is there a better place than here to advocate for such a function? Thanks

Answer:Use T440s middle button as a button

Try out TPMiddle.

Hi everyone, I am dealing with a problem with a Z61t.  Through my job I am familiar with most T and x series models starting from T20's/x40s right up to T510's/x201's but someone I know has a Z61t and they had a small water spillage over the keyboard/trackpad area.  ] Since then their left mouse button for the mouse pointer and the track pad have stopped working.  I took the keyboard and trackpad off and cleaned up the connections with no joy.  I then changed the trackpad/pointer to a left handed configuration then strangely the left mouse button on the trackpad and pointer started working (as the 'right click' option) but the right mouse button stopped working??  Obviously this points it to being a software setting.  I downloaded and re-installed the latest device drivers from the Lenovo website with no joy.  I also ensured on both configurations that the appropriate mouse button was configured for use as the 'Primary Click'  button but still no joy.  Any ideas?

Answer:Z61t - Ultranav mouse button issue

Hello mate, You should try to disable the touch pad, reboot an enable the touchpad again. Sometimes it works.

For some reason on my HP wireless mouse doesn't drag correctly. After experimenting with the mouse I found out it doesn't even hold down at all, it just sends the click signal over and over like the rapid fire mods do on an Xbox 360. Any way to fix this? I just returned the mouse and got a new one that has the same problem.

Answer:Mouse not dragging, rapidly sends click when button held down.

Did you try going to the Control Panel/Mouse and play around with the Mouse adjustment there?
Are your drivers up to date?

I don't know if I'm just being overly critical now or what, but I've started noticing more and more that my left TrackPoint button is loose - much looser than the right one.  I can feel it sort of rubbing against something when I press it (because it can move around) and it's just annoying.  The right button doesn't have that problem, but obviously I use the left one a lot more. Is this possible to fix myself if I open up the casing?  Has anyone else experienced this?

Answer:Loose TrackPoint button?

Bad keyboard perhaps? If I were you I'd ask lenovo for a keyboard replacement.

I just got my new X1, but found immediately that the buttons associated with trackpoint doesn't work. Actually only the left and middle buttons don't work, the right button works, so I guess it's not likely to be a software problem. Anyone has similar problem as this?

Answer:X1 trackpoint button problem

nope, you should have warranty still, just call up support and they should be able to help you, i.e. either to send you a keyboard for self replacement or send you off to the depot.

Does anybody know of any third party programs to allow you to custom configure the Trackpoint right button?  I would love to change it from a right click to a "Browser Back" button to allow for easy web surfing.  Wouldn't it be awesome if you could hit that without moving your hands off the keyboard to go back one page in your web browser?

Hi, my x120e's right TrackPoint button seems to be not working right, as I have to depress very hard in a certain way in order to do any right-clicking. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or maybe the little rubbery nib underneath the button itself? -Alan

Answer:x120e TrackPoint Right button issue

hey Anima42,it is hard to ascertain if what you're facing is hardware or something else.could you uninstall the UltraNav and then see if the right-button works ? If it does, reinstall UltraNav and test again.if this does not resolve, i suggest getting in contact with the tech support crew for their opinion via : http://www.lenovo.com/contact/us/en/

Hey,I was wondering what I would need to do to fix the trackpad mouse button on my computer. Here is my situation:I own a thinkpad z60m and recently the trackpad left mouse button (from the bottom set under the pad) was not going up. I figured it was a button like the keyboard ones so I tried to gently pry it off, clean it and push it back in. However, it didn't snap back in and so the button is now no longer functional. Is there anyway I can replace the part or fix what I already have? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Replace Trackpoint mouse button

Well I just removed the keyboard of my thinkpad today and I'm pretty shure you can replace the whole keyboard. Or at least getting the keyboard out might enable you to better fix the button. Have you tried that?

Can I set-up my TrackPoint's center button so that when I press it when my mouse is over a link, it'll open a new tab. Like can I set it so in Firefox, it'll be the button for "Open link in New Tab" so I won't have to right click then select that option? Currently I only see the ability to use it for scrolling and magnifying when used with the TrackPoint. I hope this makes sense. :/

Answer:TrackPoint Center button settings

It does make sense to me... I have totally the same problem. Surprisingly, you can fix it by uninstalling Thinkpad Ultranav Driver from programs and features...then your central button should work.... ...but this is of course not solution...as you lose various settings...  Lenovo, I tried to downgrade, upgrade and reinstall Synaptics drivers but nothing helped...only if I uninstall it, it closes and opens new tabs in web browsers. Also, in control panel, there is only option about sensitivity (I guess something is missing), I enclose screenshot to better understand it... I have Windows 8.1; maybe QuinnSF has also upgraded?

Does anyone have an idea what would be involved to mod a new ThinkPad (clickpad) to have physical buttons for the trackpoint? I have a T440s, but I think the situation would be more or less the same for every other model. Here's what's really broken with the new concept in my point of view:- Can only click one button at a time. Clicking left button while holding right button? Just not going to happen- The trackpad cannot recognize the location of the click. It simply can't distinguish whether I click on the left side, the middle or on the right side. How this was not recognized as a deal breaker is beyond me. So, I have a T23, a T61 and a T410s. Is there any way how I could put the trackpoint buttons or the combined module of trackpad / trackpoint buttons into my T440s? I'm not asking for an officially sanctioned method of course, I just want to know about compatibility and caveats. I assume some cutting would be involved too, since physical dimensions don't match. This thread is intended more for brainstorming than definite answers, has anoyne considered such a mod yet?

Answer:Clickpad models: Trackpoint button mod possible?

I'm currently thinking of a way to disassemble a USB mouse with three buttons and then attach them on the side or something.  Unfortunately, that will be in a very inconvenient place and take up a USB slot, but I suspect it will still be better than using the atrocious touch pad.  This thing is going to be the death of me
