[W520] Thinkvantage Active Protection System update not installing

Question: [W520] Thinkvantage Active Protection System update not installing

ThinkVantage Update is showing an update to the APS. New version is 1.77.0.8, current version is 1.77.0.5. When I install then restart it just says 'one update failed to install'. How can I install this? [Edit] I uninstalled it then ran the update and it wouldn't download. So I went the Lenovo driver download website and noticed that 1.77.0.5 is the current version for my computer, so maybe 1.77.0.8 doesn't exist? I downloaded 1.77.0.5 and reinstalled that, 1.77.0.8 is still presented by the update program though. Why is the Update program suggesting it then? This isn't the first time I've have ThinkVantage Update present the wrong drivers. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-Can-t-install-updates-for-Intel-WiDi-or-W...

Preferred Solution: [W520] Thinkvantage Active Protection System update not installing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: [W520] Thinkvantage Active Protection System update not installing

Hey biznatch,Thanks for reporting this.Checked in TVUR it is showing 1.77.0.8 but its only for 64bit and 1.77.05 for 32bit Win 7.Will escalate this to the team for their assistance.

hi, I'm using t420. I've replaced the HDD with a Crucial M4 SSD. I have some questions. The HDD will stop when a shock detected by TheThinkvantageActiveProtectionSystem. But now i'm using a SSD, I don't know that the Disk can be caused by stopping when a shock detected. Should I worry about it?

Answer:The Thinkvantage Active Protection System-Lenovo airbag protection

An SSD has no moving parts so there's no need to run APS. If you don't have any HDDs inside your T420, e.g. in the Ultrabay or mSATA, you can just uninstall APS altogether.

I'm always weary about third-party software and things extra to windows...specially programs that start themselves during windows boot. So I'm wondering about ThinkVantage Active Protection System...do I really need it on my T440s? I've read it acts like an airbag to protect the HDD incase I drop or bump my machine. but what If its always sitting on my desk and I never drop it or bump it...then do I still need to have it installed?

Answer:Do I really need ThinkVantage Active Protection System?

As long as your machine is runing a conventional hard drive and not a n SSD, I'd keep the APS installed. If you feel that it interferes with the operation of HDD, you can change the settings and make it less sensitive.

At Boot time I get the message: Thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics.
Then: hard drive not found.

When I replaced the HD with a new one and tried to re-install the OS from the CD I get the same message:

What is Thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics?
How do I fix the problem?

Answer:Thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics

Hi Eugene-Verne,While installing Windows from the CD, did you set SATA AHCI to Compatibility mode in the BIOS? If the answer is yes then the hard drive connectors on the laptop may have been damaged due to the fall.Additionally, you can try running HDD diagnostic program from the BIOS to see whether it is even being detected by the BIOS.Hope it helps.

I had started the System Update utility this morning.  It stated that it needed to be updated.  It proceeded, threw up a dialog box stating that it had completed successfully...and then it disappeared.  I cannot find it in the start menu, nor can Thinkvantage Tools find it.  I have looked in the Program Files folders, and even in the Windows Programs and Features catalog.  It's gone.No problem, I said, I'll just re-install the old System Update.  Well, when I did that, the same thing happened.  Completed succesfully, but there is no trace of it anywhere. What's going on here? I have a X1 Carbon, 4th gen. running Windows 7.

Hello, I don't understand why the system tray icon disapear ?Is still the system always working ?The last update from TVSU put the 1.82.2.20.Thanks.

Answer:Active Protection System disapear since the last update ?

The option to display the icon in the system tray may be turned off, so you might want to try to open it from the Thinkvantage control panel applet and see if the option to display it is enabled.    Version 1.82.2.20 was supposed to  "Fix" an issue with APS icon disappearing from system tray after restart" per this document, but perhaps they did not quite fix it after all. Regards,

Hi all, I have a 500 GB hdd 7200rpm which I purchased from lenovo and a hdd caddy which is the slim one (so there is a slight gap for those that are curious) on the thinkpad t510. what i am wondering is i have dual boot on it (linux on the 500gb) and i am wondering if when I am using windows, does the second hdd still get protected from shocks and other potentially damaging harm from the active protecttion system which is present for the hard drive which came preinstalled on the laptop

Hello, today I got my brand new T540p. Its was delivered without OS (Lenovo Campus). I downloaded the ethernet drivers  and the TV System Update on a usb flash drive with my old thinkpad. After installing Windows 8 Pro, i installed the ethernet drivers to connect to the internet. Then i started the TV System Update and let it install all critical and optional drivers.  After the all drivers have been installed the machine wants to reboot, but now i am in a reboot loop. Everytime it hangs in the screen "Windows Update 100%" and then I see the blue screen of death (Driver Power state failure) and the machine reboots again. Does anyone else have this problem or is there a fix from lenovo? Thanks, Mat

Answer:T540p BSOD after installing driver with ThinkVantage System Update

After fresh install of win 8 I only updated drivers from windows update. Works fine so far. Upgraded to win 8.1 still no problem. Use nvidia, wifi, intel graphics driver from windows update. Windows could not install chipset drivers. So I downloaded the intel chipset drivers from lonovo. Install crashes with bsod and ending up in reboot loop. I assume it's a problem with the intel drivers from lenovo. At moment I install win 8 again and I will try to install the drivers from intel website.

One morning after I shutdown my laptop to leave for work and start it up again on the train. It gave me the: 2000 thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics failed. Everything is working fine. Is there a fix for this? Edit: I realised this is in the wrong section. Can someone help me move this please? Thank you.

Answer:Thinkpad L430 Error Msg: 2000 thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics failed

Does this error only happen when you start up your system on the train, or does this error always happen when you start your system?

Active protection (APS) is the HDD airbag function, it detects when the system is moving then it parks the HDD heads in order to prevent damage, until the system stops moving.

APS is initialized by BIOS when the system is turned on.  Part of the initialization is running diags on the sensor to make sure it is able to detect a non-moving state.  If the system is being moved while this happens, then the diags fail and that error message happens.

Hi , I just wanted to say after lenovo update's very useful update, my pc now takes a good minute after boot-up for it to be responsive. Now, after boot, the connecting to internet circle just spins and stops. during this time, nothing else can be opened. when i click on itunes, the win 7 icon shows that it is active and then it goes dim again as if it was closed again. nothing works until the network is connected. thanks for the update...not any suggestions to reverse this other than reinstalling win 7? or do i just have to deal with this inconvinence since lenovo doesnt realize their update actually messes up their systems?

Answer:After Bios Update through thinkvantage, takes forever for PC to be active

Wireless or wired? Using access connections? You can try to go to device manager (in control panel under administrative tools) and uninstalling the offending network adapter. Then, reboot and let it find new hardware. You may need to reenter the wireless encryption key.

After getting my new Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB drive working with my X60 Thinkpad (1706-M7M) running XP Pro, I noticed that the HDD active protection system has disabled itself. Is it not compatible with my new drive?

Answer:X60 HDD Active Protection System

You have two accelerometers now! Your ThinkPad has one (Active Protection), and so does your new hard drive (Seagate G-Force). I don't have personal experience with this, but it's possible the Seagate G-Force software disabled Active Protection. You may be able to re-enable it and run both in parallel. I have no idea how they interact. Either one should be sufficient to protect the drive. Perhaps someone with experience could chime in?

Is it good to be running the APS or is it only needed if I ever drop the computer? Why are there two different beeps, one is louder and longer, the other short and quiet.......... whats the difference between them? Its weird because I only had one of the beeps for about a month and a half. And can I run APS but turn off the beep (dont recall seeing an option for this)? It beeps a LOT on the less sensitive setting even.. even being gentle picking it up...

Answer:Active protection system

The APS parks your hdd head when you accidentally drop it, while the resting hdd can usually take 240 to 400 g shock, a working hdd with the head assembly reading the platter usually can take 50 g, which is equivalent to 1 m fall. However, it depends on the angle of drop so a failure of the hdd is possible even you drop it at 20 cm. The head assembly is only around 0.1 mm from the platter, and any scratches to the platter will cause irreversible damages to the data. Regarding the beep, i am not so sure.

It should also give you the option to download and install Active Protection System. It's also a nice tool to check for new versions of the drivers and Lenovo software for your computer. -gan

Hey, I got this problem. I just did a clean install of Windows 8.1 64-bit on Thinkpad Edge 15 and I downloaded this great tool Active Protection System, which worked perfectly on my Windows 7 before. When I open up the program and shake my laptop it shows that shock is detected and shows that harddrive is stopped and while watching a movie the picture doesn't freeze, which means it isn't stopped. The sensitivity is set high and I disabled "Apatively ignore frequnet shocks". Is this a common problem for Win 8.1 or do I have to install something more?

Hello! I?m hoping that someone here can answer this question ? is APS running all the time, even if the laptop is at a Windows login box with the lid closed? I work as a tech at a K-12 school district.  In our JH/HS building, we have 18 Bretford carts with 14 Thinkpad laptops on each (a mix of R61 and R400 machines, all running APS).  Once the laptops are started each day, the teachers want to have students log off instead of shut down before placing them back in the cart and taking the cart to its next assigned classroom. The classrooms in this building have a ―? lip at the doorway that cart has to traverse when going in and out.  Of course, the teachers have the students take the carts to their next location instead of doing it themselves, so the carts tend to get rough treatment especially when negotiating that doorway lip.  I'm not aware that logging off and closing the lid will park the hard drive head.  If APS isn?t running all the time the laptop is turned on, then there is potential for hard drive head damage during transport, and we would insist that the laptops be shut down for transport to their next destination. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Active Protection System question

APS is NOT running as a service.

The Startup will be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and will be executed after login.

Plz help me~I have done clean installation of windows 7.I have installed fingerprints and power managers, but I wanted to just download system update. But when im installing system update, it says "there are no applicable packages found for your system"How can I fix this??  Also, I have couple other questions. Is it possible to change the graphic cards of the thinkpadw500? I can not play leage of legends with this graphic card.It says I do have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 but there is yellow exclamation picture infront, and Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family.  To clean the fan, do I need to open the laptop completely?

Answer:ThinkVantage System Update - "There are no applicable packages found for your system"

The yellow exclamation means you need to install the driver for the mobility radeon. get the drivers direct from AMDs driver page. as for the system update, it just means that it didnt find anything that was out of data on your system,

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I had bios 1.25 I ran the thinkvangate toolbox and the update system, asking for lenovo updates.  It said there was a bios update, which I ran. Now I have 1.26. There are no more updates reported by the updater. Does anyone know:1) Is 1.3 a beta product?2) Is it not in the Lenovo update tool because they are very slow at adding updates (i.e. months late?)3) Is it safe to install Bios 1.3 manualy?  The only place I can find it is here - is this the correct source? The reason for wanting the update is that my CPU clock is fixed (wont go down on battery, and wont go up under heavy single core load), and also since installing the new power manager 3.62, the fan is stuck on permanently even on battery, idle and cold and the noise is driving me nuts.  There are no reported fixes in 1.3 for any of these issues, but people are reporting that it may fix them, so I guess the Lenovo developers might have sneaked some undocumented (but hopefully tested) changes in there. This machine is my livelyhood, so I cant afford on day downtime - so Bios udates are only done if desperatly needed and if no issues are reported.

Answer:No Bios 1.3 update in Thinkvantage system update tool?

If it is your livelyhood and you aren't having any issues, I would not recommend updating manually or otherwise. There is a risk you will brick the machine.

I was trying to find the Active Protection System software for Win8 for while now, it's just not coming up anywhere. I really need to disable the disc freezing feature on my V570 cause it's super annoying (especially when watching videos).Does anybody know of a place whether the software is available? I've tried the Win7 version, but there are some compatibility issues, so it doesn't work....Also, if the software is not available yet for Win8, are there other ways of turning this thing off (BIOS, registry)??? Thanks!

On my Windows 7, APS works well with an icon on the system tray. But in Ubuntu (13.04), because of no driver, I dont know if APS works or not. The question is: does it still work silently without the driver on Ubuntu? If APS doesn't work, is my laptop harmed when it's shaken?Does Lenovo have any solution to get ASP worked on Linux (Ubuntu)?

Answer:Questions about T410's Active Protection System on Ubuntu

If no answer can be found as with another commenter below, now is the time if there was ever one, to buy a(n) SSD. They are considered more rugged than a spinning platter, have no need to defrag, are lighter and smaller than a disk, - 1 1/8" size. However for all of their attributes, they command a price premium.  Regards,-30-

So the Power Manager's InstantResume requires that Active Protection System to be enabled.  This is rather stupid and annoying for laptops that has SSD installed. Is there some option that I am missing to enable InstantResume without Active Protection System being ON?  If not, I would greatly appreciate that this be fixed.. thx!

Hi all, Ever since I installed an update for the ThinkVantage APS (Active Protection System) my computer has crashed almost every time it suspends the HDD. This has become a niusiance, and I have disabled it for now (Rendering my PC unsafe).  Anyone else having this issue? The crashes are BSoD's, and the errors I get are KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR or CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.

I'm not aware of this problem, but are there any dump files on your computer?
Look in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder, is there any .dmp file there that corresponds to the time/date that a BSOD happened?
If so, and if you can post the .dmp file to dropbox/yousendit/box/etc and share the link, I can look it at.

I just got a 128GB SSD. Also, because I never use my DVD drive, I bought an Ultrabay SATA HDD adapter so I could continue to use the factory hard drive for mass storage. (128 is a *bit* smaller than I can comfortably use.) Is it possible to set up Active Protection to only stop the second hard drive and ignore the SSD upon shocks? Or am I faced with the choice of unnecessary interruptions on my SSD if I want to keep protection for the secondary drive? Could leaving Active Protection on damage the SSD? Thanks in advance. -awa64

Answer:W510 - Active Protection System with two drives, one SSD one traditional HDD?

Just install APS. The SSD should ignore the suspend command issued by APS and hence not be affected by APS in anyway.

I've been unable to find help for this problem on IBM/Lenovo's website, and I'm hoping maybe somebody else has run into this. Since I upgraded to System Update 2, which I had to do, otherwise the update system would not function at all - as it required the update.

System Update Error 742: System Update downloads the file and gets almost through the "installing" progress bar, then a message pops up saying, "System Update" cannot find the source folder. The command line option (/S) must use a valid source folder.

The tech guy at my computer place suggested I call Lenovo, but the last time I did that I got somebody who knew less than I do about computers. Not exactly encouraging.

Hello, I am using P70, and installed M2 SSDs for system partition, and replaced the SATA HDD by SSD.It seems to me that active protection system is no longer necessary for this configuration,However, the active protection system background application is keep running.I consulted Lenovo engineer, he suggested me to go into the device and printer menu, and then turn off the protection.I found that there was no such options inside the menu, and it was not provided at Lenovo settings either. It seems to me that although the resources that the app is taking is not much,if the user feels it no longer necessary, there should be a way to stop running it,in "Official, Supported" way..Is there such a way that I haven't tried? Or is it not yet to be supported? Currently I installed W10 enterprise on the system over W10 Pro, which was preinstalled. If it was the cause of the problem, I am also curious that is it legitimate to me to ask for any patch (or anything...) for this kind of problem. Thank you in advance.

But I already installed them twice. Is there any connection problem with this program? Or did I happen to clear the cache of this program so that it doesn't record the installation history? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I installed ThinkVantage System Update 3 software on both my T42 and R52, and now the boot time is very excessive on both systems.  When XP Pro gets to the "Welcome" screen and the Windows music plays, it now takes from 18 to 20 seconds to get to the desktop.  Previously, the "Welcome" screen was only present for around 2 seconds prior to getting to the desktop. Is this a peculiarity of this program?  I used the program to download and install several critical and recommended updates for both the T42 and R52, but this behavior occurred after I installed the ThinkVantage System Update software, and not after the installation of the updates downloaded by the System Update software. Any thougts on this would certainly be appreciated.

Dear Lenovo, I am new to this forum & am planning to buy T400. I have two queries: 1) I wonder if ThinkVantage System Update can also work on T400??Coz i cannot see "T400" name mentioned in the "supported systems" list on the following link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html#DLP 2) What is the difference b/w the running time of 6 cell & 9 cell Li.Ion batteries? Regards Dr. Khan

Answer:T400 & ThinkVantage System Update 3.14

1) I suppose, that it's "Type, Model and System" specified. If you know those three infos then choose them here and look if the System Update Software is available for your type of T400. 2) For the Lenovo 3000 N200 (14" ) a 6-cell battery delivers up to 4 hours system run time and a 9-cell battery up to 6 hours. This info is just to give you some hint, how it could be approximately on your system.Message Edited by RexDynasty on 09-09-2008 06:15 AM

Hi everyone, We supplied 4 x Lenovo ThinkCentre M93P Tiny Desktops (Model: 10AB003SAU) to a business customer earlier in the year. They are all running Windows 7 64-bit with 500GB 7000RPM SATA drives. Late last week to early this week (approx 17 April 2015 to 20 April 2015) an update came through Lenovo System Update for Lenovo Active System Protection V1.0.0.21 which the customer installed on all four of their systems. Since then, all four systems have been hanging & locking up during use & then require a hard reset for the systems to be usable again until the problem reoccurs next time then the same thing over & over. I spent a heap of time going over the systems trying to work out the cause of this issue which has cost me an absolute fortune in lost productivity & lost revenue. It also lost the customer a lot of time & renenue due to the systems being problematic over a number of days. Thanks very much Lenovo! Won't get any of that time or lost labour back! Customer is furious with both us & Lenovo over this matter, we will likely lose future business due to this. Hoping this may save someone else a major headache if they see this post early enough as I assume problem would be relatively widespread if people are using Lenovo Update. If anyone else has or had this issue recently then please comment. Very disappointed with this probl... Answer:** Lenovo Active Protection System V1.0.0.21 Causing Windows 7 64-bit to randomly lock up **

I just had the very same problem with a 10A5 0006 (M93 without "p"). Customer reported the issue on Friday, 8th of May after apparently suffering silently through the issue for a few days already, saying that it becomes worse, and that he has to restart the machine sometimes every quarter of an hour. Thankfully customer was able to say that the problems started in the last week of April already, and indeed, on the 16th the machine last installed Windows Updates, and on the 19th the aforementioned Active Protection Of Doom 1.0.0.21. I already began back tracing (read: uninstalling one by one) the updates from that day when I stumbled over your post. In all fairness, I would probably not have even touched the Lenovo update, thinking first of a MS foobar. This post saved me from having to invest several hours of time, not to mention that I will be now prepared if the next machine with the similar issue comes around the corner (I need to service roundabout 50 M93p's from the last half year, I betcha there will be more) Thanks

A brand new Q190 supplied with Windows 8.1 constantly pops up a message saying "ThinkVantage System Update Not Installed".  There is no such software listed under support for this model.  There is no explanation of this software anywhere on Lenovo's website, but the message is generated by Lenovo's installed system maintenanace software supplied on the system.A box labeled "fix it" is displayed, and shows only a message to visit Lenovo's website, which is useless. If there is no such software there should at least be a way to turn off these messages interfering with use of the computer.  No such option can be found. .

Answer:Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update Not Installed msg.

This is only a workaround but if you click on Options (top right) and then uncheck the Alerts for Software this particular alert will disappear.

Ran thinkvantage system update and after completion, system went to reboot but will not boot.  DVD light flashes several times but nothing happens after that.  Any ideas?

Answer:a61 wont boot after thinkvantage system update

skershner,

When you ran TVSU, what updates were selected?  I would suspect that you might have received a BIOS update and that perhaps it glitched and hung the system?

You are saying you get no display at all on restart, even after completely powering off the system?

If that is the case, I'm guessing it was a BIOS flash that didn't work out.  Check the hardware maintenance manual for this system and see if there is a jumper on the board you can use to clear CMOS and recovery.  See this article on the support site.

Best regards,

Mark

I have a Lenovo thinkpad E40 laptop, the mode number is 0578-CTO. About a week ago I tried to installed some driver from lenovo official website, afterward it started to have a boot-up issue--for ~90% chance, the laptop froze at the first screen which displays the big logo "Thinkpad" . It never get beyond this point to the operation system. I installed several drivers but I think it must due to the "ThinkVantage System Update 4.03" since it's the only one has something to do with BIOS, and I never had this problem before. For about 10% chance the laptop was able to get beyond the frozen screen, boot Windows and everything works just fine, all programs, all my files are all functioning appropriately like the laptop has no problem at all. The situation becomes worse and worse with time, and it finally doesn't boot at all today. (After more than 10 hours of trying, finally I got it turned on and I'm not turning it off again) I called Lenovo custome service and they said I need to replace my whole motherboard and it cost at least $575 which is almost the price of this laptop. I think it must be a software issue--the update screwed BIOS somehow. I don't know why thinkcentre post such a software making people incautiously update their BIOS and screw it up. I even want to buy a BIOS chip and replace it myself. So, is their any solution to it? The simplest one I can think of it to install a old-version system update to change my BIOS setting back, but I cann... Read more

Answer:BIOS is screwed by ThinkVantage System Update 4.03

Have you tried reverting back to an earlier restore point?  Here are the steps to do that if you need them:

Answer:W520-RAM ERROR(ThinkvantagE)

Mmmh, looks like some bad RAM, you could run another test, like Memtest86+ just to make sure. It also seems like you mixed up the modules on the memory channels, but this should not be an issue with the origninal RAM as long as the FRU# is the same, they are made by various manufacturers, but to the same spec. Just burn this ISO image to a CD and boot from it: http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip  If the error persists, you could also try swapping modules, testing them one by one and so on....

Hi, I've got a T61, 7662-CTO, running Windows XP sp3. I recently ran the Thinkvantage system update, which attempted to update some of the thinkvantage drivers, including the power scheme manager. After the download, Window's Data Execution Prevention started to interfere with the install.  I downloaded the updated driver manually, turned off DEP, and installed manually. Since then, all my ThinkVantage functionality has started to act up.- Power Schemes don't work- None of the Fn + F# keys seem to work, except Fn + F4- the blue thinkvantage button stopped workingIf I start the ThinkVantage programs from the start menu, then some of the programs work okay (but not power schemes) Am I the only one facing these issues?  Any advice would be helpful. -Q

Answer:Latest thinkvantage system update causing many problems...

After calling Warrany Support (woo hooooo), I found that the hotkeys driver needed to be reloaded.  That fixed the Fn+F# key issues, but my power manager is as messed up as it was (even after reinstalling the driver). As a matter of fact, the Power Manager issue persists only on my admin account.  My sibbling's account doesn't seem to have any problems with it.  The problem was that the power profiles were not being activated when selected, and some of the profiles were removed (like Power Source Optimized, Maximum Battery Life, etc...).

Dear community member: Recently, I encountered Windows blue screen problem "STOP: 0x0000007B" as attachment for my IBM X40 notebook with Windows XP home. Actually, this case was happened after installed Lenovo ThinkVantage system update 3.16 http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013489 . I also consulted Microsoft Taiwan customer support, they thought that it should be driver issue. Is there any way to resume my Windows XP as usual without system partition formatting (i.e. IBM system recovery tool)? Note: CHKDSK /F actiion also did without any problem being found. Thanks for your help in advance,Austin

Answer:Windows blue screen after ThinkVantage system update

Hi Austin,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting Windows blue screen "STOP: 0x0000007B".

"STOP: 0x0000007B"indicates a mis-match between BIOS and the hard drive controller driver. Check bios for AHCI status.

Press F1 at post to get into BIOS. In BIOS, go to Config -> Serial ATA. Change from AHCI to Compatible or vice versa and then boot.

Best regards,
Mithun.
