No network card is recognized in W520 full size minipci slot?

Question: No network card is recognized in W520 full size minipci slot?

I own the w520. I want it to have two internal network cards in the two minipci slots. the laptop came with one wireless card in the half-size slot, it works fine there. Previously, I had a SSD in the full size slot that worked fine. The problem is that no wireless card will work in the fullsize slot. It does not matter if it is on the whitelist or not. Heck, I even moved the halfsize one that came with the computer to the fullsize slot with a bracket and the network card was not seen by Windows there. What can I do to make the fullsize minipci slot recognize a network card? Please help! Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: No network card is recognized in W520 full size minipci slot?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: No network card is recognized in W520 full size minipci slot?

You may want to try using Access Connections to access it and see if that works.

You can download Access Connections here if you need it:

Let us know if that works.

Hi I  removed the Atheros wireless card supplied with the S10-3T and replace it with an Intel one I have, and I got a message saying "unauthorised card please remove"... Also, the card I have is a minipci-e, so it will have to go into the slot saved for the 3g (could that be an issue?) Do you guys know of compatible cards? Regards KK

Answer:S10-3T - Replace Wireless Card in minipci-e slot

The error indicates, installed card is not compatible. However, when you install Intel wireless card in place of Atheros wireless card it should be fix properly and in a same way as Atheros wireless card. Kindly make sure you have updated BIOS as well, which is available on Lenovo website.http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/uk/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_3299.html The compatible wireless card is Broadcom BCM4313 and Intel Centrino Wireless-N1000

Help please! Just bought this weekend my refurbished Thinkpad T61 Core 2 Duo T7100. Came home with it and installed software which I needed to work with. Thru Thinkvantage I made a system update and also....bios update ( why I did it???). After it installed any updates it automatically booted, and than the error code appeared. To remove the PCI card means I have to unistall the network card and will have no access to internet. Any suggestions?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:1808 ERROR : miniPCI unauthorised network card

Update your BIOS again, to a modified Thinkpad T61 BIOS without the whitelist for which network cards it accepts. Google "modified Thinkpad T61 bios" to find it. You probably couldn't have known, but the stock BIOS have a whitelist for which network-cards it accepts, and if you have a custom network-card, you won't be able to use that with a stock BIOS. But a quick update of the BIOS, to a modified version, will take care of the problem. For future reference, if something works, don't upgrade it

:-? Can anyone explain me what to do? Ok, I have archaic computer - PIII 633Mhz, with something like 400MB ram, - I can try to supply more info if neccessary, and I am using it only to burn my DVDs. Recently I got new HDD Samsung SP 2014n PATA 200GB, and instaled it almost successfuly. Almost, because it's full size is not recocnized, but only 137 GB?! Why?! It is properly connected to primary IDE ultra DMA 5, I checked for bad sectors and nothing. I'm kind of thinking this computer is not technicaly capable of seeing HDD biger than 137 GB, but would like if someone much more knowledgeable than me (only standard user) can confirm this (I still have one day lef to return the drive to the store and excange it for a smaller one) or explain me what to do.  Thanks,Sone

Answer:HDD Full size not recognized

It's an OS limitation. What OS are you using? WinXP with SP2 can do the fiull drive size. ANythjing less and you will have to set up multiple partition on the drive, which is not necessarily a abad thing. There are some workarounds, but do you need 200 gig all on one drive if you can getr 137 + 63, for instance?Again all 200 gig will be available.

I have a HP ProBook 450 G3 and I was thinking of installing a SSD. I already have a 1TB Hybrid drive installed in the regular HDD location, but I had heard that it is possible to remove the wifi card from a laptop and use that slot for a SSD as long as the SSD is small enough to fit. I'm not sure if my laptop uses a miniPCIe slot for the wifi card or if its a WWan slot, or if that's the same thing, so can someone help me. And if it's possible could you recommend a good SSD that would fit in that spot, preferably at least 120GB. I was thinking about getting this one from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-...&qid=1516206285&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+pcie+ssd also once I buy the SSD will I be able to boot off of it?

Hello,

This is related to my earlier post when I was trying to have Win 2k recognize the full capacity of a 160 GB ATA HDD. The OS has since been changed and a SATA HDD is added as follows:

OS=> Win XP, SP2
MoBo=> ASUS A7N8X-E Socket A (462) purchased 2005. I have just flashed the BIOS installing the latest.
Primary SATA HDD (where OS is installed)=> Hitachi DeskStar 7K80, 80GB
Storage ATA HDD=> Maxtor 160GB, connected to MoBo via Promise Ultra 100 Tx2 PCI controller card. Maxtor has shown having a problem with the recognition of its full 160GB capacity under a different set up. This happened while reformatting the HDD from clean install when there was an unintended power shut down. This may have caused MBR corruption.

My current system is up & running with no problems except when I tried to format the Maxtor using Win XP disk management, this HDD has appeared as having a total size of 127 GB only!
This has been a very frustrating experience. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you,
SR

Answer:Full size of 160GB HDD not recognized when formatting with Win XP-sp2

127 GBs is a lot anyway, isn't it......?

Just kidding, don't get all bent.

48 bit logical block addressing (48 bit LBA) must be implemented before the computer will recognize the full capacity of the drive. You could check with the board mfgs' website to see if the board & BIOS you have is capable of supporting it.

Answer:new hard disk full size not recognized

I've recently purchased a 180GB IBM DeskStar hard disk and went about installing this as my main drive with XP Home. However, when I installed XP it only recognized the size as 130 gigs when it is actually 180.... I've since used IBM DiskManager to try and install it to it's full potential using that but it seems to only want to create a Fat 32 partition of the full capacity and not an NTFS like I wanted. Even then I'm not sure if it will work as I haven't had a chance to try it yet.I know about this issue with motherboards that don't support 48-bit LBA addressing which is needed to recognize drives over 137 gigs but the last BIOS update for my mobo which I installed some time back supposedly fixed this issue. I'm using the Asus A7A266-E w/ ALi Magik chipset.Any ideas?

In windows I formatted it as GPT however windows only sees 1677.90gb available for the hard drive. Any assistance in getting windows to recognize the full size of the hard drive would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

As far as I know, Lenovo offers no way to disable the whitelisting for MiniPCIe cards in the BIOS/UEFI firmware.

You may be able to find firmware that does this from a third-party, but I would imagine that installing it voids your warranty.  At least until Lenovo-provided firmware is reinstalled.

Hello folks,

I have an HP Pavillion model a1123c running XP Media Center Edition version 2002 with SP3 installed. I had an issue with the system recognizing my DVD drives, so I ran the CDGONE regedit utility to get the system to recognize my DVD drives. All is well with the DVD drives now, but I can not use the memory slots on the front of the system.

Whenever I insert my SD card, the system does not recognize it. The SD card works fine on other systems. I am able to see memory sticks that are inserted into the USB ports without issue (if this matters).

Anyone know what might be causing this issue?

Thanks

I'm hoping to install an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card in my PC to replace the existing Realtek AC97 onboard chip.

I believe the new sound card may be a half-length PCI card. Can this be installed in one of my full length PCI (v2.3) slots?

Also, is this card likely to place significant extra demands on the power supply unit?

Thanks for your help.

Gordon

Answer:Sound card - slot size

You will be fine with the size of the card, the slots on your board are actually half length. Full length and half length bus connectors are the same. I am sure the new card will use more power but if you have a good power supply it should be OK.

I disable PCI Express slot in Computer Setup -- Security -- Slot Security on BIOS. I doesn't know that my onboard card wasn't working, and now,  machine doesn't start, machine beeps 6 times (video card error). I can't access the bios. I try reset CMOS, removing the Green Jumper, removing the battery, press CMOS button for 10 seconds, press power button (to remove remain energy. But nothing this works. Someone can help me? How i can reactivate PCI Express x16 ?

Answer:Video Card not recognized in PCI-Express x16 - Slot Security

Hi: If your onboard video adapter doesn't work, and resetting the CMOS doesn't work, you can try putting the PCI express x16 video card you have now into the white PCIe x4 slot (the white video card slot next to the black PCIe x16 slot), and see if you can get into the BIOS to change the PCI x 16 setting.  It might work in the x4 slot. If that doesn't work either, then you will have to install a PCI video card (one that goes into one of the white PCI slots) and use that to get into the BIOS so you can change the settings to enable the PCIe x16 slot. So, see if you can find a cheap, used, PCI video card on eBay, and that should allow you to have video again. You also need to make sure you have removed all connections from the PC when you reset the CMOS (all cables, power cord, mouse, monitor, etc).

Hi, I just bought an ideapad u110, and am wondering what the size of the express card slot is. Id really like to hook up an external sound card so I can hook my u110 up to my 5.1 surround sound setup. In the manual, it doesnt exactly specify; it just calls the slot a "pci express card "new" slot". Yea.... not exactly that informative. Im guessin its the "34" size, but i am not certain. Thanks

Answer:What Is the Size of the Express Card Slot on the U110?

Seems to be the Express Card 34 in U110. If you already have the laptop, the dimensions are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard. Just measure against the slot on your laptop to make sure.

Hello: First time on the Forum. Edge E220s running Windows 7 Professional. A few weeks ago, the multi-media card slot just stopped being recognized by Windows 7. I insert a card in and - nothing. No light, no whirrs, no clicks, nothing. I have tried several SD cards, all of which worked previously and which still work fine in my camera. They also work when inserted in a stand-alone USB-connected card reader., so the cards themselves don't seem to be the issue. Control Panel/Device Manager shows no yellow exclamation points, It's as if it was just no longer physically connected. I did have an attempt at a battery replacement done at a reputable local shop recently, but don't think the lack of functionality coincided with that repair. I say 'attempt' at battery replacement because there seem to be TWO batteries for this model, and the only one I could find locally (Toronto ) was the wrong one - rectangular, rather than square-ish.  I hope the one coming from China is the right one.  I digress.... Any clues as to where my SD card slot went? Oh yes - the BIOS update (hujj05ww.exe) mentioned in another post, which I thought might fix the SD card slot issue? Error message - "This process does not recognize this system." Thank you in advance for any assistance! Jim

Does anyone know of any network cards that use the AMR slot? supposidy the slot supports it, but cant find any info on it and cant find any retailers who sell ANY AMR products...Only ask because i have a pci network card, basicly runnin short on pci slots and this is a pos solution out of a sticky situation!

Answer:AMR Slot and network card

not designed for NICs"ntel is supporting a standard for its motherboards called AMR. It's on almost every 810 motherboard, and many 820 and recent VIA motherboards have these AMR slots. AMR means Audio Modem Riser. Its a special small slot, replacing one of the PCI or ISA slot positions. It carries analogue audio from the motherboard's AC97 codec, and some control lines. The small card which plugs into this slot carries only the bare line interface circuitry. Being on a separate card, it is easy to make a variety of versions to meet each region's local telecom standards. It should be ideal for simple CTI and modem applications."click here

Okay, about a week ago, my other PC would say Network connection unplugged, the lights on the network card were not on at all but the internet ont his pc worked so I figured it had to be the network card which was the problem.

So I purchased a new network card and installed it. That also, did not fix the problem. No lights would come on it. So i took it out, and installed it in a different PCI slot and voula! It worked. So I am going behind the pc to put the air shields on the empty PCI slot, go back up and it stopped working. No lights on the new network card at all again. So it worked for one minute and then stopped. So now I have no idea what the problem could be..please help!

Answer:Really weird problem, got new network card, put it in dif. PCI slot, worked for 1 min

Okay, I think I figure it out, I went and fiddled with the network cable connecting to the card and if i pushed the RJ-45 connector into the slow it would work but if i let it go it would stop so obviously, it's the cable. Does anyone know how to fix that part now?

Hi all, I face problems after I bought a used WLAN MiniPCI-Card for my T40 Notebook.According to the seller this card should have the FRU-No. 93P4235.So it should work fine with a T40 and a BIOS version of >3.0.But I get ERROR 1802 - Unauthorized network card message and the MiniPCI card doesn't show the FRU-No. (or any other FRU-No.) printed on it.So I doubt that the FRU-No is correct and this card isn't one from IBM/Lenovo. I think the description of the seller was incorrect. But the seller still insist that it was correct. He told me that he got the FRU-No. of this card out of "Everest Home"-software.So my question to you:1. Doesn't all IBM/lenovo MiniPCI WLAN cards show the FRU-No. printed on it? Would it be possible that a card doesn't show it?2. Is it possible to read the FRU-No. with Everest Home? Actually I do not think so,  but does anyone know it?3. Does anyone know a criteria which can show me 100% reliable if this card has the FRU 93P4235 or not?I would appreciate your answers very much.Thank you.

Answer:T40 - MiniPCI WLAN card / How to confirm FRU-No.

Welcome to the forum! Every official IBM/Lenovo card will have both a part number and a FRU P/N on it. The seller is being less than honest, shall we say... Good luck.

I have a dell 1300 inspiron laptop and i have just connected my main pc to the orange broadband with their livebox wireles modem. now i am trying to get a wireless connection working with my father's laptop. the problem is that the network card wont go into the slot. it's the same width and it looks as though it should fit but it only pushes in about halfway and then i encounter resistance. i obviously dont want to push it too hard for fear of breaking something. i cannot find any information about this and Dell technical support is a nightmare. Why wont the card go in? it's a brand new card and the laptop is only 3 months old.

I'm getting a laptop that will come with a PCMCIA WiFi card, but supports internal wireless.

I want to get a card that'll give me the least headaches in Linux (Fedora Core 2 & 3). 802.11g is great, b is enough.
Any suggestions?
Also, the compaq this is being put into is a Celeron 2.0/ ATI/ALI based chipset. (for 425, I couldn't argue). Are there any issues with running an intel wifi card on this chipset, or are wifi cards like their PCMCIA and PCI counterparts, where manufacturer doesn't matter.

Answer:Linux compatible miniPCI wireless card?

No such thing... There are some that are supposed to be, but you will find just as many users that have problems with the supported cards as you find using unsupported.

Wireless pcmcia is problematic even for the "supported" cards. It is not plug and play Expect it to be a headache unless you fork out cash for retail software.

Just try to use ndiswrapper on the built in card. It honestly behooves you to learn how to use it.

Hi andrejack76 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Choosing a compatible WLAN PCIE card should match the slot and the  recommended motherboard specification.
In your system manual  : Slot 3: PCIe Mini Card x1 (Version 2.0, for optional WLAN) (item 13 page 38).

To get the recommended WLAN card for your system , it would be better to get the Machine Number  thru this link .
Just keep your Serial number confidential.

Examples:

For  Machine number 90BJ000KUS
Part number:  20200437 WLAN LITEON WB335 1X1BGN BT4.0 HMC Part number:  20200440 CBT RTL8723BE 1X1BGN+BT HMC WLAN

90BJ0047US WIRESSLESS LAN CARD Part number: 11202485 LTN RTL8821AE AC 1X1 BT4.0 HMC 90BJ0049US WIRESSLESS LAN CARD Part number: 11202485 LTN RTL8821AE AC 1X1 BT4.0 HMC 90BJ005AUS WIRESSLESS LAN CARD Part number: 11202485 LTN RTL8821AE AC 1X1 BT4.0 HMC 90BJ005BUS WIRESSLESS LAN CARD Part number: 11202485 LTN RTL8821AE AC 1X1 BT4.0 HMC 90BJ008AUS WIRESSLESS LAN CARD Part number: 11202485 LTN RTL8821AE AC 1X1 BT4.0 HMC

Other brands may also work for as long as the specifications are the same as those examples.
Such recommended part number would work best on your PC model as pre tested parts.

Update us how it goes.

Answer:Equium L20: How to install a miniPCI WLan card

Hi

You write nothing about your notebook. Maybe your notebook is not ready to install a minPCI WLan card.
But if it?s possible to install the card so usually the WLan slot should be placed at the bottom of the unit or under the keyboard.

Then you have to put the card only into the slot and then you have to connect the both WLan antenna cables. As far as I know you have to connect the white cable to main and the brown to aux.

Sometimes the Toshiba ASP should install the WLan card because of the warranty validity.

I have a laptop that is not recognizing my usb network card. I have plugged this network card in several other systems running various operating systems and the O.S. always recognizes the card, asks for drivers, configures the card, and everything works. This time, however, during the driver installation and configuration, the process just stopped and the windows closed. Afterwards, I could not look at the properties of 'My Network Places' (nothing would happen when I clicked on 'Properties'), and there was no 'Network' icon in the control panel. Per a Microsoft support document, I restored two files (netid.dll and net??.??? - I don't remember) off the O.S. CD and fixed that particular problem. Now, when I plug in the NIC, nothing happens. I can attach other devices (flash driver, printer, etc) to the single USB port that I have and they function properly. Is there any way to clean out the partial install of this device? The drivers only consist of three files, an .inf file and a .com file and a .sys file. I have searched the hard drive to see if any of these three files were present or if any files contained any keywords in the .inf file and did not find anything. I have also searched the registry for model, manufacturer, and other keywords relative to this device and have not found anything. I have deleted the USB root hub and the USB controller and rebooted, forcing a reinstall of the USB hardware both with and without the dev... Read more

Answer:USB network card not recognized

Just thought I would let everyone know this problem is resolved. I did some additional searching in the registry and found where the device was being enumerated. It was a little scary, but I deleted the entries specific to the NIC based on identifiers in the device's .inf file. When I plugged the NIC in, the system detected it and asked for the drivers like it's supposed to.

Thanks to those who read this.

I am trying to upgrade a MiniPCI wireless card in my Y410. I purchased a following item: "INTEL SINGLE WHITE BOX CENTRINO WIRELESS-N 1030 WI-FI HALF MINI CARD. 802.11 /B/G/N +" BIOS will not allow to boot when this device is plugged in. As far as I could tell, it works if you plug it right after BIOS started loading OS. So, there's nothing technically preventing laptop from running this wireless card, except some very annoying restriction on Lenovo part. I tried to lookup for a BIOS upgrade which has this restriction removed, and found only a couple of dead links. Does anybody have a hacked BIOS I could use? It would also be great if a BIOS was available with AHCI support. In case lenovo wants to keep being hard on end-user, and provide no option to update BIOS to reasonable level, which MiniPCI card could I purchase, that would work in Y410, and provide Bluetooth and 802.11N?

Hello,

I have an old Toshiba Satellite A10-PSA10A-3V1KK, and would like to add a WiFi card in the miniPCI slot.

I understand from the initial documentation that the optional cards at that time were PA3212U-4MPC and PA3273U-2MPC (my favorite, as being WPA compliant). However, those references seem fairly hard to find now ...

Are there other, newer references, 100% compatible with my Satellite A10, that I could consider?

Thanks for your help,

*JPP*.

Answer:Which miniPCI WiFi card for Satellite A10-PSA10A-3V1KK?

As far as I know there are no references for old notebook models and I don't think old notebooks are tested with new hardware. So all you will find about it is info you already have.

If you want to use faster WLAN card using new WLAN standards you should use PCMCIA WLAN cards.

Hi

I have a Portege R100, and want to upgrade the internal wlan card to a 802.11g adapter.
I´ve already searched the internet, but didnt find a fitting. Can you tell me if it´s possible, and which i can use. Are there any with integrated bluetooth too ?
Thanks, Florian Niedermayer

Answer:WLAN MiniPCI card upgrade on a Portege R100

Hello

Your Portege is pretty old notebook model and designed 4 years ago. I have found info it is delivered with Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN 3B MiniPCI Adapter. The same WLAN card is in my Tecra notebook and I am pretty satisfied. The download speed is not the fastest but it runs pretty well and I can use Skype to talk with friends without any connectivity problems.

Anyway, to find compatible components for older notebook models is not so easy. If nobody here can offer exact info try to contact your local dealer or Toshiba authorized service. They are responsible for hardware support and they should be able to give you proper info. Maybe you can use Intel WLAN 802.11g (bis zu 54 MBit/s) with this oldie. I do not see any other solution. If possible try to obtain this card and test it. If it does not work you can send it back.

Please let us know if the upgrade will be successful.

WiFi card in Satellite T130-17E does not support 802.11a / 5GHz. I would like to replace it with one that does support that. Is it possible? If so, are there documents that show how to do it?

Thanks in advance, Igor Bukanov

Answer:Satellite T130-17E - upgrading Wireless MiniPCI card

Hi mate

Usually the notebook supports the miniPCI WLan module. This means that usually the other miniPCI WLan cards should work but I read also here in the forum that this is not always the case and sometimes other miniPCI WLan card would not me recognized properly?.

But why you don?t try a simple solution like a USB WLan stick?
This is the simplest and in my opinion the best solution for you.
You will not need to disassemble the notebook. This means that there is no risk of any damage and you will not cancel the warranty?

Therefore I recommend trying this solution.

Hello everyone, i've been desperately trying to upgrade my WLAN card on my SP6100 laptop, since it was shipped with a wifi-b minipci card, which is not fast enough by today;s standards.

Every piece of official Toshiba documentation mention that the SP6100 has a minipci type 3A slot, so can accommodate both a minipci type 3A and 3B wifi card.
But unfortunately for me, I found out the hard way that it's definitely NOT the case - i've been set back by a fortune in buying costs for an intel minipci type3 wifi card, which DOES NOT fit the laptop at all.

I spent an hour in pointless calls with Toshiba customer support, who I had to convince that PCMCIA is definitely NOT the same as miniPCI, and that the miniPCI cards ARE DEFINITELY replacable by the user. She insisted that it couldnt be changed by the system user, but by toshiba themselves.

Could anyone please please advise me on the type of wifi card that comes built in with the SP6100 laptops? I think it is AGERE branded, as a WLAN minipci card. I know that it definitely IS NOT miniPCI type 3.

Please help! Thank you.
And by the way, every place i have searched so far only appears to sell type3 miniPCI cards,
Are other types of miniPCI cards available for retail customers?

Infinite thanks!!

Answer:Need help with upgrading the minipci WLAN card on Satellite Pro 6100

The wlan card build in into SP6100 is the PA3189U-1MPC. This is a Toshiba branded Agere Orinoco Gold or Silver MiniPCI card with Form Factor Mini PCI Type 3B.
May you found and tried to exchange the bluetooth card?

I use my A31 since many years without problems. Last week i got my netgear wireless Router/modem and now i have big problems with the a31. 1. First i have updated the firmware of the wireless card to the newest 1.04.xx from lenovo-site2. i use the newest drivers from the lenovo site Problem:I allways get the message "the device can not be startet (code 10)" and there is a yellow sign on the card in the device manager. 3. i have tryed everything (reinstall drivers, remove card pluged in again)4. When i start in safe mode i have never this problem - so i think it is an "XP SP3" problem. Has annyone got the same troubles and could solve it. It seams that there ist a conflict with XP and the card? Thanks, fritschi from Austria

Answer:A31 and IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card

Welcome to the forum!I would say that you're probably correct with the assumption that SP3 might be at fault for your troubles. A lot of users have complained about networking issues after installing it.Having said that, I'm still on SP2 with my A31p and that's where I intend to stay...Good luck.

I am attempting to install an 2006 version of XP home on an 2007.5 IBM notebook. Windows does not recognize the LAN network card. Because of this, windows does not accept the driver for the card( correct driver from IBM). I can not get on line to correct this as I have no Lan. Where would I find current hardware info, that could be saved to disc & installed on the 06 windows?

Answer:Solved: network card not recognized

Sammy,

The year of the OS shouldn't matter. Does the Network card show up as an unknown network controller in device manager? If so it's very possible that the actual card could have an issue with it, especially if you are certain that you have the correct driver for it.

Hi guys/gals,

On one of our computers there is something very : recently, the system has been reinstalled, W7x64 Pro, with all appropriate drivers from official websites, like Intel chipset, networking etc.

The problem is following: turn on the computer in the morning, there is no network connection. Upon check in the network adapters, there is apparently no network adapter recognized. The computer gets a reboot, and the network card is recognized and working the whole day, even if the computer gets restarted. It happens only once, apparently after it has been turned off the whole night.

The newest networking driver for this adapter (Intel 82578DC) has also been downloaded and installed (and also checked as installed in the device manager properties).

Any ideas what could be causing this? I haven't yet tried BIOS reset or similar, as it was working without a fuss on the previous W7 installation.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks
Kosta

Answer:Network card recognized only after first reboot of the day

One trick that may work is:
boot into safe mode
go into Device Manager
delete the device having an issue(in this case the network card)
reboot normally.

Windows will reinstall the current driver. For some reason this fixes many glitches. But not all. It doesn't cost anything to try it.

Might be related -- with VMWARE the NAT service doesn't work properly -- but you can use BRIDGED which gets round the problem. No good however if you only get a single fixed IP address however as BRIDGED will use another "Real" IP address.

I had been experiencing weak/intermittent wireless connections with the Broadcom network card that shipped with the system (Yoga 3 Pro 1370).  This morning I switched it out for an Intel 7265NGW -- but upon restart no NIC card was detected at all.  Not in system tray and not in Device Manager.  I updated BIOS to A6CN58WW and installed all Intel drivers -- but nothing, card not recognized.  No error messages or rejection etc. -- just not showing that I have a wireless adapter at all.  When nothing worked, I switched back to the Broadcom card -- but now this card is not recognized either.  I used System Restore to roll back to last week, but no luck, no wireless card is being detected/recognized.  Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?  Much appreciated!

HI ALL: I couldn't re-locate an former 10/06 post their that I read, but I had to-day an fairly similar problem, which my ISP rep. of Bell Sym.. say's is fairly common. That is an lost driver for the VIA mentioned card, but in fact the card is properly 'installed'
Rather the computer is not recognizing it, the puter is connected, but the actual 'driver', is inadvertently lost. strange, because the puter appear's to be 'hooked-up' to the internet, but cannot surf, or do email.
So, I do not need an network card replacement, rather identical 'only an driver' for the VIA. You would know, this doesn't come with the xph-cd, but rather is incorporated when you buy the computer, not unlike other at point, purchase choices, ie. wireless, and say USB connections etc. So if you cannot connect, you have to obtain, assistance from an friend, to 'obtain this lost driver', on an independant CD, or take the computer to an consultant, hence an 'fee'.
Now, I got simply 'lucky', and rebooted this AM, and presto it the driver was re-found, and now I'm OK. But other's will not find that as convenience.
So, my question, is to avoid this future difficulty...where do I obtain this driver, for if I loose it again...for often where this is smoke, there is fire.
Hope this is reasonably clear.
I'm new here, from up in Canada. Thanx for any suggestions. + k

Answer:Re: Satellite M60-104 PCI card Slot or Express Card Slot?

Did you take a look into the user manual?
There are all the details about the M60 series.

But as far as I know the M60-104 unit supports the Cardbus 32-Bit/PC-Card 16-Bit slot.
So you could use 1x PCMCIA Type-II only and 1x ExpressCard.

I have an older pentium laptop that works quite nicely but refuses to even beep when I insert a new Wireless card I bought a netopia 3d PCMCIA card.

It does however recognize PCMCIA modems and some older network cards.

Any ideas why this might be, the card is good and is recognized in a newer Dell but is not even sensed in my Old Compaq. I always thought cardslots where card slots?

Thanx
Ryan

Answer:Newer Wireless network PCMCIA card not recognized in Compaq LTE 5400

The new card is CARDBUS and is not necessarily supported by the older machine.
PCMCIA is 16 bit
CARDBUS is 32 bit
The 16bit and 32bit refer to the BUS width - it's a bit similar to the differerence between ISA cards and PCI cards in a desktop machine.

I have a AMD 7870 Dual slot video card on my Asus M5A99X-Evo Motherboard. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My Video card is the Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition non OC.. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered? Its it recommended? Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below on my motherboard, will it cause my 16x PCI-E slot to slow down? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Computer Specs -

Asus M5A99x-Evo Motherboard (AM3+)

Answer:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

Hey Guys,

This is the follow up thread to my previous post here where I identified my graphics card was not working in the x16 slot, only in the x8 slot. I tired different methods to troubleshoot but nothing seemed to work so I basically gave up.

Thorsen had advised I purchase a Motherboard PCI-E PCI Express 16X Slot Test Card Tester which I finally did but unfortunately it did not come with a manual or any guide as to intrepret the lights being shown. So here I am now asking if any can provide some insight as to what the card lights are telling me or any other help as to determine why my card is not working in the proper x16 slot. It works well in the x8 slot in terms of games etc I haven't had any problems so far but I still would like it to be in the x16 slot.

Here are my items for reference :

Motherboard
Graphics Card
PCI tester
Attached are pictures of the lights being shown. Any other information needed please let me know and thank you guys

Hey guys,

Recently bought this card from BestBuy to be installed on my current mobo. When the card is placed in the top x16 slot it is not being recognized and i'm not getting any display. When placed in the slot below it works but i'm seeing it as only x8. I checked and my current BIOS is the latest that is on the Asus website.

Can anyone help me fix this or is it a problem with the card itself?

Regards

Answer:GTX 660 not recognized in x16 only in x8 slot

Ravir, I followed your thread over. Did you try Britton30's advice to update the bios yet. I think you should disable the IGPU, update your Bios and try it in the first slot again.

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

Answer:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

There's nothing in the bios for assigning PCIE GPU to a slot. (single 4870 1G)

I have 4 PCIE slots (CrossfireX board, ASUS M3A32 MVP Deluxe MoBo, w/ 790FXNB.) I did some case clean up and wire management yesterday and I moved my card to slot 1 instead of 2... Didn't get a display after the POST and OS Boot, so I moved it back to slot 2, un-installed the drivers for the card, then moved it back to slot 1... Same problem.. I'm getting tired of messing with these cards..

No display after POST and OS Boot... CMOS Reset?? I have a PCIE Config in the BIOS, but nothing to assign a primary.

Ideas??

Answer:PCIE card won't recognise in Slot 1, but OK in slot 2.

Hello,I have an IBM S51 Think Centre that I scanned through Crucial.com to find out how much RAM I can install in the computer. Crucial scanning revealed that I could go up to 2 gigabyte total (1 gig in each of the two slots). I purchased the two 1 gigabyte chips from Crucial. I installed the chips, but the computer only sees the 1 gigabyte chip in the yellow primary slot, but not the other 1 gig chip in the black secondary slot. I also have another S51 IBM Think Centre, so I installed the new Crucial chips in my other S51, and both chips are recognized. This confirms that both chips are good. I put the original RAM chips (two 512 chips) back in, and noticed that the black RAM slot was not recognized - I thought the computer only had 512 total, but it looks like it should have had 1 gig total. So, it appears that the black RAM slot was not being recognized all along. My questions are: Does the black secondary RAM slot need to be enabled in some way, so the system will "see" the other 1 gig chip? What steps should I take to get the black RAM slot recognized, or does the motherboard have an issue.    Thank you,Mike

Answer:RAM not recognized in secondary slot

You might want to download this program, "CPUID CPU-Z." This program can tell you whether the slot is working or not. If the slot is working, then it will show your RAM (and its spec). Also, it will tell you whether it is functioning as single channel or dual channel. CPU-Z Make sure you download, "CPU-Z 1.53 setup" located at the far left column. After installation, check under the taps, "Memory" and "SPD" and under "SPD" you will see at the left slot #s for your installed RAM. Hope this helps.

Hello all, Just received my Thinkpad W520 4270 CTO with bluetooth installed. It was a DOS workstation that I installed Win 7 x64 Ultimate on and I finally got all the drivers installed but the bluetooth software says there is no BT device connected to my laptop. I checked the BIOS settings and confirmed the BT is enabled. I even disabled it, saved, then enabled it to toggle. Hitting the Fn+5 combo doesn't trigger the light or any "Found New Hardware." When the laptop first boots up the BT light flashes along with the wifi light and the HDD activity light. I haven't yet been able to load another OS, but I'm downloading Arch Linux and BackTrack 5 to test to see it's possibly an OS issue. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful, it appears my Google-Fu has failed me as well. EDIT: I realize the sticky about the "do not update the bluetooth drivers" but I'm not getting my bluetooth to work at all, not even being recognized by the OS as an "unknown device."

I am trying to connect my Lenovo W520 Win 64 laptop to my new Grace Digital 3Play bluetooth receiver.  I thought the first receiver was faulty so I got a replacement.  Now I don't know what to do since both receivers don't connect to my laptop.  Can anybody help me out? The receiver cannot connect to the laptop through bluetooth. It is recognized in the bluetooth control panel.  All my bluetooth drivers are up to date.  My bios is the latest verson.  My Lenovo power management and power manager are the latest versions. I believe all my settings are correct.I also own a Bose Soundlink speaker and a Miccus Bluetooth receiver and both of those items pair and connect fine to my laptop.  I would like to keep the receiver since it will enable me to connect my laptop to my stereo system but I am close to returning both items back to the manufacturer.Any ideas?Neil

Hi, I just bought a Thinkpad W520 which has two internal hard drives. The first is faster and is about 80 Go and the second is about 320 go. The first one is divided into the lenovo backup drive (Q and Windows (C. The latest has 58 Go available. However, without having installed anything on my computer yet, the computer tells me the harddrive is almost full and has only 6 Go free. So I would like to know if that is normal? Considering the fact that I haven't installed anything on it yet... I supposed when i decided to buy it, the interest to have two hard drives with a main one faster was to be able to install the programs into it so I'm quite surprised to find no space at all on it... Thanks for the help, Jorge

I must add I have windows 7 64bit which recquires "only" 20go (according to microsoft website) of the 58 go of my hardrive. This leaves 32 go full of programs and only 6 free. It seems weird to me that other programs apart of windows 7 could fill the hard drive for 32 Go...

After a recent failed HDD format I had to reinstall XP and downloaded Tosh drivers, not having access to my original restore disk as I am working abroad.

The secondary memory slot now is not recognising any DDR's, i'm trying to upgrade to 2G, any suggestions?

Regards,
Eamonn

Answer:Satellite P30-145 secondary memory slot not recognized

Hi

Did the second slot recognize any different memory modules???
You could definitely upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 2GB!
So a single slot must be able to recognize a 1024MB module.

I would suggest checking firstly the module compatibility because there could be either a motherboard (slot) malfunction or you trying to use not compatible module.
We have to eliminate one!

In my knowledge this notebook supports PC2700 DDR-RAM and the 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) module should works!

I am trying to find a GOOD front 5.25 bay fan that blows straight back (not up or down).... I have up to 2 bays open... I found a 3 bay fan but like I said, thats too many bays... The fan can be slotted in 1 bay, but then the air flow is up or down again.... Anyone know of a good cheap single or double bay fan that INTAKES air straight back...

Answer:Looking for 5.25 bay fans (1 or 2 slot size)

you could make one...... two 60mm or maybe two 80mm by modding the fans so that they're slightly smaller as my 5.25" bay is only 151mm wide

Hi, I have recently ran into problems with my W520 w/ Nvidia 2000m when connecting to an ViewSonic 1920*1080 external display. I just want to clarify that I have been using this setup for about 2 month with a HDMI to Displayport connector and it have worked fine.  Yesterday. I plugged in my Displayport connector before I started the computer. Usually, I start then plug in once startup is complete.  After doing so, the computer started up thinking my external is the main startup display. After startup, the proportion of the display is totaly wrong. I checked my resolution, it still says 1920*1080 but it seems that my thinkpad believes that the display's ratio is maybe 4:3 or 1:1 instead of 16:9. So, basically, everything on my external is elongated so I cant see the top or bottom of my desktop. It is like my graphics card think my external display is bigger than it really is.  I have tried to use Nvidia resize calibration, but it actually take away pixels from 1080 down to 810. I have also deleted by nvidia drive and reinstalled with no promise. Any input is always appreciated and thanks in advance!

Answer:W520 External Display Incorrect Size/Ratio

hey dy58,could you uninstall all graphic drivers. let windows install its generic drivers.with the generic drivers install, try again your setup and see if the aspect ratio is proper.

Here is how you get around the on battery max frequency limitation (of 1.2 GHz, at least for my i7-2620M) and no turbo (well, almost, read on): 0. Assuming you have max performance enabled everywhere possible (BIOS/PowerManager/Windows Power Scheme)1. Load ThrottleStop.2. Set the multiplier manually to your maximum multiplier (e.g., 27x for i7-2620M, 23x for i7-2820QM, etc...) or Turbo (which is the setting after your max multiplier).3a. Enable ThrottleStop3b. (optional) Check in CPU-Z and make sure that your highest multiplier is being used when the CPU is utilized. If you selected Turbo, you should have turbo enabled at this point.4. Disable ThrottleStop5. Exit ThrottleStop, so that it doesn't waste any battery power, since it is no longer needed This will change the max frequency (and max multiplier) available from whatever Lenovo decided to arbitrarily fix it at (e.g., 1.2GHz) to the correct max frequency (which in my case is 2.7 GHz / 3.2 GHz for turbo). Now your laptop will be able to correctly go from 800MHz to whatever is the max frequency of your CPU, using both EIST and C1E. Turbo will also kick in, if you enabled it in ThrottleStop and the Lenovo PowerManager app will even show it as enabled. Thanks Unclewebb for letting us get around this stupid max CPU frequency limitation that Lenovo has imposed on us. Disclaimer:Do this at your own risk, since Lenovo does not officially support it.Turn on active cooling, if you do CPU intensive stuff for any... Answer:W520: How to get full speed and turbo on battery power

Hi, I have the opposite problem - my i7-2720QM is fixed at 2.2GHz no matter how hard I spank 1, 2 or all cores, and no matter what System Performance settings I apply.  It even runs at this speed, and gives the same bench marks when on battery  with the "system performance" set to Low.     No one even knows what the various System Performance settings actuall mean. E.g. Neither Lenvo support nor these forums could tell me what the difference between "Maximum Turbo","Turbo" or even "Low" under "System Performance" in the Lenovo power manager Advanced settings. I have been trying go get turbo boost to work for 2 months. I have wasted so much time with this machine, I could have bought 2 Macbook pros for the cost of the time lost. I dont know why Lenovo have disabled the turbo boost (and the opposite, turbo drop?)  feature for this CPU - is it deliberate, or incompetence?  Its certainly false marketing and extremely annoying that I have to use my ancient PC to do single threaded type work which I know the Laptop can manage if it were not crippled. So people whos clock speed drops when on battery are the lucky ones.  Mone doesnt even if I want it to.

Answer:T400 Different memory size in each slot

1) the t400 can take up to 8 gigs of ram, so 2 + 4 gigs would work.2) the maximum speed the T400 supports is the 1066 mhz, although the 1333 mhz ram works too, but they will switch to 1066 mhz speed in your T400.

Is anyone using the full height PCIe slot in the x120e? Nothing I put in there is recognized in Windows 7. If I move the current 1/2 height wireless to the full slot, it still does not work so I know it's not the card I'm using (which works in the 1/2 height slot). I've tried a new wireless card and an HD decoder card and nothing works in the full slot.
