Preferred Solution: W500 missing deivers after loading Windows 7 - can't be found using Windows Update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: W500 missing deivers after loading Windows 7 - can't be found using Windows Update

Hi hgkaroley,

Have you downloaded the TVT System Update from the support site?
You can also download individual drivers here: Drivers and software - ThinkPad T500, W500

Let me know if that works out for you!

Answer:Missing drivers W500 4062-3JG in Windows 7

Hi zmaller,

I'm pretty sure the "PCI Simple Communication Controller" is this one:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73723

And the Ericsson WWAN adapter is this one:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-75686

For the other two devices it would be useful if you post the HW ID for those. Doubleclick on the device, click the details tab and select Hardware IDs using the dropdown box. Did you install and run system update that will download and install the drivers for you a lot easier?

I received a ThinkPad W500 laptop from a seller on eBay, and it came with a user already set up (no password), and whenever I ran Windows Update gave an error, Lenovo System Update aborted, Windows Defender couldn't update, I couldn't update Internet Explorer, and I couldn't install Microsoft Security Essentials. I did a factory restore and ran into the same problems. I'm afraid the factory image has malware on it but I have no idea how to investigate it. I'm not sure if wiping the hard drive (and partitions) or replacing it would fix it, and I'm not sure how to check if it's in the firmware. Any ideas? Here's the errors:Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be inititialized.Internet Explorer's version is not compatible with the version you're running (even though Microsoft only gives you one button to download)Lenovo System Updates: Expection Not Expected was encounteredWindows Update: Error Code 8024A000, which Windows Help says is most likely a virusSeveral websites couldn't open: support.microsoft.com and start.lenovo.comWindows Defender got error 0xc8000247Microsoft Fix It couldn't install PowerShellMicrosoft Security Essentials would download but wouldn't installThis has all the markings of malware but I installed and ran MalwareBytes which found nothing, and neither did Norton Security Scan, so that's why I think the virus is in the factory image or firmware.

Answer:W500 factory restore won't allow Windows Update or Microsoft Security Essentials

Hello,

I would suggest ordering new recovery media from Lenovo support, then doing a complete wipe of the W500's internal drive prior to using the recovery media.

Hey Guys:I have a Thinkpad W500 with 320GB Seagate 7200rpm drive. I recently bought a Seagate 750GB 7200rpm hard disk and using Seagate Disk Wizard Application I cloned the hard disk. After changing the hard disks and booting from the new one, I found out that the windows update is not working and after a search on the web I found out that the old hard drive had 512 byte sector and the new 750GB hard drive have 4K sector , to solve this issue there were many ways from installing a hotfix on old windows and cloning the disk again to installing the hotfix on new hard drive manually and replacing the DLL file, I did all and none of the worked. so I decided to install the OS on the new hard drive from the scratch , so i booted from the Lenovo Windows 7 Pro 64 bit recovery disks that came with the system, after the installation finished, the windows enters a faze of installing drivers, it shows an error   "Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed." and then it restarts and show the same error again and again and again...  At last, nothing came to my mind and i'm really stuck, I wonder if you guys can suggest any other ways.

Answer:Thinkpad W500 windows 7 update does not work after disk clone on a 750 GB Seagate Momentus Drive

I have exactly the same symptoms on my system: Lenovo T510i and Seagate 750Gb. I've tried every imaginable combination of systems and restores and clones and images, but nothing works. Essentially, Windows 7 (64 and 32 bit) runs on the 320Gb drive, but doesn't run on Seagate 750Gb. I even tried a retail version of Windows 7.

Hi all,

I just reinstalled windows. After going thru a-lot of problems (tried to install windows on SATA drive without having a floppy) i succeed. I thought that was the end for my problems (for now at-least) and started installing my drivers. also formatted all the other partitions and restarted the computer. Before restarting everything worked properly.
When the computer booted and the windows loading screen went on I thought it'll take it a few seconds, but it went for like 10 minutes and didn't stop loading. I decided to grab something to eat and went for about 10 more minutes. when I came back it was still loading so i decided to restart.
When windows got to the safe mode screen i decided to choose try the last best setting and it helped. windows loaded properly but didn't have the drivers i installed before, so I installed them. restart again and windows not working again.
back to take the last best setting and back to windows working. I did it step by step (installing a driver and rebooting...) but didn't installed RAID controller and USB driver.
Since i don't need them i decided to not installed them. but my problem occurs when i try to update windows. Internet Explorer stops working as soon as i go inside "windows update" or "microsoft update", but i know it worked before i did the first restart.
Also going to the Automatic Update tab in System Settings gives me an error.

What should i do?
Thanks a-lot

I have found that installing drivers it is best to do one at a time and make sure the system boots before installing another. That way you can figure out which one is giving you a problem.

I am trying to open Windows Update under Settings and it will not load. It's just a blank page where Windows Update usually is. Also, under Settings and Windows Update I can't click on Windows Defender, Backup, Recovery, Activation, or Fore Developers.

Also, I have tried to open the Windows Store and the wheel keeps spinning. That's all it will do.

I can't make a screenshot because I can't get the screenshot to paste in paint.

So basically, the problem is that I can't open anything except for Microsoft Edge which is what I am now because the Windows 10 applications are not working properly.

This is my Desktop PC. It's an Acer XC603G that originally came with Windows 8.1 that was upgraded to Windows 10. (Intel Processor)

Please help!

Hi.
For how long has this been happening? Can you use system restore to go back to a time before the problems started?

If not, try running the system file checker to see if things can be corrected. If the results are "found problems but could not correct", then please run it three times, with reboots in-between.

If that doesn't work, the next step would be DISM.

Next after that would be a repair install by doing an in-place upgrade.

p.s. screenshots can be easily made with the snippet feature - search "snip"

Bought a gateway solo 1100 on EBAY. Came without an operating system. Tried to load, went through the PhoenixBios that came loaded on windows. Wouldn't let me access my DVD/CD rom drive, so I booted the system from my 98 windows startup disk that I got from bootdisk.com. Used Fdisk, and the format tool and nothing happened. I replaced the motherboard, harddrive and now I replaced the DVD/CD rom drive back to just a CD drive. I know my hard drive is good, used it to boot up another computer. It's partitioned and formatted in Windows XP. When I startup my Gateway solo 1100, it will boot from the a: prompt, i try to format drive c: and get an error message stating bad command or something similar to that. I don't have any other bios loaded on this system but the PhoenixBios that was originally loaded on this system. It has a 6.5 hard drive, 128 mb ram, and a 466 mhz chipset systemboard. What do I do. I have just about updated every piece of hardware on this system, and I don't have a clue of what to do next. If I could just get my new CD rom drive to be recognized? Any Suggestions!!! Any technical support would be greatly appreciated. I bought this system the middle of January and haven't gotten to use it uet. It has been nothing but one headache after the other. So I'm having some problems with Windows Update...this is my parent's computer and I do scan regularly with Avast and Malwarebytes- no threats.

I go to update Windows Updates and it just stays on the loading screen...with 0% progress....however...from time to time I notice when I go to shut down the computer I get one of those icons on my shut down button that you sometimes get from updates so I don't know what's going on...I get that icon and at shut down it says updates 1 of 1 are installing do not turn off your computer, but then after reboot when I go back to Windows Updates it's now 1 less, so I had 14 updates now I have 11 but I still never saw the progress bar! nothing! there was no indication that updates were being installed it was always at 0% I waited over 5 hours- almost all day.

I'm just confused, and now it's saying I have 10 updates and again it's just stuck at the loading screen, no progress..
can anyone help me out with this?

Answer:Windows not Loading after update, hangs on "Loading operating system."

Hello deralickt and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you receiving any error codes? Are you able to boot your machine in Safe Mode? If yes, see if you can access System Restore and go back to a date/time prior to the update. If you don't have a restore point you could also see if that update is showing in Windows Update History. If it is, try uninstalling it.

Safe Mode

System Restore

Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

The failed update may have damaged or corrupted some system files. From Safe Mode you could try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Since you have an install DVD you could also try a Repair Install to fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc.

Repair Install

A repair install may require that you reinstall a bunch of Windows Updates. I found it's safer (but more time consuming) to install just a few at a time rather than all at once. If you install a few at a time you can reboot, see if there are any issues, and if there are, you'll know exactly which 3 or 5 or 10 updates you need to remove. Reinstall them one at a time. They'll either all install correctly or you'll know exactly which one(s) are problematic. (If you install all at once and later find out there's a problem it's almost impossible to know which update is inv... Read more

Hello!
So, I was using my laptop a few weeks ago without the charger and it died on me. When I went to turn it on the next day while it was plugged in I got this bootmgr error:

http://i.imgur.com/CMO7qX9.jpg
I got a startup repair disk on eBay which enabled me to try the Startup Repair tool, SEVERAL times, and it didn't work. I've also tried the bootrec fix, the diskpart fix, and bcdedit via command prompt and none of them worked.
(I'm including screencaps of those attempts)

http://i.imgur.com/1OyddI4.jpg

The only thing I can figure is that I'm completely missing the boot partition/volume?but Im not sure what to do.

Also, Windows7 isn't listed on the System Recovery box that first pops up (http://i.imgur.com/pISIhFc.jpg) and system restore doesn't even work. (http://i.imgur.com/dVhsR6V.jpg)
When I hit "load drivers" it lets me browse my system folder with a TON of system files and I have no idea what to select to load these drivers.
Thank you for any help!!

Since February 10th, and despite running cleaners and Tweaking, I've been unable to download and/or install any available update or even view the "real" Update home page.  My update page (snip attached) shows "upgrade to Windows 10" with a hyperlink to "show all available updates".  At the available updates page, whether I checkmark one, or three, or all 15 updates, there's a permanent notation stating I've already selected "1 optional update" (snip attached).

BTW, the setting has always been "check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", and many months ago I uninstalled and hid KB3035583 and KB2952664.

I found a hidden file in C drive named $WINDOWS.~BT, but it only had 73.4 MB (deleted it).  I ran Disk Cleanup, and then clicked on "View system files", and there it is...7.11 GB in "Windows Update Cleanup". Snip attached.

Does anyone know if I tell it to delete those system files if it really actually delete what's in this Update Cleanup?  And where is this Update Cleanup file?  I don't see it anywhere.

Answer:Found Windows 10 in Windows Update Cleanup

The windows update cleanup log is called Deepclean.log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\DeepClean.log Any packages it finds for removal will show as such in the log:

Anyone with security software generating error message about missing mfc110u.dll or any one or more of the mfc100[etc].dll family can try this: Using Explorer.exe, goto C:\windows]SysWOW64 directory, line up the mfc110 family, copy the needed file or files over into the particular security software's Program Files and/or or Program Files (x86) directory[s], restart a couple of times, all should be well. I did this, and all went well.

Hello all, Anyways I have an Aspire V3-572G. I installed Windows 7, because Windows 8.1 just isn't my thing. Anyways, the driver list has a fair number of drivers for both older intel chipsets (series 7) and Broadwell (series 9). The problem was, that the list of drivers lacked a USB 3 driver for Windows 7 for the Broadwell chipset. I know someone had a similar problem in the past about a missing driver for the Aspire V3 series. Someone may stumble across this post and see they had the error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software," while trying to install the USB 3 driver listed under drivers/manuals. The problem is that the listed USB 3 driver(s) might be for the wrong chipset. The first flag that made me think this was the error I got when I tried installing the non-Broadwell chipset driver; it was a very similar error! I found the official Intel USB 3 driver for the 8/9 series here (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Controller-Driver). More specifically (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22824/USB-3-0-Driver-Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Control... I can verify that this driver works for my laptop at least. I assume there are numerous Aspire notebooks out there with the Intel Broadwell chipset, but without the Broadwell USB 3 Driver for Windows 7. I do not know how to tell Acer to grab the driver from Intel, but hopefully this post will make someone waste two ... Looking for easy fix if we have one

Answer:Automatic Windows Update service missing in Windows - How to re-install ??

Just as a confirmation, type services.msc in start search and hit Enter to open Services. Check if Windows Update service exists and is set to start automatically.
If it does not exist, see if doing any of these help you.
Re-register wuaueng.dll and maybe other dll files. You can get more information at Fix: Cannot Update Windows using Windows Update | WinVistaClub. Else try Fix WU too.

IDK if it is related, but I also can't update drivers in Device Mgr. It just keeps searching the web for drivers, and nothing ever happens.

bought new laptop in October all running fine on Windows 2010 Home and Business. updates ran about 10 days ago and internet and outlook stopped working, so I reversed all the updates and all was well. happened again overnight and again reversed everything.
now I have given up as I saw fix was due on 22/02/13 - but that hasn't fixed everything. IE is now fine, but outlook won't send or receive. have talked to ISP and nothing wrong with their end. so I try and reinstall everything but updates appear to load and then reverse out.

have spoken to microsoft - useless

only 2 of the updates aren't loading - any help ideas that don't involve me throwing laptop out the window and screaming?

Well apparently there was a massive Windows update yesterday - which installed itself this morning. I say massive, because despite having a good desktop CPU & fast SSD, it took more than 10 minutes to update, which is surprising.

I noticed the "Windows Update" options are now missing from the control panel - which does not allow me to see any details about the updates that were installed.
I also noticed a new icon in/near the system tray, the icon says "People" if you mouseover. I'm tempted to click it but was hoping to know what it is all about first.

Hey guys. Yesterday I came home from work to a black screen that said "Error Loading OS". Not sure how this happened, so I restarted it and it came right back to that. Spent a few minutes digging around and found out that my hard drive was not set in the BIOS as a boot drive (although no idea how that changed), so I switched it back and the computer booted fine.

Today, I come home from work and again, I see the black screen that says "Error Loading OS". I restarted, went in the BIOS, and saw that of 4 hard drives in the system, only 1 (non boot) showed up. This is weird. I shut down for a few minutes, booted it back up to the BIOS, and my primary hard drive was listed again. Selected that, and Windows booted up fine.

Was using the computer for about an hour when everything just froze. The mouse still worked and moved, but nothing else at all was working. So I restarted again, and I got to a "Windows failed to start" / 0xc000000f error. Off to the BIOS again, where again, only 2 or 3 of my 4 hard drives were listed. I shut down, left it for a few minutes, rebooted back, and selected my primary drive again. Then I went ahead and created an image of my primary drive just in case.

I have no idea what this is and could use some help figuring it out. I thought it might be a hard drive failure, or it could be something messed up in my motherboard. I have a 64GB Crucial M4 SSD drive that is less than a year old, along with an ASRock Z68 PRO3 motherboa... Read more

Answer:[SOLVED] Error loading OS / Missing HDs / Windows failed to start / 0xc000000f

The c000000f error (File does not exist) is peculiar.

Anyways, If your BIOS is having difficulty enumerating more than one drive, I would venture to put my money on it being the motherboard at fault (unless you're using a drive controller card). The only other exception would be the power supply, in which it is having a difficult time powering the multiple drives. So you'll want to see about replacing the motherboard right now, as it's very evident this could be the cause and that there's absolutely no driver or Windows software that would create this kind of issue.

or use smartphones modem to access communication text and call

i tried using windows 8.1 and windows 7 suite
windows 8 won't just start it appear nothing i check process and it just close

for windows 7 it says its not for this OS *for obvious reason*

btw bluetooth is Qualcomm Atheros AR3011 Bluetooth 3.0
driver version installed 10.0.1.7
USB\VID_0489&PID_E02C&REV_0001

it is working fine and pair ok with smartphone
but alot of missing features.

unlike when it was on windows 7

Answer:Missing Bluetooth features after windows 10 update from windows 7

Did some searching... Happened to find THIS thread. I downloaded and inspected the driver file. The good news is the driver INF file includes your hw ID USB\VID_0489&PID_E02C. Though it's an older driver

Code:
DriverVer=03/20/2014,8.0.0001.0320

Worth a try as original thread says it works on Windows 10. Though your problem may be with specific Bluetooth profiles (each BT profile provides different functionality and same profile must be supported on both PC and your portable BT device to get the function to work). Create a system restore point before you install.

In worst case, at least USB BT adapters aren't expensive.

You won't get it if the utility decides
1) you don't have SP1 installed properly
2) Your system is non-genuine
3) Your system doesn't meet the required specs for Win10
4) you have corruption or missing files.

It looks like your system should meet the spec, so let's check the other stuff...

After that the computer is working really slowly and often seems to freeze for a minute or so. Has anyone else had this problem? I am an inexperienced user and don't know how to find out if KB 904942 is a vital update, otherwise I might try deleting it to see if things run any better. My dell laptop recently had a crtical windows update. Since then it has been loading the dell default profile (alternating between 2 of them!). My desktop icons and gadgets are not loaded but my data files are still in place. Biggest problem is configuring my outlook again and setting up the network to my xp computer. I get a message to check user profile event log after each boot up. I have dell recovery disks which will take it back to factory setings. Should I backup my data and do a clean reinstall? Alternatively, could I reinstate my desktop (ie. reconfigure outlook, put the desktop icons back on etc) to what it was before and get it to load that profile? But it may lose the profile and just boot up as the standard dell profile again like it is doing now. I haven't imaged my computer, would that have made any difference or solved the problem?

Recently, I had to do a factory reinstall on my Dell Laptop which reverted it back to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1 in addition to drivers, software, etc. That worked out fine when using the disks, but I discovered another issue. When trying to get Windows Updates to install on my system, all I get is the screen that it's checking for updates and it keeps checking, but nothing ever gets installed. I've tried everything under the sun online to try to remedy this, but with no success. I've tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter as well, but I get an error of "problem installing recent updates." It did fix a "service registration is missing or corrupt" though. I've probably spent hours on trying to fix this, but to no avail. Any possible solutions or ideas?

I click on windows update and when I get to the screen that is
checking for the latest version of windows update software..

it just hangs in limbo, it claims to say it will take a minute or two and in the past it hasalways been 10-20 seconds.

when I click over on the left "Welcome"
after a few seconds the screen refreshes but when I click scan for updates it says it never finished loading and click cancel to refresh and then it just hangs there again infinitly.

Running registered windows XP pro w/sp1

if I need to include anymore info please let me know.

Answer:Windows update won't finish loading

I had the same problem before but it was with Win2K. My problem was there was some spyware that prevented the Windows Update from working correctly, so that might be your case. Have you scanned your computer for any viruses or spyware lately? Also are you running a firewall? If so try turning it off then running Windows Update. Hope this helps.

Answer:When loading Windows Update, not working

Welcome to SF camerongrowden

*Do a SFC Scannow and reboot if it finds violations. If it says it found and it couldn't fix them, run the scan 2 more times.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

*Reset WU components and see if it brings it back to normal.
Windows Update - Reset

*One question: What antivirus do you use?

Try the above and post back for further suggestions.

Hi all, I'm a tech-illiterate person, and I hope you can help.

Basics: Acer Aspire 5920G, Windows Vista Home Premium, purchased February 2008.

Two points:

1. I initially admired the Acer Arcade InstantOn feature, as it allows me to watch a movie without having to boot Windows and then launching Acer Arcade from there. I have tried it once or twice, and was successful.

Lately, though, every time I press the launch button, the screen tells me that BOOTMGR is missing, and to press CTRL ALT DEL. I tried to reinstall the InstantOn Arcade but I supposedly don't have enough space.

2. Also, there are moments whenever I press the power button and the Acer splash screen shows up, and when it's about to load Windows, the laptop suddenly shuts down. I wait for a few seconds and try again, and it takes me up to 10 times before Windows finally boots. This happens even when I'm plugged in, or when I'm using a fully charged battery. Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this normal?

When I asked this question of Acer through their online support, they suggested using System Restore. This did not really work, because whenever I tried to launch InstantOn, I would still get the missing BOOTMGR message.

They also suggested restoring the laptop to the factory default. Short of having to do that (I don't have a Windows recovery CD; Windows Vista was preinstalled, though I did make the recovery DVDs as a precaution), I am looking for alternative solutions.

Hello, I hope some one can help me.

I have a compaq v3070tu laptop with Windows XP Pro SP2 32 bit. I was having a problem with the wireless connectivity and while searching for remedies I read that it could be because of an old bios version. I checked the current installed bios on my laptop and it was an f11. The latest version on the hp website was f39, so i downloaded and installed the f39.

While installing it also said that it had backed up the old bios version. After installation the computer shut down, but when i started it again windows xp did not load.

Windows is now not even starting in safe mode. All i get is the initial xp startup screen for 2 seconds after which there is a flash of a blue screen with stuff written that I cannot read, and then the machine restarts.

I have a xp installation cd with which i tried to reinstall xp, but it now says that even the hard disk is not detected and therefore xp cannot be installed. But I went into bios and did a harddisk scan which was completed. So I don't understand how the hard disk is not being detected.

Can someone please tell me how I can get into windows and somehow reinstall the old bios and get things back to normal? There should be a backup somewhere of the bios, since the software said so while installing.

It's really upsetting and I'm cursing myself for uploading the bios.

I hope someone can help me.

After further reading I wasnt aware of the problems with lenovo computers and 8.1. A day or two later i realized that windows 8 upgraded the O.S and ever since then any program that I open takes a while to boot. Ive also noticed this when uninstalling programs. I really don't know what to do at  this point. Im frustrated, I've been using my old windows vista laptop instead as it is way faster then my current s510p. I've read online about uninstalling the ?Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework? from the device manager. will this solve something? thanks.

Windows Update not working & drivers not loading

I have installed Windows XP Home Edition (no service packs) for the first time on a Sony Vaio VGN-A290 laptop. Laptop had major display problems when I got it, so I installed the new XP to start from scratch.

The laptop now runs well and looks good to me. However, It will not install any service packs from Windows Update. I have tried SP1a and SP2. The small security updates are getting through.

The Windows Update download/installation starts up but stalls in the first stage. There is no error message, just spins its wheels.

I tried to install some of the driver updates available from Sony for my model. Many of those installed well, but some "could not read system information". When I tried to install the original driver package for the motherboard, the display crashed again.

I started over with a new XP install, and am back at working computer unable to run Updater.

I have diagnostics from MGADiag.exe

IE 6 show sblank screen when loading windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Windows XP Pro user with administrator privileges has blank screen when connecting to the windows update page. Same user received error message that activeX is not enabled when attempting an online scan at onecare.live.com User follows instructions to enable activex controls, but still receives same messages.

Spybot and ad-aware run with only minor files found (tracking cookies, etc). Local Panda 2006 antivirus reports no virus or threats. IEfix run to register assorted *.dll with no improvements.

When different user logs intop system (with different user profile and settings), update page loads and runs with no problems.

CleanMyPC registry cleaner ran and cleaned up 300 errors in COM/ActiveX area. Still no improvement.

Any Ideas???

Answer:IE6 blank screen when loading windows update

Let me suggest a work around.

In this case;
1- Create a new user ( administrator )
2- With your problem account go to C:\Documents and Settings\**username(the one with the problem)** and copy all.
3- Go to C:\Documents and Settings\**username(new one)** and paste everything you copied. Click yes to all when prompted.
4- Restart go to the new account. Change the names of the accounts. Then do an intensive check of your data. If everything you desire is transfered you can delete the problem account. I am pretty confident that since even your desktop background is transfered to the new account you would be satisfied.

My sister's laptop is currently having an issue loading after a recent windows update. She restored it before the update, but the issue still persists, even in safe mode. It's like a snail's pace to load everything in. Her laptop sat a black screen (mouse still visible) with the Windows build on center top and the word safe mode in the corners for a while. But eventually it did load in the rest of the icons/taskbar/etc. Is there a way to figure out why it's performance is still awful after doing a system restore?

Hi there,
I'm noticing a few issues. In order of appearance:
1. Many websites stopped displaying correctly. I have a feeling this has something to due with Javascript (not Java). Dynamic (?) content is gone in both Firefox 19.02 and IE 8. Hotmail fails to login. When attempting to redownload FF, the webpage does not actually give me the option: the header (three images and Tour | Desktop | Mobile | Add-ons | Support | About) and footer (privacy policy | Legal notices) are there, but everything in between is missing. Here's the page I'm refering to: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-19.0.2&os=win&lang=en-US
2. Windows update throws an error: 8024402F
3. M$ Mouse & Keyboard center fails to load. I get a popup (multiple times in a row) telling me to reinstall it. I have an old sidewinder mouse, but I can't say I've ever used that piece of software.
4. The wireless icon no longer shows up.
The only thing that's changed was that I installed Skype. It has since been removed.
Comodo & MBAM show no issues. This is a desktop PC, W7 x64.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I ran the programs and obtained the logs asked for in the sticky but I'm not posting them here. Why? Because this applet thingy to post messages isn't working right (in BOTH browsers) and it's ignoring line breaks unless I use HTML tags. And I'll be damned if I'm going through those logs to add a BR tag t... Read more

Hi there.

I'm running Windows Vista 32bit SP1 on a Dell Inspiron 1545. Windows did an automatic update today when I loaded up the laptop and I reset as usual. Started up as I normally do but for some reason the startup did a BSOD on me and I got a "Windows failed to start due to a hardware or software failure/error"... seeing as it was fine previously I'm guessing this due to the updates recently. The only options I have are doing a system startup repair (which I tried but it just sat on a black screen for a while before a mouse cursor popped up which moves but nothing else appears), or to start windows normally which does the vista loading bar but then restarts after BSOD again. I tried to go into safe mode... but the same thing happens. It looks like I may have to reinstall Vista again, which would be a pain. Is there any way I can get around this and is this a common problem at the moment? I haven't been updatign my laptop for a while due to only just getting the internet back in the house, so this could have been a recent problem?

Please advise me of anything I can do.

I must have been infected with a virus. It happened during the day when I was at work and my computer was on standby. I came home and found the Operating System Not Found error on my black screen. I downloaded the Wondershare Liveboot and ran that and it froze. My son stopped it because he downloaded the Windows 7 Operating System installation program on a USB drive and tried to load that to reload Windows 7. Now all I can get is a black screen telling me my File: \Boot\BCD file is missing.

I have a Dell Inspirion Laptop with 8 GB memory, 250 GB hard drive. 64 bit operating system.

Where do I find the File: \Boot\BCD to reload on my computer. I can't access the partition, the recovery program, nothing.

Can someone please help me?!

Desperate. I've had this computer only six months, and yes I had a full Virus Scan program on my computer.

Answer:Windows 7 Virus - File \Boot\BCD Missing, Operating System Not Found

If you have only had the system for 6 months then call dell and tell them the error you get. They are very good at supporting current customers that are under their warranty. It sort of sounds like you had the computer turned off during an update in progress. My son did the same thing to the PC I built for him and we ended up replacing the drive to fix it. That is not to say that your drive is bad but mine is a real nice paper weight on a windy day.

I have Windows Update set to notify me when updates are ready so I can have some control over the time things are being done. So I get a little icon in my status bar and I click it and it asks if I want to download (yes) and now, install (yes) and I get "Installation complete". Then 10 seconds later it's back. It's the same file and I've installed it several times and it keeps coming back. The update installer seems happy as heck each time.

Zone Alarm shows full permission for "Update Automatic Updates" and "Ask" for "Update Manager for NT". I would be inclined to remove both from the Program List and let them "meet" Zone Alarm again so I can be sure the both have full, enduring permission. Does that seem like a plan?

(windows 7 pro SP1 64bit)
Hi everybody,

this is my first post here.

2 weeks ago, one of our business laptop had some problems with windows update.
I started by the usual, MS fix-it, hot fixes, reset update history...name it, I have done them all...
Result is always the same :

After trying every damn possible solutions i could find, I said f** it and I reinstalled windows after performing a deep format on the PC's hard drive.

I thought this would do the trick, as always, but ehh... (everytime I install windows 7 Pro sp1, I run these two, one at a time - no internet - and i reboot between each of them : "1-Windows6.1-KB3138612-x64.msu" and "2-Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu")

Those always worked like a charm, they push windows update to find his first 200+ updates batch in less than 3 min. I love it and I always use it when I freshly install windows 7 pro SP1.

And actually it worked, I could download and install the first big batch of updates as usual... but then after rebooting...

We are right back where we started.

Help me please, Im gonna throw this fu***er PC out my window.

PS: i also followed the steps before creating a post : SURT searched for updates for 1 day and a half so i closed it, and SFC /scannow didn't came up with any errors. I am also not able to upload my CBS.zip file (404 not found) so I uploaded it on GoogleDrive :" CBS.zip - Google Drive "

Thank You

After updating to Windows 8.1 I constantly get "page not found" in my browser. If I refresh the page everything is fine.

It's not connected to the browser - it happens in both Firebox, Chrome and Explorer
It has nothing to do with the network - it happens no matter if I'm at home or at a friends house using their internet

I'm no tech idiot, but no wiz either. Especially not when it comes to proxy and stuff.

Can anyone help me? It's tremendously annoying having to refresh every 5-6 page I try to enter.

Hello all, let me start from the beginning.
I was attempting to install a game that required an install of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. For some reason this would not install properly. After searching about for a while I found a few people saying that downloading the latest Windows update was necessary.
"Oh great, a fix!" I thought, but to my dismay, every time I attempted to update I was presented with the following error message.

"Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."
I tried restarting a few time to no avail. I tried switching to never update, restarting, and switching back to auto update. Didn't work. I thenk looked into my services.msc to see if it was stopped, but I can't even find it in the list. I know for a fact
where it SHOULD be, I'm not overlooking it, it's just not there. I'll attach a screen cap to show you.
I need some help here. I've tried the Microsoft fix it tool that many people have suggested also with no luck. I'm not exactly a computer expert, so replies in as-close-to-layman terms as you can would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Answer:Windows update not found in services.msc

Hi Mike,

I suggest you perform a
system restore to check the result.

If the issue persists, you can also try the following:

1. Try to take the step 5 in this KB to Register Windows Update engine files.

2. Use
System File Checker tool to scan the system.

3. Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

For detail steps:

1). Insert the Windows 7 installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2). Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ?". appears.
3). Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.
4). Click Repair your computer.
5). In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
6). At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
7). Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
8). In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.

Hope this helps

What started as a crippling annoyance has escalated out of control. Windows auto updater, the bane of my existence, downloaded a patch and forced my computer to restart. Somewhere during that process, my laptop ran out of power and died, and upon rebooting, would load to configuring update, only to proceed to configuring failed, revoking changes or something to that effect. It would hang there for as long as I was patient to wait for it, which was a good half an hour. I proceeded to do shut it down and attempt a system repair, which apparently was successful, but I still had the same problem. I then went to system backup, only to find to my immense concern that there wasn't a restore point at all (which is unusual because the last time I did a system restore, I had several) I then proceeded to attempt multiple means to fix things, with only running in safe mode with networking to allow me to log in. Eventually it offered to run a CHKDSK scan, which apparently found and cleaned a metric ton of files in a variety of manners, but now it won't load at all. Trying to boot it in any mode causes the laptop to hang indefinitely on the windows logo, attempting to repair the operating system with the installation disk merely causes it to search endlessly for an operating system to repair, despite having found one flawlessly before the CHKDSK scan - I'm now attempting to run a startup repair with the F8 menu, but it is currently searching endlessly for problems.

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

Hey, for some reason after my computer got updated yesterday, I cannot boot into Windows. I get to the screen with the bars going by and it just stays there. I left it on for hours trying to wait it out and it would still stay there.

I tried booting into safe mode and that didn't work either. I ran Chkdsk, tried to repair vista boot, tried to restore, and none of those worked.

I have XP installed on another partition which boots fine so I have direct access to all the files, but I don't know if and what anything is corrupt.

Reformatting is not an option due to time constraints.

Is there anyway I can uninstall the last update from windows? I am pretty sure that is what caused this but not positive.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello,

So yesterday I went to shut down my computer when Windows only gave me the option "Update & Shut Down" so I gave in and let it do its thing and update. I left it to update over night and came back this morning to a black loading screen with a little spiral spinning around and around. I could use my mouse but ctrl alt delete or any other shortcut didn't do anything.
Pics including specs and a photo of the loading screen here: Help - Album on Imgur

I've tried restarting it and booting up in safe mode but no progress unfortunately :/.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi, I just updated all of my computers hardware.

Now I have:

ASUS M2a VA motherboard
AMD XP 64 5000+ processor
Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX
2gb ram

When I power on my computer, everything goes fine. It takes me to the screen where it says that Windows closed abnormally, bla bla bla, choose safe mode, last known good config, etc.

When I choose any of these, it blinks the Windows loading screen, and then blinks what appears to be a blue screen of death, then the computer restarts.

What's the problem? I have Windows XP Professional installed. I would REALLY not want to do a format and reinstall of everything if possible. Do I need Windows XP professional 64 or something?

Answer:BSOD after hardware update right after the Windows loading screen

It could be a hard drive issue. If it's looping then the hard drive could have failed or be failing. Find out the manufacturer of the hard drive and go to their web site and download the tests. Then create a boot able CD and boot off it and run the tests.

Okay, basically, at around 5 a.m. this morning my Windows (I have a Compaq running Windows XP Media Edition) decides to run the typical automatic Windows updates, were it eventually comes to the Windows blue loading screen (like when you first log-in) and previously, these automatic updates have finished with no problems at all, with relatively fast loading time. But this time around, it seems to be stuck or atleast loading very slowly...it's been at "Updates are being installed (3 of 3)..." for 7 hours now. I'm not sure what to do about this...if I should just wait it out, or turn off my computer. Because it's also telling me "Do not turn off your computer; it will turn off automatically." so I don't want to end up killing my entire system or something, since I didn't get a chance to back up all my files this morning before it tried to update.

I've heard some horror stories from friends saying they waited up to 12 hours for it to finish, and other's saying they just shut it off and it ended up ruining their system.

Given those two options, obviously, I would wait...But, I could really use some advice on what I should do here. Do I have any other options?

Answer:Windows Update Problem - Not loading? *advice needed*

It may be having a hard time connecting to the server, thus interrupting the process now and then.

Hi there,

I am using Toshiba Satellite M300 loaded with Win Vista 32 Bit form last three year but today when I resume my laptop from sleep mode, it take long time to resume and then got hanged. So, I decided to switch off and start it again. On welcome screen. it displays message "Operating System not found" and also started beeping whenever I press any key.

Then, I have inserted win Vista DVD for System recovery and it did well and confirm to restart the computer. On re-starting it again displays the same message. I have repeated this action 3 times and got the same message. I usually save my data on external hard drive as well so I decided to delete all data on laptop hard drive thinking of some virus has blocked the OS to resume though I use AVG 2011 to protect my local data.

Lastly, after couple of hours of deleting all data from the drive and I finally again restart the laptop with another error message but this time it is " BOOTMGR is missing" and this has bit gob smacked me. I think I have also cleaned the win vista off my drive or not.....but I now confused and looking for suggestions to move me to right track.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Randip

Answer:Windows Vista error - Firstly 'Operting System not found' and now 'BOOTMGR is missing

It seems that your hard drive is failing. You need a new drive.

Hi,
I've come across posts where people who have installed the kb3035583 update, but the Get Windows 10 app icon is not showing up in their taskbar.
However, my problem is different. I have not received the kb3035583 update, and it is not showing up in Windows Update either. I haven't hid or uninstall this update in the past. Anyone else run into this problem and have a solution? I'm on Win 7 sp1.

Turn off your firewall. Also, if you have an anti-virus, disable it's firewall. Hopefully that works!

Posting this one for my loving boyfriend.

Last night he installed the windows updates that he had queued and went to bed. This morning it was ready to be rebooted so he rebooted the PC and got a message along the lines of "The following services are preventing windows from shutting down: Windows Update" A few minutes later it went to the shutdown screen proper and rebooted fine.

When it came back up things were fine at first, but after a few minutes he couldn't access files. He rebooted again and after that the machine can't find the hard drive. It's not listed in BIOS. He said that the drive clicks three times and then he can hear it whir. PXE can't find the drive either.

I asked him what updates were installed and he doesn't know off hand, just that it was around 2 dozen that came in as 90 mbs. He is running Windows 7 64-bit. I don't know the rest of the specs on the computer and we kind of can't boot it up to find out.

Answer:Hard Drive not Found After Windows Update

Hi clicking hardrive usually means it is dying or dead time for a new harddrive,it has nothing to do with the updates that would be coincidental

I am wondering if this is a false result and there are not really any corrupted files.
My computer (Windows 7 x64) is about 2 years old, and has been a very clean computer. I update my image periodically with minimal applications on the image (Microsoft office, Chrome are only extra programs on the image) each time. My latest image is from late November of this year (updated to that point.)

I run SFC /scannow periodically just to monitor my system to see if any problems. I usually run it after Windows update. I had run it just yesterday as a periodic check, and no integrity violation were found. Today, after a fairly large Windows update (1 Internet Explorer update, 6 X64-based Systems updates, 1 Malicious Software tool for December 2014, 1 X64 security update, and 5 Microsoft Office updates), I ran sfc /scannow and it stated: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them

Again, this was the first time I ever did not have the "Windows did not find any integrity violations" results and I do sfc /scannow at least once a month.

I extracted the CBS.log results with findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

It states:

2014-12-10 11:36:12, Info CSI 00000009 [SR] Verifying 100 (0x0000000000000064) components

Answer:SFC found corrupt files after Windows update - never had any before

Also, I want to add:

I did narrow it down to the WIndows Update causing these results.

I refreshed my latest image from 11-22-14. After getting back into the refreshed computer. I ran sfc /scannow and it reported Windows did not find any integrity violations.

I then ran Windows update, which install the same updates, I listed above. I then restarted my computer as the update suggested.

I then ran sfc /scannow and it found: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them

I then extracted the cbs.log file and the results sfcdetails.txt seemed the same as before as described above. Note: I forgot to save the sfcdetails.txt file before I did a refresh of my image to compare verbatim but it seems exactly the same.

Has anyone else ran sfc /scannow since the Windows 7 update yesterday/today? I am wondering if the update is doing this for others.
