GOBI 3000 Mobile Broadband (0A36185) for W530 (Sprint)

Question: GOBI 3000 Mobile Broadband (0A36185) for W530 (Sprint)

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card. Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network. My carrier is sprint. I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan. They said it didn't matter that I had this card. I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card. What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it? And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Preferred Solution: GOBI 3000 Mobile Broadband (0A36185) for W530 (Sprint)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

Anyone use sprints mobile broadband? I'm curious to how their ping times are and how you like the service.. I currently have isdn and would like to upgrade to something faster, but satellite and sprint seem to be the only options that are available in my area at the moment.

When will dsl be available? Hell, can't get a straight answer from bellsouth so i'm about tired of waiting around.. My local cable company plays mafia with their coverage and refuse's to expand to my area reguardless of the fact that theres just 3.8miles between me and the last cable line.. Between me and that line, theres 75 plus house's.. Heh.. comcast sucks when it comes to stuff like that.

Anyways, run into any Fap ((fair access policy)) issues with sprint? Can you game with it? Least Wow or maybe eq2?

HP has not released drivers for the NC8230 yet, maybe it is that??

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

I wasn't sure where to ask this question, but since it kind of relates to networking, here goes. A friend of mine has Sprint mobile broadband using a USB-thingy to connect. He said he tried connecting after plugging in an ethernet cable attached to a switch or hub (not a router) and the modem would not connect. He said he got some kind of message (I don't remember the exact details). He decided to unplug the ethernet cable and try again; after that the modem worked as usual. Do these things have some kind of "feature" that won't allow them to function if a network connection is present? I tried searching for others with this problem and didn't come up with any mention of it any where.

A friend has Sprint Mobile Broadband service via a USB receiver. It works fine, and he needed an antivirus program - no big deal, right. Well we tried Avast, AVG Free, and the trial of Kaspersky. None of them could connect to their updates server to receive new virus definitions/program updates. Avast even kicked us offline all together.

Does anyone know what is it about the mobile broadband that is giving us trouble? I know it doesn't work like an ordinary broadband connection... but how so I don't know. He's running an HP laptop with Vista Home Premium.

My family and I are planning to be on the move soon, and I was looking for wireless internet options. Sprint Broadband seems like a good choice for only $60 a month. The USB device can be used on a desktop and laptop, which I like:

http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASApp/onlinestore/en/Action/DisplayPhones?phoneSKU=SWC597DORA

I know very little about wireless internet though. The service allows a max of 5gb a month on network and 300mb off network. Is this sufficient for playing MMORPG's once in awhile (not every day)?

Also, can a router be hooked up to this somehow? My wife and I have computers, so it would be nice to share this between the two so we can play games together.

Answer:Sprint Mobile Broadband and MMORPG games

The latency may be too high depending on how far you are from the tower, but I know people who have an do use mobile broadband for just such a purpose. It is doable without any extra configuration, but again latency (and possible disconnects if you are moving in a vehicle) will be an issue.

There are routers they make for mobile broadband cards. They aren't cheap and you may have to go through your carrier to get one. You may be better off using ICS and a crossover cable to share the mobile broadband. beware of patches however, they can easily gobble up your quota and this overages are out the nose I hear.

My internet connection is through a Sprint Sierra Wireless Aircard 595U USB connection. Supposedly the card can be plugged into the router and each computer in the network will then be hooked to the internet. Unfortunately few routers (including mine) have a USB connection. So I have to plug the card into one of the three computers on my network, switching the card as needed. Someone published a solution to the problem and is a follows:

Few routers that I'm aware of accept the AirCard 595U's USB connection. And only one that I'm aware of, the CradlePoint CTR350,
explicitly supports the 595U. I just got a 595U and Sprint Mobile Broadband and had the same issue of setting up a wireless home network using it. I solve the problem using Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Here are the steps I took:

1. Set up the 595U as normal, plugged into a USB port on your PC.
2. In Network Connections (assuming you're using Windows), right click on the dial-up listing for "Sprint Mobile Broadband - Sierra Wireless," and choose "Properties."
3. Click on "Advanced" tab and check the first box under "Internet Connection Sharing" to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
4. Choose "Local Area Connection" from the "Home Networking Connection" pull-down.
5. Choose "OK" and reboot computer.

Then:

1. Hook up a new wireless router (or reset y... Read more

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Answer:I wish to upgrade with mobile broadband, on my w530

Hello,
From looking at the W530's System Service Parts List, here are the mobile broadband cards which will work in the W530:

Lenovo Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 WWAN Mini-PCIe Card, P/N: 60Y3257
Lenovo Ericsson H5321GW WWAN Mini-PCIe Card, P/N: 60Y3297

Installing any other mobile broadband card will generate an error message when the W530 is powered on, so make sure you get the Lenovo-specific model with the part number mentioned above.

Confused about a few things:1. My W530 came with a ATT SIM Card, does this mean I can't use Lenovo Mobile access and need to sign a contract with ATT? the purchase page was a little misleading if that's the case. Can I get a Lenovo SIM and return my ATT SIM?Why has Lenovo loaded the Lenovo Mobile Access software on this system, It just doesn't work... 2.Cannot make the Gobi-3000 device work on Windows 8. Where are the drivers? it is unclear what the process is to get mobile broadband working even after getting the drivers to load. Documentation is very poor overall.

Hey, I updated my W530 to Win 10 Pro 64-bit a while ago, after that the mobile broadband didn't work. I've been trying to solve the problem, but i have no tricks left anymore, so meaby i can find help in here. The computer does find the SIM-card and in Windows settings -> Network and internet -> Mobilebroadband it says "Connected" and shows all informationc etc. but then in Windows settings -> Network and internet -> Status, it says in red color "No connection"  "You are not connected to any network" It DID work in Win 7, but after the update, no more. I've tried deleting drivers and installing them again, and after that updating the firmware (well it just said "no need to update firmware, it's allready the latest" something like that. Reinstalling Windows completely. Still not working. There is no Security code locking it, and i have tested that the SIM card does work fine automatically example. in my tablet. What else is there? Do i have to install Win 7 to get it working again..

Answer:W530 Mobile Broadband doesn't work after updating WIN 10

Welcome to the CommunityI'd check out the APN settings in the connection profile, according to your contract with cellular operator (tariff plan). Windows 10 APN database might have wrong APN settings for your SIM card' data.

Hi, mauroreggio

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, you should be able to see the listed network adapters in the computer. Can you post what these adapters are or take a screenshot of them? If a mobile broadband card is installed in your machine, it should show up there.

Best,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.

The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.

Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.

Hi! I just received my W530 from UPS yesterday, opened it up, and put in my Gobi 4000 Verizon card that I also got from Lenovo as advised by the rep who helped me with the order. When I turned the notebook on, I got an error that said "1802 - Unauthorized network is plugged in." Google turned up that these errors happened when you use non-Lenovo/IBM cards, but my card is purchased directly from Lenovo on the same order as my notebook. I also got an extended warranty on this computer, so I don't want to void that. What should I do? Thanks in advance. To clarify, I got the W530 as "Broadband upgradeable" (because the Gobi 4000 wasn't available preinstalled) and purchased the Gobi here: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetails/0A36318/460/5166FF91DAB5442C846A84A5FA006F9D

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

W520, i7-2820QM, BIOS 1.25, 1920x1080 FHD, 16 GB RAM, 2000M NVIDIA GPU, 500GB HDD, INTEL 6300, GOBI 3000 3G, COLOR CALIBRATOR, WINDOWS 7 PRO, FINGERPRINT READER

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

I have a question. Does anyone know if a GOBI 3000 works in a T410?  I am aware that the 1802 error may be an issue but I was wondering none the less. Thanks.

Answer:T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

Welcome to the community. Looking at this driver page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001273I'd presume that you could. hth. Eta: hmmm... Not sure now. The item at the link above is the activation program. The readme talks about a driver, but I don't see it on the matrix at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74582Odd... Last edit: found the referenced Gobi 3000 driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77035No mention of the T410 in the readme. Sorry if I caused confusion.

Answer:gobi 3000 wwan card

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

I have a new Dell and am using a Sprint Mobile Broadband connection and can't access this forum (using my Cox connection now.) It displays that "Internet Explorer Can't Display the Webpage." Do you think that is Sprint's fault or something in my Vista settings causing this. Probably Sprint as I CAN access it using Cox. But I want to make sure before I call them....

Thanks,
Sandy

Answer:Can't Access Vista Forum Using Sprint Mobile

If you can access every other website other than this one then yes its sprints fault.

There is a simple test to identify what the ISP is doing (sprint has a history of blocking domains)

open cmd from the start menu and do the two following commands

Tracert will trace the path from you to the vistax64 host and can help identify the ISP computer blocking connection.

tracert www.vistax64.com

I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)".

Answer:Gobi 3000 disappears after sleep on X220

I also have this problem on my X220 laptops. I found if you disable then re-enable the device in Device Manager, it helps to bring the Gobi card back to life. It's a workaround, but not a root cause fix.Did you find out any other info for fixing this?

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

Bill

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

Hey, is this as simple as they make it look? Can I just plug it in anywhere and get wireless service? ( of course, not EVERYWHERE). Do I have to subscribe to that service? I currently have t mobile as a provider, so if so, I'd get a tmobile one, thought I know verizon has more coverage, in my area anyway.

I just need more info before I buy, it looks to good to be true, just plug it in and connect, have to be some kinda pitfall.

Thanx in advance

Answer:A few questions about those sprint, verizon, cingular, t mobile pcmcia cards?

It's almost that simple. You can indeed get access where the service provider has the service available. Note that data service isn't necessarily in all the providers coverage area, so even though you can get phone service, that doesn't mean you'll get data service. Best to check in detail about the coverage.

Ok, this is a hard one. Iv'e called Boost CS and Nokia CS and they both don't know what to do, so I'm hoping to find an answer here.
For about 2 weeks straight, my phone was really laggy and wouldn't give me my notifications on time. I figured that lack of storage space might of been the problem and I was right. I deleted as many apps as I could but that only freed about 130mb. Seeing that I couldn't do much else, I decided to hard reset the phone.
After the hard reset, the phone was setting up. Then a message screen came up saying that The phone had a problem connecting to my cellular network with an error code of "0x80070002". I proceeded with the set up until I got to the home screen.
It was when I dragged down the notification center that I realized that the phone was using Sprint as a carrier instead of Boost. At first I thought it wouldn't be serious and everything would work as it should. I decided to try and call, text and use data.
Call and Text worked, but data did not.
Is there a way to change the carrier back to Boost? I bought the phone from a Boost retailer, and I've paid Boost for the service since day 1.

I just recently subscribed to Sprint Mobile Broadband from the 3G store, and I got the 598U Sierra USB Modem for $30, a free antenna, and bought a router from them.

My question is about the 5 gig limit that Sprint has on it's $60 a month service. If you exceed the limit, you get charged extra. Is there any type of tracking software that shows how much bandwidth has been used?

Answer:598U Sierra USB Modem & Sprint Mobile 5gig limit

What router are you using?

Usually when you use the aircards on your laptop the connection app keeps track of usage (I know sierra's apps do from experience, as does verizons). Through a router it depends on what you are using though.

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? Brand new laptop, working SIM card, Wireless Broadband connectivity is no functional !!!!!!!!

I have an issue with the Qualcom GOBI broadband option for Verizon.  I can connect fine, but my machine will power off the wireless LAN radio after a few minutes (not consistant time period.  It appears that this happens only when I am on battery power, which leads me to believe it is a power saving issue.  I think I have changed all of the appropriate powersaving settings and even turned of the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" in device manager, and it still persists. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64, the latest verizon access manager, and have mad sure all lenovo/qualcomm drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

Answer:x301 3G problem - Qualcom GOBI broadband option

Update:  Still having this problem, except I was wrong about it only happening when I am on battery power.  It happens regardless if I am on battery or plugged in. Can someone help?

dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Long story.. but want to give complete info. I have two Lenovo laptops.. a T-60 and a X-60 tablet. Both worked fine with the Sprint card and Norton 2007. I made the mistake of accepting Norton's invitation to update to the 2008 version which works fine on my destops and on my laptops with the exception of now I can't get onto the internet using my Sprint card.. I even signed up for a Verizon card.. and that won't work either.. I have all the latest Lenovo drivers for both laptops... I have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled the Sprint and Verizon programs a number of times without any resolution..I have reset the TCP stack usingnetsh int ip reset c:/reset log.txtI have reset the winsock usingnetsh winsock resetI have removed the Norton Internet security 2008 and reinstalled the Sprint or Verizon boradband cards without any resolution of the problem.. getting the ubiquitous PPP 720 error...Anyone else have this problem.. Anyone else been able to fix this problem.. Norton. denies any responsibility for the problem.. However, I installed (regretfully) the Norton 2008 product on both my laptops that worked fine before I did the Norton 2008 upgrade and now I have the same problem on both laptops..Any thoughts on what to do at this point.. .? Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. I tried calling T-mobile, but they said that it was a problem that I needed to contact HP for. I contacted Microsoft that said I need to get in touch with T-mobile. Not all cards are supported and may need to be unlocked, see related threads on this.  May be easier to use a USB GPS device while not using your minutes.

Answer:Mobile Broadband

You would not be able to use your 3 mobile Broadband abroad as difference country uses difference system via their mobile network, you will also need an account with the local broadband supplier Mobile roaming calls worldwide is difference than mobile broadband Most International telephone companies have an agreement between themselves that will allow you to use your local mobile phone on there local network and charge you roaming fees from 80% - 175% above the normal cost some also charge you both ways, for receiving a call or a text message and when you make a call

Question: mobile broadband

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

Did you configure it with the Gobi 3000 card? If you did call Lenovo and they should send you out the missing SIM card. Hit Fn+F5 and check for the Wireless WAN option in there.

OK, I asked a question before and got one response...but not answers. This should be simple.1. I have been using the mobile broadband on my T410 for 3 years. It worked fine.2. I did a major windows update.3. Mobile broadband has gone. There is nothing! COmputer says there is no sim card. (there is a sim card and I reinserted it)4. FN F5 bring up no mobile broadband.5. I am paying my $30/ month and have had nothing for past 4 months!!! its killing me. 6.  It worked once for 3 years. Now it does not work. I tried reinstaling the software and it gets almost rhrough and says "There is no mobile sim card installed in this computer"!! Ugggh!!!!7. Lenovo support is useless. Even tho I only annoyed them one time with a problem in 3 years of service contract, my contract ended a couple months ago....so no help there....I have spoken to a dozen people and none have a clue what to do. Surely someone out there has seen or heard about this? My computer cannot be convinced that mobile broadband should be allowed to work!!   HELP!

Answer:Mobile Broadband....need help - its gone...!

I'm the person who responded before. Could anyone who has mobile broadband and who has kept all the various Microsoft and Lenovo updates current tell us that their WWAN is still working? It seems odd if Wombat and I both had a hardware failure at the same update time, but I suppose it could happen. PS My card is an Ericsson 3507

Answer:S12 Mobile broadband

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost 20 and then 2 a day, 7.50 for a week and 15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. 10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

We currently use a Orange Mobile GC75 data card which connects to the Orange network and then we dial in to our services and the internet. Our systems are advancing greatly and the GC75 card doesnt give a quick enough connection (Is seems like dial up again) so i was wondering if there was a broadband connection that we could use?Another problem is that there isnt a very good Orange signal where we are so was wondering if there was a data card that could be used with a manx card?We are also looking at buying a new laptop so i can get the best possible to match the data card.I may have got myself in a muddle here but basically i just want a mobile broadband connection that can be used everywhere when on the move with the best signal possible to make it more stable. Hi, I've a Lenovo S10-3 to which I've fitted an Ericsson F3607GW wwan card for Lenovo notebooks FRU: 60Y3237.  I bought the card from Hong Kong via Ebay.  I downloaded driver 83W013WW.exe from the Lenovo site and it allows me to connect in areas of 3G coverage. Unfortunately we don't have full 3G coverage in Australia and in my home region there is only a GSM signal and the card will not connect to it, although my old usb plug in modem works fine!  According to the Ericsson data sheet the F3607GW has the full range of frequency bands avilable - so it should work! I see that other drivers and the Ericsson broadband Manager are available and would welcome help in what drivers/broadband managers to use.  I have read on other forums that some other modems require the region to be set to '3' to allow proper working in Australia. I would welcome advice on which drivers/manager etc to use to get the card working properly in Australia. If anyone has experience with the GPS capability of this card I would like to learn how it was done - that's the next step after getting the wireless broadband function to work! Looking forward to some good advice! Rogerf

Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. I inserted my sim into the sim slot under the batery compartment but its not working.  It looks like the drivers are missing. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.
