Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

Question: Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO). The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck. When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...". I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites. So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with). I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release. I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card, and lists the 'driver version' as 5.28.4.0 and the firmware version as R2A07. I have gone to the 'Location and Other Sensors' control panel and confirmed that there is a check mark beside the Mobile Broadband GPS Port. The port assigned there (COM 11) matches the port assigned in the Device Driver list (see photo below). I've browsed through the forum looking for other discussions about GPS problems, and have found a few discussions about problems with other ThinkPads (not W series) where users report that the GPS location feature worked "out of the box", but has not worked after various Microsoft and/or Lenovo updates were applied. I'm really at my wit's end, and can't think of any more troubleshooting strategies - can anyone else offer some suggestions? Michael 'Device Manager' (foreground, bottom) and 'Location and Other Sensors' control panel (background, top)

Preferred Solution: Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

Just a postscript - I have found another discussion from about 18 months ago that mentions similar problems with a W500 and a T500. One of the participants in that discussion suggested that improper assignment of COM ports might be the cause of the problem... but, if that is so, how does one go about re-assigning the two ports used by the GPS? The picture I provided (link is above) shows that my W520 is using COM ports 10 and 11 for the GPS. I have no idea at all how to change this port assignment. Here's the link to the prior discussion: W500 GPS Problem Regards, Michael

Can someone confirm for me that ordering this will get me an Ericsson F3507G?  I have been told from our I.T. purchasing that it will be an Option card and he can get it cheaper and install himself.  I am trying to replicate a previously purchased unit  that is out in the field, for testing. Thanks

Answer:X200 Tablet with Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)

If you are configuring that in the online store, the "Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)  [add $80.00]" will be the F3507G, unless there has been a recent change. Amazing if your IT guy can go through the purchasing cycle, install, and test, for less than that.

I've just received my ThinkPad X230 (which is lovely!) and bought a SIM card from 3 to use with the Ericsson mobile broadband I specified with it. Lenovo Access Connections displays the 3 transmitter and tries to connect, but I haven't been able to get it to work at all. Any ideas? It starts by not being able to find the provider, but changing from 3 3G to 3 GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/3G just results in a failed connection and the error log below. Any ideas? Answer:X230 Ericsson mobile broadband not working with 3 SIM card

Hi dtowsey,

First things first, have you updated your systems drivers and BIOS? I see there is a newer version of BIOS which can be downloaded independently here:  BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7 but if you haven't already, run TVT System Update to ensure all drivers are up to date. Once we are certain the ThinkPad has all the latest updates we can cross that off the list of potential reasons for your inability to connect to the network.

I hope this at least starts you off on the right track!

Ed

Hi Everyone Just get my new T430S for testing purposes , I was replacing the WWAN from my "old" W520 to the new one and get the error that the device its not supported , is there any way to get this fix , if not what's the official way to open a case with lenovo ?, if this is not working I try to send back the T430s. Thx and regards.

Answer:F5521gw Mobile Broadband and T430s

well there is no "official" way of doing this. the 430s has so called whitlisted cards that works. others dont work without modifying the bios. try to find a modded bios that removes the whitelist or like you said.....return it. or just get an approved card.

Dear nchow,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Since lenovo did not test or release the compatible windows 10 drivers for the T420s, My advice to you is to go back to the previous windows and check if the Mobile Broadband will work well or not.

HiAfter upgrading the system the computer does not recognize the WWAN nor the GPS.I've tried to uninstall the the Ericsson wireless module core and download and re-install the latest version of the driver (v1.0.1046.226 ), but the WWAN does not apear in the wireless radio switches (I have only the 802.11 wireless radio switch and the bluetooth switch)the thinkvatage mobile broadband connect  gives an error message "mobile broadband device not found" and so does the thinkvantage GPS utility. Also, I can not find the Ericsson F3507g through the device manager (not in modems and not in network adaptors).I'm almost sure it is not a hardware problem, since it worked fine before.Any ideas?Gilproduct: 7417TNUOS: XP PROAccess connections version 5.33

Hi, I had similar problem with driver: 7uwc46ww. For me it (mostly) went away with driver: 7uv706ww. Please note than I am running Win 7 so the exact driver may not be relevant but the behavior was the one you described so it is probably driver related. The problem seems to be that the card is switched off and then you can not get it on again. Two workarounds that I applied to the earlier driver which you may want to try out.1) Install Ericssons wireless manager which works OK for the built in card even if it is intended for non-built in cards2) Treat the WWAN card as a modem and switch it on with an AT-modem string. Mats

Hi,This  is a problem i have been suffering from with many of my clients (around 190)They all have Lenovo X200 /X200S  with built in mobile broad band which has stopped to work recently due to the latest Vodafone and ATT wireless WAN (HSPA)  Driver. I conntacted the local agent no one has any idea contacted lenovo representative in Norway and they have no IDEA also !!All of them are experts in passing the problem to somone else !!!  All these systems has windows XP pro with all the latest updates available My company is about to launch it's software for W7 and i strongly doubt i can recommend the new X201 as our standard new platform if every now and then the same problem Happens . Before it was BIOS and we had to downgrade to v2,06. Then Wifi adapter where we had to install the driver from intel and  not the one from lenovo and after an access connection update we had to go back to the driver from LENOVO!!! So PLEASE lenovo could someone look at this support reuest and tell us what the heck is wrong with the latest update from you ?? and how to fix it ???   RegardsMaris Support Dept.

The Lenovo community is a peer to peer support forum, not an official Lenovo support channel.

You may get a partial answer here, but given the specific nature of your problem, which appears like it might be tied to some aspect of your local 3G service provision, you will really need local Lenovo resources involved.

Hello!  Recently I installed the latest updates for my computer through the System Update program. Unfortunally it seems like the updater doesn't manage to install all the updates, and that are the drivers for the "Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard PC SC Port". I open it in "device management" (dont't know the translation), and find there are no drivers installed. So is it also for the "Ericsson ... GPS Port/Device Management".  Because of this I can no longer connect to WiFi. I have visited lenovos driver pages, and downloaded the requested driver, including the others needed, and installed them manually. The problems is that Ericcson driver keeps "rolling back" during installation after having paused at 100% (the same happened through System Update). It resets the installation, only leaving the message that it was interrupted.  I have never had this problem before, and I don't see why I suddenly would be without WiFi drivers. However I'm stuck, can't find any previous driver versions to install (nor roll back to an older driver as there is none).  Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks Message Edited by tormhau on 06-18-2009 12:10 PM

I see the sensor F5521gw is enabled. Under ?Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Location and Other Sensors\User Settings? everyone is selected as able to access the sensor. In BIOS every I/0 peripheral is set to ?Enabled?. I have not installed any Lenovo software for the GPS as I don?t see why I would need it. It is enough that the driver is working. PROBLEM: Garmin Mobile PC reports the e36wgps0 on COMP4 as working but cannot find any satellites. I have noticed this problem on 2 X301 Systems. One running XP (SP3') one running Vista (SP2). On both machines the Vodafone Dashboard was used to connect to WAN. At first it worked but afer a while a message saying": "Mobile connection not possible. Ensure that no other programs are using your selected device, and try again in a short while", when trying to connect. On one machine running vista, i could bypass this problem by using the sony ericsonwireless manager. On the XP machine it couldn't find the card (the ericsonwireless manager). The WAN Module is active. Under Modems i can see the F3507g device, which is working normally. Also under Ports I can see 2 COM Ports dedicated to the module (Device Management and GPS Port). Its interesting that i can connect to WAN using the RAS/Dial-up connection. Ipconfig /all shows an external IP and I can surf the net.Are there any known Issues with the Vodafone Dashboard ( I am using latest one Dashboard Version 9.4.3.16284).A driver reinstall didn't help.

Answer:X301 & Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Modem

You can just dump the "dashboard" and connect using Dial Up Networking, those broadband "connection managers" are really QoS managers and can dynamically quash your throughput based on settings updated on connection and broader network policies. Cellular providers drop calls and WWAN connections duirng periods of congestion and WWAN cards suck up more bandwidth than multiple voice users and their QoS habits are illogical most of the time. You should already have an entry for your ISP within DUN and you can google for sites with the specific settings to recreate / experiment with your settings, one particular site is: http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/GPRS_phone_settings_B.htm     (no affiliation)

I recently bough a T420s laptop with a Ericsson F5521gw WWAN card. The GPS function seems to be working, but it is a little bit slow in finding satellites. ThinkVantage GPS program doesn't let me choose any other GPS mode than "standalone". I have checked from F5521gw's data sheet that it supports Assisted GPS (A-GPS) function. Does Lenovo support this function or is there some other possibilites to enable A-GPS?

Answer:A-GPS with Ericsson F5521gw

As far as I know, you need special software to support A-GPS.  The Lenovo software supports stand-alone mode only.  I suppose you can buy other software that uses A-GPS, but I don't know for sure.

After many hours work trying to get this to work after upgrading from Vista, the latest drivers for the card (7uw706.exe) seemed to work okay with a vodafone signal being shown but I was unable to connect. Looking through many web forums, lots of people seem to be having similar problems with these cards in Lenovo machines. I finally discovered that the APN needs to be set for UK operation and now I can connect okay. However, it does not seem to be controllable with "Access Connections" (Blutooth and WiFi adaptors can be controlled okay here) which either shows card is "Disabled" or it is not possible to switch it on. Despite this, the WAN indicator on the front of the PC is always on unless I physically switch all radios off with the front hardware button. Even with this button OFF, a reboot results in the WAN module showing as ON again and it is necessary to physically switch all radios on and off again to extinguish this. Presumably this card is still powered when the indicator is lit which will affect battery life. I believe I am using the latest Access Connections Utility (6gc725ww.exe). Anybody else notice these problems (especially Lenovo Tech people).......?

Hi Lenovo, I tried to browse through the entries of the forum first, but it seems that you have yet failed to respond to the fact, that the build in WWAN card in some of your latest Thinkpad models, the Ericsson F5521gw only negotiates speeds of 7.2mbit despite the facts that the Ericsson card supports 21mbit and that my provider in Denmark (TDC) does support 21mbit HSDPA downloads. My thinkpad is a T420s 4174-P4G. But I am quite sure that it's not related to the specidic model. I can see that X220 users have reported this as well in Sweden on a Telia network that also supports 21mbit. Now if I take out my TDC sim card and put it into a USB-Modem such as the Huawei E372, I instantly get a 21mbit connection to the TDC network. But it's not elegant to use an external USB modem, when you purchased the top-model with a build in WWAN card that states that 21mbit is supported. I find it great pitty, that I have hardware in my super cool Thinkpad T420s that supports 21mbit, but that your driver appearantly blocks the speed to only 7.2mbit. Anybody from Lenovo who care to comment on this ? Thx Other than this I am very happy with my T420. The noisy fan issue is the biggest problem with thos model, but we are dealing with this issue in another thread.

Answer:Ericsson F5521gw 7.2mbit only

dk90103 wrote:

I have been using an F5521gw, in both an T420 and an X220, with two 3G ISPs (one on the 850MHz band and the other on the 900MHz band) in Australlia that support HDPA+ operation and I can achieve raw link speed connections at 21 Mbps with both of them, so whatever your issue is, its not solely with the F5521gw driver.

My assume is the card f5521gw isn't whitelisted in the newest BIOS dispite this card (even with the different p/n or FRU) is listed in the current (!) fru_bom file for the x230. Possibly it was supported in the initial BIOS versios. Currently the half sized card Ericsson h5321gw is listed in the fru_bom file.

Does anyone know if the Ericsson F5521gw would be compatible with an X260 running Windows 10? I've got an X220 which I have been looking to replace (primarily for a higher resolution display). Neither the X260 or X1C are exactly what I want (I like the flexibility having a spare battery but would prefer NMVe if I was spending a lot of money). Therefore I am wondering, as a half-way approach, I could buy the cheapest i7 X260 and swap over my MBB adapter (I only have a 3G data contract) and 1TB Crucial M500 drive. I know I had trouble with the F5521gw on Windows 7 (there were some workarounds) but since Win 8.1 and now Win 10 I've had no problems. TIA!Simon

Hello, a first time Thinkpad user here. I'm having a problem with my new laptop, X220 (model 4290W1B). The specifications are these: i5-2520M, 4GB, X25-M (upgraded), 12.5" HD Premium LED 1366x768, Intel HD 3000, a/g/n WLAN, BT, Sec. Chip, FP, HD-Cam. I also purchased the Ericsson F5211gw module for wireless WWAN / 3g connections. The wireless network part of it is working fine, but the GPS doesn't work. The module was installed by the reseller, so I assume the antennas etc. are installed correctly. I have installed drivers for the card from Lenovo support (and system update) and installed Thinkvantage GPS utility. In device manager I have device "F5521gw Mobile Broadband GPS Port (COM5)" with an exclamation point. Device status box has this information: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". When I try to start the GPS utility it doens't start and gives this error:"The GPS NMEA COM port is not available. You need to check the following things.- Another GPS application is using the COM port.- Com port is disabled. You can enable the COM port in Device Manager" I have no other GPS applications or haven't disabled the COM port. I think there isn't any options about the GPS in BIOS (I have disabled stuff I don't need) I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I also have reinstalled Windows 7 (unrelated reason) but the problem has persisted. Any assistance would be welcomed.

I'd really appreciate if someone could lend me hand with this issue, I'm going a little crazy trying to fix it. The Ericsson F5521gw WAN Module is detected and installed by the OS(Win 10 64bit) and Lenovo hardware scan picks it up but Fn+F5 utility won't switch it on, I can click the button till the cows come home to no avail, the WLAN and BT switches work fine though. I have tried cycling the hardware switch a few times and making sure the WAN module is enabled in the BIOS(it is) but nothing helps. Tried installing all the latest drivers but no luck. The only thing I can think of is I updated from Win 7 64bit to Win 10 64bit, WAN worked perfectly on Win 7, can't remember ever using it successfully in Win 10, I may have though. One thing I have noticed is no matter how many times I switch BT off it switches back on with a reboot. Is there perhaps any manual method or app apart from Fn+F5 to enable the WAN?Has anyone had similar issues after a Win 10 update, if so any fix possible?

HI all,I just bought an X220 with the following specifications:   Lenovo ThinkPad X220 4291 - Core i7 2620M / 2.7 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 320 GB - - HD Graphics 3000 - 3G Mobile Broadband- no service included- Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 - TPM - 12.5" LED TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA ) I made a clean installation, since I switched to an SSD drive, and installed all drivers as suggested by the lenovo update tool.I also installed the wireless WAN drivers available in the lenovo support page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-77280.html My problem is that I'm unable to stablish a WAN connection with the broadband modem. In window's device manager a device named "Ericsson F5521gw" appears as working properly, and a WAN adapter is listed as a network adapter and in the lenovo communication tool. The problem is that if I click "connect" it only lists available wifi networks, and I don't see an option or program to stablish such WAN connection. I am missing something? I notice that the PCI Express Mini Card slot is empty, so I am wondering if the modem is not really included, even if it appears as so in the specifications and it also appears as a working device.  David

Answer:X220 problem with wireless WAN-Ericsson F5521gw

Hi dvallet and welcome to the forum,

Did you turn on the radio for the adapter? Press Fn-F5 (require hotkey feature set) and turn on Wireless WAN radio.
Are you using Lenovo Access Connections? Did the WWAN work before the clean install?

If you never used it before you could download and install the Lenovo broadband connect app and try to activate.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70946

If you find F5521gw in device manager PCI-E adapter is installed in your computer.

Having E320 (1298-3RG) with currently available driver version 6.4.1.6 from 08 Jul 2011 from Lenovo support site there seems to be incomplete mobile operator data for Finland. Specifically, my operator Saunalahti utilizes Elisa network and is actually the part of Elisa company. The problem is the current driver from Lenovo doesn't recognize SIM card automatically and manual setup offers just single possible item in the list for Finland - Elisa. Saunalahti has its own MNC (21, Elisa has MNC 05), and such manually edited connection (replacing with the right AP settings) is detected as roaming, which works but has two major issues: Every time a user has to accept roaming warning dialog before connection is actually made (Saunalahti always been on Elisa network thus the setup is NOT actually roaming)Automatical WLAN-WWAN connection switching doesn't work, probably due to roaming issue with (it just silently fails without roaming dialog).Tried with two Saunalahti SIM cards with the same result, both having unlimited data plan and working fine. BTW Toshiba has newer v.6.5.x.x drivers according to http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/.Could someone provide the hints how to fix these issues, maybe editing the driver configuration file(s) or has a link to the latest F5521gw driver that will work in pair with Lenovo Access Connections, thanks!

I have a X220 Tablet with the Ericsson F5521gw WWAN? option. It seems to connect just fine, however after 30 mins - 3 hrs, it always disconnects from the mobile network. A red cross appears in Access Connections, and the Windows 7 network icon shows that it is "connected" but there is "no internet access". It is impossible to reconnect using either Access Connections or the Windows tool. If I try, it gives me an error about not being able to find the network. If I try Fn + F5, I sometimes can turn the WWAN off but not back on, and sometimes I cannot even turn it off. None of this helps me reconnect. The only way to be able to reconnect is to shutdown + turn back on / restart / sleep + wake. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the mobile network makes a difference. Using the "3" network (which I'm on a contract for), it disconnects after 30mins - 3 hrs. However, if I swap the SIM card to a Telstra network prepay card, it can hold the connection much more reliably. I've only noticed that it dropped the connection once after about 3 hrs. On subsequent testing, leaving the computer on overnight etc, it seems to stay connected to Telstra. I've tried the following trouble shooting steps without any success:- I verified the correct orientation of the SIM card on these forums- I've uninstalled access connections / used earlier versions of the Ericsson driver- I've reimaged the computer using the Lenovo factory install DVDs- I've asked "3" for a new SIM card to... Greetings:Does it make sense to get the Integrated ____ (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) Mobile Broadband add on or is it more economical to get a USB or express card later on?Does integrated mean built in as it relates to this issue?Thank you.

Peter M. AbrahamDynamic Net, Inc.

Answer:What is the value of the Integrated Mobile Broadband add on?

The value is for people whom knows definitely that they are going to use mobile broadbands, in addition the reception using the integrated system would be better than the external usb plugins (most of them anyway), if you only occasionally use mobile broadband then some people would suggest an external one. It really depends whether you are a road warrior that need constant mobile internet access.

Oh no, didn't I write my WWAN-Card works cleanly after the lenovo support repaired it in my previous post?! After a long time (3-5 month) of not using it it has a strange behaviour now I cannot find out the reason for: After connecting to my broadband carrier of choice (Vodafone) the connection get disconnected after ~3 min. because the WWAN-Card (Ericsson F5521gw) becomes disabled state. But why? I could not find out a feature/setting to explain this behaviour. Sure, I installed several lenovo updates since the time the WWAN-Card worked properly and the state I got now. My dial up settings didn't change: General/Phone number:Phone number: *99# Options/Redial Options:Redial attempts: 3Time between redial attempts: 1 MinuteIdle time before hanging up: NeverIdle threshold: <disabled>Redial if line is dropped: true I don't think it's up to the dial up settings as the WWAN-Card becomes disabled after ~3min. of connection.Driver Version: 5.28.4.0 When I turn it on again by Fn-F5 it connects immediately but just till it becomes disabled again after those ~3 min. I searched the forum already but I could not find similar problems yet.UPDATE: I found a similar entry in the forum here:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Wireless-WAN-adapter-keeps-turnig-off-F... Any hints? Cheerskyoshiro

Answer:WWAN-Card (Ericsson F5521gw) disconnects after ~3min.

I got it! I reinstalled the former Mobile Broadband Drivers (Version 6.4.1.6) and everything is running fine now.  In Device Manager the modem is still listed with Driver Version: 5.28.4.0. But this seems to be okay.

Hello,Ordered a laptop with this option. & have inserted a SIM card I used in my "old Sony laptop that I used for WWAN.What else is needed to connect? Thanks

Answer:What does " Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable" mean?

Hi rookie66, welcome to the forums,

it means that everything you need for broadband, WWAN, is present except the all important module which actually makes it all work.  The module can be purchased separately, or, on some systems the slot where it sits can be used for a solid state drive instead.

As you probably want to use WWAN, if you post which system you have members will be able to inform you exactly what you need to realise it.

Hello, I have a user with an X220, running Windows 7 SP1 (x64) with Access Connections 5.84, utilising the Ericsson F5521GW WWAN card. The user is experiencing random disconnects when using the 3G and as this is a remote user, he heavily relies on this service. We have had our supplier send the user a new SIM card, in case that was faulty but this has not resolved the issue. The obvious next step would be to replace the WWAN card but again, he is a remote user and would need to come in to head office or send it in, which will not be ideal. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and if so, how it was resolved. Kind RegardsBarry J. There is long discussion about that http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-3G-mobile-broadband-problem-with-F5521gw/... In short: the F5521gw module is buggy, Lenovo does not care, Ericsson no longer supports these modules. The only known solution is to replace it with Sierra Wireless (Gobi 3000) one.

Hi Im using Swedish Telenor for mobile services and have experienced stable mobile internet access with fully working VPN and outlook connectivity for years - using T63p, T510 and now T520. WLAN and Ethernet cable working fine with outlook. When on mobile internet, I have good internet access and VPN works fine, but the outlook-exchange communication doesnt work. I tried for a couple of days with another external modem (USB-connected) and everything was working well. I have installed all necessary software using Lenovo System Update. I have tried uninstalling drivers for the Ericsson modem and starting from scratch with fresh drivers from Lenovo. Nothing helps. I just got the T510 replaced becuase of other problems with high frequent sound and blue screen of death and othe peculiar behaviour - and now this. Any ideas?

Answer:Outlook-Exchange connection unstable on T520 with Ericsson F5521gw WWAN

Hi. We have the same situation. All our Lenovo T420s and X220 laptops with Ericsson F5521gw and vpn-client doesn't work ok with Outlook. They can receive mails ok, but sending mails just hang them in Outlook's outgoing folder. Only one mail manages to be send when vpn- and outlook connection has just been established, other outgoing mails may be hanging for tens of minutes and get delivered randomly one by one. Netstat -a shows that laptops connection to Exchange server's epmap port (rpc135) goes to time_wait state and in the same time pinging Exchange server replies ok. Ericsson driver is ver 6.5.1.5 and firmware R3B01. We have tested also with older Ericsson drivers and firmware. No luck. We have tested to same "F5521gw" laptops with several different usb hsdpa dongles, with wlan cards and lan cards and also with other Lenovo laptops which have built-in Qualcomm Gobi and Ericsson F3507g hsdpa-modules. With all other network connections Outlook works fine, only Ericsson F5521gw is causing us gray hair. We would really appreciate if someone has any clue how to solve this problem.  btw. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and our hsdpa service provider is Finish Elisa.

I just received my new T500 laptop with integrated AT&T mobile broadband card.  There are no instructions (i.e. printed material, installation CDs, or on-screen messages) on how to activate this feature.  I currently use the AT&T service on my T61 laptop using a broadband modem card plugged in to the side of the computer.  This laptop came with an integrated Verizon mobile broadband card and every single time I boot up a message comes up asking if I want to activate / subscribe to the Verizon service.  No such message (for AT&T) comes up on my new T500. Can anyone provide me with step-by-step instuctions on how to get set up and going?  Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another? Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:How do I Activate (Integrated) AT&T Mobile Broadband Card on T500?

"Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another?" Just move the activated SIM card.  I have one activated SIM card that I move between a T60 and a T61 as required. Both of these machines have internal integrated Sierra cards, though. Have to remove the batteries while moving the SIM card. As far as activating service on your new T500, you should be able to do that by calling AT&T Wireless. Two people in previous threads on this forum have gone that route. Centex

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

I'm thinking about purchasing the above 3G card (either for Lenovo X220 or L520) but haven't been able to find out whether it supports fully automatic connecting or not. That is, I would not want to use any "connection app" and click Connect etc. each time the laptop is booted, but instead just boot up the laptop and start surfing (using 3G/WWAN). Is that possible with the above card and Lenovo-provided drivers/software?

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.

The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.

Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.

Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Everything else works fine with the W530. I've owned ThinkPads exclusively since the first one ever came out. I've never not been able to connect to mobil... Read more

welcome to the community. if you have a wwan card, it will be under the keyboard palmrest. many systems are sold as wwan-ready, but that usually only means that the sim card slot is installed and the wwan anttenae are installed. a mobile broadband card (wwan) is typically an option added during purchase configuration. looks like you need a card. hth.

Upgraded my Helix to Windows 10, clean install.  I noticed that my AT&T mobile broadband (Sierra wireless EM7700 4G LTE) isn't working. I keep getting a connection error and it asks me to enter another APN. I've instaled system update and all of the Lenovo drivers etc.  I've added the AT&T APN settings.  The signal meter in the connection manager is a little wonky also.  I changed the Selective Suspend value to disabled.  Windows thinks that the default microsoft driver is the best choice.  The Sierra Wireless Mobile Broadband Update app says I'm up to date with drivers and firmware. Can anyone confirm that their Helix (gen 1) mobile broadband is working with Windows 10? Thanks

Hi all, I have problem with my Thinkpad l430 and Ericsson h5321gw mobile broadband with windows 7. It has been working just fine for months, but now couple of days ago it stopped working and says that there is no sim card present. The sim card is there, and works fine on other devices. I tried to uninstall all the h5321gw devices and drivers in device manager, and installed new drivers from lenovo's system update. No help. It still says that sim card is not found. In device manager there are two problems, in usb devices there is an unknown device which says the device is stopped, because of error (code 43), and in smart card devices there is H5321 gw Mobile Broadband USIM port, which says that there are no drivers installed, although the driver tab says that there is driver 6.0.0.8 by Ericsson, and windows doesn't find any better drivers. Any suggestions for help?  Edit: The unknown device problem is solved. I unplugged power cord and took the battery off, and it fixed it. Just rebooting the machine wasn't enough for it. It appeared to be usb composite device, and it's now working correctly. The other problem is still there and the sim card is not found.

Answer:L430 mobile broadband stopped working

Now it's getting weird. This morning when I opened the computer it found the sim card. After five days of not doing so. Then when back at home and trying again no sim card found again since. It found it just that one time.To test that if it's hardware or software related I installed windows 8 which media came with the computer and did the system update for it. The mobile broadband works fine with it. And with windows 7 it doesn't.

Here's an odd thing.
After switching off my Dell Dimension 5150 and then switching off the power at the mains, which I do when I go away for long periods, it then won't restart until I remove the mobile broadband dongle. I get the flashing amber signal on the power button. However, as soon as I remove the dongle, then the PC starts up fine, or at least it has done so far, so it's not really a problem, but it would be interesting and probably quite wise to find out why this is happening.

I did recently remove the case to replace the CMOS battery as I was getting the low battery message on start-up, but, apart from that, I can't recollect doing anything that may have caused this.

I run Windows 7 64bit os with an Orange high Speed (!) mobile broadband dongle (515m).
The software (Internet Everywhere) stopped working months ago and after much arguing with Orange, they admitted that it was a software compatibility problem with my os but promised that an update would be coming soon. They gave a workaround which meant the dongle worked on dial up (with associated speed).
However, after waiting months for the update, it's finally arrived but it still doesn't work!
Just like the last software version, after installing it clean, it crashes at start up and won't operate.
Last night I had to stay up hours to roll back my system to get the dial up working again as it prevented that from working too.
I'm really sick of this and Orange's response has been woefully unsatisfactory, bordering on insulting. The latest gem was to uninstall everything internet connected then download the software! How? This has been pretty much the level of response from Orange. I'm about ready to cancel my contract with them for breach of contract.
Any ideas anyone?

Oh, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 7540.

Answer:Orange Mobile Broadband 515m Dongle not working with Windows 7

Hi, not sure if this is what you meant by the workaround, but I had the same problem and solved it by manually configuring a dial-up connection with windows using the number *99#
The software started crashing whenever I started it and, much like Orange have now pointed out, I suspected it was some sort of conflict with Windows 7. Initially the only way I had to get round it was constant system restores whenever the problem started, but that wasn't practical. The manual dial-up seems the best way I have found so far. The speed and service using it this way appears to be the same if not better than when using it with the software.

OEM I think
Hardware age: 2007
Age of installation: not sure, its my friends. Might not have been reinstalled before

Video Card: Onboard Graphics
Mobo: Inspiron 532 mobo

It works perfectly fine, apart from when I connect to the internet through 3 mobile broadband (3 Huawei E122). Once it connects, internet explorer launches. As soon as I begin using IE, the computer freezes, mouse will not move, keyboard will not work, then after 2 mins it blue screens. stop code is 0x77. I have tried to exit IE and use firefox instead, this works much better but it still bluescreens, just less frequently.

My friend brought it to a local shop who told him the usb header on the mobo is the problem and needs a new mobo and qouted him ?250 repair. However I dont think this is the problem as, no other usb device gives any trouble at all. And the mobile brodband dongle only crashes once it connects and the browser is launched.

I ran Norton antivirus, super anti spyware, malwarebytes antimalware, and RU Botted. All I picked up was a few malwares.

I also ran full system diagnostic test, with no problems.

Hello All,

As we are all aware by now that we did not receive what we thought we were purchasing (GOBI) as far as mobile access is concerned (not to mention being told that the memory and SSD were upgradeable at time of purchase - before the month+ delays)...

Does anyone know EXACTLY what provider will work with the X1 Carbon's H5321gw PCIe card? I have read on various boards that AT&T is the only provider - but I find it hard to believe that Lenovo would limit this - given the current quality/service issues.

Any ideas? THANKS!

I've tried the software that came with the phone, no joy. A sim reader just reads the saved messages which appear to be the only ones on the sim and it'll only take 20 messages.

It cannot be impossible. If it's easier, how about simply saving my messages to the 1GB memory stick?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Access Connections says "A wireless WAN client utility is managing the WAN connection.  Close the utility and try again later." Mobile Broadband Connect says it "failed to intialize". This is similar to another thread issue but apparently not exactly the same.  What should I do? Thanks!

Hi Everybody!!Finally I purchased the Lenovo w500 notebook and I'm really happy with this product.I have one question about using the Ericsson f3507g Broadband mini Card to connect to a 3G network outside United states. The notebook i have purchased came with the AT&T broadband.Of course I cant use it because I'm outside united states. So, I would like to use it with my 3g internet connection.I've tried to set up the connection but I had no success.I can only connet throught GPRS/EDGE but not to the 3g network using my SIM card.I have read a lot of information over internet but it is not clear. As I told, I can connect to edge using Access Connection but not to 3g despite the signal strenght is very good.I also tried to set up a dial uo connection and connect directly without using access connection, but I had no success. The dial up connection try to connect but it is not possible. Can someone help me about this issue?I don't know what else to do!Thank you in advance!Marcelo

Answer:Ericsson f3507g Broadband mini Card on w500

Depending on your provider, you might have something that is 3g, but in your area doesn't support it. For example, when I'm on holiday in Finland, Finland has 3g providers, but where I'm located "at the cottage at the lake" I'm connected to a mast that only supports GPRS/edge. The area is not very populated, thus they haven't upgraded that mast yet, they start with dense populated area-masts and work their way down, or maybe they just decided that the traffic on this mast is enough for it to be updated etc. Here at home in Denmark, I have 3g connection because my everyday home is located in a populated area, and my local mast does in fact support 3g. Anyway, try searching for a coverage map from your provider, maybe your local mast isn't able to give you 3g connections at all.Message Edited by OrosAraba on 26-03-2009 09:07 AM

I've just puchased a thinkpad w520 with Lenvo USA and the integrated camera / webcam is not recognized on the computer, skype, msn, or yahoo msg. I've tried check for webcam enabler in the bios & it's not available. I've tried download the driver again & still not detected. My conclusion is that the webcam is faulty or the connection is faulty. Also I m currently working overseas and commute to bangkok, thailand the next 3 months.  Can I have service with Lenovo thailand to fix this webcam? Will Lenovo thailand honor the current warranty? Thanks

When I'm running the W520 on Integrated Mode, My external monitor detects no VGA. It works only on Optimus or Discrete. I use Integrated Mode to maximize battery life. Windows 8.1 64-bitIntel(R) HD Graphics 3000 1/29/2014 9.17.10.3347
