Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Question: Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

Hi all,I've just got a new T410s notebook. It's very good, but unfortunately it doesn't include the built-in mobile broadband.I've tryed to install the Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband which I took away from my old X200, but it seems that the T410s doesn't recognize it! I've no error, no warning messages, but any new device appears (I've also tryed to install every drivers)I would like to know if Ericsson F3507g is a compatible device or if I am forced to buy the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband, so as defined in the shop.lenovo web site.Thank you all in advance,Valerio

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

Answer:T500 and GOBI 2000 Broadband

Hi pawj68, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Hmmm... the T500 Hardware Maintenance Manual doesn't list the newer GOBI 2000... just the Ericsson F3507g and Qualcomm UNDP1 (GOBI 1000).  Either of those will work.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

Hi I hope someone could assist.  I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller.  The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work.  The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader              - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card  I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution?   Thanks much!

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

But what could it be, it kind of slows down the booting process and its bugging me.

Could it be from the bios, windows 10 or something else?

I had replaced by HDD on Alienware 15 R2 by Samsung 850 EVO and had MBR on that which was pointing to windows BOOT Samsung 951 NVME with SATA operation set to RAID. Everything worked perfectly. But this week I purchased Samsung 960 EVO and put it in place of Samsung 951 which had PCEI x4 interface and shifted 951 to vacant slot with x2 interface. Everything again worked fine.
But though I was getting recommended sequencial speeds 3100 MB/S and 1900 MB/S, IOPs were very low at about 120000. So I changed to safe mode in both Windows installations and changed SATA operation to AHCI and boot again. Thereafter problem started. Though boot order was 960 EVO and 951 NVME, it would show message of Checking media presence F1 to Reboot and F2 for Setup. If you press F1 it would go to 951 and not  960 EVO. But if your restart it would show dual boot options and allow to select 960 EVO as default option. If you select windows on 960 partition it would boot correctly and I would get 380000 IOPS. Secondly Samsung Magician could recognise hard disk and I could install Samsung NVME Driver which increased speed to 390000 IOPS.
So I boot from Windows 10 usb and selected repair option. First I corrected MBR with bootrec command. The problem did not solve. So I corrected UEFI.with bcdboot pointing to Windows installations on 960 EVO. Now I have funny problem. Whenever I power on my notebook it goes directly to 960 installation in few seconds (with secure UEFI boot option). But if I restart ... Read more

Hello mate, It's not because you have a sim card reader that you have a modem installed inside. If your laptop is wwan ready, it comes with the sim card reader and the antenna installed and that's it.If you can't see the wwan modem in the Fn+F5 menu it's most likely because you don't have a modem. Have a look there to see if you have a wwan modem or not : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/configuration/configuration.html

I recently purchased a Thinkpad X200 Tablet computer (model 7449-44U) using Windows 7 and would like to upgrade it with an internal WWAN card for use with Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband (in the USA).  I am not very knowlegeable about WWAN and need some technical assistance in making sure I order the correct WWAN modules. I am interested in the new Qualcomm-Gobi 1000/2000 mini card modules that are reported to include standalone GPS capability as well as supporting a wide range of RF bands for global connectivity.  Please refer to the attached product sheets for more info on Gobi 1000 and Gobi 2000 modules.http://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi1000_overview.pdfhttp://www.gobianywhere.com/files/gobi2000_overview.pdf I have contacted Lenovo sales and technical support and was told only WWAN card that is compatible with both my X200 Tablet and Verizon Wireless is P/N 57Y4485.  see attached verizon data sheet.http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?... This data sheet has no information about any GPS capabilities. Is this a different WWAN card from the Gobi 1000 or 2000?  I would like to have GPS capability with the WWAN (useful for my work as well as traveling)If you go to Lenovo's website for X200 Tablets, you can custom order a new X200 with the Gobi 1000 chipset configured for Verizon Wireless but I believe this card is not P/N 57Y4485.  Please help m... This might seem pretty obvious but do I need to buy an integrated card for the SIM card to be read? (I didnt choose the "Integrated Mobile Broadband (Ericsson F5521gw)" option when buying the laptop) I've got the SIM card inserted under the battery (it's "clicked" into place) but my Orange 3G USB dongle says it can't see the SIM. Any ideas? Thanks,Andrew

Answer:W50 - Mobile Broadband - SIM card?

hey andrewjknox, shouldn't the simcard be in the dongle ? although there is a slot under the battery to insert the sim, the sim will not be detected as there is no device (the intergrated mobile) to detect it.

Access Connections 6.25.65 GIC765WWWindows 7 64 BitAfter 2 years using access connections without problems, suddenly my SIM card is classified as not activated.Activation via the Toolbox queries the PIN. But after a restart, the SIM Card is be displayed again as not activated. In the Windows Network and Sharing Center the standard Wi-Fi can be disconnected and the mobile broadband can be connected.Uninstall and reinstall of the Access Connections software does not change the situation. Access conections is pretty nice. Answer:Mobile Broadband: SIM card not activated

Hi and welcome, sunfishFirstly, let's try to split issues and possible sources.1. Activation app in the Lenovo Toolbox is for the simless networks like Verizon, AT&T only. It's for the device activation (modem, phone...) within their network, not for the sim card2. Please, confirm or clarify my assumption:- AC has wwan connection profile for your mobile broadband operator- is it predefined profile or you made it yourself?- did you check out profile settings, mainly, APN? Any chance operator has changed this setting, at least, for your sim card tariff? 3. You are able to establish mobile broadband connection via the system connection manager. Compare APN settings in the system profile with one in the AC

Hey all. Been a while since i posted on here. Joined the Marine Corps about 5 months ago. I bought a full upp'ed Alienware laptop, and now that im here in Virginia, and will be here on the East Coast for a while, im looking to get a mobile broadband card.

Im looking at some reviews, but not sure which is considered the best, especially for gaming. I know my games will suffer, but whats the best for gaming and dl'ing.

Im thinking of getting Novatel Wireless USB727 USB Modem for Verizon. Anyone know how much it is monthly?

Answer:Best Mobile Broadband Card for Laptop?

Gaming wont suffer, unless you are in a non-evdo area. I have a mobile broadband card from sprint, and download speeds can peak at 200kb/s. The plans are $49.99 a month for unlimited bandwidth.

Get a pci-express one, since it wont stick out as much from the laptop.

Hello, I'm in Europe. My X220 has a SIM slot and is "mobile broadband ready". Question is, does it have a 3G modem built-in? Or does "mobile broadband ready" mean something less than that? I have put in the internet broadband SIM into the laptop (was not sure about orientation of SIM), and cannot select "mobile broadband" option in Lenovo's Access Connections screen, in the ThinkVantage Toolbox. Thanks!Eoin

Im pretty sure that card isn't whitelisted for the T420sFirst of I think it needs to be an official Lenovo part and secondly I think only the F5521gw is whitelisted on T420s - I could be wrong though, I'm sure someone else will chime in though and correct me.

I use a laptop computer that was issued to me by the company I work for. They provided me with an Embarq mobile broadband air card to get high speed internet. Once connected to the air card, I access Outlook to get my business emails and do work related research on the internet using internet explorer. However, I also use the same computer to retrieve my personal emails by going to Internet Explorer then aol mail. I also visit several baseball websites using the company laptop. (My son is a minor league player.)

I know that if my IT department wanted to see what I've been doing on their laptop, they can request it, do a forensic search and see where I've been.

However, can the IT department see where I go on the internet, get my aol email password, etc. from the server at the office without me knowing it, when I use a mobile broadband air card?

PS: I don't go to any bad sites. And, this was not written on the company laptop.

I just received my new T500 laptop with integrated AT&T mobile broadband card.  There are no instructions (i.e. printed material, installation CDs, or on-screen messages) on how to activate this feature.  I currently use the AT&T service on my T61 laptop using a broadband modem card plugged in to the side of the computer.  This laptop came with an integrated Verizon mobile broadband card and every single time I boot up a message comes up asking if I want to activate / subscribe to the Verizon service.  No such message (for AT&T) comes up on my new T500. Can anyone provide me with step-by-step instuctions on how to get set up and going?  Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another? Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:How do I Activate (Integrated) AT&T Mobile Broadband Card on T500?

"Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another?" Just move the activated SIM card.  I have one activated SIM card that I move between a T60 and a T61 as required. Both of these machines have internal integrated Sierra cards, though. Have to remove the batteries while moving the SIM card. As far as activating service on your new T500, you should be able to do that by calling AT&T Wireless. Two people in previous threads on this forum have gone that route. Centex

So, I bought the broadband extension card on the e-bay (Ericsson N5321gw). I've installed the hardware (extension card was inserted, red and blue cables were connected) and drivers/software from Lenovo website. I've put SIM card to the reader and if iI try to turn it on... there is an information "SIM card is not present... bla bla bla". Hi, mauroreggio

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, you should be able to see the listed network adapters in the computer. Can you post what these adapters are or take a screenshot of them? If a mobile broadband card is installed in your machine, it should show up there.

Best,

I've just received my ThinkPad X230 (which is lovely!) and bought a SIM card from 3 to use with the Ericsson mobile broadband I specified with it. Lenovo Access Connections displays the 3 transmitter and tries to connect, but I haven't been able to get it to work at all. Any ideas? It starts by not being able to find the provider, but changing from 3 3G to 3 GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/3G just results in a failed connection and the error log below. Any ideas? Answer:X230 Ericsson mobile broadband not working with 3 SIM card

Hi dtowsey,

First things first, have you updated your systems drivers and BIOS? I see there is a newer version of BIOS which can be downloaded independently here:  BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7 but if you haven't already, run TVT System Update to ensure all drivers are up to date. Once we are certain the ThinkPad has all the latest updates we can cross that off the list of potential reasons for your inability to connect to the network.

I hope this at least starts you off on the right track!

Ed

I have F3507g Ericsson 3G card in my SL300.It was quite difficult to configue it, but finally I got it: I'm using it with Access Connections now, Mobile Broadband tab, Vodafone SIM-card inside. My internet connection is through a Sprint Sierra Wireless Aircard 595U USB connection. Supposedly the card can be plugged into the router and each computer in the network will then be hooked to the internet. Unfortunately few routers (including mine) have a USB connection. So I have to plug the card into one of the three computers on my network, switching the card as needed. Someone published a solution to the problem and is a follows:

“Few routers that I'm aware of accept the AirCard 595U's USB connection. And only one that I'm aware of, the CradlePoint CTR350,
explicitly supports the 595U. I just got a 595U and Sprint Mobile Broadband and had the same issue of setting up a wireless home network using it. I solve the problem using Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Here are the steps I took:

1. Set up the 595U as normal, plugged into a USB port on your PC.
2. In Network Connections (assuming you're using Windows), right click on the dial-up listing for "Sprint Mobile Broadband - Sierra Wireless," and choose "Properties."
3. Click on "Advanced" tab and check the first box under "Internet Connection Sharing" to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
4. Choose "Local Area Connection" from the "Home Networking Connection" pull-down.

I opened up a new T520 laptop.  I then installed a Sierra Wireless MC5720 (mobile broadband card) which I removed from an IBM T60 laptop, thinking it would work.  However, upon bootup, the T520 reports"1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (1199/0218)" and the system halts.  To try and work around this, I?ve jumped through a myriad of hoops including updating the BIOS, updating ThinkVantage Access Connections, and contacting support.  Support was so poor that they advised that the specs for this laptop  shows that it doesn?t even support a cellular data card; clearly it must as there is an available slot under the keyboard with 2 antenna wires ? a blue & a red.  I also attempted to run the "no-1802" bootable CD in effort to trick the BIOS into accepting the MC5720 but that did not work either. My vendor advised that his Lenovo team said simply that the MC5720 isn't compatible with the T520 and that I will have to purchase a GOBI Mobile Broadband card PN 0A36185 model MC8355 which costs around $120.  My question is this:  Does anyone know if there is a way to trick the T520 into accepting the MC5720 mobile broadband card?  It just seems wrong that the MC5720 is blocked in the BIOS. Thank you.

Answer:T520 - How To Trick BIOS To Allow MC5720 (Internal Mobile Broadband Card)

Have a read here : http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card Although that gives you background on how they got round it until now, I'm guessing the T520 is too new for any of those procedures. Also and proceed with EXTREME caution here : http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T520-whitelist-removal-request camiloml - who is quite known for patching bioses has done so for a T520 and the guy says it works fine barring some beeping at the start. If you brick your laptop for following either of those links, don't blame me. I'm just giving you information.

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. Good evening everyone.

I hope the title of my post is not misleading.

I have a problem.

I offered to try to fix my supervisor's daughter's laptop. She has a Toshiba Satelite with a Pentium i3 and Windows 8. Her boyfriend tried to load a some sort of flash player so he could play a game on her computer and that's when the problems started.

When I turn it on, I get the above message "Checking media presence, no media present". To me either that means the BIOS is not reading the hard drive (I tried looking through the configurations already) or that somehow, her boyfriend found a way to wipe the hard drive. But I want to be sure.

I have a copy of Windows 8 (hers didn't come with a disc) but since I cannot get into the system, I cannot open the optical drive (it's motorized, and I don't want to break it).

I have Windows 10 on both of my computers. So here are my questions:

Has anyone else had this problem, and could you tell me how to fix it (maybe you might tell me something that I haven't tried)

How do I make a recovery disk on a USB flash drive. I have Windows 10 on my computer, but I have my Windows 8 disks.

(Longshot) Is there a way to make the system open the optical drive without being able to get into the system.

Any help is welcome!

Thanks!

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? Brand new laptop, working SIM card, Wireless Broadband connectivity is no functional !!!!!!!!

I have an issue with the Qualcom GOBI broadband option for Verizon.  I can connect fine, but my machine will power off the wireless LAN radio after a few minutes (not consistant time period.  It appears that this happens only when I am on battery power, which leads me to believe it is a power saving issue.  I think I have changed all of the appropriate powersaving settings and even turned of the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" in device manager, and it still persists. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64, the latest verizon access manager, and have mad sure all lenovo/qualcomm drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

Answer:x301 3G problem - Qualcom GOBI broadband option

Update:  Still having this problem, except I was wrong about it only happening when I am on battery power.  It happens regardless if I am on battery or plugged in. Can someone help?

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Hi, Anybody have a chance to activate the Gobi 2000 with Sprint, I read somewhere it is possible but no instruction. I can only see AT&T and Verizon for my options. Thanks

Answer:W510 with Gobi 2000

I'm having the exact same problem activating the GOBI 2000 with Sprint.  I'm running Win 7 x64.  The drivers from Lenovo are installed as well as Sprint Smartview for "embedded devices".  I've given sprint the MEID number from tools -> mobile info within smartview and I'm having no luck.  The accepted the number but still no go.  I found on the sprint site where to user the PRL_Upload utility for GOBI 1000 and 2000 devices but it just immediately fails when trying to connect to the device.  Have you had any luck with this??  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... I just placed an order a T410 with Mobile Broadband Gobi 2000 GPS 3G.I selected Open SIM card for Verizon May I ask if this card support GSM (e.g. able to use GPRS, EDGE and 3G)? Is it unlock and could be use with any GSM carriers around the globe? (I am frequent traveller and have to switch the mobile number quite often) Thanks for the information, I appreciated!James [Update]: I just called the Technical support to ask about this and the technician told me that, I cannot use other SIM card than Verizon one. This means I have to stick with Verizon Open SIM forever???? Is it true???

Answer:Gobi 2000 GPS 3G is unlocked and is GSM?

well...the answer to both of your questions is YES.Verizon tech support (and it's NOT the first time i encounter it...) knows nothing regarding the Gobi.

For the past week my Verizon connection won't disconnect.  If you click disconnect in the Windows control panel and in VZ access manager it does not complete the process and stays connected.  No error, just doesn't disconnect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the driver and VZ Access Manager.  No change. Interesting, I uninstalled the Lenovo driver and VZ Access Manager.  Then I installed the Lenovo driver.  As soon as the Lenovo driver was installed Verizon was connected and I cannot disconnect. In Windows, under properties, I have selected "Do not automatically connect" and in VZ Access Manager I have selected "NDIS - Manually connect".  Does not have an impact.   It's like the connect switch is forced on and I don't know why.  I am out of ideas and need some of yours.  This is an X201 with Windows 7 and the latest drivers and VZAM version.  It's a domain machine too.   Thoughts? Thanks! So I got a SSD for my T410 and thought what the hell lets go for Windows 8. All is sweet apart from my Gobi 2000 mobile broadband. I found some beta Windows 8 drivers and after learning Access Connections is not supported on Windows 8, I downloaded and installed the Dependency Package. I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Lisa

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

I was just wondering if this is normal. Even when I have Gobi 2000 turned off in Windows, if I turn off my comp and then turn it back on, the led light indicator for the gobi card broadband lights on until I log into Windows.Where the bluetooth light and WLAN turns on for a brief moment during the BIOS screen, but then turns off the moment after (while the WWAN light stays on still). Is this normal? Or is there a setting I can tweak, since I added the gobi card after I bought my x201T. It wasn't factory preinstalled.

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying an X120e when I visit the US next month (for some strange reason they're not selling it in Europe at all). I'm interested in the mobile broadband modem option, but $125 is too much for me to pay at this moment, and I'm not sure whether it'll be locked to US networks. I would therefore like to buy the Gobi 2000 or 3000 later on from eBay and use it in the laptop. Would this work fine on O2 or Three UK, or would I run into some odd issues?

Answer:Gobi 2000 modem with X120e

Helo,

I do not know if it will work, but when you look for a replacement 3G modem, make sure it has the Lenovo/IBM part number on that is listed in your X120e's Hardware Maintenance Manual as a generic OEM one might not work with the X120e.

Hi, I have a T410 which is a solid PC.  0 issues.... Until I switch on the Gobi 2000 card and connect.  A which point, after a random duration ( 3 mins - 30 mins ), will cause the PC to lockup. By lockup I mean the mouse freezes, everythin stops responding.  Display remains continuous, no BSOD etc. Only a hard power button reset will turn the PC off and then on again. The latest drivers posted are installed. Does anyone else have this, or have a suggestion?  Thanks

Answer:T410 Gobi 2000 PC lockup

A couple things to try.

1) re-seat the Gobi card
2) uninstall and reinstall the drivers
3) What connection manager are you using? Access Connections, or a carrier connection manager or Win7 CM? Does the hang only happen with a specific connection manager?

Hi I have just got a T420 (Win 7 64bit) which did not have a 3g module. I took the gobi 2000 out of my t410i and put it in this machine. I have installed the driver for the t410 and it installs perfectly, although it does not list the T420 as a compatible machine.  I can create the dialup with the gobi modem but I keep getting an error 619 and it will not connect. I have tried installing access connections and connecting via mobile broadband but still no luck. If I go to in access connection to advanced, tools, mobile broadband (which is now no longer greyed out) I can see existing SMSs on the sim card but send or receive new SMS so it seems the card is not registered on the mobile network. If I press FN+F5, WWAN  is not listed so I can?t turn it on. Any ideas?

2 questions about the Gobi 2000 3G w/GPS module available as an option for X201T:  Is it mounted inside the computer, or is it an extension card occupying an ExpressCard slot? Also, when I select Gobi 2000 in the configurator on the Lenovo UK website, there appears a non-optional element "Open SIM Card: WW". So I wonder, what does "WW" mean?

Answer:Gobi 2000 3G module questions

Hi Axure!

Yes the Gobi 2000 is inside the X201T. You'll find it in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

"Open SIM Card: WW" means that there is no country/carrier-specific SIM card included (WW=WorldWide).

Hope this helps!

Just installed the Gobi 2000 WWAN (ATT) into a new x100e. It is running Win7 Pro/ 64 Bits.. I installed the latest Access Connections, latest x100e Bios, and Gobi WWAN Driversfrom the Lenovo product support site- but the adapter is failing on startup. Access connections begins to connect but then gives a red x by"Powering on adapter" When I use the FN+F5 hotkey to check it - I am unable to power on the adaptermanually (WLAN powers on/off perfectly) What could be causing this problem? thanks,-bill

Answer:x100e Win7 64 Bit with GOBI 2000

OK -Just installed the latest BIOS, and all the recent power management updates. The WWAN radio finally powers on- and I noticed the presentation of the FN-F5menu has been changed with a "Master Control" switch-which must be enabled before powering on the individual radios. So it must have been some sort of power management/ x100e BIOS/ Gobi WWAN driver issue. So far so good- but I am going to keep testing some more... -bill

My new Gobi 2000 WWAN PCI-Card arrived today (this one). However, I am having trouble installing it. I tried both HP and Lenovo drivers for GOBI 2000. Under "Device Manager" I see "WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2" and "HP un2420 Mobile Broadband Module". Both of them dont have correct drivers.  I read in some forum post that sometimes the BIOS whitelist has to be modified in order to get the card to work.. how would I do that? Is there any other way of getting it to work? I care about the GPS more than about the 3G. Cant use Access Connections because of Win8.  Thanks in advance.
