New W701 did not come with the digitizer Pad?!

Question: New W701 did not come with the digitizer Pad?!

I just got a new W701 without the digitizer pad even though where I bought the product had displayed on a image in the website with the digi pad on it. See the link below:http://uk.insight.com/p/LENYA06TCV/lenovo-thinkpad-w701-2500-core-i7-720qm-16.html I really wanted the digi pad with it. I didn't even know W701 came without the digi pad. Did anyone else had this problem?

Preferred Solution: New W701 did not come with the digitizer Pad?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: New W701 did not come with the digitizer Pad?!

Hello Nags, welcome as our 75.000th forum member!

Unfortunately, when you look at the specs on the website you´re referring to, this model hasn´t a digitizer pad.

The mentioned input devices are: Keyboard, TrackPoint, UltraNav

I would contact the reseller about this problem.

Is there a list available showing some the applications for which the Wacom digitizer pad on the W701 can serve as an input device?

Hi all,I've the Lenovo Thinkpad W701 with Windows 8.1. I installed the current driver (from 2010!!) for Windows 7 and everything works fine for some years. But now I bought a new Wacom Intuos Pro. After installation of this drivers, the driver of the internal W701-digitizer crashes. Another problem of the internal W701-Digitizer:The work with current Adobe Cloud-products makes lot of problems: Photoshop CC uses the pen only with special tricks and Illustrator CC always crashes if the internal Wacom-driver is installed. At office it's no problem - here I use the external newer Wacom Intuos. But when travelling, the internal digitizer was a very nice function, which now doesn't work at my W701 since I installed the Intuos-Driver (I had to uninstall it, because it crashes evry time and it wasn't possible to start Adobe Illustrator, which has a problem with this old driver). So I think, the driver from 2010 is too old and didn't really work under Windows 8.1, has conflicts with newer Wacom-tablets and didn't support current functionality like WIndows Ink (which is necessary for Photoshop and Illustrator). Therefore my question:Did anybody know, if there are actual drivers othe then the official offered Lenovo-Driver for the W701-digitizer? Has anybody other also problems, running the internal W701-digitizer from Wacom together with newer Wacom-Tablets? Thanks al lot,Klaus

Answer:Wacom Digitizer on W701 and Win 8.1

Thanks to the very good service of Wacom, I've a very good solution:  You can download a current driver underhttp://www.wacom.eu/index4.asp?pid=9278&lang=deThis driver works with the Thinkpad W701 digitizer and supports also all current requirements used by adobe. Using this driver, you can additionally work with another Wacom-tablet (tested: The Intuos Pro) and Adobe Illustrator starts and all Adobe CC-products (Photoshop, Illustrator) are working very good with both digitizers: The Intuos AND the internal W701 Wacom digitizer. My question: Why doesn't Lenovo also support this good solution on it's driver-site?

Question: W701

Malfunction LCD screen or video card Whenever I turn on my laptop, I just see the entire screen in the primary colors. It flashes from red, blue, green, and white. Don't even see the POST screen. Had sent it in for repair, was told there is nothing wrong with my laptop. So they ship it back and I made a video and sent it back but now there is no ETA on the video card part. Has anyone experience this before?

Answer:W701

if you don't see anything else other than primary colour (also you should test it on external screen to confirm this problem) then it could be a graphics card issue.

Question: W701 2500-2EG

Hi, I'm unable to download drivers for the above product type, as it's not available in the list of options for this laptop. Any ideas why, and where I can get the up to date drivers for this? If you're an expert with this laptop and have seen windows struggling to find drivers for the USB ports (USB Device not recognised" error even when no device is plugged in) any advice greatly appreceited, not sure if this is a common fault. System board has just been replaced. Many thanks..

Hello. I'm Looking for a 1920x1200, quad core, at least sata 2 (300) thinkpad. Is W701 my unique option? I was looking for something lighter (and cheaper), like w510 but it has that horrible 16:9 screen that i hate. Is there any other option? Thanks, sorry for my bad english and greetings from Perú.

Answer:W701 unique option?

Welcome to the forum

If you want to stick to WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution, 17" screensize, and SATA-II you have the following options:

W700 / W700 DS
W701 / W701 DS

Alternatively you could have the same resolution in a 15.4" Thinkpad like:

W500
T500 (I don't think WUXGA was very common with these)

There are more options but then you need to customize them yourself or find somebody that did it already, this includes models like

R500
15.4" T61 (one older generation than the models above. You need to apply a modded BIOS for SATA-II speeds)
15.4" R61 (one older generation than the models above. You need to apply a modded BIOS for SATA-II speeds)

Hope this helps!

So im curious as to whether its possible to replace the quadro series card with a gtx mobile series card such as the gtx 480m. im not a cad user or such. ive been using lenovo thinkpads for 2 years after getting one as a gift and i wouldnt go with any other brand now. i want to get the w701 but i have no need for quadro and would prefer to use gtx as its better with games and such. yes i know these arent made for games but the functionality and build quality would make it much more suitable for a mobile like me. also another thing. how upgradeable is the w701 out of the box. are there any user replaceable parts?

Answer:Optional upgrades for W701

When I start the computer now, most of the time it will not start. All the led lights flash below the monitor and the initial screen shows. It mentions 'To interrupt normal start up, press the Thinkvantage button.' Absolutely nothing else happens no matter how long I leave it. Pressing the Thinkvantage button does absolutely nothing. There is not the slightest flicker of activity on the HD led after the first flash. While fiddling, I found out that if I pull the HD out and reinsert it, the computer will sometimes start. It is getting harder and harder to do, and takes more tries. The last time I had to take out both drives and trade places with them. The D drive is a rotating type and that might have helped to get it going because the contacts have a slightly different arrangement. There is one small extra port going to the computer. Of course there was no operating system on it, so couldn't do much with it. Turning it off and pushing the start button again was the only way to get it working. Unfortunately it takes more pushes, and last time it was about 50 tries and the first one that worked was when I had the C and D drives switched. Then when I switched them back, it started again. I haven't turned it off since. Lately I've given up and have just been leaving it on hibernate, but it's hard on the battery and I hate leaving it plugged in all the time. The puter is nearly 2 years old now. Once the HD starts, everything else is normal. It seems like i... Read more

Hi all,
I have recently received a W701 25003BU and I have just noticed that my Windows 7 x64 ultimate sees only 3 GB out of total 4 GB RAM installed:

It's very peculiar because I've updated my BIOS to 1.12 which supposed to fix exactly this problem.
Sadly I didn't pay attention to how it was before I did system update, so I am not sure if it was different before BIOS update.

Is anybody aware of this problem? This is pretty serious since pretty much 1/4 of my RAM is unusable.

Thanks in advance.

Update: just tried to roll back to 1.11, no luck - still only 3.06 GB usable ;(

Answer:W701 - Only 3.06 GB out of 4 GB RAM usable (Under Windows 7 X64!)

Nevermind - after long tinkering with clean installing, I have found the source of the problem!Apparently this problem was caused by DiskCryptor MBR bootloader (with pre-boot authentication). When I've removed DiskCryptor MBR, I've got all 4GB usable. No idea why it's like that, it was totally fine on my previous Toshiba laptop.Just letting you people know in case somebody else gets a similar problem.

Hi, There are two USB ports on left side of W701.  One says eSATA + "USB icon," another says, ss + "USB icon"  What does "ss" stands for?  Would you please help?  A reason that I ask is that when I plug in a Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard (N5901) transceiver in the port, the computer will hang at BIOS screen.  The transceiver on other USB ports boots fine. Thanks,Joe

Answer:W701 USB port question

Hi thepacket, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

ss for SuperSpeed USB, or USB 3.0.

USB 3.0 devices go up to 5Gbps (vs 480Mbps for USB 2.0 devices).

There must a compatibility problem with the wireless keyboard, although USB 3.0 is supposed to be backward compatible.

Okay, I may be completely out on a limb here but I've gotta ask... What do you think  the chances are of getting Lenovo to agree to install the ThinkPad Blu-ray Burner Ultrabay Enhanced Drive (Serial ATA) into a customized ThinkPad W701 build?Sure I could have it or maybe something even better installed after delivery or even go with an external optical drive but methinks it would be suhweet if I could get it already installed. And the BR-RE 50 GB DL within the laptop would be a handy capability.

Answer:Blu-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

FYI  Talked w/ sales today, they currently do not include the Blu-ray burner on the build list due to short production supply.  If supplies become readily available they may consider placing it on the build list options. Me thinks I should have posted this in the Options & Accessories Forum. Sorry moderator - my bad!

Hi I am planning to by a W701 with only one hard disk (W701 2500 NTV2EMD) Is the second hard disk slot active? - and does it come with rubber rails. Thanks in advance Lukfil

Answer:w701 second hard disk

The second HDD slot will be active, but does not come with the rubber rails to add a second HDD at a later date.

There are two different parts that go on a HDD to make it fit properly in a ThinkPad:
1)  HDD cage
2)  Rubber rails

The rubber rails are orderable, but the HDD cage is not.  The only way to get the HDD cage is to order a drive from Lenovo.  Without this cage, the rubber rails do not fit properly and the HDD will be loose inside the system.

You would be making it much easier on yourself if you just order the system with two drives.

I am going to either purchase a W701 or a Dell m6500 in the next day or so. I've had many Dells, but never a Lenovo. I understand the reputation for quality and that's why I am considering them. So here is what I would like to know before pulling the trigger: Can the Fn CTRL keys be flipped in BIOS on the W701 and W701DS?The Dual Display ads seem to indicate I can attach 2 external displays and still work on the laptop screen as my primary monitor.  I have never seen that in another machine and am wondering if I just have it wrong. It is the image in the gallery that has me asking this.Surely there is a way to not pay full price? A coupon code or promotion or something? The Lenovo is far more expensive that the Dell. Will I get a better buying experience calling or web? What is the typical time between order and delivery? I MUST have this by a certain date.Any current W700DS or W700 have comments or thoughts about the 2nd screen? It's a big investment when the little USB screens are so cheap: http://www.mimomonitors.com/Any help from current owners would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Questions before Purchasing an i7 W701

1. Lenove have implemented this function in new thinkpads. But you should call up tech support to make sure.

2. the internal GPU can only support 2 LCD at a time. So if you want to use the internal LCD then you only can use one external LCD. If you need an additional external monitor, you would need something like Lenovo usb2dvi converter.

3. Go to notebookreview.com or thinkpads.com have a look for some coupons.

4. web is better

5. Delivery time depends on configuration and parts availability, but 2 to 4 weeks is something you should expect.

6. People whom buys the W700ds probably need an integrated package, and isn't overtly worried about the extra money they would pay for that second screen.

I've been getting these random BSOD for awhile now, upgrading the display drivers generally doesn't fix the problem.  I know several people have had issues with this before, what's the deal with this, is this Lenovo or Nvidia or both fault?  How can this be fixed once and for all?

I used to have this problem, too. A workaround is disabling the PowerMizer of the graphics card: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W701ds-Nvidia-display-driver-crashes-frequentl... . This eliminates random system lock-ups from all 2xx.xx drivers to date.

Question: W701 Keyboard Flex

Seems like the left side of the keyboard is loose or flexes more than the right side.  Not solid.  Does anyone else have this issue or know of a fix? Regards,Dale

Answer:W701 Keyboard Flex

I'm having this issue with my W701, too.  I've tried affixing several small patches of double-sided tape between the keyboard bezel and the bottom of the left-hand side of the keyboard. It helped reduce the flex 'locally' whether the double-sided tape has been applied but appeared to induce 'local' flex to the part of the keyboard without the double-sided tape applied. I think the reason is that the double-sided tape had made the bottom surface of the keyboard more uneven. So, this is sadly not a solution.

Hey guys, I have a W701 2500-3MM, upgraded to 16GB 1333mh RAM, everything else is OOTB. I am getting hardware crashes during normal operation. The screen goes blank, the HDD light flashes ever 1-2 seconds for a short time (it doesn't look like it is doing anything). When this happens I can't revive it, no key combinations do anything. I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to give it a hard reboot. I have done the RAM, system board and CPU tests in the Lenovo recovery (F11) tool. No errors. I have not done the HDD tests yet. I can't find any relation to temperature, it seems to be doing it completely randomly. I have noticed it occuring more often when copying a large file (60GB) from a portable HDD. On another issue, the graphics driver crashes as well. nVidia knows how to restart itself and I get a notification in Win 7. Not sure if this is related - I have the latest drivers from the nVidia web site. Regards,Radi A.

Windows 7. I have a problem that has been happening for months. My wifi connection shows all 5 bars for signal strength, but every few days, pages quit loading. Sometimes I just have to click the 'try again' button a couple of times, but sometimes it takes more than that. I have to go to control panel > network and sharing center > wireless network connection and then on the small window that pops up, click on diagnose. Often enough no problem is found, but one problem is found repeatedly. The system goes to work diagnosing and repairing, and I get the message that it has: Reset "wireless connection network" adapter. It seems like it goes off its setting frequently. Is there anything I can do to prevent that? Is it an indication that there is some problem with the hardware? It's about 2 and a half years old and not on warranty now. Thanks in advance for the time.

OK I am new at this.I just wiped out my GoFlex contents attempting to use the recommended process of making a "copy" of the factory preloaded software. When I read the words COPY, I understand what COPY defines. However the "copy" process during the Create Recovery Media erased everything I had stored on my "backup" 500gb USB GoFlex. Am I PO'd?You bet !!! Fortunately I have other backup media. One really odd thing is that since this "copy" my GoFlex has gained capacity to 698gb. How can this be? Now another question: did all my data really get erased, and is there a way to view or restore it?Thinking that something is compressed and hidden. Oh yes, I have another question regarding the checkbox: Recover Drive Space. What does that destroy if it is checked? Am I pessimistic today? YES !!!

When starting the computer there is an option to press any letter to boot from dvd, but I don't see one to boot from an image back up on D. I also have the image back up on an external HD, just in case that happens to be easier. I want to reinstall the system from the image back up. Is there a way to do that? D is my second internal HD. I didn't realize that the dvd player is sometimes named D.

North American Solutions purchased several Lenovo W701 laptops from CDW, one of them had started to fail prematurely. It started off with the internal DC power supply failing. We first believed it was the external power supply but after replacing it with a new power supply it did not solve the problem. We of course found a temporary solution that was to maintain the laptop stationary. Then we started to notice various hardware components started to fail, including one of the processor's cores and the video card. Our USB ports have also completely failed and no connected device would be recognized by the computer (the computer does not see the device even hooked up). We ended up taking it in for repair at CDW which was supposed to be for free since the laptop is under warranty. We told the clerks up front and showed them that the there was some liquid accidentally spilled around the trackpad and the mouse keys (only the mouse keys) were slightly sticky but nonetheless everything functioned. They told us no problem and took it in for repair, few days later we receive an email stating that because there was some minor liquid spilled it meant the entire laptop's warranty was voided and thus it would cost to repair. CDW says the fault is Lenovo's since they are the ones who told them this. We have internal techs here which are now going to open this laptop up completely and photograph all the hardware because there is no way that the liquid ever touched any of the hardware ev... Hi vladkryvdyk, welcome to the forum,

certainly not a nice situation.  There are other posts in these boards about warranty service being refused due to liquid damage, the usual advice to members, in such circumstances, is to ask the service centre to provide photos of the liquid damage, did you request these and have you received them?  If so maybe you could share them?

Hello I was looking at the Lenovo.com site on the W701 (not 700) spec & running through the Customise options on a W701. It appears that 16GB of Memory is available for the 701 as an option. Does anyone know if the W700 could support the same level of memory? I am running 8GB at present on 2.53 Quad Core & it needs a "lift" for some of the work I am doing. Hence the question. Many thanks & kindest regardsMark

Answer:W700 16 GB Memory Possible? - W701 Option available now!

W701 have 4 ram slots according to a review that i have seen, so this may explain why it can support 16 gig of ram.

Hello, I recently added a second Intel SSD to my W701.  Windows 7 shows the new SSD in the Hardware Manager but W7 does not assign a logical drive number to the new SSD.  The new SSD does not appear in My Computer. Do I need to format the new SSD? If so, how do I force W7 to format the new SSD? And why didn't W7 format the new SSD when it was discovered by the Hardware Manager? Thank you

Answer:Windows 7 does not recognize second Intel SSD on W701

Windows never formats a drive without explicit user instructions. In the Start search, type in "Create and format hard disk partitions" and use Disk Management to assign a drive letter.

I've had this problem since the computer was still on warranty, but it was so infrequent then that it wasn't likely to happen while tech was looking at the computer. It seemed pointless to complain or try to get it fixed. Lately it has been getting worse and worse. It is 3 and a half years old and this has been the only serious problem, so I'm hoping for a way around it. When I press the power button to start it, it takes 2 or 3 seconds for the first visual to come on. It has the Thinkpad, Lenovo and Intel logos on it, and says: 'To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button.' That's as far as it gets. After that nothing happens, no drive activity at all and nothing I can do but shut it off.  When it first started I was living near the Pacific and humidity was high, about 50$ most of the time. It didn't affect any other computer in the house but seemed to be partly responsible for this problem. I would take the drives and the dvd player out, open the machine up as much as I could, and draw air through it with a vacuum hose. When I put it together again it usually started first try, but lately this has failed too. For awhile I was thinking it was a problem with the drive. It wasn't the typical SSD failure, but maybe some weird problem with it. But the next thing I did seems to indicate something else. I switched the C and D drives. (C is an SSD, D is a HD.) Starting on D didn't have the same problem. It wouldn't go too far becaus... Read more

W701 with current BIOS (6KET46WW v1.12) will hang if there is a USB dongle for a Microsoft Explorer Mouse USB dongle in the upper left USB (2.0) socket on boot. Works fine if you put the USB dongle in the lower USB/eSata socket. Note that the upper socket on this 2541-W1Z is NOT a USB 3.0 port (silver, not blue). Course I don't want to put it in that socket since I like to use that for eSata... Apparently the same problem exists in the W5XX laptops as well, but I don't see a post discussing the issue on the W701.

It's 3 and a half years old but there were problems with it since it was about 8 months old. It has finally gotten to the point where it needs to be replaced. From the Lenovo site this appears to be a drive that would work. http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73173 Unfortunately it has been amazingly difficult to even find out the price of it and another drive I'm considering. It's taken about 8 phone calls so far. Out of the last 3 (after going through the menu options), 2 disconnected and the third one finally said 'I'm sorry, your call did not go through. Please try again.' I have a preference for a Samsung drive anyway, this one: http://www.staples.ca/en/Samsung-840-PRO-256GB-25-SATA3-Internal-SSD/product_167664_2-CA_1_20001 (That one is from staples.ca in Canada, but they probably have it State side as well.) It has a 5 year warranty compared to 90 days from Lenovo, and a decent name. The problem is that if you look at the first drive I linked to, it has thin edges, and the carriage, caddy, or holder for it looks like mine. The Samsung drive wouldn't fit it. I've been Googling and read stories of people making duct tape (or whatever) bumpers and spacers to hold drives in place, and they have worked. I guess I'll try that as a last resort, but I wondered if anyone here had something that might work. Even if it's not a complete solution, it might spark another idea. tia

I'm having an unpleasant problem with my about 6 month old W701. It has been 'a beast of a laptop' up to this point. For the last 2 hours (or so, not sure about the time, but it has been long enough for about 6 rum. (No ice please. The cubes just take up room in the glass.) The hard drive barrel (coffee can, bean soup can, or whatever) has been lit most of the time. When I press ctrl+alt+delete and start task manager, (sigh) the memory usage is high enough for a few processes. But the CPU is 00 for all but Firefox, and taskmgr.exe. There it briefly rises to 1%. Under the processes tab, the activity is also shown as double 00s. **bleep** is busy on the hard drive?????? I have even unhooked the internet cable in case there is something nasty happening, but it didn't change anything. In applications, all it shows running is Firefox, Notepad++, and Stickey notes. Every time I try to do something like open a Word docx, I get the wheel of fortune (or whatever, but it sure likes spinning) and it takes minutes to load. I had been trying to run the disk fragmenter but canceled that. Any clues? Or even unlikely ideas? (sometimes even the smallest suggestion can help) Is there another way to find out **bleep** is taking up all the hard drive activity?? baffled (but I'm used to it)

Answer:Hard drive totally busy, W701

The CPU utilization isn't going to help you figure out what's hammering the HD, so pull up the Task Manager and add the I/O columns.  That will give you a clue what process is hitting the hard drive.  You should probably fire up the defrag and let it run overnight.  If the hard drive is 70% full (or more) you may want to delete some stuff first. Also, you may want to disable system restore and see if that's using a lot of resources. How much RAM is installed? May want to bump that up, too.

For the past two weeks, I have been getting BSOD repeatedly. I cannot pin down any common apps that are in use every time it crashes. It seems to be related to heavy network use, but not always. In some cases, I am doing a desktop share session (via GoToMeeting) when the crash happens. Sometimes I am just surfing via Google Chrome. Sometimes I have stepped away from the computer for 20 minutes and nothing is even open. The computer crashed on Friday, then not again until Tuesday morning, then twice on Tuesday, once right after I rebooted from the first one (maybe 15 minutes).

I've attached the zip file as directed and will answer these questions as best I can. Thanks in advance for any help.

I was recently lucky to snatch a refurbished W701 (2541-XF2) from Lenovo Outlet. The machine was advertised with 8GB RAM, 2 x 4GB DDR3 PC10600 modules. This information was later confirmed by both Lenovo sales and IBM tech support. The laptop I received however came with only 4 GB RAM, 2 x 2 GB DDR3 PC8500 modules (Samsung DRAMs).When I complained and tried to resolve the situation I was sent in circles between sales and tech. I first contacted sales, and the rep actually wanted to transfer me to tech support right away. After some discussion she looked up my machine's configuration and confirmed that it was supposed to have 8 GB RAM. She then however had the nerve to tell me the reason I see only 4 GB in Windows 7 Prof x64 was because the laptop has two 4GB modules and I had to multiply the Windows value by two, which would be 8GB in total (unbelievable!).I then followed her 'advise' and called IBM tech support. The first thing the tech rep told me was that sales shouldn't have transferred me to IBM in the first place, but resolved the situation by themselves. But since I was already in the line, he also confirmed my W701 is supposed to have 8 GB RAM, let me enter the BIOS to verify that it really has just 4 GB, and opened a case. He then transferred me back to sales. Great!Back to where I started the sales person offered me to return the laptop, which I denied (this is a discontinued model!). He then asked me to give him two business days to call back, while he confers with... Read more

Answer:Received W701 with only half of RAM, wrong memory type.

Update: Upon closer inspection I found two additional issues. 1. Whoever refurbished my machine has apparently installed a new LCD front bezel, and didn't care that the bezel didn't fit correctly leaving a gap open at the top edge.LCD bezel It also would have broken the budget to apply new screw covers, so the old ones had to be reused instead.cover 1cover 2 2. Upon full CPU load (Core i7 920XM) at 2 GHz, with 4 cores and 8 threads, one core overheats up to 100 degree Celsius within one minute, and the machine throttles down. So the CPU cooler was apparently not aligned appropriately. I have been buying Thinkpads since 8 years, but this is by far the worst experience I've ever made with a new machine. Or is this just the Outlet Store?

Hi, W-series end users  I would like to ask is there any sound quality difference between W701/W701ds and W510? I know that they are using different loudspeakers and same onboard sound card Conexant HD 20585, although W510 only have 1 jack for audio/microphone. So far, I have used 3 ThinkPad before. R51, T400, W510.Comparison of this 3, T400 have the loudest loudspeakers and problem-free SmartAudio EQ. R51 loudspeaker are still ok. But the W510 loudspeakers are really soft, softer than my old 3-years old low end Compaq Presario and the feature in SmartAudio EQ does not work at all or the way it suppose to be.

I do realize the amount of electricity it uses is trivial, but unfortunately the charge the battery carries isn't much either. Mostly it's just because I don't have a use for the fingerprint reader. I totally uninstalled the software from the control panel. I thought that would get the light out, but the 'light on' survived the not so complete uninstall. I'm hoping that there is a way to do it in the bios. If necessary I could download the fingerprint software again and do it from there, if that is possible. It it is possible to do it either way, please let me know. It is just a minor thing but I'm annoyed enough that I would like to get it sorted out.

Answer:Want the W701 fingerprint reader green light out when laptop is off

There should be a BIOS setting where you can choose if you want to be able to wake or turn on the computer using the fingerprints. Make sure it's not enabled and i belive the green light should go away. There is also a setting in the Lenovo fingerprint software where you can choose to turn off the green light even if that doesn't disable the fingerprint reader. I'm not sure how to disable the green light in Windows without this software installed.

If you don't want to use the fingerprint read anyway just make to disable the fingerprint reader in BIOS.

Hello,I have downloaded the nvidia driver 6md647ww (311.00), 64 bit version, and can't install on a Windows 7 64-bit system. It says "no compatible device found". The strange thing is, although the decompression routine and the window asking to start installation both say that they are the 64 bit version, the text besides the check mark "install the driver now" says it will install the 32 bit version (after decompressing the window says 64 bit in the upper part, but 32 bit in the lower part). So I guess there is an error in the installation routine which erronously wants to install the 32 bit version although it is DEFINITELY the 64 bit version I have downloaded. Also, I downloaded for testing the 32 bit version of the driver (5md647ww), and if I try to install that, I get exactly the same error as with the 64 bit version.Could someone please look into the 6md647ww, there is something wrong with it. Also, I can install 6md640ww and 6md643ww without any problems and switch between these two versions without any error - the 6md647ww issue is definitely NOT a problem of my OS configuration.I have a sporadic heavy crash issue with 6md643ww and need to upgrade badly. Please help. Best regards, MichaelSystem: Lenovo W701, 16 GB Ram, Windows 7 64 Bit, NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M

Grab the driver off of NVIDIA's site instead. They're almost if not exactly the same thing.

Hi All, I hope someone can advise with my issue as i have been unable to find any info on this elsewhere. I have a user who is trying to connect his 24" monitor as a 2nd monitor to his W701 laptop through the display port on the ThinkPad W700 Mini Dock 2.0 (Monitor cable is DVI, connect to a DVI to display port adapter into the display port in the dock station), the monitor will connect successfully with this setup directly into the laptop display port so the cables, monitor or laptop aren't the problem- it's something to do with it going through the dock station where the laptop just won't recognise that the display port it connected. Has anyone got any ideas? They would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Display port not working when w701 laptop connected to dock

Poke around a bit in regards to your dock and see if Lenovo has a restriction about using a DVD-DP adapter into the dock. Sometimes, ports on a dock are more limited than one might think.

This happens at least once a week. I click on bookmarks to open a page or 2 and they don't load. I go to start > control panel . Network and internet > Network and sharing center > Wireless Network Connection. This brings up a small window (a pane?) titled 'wireless network connection status.' At the bottom there is a diagnose button and I click on that. I get messages that it is checking this and that, and then finally it announces: ""Problem with wireless adapter or access point             Fixed" This happens with different browsers. Is there anything I can do to slow down the rate these problems are happening? (sigh)

Answer:Repeated problem with wireless adapter or access point W701

try updating the wireless driver that you got.

Hey guys, I have a few portabal USB hard drives that work normally. On my W701 at random times I get a "Diagnostic Module" error with various entries in the Event Log. Any portable hard drive will stop being responsive, and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to continue work. Hi,Yesterday I was supposed tto try out my new esata external disk, I had used it before with my EX495 homeserver, without any problems. But when I conncted it to teh W701 it seemed like the connection failed and the drive fell to sleep when I tried to write to it. When I used USB it worked perfectly, and with the server esata worked without a hitch. After trying that some time, I decided to try the lacie updater, and then a reboot. After that all of the usb ports failed. I had allready looked at the Lenovo updateprogram, and found some updates, so I controlled the computer with the trackpad, and updated, but when the computer rebooted suddenly, and screen showed a underscore blinking and that was it. After that the computer screen went black and won't turn on anymore. I have it it for 4-5 weeks now, and after 1 week the MB failed when setting in new ram, and was switched, now it has failed again - is there anything I could to, or does this one have to go in on service again?

After having my W701 for 5 weeks, with 2 replacment of MB due to different problems, last time bios and port problems, I got i back from Lenovo today. I had reported it with a no functional/very poor functional esata port. What happens is that: With my lacire drive; When I write to internaldrive everything is ok - when I write from my internal drive to the external it stops and says that the disc is no longer attached. With my chieftech cabinet with esata port:Writing from works fine - writing to starts good, then hangs for a minute or so - then drop from 50 MBps til 18 MBps, then continous, and does it again. When I use them against my HP Homeserver EX495 it works like a charm, so non of the disk is the problem, unless the have some love for my HP, and hate Lenovo - but that would seem rather absurd to me.  The last MB didn't work better, and the new one dosn't either. Anyone who has an idea? I can't belive that 2 MB has the same problem, or? Allthough the IBM technician admitted when asked that he had not tested the esata port, he figured that since it was on MB, and that was changed it would work fine - but obviously that wasn't right.  edit: I did another test now after packing a .rar file. The transfer to the lacie failed, but to chieftech it went fine. But - sending huge .tiff files was the reason of buying esata disk, so that dosn't really help me, other than telling that sending 100 files will crash, and 1 file is less proba... Read more

Hello!Yesterday I replaced the terrible keyboard on my W700ds with a T60 keyboard which does not suffer from keyboard flex. The replacement keyboard is excellent and really makes using the laptop much more enjoyable. However! In replacing the keyboard and reinstalling the palm rest you are to apply pressure all around the perimeter (particularly the top edge - that nearest the keyboard) for all of the clips to click in place. In doing this I noticed that the top edge of the palm rest just under the Windows key has a minor flex. It is not noticeable in use but is when you apply direct pressure (say, with two fingers).I had no reason to apply pressure in this way before installing the new keyboard and therefore I do not know if it did this before and if so if it is normal. So, is this normal? Or have I somehow caused some damage when reinstalling the keyboard? I was *incredibly* careful and so I find this unlikely but I'd appreciate some reassurance! Thanks!

Answer:W700/W700ds/W701/W701ds Palm Rest Flex - Normal?

if i apply a lot of pressure there then yes, but i am talking about 10 to 15 kg of force there.

Hi there, I have an X61 tablet, 7767 A4U, and want to buy a new digitizer pen. I come to ask if I can use a X41 or any other digitizer in my touch-laptop? By the way, can I make my screen finger-touchable, just through updating the software? My computer is only penable now, not for finger-touch. Thanks.Xiaodong

Answer:What digitizer can I use?

i believe an x41 pen will work but it probably won't fit in your holder and the eraser won't work. a gateway m275 pen will also work but again no eraser and it probably won't fit the holder.  i'm using an x41 pen in a gateway m275 tablet and it works fine. check in device manager under human interface devices and see if there is anything listed like, touch panel driver or HID-wacf008 or Gunze. not all x61's came with multi-touch screens.  from what i understand the viewing quality of the multi-touch is less than the pen version. probably because of the extra layer on the screen.  if you had multi-touch it would respond to your finger.

Answer:digitizer pen

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.

The Yoga 2 Pro doesn't have a digitizer. The panel is 10-finger capacitive touch. That said, there are a number of capacitive stylii available, but I don't have experience with them , so I can't offer a recommendation.

Hopefully other members will join the discussion with their experiences that will aid your decision.

Question: X60 Digitizer Pen

I have posted before about my recently acquired X60T having a gap all round between the screen and the bezel. This is making me very, very nervous about the use of the pen with Windows 8, because of the sharp glass edge that the pen needs to move across. The pen that came with the machine has no Lenovo part number, but it seems to work well. I ordered a cheap spare pen with spare nibs from ebay. It also has no part number, although the advert said"IBM LENOVO ThinkPad X60 X61 X200 X201 W700 Tablet Digitizer STYLUS PEN 39T7481" The pen shown in the advert has a grey piece at the rubber (as opposed to the nib) end, as does the pen that came with the tablet, but the ebay pen that came has a red rubber end. When I move this pen round on the screen, a spot moves under it, and it highlights things, but I cannot make it click anything. Similarly it won't draw in Paint like the older pen. Is it faulty, or is it a different type of pen? I am trying a possible fix found elsewhere on the net, of removing the nib and lying it on its side for 24 hours. What I really need to know id whether I need to replace the screen bezel or whether there is some magic gunge i can use to fill the gap.

The pen supplier hasn't yet replied, although it's early days, and thescreen bezel is still a problem. An additional slightly odd problem is that the Windows 8 pen calibration utility seems to throw the pen calibration off rather than improve it. I am holding the pen vertical to do this. Do I have to accept that pen actions are flaky with an older machine like this and Win8. The machine is otherwise extremely good for doing what I want - controlling a graphics intensive audio program - and seems far more suitable than my son's newish touch screen Acer Win8 converible device.

Question: Cracked Digitizer

Hi everyone,

It seems i've cracked the digitizer on my laptop and now the touch function doesn't work properly. While the display still works fine there's a giant crack across the screen and it's really annoying. I had to disable the touch via Hardware Manager because it was really going haywire.

I keep trying to call the support number, 1.866.724.8600, (removed content) but the machine keeps telling me that it " can't connect me to anybody."

I don't understand. How can I get ahold of someone at HP so I can get this fixed?

I have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga (1st) and the included pen was wokring fine until about few days ago. May have been after a lenovo or widows update. Now on a webpage the pen works as a scroller (like finger touch), and the drag feature (highlight, select/click and drag) doesn't work anymore. On windows office, the pen would automatically be set to draw. I figured out how to undo this, but there is no way I can find to make this the default. Every time I open Word it will be back to draw. No luck with trying to change the settings for the touch/pen.  Any help is appreciated.

Question: Yoga 910 Digitizer

I bought a Yoga 910, as I found out, it doesn't support active pens.  I see on a few sites they sell the display assembly.  https://www.amazon.com/910-14IKB-910-14ISK-Digitizer-Display-Assembly/dp/B071JV7R17 I wanted to know are these screens legit?  It was marketed without active support, but do they sell the screens with the digitizers in them seperately now?

That just looks like a replacement screen for the 910, no different to the one that comes with the laptop - it doesn't have a pen digitizer.

Answer:Tablet Digitizer Pen

It depends on where it is stuck.  Sometimes you can separate the keyboard bezel from the lower case, just slightly, and the pen will come out.  You can also use tweezers to see if you can grap the pen clip and pull it out.
