Question: Spotty scrolling with trackpoint? (X250)

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've noticed something similar running the same 18.1.27.14 driver on my W520.Does trying to two-finger scroll on the touchpad temporarily make the TrackPoint scroll better?Are you on Windows 7 or 8.x?I played a good few months of BF3 on TrackPoint only when my proper mouse died, and it works very well for following a moving target.

I had an X201 and last year upgraded to the x240. Along with the loss of the physical trackpoint buttons, lenovo also drastically changed the trackpoint hardware. The trackpoint height was shortened, the overall sensitivity/acceleration was drastically reduced, and the "press-to-select" functionality was removed. Does anyone know if those issues have also been addressed in the new x250? That is, is this basically the old (better) trackpoint that was used in prevoius models (e.g., the x201), or is it the same (**bleep**ty) trackpoint as in the x240, just with physical buttons.  Thanks,Chris

Also, I tried to ask this question in a sales chat, and got the response "the trackpad functionality has been designed to reproduce that of older models."   I said I wasn't interested in the trackpad, just the trackpoint, and asked explicitly whether I could register a mouse click by pressing the trackpoint.  That caused the rep (or bot) to disconnect... after two full minutes of waiting I was requed for a new rep.  Thanks Lenovo for that great customer service experience.

Hi! I have broken the connector of the trackpoint when I changed the keyboard of the laptop. As you can see in the image...  Is it a way to replace the "black lock" with another one or another way to solve this messh??! Thanks your suggestions! Christian

I know the Trackpoint on this generation has been discussed a lot already, but I have not seen anyone report this particular issue, and wanted to see if others can reproduce it.  I've been using an X200 for the last few years and finally moved up to the X250 now that decent screen options are available and the Trackpoint's physical buttons have returned. It's awesome... on the whole.  I got the machine yesterday, but to my surprise, I could not effectively navigate using the Trackpoint. Even with the Trackpad disabled, I found the Trackpoint giving me all sorts of trouble:  Left clicks constantly turning into drags. Drags not releasing (left button is released to drop, but drag remains in operation - item is not dropped). Left clicks not registering at all. I spent hours experimenting with drivers, kernels (in Linux), software settings etc. with no success, but now I have figured out what is happening: Coming from the X200 with no trackpad, I am used to resting my palm (base of thumb) on the wristpad beneath the trackpoint buttons. When I do this on the X250, I am resting my palm on the inactive trackpad. It turns out, even though the trackpad is deactivated (at both OS and BIOS levels), broad physical skin contact with the trackpad causes the trackpoint buttons to become unresponsive - it's as if I am stressing the internals of the trackpoint / pad combo system and it can only handle so much input, so it consta... Hello, I have just purchased an x250 which has the new dedicated trackpoint buttons. However these do not function even though the latest driver is installed. The trackpoint does not function either. The synaptics settings have the trackpoint unticked (disabled) and greyed out, its not possible to enable it there. The BIOS is updated and the trackpoint is enabled in there.  Does anyone have an idea how to enable the trackpoint?(sidenote the touchpad functions well)

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting.So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

One of the more persistent (of several) problems plaguing my P50 (20EN) is the spastic, herky-jerky scrolling when using the TrackPoint with middle button. This is far and away the worst trackpoint I have ever used, and I've used a lot of trackpoints over the last 20 years. There are only two TrackPoint settings on this machine, and neither is relevant to this issue:? The 'ThinkPad' tab in the Windows 10 'Mouse Properties' panel has a checkbox to enable and disable TrackPoint globally and radio buttons to select the middle button function.? The Synaptics Control Panel has a slider for controlling the TrackPoint scrolling speed. TrackPoint has always stood out on my list of reasons for buying ThinkPads in the first place, so this is issue particularly poignant for me, and, frankly, I'm close to my wit's end on this one. Please, someone tell me there exists a solution.

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs.There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available.The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics.This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Hello keviinf,modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also.Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hi, I'm on a X61t and my trackpoint+middle-button scrolling doesn't work in a few applications like iTunes, GIMP, and MatLab.  I downloaded the latest drivers and they fixed Office 07, but I didn't notice any other changes. It appears that older drivers had an easy way to go in and change settings for individual applications, per http://www.lvlolvlo.net/2007/02/11/office-2007-on-a-thinkpad-ultranav-support-for-scrolling-fix/.  I don't have the folders and files they refer to. How can I fix this? Thanks,Neal

I have an x61s running Windows Vista business (32 bit). Problem is the trackpoint scrolling feature not working in Apple web browser Safari. Somewhere on the web I found instructions for fixing this by editing file tp4table.dat located in c:/windows/system32 However, I cannot find any such dat file in that location. I did find a file with that name in the following location: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\tp4track.inf_45c84db5\tp4table.dat To this file I added the following lines: ;iTunes/Safari Scroll Fix*,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9*,*,Safari.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9 However, this did not help, trackpoint scrolling still doesn't work in Safari. Does anyone have an idea how I can get this working? Thanks

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway.But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

This happens to me all the time on DeviantArt >.>Never figured out a solution for it. One might be able to write a Greasemonkey script to disable that behavior though.

I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

I can use the mouse weel and everything smooth but when scolling with the TrackPoint it sems to always hang for 1 second half-way,. It may happen when CPU usage is 100%,  Chrome is well known for that. As I said It does not happen when using the ouse wheel so I think something could be done to prioritize the mouse driver. Look like the same problem people are havng with tackpad scrooling, Haven't tested, I'm not using it.

Touchpad doesn't respond, and when I press trackpoint middle button it acts as a mouse wheel (opens links in a new tab, scrolls only if I press it on the empty space) or sometimes doesn't work at all. I had drivers for ps/2 mouse and keyboard installed , if I try to install drivers from lenovo site, I get an error : Synaptics device not found!

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. I´ve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? This issue is really annoying, otherwise I love the X230 tablet!

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. It takes a lot of time and makes it easy to overshoot. I've been playing around with registry settings and the INI file, but haven't been able to figure it out. I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

I am trialing Adobe Lightroom and scrolling does not work with the Trackpoint unless I click on the scroll bars. I haven't had problems in any other apps but have not been able to find a solution for Lightroom. Any ideas?

There's a special rules list for TrackPoint scrolling under "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\TP4table.dat". Not sure how to define a rule though.

My trackpoint has been working fine until recently. Today it suddenly stopped moving the mouse cursor when I move the trackpoint. Instead it scrolls the window as if the middle button has been pressed down. But I did not press the middle button. The trackpoint just can't move the mouse cursor at all. I've tried rebooting without any difference. Any solutions?

Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

Whenever I scroll using my SmartPad: either with the "Edge Scroll" or the "Two-Finger Scroll" or when I scroll using the TrackPoint+its middle button, my web browser zooms in/out. Just as if Ctrl was being pressed. I have deactivated all the zooming gestures of the SmartPad, so "pinch zoom" is not the problem. This is an incredibly annoying bug and it makes the ThinkPad brand lose credibility.Is there any way to fix it?

I've got an x31 running Windows XP pro SP3.  Everything is fine. But when I plug in an external mouse into the PS/2 port of my media slice or docking station:  - the scrolling wheel on the mouse (logitech or sony) doesn't work  - the psysical movement required to move the cursor across the screen is silly    (nearly 10", vs 3 or 4 with a USB mouse) Ideas??

I have an X60 Tablet PC. Trackpoint scrolling works fine in programs running directly on the computer. When I log in through Windows RDP and run a program on one of our servers, the trackpoint scrolling feature does not work. I am able to use the scrolling feature on an old Fujitsu tablet PC on server based programs. I have downloaded the latest driver and checked all the settings but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks,John

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? Trackpoint scrolling on X201 running Windows 7 does not work in some windows in Quicken (transation registers) adn Thunderbird (inbox).  Other windows in those apps scroll fine with the trackpoint.  This worked ok in XP.  Any ideas on how to fix?

Question:I have a T42 ThinkPad and the vertical scrolling with TrackPoint's middle button won't work on MS Word and therefore not in my email either. Big pain in butt as I'm so used to using it. Are there any patches that fix that? Any ideas on why it won't work?

Pardon me if this is too much of a software question, but yeah, I'm trying out Firefox 6, and while the browser seems less crashy, I can no longer side scroll by holding the middle mouse button and using the Trackpoint. It's a big deal for me. Scrolling with the Trackpoint is basically my favorite feature; to me, it feels even more convenient than a touch screen. Any one else notice this issue, or know how to solve it?

It works for me (Firefox 6.0.2). Try updating your UltraNav driver from the Lenovo support page. The latest is fairly new, dated August 23.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

On my L420, i had it set so i can move the mouse with my thumb and scroll with my index finger with the center trackpoint button.
 
However, the Ultranav options are different for the W541, so, (as far as i can tell) i can't find the option to replicate this.

Basically, i want my center trackpoint button to be always in "scroll" mode, without the need to press the middle button and scroll like on the L420.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Question: DNS server spotty

Searched this topic and found no answer.I'm running win 7 pro, and just checked for any new Lenovo downloads. I boot up and wait a couple minutes to open the start page and things work fine. If I close the cover of the computer and open it to work on line, I can open say my email but can't open the next page.The internet access icon on the toolbar has a yellow icon telling me there is no internet access, this happens intermittently.Lenovo access connections shows a red X after the gateway.Is this a DNS problem? How can I correct?Thanks for any help.

I have a Netgear WiFi N600 cable modem/router (Model 3700) in the front of the house in my wife's office. The network name is Jones. Towards the back of the house, just outside of my office, I have a Netgear WiFi Range Extender (Model EX6100). The network name on the extender is JONES_2GEXT. The WiFi coverage inside of my office is not good. My office PC constantly switches between the 2 network names, although the JONES_2GEXT is much closer. I am not sure if my Netgear extender is configured correctly. I have called Netgear previously and they made some configuration changes and changed the channel, mostly to the modem/router. When I am in other areas of the home, my Internet connection is much better. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Windows VistaIE7Been using Youtube for a long while and had no problems. Then about a month ago, some trojan cleanup on the computer lead to having to flush the dns, after that, I've had trouble with Youtube and the uploaders.The new uploader wouldn't work, so I had to use the basic uploader, which worked every time. Then, mysteriously, the regular uploader started working. The basic uploader is gone and they now have an even simpler version called "upload classic"; I used that -- it was slow and working until a few days ago. Now it loads and loads forever and then about 95% of the time goes to a blank IE page where it's obviously failed, the other random 5% it goes to a new Youtube page where it says the upload was successful (and not all that new page loads correctly; I cannot, for example, see the meta tag line to enter meta tag words).So it's not having IE7 that's causing the problem, 'cause I am occassionally getting successful uploads, and before that I was always getting successful uploads.Now the new uploader isn't working.When I use the fancy uploader, this is what I get:And after about ten seconds or so I get this:Refreshing the page obviously does nothing. So the past two days I have had issues with my internet coming in and out or running extremely slow. When I monitor the Kbps sending/receiving, it fluctuates wildly from very fast to non-existent. I am very new to PC and have been trying to locate the problem through this site and others. I found a suggestion to run dds.com and dds.scr to show potential threats, but couldn't get those to run on Windows 8 so I was found a program FRST64 to run. I've attached the log zip below. My limited knowledge seems to indicate all the extra hosts that are connected might be an issue, however, I am very very naive to this thing. I sincerely hope someone can help because my only option right now is to reformat and try again.

Hi.

For a while now, we've been customers of a fiber-optics company in our town, called MiNet. Under MiNet, I started playing World of Warcraft, and I was amazed at my complete and utter lack of lag.

However, recently, my connection has become extremely spotty; I was able to go almost all day without any problems a couple of days ago, but then I got on today and I've had nothing BUT problems.

My internet seems to be simply cutting off, but not for more than what seems to be a few seconds. If I'm playing World of Warcraft, I'll be disconnected from the game. A tech guy we had come over blamed our connection problems on the game, so I stopped playing for three days; the problem continued anyway, disconnecting me from Windows Live Messenger every now and then.

Because I reconnect within seconds, Windows Diagnostics never finds any problems; however, just a little while ago, it failed to reconnect within those few seconds; I ran a diagnostic, and it said

"Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server.
Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response."

I'm at my wit's end; it's making it nearly impossible to do ANYTHING on the internet, let alone play my game. Is this a problem with my router, or do I need to call and inform my ISP of the problem?

It doesn't sound like I'm the only one having this problem, but here's my story:
Just got a new Dell running x64 Vista last week (Dec. 12). Since the day I took it out of the box, I've had spotty or no Internet connection. Pages will work one second, then not the next. Sometimes the browsers won't load my home page at all. I've tried using the two versions of IE7 (32 and 64) and Firefox 3.xx (whatever the latest version is).

I've had the ISP guys out here twice--it's not a problem on their end (I can connect to my PlayStation 3 just fine). I'm not using a router. I checked device manager, and their don't appear to be any problems with the network adapter. The network connection says it's connected to Local and Internet. I've disabled non-Windows security software. I've reset IE7. I've downloaded the latest Windows updates, including the security upgrade for IE, although I was having problems before the IE patch was released.

Should I download a different version of Firefox? Is plugin incompatability the problem? I'd prefer to use Firefox over IE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you open the add-ons tab in Firefox and disable all your installed add-ons (or there should be a safe mode Firefox icon in the start menu, assuming a standard install), Check if this improves the quality of service you are receiving. If it does you can then switch on each add-on individually to isolate the problem.

As this is also occurring with IE it could be something else of course.

You may want to run a malware sweep with Spybot S&D and imalwarebytes to rule out infection.

I ahve a netgear n600 wireless dual band gigabit router. When I transfer files now the transfer rate is extremely slow now. I have factory reset the modem, updated the firm ware, and even formatted my computer to make sure no lingering bugs are looming and limiting the transfer speed over the internet. Laptop formatted as well.

Can anyone help, or should I buy a new modem. Had it 3 yrs. It's the same wired and wireless. Spotty and i cant stream my movies over wired and wireless.

So, I have this brand new asus laptop, I've configured the network and vista isn't accessing the internet properly it seems. I can load some sites but not others, for exapmle google loads but not microsoft.com (it resolves the location but is constantly waiting). Also, I am able to ping any site from command line, so it seems that dns is resolving properly. I've updated the wireless driver. It seems like a compatability issue with the router, but as I'm new to vista I could be missing something.

the *OS* and the *router* are not going to have compatibility issues if you're using TCP/IP - it's standard.

What you *should* be looking at, instead, is if there is any pre-installed software, such as a firewall, or AV suite, that is preventing you from moving forward....

hi
my desktop computer has been acting weird the last few days.  All other wireless devices connect fine to the houses wifi. issues started when a friend of my 11 year old son plugged in his usb drive.  My son was also playing with hamachi for minecraft at same time so not sure root issue.   I have tried numerous things with no luck.
i have windows 7 64 bit system.
I have scanned with malware bytes and rogue killer and removed anything that popped up hoping it solved the issues with no luck. very few issues were found.
the symptoms are...
sometimes can't connect at all to homes wifi
if do connect, can't access wifi at all
if connected can takes 10 minutes to download a 10 MB file if at all.
I have checked proxy settings and nothing added to it..
any help is appreciated..

I have three Win 7 systems on my home network. They're all in the same workgroup, they have identical "Advanced Sharing Options" (File/Printer Sharing on, Network Discovery On, 40 or 56-bit encryption, Password Protection Off, Windows handles Homegroup). None belong to a HomeGroup, just the Workgroup (Workgroup).
One computer can access the other two, one can access one other, and the last can't access either of the others. They all have shared folders with identical share properties ('Everyone' has Full Control).
I'm getting errors stating that some systems can't be found, even though they show up when I open the 'Network' folder. Other errors state that I don't have permissions for particular folders,
I've been in computers professionally for 40 years, and the lack of consistency in Windows networking drives me nuts.
I would like all systems to be able to fully access all systems on the network. Any ideas?

A couple months ago my laptop took a fall off a low table while charging and landed right on the power plug in the rear. Now the plug is extremely finicky. I have to spin the plug around and put just the right amount of pressure in a certain direction to get a solid charge, otherwise the power blinks on and off rapidly or is just completely off. The power has blinked on and off so quickly that the rubber around the plug and the plastic on the computer has melted a bit! I tried taking the laptop completely apart to make sure the plug was still soldered to the mobo, and it appeared to be.

I may have to just bring it in to a computer repair shop. This will be the very first time I've ever had to bring a computer in to a shop, so I want to see if anyone has any ideas before I bring it in. Thanks.

There is clearly some physical damage. Without seeing it in person it would seem difficult for anyone on the internet to assess the damage accurately. Taking it to the repair shop would be the best course of action, IMO.

Alright, so. I have been using my main desktop for a while. To connect to the internet, I have a WiFi transmitter downstairs next to my modem and router, and a WiFi receiver next to my desktop. I tested it with a couple different online speed test, and got about 7 Mbps Down (Ping: 19). Now, using the same internet connection setup, on my laptop, I get about 25 Mbps Down (Ping: 18). On my desktop I get a solid 800Kbps down on a steam download, while on my laptop I get about 1.5 Mbps.

Is there anyway to make my download speed (Desktop) on steam more closely match the download speed shown on my laptops speed test?

Hi,

Up until two days ago, my laptop was working fine. It is a Lenovo Y530 running Windows 7.

I stayed at a hotel over the weekend. They had open wireless that then required I enter the hotel's weekly username and password. It worked fine the first night.

The second night it stopped working. I was unable to connect successfully; I would connect, and then I would receive the "Unidentified Network" with a yellow hazard triangle in the wireless menu.

I assumed it had something to do with the hotel. But when I returned home, I could not connect to either of my home networks, or a neighbor's connection.

This morning I connected via ethernet, and looked for solutions. The only change I made was to flush DNS. When I removed the ethernet connection, I was able to connect via Wifi.

That only lasted a couple minutes before my connection dropped. Now it disconnects and reconnects every couple of minutes.

I opened my laptop up to see if there were any loose wires connecting to the wireless adapter - I had been running around with my laptop in a backpack the day before - but there weren't any issues.

Some other symptoms are that I can sometimes only see a fraction of the available networks at once; I know there are many wireless networks around my house (~12), but sometimes I can only see three or five. Also, a speedtest used to give ~20/5 download/upload, but I now am receiving .23/.14. Most alarming is that I can sometimes only see one of my own home ... Read more

I just upgraded to Windows 7 a couple days ago, am using the x64 RC 7600 version. Anyhow, My linksys wifi card has been having troubles and I can't seem to find a good driver for it and to be honest I'm not even sure what the issues is. All I know is that my connection will randomly drop every 30 minutes or so. There's no pattern, sometimes it won't lose connection for hours, and sometimes my ping will rocket in a game to over 2k and it will drop connection 2 or 3 times in 10 minutes and then settle down again. Anyone having this problem or know a fix?

Resolved. Well at least it is back to the way it was before. Now it is worse than it was before, and yet again there is no explanation for it that I can find. I replaced the modem to be sure it wasn't that and it is still having the exact same problems. What is happening appears to be that it is disconnecting from the network on its own and then immediatly reconnecting within a 5-6 second time span.  It does this multiple times a minute, causing windows to switch to the page not found screen and screwing up the mouse's location. The network itself continus to have full bars and work perfectly fine for all other electronics. Even when it disconnects it reognizes the network is still there from what I can tell. When the modem was disconnected the laptop continued to show full bars, I'm not sure if this is related in any way but it seemed strange. My configuration is a modem connected to a router, the thinkpad would did not recognize any connection when I connected a cable from the modem itself to the laptop.

I recently recieved a replacement labtop, same make and model, but when I use this one for anything really the display driver will freeze then begin working again. It always comes with a pop up that says display driver failed and has recovered. I've tried clicking on the pop up but it just goes away, so I'm wondering if there is a way to get it to stop failing and just work smoothly, thank you all.

I live in an apartment with four other guys who like to play games online a fair amount. Out internet is not consistent; experience frequent spikes in lag, sometimes being not even able to connect to the internet. This happens whether we have only one device connected or 15. The computers are not the best quality but we have the same problems even when it is solely just an Xbox. Any ideas?

Hey everyone. I currently live in a space where internet is shared between myself, and our upstairs tennants. I do not have access to the modem. So.. if that nullifies any help, thanks anyways..!

Assuming that is not 100% a barrier, Ill try to detail the situation.

The internet is good most of the time, but frequently there will be disconnects. When this happens, all webpages will freeze. I cannot close them, and I cannot alt+ctr+delete out of them. When this is happening some of my other tabs will freeze or become unresponsive too.

I did some googling, and it looks very similar to this, but there were no solutions other than maybe it being a hardware issue.

I have found that if I am able to navigate to the wireless settings, and disconnect/reconnect it will instantly "unlock" everything. Pages will now be able to scrolled, unresponsive programs are now responsive again. Sometimes even the wireless settings tab will become unresponsive though. In these scenarios I have found I can press my "airplane mode" hotkey, and again it will "unrelease" everything.

This happens at least daily, and mostly every hour or so. It is quite frustrating. It would be awesome if this problem could be diagnosed.

Similar to the webpage I linked I am on windows 10.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having issues with Spotify on their phones. It started off as not being able to load, so I restarted my phone, then I had to reinstall the app, then it now loads but won't play any tracks I've saved for offline play. Please offer any assistance. I have a Lumia 950xl on the T-mobile network.

Has anyone experienced this or heard of a remedy? My Yoga 2 Pro's touchscreen will occasionally stop working, and the transition usually goes with it (meaning that when I rotate the device, the screen doesn't rotate to match). The bug is always fixed when I restart my laptop, and it only occurs after the laptop has been running for a while and I've closed the lid then reopened it. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

T400, internal Ultranav, external Ultranav USB Keyboard.Installed a new Windows 7 64bit SP1 Version on my T400.Installed UltraNav driver AND Ultranav Utility.After first reboot, driver works fine, scrolling works fine, 2 Tabs (for Unav internal and external USB) in Mouse Config.After second reboot, no scrolling, not more UNAV Tabs in Mouse Config, just the standard synaptics ones. Need my unav scrolling, Need help and ideas on how to solve this issue.

I have a new Flex 3 15" laptop (maybe a month old) and am experiencing horrible wifi performance out of it. We have other wifi devices in the home connecting to the exact same access points right next to the problem laptop that do not experience any of these problems. This is on a clean install of Windows 10 x64. The network is a robust 2.4ghz and 5ghz network with high bandwidth (~50gbps to the internet). The issues are seen when sitting 10-15 feet in direct line-of-sight to two different access points. After disabling power-saving features for the adapter (max performance all the time) I no longer see much latency to common domains like google.com (test via continuous ping). I'm unable to browse to many websites or they take several minutes and/or repeated attempts to load. Windows utilities also frequently indicate they cannot connect to the internet.hen I use the same browser via a wired connection the page loads immediately. The issue almost seems like a layer 4 or 5 issue given that continuous ping - either to my default gateway or to a domain like google.com - is continuously successful with low latency (~20ms). I've tried drivers both off of Windows update as well as Lenovo's website to no avail. I also have updated BIOS to the latest version available on Lenovo's website as I saw earlier there was an issue between Bluetooth and the internal wifi card. Some users reported that their WiFi reception became intermitent, slow or completely unusable after installing Windows 10, check the event viewer for system/driver errors. It seems that the WiFi adapter drivers for Windows 10 are the source of this behavior. It happened to me, went back to Windows 8.1 and everything is working fine.

Hello,

I have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 card in my Dell Inspiron computer that I bought new about 3 months ago. I've been having problems with the screen flickering (perhaps a refresh rate problem?), and also something very unusual - sometimes when I click on the Start button, when the start menu pops up the right half of it is crystal clear, but the left half is nearly unreadable. It's as if someone took an eraser and erased most of the words, but did a bad job of it. The icons look pretty much OK. Any ideas what's causing this and how to fix it?

Sounds like a flaky driver. Download the latest driver from here (AMD Radeon HD3450 256M Graphics Driver) then uninstall the card through Device Manager. Reboot the PC and install with the downloaded drivers.

Hey I updated to Windows 10 from 8.1. It was working well until it told me I had to create a new account and password. So I did and now I can use the computer fine and I have now have to login at the beginning which I don't want. I am concerned because when I go to >Settings >Accounts >Your email and accounts .... I get absolutely nothing. Nothing shows up. I want to just start the machine up and not have to login.

I am using bootcamp with a MacPro which could be an issue but I had 8.1 running like a champ with no issues at all. Bootcamp is 5.1.

Also, my wifi connection was fine for a couple of days after the upgrade. I downloaded an automatic update and after that my wifi needs to be troubleshot to connect. Then it drops out after 10 minutes or heavy usage. My wifi had been working flawlessly with 8.1.

Browsing is a chore...my gf and I have to press refresh 4 or 5 times before we're actually connected to a website. Chrome stalls with "sending request" before displaying the "Oops!" message or just sitting without loading the site the majority of the time. The same problem exists in Firefox and IE as well. The interesting thing is that we can actually get Netflix to stream more or less without hiccups once we actually get to a video site. We're also able to download and torrent at normal speeds. I purchased the IdeaCenter C560 about three weeks ago. It doesn't hold a connection to the wireless network, and never has. You access the Internet, then every few minutes you get a "Cannot connect - do you want to reload?" error. It's not the wireless network - all the other computers, tablets and laptops in the house connect just fine. It's not the actual connection either - the hookup worked fine with my last computer. I've only had this problem since I got the IdeaCenter. I ran a hardware scan, and everything passed. However, I got a warning at the "Connection" test. It said I (surprise) wasn't connected. Does this sound like a problem with the port? Thanks

I have the same problem on my C560.  WiFi stops working.  Connection says "Limited."  If I disconnect and reconnect, it will work again.  The issue happens frequently.  The issue is not with the network.  WiFi on a MacBook Pro and a Windows 7 laptop in the same location work fine.

I use a wusb54g adapter and my internet will only work for minutes at a time despite a strong connection to the linksys router and a year of relatively undistrubed internet (I only use Firefox btw). I tried changing channels to fix this. However, I later discovered McAfee & IE would not open because of errors and I was directed here.

For Step 1 I uninstalled 'View Point Media Player' and also found something called 'Media Motor' but it could not be found for uninstalling.
Then unexpectedly, after restarting my PC, McAfee did an update of its own (which hasn't happend in months) and seemed to be working again. A virus scan yielded nothing. IE also worked but both programs have alternated between error messages and properly running since then (they seem to do so in unison). The internet connection is still spotty.

I think I carried out the other steps correctly.

Extra Tidbit:
More than a year ago my PC was hit by a 'WinKRoot' and I went online to fix it (McAfee would only recognize the problem but wouldn't remove it). I dl'd a program (I don't remember where & I have since removed it) that seemed to work. I attached the log of its actions.

Also, I regularly run AdAware, Spybot S&D, McAfee, and get Windows Updates so I'm a little alarmed that Panda ActiveScan is finding spyware and viruses! I attached Panda's report.

I just a got a new Dell running Windows Vista 64-bit. I have a Comcast Cable modem (don't know the brand -- I think it's the newer, smaller version). I'm plugging the modem straight into the machine with an ethernet cable. The connection, however, is spotty, or it doesn't work at all. I've tried with both IE7 and Firefox.

The error I got on the pages that can't be accessed is "Cannot display the webpage. Check your connection, check that the address is correct or it could be a DNS error." I'm guessing it's the latter. I've tried doing cold boots of the modem and PC, disabled the McAfee firewall that came preinstalled, and lowered the security settings on the browsers. I've also changed the LAN settings to have it automatically search for a connection.

I also have a PlayStation 3, and when I switch the cable to the PS3, I usually have to reboot the modem a couple times before it works. The first times I try, I usually get a DNS error.

Comcast says their modem is fine (their tech support is wholly useless), and Dell downloaded me Firefox, which I thought had solved the problems (the web worked fine while I was still on the phone with them, but as soon as I hung up, I lost it).

Any other suggestions on what to try? Thanks in advance,

Garbage characters are showing under My Network Places icon on desktop. There appears spotty garbage/garbles characters in Windows. I checked Regional and Language Settings in control panel, and it's set to English (United States).
It may be that the profile has been corrupted.

I am on Comcast / xFinity Cable internet, been on it forever now, 10+ years, and it has been pretty stable and reliable for the most part of those ten years, I would say 85% stable. But more recently this year way less stable.

Well lately, since Spring almost, we get disconnected quite often especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoon. It will go offline, and say ' The DNS server isn't responding ' So I will unplug the Xfinity modem, wait 10 seconds, plug back in, and troubleshoot with Windows 10, and withing 5 minutes or so back on again, but then half hour later or hour will happen again, and same thing, and that can happen all morning and afternoon some days, but not all weekends. Seems weeknights when I game, it's 95% rock solid. But just the past week I started getting this issue, and I never had those issues ion late night game sessions before.

We have two gaming computers hooked up, and both the same issue, not just one PC.

So I went out and bought a $150 modem, hooked that up this weekend, called Comcast gave them the mac address to officially register it, all good for one day, rock solid, then Sunday morning, same disconnect again, same BS.

I have a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10. When I am at work the wifi connection works perfectly fine. However when I go home the wifi is extremely spotty. It will work and then randomly I will have trouble opening a webpage or checking my email. It will say my network connection is unavailable. The strange thing is my wife's wifi on her laptop will work perfectly fine even when mine is not. Is there a setting on my laptop that is getting messed up as I move between networks? Thanks for the help.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.

I have two PC's (Windows 8 & Windows 7) connected on a network and homegroup. For some time I have difficulty with the Windows 8 pc always recognizing the Windows 7 pc on the network (in my computer). When I click on the icon or the arrow to open on the branches, I get that the path is not recognized and it cannot connect. Other times, it works without a problem.

Going the other way (seeing the Windows 8 pc on the Windows 7), there is never a problem. When I click diagnosis problem, nothing is ever found. I don't think its a Windows 8 vs Windows 7 problem, more with the network setup, but I'm just guessing. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if my computer is infected or if it's just getting old (about 4 years) but it's gotten incredibly slow just in the past couple months. My internet connection has begun to fail at random, but other devices (tablet, phones) still are connected just fine. I update and run malwarebytes daily but nothing is ever found. Today the wifi light on the actual hardware of the laptop would not turn on, and no internet connection could be found. Finally with some digging, and I don't know really what I even did, the connection came back. We did just get a "faster, better" modem from comcast a while ago which is when the problems seemed to start, but as I said before, other devices like phones or tablets have no connectivity issues. 
 
I have a Gateway NV55C notebook running Windows7.

For the past several weeks, my internet connection has been very spotty on four different wireless networks. On each network, my laptop (Dell XPS 13 running Windows 7) displays five-bar connectivity, and does not show any errors connecting. However, sometimes the internet just stops working, and I have to refresh for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to regain a connection. Throughout these occasions, my laptop displays five bars, and there seems to be no pattern or warning of when this will occur.
 
I have run my free Avast! scans, and they have turned up nothing. My free McAfee security is expired. Oftentimes when I start my laptop in the morning, after it hibernated overnight, I find that it has been restarted. Often this is accompanied by an error message about some long combination of letters and numbers not being found, and occasionally Windows attempts to find a solution to what it describes as a blue screen error. I have never actually seen this screen, however.
 
Could my problems be virus-related? The laptop is less than a year old, and the other computers using these wireless networks have had no problems. Is there something my Avast! scans are missing? Could there be a hardware issue causing the blue screens and the faulty network connection?
 
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Was reading email and a pop up for Norton came up. I tried to close it, but there was no way to do it. When I closed the browser window there was an icon for norton on the desktop and a listing for it in the control panel -programs list. When I tried to remove it the message said it couldn't be removed until it was finished being changed. I then tried to run a virus scan, a virus was found, but the scan would never complete. Now my Charter Security Suite (F Secure) is uninstalled even though I did not do anything to Charter to result in that. I even tried to restore the system to a few days ago but nothing has helped. Here is my hijackthis log, please help me figure this out. Thank you

I just got an X250 myself, and am currently playing around with using an M.2 SSD (the 2242 size, it's a bit smaller than an mSATA SSD) and a "regular 7mm high" 2.5" SSD in it as well.

When I operate the scroll bar, instead of a smooth scroll down or up the page, the scrolling occurs in jerks, making the page appear to "ripple". I am using windows XP. In addition, when I watch DVDs the crarity is not so good. It has only just started happening. Any ideas?

Does this happen to the entire screen or portions of the screen (like a horzontal line), or just with the scroll bars?
