I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

Answer:Dual monitor issue Lenovo x220

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Answer:Lenovo x220 tablet graphic card issue

hey jwismer, could you uninstall the current graphic driver for you unit; let windows install its generic drivers and then test your unit with your CAD software.does the same problem occur?later, head to http://support.lenovo.com and install the latest graphic driver that is available there.

Good morning - This is mostly directed at Lenovo Support Staff, but also to those with a X220 Tablet or similar. After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue. The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD.  I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause. The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit.  As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues. I have yet to try the driver that is available from Windows Update - if I have a similar issue, I will go ahead and update this post. Hopefully this will provide some enlightenment to those few who've had to track down a similar issue, and let's hope Lenovo will respond. *Edit*I realize this is in the wrong forum.  Can the Moderator please move it to the X-Series Tablet Forum?  Thanks

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo B580 59-339463 (i5 3210m Ivy Bridge)  laptop, installed Win7, installed all drivers on the dvd (including the 3 wlan drivers - intel/realte/broadcom - not sure this was a smart move) only to find that I am unable to connect usign the wifi. I've been browsing round the web for the past 2 hours, but nothing seemed to help.WiFi is turned on (in BIOS, in device manager, in adaptor settings in fn+f5) The WiFi connections just don't show up in the list of network connections When diagnosing the WiFI connection I receive a message informing me that the "Wireless adapter is experieincing problems" and then this message: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter." Intel ProSet/WiFi tools -> Diagnostics -> Hardware Test FAILED. The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled                                                                         Software Test PASSED Since i'm rather new at all this, never having owned a laptop before, I've completely ran out of ideas. So I turn to you, maybe you know what to make of all this. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo B580 WiFi issue / Wireless connections not showing up, WIFI turned ON

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

You may please try

Enter BIOS by tapping F2 Load setup defaults
Download and install the latest wireless driver from the Lenovo Support site
Ensure the wifi switch is ON prior to installing the drivers.
Download and install the Lenovo power manager and hotkey drivers - these are integral to allowing the
FN+F5 hotkey to enable the wifi card
Uninstall Lenovo ReadyConn' software if it is pre-loaded

Right click my computer > manage > device management > network adapters > find your wireless
Adapter > double click > on power management tab, make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this

Hey everyone, Recently, my Lenovo Y50-70 started acting up. All of a sudden, i could not connect to a WiFi network. Whenver i check devicemanager, i see this "other devices -> networkcontroller" which has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. So i figured... this must be the problem.  Now whenever i check properties on this device, i get alot of stuff that i dont even know what it means. But the path directory to this device should be (it says this in the properties) ..\Driver\ACPI.  I dont really know what to do now... should i just delete this device and reinstall? because i could not find any ACPI drivers for my device. If anyone could help me out, that'd be great. Since i can not stay connected to this ethernet cable for ever.I will respond to any messages, so if anyone tries to help me, we can find whats up. Thanks,Yves

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 WiFi issue

It sounds like the driver needed by Windows to communicate with your WiFi adapter has become corrupted, so you need to go to Lenovo support site here, select the correct Windows operating system for your system, use the "Pick a Component" pulldown to select "Networking: Wirelesss LAN" and download the driver and install the latest driver.     I am not sure which one of the two drivers listed you need, but just try installing both of them, since only one will work, and the other will just fail to install. If all else fails,Right click on the network controller under "other devices",Select Uninstall,Check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device: (if offered), and then press OK.Reboot if prompted to do so, but if no reboot is required, just right click on any device in Device Manager and select "scan for hardware changes".    Windows will then scan for the card, and attempt to install the driver. Good Luck,

Yes, I've read all the other posts. This is what happened: I opened my computer one day and the wireless LAN does not detect any networks, even if there is a wireless network. I tried using the Windows Troubleshooter, cannot fix the problem. So I did a system restore, it fixed it. I opened it again today and the same issue happened. System Restore did nothing. Fn+F5 brings up the Lenovo Wireless Device Settings, but no Wireless is seen, only Bluetooth.  I've tried reinstalling Power Management, same thing. I've looked at the BIOS, Wireless Networking is on. When I try to reinstall the Wireless Lan Driver, the message No Matched Device Driver appears. I have attached a picture of what appears in the Device Manager:  I am running W7 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:Lenovo U460 WiFi issue

Hi cjquines,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The WIFI Device is not detected physically.

Try opening BIOS
Turn ON the computer and start pressing F2
     Computer should enter BIOS
Under configuration.. look for WLAN settings and make sure that it is Enabled.

Press F10 to save and exit and your device should be back.

If this setting is Already Enabled and still in device manager you can't find the Wireless, You might need to check the Actual WLAN card, maybe reseat it.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

So may try changing the power plan to high performance when in battery mode. Of course this will cause a faster drain in your battery.

I have recently bought a Lenovo C340, and have encountered a slight problem with wifi.  My ISP is BT and I have a dual band BT Homehub 4 which uses 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.  The preferred frequency for my set up should be 5ghz, but the Lenovo only detects and connects to the 2.4ghz frequency.  My tablet can connect to both frequencies and so it seems to be an issue with the Lenovo rather than with the Homehub.  The only advice given by BT is to give each frequency a different SSID, which I have done, but the Lenovo still doesn't detect the 5ghz signal.   Would anyone know if there is simple way of overcoming this issue, or should I just content myself with the 2.4ghz connection. Any help appreciated.

Apologies if this has been addressed before but my problem is pretty specific and I couldn't find any threads about it.  For a quick backgound, my OS is Windows 10 (was Windows 8 prior) and my network adapter is an Intel Centrino N-2230.  I have a Lenovo Y500 laptop and my internet has been having issues. For background, it was working fine until sometime early this year. I got an ethernet cable and mainly relied on that. Whenever I would unplug my ethernet cord, most of the time my internet wouldn't work - the open networks availble shown would just be empty even though all my other devices connected to the internet just fine. I ignored this and continued because I mainly only used it with ethernet anyways, and if I really needed to I could disable and reenable my network adapter to get the internet working (for like 30 seconds before it would often die again).  I'm back home from college now however, and I need a consistent internet. The problem I face now is that when my laptop isn't plugged in, I can't seem to use internet at all (I can do the disable and re-enable technique but it works for like 5 seconds before it stops working again). When my laptop is plugged in, it stays connected to the internet consistently, but the quality of the connection is really inconsistent. Try first downloading this into a flash drive: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops/IdeaPad-Y500-... Then, uninstall your old WLAN drivers. You won't be able to access internet after drivers are uninstalled, so use the file from the flash drive and install it onto your PC. A fresh driver install should do the trick. Hope it helps

I have to HLSW installed, it has function to show latency on your connection, whenever I don't do anything it stays around 15-20ms, but strange thing happens if I try to do anything at all that requires internet connection, even loading simple page takes it up to 1500-2000ms. Oh, and there are more CPUs in home network and they are working fine, so it's not internet provider issue. I wasn't like that from beginning, it started couple of days ago, tried reinstalling drivers couple times, tried looking for solution here, couldn't find any, do any of you have any idea what should I do to fix it?

Hey guys, I'd just like to address an issue with my Lenovo Ideapad U350. I had it since Nov 2009, and one major problem I have with it is connecting to WiFi.  The laptop can connect to WiFi only if the WiFi source is super close (like 1 to 12 inches away only). Even if its half a meter away from the WiFI source, it has problems connecting to it. Any solution/s to this?  P.S. I have another laptop and other WiFi-enabled devices which can connect to the WiFi source even at long distances. (Like 10 meters and farther, or even across rooms)...Why do these devices connect to the WiFi seamlessly (even at such long distances) while my Lenovo Ideapad U350 has problems connecting to WiFi even at (somewhat) short distances?  HELP! Please...

Dear Lenovo, It's a request to kindly understand the matter as I had a total frustrating updation procedure from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home For the updating process I would blame Microsoft and I informed them about the same but than I would like to know that why the Qualcomm A956x Wireless Network does not work with Windows 10,I tried everything possible from downloading the 64 bit drivers and even followed the instructions from Microsoft but nothing of sort has proved to be beneficial as I had to roll back to Windows 8.1 just after 1 day I upgraded to Windows 10 laptop was purchased this year and its not fair that I can't use Windows 10 as the adpater isn't functioning! My PC became quite useless as Lan, Wlan and Ethernet all were missing from the computer but immediately after restoring back to Windows 8.1 everything works perfect

I have the same issue with my G50-70 i3-4030U. It has a Intel AC-3160 wifi and Realtek wired LAN.It leaves only the option of going back to Windows 8.1I cannot believe that these issues are there for a 1 month old machine.Lenovo says it is verified for this setup, but it looks like it the list is just a lot of made up stuff.

I have a Lenovo 3000 v200 laptop running Windows XP SP3 (recently downgraded). It is fully updated with all Windows Updates and Lenovo Updates and no changes tohardware has been done. I experience two annoying problems. I have searched the forum thoroughly for answers(many other users seem to suffer from similar problems) but no solution has beenpresented. 1. My wireless connection works 95% of the time without problems. But occationally the wireless fails to initiate when I boot up the PC.Nothing I do will bring the WiFi into operation, only a reboot will solvethe problem. I have tried toying around with the options availablethrough the WiFi software without success. No networks are visibleeven though both the hardware and software WiFi switches are "on".The Device Manager does not indicate anything wrong with the unit.I have seen this message a few times: "The wireless stack failed to initiate".Anyone with a solution for this (excluding reboot, that is) ? 2. Standby does not work. When resuming after a standby some processseem to lock up most of the system resources. One of the processor coresworks at 100% load and the other one is idle. Looking into the Task ManagerI can see several processes competing for the top position in CPU usage.I do not get a clear picture of what process is the problem but I think it is securityrelated. It seems to be a driver problem rather than the result of my software(Firewall, Antivirus...). I assume this since the very same soft... Read more

Hmmm another one... Quite frustrating problem (i have the same problem).Every time i close the lid and the computer goes into standby the wireless network fails when i open the lid. It even fails when i dont close the lid. I have been searching on this problem and it seams like it's related to software and the Intel 5100 AGN wireless card.  No solution yet and Lenovo doesn't seem to care.

Hey Everyone, Basically I purchased a Lenovo Z510 got to say its a nice laptop specs are: Intel® Core? i5-4200M processor8Gb DDR3 RAM1Tb hard drive15.6 inch display (1366 x 768)DVD-RW dual layer driveDedicated 1Gb NVidia® GT740M graphics720p HD webcamUSB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, 2-in-1 card-readerDual JBL speakers with Dolby Home TheatreWindows 8Been having bad luck with laptops recently already returned a toshiba one recently, The issue with this which I am wondering if there is a fix for is a weak wifi signal, bars drop at times they are on 4 then its down to 1. If I touch certain areas such as the back of the screen it drops. Is this a known issue with lenovo laptops in addition to this I experience small amounts of jitter when watching 1080p videos on youtube. I can't ignore these small things and before I return this laptop was wondering if there is a fix or if anyone else has had these problems ? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 Weak WIFI Signal & LAG Issue

Dropping WiFi when touching the back of the screen is not normal. It might be that the antenna was torn during the assembly of your laptop and that can explain the sudden loss in signal when you touch the back of the laptop. The jitter issue can be caused by unoptimized display driver or the video is poorly encoded (if certain videos show this jitter). It can also be a refresh rate issue where the display cannot produce smooth frames at 30 fps or 24 fps though this can be fixed with good video codecs. Update to the latest Flash player and latest Intel drivers and see if the jitter issue lessens.

Hi all Thought I would share this after hours of internet searching what my issue could be and finding nothing except "Is your Wifi Enabled?" type responses.  So here is a succcint problem/solution that may work for you too. Problem A couple of week ago, my wifi connection started to be very slow at home and would not connect to public wifi hotspots, such as O2 Cloud.  I did the usual updating drivers etc with no success.  I eventually noticed that the signal bars on the discovered networks were weak and at public hotspots, extremely weak.  Made me think about the wifi antennae inside the laptop... Solution (only proceed if you dont mind your warranty possibly being invalidated, are competant and are fed up with your wifi not working) 1) Turn off laptop. 2) Remove Battery 3) Take the middle panel off the back of the laptop (three small screws out and slide panel forward) 4) The wifi card is the small card near the memory cards.  It SHOULD have two aerials attached via tiny circular connectors.  Mine were both loose. 5) Remove each aerial (remembering which colour cable goes to which connector) and carefully reattach securely.  They just click on.  Make sure cables are not pulling on the connectors or they may pop off again. 6) I then put a piece of electricians tape over the connectors to hold in place and to protect from the cover. 7) Replace cover, battery and hopefully this sorts... I have decided to upgrade my laptop's Wi-Fi modem to the newer one. So, I have checked the hardware maintenance manual for my laptop for the needed equipment and found out that the best option would be "WLAN card, 802.11a/g/n && 802.16e, Intel 6250NX MOW M PCIE NB HMC" (FRU number: 20002321). So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Even though I have upgraded BIOS to the latest available version. It would be great to have some explanation about the hardware compatibility. Otherwise it seems that I have just wasted my money on incompatible hardware.

I recently re-installed XP on an S10e but could not get the WLAN to work. I installed every driver on the lenovo website for the broadcom S series drivers but no success. And then tried again 2 weeks later I then re-formatted and installed Windows Vista but again same issues. SolutionGo to the device manager and select the Details tabMy VEN number was 8086 and DeV number 4327 I then went to http://www.pcidatabase.comentered the details and found that device was an Intel (R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN (according to the chip id)(use the browser find function with the device id number-saves a lot of time going through the list) followed the link to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?lang=eng and found the matching device id Wireless Technology >> Intel Centrino WIFI Products >>Intel WIFI Link 5300 and Intel WIFI Link 5100 installed the driver for my operating system and now everything is working 100% It seems that the device id in the BIOS is incorrect or that it really is an Intel and not broadcom chip. I hope this helps the many people that are having the same issue as I had and ends the endless traul on getting the WIFI working again. Good luck and let me know if it work for you

Hey guys,

I just got the Lenovo Y500 a few months ago and it came with the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.

The WiFi on this laptop kept on disconnecting after a while of use, at first I thought it was the laptop's problem but after I got a replacement because of a depixel on my screen the problem still occurs - the WiFi is unstable sometimes and the connection just disappears. I tried this with other Wifi connections at my University and home and friend's house but it still kept on disconnecting after a while.

Can anyone please give me a solution to this problem? I've already downloaded and installed the latest drivers.

Symptoms of this problem:
1. Disconnects after a while, it shows network available but I cannot connect to them
2. Sometimes, it doesn't show any network (i.e all my WiFi connections are not visible)
3. I cannot restart my WiFi because I go into Windows 8 "Change pc settings" and it says I cannot turn off my WiFi

This problem is really bugging me because every time this happens I have to restart my laptop!

I would really appreciate your help!

Hi guys, Previously I posted a thread "How to check & set download/upload speed". So, I just bought a new X220 to replace my old Acer laptop, and at that time I was not familiar with this X220, and I thought I had to change the setting from the Windows Network or the Lenovo Access Point software to get a higher download speed, as my download speed is only ranging around 15-30KB/S. I download using the Firefox browser. That is indeeed very slow as I'm at Singapore right now and I'm sure their speed is much more faster than that. I changed the bandwidth (something Hz) from 20 to 40Hz, but still the same. I even brought back to the store that I purchased this X220. The guy tried to download using their store internet connection and said the download speed is reasonable as their store connection is quite slow. Well, I just think 30KB/S is still unacceptable. So I just thought maybe I haven't found a high-speed wireless internet spot yet, and just now I tried to download some movies at my sister's place (dl speed is still max of 30KB/S) and thought to leave all the downloads alone, and before I left I also download iTunes from the itunes website. To my surprise, the download speed on the iTunes was like 1,5MB/S - 2,1MB/S and the movies speed were also started to increase to 300-400KB/S. And the weird thing is that after iTunes finished download, the movies download speed were also dropped down to 30KB/S. So, I had to repeatedly downloading the itunes again to get a 3... Read more

This post is just as information - i solved the problem, but it might help others in the same situation or might encurage Lenovo to change something (if possible). I was adding/enabling WPA security to my wireless router and therefore should change the settings of the my connection on the X220 (along with other wireless equipment).  That was NOT possible, neither using the Win7 network options, nor the Lenovo 'Access Connection' software. After booting the X220 i could see the different access points (SSID's), but when i tried to access anything Wifi related, the Wifi system just froze and i couldn't do anything. If i started out - after a reboot - trying to change the settings (add WPA and enter pass-phrase) in 'Access Connections' i got an error message like: "The program doesn't have the rights to make these changes", when trying to save the changed settings. The solution was to delete all Wifi profiles in 'Access Connections' and start all over with detecting SSID's, entering pass-phrases and so on, for all connections.  After i did this, the Win7 Wifi functionality works correctly too. I guess that updating the 'Access Connection' software (and/or Win7) at some point 'forgot' to convert the settings to a newer layout or similar error.  But it work perfectly now! Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

Hello, I keep losing wifi on a regular basis (several times per day). When this happens, an exclamation mark symbol appears on the wifi indicator in the taskbar.I have not been able to identify a trigger. It happens randomly as far as I can tell.I am sitting within 2 metres of the router. Non of my other devices experience connectivity problems. To reinstate wifi, I right click on the wifi icon in the taskbar and select troubleshoot problems. This always gets wifi working again. A hardware scan in Lenovo solution centre does not flag up any problems.Lenovo system update does not indicate any critical or recomended updates. Hi everyone, Just purchased a new x220, with what I think is a great build config. I've used a T42 for the last 4 years or so after having some bad run ins with Powerbooks. Mine came with the Intel Centrino N 1000 wireless card. Had I known better, I would have opted for the 6205. The problem I am having is that whenever I get about 15 feet away from my wireless router, I lose all data transfer. My T42 and my HP Tower (and my iPhone) can connect in the exact same distances with ease and still have plenty of bandwidth. The T42 for example won't stream HD video from netflix, but it will stream SD video. The HP tower being in my room, which is the furthest point away from the router and up a level, gives me a -6x to lower 70's via inSSIDer 2.0. If I travel more than 15 feet or so from a router, I still see the network being within range and the RSSI goes to about -60. The other two computers and my phone still are a breeze browsing the web at this distance, but the x220 just acts strange. Sometimes I will get very slow data transfer, most of the time I'll see that I have a good signal to the network but it has the ! yellow icon indicating that I have no internet access. I tried this at my parent's house today with the exact same results. When I was on the other side of the wall the connection was great. I go down the hall and its gone (but still visible). I have used the recommended settings by everyone for power management, reset everything, installed new dr... Read more

Hello Im a new user of a Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop I recently bought and I have a question about the Wifi driver for this computer. My x220 has installed the "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" Wifi card running in a "Windows 7 x64 bit" system, and when I go to download the latest updated drivers from "support.lenovo.com" it gives 3 options in the "Networking Wireless LAN" section where I think the correct one for my card is marked in this picture:http://imgur.com/UqLwENow if that is the correct driver for my Wifi card my question is if it is right that the Wifi driver is a 500MB file.... I want to check with more experienced Thinkpad users if that is correct and that is the file I need to download and install.Because if I go to the official Intel website I find the driver for my Wifi card is version 15.1.1 dated 5/3/2012 with a 25MB file which seems a bit more logic for a driver file.So which driver should I download and install? I dont use the autoupdater lenovo driver manager software because I like to personally download and store all my drivers with all my computers, so any hint or clue about this question would be appreciated, because like I said it is probably the first time in my life I see a 500MB driver file, thats humongous to put an adjetive. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Question about x220 Wifi driver

The primary reason this package is so large is that it contains drivers for multiple intel adapters for both 64 and 32 bit OS's for Windows 7, Vista , and XP.  It's sort of an all-in-one package. If you use Access Connections use this package, if not then either this or the driver from the Intel website will work fine.

I just bought a x220 4286CTO , it is a good machine but the wifi connection is really annonying .It becomes  very slow after 10 seconds or so after I turn on the wifi connection even the link status shows "300Mbps". The chip set is "intel wifi link 1000" in windows 7 64bit. I do see packet drops in ping command to web sites such as "google.com".I have upgraded to latest version of driver, v14.1.1.3 , but still no luck. I am using WPA2  PSK plus AES, other devices (iphone, ipad, T400 and etc) work well in my house.Any idea ?

Answer:X220 wifi slow problem

hey atlantisnj, uninstall the Access Connection. Try connecting using Windows built-in connection system. Does it work and are you able to maintain a good speed? If it does not, try uninstalling the current wifi driver that you have installed. let windows install its generic drivers and try again.

I have a new X220, with Windows 8 added on to the stock W7.  After lots of time on this forum, I have learned to use the Intel wireless drivers not the Lenovo-distributed ones, and that there are lots of other applications from Lenovo that need to be updated or "adapted" to Win8. But worst of all, a 5-year old X60 has far better wireless performance (connectivity to the access point, and throughput) than my very new X220.  Atheros chipset in the X60 and Intel in the X220. What gives?  Is this the advance of technology?  My X220 suffers from drop-outs and the X60 reliably connects and shows throughput.  I mean like up to 8 Mbps.   Is there a substitute wireless card (mini-pci or whatever) that I can replace the Intel unit?  Any other options other than a 30 meter wire?  --J

My new X220 comes with an Intel Wifi 1000 bgn. The wifi would only work if the computer sits few feet away from the router. It would not be able to connect to the wireless router if I'm sitting one floor above the router, while my other laptops do not have any connectivity trouble.  When it connects, the speed could drop to very low even with "excellent" signal quality as reported by Windows. Any hints?

Answer:X220 wifi very poor performance

Make sure your router has the latest firmware for it.  Seen this a lot with router with original firmware.  The router gets updated and most problems disappear.

Hello, I bought new X220 few weeks ago, everything worked just perfectly. Today I went into service centre to install into my machine Ericsson F5521gw modem and I am really extremely angry. Since I came home, Wifi (Intel N6205) started to losing connection, I see yellow triangle on wifi indicator often and the connection quality went down a lot... How is it possible??? Could anyone explain? Thanks!Skrble

Answer:X220 - Ericsson causes wifi problems???

Hi, skrbleInitial information is too insufficient.1. do wlan and wwan adapters persist within Device Manager as normal, w/o yellow symbols?2. why did you decide wwan card influences for the wifi card?3. what are the network connections, network configuration of your laptop?4. is Lenovo Access Connctions installed on your laptop? Are you using hot spot feature of this app?5. is network connection established using system network manager or an AC one?

Hello, about week or two ago, I maybe finally found solution to wifi connections problems on specific routers in channel N mode (Intel wifi card). I wanted to assure myself, that my method works (atleast for me), so I've been waiting last few days. Now, wifi is still stable and I can rely on it, however it sometimes takes a bit time to connect (does not matter, if I resume from sleep or simply power on). Access Connections works fine as well, no needs to remove it. Step 1: Create system restore point (I can't provide warranty, however in my case on X220 and E130 this method works) Step 2: Download driver for your Intel Wifi card (to prevent You from having none as you uninstall current version). Open this page, select your card, OS and choose file, what's name contains ...Ds... (for example, Wireless_17.1.0_Ds64.exe). These files with such a letters contains only whole driver without any additional applications, and they have worked for me better than the rest. I would like recommend you to download the latest driver version. Reason is simple - I hadn't tried older versions. Furthermore, new versions should fix some security problems. Anyway, if you are not really IT professionals (I admit that I am really not), then choose, like me, the newest version. However, if you want to try older version, don't forget to tell others about your result!  Step 3: Uninstall current Lenovo wireless Wifi driver, Intel PRO/Set and so on. You have to be sure, that your... Read more

Interesting, I have been battling with this issue on my X220 for more than 6 months now (since i decided to run software update (after long time not updating anything) and this problem started...

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling drivers, cleaning stuff, to no avail. I also tried intel wifi drivers and it didnt make any difference...

But I never stumbled upon this, two separate driver sets, S and DS... Do you happen to know what's so different about these drivers that makes it work?

In any case I just swapped out the Intel 6205 card for a broadcom based one after flashing a modified bios that removes the white list for lenovo approved adapters.

And I've not had any disconnections yet. I'll keep this in mind in case I upgrade to a Wireless AC card in the future, which will likely mean going to an Intel card, unless I find a broadcom based one.

Hi everybody, I ran into some issues with my X220 some weeks back and have been trying to fix them to no avail. As far as I can remember I took some time a few weeks back to install the 1.40 firmware-update and also updated the battery-firmware in the same routine. I'm not sure If it was immediately afterwards (since I'm using a dock with LAN), but the wifi-card (Intel 6205) wasn't recognized by the OS anymore. No entry in the device manager! Here's what I've seen/tried so far:1) What I was firstly able ot see was that the device would sometimes show up after returning from sleep when not in the dock.2) Since I have an Ericson WWAN-card i switched mPCIe places. WWAN-card works in both slots. No recognition of the Wifi-card in both. >> So it doesn't seem to be related to mPCIe or the board.3) My guess was a faulty card, so I tried a newly-bought Intel 7260 Wifi-card in the slot.3.1) The Wifi-card must have been recognized by the BIOS, since the whitelist-fault was presented and I had to remove it to even be able to boot again.3.2) As the warranty wasn't my concern anymore anyways I flashed a whitelist-disabled version of the 1.40 firmware. As promised, I was able to boot with the 7260 card.3.3) Yet still, the card is not presented in the device manager.4) Since my Windows 7-installation had quite some time on its shoulders I reckoned that maybe another OS would be able to properly recognize the card. I just freshly installed Windows 10 and again - not... Read more

Answer:X220 doesn't recognize Wifi-card

Update:I used a debian live installation running from a pendrive to look for detected hardware. No wifi was found - again for both cards.I'm really lost for ideas at this point. What really irritates me is that the BIOS/UEFI recognizes the 7260 card with correct VID and PID. Yet still the cards are somehow (I guess) not made available to the operating system. On another note: I've just noticed that I posted in the wrong forum section. It's about an X220, so the "ThinkPad X Series Laptops" forum would be the correct one. Could a moderator maybe move this topic?

Hi, It seems there's a lot of complaints around the Wifi adapter thinkpad b/g/n wireless (1x1 bgn). I really want to know how worse it is compared to Intel 6205 (not to mention 6300- it's really a beast, people say). Can somebody let me know whether Lenovo charges this much for a upgrade like this (thinkpad 1x1 to intel 6205), and is it worth? Thank you very much!

Answer:X220 with thinkpad b/g/n wireless (1x1 bgn)x1 bgn) wifi adapter

when you buy the X220 from US online store the upgrade from 1x1 bgn to 6205 was only around 15 dollars. It is definitely worth the upgrade from the 1x1 to the Intel 6205 (the 6300 not so much). Especially if:1. Your wireless hub doesn't have a powerful antenna.2. Lot of other people are using the same 2.4 ghz bandwidth. 3. And you can live with 150 mpbs (usually around 75 mbps are more common) transfer speed.

Now it looks like they are both on at the same time but I do know that it just sin't possible to have them both working at the same time. So what gives? Is this just a bug where it shows its on but really it is not? Should I ignore this issue? The person reporting this keeps sending in this bug as if its something serious, he has no connection issues or any other problems when resuming from sleep, he just keeps bugging me about it. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I've had this problem since new, and have reinstalled windows a number of times for unrelated reasons. When coming out of standby, the mouse is unresponsive for about 5s and it takes more than 20s for wifi to reconnect. Iinitially it tries to connect, then drops, then goes through the whole process again before connecting. I don't have this problem on other model Thinkpads, wifi connects immediately out of standby. Seems like it might be a driver problem. All drivers are up to date.

I've read from various places that Lenovo whitelists WLAN/WWAN cards in BIOS. What level of whitelisting do they do? Will this block all aftermarket cards? I'm interested in installing a Killer 1102N Wifi card (primarily because of the control over the network stack the driver provides the user with). Will I have any problems with this? Do I need to hack my BIOS etc? Heres a link to the actual wifi card product http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1102/  I'm only purchasing this aftermarket because Lenovo doesn't actually offer this card in their notebooks

Answer:X220 Tablet + Killer 1102 N Wifi Card?

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

The reason for the whitelist is to match the card to the antennas to comply with FCC regulations regarding interference.  Most mfgrs. do the same thing.  The link explains it fairly well.  The card has to be Lenovo branded.  You can take the exact same two wireless cards and if one is not Lenovo branded, it will throw the error.

And yes, you would have to modify the bios.

So my X220 with the Intel 6205 card is having issues reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep or hibernation. It takes about a minute for it to do so, though occasionally it will reconnect right away. Maybe 1 out of 20. When doing a cold boot or restart, it connects immediately upon the desktop showing up. This was not always the case, in fact when I first got my X220 in June, I have not had this issue.... In fact, I don't know when it started happening, but it was maybe a couple months ago. I just thought it was my old router going bad. Well I got a new router, and it still happens. I have the latest Intel WiFi drivers from Lenovo, and I even tried downgrading to the previous driver from Intel's site. Still the same problem. I tried setting a default profile in access connections, and that does not help. In fact, it behaves the same way if I totally uninstall access connections as well. In fact I tried this on three different brand routers, and I can reproduce it on all of them (Asus, Netgear & TP-Link) so I think this is not a router issue. Other devices in the house reconnect right away with no issues (iPhone 4, PS3, Mac desktop, Dell laptop). I currently have BIOS 1.24, but this was happening with 1.21 and 1.23 as well. My X220 originally came with 1.16, and I haven't updated it until 1.21. Unfortunately I don't remember that far back, if the problem started occuring then. There was a brief discussion about this in another thread, but it went nowhe... Read more

My brand new x220 was shipped with an outdated driver for the installed wireless card (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN). This resulted in extremely slow wireless browsing. After spending 4 hours changing settings on my laptop and wireless router I finally called tech support. They revealed the outdated driver, and showed me where to download the update. This solved the browsing problem. I understand keeping drivers updated is important, but I didn't expect a brand new computer to use two-year old drivers. It's like Lenovo shipped a laptop with "some assembly required, but didn't include the instructions. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Answer:x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

So did my old Dell long time ago. It happens and no biggie to install the new updated ones.Your X220 has an driver update in Lenovo device experience when you click on Start > Click on Lenovo Device Experience > click on Update and drivers.  This will guide you in downloading any newer drivers.... Of course there maybe newer ones just coming out and the update site takes a while to catch up

Question: Lenovo X220 PSU

Hi Guys, Thanks for clicking. About 6 months ago I ordered an X220 with the following specs: Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz 6 GB memory Win 7 Pro. It was really quite expensive, and it is still fairly new. The mains socket in the back has come loose, meaning I can't charge it at home. I work in IT and always take care with my kit. I have used HP Laptops and Dell Laptops for years on end and never had anything like this happen before. I called customer care and was told this isn't covered under warranty. I order tens of £thousands of Lenovo kit every year and I've never had anything as daft as this. Surely the fact that this laptop cost me about £1700 and it is less than 6 months old means that I should expect a certain amount of integrity, especiialy from a manufacturer who prides themselves on the ruggedness of their kit? Does anybody have any advice? Does anybody agree that this is a bit silly? I asked to speak to the customer care assistants manager and was told he was unavailable, I asked to speak to his managers manager and was he told he would also be unavailable. Anyways, rant over. Thanks in advance for your time all! Charles

Hi.  My X220 works perfectly in most situations. Most Wifi access points I connect to work just fine.Whenever I connect via WWAN I never have any issues. However:  there is a certain Wifi access point that my X220 cannot stay connected to.  It connects, then about 4 minutes later, the connection is dropped, and the only way to reconnect is to reset the centrino wireless adapter.  It does not matter whether I use Windows Wireless Services or Lenovo Access Connections.  After I do a reset, the connection will drop again a few minutes later.  A connection drop means an exclamation point appears with Limited Connectivity warning-- to be clear, at this point, there is zero internet access, until I reset the adapter.  This can go on forever, it does not matter if I reset 12 or 20 or 67 times, the connection will still drop after a few minutes. To be clear, in this location, every other Wifi enabled device works flawlessly.  Other laptops, iPads and iPhones all connect to this access point without incident and remain connected with excellent performance.  This is *not* a case of a defective access point.  In this location there is access point "NETGEAR" and also an extender "NETGEAR_EXT" For some unknown reason to me, my X220 cannot stay connected. About 2 months ago I sent my X220 back to Lenovo for replacement of the wireless, so I don't *think* the problem is because of the wirelesss card. I have trie... I've had no issues with my X220 for the past few years, been running great to the point that I completely stopped updating the drivers or the bios...

About a month ago I decided to do an upgrade in the System Update software, just get everything up to date. That included the latest bios, and all the other drivers...

Now since I've had an annoying issue with the WiFi (Intel 6205), where after coming out of sleep, it will disconnect from the WiFi after 15-30 minutes randomly. It ALWAYS happens, and it doesnt matter if it's idle, or downloading or streaming anything. It doesnt reconnect on its own, i have to cycle the wifi switch and it will reconnect, and stay connected for the remainder of time until i put it to sleep again.

There was another WiFi update since, and I installed it, and it didn't help... It's not an access point issue, as I've tried this on several WiFi routers and it does it every time...

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I dont feel like reinstalling, as everything other than this works perfectly.

Hi,  I'm considering to get an X220 stuffed with an i7, fast HD and lots of RAM.  However, after having my W500 replaced 3times within a period of 1 year I'm not so sure if it is a good idea to get a Lenovo.  Any links, hints or tips on the quality of the current X220?  The only major thing I came across until now was an issue with overheating. I'm planning to use the machine for some CPU heavylifting and it seems that a lot of X220 models are overheating and scaling down the CPU MHZ. I actually read something about that this behavior is by design. Is that really the case? I consider that the same as I would buy a Porsche that locks down at 70MPH. I don't see why a machine should scale down at 100%CPU speed.

Answer:Getting a X220 or Lenovo in gengeral?

Actually, you won?t be able to use any x220 (I?ve got a x220i with an i3) at its full capacity with AC power (65W adapter) only, while your battery is not attached to it (to protect it from the heat emitted by your hot cpu). This is the one big by-design flaw Lenovo incorprated at least into this one series of laptops. With a 90w ac adapter, you won?t have any problems, but it costs extra? You are free to think whatever you like? The issue is discussed with other X models herePeople are discussing alternative adapters here

I have a Lenovo X220 running Windows 7 with an Intel i5 2430m clocking at 2.40 gHz and an integrated video card. It's my only computer right now (I will not be getting a new one in the forseeable future) and so I play all my games on it. However, with the new games coming out requiring system requirements over 2.40 gHz, I was wondering is there anyway to push my CPU speed beyond 2.40 gHz without changing the CPU? If it's not possible, is there any compatible CPU upgrades which I can get for my Lenovo X220 which allows me to run GTA 5 at medium to high graphics at over 30 fps? I live in Hong Kong however so if you can provide any addresses to get these replacement CPU, that would be nice . Will appreciate any answers.

Answer:Lenovo X220 - How get it run as fast as possible?

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately you can't swap the CPU since it's soldered into the motherboard, meaning if you need more CPU power you'll need a new motherboard.

The most powerful option is an Intel Core i7-2640M (2.8-3.5 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache).

I anyhow doubt that the CPU above will play GTA5 correctly, I think your biggest bottleneck is the graphics card.

Hi there, I apologize for the rudimentary question... I was recently given the X220 as a gift. It seems great--but I need to install programs, burn CDs, and watch DVDs on this thing! To do so, what do I need to buy? Can I get any old CD/DVD reader, or do I have to buy the Ultrabase 3 + something else? I can't believe how impossible it is to find this out when browsing the website! Thanks,~Kalyx

Answer:Using CDs and DVDs with the Lenovo X220

The least costly solution would be to buy an external DVD drive with a USB connection that can be plugged into the USB port on your X220.  There are many on the market.

Hi, the above laptop has not been working well for quite some time (not sure if it was related to upgrading to Windows 8.1).  The laptop keeps 'hanging' and I have to reboot.   I have run the solution centre which it keeps failing on the hardware scan with results code: WMEBVV2S0-WJIAKG.  I have been unable to find out what this indicates and therefore a possible solution. Would appreciate any help. thank you mark

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Download inSSIDer and see if there's a neighbouring network that's overpowering your own.

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

Hello Champs,I know a bit of software & hardware but have been first time to the Caching thing so Need some Help. I had this X220 with Window 7 but i changed it to Windows 8.1 recently. In recent HP laptops i've seen they setup mSATA for caching for better speed from factory. Can i setup something like that for better performance. I know I can install windows separately on mSATA but that is only 32 GB not enough so i want the Cache type settings?   P.S. I have 32GB mSATA installed in system as Unallocated as i didnt need it. I have read something here ANOTHER POST but couldnt get it work for myself

Answer:Lenovo X220 Setting SSD as Cache

Try this one http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS035460,but x220 is absent in the compatibility list.

I've got strange problem with two Lenovo X220 laptops. After disassembling the laptop for cleaning and thermal paste exchange, I can't start both laptops. I've got no idea what could happened. Both laptops looks dead. I've checked all connections - looked OK. Any ideas what could happened? What did I do? After I conected the fans, I placed the motherboards by error to the wrong casing. After I started the laptops I found out that the motherboard were switched (I checked the motherboard s/n in BIOS and compared them with the sticker on the bottom of the casing). So after that I took the motherboards out of the casing again and placed them to the correct casing. And after that I wasn't able to start the laptops any more Anybody knows what could it be?

Answer:Lenovo X220 doesn't start at all

I'm trying to get Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop CS5 to have pressure sensitivity at the same time on my X220. I realize that once you uninstall the wacom driver, Sketchbook works, but Photoshop doesn't. When you reinstall the wacom driver, Photoshop works (along with my other drawing programs) and Sketchbook doesn't. Does anyone know how to fix this problem and have Sketchbook have pressure sensitivity along with the other programs?
