X1C2 TrackPoint fail

Question: X1C2 TrackPoint fail

TrackPoint (the red cap) stops working, while the TouchPad stays fully functional. And, after any reboot, or just simply wakes from sleep, my TrackPoint comes back. It's really wired. Any ideas? X1 Carbon 2rd (2014), Type 20A8. Windows 10. I have got BIOS, ultranav and ACPI drivers updated. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: X1C2 TrackPoint fail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The X1C2 SSD installs in an M.2 slot. From what I can see in the HMM this is larger than the WLAN and WWAN M.2 slots. Suppose you have a 128GB M.2 SSD in the X1C2 and you want to upgrade it to a 256GB M.2 SSD. How do you do the upgrade?

I suppose you could clone the 128GB SSD to a USB external HDD, replace the SSD with the 256GB, then clone the HDD to the new SSD. Is there an easier way?

After the upgrade you're left with the 128GB M.2 SSD. Does anyone offer an external enclosure for the M.2 SSDs used in the X1C2? (If so then that would also simplify the upgrade.)

Answer:X1C2 M.2 SSD upgrade

Hi Dorian,

There are M.2/SATA adapters around.  Some have enclosures.  I don't know what size the X1 uses but these seem to be able to handle multiple lengths.  I haven't tried any of these.

And they're not really external - unless you wrap them in yet another enclosure.

I've been experiencing a problem with my (relatively new) Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen laptop. If I shut my computer down while unplugged from AC power I am unable to restart via the power button. I've tried a few different methods of restarting: pressing the power button multiple times, using the emergency reset button (which appears to do nothing at all while the computer is shut down), and plugging in the AC power and trying the above methods. All of these options have been unsuccessful. The only solution that I've been able to find is to physically remove the battery from it's port, then reconnect the AC cable and press the power button. At that point, I can reinstall the battery and everything works normally, I can put the computer to sleep and use the computer for the full battery life without the AC power. I have verified that my battery health is at ~85% and I've had the computer for less than a year. I've tried to upgrade the firmware via the "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility" but am told I need no upgrade. My laptop still under warranty but after hours on hold with Lenovo support, I decided to take matters into my own hands and purchase a new Sony 8-cell battery to replace mine. After installing the battery, I've determined that the problem persists. I've seen similar issues in the forums but none mention any solutions or having to physically uninstall the battery in order to get the computer to turn on again. At this point, I'm at my wit's end. Any ideas? ... Read more

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere on this forum stating that this was a motherboard failure so you need to have the laptop sent into repair and they will switch the motherboard and then it should be fine again

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

I have two Windows 7 64 bit systems that worked perfectly until approx two weeks ago. They started becoming unresponsive to various websites, such as b1015.com (unable to listen live). Both computers then started having problems opening sites through google searches.

Following this, most updates on both computers fail. Downloads from the internet fail. Updating flash on one - failed. downloading .net framework update - failed.

One computer has MSE - updated and ran scan - no threats found
One computer has AVast - updated and ran scan - no threats found

Tried to download malwarebytes on the computer with avast - failed
went to XP station - downloaded to thumb drive and installed from thumb drive and ran  - no threats found

from cmd prompt -  ran sfc /scannow on both computers  -  no problems found

Can anyone give me any ideas of where to go from here to get both of these computers working properly again

Hi, l've been having a constant issue with my computer and I can't seem to get out of this trouble no matter how many times I reinstall and even wipe out my hard drive.

I wiped out everything in my hard drive and installed windows 7 Ultimate for the '7th' time, and the same problems happen every single time.

Right after the install, it seems to work fine but as I install numerous windows updates as it recommended (almost forced me to, 'cause it does automatically), my computer becomes so slow in everything.

It doesn't start up, the menu and such looks as if I'm in a safe mode (blocky and old looking) even if I manage to start it up, have to wait more than 15min or even 1hr for it to respond.

The situation I'm having now is, the pop up message saying:
"Failed to connect to a windows service: windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This prevents standard user from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond"

Also, the computer has been failing at installing several updates such as:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2763523)(KB2719857)(KB2735855)(KB2750841)(KB2732059)

Because of that, it sometimes ran chkdsk on the boot screen and deleted/fixed files.

I don't think it's ... Read more

I have a custom built PC, installed with Windows XP. Lately its been having trouble, but it is full blown rebellion as of last night. I think its probably a virus but I'm not that experienced with diagnosing.
Issues:
`My web browser (FireFox) crashes when trying to view certain things; PDF files are the main crash point
`I have a 16 GB flash drive that I have to reformat it every time I use it, which doesn't fix the problem it just lets me transfer again until I have to format it again.
`I have two hard drives that make up c,d,e,f,i,j,and k drives. When I opened "My Computer" I,J,and K:/ were missing. I couldn't see or access them.
`Its been freezing up a lot; forcing me to reboot
`(most recent)Now when I try to reboot it will rapidly switch screens from the black scanning, log in, windows xp (with the blue bar filling up), and a blue error screen. The blue error screen says to reboot if its the first time i've seen this; then it gives steps to follow if i've seen it before.

I've tried to run it in safe mode and it hasn't worked.

Please if you have any ideas let me know. Is it possible to recover my saved files? I backed up my files awhile ago but it is saved on a drive that is missing (I,J,or K) If you need more info just ask. Thanks for your help

Answer:Windows XP Crash Issues - Hard Drive fail, start up fail

Hi there
So what I gather is that you now cannot start your computer up at all, due to this issue. I'm actually unsure of the problem, it sounds to me like a Virus has been at your computer. It can't really be a hardware issue I don't think... I mean it is possible that what could have been happening is that your computer (Desktop or Laptop?) is overheating and its been damaged because of that... But that wouldn't really make sense, and also having Custom Built a computer I'm sure you'd have been smart enough to install a thoroughly capable cooling system.
It sounds to me like your hard drive has been corrupted though, BSOD usually means a pretty big issue. Thats why I was thinking hardware problem to begin with, you don't often get it for Virus's.
A couple of things we need to know:
Do you have any sort of Anti-Virus installed? If so, which one? How frequently did it scan? Did you find any virus's?
Also, how far into the boot process does the computer get before it loops? Are you able to enter BIOS settings before Blue Screen comes up and it loops? What happens when it loops?
And do you have a startup / boot disk for your computer. You certainly should do.

Hi guys a lot of research online brings me here, and I hope this will be the last stop before I put my fist through the screen of my laptop.

So a few days ago my computer can't connect to wireless, stuck in Limited mode. Troubleshoot says - "wireless connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration". i've uninstalled the driver, put valid settings from another laptop I have, I've uninstalled Bonjour, i've put netsh commands.. still nada. The USB connection I could use to tether also stopped working. I've tried other wifi connections and they don't work either. The strangest thing is that itunes won't recognize the phone, but windows does and i can go inside the folders.
I have the 169.254.x.x ipconfig forgot the name but like I've read here before it can't get to DHCP.

The laptop is 6 months old lenovo windows 7.
Would really appreciate some input on what else to try. Thank you!

I tried to update my BIOS on my T530 today.  Tried both 2.07 and 2.50 (I'm running 2.04).  I'm using the Windows app, not the BIOS CD.  With both 2.07 and 2.50, I get the following error message: "Fail to do module option. The utility process has not completed."  Can anyone help?  I saw one thread that indicated this may be because I chose the option to keep my custom start up image when presented with the option, but I was afraid to choose anything else.  FYI, now the Lenovo update utility doesn't even tell me there's a BIOS update available...it's listed in my installation history as a successful update! Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you are on Windows 8 it is likely because you need to do a full shutdown. The default is hibernate shutdown for the next boot. Then there will be cold reboot after which if may finish the process. Windows 8 shutdowns are totally different process and the machine is never totally off.

Good evening all,

Just to flag that this has also been posted in W7 Support sub-forum here:

Other thread

Re. the instruction thread - the link to DSS doesn't seem to work, and GMER is for 32-bit only. If there's anything I can do to kick things off, please let me know and I'll do it!

I've googled extensively around the issues I am facing, and tried all proposed solutions, but none have worked thus far.

Symptoms:I have 1-2 minutes of freedom after booting, then I can no longer run new programmes. I also cannot close some programmes e.g. Skype. Tabs in Chrome spazz, flash player dies, and any new navigation ends up with an eternal hanging/loading problem.
Unable to restart/shutdown conventionally (I have to do it physically)
I get the error "Failure to display security and shut down options ..." when I try ALT+CTRL+DEL

Safe mode is absolutely fine, so I assume it's not anything hardware related (though please correct me if I'm being naive). My second drive which runs off XP, which I only use for storage now, boots fine and has no problems.

I have not installed any new drivers, programmes, or otherwise made any meaningful changes recently.

Solutions I've tried:Reset winsock.
Shut off all start-up programmes using MSCONFIG.
Run virus scan at boot-up, deleted 2 items (win32 installmate ... prob trojans? Was an .exe that I had downloaded but never ran).
Run Malwarebytes scan, deleted 1 fairly innocuous item.
Run full scan-disk check.
Run a SFC scan... Read more

Brace yourselves for quite a saga:

In the beginning...I bought an HP 2710p tablet with Vista, on which I installed the upgrade to Windows 7. It worked wonderfully and I loved it.

After a few months of working well, I started getting strange symptoms. It started with not recognizing (some) USB devices unless the computer was started with them plugged in. Then, a failure to shut down correctly. After selecting shut down, Windows 7 would give me the "Logging Off..." screen, then move to the "Shutting Down..." screen and stay there indefinitely. The only way to shut down the system was by the physical power button.

So that was concerning, but turning it back on was fine, and everything but shutting down was normal. Then another development: whenever I left the computer on and unused for any period of time, it would restart. On logging in, windows would tell me "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown," telling me the reason was BlueScreen (and some diagnostic info I don't remember but that proved no help anyway). Of course, clicking "check for solution" did no good.

I figured I'd wait till the semester was done to figure out what on earth was up...which of course it didn't let me do. Upon trying to turn it on once, I was surprised with an immediate BlueScreen and "Windows failed to start."

I consulted with a GeekSquad guy who suggested I might have been suffering from a corrupted hard drive. So ... Read more

Friend of mine gave me her Acer Aspire 5742z-4813 because it fails to boot and eventually asks to repair, which it doesn't. Can't enter safe-mode, either.

Only thing she's said is that her daughter installed Norton 360 a few days before it crashed.

Things I've tried:

At command prompt, ran the following with no effect: bootrec.exe /FixMbr, bootrec.exe /FixBoot, bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd, chkdsk /f E:, and finally chkskd /f /r /x.

I also entered BIOS and changed HDD mode to IDE from ACHI. No joy.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Gang this is an issue I am stumped on.
At a law office, a lawyer uses Outlook [not Express] 2007 on Win XPP SP3 on a Dell laptop, docked. Recently they moved offices, but the ISP is the same [Centurylink]. The level of service is the same, and sadly his main mail account is with the ISP
Shortly after movein, his account stopped authorizing. I checked it via webmail and everything looked peachy. None of the account settings had changed. It worked one day, next day it didn't and no matter what I tried, it could never get credentialed again. So I setup a "new account" with the same settings [per their website]. It worked. I double checked all settings and they are identical to the failed one.

Fastforward: it happened again. This time, out of desperation, I uninstalled AVG as it has been known to cause this sort of problem via its email scanning function. Double checked my answer with an IT guy nearby and he agreed it was the most likely. Still, the 2nd account then would not login, so once again, I recreated the account. New one worked fine - settings identical to the other 2.

Now it has happened again with one difference: only the login/authorization to the outbound server [smtp] is blocked. Incoming Pop3 works, outgoing is blocked.
The new protection package is AVAST Free.

The system is behind a LAN Router, tied to the DSL modem - a pretty simple rig. 2 other XPP systems in the office have mail accounts on Centurylink and they are ok.

I am really stuck. My installation of Win 7 Ultimate has a problem. It will not install SP1, occasionally dies with the BSOD, sfc shows corrupt files that it cannot repair, start up repair from the repair disk cannot repair problems, and a repair install from the OEM disk terminates before it finishes. I have run virus scans (Vipre) and malware scans using the MS utility - the machine is clean. The problem had been an annoyance I couldn't solve until Saturday.

When I left on a business trip on the 2nd the PC was working fine. When I returned on the 7th the machine was running but the desktop was pixillated. I rebooted and it seemed fine. The next morning it wouldn't boot from my primary HD. None of the repair actions using the repair disk or the OEM disk worked. On boot I would get an error message that files were missing. I tried replacing the 'missing or corrupt' files from a good Win 7 installation on my laptop (same OS disk). No help - just a message other files were missing. I finally copied all the System 32 files and pasted them in. No joy.

My work around was to nuke a second HD and reinstall a earlier image - about a week earlier. The system is up and running, boots normally, but is not right. I cannot run a repair install from the OEM disk - it stalls about 1/3 of the way. The sfc still indicates there are corrupt files it cannot fix. MS System Update Readiness doesn't fix the problems. I'm running Sysinternals Process Monitor - it shows a number of 'Name not foun... Read more

Answer:Win 7 crash - SP1 fail - repair install fail

Last night I stumbled on to something that solved my inability to perform a repair reinstall of Win7 Ultimate. Keep in mind, my machine would not boot and that I had to restore my system from an image after none of the repair techniques would solve the problem. After restoring from the image I was able to boot up, but still could not perform a repair reinstall of Win7. Also, sfc still identified that there were corrupt files it could not repair.

I started to suspect something hardware related like mobo, RAM, or BIOS - not for any deep technical reason, just that nothing else seemed to work. I read something about 'bad RAM' or damaged RAM slots potentially causing problems. I pulled out 3 of the 4 1 GB Corsair CM2X1024-6400 sticks and ran a repair install.

The reinstall of Win7 Ultimate worked fine, no hitches. When I ran sfc after it indicated no problems. The automatic update downloaded a ton of MS files - all installed without a problem (I still haven't seen SP1 - and I not sure I'll try to install it yet, if it does show up.)

I'm going to reinstall the RAM one stick at a time and run memory diagnostics. I'd like to understand what happened. It's important for me to find out if it's a back stick, a bad socket, or something to do with mobo. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

One specific question: If I have to build a new computer - new mobo, cpu, and case - can I just rebuild the OS and apps from an image? The current computer is a Dell Inspir... Read more

Hello
I've been directed here by Reid (from the HijackThis Help section.
"Hi debell,

These errors appear to be software related. My suggestion is for you to post in the Windows XP section of the forum, giving them all the detail and explanations you've given me, and let the experts there give you a hand with this."

Here are the 'event' logs. Plus some event that might shed some light on the problem.
A little while ago i had to power off. Upon restarting (after more than 2 hours) the display would 'disappear' while still in the boot-up process. I shut down with the 'power' button on the PC & restarted in Safe mode. That worked. But again a 're-start' from there would go through the whole process but before the 'windows is starting' screen the display disappeared. In fact the monitor seemed to be dis-connected from the source - it has power-supply and 'indicator showed interface with comp - then abruptly the connection itself was gone. Finally after few more tries with the same results, i Chose 'Enable VGA mode' from the startup options screen (where Safe Mode etc are offered as options) That worked. I saw your mail & replying accordingly.
Thanks very much.

I don't think those a really errors, only warnings. Windows is just telling you about all the things that can't be started in safe-mode. I'm 50% sure that if you boot into safe-mode on any computer you'll see a whole bunch of those warnings in the event viewer.

Ok, trying to help out a friend with a lappy, update hangs with "Windows Modules installer stopped working and was closed" etc etc, I have tried everything I can think of, with no luck. I tired doing a scan with sfc /scannow and it fails at 29% saying "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation".

Any ideas or tips? I have tired just about everything I could google on the matter, nothing helpful.

Answer:Update fail and sfc /scannow fail

Reboot to Safe Mode Command Prompt only, run sfc /scannow and see what happens.

Next fast release 15019 is available or becoming available so does this new release come via Windows Update overwriting the current 15014 which is currently at my Windows Update page asking for a restart?
Or perform a recovery? Or quit Insiders and rejoin sort of speak? Insiders ISO file?
My Asus tablet and Lumia 435 is and always has been on fast ring...never a problem like this. I would like my Lenovo on fast ring.

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@[email protected]#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.

You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Answer:trackpoint loose

When you say the TrackPoint is loose, are you refering to the red cap that covers it?  If so, it's probably just worn out and needs to be replaced.  You can order replacements from Lenovo.  The part number is 73P2698, and here in the US, they're $9.99.  Sometimes they're also available on eBay.

I have a T60 laptop (purchased Jun 2006) which works great except for the trackpoint.  For the last few months, the trackpoint has not been working.  The touchpad works. Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot - 1.  Updated Ultra NAV driver and Utility software (the latest from lenovo website).  Actually un-installed old version and      re-installed new version2.  Updated the BIOS to the newer version and ensured that Trackpoint/NAV is set to enabled in BIOS3.  Replaced the keyboard (assumed it was a hardware problem).  During replacement, I made sure it was properly      seated to rule out a loose connection.4.  The motherboard was replaced last year (due to a another problem) so I assume it may not be the source of problem I have searched this and other websites but am out of luck.  Appreciate if any one can provide more leads/ideas to fix this.  I am not sure if this is software related. Thanks

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

Open the 'ThinkPad' or 'ThinkPad UltraNav' tab.
At the top next to 'Pointing Options', click 'Advanced'
In the 'General' tab, you will see 'TrackPoint pointing speed', adjust the slider,

Depending on which Ultranav version you have installed the steps may be slightly different, but they should be roughly the same.

Hi Oshri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with track point not working in your Lenovo T410 laptop
The Fn-key (F8) allows the to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad.

If the trackpoint is no longer working, this may be a good option to check before investigating device manager, updating / reinstalling trackpoint drivers or rebooting as discussed above.

Pressing Fn-F8 brings up the ultranav menu and allows the user to cycle through different trackpoint and touchpad configuration options.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

I'm using a Lenovo T61-8890 A24. It's a pretty old model but has been upgraded to be able to support Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.

I currently am facing a similar issue. In the BIOS, both my trackpoint and touchpad is detected and set to Automatic.
If I remove the entire palm rest and touchpad panel, I'm able to get the trackpoint to work, however once the touchpad is connected, the trackpoint just stops working.

I tried to enable it on the Ultranav program but it just doesn't work.

I tried the mouse properties and the trackpoint function is greyed out as shown below.

When I went into the device manager, the trackpoint is not detected.

I tried installing all versions of Ultranav, tried BIOS updates, tried cleaning the connectors, and still can't get the trackpoint to work together with the touchpad.

Any advice to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 - can't enable TrackPoint

Hi Dyna, Welcome to the forum. When you say Trackpoint doesn't work, do you mean:1. That trackpoint itself is not workingor 2. The left click, right click and scroll buttons associated with the trackpoint doesn't work. ========Also, you did not mention whether your trackpad works or not. Finally, what happens when you disable the trackpad in the BIOS menu? Does that affect your trackpoint and associated buttons' behaviours?

For the past week or two it seems that the mouse clicks on its own on my T420. This is in TrackPoint only mode (TouchPad disabled) with press to select disabled. This issue is reproducible as it generally happens right after a normal click or unclick. For example, if I highlight text in a word processor by clicking and dragging my cursor over the text when I release the button the system registers a phantom click within the next second or so. I also have noticed these phantom clicks after middle clickling. Does this sound like a possible driver issue or should I go ahead and call to have a tech come out and replace parts?

Answer:TrackPoint clicks on its own

@nibs,Try uninstalling UltraNav, reboot the laptop then install it back and see if it helps. If problem persist then I guess its time to contact the techs.

Is there any way to use the trackpoint on Lenovo computers as a joystick?  I.e. a device that would be useful for a flight simulator?  Essentially, it wouldn't be moving the mouse along a line based on the direction you're pushing it in with a speed based on your finger pressure,  but rather moving the mouse to a stationary position on the screen based on the direction and pressure you're pushing on it with.

Answer:Using the trackpoint as a joystick?

Download the latest version of ppjoy - it comes with a mouse to joystick driver that works well with trackpoint

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

I know I just posted a thread, but I figured that issue is global enough to warranty its own. But this one seems to be specific to me.I'm a new Thinkpad (and trackpoint) user, and the trackpoint is very choppy for me. It seems to skip frames. For example, making a circular motion with the trackpad results in a continuous, smooth motion. But not so with the trackpoint. It seems to be micro-jumping (or skipping frames as I prefer to call it). This is easily noticeable when holding down the middle trackpoint button and attempting to scroll a page. The page does not scroll smoothly at all (has nothing to do with smooth scrolling, that's something else and not what I'm talking about). Now this isn't just with this X220. Before the X220 I briefly owned a x120e that had this EXACT same problem. I asked about it and people told me that is not normal. So I returned it and got this X220, but it's the same problem. The weird thing is that while this choppiness is present in Windows, it was just fine during the Windows install process. I've tried: disabling the trackpad, reducing/increasing trapoint sensetivity, updating drivers, removing drivers and reinstalling, bumping the priority of the driver to high. None helped. What are the chances I'd receive two machines with the same problem?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

Disabling the trackpad from the BIOS fixed the issue it seems (its definitely much smoother). Diasbling it within Windows did not help. If I recall correctly disabling the trackpad in the x120e from the BIOS was not an option. Too bad. But odd that others do not have this problem. Oh and my palm was not resting on the trackpad

We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Answer:x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31.  Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left.  If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly.  At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.

Question: Trackpoint Issues

Hi, Just recently my trackpoint in my T61 stopped responding after having a little water in my keyboard near the left function and shift keys.  Attempting to fix the problem, I went to the mouse settings to make sure it was enabled, however the Trackpoint section was grayed out and the enabled box was unchecked. I also checked the BIOS settings and both the Trackpoint and touch pad are set to automatic. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav driver and utility. Is there anything else I should do to fix the problem? The amount of water that got into the keyboard did not look like it was much and evaporated pretty quickly, so I am not sure if this is just a coincidence or it is related to the water being in the keyboard.  I also tried tried the Trackpoint with a Ubuntu Live CD, but it did not work in Ubuntu either. Thanks

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.

No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:

Link to picture

Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.

Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?

Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

Hi All,Could someone help me to identify if my trackpoint on the T420S is broken? The images are here,http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7643/fig1k.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/199/fig2h.jpg  In the first image, the red trackpoint can easily come out of the fixture on the keyboard. If I take out the red cap, there is a black thing as shown in second image located on key "G."  I try to jam it into the fixture, but did not work out.Should this black thing need to always stay in the fixture? Is it just be glued to the fixture?Should I ask Lenovo for a service? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Is my trackpoint broken?

The images don't work, however, I think I understand.  The Trackpoint is a red rubber cap that just fits on a black plastic post between the G, H, and B keys.  It lifts right off of the black plastic post.  The post is a permanent part of the keyboard.  The "eraser" head is user replaceable when necessary. The underside of the Trackpoint "eraser" is hollowed out to fit over the black post.  It is snug, but does not require "jamming."  When in place, does it work?

Hello, Got x120e the other day and I have one question: This is my first Thinkpad (and first time witha trackpoint) - the trackpoint moves kind of choppy. It's not smooth movements like with the trackpad, as if it's missing frames or something. It's still perfectly useable but seems odd. Is this normal?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

No, it's not normal.  Mine moves as smooth as the touchpad (if not smoother) and responds to how much I move the stick.  Have you looked into the UltraNav Properties field of the trackpoint?  I'll leave this up to the experts to help you here.  This is my first Lenovo product too. But I'll like to comment that I wish the trackpoint would be at positions where your fingers will be while holding the machine.  The middle position works fine for a bigger laptop, but this is an ultraportable. Remember the IBM PalmTopPC110?  http://www.komotch2.com/tps/pt110.htm And the Toshiba Libretto:  http://www.silverace.com/libretto/libretto100j.jpg Some models' trackpoints are even located at behind the screen (i.e. on the lid).PalmTopPC110

I've been using Lenovo laptops for the last 10 years because of my preference for the trackpoint.  However, I recently purchased a P40 yoga and the trackpoint middle button scrolling is horrendous.  It takes 5 or 6 seconds before it starts scrolling.  Also, when you press the middle button, the cursor does not change to the scroll cursor.  Please help me fix this as I am very unhappy that my brand new computer does not work as well as my other (3 really old) Lenovo laptops.

Does it work properly in a Linux live USB environment?Unlikely, but maybe the motherboard is damaged and breaking the TrackPoint module on the keyboard? Does the keyboard connector look damaged?

Just couple days ago, my TrackPoint started to get weird. It started to move extremely fast on certain direction, and even I set to the lowest sensitivity, it still move extremely fast. Basically I have no control of the track point anymore. I tried to plug in a notebook mouse with trackpoint turned on, I still can't move my mouse. I have to disable the trackpoint. I even tried to replace the red cap but still no use. Does anyone have this problem and know how to fix this? Thanks.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Where the cursor keeps drifting after you let go when you are using the trackpoint? It doesn't do it all the time for me, but when it does, it kinda gets on my nerves.  Kinda takes the extra percision advantages away. Thanks!

Answer:Trackpoint Drifting after let go

yeah i have that problem, and i have a friend with the same problem. its just because the rubber doesnt stay seated right on the piece is sitting on, if you push on it too hard. thats my guess, but i could be wrong. i notice if i dont push on the rubber part very hard it keeps that from happening. for some reason i always push straight down on the rubber piece and thats when it does it the most.

Hi, I'm using touchpad instead of trackpoint and just wondering if it's possible to do a trackpoint buttons remap, so instead of LEFT/RIGHT-MOUSE-CLICK they would function as eg. BROWSER BACK/FORWARD ??? anybody heard about such remapper? (I tried the standard keyboard remappers and they didn't work)

I just got my new ThinkPad T440s, and I'm having some difficulties getting the Trackpoint to work properly. Whenever I power up the system, the Trackpoint is responsive for a minute or so and then completely stops working, while the touchpad works just fine. I have tried re-installing/ updating the Ultranav driver, but no luck. I have also tried a complete factory restore, and the problem remains.  I noticed that when I don't have the Ultranav driver installed, the trackpoint works a little while longer but then gets a bit crazy. By that I mean moving the cursor using either touchpad or trackpoint somehow ends up opening shortcuts, moving icons or the taskbar, etc. It's hard to explain, but it's like the cursor moves all over the screen rapidly "left-clicking" and "right-clicking" all over the place.  It's strange that when I'm going through the Windows installation prompts, the trackpoint seemed to work just fine. This and the fact that it works for a minute upon start-up make me think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? I haven't tried doing anything in the BIOS, if there's something that could be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:T440s Trackpoint problems

Hi zorero, You can check in the bios if the trackpoint is enabled but if it works sometimes it might be anyway. you should try to remove the keyboard, unplug the trackpad and replug it.It can be just just a connection problem where the plug is not properly attached to the motherboard. There is the link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual where you can find how to remove the keyboard: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440s_hmm_en_sp40a25360_01.pdf Hope that helps, Vince.

With the latest (4.64) Trackpoint driver installed the trackpoint is still unreliable after switch on/reboot. The driver was specifically supposed to fix this issue so are others still seeing the same problem? Note when the trackpoint works it is fine i.e. only upon start is there an issue, it is reliable once working.

Hello, guys. I recently purchased the Thinkpad T420 and so far am very satisfied. I noticed a problem though. I wanted to use the track point so I pressed FN + F8 and nothing. Figured ok, I'll go to through the control panel. Pressed on the mouse option under devices and printers. There is no trackpoint tab or the nav. I clicked on all the tabs. All I have are wheel, hardware, pointing device, buttons, pointers, and pointer options. Please help! Before I had an old IBM thinkpad and the trackpoint worked. One of the greatest assets! Thanks.

Hello everybody,i would like to tell you about an issue which i experienced with my t430u (model 3353-3ng).If i try to mark elements (eg. on the desktop) by holding the left trackpoint button, the signal sometimes breaks up and starts marking again at the point where it broke up (the same happens with the right button too). I tried the drivers which are supposed to make the trackpad and trackpoint work properly on my device. Without the drivers the problem doesn't appear but then the trackpoint sometimes doesn't work at all or stops working. I experienced the problem with a new machine out of the box. So i decided to contact the reseller to get a new one. This took about a week or two (getting the labels, bring it to the post office, they checking the machine etc...). When i received the new one i experienced the problem too. This time they wouldn't take it back because i ran out of their "reseller-warranty" (don't know if there is an equivalent, in german it's "Gerwährleistung").So this time they sent it to a lenovo-service-partner called "Servion". They replaced the keyboard with a new one. This didn't do anything at all, issue still appeared. So i called the service-partner and told them that the problem is still there, explained the exact issue and that i want to send it to them again. As i got it back this third time (including first replacement) the problem was still there.. This time i decided to call the lenovo support directly. At this point around 4 or 5 weeks ... Read more

Hiseems T460s (20F9) is wors than my previous laptop T420s, I can't move it so freely as before. At certain point the mouse cursor just stops moving and have to use force with a finger to make it move anywhere. I noticed the cap hole is now much smaller than f.ex. T420s, perhaps this is the reason for it. I found a link on the net to make the movement possible better;http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/thinkpad-t460s-trackpoint-mod.790347/In addition, previously there came several Caps with the laptop, now there is not a single extra one. So I don't dare to try the fix above link before I have at least one extra cap in case something goes wrong. So the question is what is the product code for the Thinkpad T460s Trackpoint Cap collection? I tried to look in the net, hard to find.  I used Lenovoguickpick and the possible code might be this;ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set (Part # 4XH0L55146)Then again googling that with amazon produces no results so can't get those anywhere. Any help appreciated, Thank You.

Hi,   I bought an X61 (type: 7673-BE9) last month. Now I have met a trackpoint issue. It will not work at any time: no response to left and right buttons, no response to the red stick. If I reboot the system, it maybe works or doesn't. In the later case,  I noticed that there was a yellow exclamation mark before trackpoint in the hardware management.   I have tried to reinstall the trackpoint driver(4.62), but it was helpless. Here's my system information:    OS:    Windows XP sp2    BIOS: 2.07    Trackpoint Driver Version: 4.62   Would anyone please help me? Thanks a lot.                                Best Regards                                  Thiross

Answer:X61 trackpoint doesn't work

Hi, Im experiencing exactly the same Problems on my X61. I was using Windows Vista for three month and had no problems at all. The strange mouse behaviour just started after installing Windows XP. The funny thing is that the mouse stops working some seconds after the GUI boot. So i tried to kill all of the trackpoint tasks running, but I didnt find any task being responsible for this behaviour. My next try will be to stop some drivers and see if I can find the problem here.Did you find any other solution?Best regards, dkirsten

My couple week old T400 is having some TrackPoint issues. The cursor doesn't jump, I've checked all my settings, and the touchpad is off. What is does do is when I navigate upwards, sometimes the cursor will slowly move downwards on the screen without me touching it, for at least 2 full seconds. It moves slowly, not quickly, sort of like the Trackpoint not resetting to its neutral position. Does anyone else have issues where the cursor using the trackpoint doesn't completely stop moving? Even sometimes when trying to navigate to click a point on the screen, the cursor will push itself downward, so I end up having to exert even more pressure to get it to move in the opposite direction I want to go. Sorry if this isn't a good explanation of my issue, it's a bit hard to explain. Again, the touchpad is off and the click feature for the TrackPoint is also off. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (hopefully solutions!)!Message Edited by song510 on 06-16-2009 09:40 AM

I'm in the market for a new notebook.  As a long time ThinkPad user, I have to say the new trackpoint set up bothers me.  I know they said in the blogs Windows 8 users deserve a better touch pad, but I would ask don't us long time ThinkPad users, who've supported the brand for years, deserve something too, but what do I know. Anyway, the T440s and T440p are on my short list of new laptops.  Finally, a 14" ThinkPad with a good screen, but I've heard the new integrated pointstick buttons are noisy and I hate noisy buttons.  It's one of the reasons I've always had ThinkPads at the top of my list - silky smooth buttons.  Is there any consensus on how well the new setup works or anything I should know before buying?  I live no where near any place I could see one in person to judge for myself.  I'm not going through the hassle of buying one and having to return it, regardless of the restocking fee.  Thanks for any help.

Answer:trackpoint scrolling on T21 not working

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if Lenovo has said anything about possibly switching back to tactile buttons for the trackpoint or not? Even if it's an after-market install, I'd still be really interested in this. From what I've used of the new setup, it ruins 1/2 of the reasons I chose ThinkPads and I'm looking for a new laptop, but am unable to justify using the awful new trackpoint buttons. For now I will likely go with an older model, but I was really hoping to get my hands on the t440p with 4 cores so I could actually do virtualization on my laptop. Thanks for any help!

Hello I recieved my P50 today and wonder if any other P50-owners experience the same thing as I. The three buttons below the keyboard (the trackpoint mouse-buttons) and the spacebar sounds like knocking a pen on a table. It is noticeable louder than earlier thinkpads. Most of the keyboard is very quiet, its just the high noise from the spacebar and trackpoint-buttons that is rather loud. How does your keyboard and trackpoint sound?

Hey! I have a problem with the following symptoms on a T61 9659 CTO model. - trackpoint randomly stops working during use or after wake up- this issue appears under Windows 7 64 bit and also Ubuntu Linux- there is nothing in the system log- sometimes, after waking up, neither of trackpoint and touchpad are usable and ultranav options are greyed out for both.- A full power cycle is alwas helps (poweroff, cold start) but a reboot or sleep/wake cycle is also helps sometimes)- as far as I notived, this behaviour can happen even if I leave the machine on the desktop alone (no physical impact on the chassis)- during these, keyboard remains operational (despite that they share the flex cable with the trackpoint) So what I think is less likely:- driver issue (2 different OSs, same behaviour)- cable issue (working keyboard, also happens when notebook us untouched) So, what? I saw a lot of topics about this, because this issue showed up on different models (also non-lenovo products are affected) and I really annoyed and want to find out the root cause. Buying a replacement keyboard, new notebook, anything else is not an option. I hope, there are a guy out there with a circuit drawing or something like this, who can help. Yes, I tried to reinstall ultranav driver, etc, blah blah blah. This is an issue, not just a driver bug. Thanks for any help!

Answer:T61 trackpoint stops randomly

Findings so far:- After a BIOS reset and a power management drive update, this issue seems to be solved- Notebook ran for almost 8 hours w/o any problem- After setting power plan to optimize performance and a sleep/wake up cycle, problem appeared again, but gone after switching to other power scheme

T40 Details:2373-92U I've been having this problem with my trackpoint and ultranav mice for quite some time - it seems that only the left button generates any response by the OS, and that response is most often a "right click."  The actual right button is unresponsive.  I've tried the option under "control panel -> mouse -> button configuration -> switch primary and secondary buttons"  whether checked or unchecked, the left button still has the same behavior.  Occasionally, the left button will stop working entirely within a window - apparently the best way to resolve this is to use the left button to click anywhere on the desktop: the context menu appears, and after using the left button to click on any item within the context window the left button will once again become responsive in all windows (although it will still act like the right button when clicking). External USB mice and Bluetooth mice do not have this problem - those mice respond properly to left/right clicks. My best guess is that the keyboard unit (08k4957 or 08k4986) needs to be replaced, however I'm hoping there's a more definitive test I can perform before shelling out the $$ for a new keyboard unit.  I say this because the ultranav mousepad also has the same problem and I see it plugs into a separate location within the laptop - is there another common component within the laptop that could cause common failure between the two built-in mice? Thank... Hello, I have been experiencing this issue for quite a long time. Initially I thought it was due to an update for Windows XP, but I couldn't find any message on the logs when the laptop hangs. I re-installed XP several times to discard any software-related incompatibility, but even with a fresh install it was happening. I recently realized after several tests that the problem occurred more frequently when moving the mouse (trackpoint or touchpad) right after system boot (either cold boot or boot from hibernation). What I found out is that it will no longer happen if I suspend the laptop after the system has started, not touching the mouse. The symptoms are that Windows freezes. No HD activity at all, system doesn't respond to any mouse/keyboard input. If I close the laptop cover the system doesn't hibernate. The only way to resume normal operation is pressing the power off button for a few seconds, so the system turns off, then turn on normally. All drivers are up to date. Has anyone experience this issue? Thanks

I am having some trouble with the trackpoint of my E560, and would like to know if it is possible to disable the trackpoint without disabling the trackpoint buttons (above the trackpad).Whenever I have the trackpoint enabled the cursor will start drifting and the trackpad will respond badly to input. However, when I disable the trackpoint the trackpoint buttons are also disabled, which I use frequently.Tech support sent me a new keyboard, but this didn't fix the issue and I cannot afford to lose my laptop for a week for repair at the moment. Support told me there is a option to disable the trackpoit in the BIOS, which does not seem to be there even though I updated the BIOS. Is there a way to disable the trackpoint without disabling the buttons? Or a way to repair without losig my laptop for a prolonged time? This is a DOA issue, and not the only issue i've been having with this laptop. Really expected better quality from a Thinkpad especially on the driver level.Been having trouble with the mouse and video driver since day one. Even on a clean install.

I've got my P70 recently, and everything works well except I have 2 issues with the keyboard and trackpoint working together: 1) Holding down Fn keys with left click and drag of the trackpoint does not work: this is incredibly frustrating, for example pan, rotate, and zoom in autodesk inventor are bound to F2-F4 keys with left mouse click 2) There is about a 1-2 second lockout period for the trackpoint left click button after any keyboard button press. For example when trying to edit a bunch of lines in code, typing and moving to a new location does not work, because you have to keep left clicking untill the lockout expires.  Both of these issues make the machine essentially unusable in any professional software, either CAD or software development.  None of these issues show up if I plugin the old usb thinkpad travel keyboard that also has a trackpoint in it, so this must be either a hardware or a driver bug in the P70 itself.  Anybody else expririncing this issue or know a solution to this? Or perhaps I just got some bad hardware?

Hello,I have a new issue since i updated my t60p. I opened it to add a SSD and a new processor (T7200), and since i reassembled it, my trackpoint doesn't work unless i unplug the palm rest (so the touchpad id unplugged). If I plug the palm rest, the trackpoint stops to work. It does it even on a linux live cd, so it is not a driver problem. In the bios both trackpoint and touchpad are set on "automatic".Do you know this issue guys ?Thanks

Answer:[T60p] Trackpoint issue

This is odd, but if what you report is 100% accurate, then it must be caused by the disassembly, so I would suspect the keyboard connector. Try unplugging and replugging it on the system board. While it's off take a good look at both connectors with a jewers loop, see if you see any damage. If you do, don't go any further without extreme caution. The keyboard can be replaced very inexpensively, but if you damage the connector on the board, you're looking at a lot of work and money. I'll also state that I've done this hundreds of times and never had a problem like this, so it really sounds more like a software problem, but I won't doubt that you have ruled out that posibility, but you might want to double check. Also make sure all the other keys work on your keyboard...  in fact you may want to do that first. If your connector is damaged or not seated properly, it's probable that other keys won't be working too. There are many software programs to test keyboards, There are also online tests you can use. I found this one on a google search, but I make no claims to it's function, or the safety of the webpage.... keyboardtester.com So use it at your own risk

Hi there, I've been using a T400 for around a year now. Previously, I could move the trackpoint and the touchpad at the same time (left hand on the trackpoint and right hand on the touchpad). I reformated, installed the drivers for both, and now if I am using the trackpoint and try to move the touchpad at the same time, there is about a 2 second delay before I get any movement from the touchpad. Any ideas? It is a really big annoyance because even if I am using the track point and stop moving it, and then immediately try and move the touchpad there is still a second where no movement happens, and I have to lift my finger and put it back down on the touchpad before the cursor moves. Thanks,-Ben

Answer:Using Touchpad and Trackpoint simultaneously.

I use the trackpoint and usually have both pad and trackpoint turned on.  Normally, i would have my palm resting on the pad while using the trackpoint.  If the pad reacted to my touch while i'm using the trackpoint, it would be quite annoying because the mouse would move unintentionally.  having approx 1-2 sec delay fixes the problem of unintentional movement.   So I thought it was supposed to work that way...

My E545 came with a rounded Trackpoint head. I want a concave one. I cannot find one or figure out how to order one. Do they exist? Where can I order it? Thanks.

Answer:Concave Trackpoint for E545

Good day.

Have a look at: http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/pd013643
I presume you're looking for the soft-rim type? When I searched the accessories page, I only came up with the soft-dome type, so you might want to call or chat with Sales. The number and link are at the top of the linked Sales page.

I've also seen 3rd-party sources, but I can't vouch for the quality or authenticity.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
