I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not sure, but I think that this answer, about enabling multi-stream solved the problem https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Audio-coming-from-headphone-and-speaker...

Recently bought a new headset, Gioteck Ex-05 to be exact. Everything looks fine considering the product and all, but when I FIRST plugged it in it automatically did it's routine with installing the headset driver. Afterwards, my speaker icon in my tray got an X.

Solutions that I've tried but ended up failing:

Reinstalling Headset Driver
Restarting my computer
Reinstalling my Realtek Codec
Reinstalling my NVIDIA High Definition Audio Codec
System Restoring my computer
It's literally just the headset when I plug it in, my earphones work perfect. I have yet to use another headset, this is my first one for this computer.

Answer:Bought a new headset, plugged it in, no speakers or headphones plugged in?

What OS is it? Have you tried going into the control panel>sound & make sure MUTE is not checked?

Hi, I bought a new headset today, identical to that of my sister, which is very loud ( in a good way). So, when I plugged the set to my speakers I was disappointed because it was lower than that of my sister's. But then I thought to plug it to front green panel of the unit and boom!!! the sound was crystal-clear as my sister's. The question is: why that happens and how can receive the same amount of volume from both inputs?

Answer:My headset has low volume when plugged in speakers

If you plug it into a jack on the speakers, the speaker system determines the volume. When you plug it into the headphone jack on the PC the sound chip and system volume control determine the volume.

The Impedance of the headset can also affect volume level.

I cannot, for the life of me, get my speakers to mute as they should, when I insert my headset jack (one for the mic and one for hearing).
I have googled everywhere. Left a request on their "support" board, nothing. I keep reading about Realtek hd audio manager, but it does not seem to be installed on my computer.
I have a Satellite laptop C50D - A - 13G
On a sidenote, the keybaord is genuinely, really rally, unbelievably poor, sorry for the typos.Very very very diappointed by Tohiba on this one.

Answer:Speakers do not mute when headset jack plugged in

In control panel do you have Realtek Audio Manager? If so try this, open the manager and in the speaker tab you should see " Device advanced settings", click on that and tick the button for "Mute the rear output device, when a front headphone is plugged in".

Hi, I'm having a really bazzare problem with both my pc and my blackberry I'm hoping someone out there will know what's causing it. I got a new blackberry for christmas and tried using the headset that came with it ,, the sound came from the speakers on the blackberry and only though one side of the headset. In an effort to troubleshoot weather the problem was the headset or the blackberry I plugged the headset into my audiojack on my laptop ( which had been working perfectly not 5 miniutes earlier) I had the same results with the laptop,, sound blasted though the speakers and though the headphones. thinking now that it was simply a problem with the headset I unplugged the blackberry headphones and plugged in my usual pc headphones and tried to listen to music again,,only the sound started blasting though both the speakers and the headphones again. ever since I plugged the blackberry headphones into the pc it doesn't matter what headphones I try in the pc I get the same results. I have no idea how a set of headphones could possibly have done this,, if anyone has any ideas I would really appriciate some feedback ,,TY Ty !!

Hey all,

My headset doesn't work at all when I plug it into the rear or front USB ports on my computer. Strangely enough, it works fine when I plug it into the USB port on my keyboard. It's not a problem with the ports on my motherboard -- everything else I plug into them works perfectly. I know my headset is receiving power when plugged into those ports because the lights on the volume selector switch on, and it's being detected by the system and shows up in the sound panel and everything. For some reason, though, it just does not play any sound through the headphones and won't transmit out of the microphone. Any ideas as to what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks.

Hey,

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

Answer:Problem with USB-headset(Can't switch between headset and speakers without rebooting)

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

Set up - Soundblaster Audigy Gamer. Latest Drivers 2.18.0017
USB headset Latest Drivers.
Speakers Set to Default audio device.

So I installed the new headset, and that works fine.
Also the speaker are set to the default sound device.
So Vista recognizes that there is audio and shows the audio levels fluctuating in the Audio Console.

But there is no sound coming out the speakers. And any device set to use the USB headset works fine, as if everything is set up correctly.

So what could be wrong? I have updated every driver and messed with every setting, I even checked the bios. It states the speakers are working just fine and still no sound. (I also checked all connections to the speakers and tested them on another computer they are operational)

Thanks in advance

Answer:USB Headset works, Speakers dont.

This suggestion is so lame, I'm almost embarassed to make it --- except that it worked for me, so here you go: Have you tried shutting down your system and rebooting after you using your headset? Many systems are set up to require that you have to do that in order to get the sound back to your system's speakers.

I'm using an Asus 2 in 1 flipbook or whatever it's called.

It only has one port for an auxiliary input for headphones/mic (on my laptop it's labeled as a mic port). I can't use my iphone headphones to speak with and I can't use my turtle beach x12s because I need both headphone and mic inputs (along with the usb port).

Is there an adapter out there I can use? If so, which one is the right one?

Hello everybody

I know this question has been asked many many many times but after spending a fair amount of hours trying to find a solution, after trying each and every suggestion i have found on other posts.. i cant solve my microphone problem and it is for that that i seek your help.

Here is my problem : I cant get the hearset microphone ( Trust GHS 303) to work. It is always the integrated one that is used.

I have tried to update the drivers, i have verified that the headset works in my desktop and it does
noting is muted and all volumes are at the max.

I had Realtek installed and i tried that popular solution of going to the advance settings on the yellow folder... and blah blah but problem is that doesnt matter wich version of Realtek i install.... i can get the damn folder nor the advance settings....

As you can see when i go to the recording devices it says the mic is not plugged in ( even when it does) additionally when i have Realtek installed this option that now is grey doesnt even show

I dont know what else to try. Does any of you maybe know how can i get the mic to be detected so i can use it as default?

Many thanks in advance

Hello all,

I am on laptop using Windows 7 home premium 64bit. There is sound when nothing is plugged into the audio jack, but when something is plugged, there is no sound.

I am using also Kubuntu on the same laptop, and the sound works perfectly even when a headset is plugged in the audio jack. So apparently the problem is with the driver.
Also the headset does not appear in my Playback devices at all (neither as disabled/disconnected) (although a notification comes up when I plug a headset in saying that something was plugged into it).

I've been searching for this problem for a long time, and could not find a solution for it.
I tried downloading the driver from dell.com, I even tried re-installing windows all along. Nothing works.

After using windows for the first time after re-installing it, the headset worked properly (even without the official driver installed), but it stopped working upon a restart, which is when I tried installing the driver from dell.com which didn't work.

Please help, this problem is driving me crazy..!
Thanks a lot,
rand

Answer:No sound when headset is plugged in

If you mean there is no speaker sound when a headset is plugged in, that is the normal configuration. Some PC sound systems have an option to either mute or not mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in. Depending on what sound you have and the control panel for it that may or may not be an option.

There is a Dell "N"5030 and an "M"5030. Which do you have?

I'm trying to make calls from my laptop using a headset and I noticed the built-in mic is still picking up audio along with the headset mic (the laptop speaker disables properly however and I can hear audio through the headset speaker). People are saying I sound like I'm talking from the bottom of a well but I've used this headset on a laptop without a built-in mic so I know the headset is fine. I've gone into Windows 7 configuration (click the speaker icon on the bottom right in the notification bar), and clicked into everything to try to have it disable when I plug the headset mic in (it's pink), and all tests show the built-in mic is still picking up audio. Muting anything mutes all mics. My Windows 7 is non-OEM, though everything else works fine, so Lenovo doesn't have any special software for it and I'm not finding anything like that from the hardware or driver maker's sites. Any recommendations there? Am I missing something? I figured it would handle this automatically, but I can't find a configuration that works here.

Answer:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

I have a Logitech USB headset that when plugged into the USB port when a video is playing (esp. AMC - Something More) I hear nothing and must reload the webpage in order to hear it. It is not this way on any YouTube vids and on the majority of sites, but true for DailyMotion, Vimeo and amctv. Adobe Flash is the plugin used for all of the above. Something I can check or is this normal behavior?

Your audio driver software most likely starts up something when it detects something new has been connected. Make sure your drivers are working properly, or disable the auto detection.

Greetings, everyone.

I've searched far and wide for a solution to this problem, but with no luck. So I'm placing my bets on this forum, hope you can help me resolve this.

I recently bought Bluetooth PRIME headphones by Ms Industrial Ltd. and tried to connect them to my laptop using a Bluetooth adapter with Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba drivers. The headphones are easily detected, but it seems that every time I try to establish a connection between them and my laptop, Bluetooth Assistant prompts me with a message:

Your Bluetooth sound device isn't your default device. Please review your sound device settings.

And opens up a window of those settings with audio devices currently in use, only to show me this:

Headset
Bluetooth Audio Device
Not Plugged In

Trying to play music but only the laptop speakers are giving off sound.

No other errors are present. Troubleshooting didn't help. The properties are stating that the device is working properly and the headphone's LED is indicating a successful connection. All of my drivers are updated, I even checked them with several updating software. I've had a Canyon Bluetooth headset before and it was working fine. The Bluetooth connection works perfectly with my smartphone, no errors there. What could be causing this problem then?

Answer:Bluetooth Headset Not Plugged In Error

Hi SaiFai and welcome,

I have a bluetooth headset for my Intel NUC in my living room and always seem to find connecting a bit more of a pain than I thought it should be.

What I usually have to do is right click the little bluetooth icon at the bottom right of my taskbar. Once in that it gives me two options. One for music listening and the other for Voip calls. I always have to choose which one I am going to be doing. For some reason i can't select a option to "Do all"...

Now I also have to go in to "Playback devices" via the "Speakers" icon in the taskbar. But only sometimes. Basically once I have connected through the Bluetooth options menu it doesn't always recognise properly. So this is why I have to go in to sound options to set default device to the headset otherwise everything is still defaulted to my Realtek soundcard. But on other occasions it will default itself to the headset

Hello.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the speakers on and working, but also have headphones plugged in too?

Basically, I want to set up Teamspeak to run on just the headphones/mic. I know it is possible to choose what device TS comes out of (speakers/headphone/etc.). But I want TS to to be the only thing that runs on the headphones.

In addition to this, I would like my speakers to be working at the same time, with everything but TS running off of them.

For those who know, it's the same setup as the headset on the Xbox 360. It only handles people talking in multiplayer, but the game you are playing still comes from the TV speakers.

Is this possible at all?

I am running Vista Ultimate x64, I have the speakers plugged in the motherboad, and my headphone/mic plugged into the sockets on the front on my PC case.

Answer:Headset/Mic + Speakers Together?

I thought I would take the opportunity to bump this by saying that I have had a look into it, and I think if I buy a headset with a USB adaptor on it, they have a soundcard built into them, so I can plug that into my computer and use that as a 2nd soundcard just for the mic.

With that in mind, I purchased this on Ebuyer.com, I think it should suit my needs.

Good Afternoon!

Firstly I need to say I am running ME.

I got a fabulous new headset for Christmas this year ~ Cyber Acoustics USB headset with microphone....They work great; however, I can only use my speakers when I disconnect the headphones...is there a way I can set my computer up to allow me the option to use one or the other without crawling under my desk to disconnect the headphones? (am anxiously awaiting a new computer with front end usb ports...would make life alot easier!)

I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Answer:Headset vs. Speakers

Try control panel - sounds and audio - Audio tab.

Under the "sound playback" setting, you may be able to manually select which device to use (I can in Windows XP)

Exact wording may differ in ME, have not got it installed to advise.

i have recently bought a headset to use with skype.
it has 2 jackplug connectors 1x Mic and 1 x headphone.
currently my 5.1 surround speakers are connected to my soundcard at the back of my tower by 2 colour coded jacks (green and pink)
the only way i can seem to get my headset to work it to disconnect my speakers altogether and plug in my headset ...access to the back of my tower is a pain to put it mildly so this cannot be the only option to switch between speakers and headset....please advise it is doing my head in...thanks in advance.

Answer:headset and speakers

Do you have the green and pink connectors on the front of your tower also? Are these not working?

As the laptop has only one audio jack, I'm using a converter to connect my headset to the laptop (I have checked and it is the correct type of converter). While the audio goes through it, the laptop doesn't actually show it to be connected anywhere (mic or output is not shown to be connected at all).

I know this sounds like a stupid question per the title....of course the sound quality will change with a different headset... the problem is the quality is still different after going back to my original headset.

I was having a dandy time with a wireless headset but it went out of power so temporarily plugged in a new cheaper one I bought off ebay. I didn't install any drivers for it. Anyway, since I plugged it in the sound quality has definitely changed. It seems higher quality, like a much deeper surround sound (although I definitely had surround sound enabled originally for gaming), I am hearing sounds from one channel only when before it was in both. The problem is that it seems to have more sounds in the left channel which is infuriating. I went back to original headset, and the exact same problem is now there.

I have tested with spotify, itunes, netflix, sound is different on all of them.

I have also changed sound to stero in options, it makes absolutely zero difference.

It is sort of like my computer enabled a fancy filter which auto-surrounds sound which is not surround at source, and now I can't turn it off.

I uninstalled the software for my original headset so as far as I know I now have no software/drivers installed for sound at all.

Please help!!

Hi, I have a new Zbook 15 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. When I plug my earbuds or any type of headset (I've tried several different kinds to make sure) into the headset jack, I get no sound at all throught the headset. Also, I noticed that when I bring up the screen for Playback, it only shows an option for Speakers. I do not see any option for the headset - I think it should have one called Communication Headset? I'm not sure if this is a driver issue or something else. I've check existing audio drivers for updates and all say that the latest drivers are installed. I've been unable to find any other post with the same issue. The speakers work fine. I just am unable to get any sound out of the headset port. Any ideas or solutions? Thanks!

I have the exsact same problem! I shouldn't have to google Headphones "'plugged in, but speakers are still playing sound'". This is **bleep**ing ridiculous. I have been lumped with this piece of **bleep** hp zbook (which cost a fortune may i add)  for work and stupid **bleep**ing windows and things as simple as the **bleep**ing headphone jack i have to find a **bleep**ing work around! I was trying so hard to embrace windows but between microsoft and hp you could not make a decent laptop if your children s lives depended on it !!!!GIVE ME BACK MY MAC! However since im stuck with this for the time being a fix for this issue would be great!

I would like a usb headset to function at the same time as a pair of speakers. The speakers plug into a 3.5mm jack. And I would also like a microphone, that plugs into a jack, to function at the same time as the microphone on the headset. I have Windows 7. My intention is to allow another person, with whom I am talking on Skype, to hear audio of a video that I will play. There are Youtubes on the subject, but they have not helped me.

I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Answer:Using a headset and speakers at the same time

Have you considered using the swap screen function in Skype? It allows the person you're chatting with to view your computer screen and (I could be wrong) hear its audio.

I would like to hook up a headset with my speakers on my desk top PC.

There are 3 holes on the back, (one pink--I think Mic,) ( One green, I think audio out,) and (one blue- I think audio in.) On the back on the pc.

The headset has two cords on it. One is labeled Mic.

When I was trying to read how to have both my speakers and headset connected, it said I need a Y adapter. I have one.

But now I can't find out how to use the adapter with the mic cords and the plug-in sites on the pc.

I tried just hooking the headset to the front of the unit, but nothing happened. So, I guess I need to hook it up through the rear of the PC.

I no idea what to do.

Answer:Install Speakers and Headset

Hi debo and welcome to the forum

If the headset has two chords, as you say, them mic = pink and the other (speakers) = green
Blue = aux in
Also check the mixer volume control to make sure that the mic is not muted. Sometimes it is.
You were correct as you stated above

Here's my problem.

I have speaker that I use for music and a USB headset for games.

I'd like to make it so I can just turn the volume down on one and just use the other for what I desire, instead I have to open my sound settings and switch the default every time.

Any solutions?

Answer:Trying to run a USB headset and Speakers at same time

ok so u want to be able to listen to music through the headset while your speakers are on as well?
theres the problem
your computer has one audio out (which is hooked to your speakers) the reason the usb mic works is when that out is disabled it goes to your next default, your usb port.
so basically sound can only come out of one place at one time from ur comp.
i hope i helped

I want to permanently set certain programmes to use my headset instead of the default speakers but I'm unsure of how to do this.Eg: I always want ventrillo to output sound through my headset while my default setup is for my speakers to be used.

Answer:speakers/headset configuration

I'm not sure if that can be done but if it can I would first check each software application for custom settings. Next you may want to check the sound card hardware settings to allow applications to take control of the sound card settings. You can access the sound card setting by right clicking on the speaker icon on the taskbar...all the best,myspace.com/davedeveloper

Hello..

I have a hp laptop, and i have a problem when im using my headset.

I can use the headset for music and gaming, but the problem is that when, for example, im running Teamspeak and playing CS:GO, the sound from the game comes from my laptop speakers, i find this very annoying since i want to be able to get all the sound through my headset, i've had this problem for a while and nobody knows what i can do about it.

It's the same problem when i use my headset for skype calls, and i want to listen to music or watching a youtube video at the same time, the skype sound comes from my headset and all other sound, music for example comes from my laptop speakers.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Sorry for my english btw

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Go to the Playback settings by right clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right. Then make sure your headset is set to the default playback device.

Okay, I just did a re-install of Windows XP. I got everything all set up, I had a snag with my sound but I finally got it sorted out. But, now I have a new problem and I can't figure it out.

My speakers, (JBL Creature Speakers) work fine. I have a USB headset. There is a button on my Speakers that when you press it, the sound goes from the speakers to the headset, so if I want to be on Skype or something I can have privacy. However, whenever I press the button, there is no sound on the headset. I've tried looking around control panel and what not, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I'm sorry if that was really bland, or if you need more information, if you do, just post and I'll try to be more detailed.

Thank you.

Answer:Sound through speakers, but not through headset.

Hi Brennen, welcome to TSF.

Are you sure you have installed the software and drivers.
USB devices such as what you describe often need drivers or software for Windows to recognise it, and the features they have - i.e sending sound to headset at the push of a button.

It's common in the OS installs to forget such things, so I'd like you to rule this out first.

Hi, now I am not too sure if this is the correct section for this to go in as it may fall under hardware too.

I am wanting to be able to use my headset on Skype at the same time as playing music through pc speakers. I have a Sound Blaster X-fi fatal1ty. Now with this soundcard you get a little drive bay, like this http://www.aimcomputer.ca/images/Creative_FiTFC.jpg , as most of you may of seen before.

Anyway I plug my headset into the slots onto that bay and use a usb mic I bought separately as the mic, when using Skype. However I am somehow looking to be able to play music on my computer, at the same time as using Skype, just with the music coming out of my computer speakers and NOT the headset. I have read a couple of dated forums where some people have said it is possible but sadly I couldn?t follow their instructions.

I was hoping that somebody here may be able to shed some light on this issue or possibly come across if themselves so can advise me on what is best to do.

Also, I am running Windows 7 (32bit)

Thanks in advance,

Luke

Initially i looked up a way to use both Speakers and a headset at the same time without having to unplug and plug them in each time i wanted to switch. The first and quite popular answer i got was to use some sort of Y connector.

After searching some more i was able to find another answer which was to put in the speakers into the Green jack and put the headset into the Orange jack (for audio with mic in pink ofc).

This worked brilliantly.

Problem now is that, it is not working for me anymore, kinda...

So the speakers in the green jack work but the headset audio wont work at the same time..... BUT i downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager just to try and fiddle with stuff (not that good with settings and advanced user stuff but thought id mess around with some simple things), and i found out that when i did the AUTO TEST, i was able to hear through my headset ... but JUST for the test and for no other time.

Firstly let me say that i have upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and added 4 Gb of RAM (total of 6now). Hopefully that might help.

So is it possible that anyone might no a solution? I will try and provide more information if necc. if asked. Thanks for the time and effort.

idc if you use computer jargon because i have my A+ Essentials.

Answer:audio out of both headset/speakers

Check the audio properties first : start => run => mmsys.cpl. Check all the settings there : advanced settings, speakers volume, ... In the playback control tab click options => advanced to have more options.

Have you tried unplugging/replugging your headset and speakers ? Does some program popup when you plug the speakers (soundmax of whatever) ? If so check the settings in that program as well.

Is this on an XP system ? You profile says you have Vista.

Then, I went to Skype some more later and I could hardly hear the other person through the headset. I have checked all my settings and they seem correct. But, I get garbled sound from the speakers and low sound from the headset.

As of about one year ago the audio system in my computer was working fine. My speakers were hooked up to my Creative Soundblaster Live Series audio card and they were working properly.

But at that time I decided to buy a headset so I could talk to my friends online through programs such as Ventrilo. Since I also have a Playstation 2, I bought one of the Logitech Playstation 2 Headsets that connect by USB.

I hooked up the headset and after a little playing around (restarts) I got the headset to start working. I used the headset for the new half a year before I realized there was a problem with the computer. Whenever I would unplug the headset, the speakers would not work. I checked everything: changing default devices under the audio and voice settings, checking to make sure the speakers were plugged in properly, restarting the computer without the headset then plugging the speakers in, restoring the audio card's default settings, etc.*

However, after this entire year I have still not managed to get the speakers back and working again. I pondered that the speakers may have died, but I hooked them up to another computer and they work fine.

The reason why I have dealt with this problem is because I had no real reason to get rid of the headset and a computer with speakers was not that big of a hassle. But now I won't be using the computer anymore and the future user will more than likely want the speakers to work. And I do not want to hook the he... Read more

Would anyone know of a way that I could leave my headset plugged into the computer and toggle the output sound to external speakers or the headset?

The computer itself is in a room where some else might be watching television. Of course, I can find my headset and plug them to keep the sound from coming out of the external speakers, but instead of this constant plug in/out a toggle of some sort would be quicker.

Thanks.

Is there a way to configure my sound card to accept both audio outputs and choose from winsows (10) which 1 i want - can this even be done? do i need a new sound card or perhaps a audio slitter ??

Morning Chaps, I've received one of those headsets for PC thingies, which works fine - I can now make phone calls via the PC. Thing is though, as I've plugged it into the sound card on the back of the tower, I don't now get the sound(of music for example, no! NOT The Sound Of Music the movie...)through the speakers. So, is there maybe a 'doubler' connector as it's a bit of a pain having to scrabble around behind the tower to disconnect the headset plugs when I wanna listen to music. Ta muchley,AngeTheHippyxx

Basically i want to know what will be best, a decent set of headphones(must have a mic) or some 5.1 speakers. I would probarbly spend about £80(around $105).
I want to know how to spend that money, weather i should spend almost all of it on some nice speakers and then buy a cheapy headset, or spend like £50 on some nice headphones and then £30 on a avarege(probarbly 2.1) speakers? or somewhere in the middle? I could get both but then i would be spending a lot less on the speakers, is a decent 2.1 set or a cheap 5.1 set better?

I will be playing quite a lot of games(mostly what the pc will be built for) and i will also be listening to music frquently, I will also be watching a few movies.

The headsets i was thinking of are the sennheiser 130,135,150 or 155(do any of these sort of close your ear into them rather than sitting on your ear?) Is there any difference between the 0 and 5 models apart from the usb thing?

Where should my money be spent?

Answer:Decent Headset or 5.1 speakers

i would personally buy headphones, because everybody in my house gets ****ed off if my speakers are even quiet. So headphones are better in my case.

If you get some Sennheiser or Sony headphones, they should be good.

Make sure they are the huge ear-muff kind, because the bass is trapped inside your ears, so its better sound.

Answer:Problem with Speakers/Headset

Sorry for the Double post but this is a slightly major update for me :

Playing more with the Realtek HD audio settings, i checked the Disable Front Panel detection (fine because i dont use anything there (doesnt work i dont think)). After this i was able to hear out of the headset but it was verryy soft.

Next i went and checked Speaker Fill... Immediately i could hear normally out of my headset but only out of 1 "ear." Checking the settings it seemed that the Orange port was for the Center/Subwoofer speakers and the left "ear" corresponded to the Center Speaker while the Right was for the Subwoofer. If i ticked the Swap Center / Subwoofer Output it does just that and both ears swap so i can hear perfectly out of the right (Subwoofer) but not the left.

Amused and happy with the progression i tried plugging the headset into the Black jack (Rear Speakers). For this one the left rear was the left ear and right was right.

Tried it and for the Auto Test it worked perfectly but when i went to normal music/audio the sound WOULD come out of both sides BUT it would be heavily distorted. (Same problem with trying the Side speaker jack (Grey)).

So 2 ways to progress now would be to fix the distortion or to enable the Center/Subwoofer to work simultaneously or something like that (possible to compl. Disable the Center OR Subwoofer so audio comes to both ears?).

Thanks for all the help and hopefully we can solve it fully!

USB headphones = Logitech Clearchat Pro

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/we.../3622&cl=US,EN

Drivers = standard vista usb audio drivers v 6.0.6002.18005

I have spoke to several other vista users with various USB headphones and it seems to be a consistent problem.

The problem is that vista is recognizing my headphones as:
"speakers
4 - logitech USB Headset
working"

This means that when opening the properties, vista only offers the standard 2 speaker enhancements rather then the headphone ones. Also, all applications auto set the audio configuration for 2-speakers rather then headphones. This means it doesnt offer HRTF, as stated from Audio Innovations in Windows Vista - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog:
"This function can only be enabled by indicating that the user is listening with headphones, as shown in the following screen shot."

any/all suggestions welcome, and thanks for the input

Hello,

I recently upgraded to Windows 8. Previously on Windows 7 I was able to switch between speakers and USB headset on the fly by clicking "set device as default" in windows sound options, without closing media player.

Now that I'm on Windows 8, I can't do that anymore: whenever I make another device default, there is no sound.

Is there anything I need tick or change in order to get ability to switch between listening devices again?

Hi there!

I've just finished building my first PC, but I have some sound problems.
I want to have my speaker set as the main audio output, so I've plugged it in the back of the PC, in the audio outlet of the motherboard (Gigabyte G1.Sniper B5). But when I play a game, I want to use my headset, so I plug it in the front of the PC, into the audio outlet of the case itself (CM 690 III).
When I plug in only the headphones or only the speaker set, there is no problem at all. But when I plug in both, things get weird. The audio switches correctly to the headphones, but then stops after a few seconds, and when I take out the headphones plug, the sound doesn't return to the speakers. This happens both in games and on YouTube videos (page refresh doesn't help either). However, the "test this audio device"-sound from Windows does play when I test it, so.. yeah...

Can anyone help me set this up correctly? I would be very grateful!!

Nick

Answer:Headset / speakers conflict

Welcome to the Win 8 forum.

Sounds like a possible problem with the case front panel jacks or cabling. Many cases have two audio plugs for the front panel headphone/mic jacks, an "AC97" and an "HD Audio" connectors. Use the HD Audio Connector.

But, it still sounds like a problem with the front panel jacks or cabling.

I've built several desktop PC's and have had problems with several front panels.

Also, please fill in the "My System Specs". Helps us to try and help you.

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance

My Xbox setup is pretty funky. I have the Xbox in my office, which shares a wall with the family room (where the TV/Home Audio lives). When I want to watch a movie, I plug in the TV's HDMI cable and enjoy a movie in the family room. When I want to game, I plug a different HDMI cable into the Xbox that is hooked up to a gaming monitor.
Because of this, I have a Kinect device that is in a different room that is always attached. Now that we have Cortana, I'd finally like to be able to say Hey Cortana, Record That! while I'm gaming, but for some reason, Cortana won't listen to me through my chat headset. Can you have the Kinect plugged in and still use the headset for commands?
I've already tried disabling the "Use the Kinect for chat" checkbox, that did nothing. Cortana still only listens via the Kinect.

There is no way to make it ring loud when the headset is till plugged in.
No one usually leaves a phone around with the headset still on.
Anyway the only option for you is to keep the phone somewhere where the display is visible.

My headset's mic only works if the whole headset itself is close to the audio jacks. This NEVER happened until today when I enabled stereo mix. I realized my mic wasn't working so I disabled stereo mix and now my mic only works if the headset is close to the audio jacks. My headset is some weird one from Japan so none of you know what the model or manufacturer is but it works...well...used to work.

Two things might have happened.

1) My mic was damaged while stereo mix was enabled at some point. (Unlikely, headset was on my head all day.)
2) Stereo mix f'ed up my headset.

I uninstalled and reinstalled my realtek sound drivers, didn't help much. I can only talk to my pals on skype if my face is right up to my tower. Anyone got some ideas? If not I'll just have to spend a good 40 bucks on a Microsoft Lifechat 3000, which I'm skeptical about. Someone that has it let me know.

Hello All,
*Sorry for the long post, I tried to include everything I have tried and seen regarding this issue...

I have a Plantronics USB Headset that I have used many many times on this Windows 7 Guest OS, for things like the Cisco IP Communicator. This has worked just about everytime I have connected it to the Win7 VM without problems until a few weeks ago
(*not sure exactly when or what caused it to start doing this).
Once the USB headset is connected to the VM the speaker Icon in the notification area of the taskbar gets a red X thrown over it, and hovering the mouse over it, it says
"No Output Audio Device is Installed". If I unplug the Headset the red "X" disappears from the speaker icon instantly.. However, sounds through the regular speakers seem to work just fine
(*i.e. sounds from the Win7 VM) whether the headset is connected or not.

If I right click the speaker icon with the X and go to the Playback Devices menu
(*screenshot below), I can see my Speakers and the Headset listed there. Right-clicking the laptop speaker icon and clicking
"Test" successfully tests the speakers and I can hear the sounds from the laptop's speakers. Then, doing the same for the headset does nothing, don't hear anything. Also, ... Read more

I have two audio jacks in the back of my computer. I just bought a headset today and no sound is coming through them and I just want to be able to play sound through the speakers and the headset at the same time. I'm using windows 7. Can someone please walk my through the steps and help me with this! Thank you!

Answer:Hooking up my Speakers and Headset at the same time?

Depends on your PC and what audio I/O jacks you have. The GREEN jack is the Speaker (or can be used for headset or line out). If there is a second Speaker/Line out jack you could use that, however most new systems only have extra output jacks for surrond systems and that won't do you any good.

If you have a headphone jack on the front of the PC, and again depending on what you have, some systems have a sound control panel and allow configuring either both the front headphone and rear speaker are both active or the headphone jack cuts off the rear speaker (usually the default mode).

Post some system specs, or better yet fill in the My System Specs so we know what we are dealing with.

Hey all!

I am trying to get my headset (which plugs into the Front-Green-Out) to work along side of my speakers (which plug into my Rear-Green-Out).

Both are being recognised and both work, but not at the same time. That's because in the screen where you manage your Audiodevices you can only have 1 "standarddevice", which it uses to play the audio.

Is there any way to have more than 1 standarddevice? (or another way to make both work at the same time).

EDIT:
By the way, for anyone using the same motherboard as me: Asus is not supporting it anymore =/. I use the P5K-EPU sounddrivers. Also, if you want the front jacks to work you have to set them in the BIOS to AC97, not HD-audio.

Answer:Front headset and speakers at the same time?

I know on mine when I plug into the front panel it disables my rear inputs. I don't think there is a way to do that using the same driver. What I do though is use a sound card for my speakers/monitors and use the onboard for my headset. I have WMP set to my sound card so I can listen to DVD/music through my monitors while gaming through my headset simultaneously. Helps when the Mrs is scrapbooking and wants to listen to music.

I just got a new headset, the logitech G330, since the side jacks on my tower don't seem to work, im using the USB adapter it came with. It works great, just one tiny issue.. The sounds that the mic picks up are routed through the headset speakers, so I hear my breathing, my voice, how do I disable that?

Answer:Mic sounds coming through headset speakers

Go into Control Panel\Sound on the "Recording" tab click "Microphone" then Properties, then click on the "Listen" tab and Make suer that "Listen to this device" is uncheaked.

Hi all, Hopefully there is someone that could support me. Since yesterday there is no sound coming from my laptop anymore, not through the internal speakers nor when I plug in a headset in the audiojack.  I've tried to uninstall/reinstall the drivers, disabling/enabling them and a hard reset. Nothing seemed to have worked. No changes have been made to the laptop in the recent weeks. One thing I noticed though is that I only have HP Wireless Audio Adapter and not the IDT high defination audio anymore in the device manager.Anyone some more tips?

Ok, so I bought a nice USB Headset, it works GREAT. But, I would like to be able to use the speakers when I turn the headset off. Is there any option for this in Windows 7?
Everything I've seen so far says that the headphones/headset has to be wired, and then when the computer recognizes that you have unplugged it, then it will switch to the speakers.
Thanks in advance guys.

Answer:[SOLVED] Switching from USB Headset to speakers

Why would you want to leave the headset playing while you listen to the speakers, wouldn't they be slightly out of sync as they go through different decoding processes, resulting in the sound getting confused?

I can't seem to get rid of an awful background noise when I have the volume turned up. When I connect the headset to use the mike for internet phoning I have the same problem. When I say I have the volume up, I mean turned on but not playing anything through the speakers.I've gone into the sound system to see if I could adjust it by changing the volume levels etc. but it doesn't seem to work. The only way to stop it is to turn the volume virtually off on the PC (acer laptop)which means you can't hear any sound at all. When you play music the sound is ok, the speakers seem to be set to the correct levelOperating system is Vista and the PC is an Acer aspire 5630.

Answer:problems with internal speakers/headset

Turn down the mic gain control as causeing feedback with the speakers and headsetYou will have to adjust the volume control and the mic control untill you get a good mix where you can here and the other party can here youAlso check the options in the sound setting in control panel playback/recording if any mic boost is switch on

Hello fellow community, I've been having trouble since about 2 days back, my headset and my speakers worked just fine till i shut the computer down for the night. then the following morning there was just no sound, I kinda tried everything these days but nothing works...Anyway, I got a steelseries 3h VR headset and some kind of speakers, I know that they both work ( I tried it on my dads computer) so there's no problem with them i guess. I got windows home premium 64bit, Please post on this thread if you think you might know the problem!
