Windows update KB2459268 from Lenovo Software update broke my X230 on RDP/ sleep I think

Question: Windows update KB2459268 from Lenovo Software update broke my X230 on RDP/ sleep I think

Backstory: I finally got around to performing some updates on my X230 that I usually keep on internal LAN running machines. It has Win 7 Pro SP1 installed and I checked the update for KB2459268 through Lenovo's recommended software update at the time and thought nothing of it when everything installed and updated properly. Restarting my machine and RDP to a host and everything worked as normal. Then putting the X230 to sleep and.... the screen went off like normal, the power button did the usual beating light like normal, but the computer did not sleep! It kept running and worst yet, did not respond whatsoever to ANY keyboard input, ctrl alt del, esc, power button, nothing!!! I finally had to force shutdown and figured, probably a glitch. Did the same process again and yep, it seemed to sleep. Woke it up, tried it again, and sure enough, same issue (no sleep and no response). I kept getting the same issue for the next week so finally I did a clean install with Win 7 SP1 on a wiped drive, ran the lenovo software update with the KB checked, and tried it again. SAME ISSUE!!!! Now I was sure it wasnt a driver issue, and probably not hardware (I guess it could be). So I uninstalled the KB from programs and features yesterday and the 4x times I used it, no issue. Leads me to think there is something going on with the KB. How to replicate:Install KB. Log into an RDP server using the X230. Issue sleep command via FN+F4 or close lid (I always use FN+F4 as I set my closed lid to do nothing). Watch computer appear to sleep (power button flashes like its sleeping and display is off), but computer remains on.

Preferred Solution: Windows update KB2459268 from Lenovo Software update broke my X230 on RDP/ sleep I think

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows update KB2459268 from Lenovo Software update broke my X230 on RDP/ sleep I think

The KB2459268 is Microsoft hotfix (not a regular important update) A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. Uninstall it. It is 5 years old so it might be already resolved by a regular update. Do not install everything Lenovo offers, select individual updates only.

I have an E525, which I bought several years ago. I have reinstalled Windows and other operating systems several times.A couple of days ago, I realised my webcam drivers on windows were incapable of capture, so I installed the Lenovo software update utility and ran it. In order, it broke:The RPC server depended on byThe sound serverThe windows power managerThe Lenovo power managerThe battery (yes, THE PHYSICAL BATTERY)ItselfFailing to repair the damage (the update manager now refused to run), I reinstalled Windows, which fixed all but the battery. However, not having a working battery is rather inconvenient. The update manager now seems unable to flash the battery ROM, and I have no idea how I can fix this. My battery is the same battery that came with the device.

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you've had difficulties.
If you think that reflashing the battery firmware will help, you might try the stand-alone installer rather than TVSU:

I did the clean install, set the bios correctly, enabled secure boot, installed with no problems at all, however after installation of system update, it cant find any updates, all other software and drivers are still missing. Hi. Apologies in advance if I am posting incorrectly or in the wrong place; I hate to be "that guy" invading a forum. I emailed Lenovo for help, but they told me to come here. I own a Lenovo X230 laptop. It is not the tablet version. The problem: It cannot/will not sleep anymore. If I shut the lid (which I have set to put it to sleep), or manually try to make it sleep in Windows, the screen goes black, and then appears to "hang up" (for example, I can still hear the fan running). It will stay like this until I hold down the power button and hard shut it off. I have done a clean install of Windows, and updated the graphics drivers, and this problem still persists.  I am 95% (nearly certain) that this problem started when I updated my BIOS to 2.63. "No problem," I thought to myself, "I"ll just roll back to a previous version of the BIOS." Nope. Apparently, for "security reasons," you cannot roll back from 2.63. This problem is driving me nuts, because a huge part of having a laptop for me is the portability, which is completely useless without the ability to sleep. Otherwise, I am left having to constantly turn off and turn on the laptop if I am in a situation where I need to close the cover.  I am also annoyed that I suspect this problem is a result of updating the BIOS. I fully admit I am not completely 110% sure that this is the case, because who can actually tell with certainty, but I really do think that is the cause, as the problem started ha... Read more

Hi,I have an issue with my Lenovo Yoga500 laptop. Until evening of 29.07 it was working fine... turned off the computer at the evening. But when I turned on the computer on morning 31.07 - its keyboard, nor its track pad was working anymore. I was able to log into the computer and check if anything was updated on 29.07 and the only thing which has actually changed between morning 29.07 and morning of 31.07 was Lenovo Settings application which was automatically downloaded and isntalled via Windows update - its current version is 3.169.0.0. The keyboard seems to be in some kind of a hanged state currently - no keys are working on it. The Windows system periodically displays an information "Do You want to turn into tablet mode?" despite the fact that the computer is in its normal opened position. I can turn on and off the keyboard highlight via the Lenovo settings.. but it does not help with non working keys. The last windows update was installed on 12.07 and laptop was working fine until auto-update of the Lenovo Settings. How can I fix this issue?

This may sound kind of strange, after installing a srcurity patch from Windows Update, I restarted the PC , the BIOS was being updated. I had no way of knowing this going happen. After the update the monitor shut off and the PC continued to run. After a hard shutdown and restart nothing, no power indicator, just the fans running. I called Tect support, a Tech will do an on-site repair.

Hello Win10User,

I am sorry to read of your problem. In order for me to understand what happened, I have a few questions:
Are you running Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro?
Was your Windows 10 an upgrade from an earlier OS?
Do you recall exactly which security patch you installed prior to the BIOS being updated?

Anyway... I've been running Adobe CS4 for several years with no issues. I recently discovered some old updates for Premiere, which I downloaded and installed without a hitch. I use Soundbooth for my audio work, so I looked for updates for that, too. Found one, downloaded, installed... and now SB won't boot up. Multiple errors. Have tried many fixes. Rolled back my machine to earlier setup. All other CS4 stuff works, just not SB. Thought I'd just try re-installing it since I still had the files on the hard drive (install stuff), and it gets to "preparing to install" and never gets past it.

Good Day, My Lenovo U41-70 laptop fails to wake up from sleep mode after I lift open the screen lid.The power button does light up and I can hear the system running but the screen is not lighting up nor is it showing anything at all. I always have to end up pressing the Power button for a longer time to force-restart the system. This problem seemed to happen after I updated the system to Windows 10. I would appreciate any advice from Leveno or users of Lenovo who have previously encountered & have the solution(s) to the same problem. Thank you in advance. Regards,Jersine

@All: I am going to get a new T420s in a few days and since I have never owned a TP, I have a couple of questions for more experienced users. I apologize in advance if the questions sound silly, but I am wondering whether Win Update and Lenovo System Update may get in each other's way and mess things up in the system by overwriting drivers, or do they have nothing to do with each other? Also, what about the power management settings? I hear that Lenovo is quite rich in that, so I am wondering whether these can conflict with Windows7 settings and in case which ones should I prefer and how to bypass the other ones? Thanks a zillion.

Answer:[TP Newbie] Windows Update vs Lenovo System Update + Win vs Lenovo Power Management

win. update handles wins. & TVSU handles system software updates & a few win. updates so you need both, TVPM will override win power settings so if you want to use win. just uninstall TVPM but I think TVPM does the job just fine afterall its built for the system

Hi c0ca, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Lenovo's Windows 8 guide is here:

Ok I was getting that blue screen of death error and then used a program called 'Ad Aware' to get rid of it. When I went to shut my computer down it said it had to complete 5 windows updates, so I let it do it...I went off and let my laptop update I came back in about an hour and saw it was turned off so I guessed it finished the updates, anyway I turned back on and when I got got to the logon my mouse was frozen and as I don't have a password I normally just oress enter but nothing was happening and everything was frozen. I tryed pluging in several mouses and none of them worked, I tryed starting it up in safe mode, debugging mode, I looked through the setting and still nothing worked. Then I thought maybe my computer shutdown when doing the updates becuase when I went to restart it 3rd time round it said installying updates 1 of 4 so I let it do them..When I turned my computer back on still nothing mouse and enter was faling for me to do anything! i've tryed everything I could think off but I still cant get pass the logon scree, please help!!!!

I fired up 7 today to be met with no sound. So I tried going into device mangaer. It wouldn't open and gave me a 'failed to create a temporary' something or other. It was a MMC error which goes back to at least Win2K.

I couldn't close several windows, access device mangaer etc, so not being in the mood to try and fix it, I opted for a restore point. I noticed that the most recent restoe point had a Windows Update Installed beside it (I had forgotten to turn off automatic updating )

I selected the next restore point where I knew everything was working and everytings back to normal.

I checked the Updates available and there was one for my Dell Monitor and one for an ATI pre-release driver. I just installed the Dell update and it seems fine. I'm not going to try the ATi driver as i prefer to get drivers from the source and not WU.

Anyone else (especially with ATI cards) have any WU troubles?

I figured I wouldn't have any problems by now .. So I updated to IE8.

Now, IE8 will not access the M$ updates .. The link is wrong.
I also have the same problem in another XP install ..
I don't know if this happened when I updated to IE8 .. Or maybe after I installed other updates.

Since I know the correct link ... I can use FF to update,
But, IE 8 will not let even me paste in the correct link.

Anyone know of any quick fixes ???

I ran windows updates when shutting down last week, no problem.

Same thing today, and now when I turn on my PC after logging in, it instantly turns off. And I actually mean instantly, it is as if I pulled the plug on it. It then often sends my BIOS into a state where it thinks the overclocking failed (which I'm not even doing).

I go into safe mode, or repair and as soon as it actually gets into a user state, same thing. Instantly off. I can't quite figure out what I can do at this point as the available tools seem to be completely useless.

I tried to google the issue, but unfortunately I can't turn up anything relevant.

Has anyone seen anything for this?

Ladies & Gents

Recently I began to update some machines that have not been updated since 2007. They are on winxp pro sp2. At the start I did not know that the win 03 server had the ability to push updates to the clients. So I forced the first one to use the regular windows update site and brought it fully up to date with sp3. All seamed fine.

A few days later it was reported to me that they could not print to one of the printers anymore. So at my next visit I attempted to fix this printer issue. The printer is shared from another client and works just fine. It shows up in the win 03 server, and I can print a test page from it and to it.

When I try to add a printer on the client I get an error message '....unable to add the printer connection, the specified printer has lost its connection to the server.'

This post seem to indicate that the problem may be sp3
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-server/855120-solved-network-printer-problems.html

Any other thoughts?

Most of what google yields is quite dated. One post even has a big log registry hack to follow. I don't really want to go there.

This is the first time I have ever used win 03 server, so.... I am acquainted with 3.0, 95, 98, me, xp and vista. Now I use Debian Linux on every thing.

Thanks in advance

So, I'll go on record saying that Windows 10 is the absolute worst OS ever released by Microsoft.

It just did a self-update and broke my computer. I can no longer log in. I get a black screen with a mouse curser. It's one step down from earlier, where I still got to the password screen and could enjoy watching the circle of dots go round and round forever without logging me in.

F11 to boot menu and choosing C drive gives me a Windows prompt telling me that my Windows 10 version wasn't installed properly (no shit, Sherlock!) and asks me what to do. I have tried choosing repair (can't repair), tried installing a previous version (still get black screen after restart) and now I'm faced with the prospect of having to reset my OS and losing all my programs and files.

So yes, I kinda feel like slapping Microsoft with a class action lawsuit. I didn't ask for this toxic update. It installed itself and broke my system.

To Hell with you, Microsoft!

Answer:Windows 10 update broke my computer.

I have faced something like that, once.

I booted to a USB Win 10 installation drive and ran "repair". The repair was to use a restore point.

After some cleanup, I ran the update again. No problems that time.

Do you have a backup method? If not, it's well past time to acquire one. (At least in the US, an external USB HD costs roughly $100.)

Best of luck.

After updating my computer last night to a new build of Windows 10, a ton of issues cropped up on reboot.
1) Everything was slower, including startup
2) Trying to open the start menu resulted in a blue wheel of death
3) Ctrl+Alt+Del gives a black screen where only the mouse can be seen
4) Only program I can currently launch is file explorer, can't seem to run any .exe's
After rolling back to the previous build, the sluggish startup and login went away but the other isssues persisted. Searching for a fix convinced me this might be a virus issue, but without being able to run any programs I'm at a loss on how to troubleshoot that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - system prompted to Installed updates, rebooted and this is what I see "Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes, Do not turn

I've tried numerous techniques to repair this issue. sfc /scannow DISM.EXE, Delete pending.xml, restarting and entering safe mode produces the same "failure notice"  I'm trying to just run a repair by reinstalling Windows.  Now, I'm receiving
an error that I have to boot into windows to upgrade.  I have a full Windows 7 pro 64 bit install disc and the only option is a clean install.

CURSE YOU MICROSOFT! few hours ago my xps 8900 is working fine then wife called me for dinner and I decided to turn off my PC. It asked me if I want to install the update and shutdown or restart. I choose shutdown. after eating dinner I went back and booted up the machine and asked me for my password. While I was typing I noticed that I was not connected to my network anymore but I still proceeded logging in. After I press enter it just hanged on the looping circle and I was cursing after that. Can't even do control, alt+ del. I have to turn off the PSU. Did the same thing more than 10 times same result. I was ready to hurt somebody.
Good thing I have a backup laptop that has the exact programs and setup as the xps 8900 and good thing my data files are in a network external drive. So I went looking at the web and saw tons of people having problems after the windows update. The dell recovery drive I made does not even want to work and I know it works before as I already did a full recovery with the USB when I did a SSD upgrade. Now I am forced to use a stock windows 10 recovery disk I have to reinstall the OS......this just stinks......so to all of you out there DO NOT UPDATE WINDOW 10 OR GO BACK TO WINDOWS 7! which I am thinking of doing. Good thing Bill Gates is not my neighbor or else I will <deleted> because of this mess.

So i'm looking to get some help/advice. I had a recent upgrade to my windows 10 and for some reason the sound coming out of my speakers now sounds like it's coming from the other side of a long hallway. I can fix this by going into device manager and downgrading my current audio driver but windows seems to keep updating it to the new one which sounds terrible. I can downgrade it, restart my computer and be listening to music when suddenly the sound changes. Any suggestions on preventing windows form updating to the newer driver? Or is there a new driver that fixes this? Any help would be appreciated

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8625 that worked fine until the windows 10 Anniversary update. It is connected via Ethernet. I can print to the printer fine from iphones, etc. so printer is ok.

Windows keeps thinking the printer has gone offline. When I run the troubleshooter, it says the problem is that the printer is "off". It says to turn on the printer. I do nothing to the printer and just hit "next" and the printer starts working again.

Until later, then it does it again. Have rebooted both computer and printer and still has the same issue.

Did you tried to reinstall driver? Remove it from list and add it again.

ok, reasonably new vaio laptop, was working fine, but it was asking constantly if it could install some updates. the popup would say it was rebooting in 5 mins, and it would let you cancel it. eventually, my sister wasn't there to click no, and it rebooted and ran some updates, but it hung during the install of these updates. after which it will not boot past "welcome", even in safe mode.

i'd love it if someone can help me, i have a seriously busy schedule, and this laptop has become quite a problem.

i can't help but be furious, i even tried to get help from microsoft, and they say it's not their problem, and they just say to reinstall. they don't seem even the slightest bit sorry that their forced update broke this laptop.

anyhow, it's xp home with sp2, and i can't get all the technical details of the machine, since i can't boot it and look, but it's really pretty new. if there's anything specific i can answer, let me know.

Answer:[SOLVED] windows update broke this laptop

Hmm... Do you see an error when you try to boot? Does it reboot or shut down? Or just hang?

The last update ruined my dual monitor set up. As soon as the update had finished my second monitor stopped working completely. Restarting the computer will sometimes allow it to work for a few minutes, but the resolution is stuck between 800x600 and 1024x768. I've tried restarting, updating all drivers, deleting and reinstalling drivers and so on.

I got my X230 Tablet recently and want to run it under Windows 8. After upgrading yesterday, the Touch Screen refuses to work: the position is always in the bottom right corner, but clicking is recognized. The effect is that all windows are closed and opened alternately when touching the screen. Quite annoying, in particular as in Windows 8 the Touch screen would be actually very useful. I updates all drivers and bios, as far as possible, but the Touch Screen behavior remained. Somebody suggested that a clean installation of Windows 8 does lead to a well working Touch Screen. I tried it once, but after about two hours of computer work, Windows came back with the message that the installation failed, and thus I stay with my non working Touch Screen. What do I have to do to get my Touch Screen working again? The Wacom Pen is fine, so I can live with the X230 for the time being, but working with my fingers on the screen would be actually nice - and it beats those iBooks by lengths. Who has ideas?

iTunes 12.5x will not install on my Windows 10 desktop. I download the latest iTunes version and then get the error below, multiple times.

I read up on the error. The recommendation to cure the problem was to go to Programs, Uninstall, but instead Repair the Apple Software Update application.

I tried that, right-clicked to Repair ASU, but then I got a message saying that ASU was already uninstalled. I cannot now find Apple Software Update application to re-install it. I've looked all over the Apple and Windows download systems. No luck.

Can anyone help me with this problem ?

Thanks,

Answer:Cannot update/repair or find Apple Software Update for Windows 10

I had problems with Apple Update - see my post 16 at Apple Software Update Server Error

Use the link there to download a version of iTunes containing the version of Apple Update you want. Else you could just download the current version of iTunes if that's the version you want. Use 7 Zip or a similar utility to extract Apple Update from the iTunes .exe file and you can then install the version of Apple Update you want. I never did find a direct download for Apple Update but this workaround works fine.

Hello everyone!

So a couple of weeks ago (I think) I decided to install the Fall Creators Update on my computer. It was already running Windows 10 and everything ran fine. However, when the update installed and the computer rebooted, the Wi-Fi adapter wasn't working. It is an ASUS PCE-AC68. It is worth noting that my setup consists of a small SSD with Windows installed and then a large HDD with all my files on it. There are several directory junctions for certain programs and the Users folder pointing to the large HDD. Just mentioning this in case it's got something to do with this...

So I started looking into it and device manager throws an error saying Code 10 This device could not start. Then on the line below it says The requested operation as unsuccessful. (I'm getting this from my memory, I'm out of town atm) I tried using newer or older drivers from ASUS and Broadcom and none of them work but still throw the same exact error. Any ideas on this?

To further troubleshoot this issue I fired up an Ubuntu Live USB Stick and used that Wi-Fi adapter and it ran just fine. So I know it's something within Windows. I've been getting by with an old D-Link USB adapter but it is not stable so this is starting to become urgent.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update BROKE Wi-Fi Adapter

Hi DarkShadow641

I would run the network trouble shooter, Start >Settings > Updates and Security > Troubleshooters

If that doesn't fix run Network Reset. Start => Settings => Network & internet => Scroll to bottom of right hand side =>Network Reset

This will cause you to “Forget” your wireless passwords and you may have to reset any VPN or customized communication software if you use.

i have no idea where to even start; but i REALLY need my PC running right away. i have a lot of art projects and a couple essays i need to finish and turn in!

As of now, i can't get internet. First it was a Gateway problem, but now it just says my ethernet cable is unplugged. it isnt and i have tried 2 other cables. I am in safe mode right now trying to uninstall the update (that supposedly failed by the way) but the windows update screen is stuck at loading.

i had a few startup programs fail and give weird errors. SystemExplorer being on and SyncThing if that matters

i have tried rolling back my network driver and that did nothing.

please help.

EDIT: Got to uninstall update window but nothing more recent than November 14th. So the updates must have partly installed maybe? just enough to completely screw me over? i have nothing to recover from either according to Backupa dn Recovery

OKAY Ethernet cable is now recognized, just no internet.

Update History says "Requires a restart to finish installing" however i have restarted several times.
WiFi connects, but there is no internetBoth are connected to an "unidentified network"

To be more clear. I am connected to an unidentified public network, but with no internet

Hi, after updating windows with the creators update several programs were broke and crashed instantly when run. An uninstall and reinstall fixed them all though except one, PotPlayer.

PotPlayer will run and open fine if there is no video loaded, but try and play one and it crashes right away.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot this

The frustration level is through the roof. I already formatted my system once after the anniversary update ruined it and it's happened again.

Had a bunch of automatic updates in December and the number of things that broke is staggering.

I no longer have cortana nor the search bar and the following apps all broke

calculator, alram clock, calendar, camera, get started, groove music, mail, maps, soltair, movies & TV, one note, stick notes, store, voice recorder and weather.

Screenshot of my updates
https://i.imgur.com/gM2oBCz.png

Remove updates
https://i.imgur.com/MmZIcPk.png

from the remove updates the only ones that allow me to uninstall are the two most recent ones under Microsoft windows.
I uninstalled those but nothing changed. I also cheked for updates and reinstalled them and the problems are still there.

I'm also running bitdefender 2017 and malwarebytes if that helps.

I'm basically thinking to now format again and just disable updates indefinitely.

Answer:Update broke Cortana/search and most windows programs

There are a lot of folks running systems similar to yours. I do not run Bitdefender and don't run Malwarebytes in real time.

So, I will ask,can you think of anything about your system which may be involved in your problems? Have you made any modifications to a Win 10 normal install, such as moving certain folders to another location.

Are you showing any recurring warnings or errors in the Event Viewer?

Is this a clean Win 10 install or an upgrade from a prior OS?

Although my internet connection is working fine, installed apps & services like CORTANA, GROOVE, MAIL are not signing in. They keep saying network not found or "can't sign in". Even feedback tool doesn't show any recent posts, although I was able to post a feedback, I'm sure it didn't go past my machine. OneDrive & OneDrive for business are working. I'm at the end of my wits here trying to figure out what is going on with my pc..

I have an overclocked pc, to 4.6 which has been rock stable.. sleep mode has worked fine.. i choose sleep and it stays asleep..

I decided to wipe my C drive on my samsung Evo ssd (no samsung software running).. and start clean.. i also tested this on my older test image, same issue..

If i choose sleep, it instantly comes back out of sleep (same with doing a shutdown too, though if i shutdown from bios no issue)..

I've tried everything.. i've tried viewing the wake events, nothing really there as a clue..
I've tried setting wake timers to disabled.. tried setting the nic card power management to off.. tried disabling the nic too.. saw that the mouse and keyboard are set to wake, set those to disabled for waking, no change.. tried pulling every usb from the machine.. still the same.

I've also tried updating via device manager various drivers, using the update button, some did update, but made no difference

Some of the commands i've used include:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
powercfg /requests

Also ran the sleepstudy option, but when it says woke up, cause is "unknown"
Again, this all worked fine about 10 days ago on the old OS, its the new one giving it fits (and technically my older test win 10 image too for some reason).

I went into the bios and disabled the overclock for the most part, basically took my ratio from 46 to 43 (i7-6700k).. same ... Read more

So yesterday, I finally bit the bullet and decided to let my PC do the Windows 10 Version 1703 Creator's Update. After about 8 hours, I finally went to bed and let it keep running. Well sometime during the night it finally finished. Logged in this morning only to see that all my files had been moved. Fixing that was easy. I just renamed the location under This PC to fix it.

But then I realize the big issue about Windows Store and several default apps being missing. Well I cannot successfully use my PC without using things such as the store, calculator and sticky notes. Those are things I use constantly. Tried manually resetting them in the apps menu to no avail. Then I tried reinstalling them using power shell as an administrator. No such luck.

Finally decided to just roll back to the previous version of windows only to be told that I need to delete any new accounts created, an account showing up with my name, was specified. WTF? I didn't create any new accounts. I'm the administrator account. I can't delete myself and even if I could I wouldn't because I'd lose my stuff and I don't have the ability to back it up at this moment. So what exactly am I to do? My PC is now broke and pretty much completely useless.

All I can say is Thank God I've got the ability to buy a new one, but I'm totally tiffed that Microsoft would release a product that takes a perfectly fine PC and makes it completely unusable.

It's been for a while that I couldn't install silverlight 64 bit (the default version it downloads for my 64bit windows vista) but I could install the 32bit version that worked enough to use.

Yesterday there was a windows update which was automatically installed and now silverlight no longer works, even when I reinstall the 32bit version when trying to view a silverlight video it says silverlight not installed.

Is this part of the Windows 10 push?

Is there anything I can do?

I'm paying per month for a video streaming service that uses silverlight so I'm not happy. Of course it works fine on Windows 8 but my tv room htpc has vista.

Has anyone else experienced this?

You should upgrade to newest version of the Windows 10 version 1709. If you want to install the update now, go to the Microsoft software download website and select Update now. Before doing this, you'll need to make sure your device is up to date. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update. Select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.

Last night an update happened on my laptop and now today no internet seems to be connecting to it.
The internet works fine on my mac computer right next to it when I plug the ethernet cable in but does nothing on my laptop when I swap the cable to it (I'm typing this on my mac) I keep receiving the error "one or more network protocols are missing from this computer"

I have tried:
Disabling ipv6
Installing reliable multicast protocol
Disable and re enable network adapter
ifconfig release/renew
reset winsock

Im at my wits end and nothing seems to help. I have been using Windows 10 just fine for a couple of weeks until this update. I still have the ability to downgrade back to Windows 8 for a couple more days but I would rather not as I don't even know that will fix my issue. I also have no previous reset points to roll back to.

Answer:Windows 10 Update broke internet, one or more network protocols miss

Hi.
Were you using a VPN or proxy when the update occurred?

You might wish to check Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings.

a. What happens when you rt click the network icon, Troubleshooting?
b. Try downloading Tweaking.com's repair tool (free), observe the cautious stages and select ONLY Network repair, and run that repair.

(This saves looking up a lot of complicated commands).
Please report the results.

It just hangs and has to be killed with the task manager. I have tried all the fixes I could find including the FixIt routines from Microsoft. So far nothing. Anybody have any ides of where I might start looking?

Have you tried a plain reinstall. Uninstall from Control Panel, then delete any remneants in Program Files if there are any. Then either download an old version like 11 or 10 from a non-Microsoft site OR just re-download 12. May work.. If not I suggest a new media player like iTunes, WinDVD or VLC.

My printer is a HP 2055dn. Since Windows 10 came out, at every major Windows update, I have had to uninstall the printer and reinstall it. After the latest update, the usual reinstall did not work, and I now can't print. What I have done successfully previously and tried to do unsuccessfully after the recent update is to follow the following steps, found through a Google search:

Unplug the USB cable from the printer if present or turn off your printer.
Go to Control panel/Programs and feature, select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control Panel/Devices and printer, select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Restart your computer.
Click the bottom-left "Start" button on desktop, type "device manager" in the search box and tap "Device Manager" on the menu.
Once in "Device manager", click on the "View" tab in the top & choose ?Show hidden devices?.
Then from the "Device manager" list, check the entries under ?Printer? ? If there are any entries, please right click and choose ?uninstall? ? In the confirm device uninstall popup, make sure you select the box which says ?Delete the driver software for this device".
Also, check the entries under "Printer queue" and "Imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says ?Unknown device?.
Once done, close device-manger. Then... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Anniversary Update broke my TL-WN725N USB Wireless Adapter

You may want to try this:
go to Device Mnager and Uninstall WiFi Driver. If there a Box saying "Delete Driver", check it
If it is a combo card (Wifi+BT), delete also the BT Driver.
Open Programs and Features
Delete Software for Wifi and BT
Reboot
Go again to Device manager , look for WiFi Card and right-click and select "Update Driver", Windows will look online for the right Drivers
If Windows did not find drivers, then install the ORIGINAL Drivers you have got with your PC or Download them from your PC Manucturer.
If this does not work, best option is roll back to previous OS version.

The Windows 10 Anniversary update brought great features like the Windows Ink workspace, but it also brought irritating bugs. After the anniversary update, File Explorer Libraries doesn't function properly anymore. A key use of Libraries was to have a consistent view of directories in the library, and updating a parent or sub directory's view will affect the entire view of the library. This allowed seamless navigation of Libraries and management of files. Now this anniversary update has broken that key function, every subdirectory has its own view, which you have to change manually for each and every sub-directory, and no way to make the same view apply through the entire library! Unfortunately, after all these updates, the problem still isn't fixed!
For further elaboration, have a look here:windows 10 - Library folder view not respecting the folder setting - Super User
Already voted for a feedback someone created months ago here ( https://aka.ms/Q8cvvh ). What do you guys think? Anyone else missing this great time-saving functionality after Windows 10 anniversary update?

Hi, I am trying to update my X230 with latest drivers. Sadly I have encountered an issue which you can see on the attached image. Is that a reason for concern or just a bug? Is there a way to fix it?

Hello everyone, I have been experiencing this problem for quite a while now. My laptop is unable to do automatic software and driver updates.  Whenever I try to use Lenovo System Update software I get an error that says "An error occurred while downloading packages.) at 15% (Searching: Lenovo Help Center). I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Same thing. I tried also the Automatic Driver Update from Lenovo website and I get "Scan failed", "System Update (TVSU) is failed to upgrade to the latest version". My last solution was to download all drivers manually from Lenovo website and then try to install them one-by-one and see which is the latest version. I would really appreciate any help. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks. Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo)

Hey guys, Don't know if any of you will be able to answer this, but if I was the remove all of the lenovo software from my system (access connector, easyeject utility, etc), will an update (using lenovo update) find all of the software again (latest versions and correct operating system, etc) and allow me to install them once more? I ask this as I have updated from windows vista to windows 7 and am having a couple of problems in regards to shutting down the computer (a 'force close' box appears every now and then, prompting me to click 'force close' before I can shutdown). I'm pretty sure this is a lenovo software problem as everyone else I know who isn't on a thinkpad does not experience this problem and I have barely any software on here apart from the updates and mozilla firefox. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers,Ritchie

Answer:Will the lenovo update find all the software I need?

Which program does it show during the force close prompt? You can find all the required lenovo apps for your system in the download matrix

I bought my first Lenovo Yoga 900 yesterday from Best Buy. I got a bit lost when I tried to update Lenovo's dirvers and software. I know for Thinkpads a software called "ThinkVantage Sytem Update" can support and maintain the latest drivers, BIOS, and other applications for Think or Lenovo systems. It will issue a notification once there are new versions. I would like to know for Yogas is if there is a automatic or semi-automatic way to do this? Or I have to check it manually on Leovo's support website? Thank you.

Answer:How do I update Lenovo's software and firmware?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Unfortunately you will have to look for newer versions manually as there is no update utility.  One good thing is that the downloads on the download page can be sorted by their release date which can save time, but on a new system you will still have to compare version numbers to what's installed.  There are some of the Lenovo Apps that will notify of newer versions when executed so that may save some time as well.

Hi there.

Back on the 9th I installed the Windows 8.1 Update 1 for my laptop (HP Envy m6-1206TX), which - to the best of my understanding - has broken my computer. Neither my computer nor WhoCrashed seems to think there's a problem, so I don't have anything better than a description for this.

After the initial mandatory restart and every restart since then, I am able to log in normally. However, within a few minutes my taskbar and desktop will both freeze and then disappear. Any windows that are open will cycle between which is the active window making them almost but not entirely unusable, and the screen will flash. After a couple of minutes of this, the flashing will increase in speed and the computer will rapidly cycle between desktop mode and the start screen. At this point the computer is completely unusable, and even "control+alt+delete -> Task Manager" is useless due to the way in which the computer quickly jumps between the start screen and desktop.
The only way to deal with the problem is to force-shut down the computer and, upon booting it again, immediately go to the task manager and terminate the Windows Explorer process, which leaves me without a start screen, windows commands, a desktop, or any of charms and other windows features.

Thus-far I've been in an online chat with the Windows 8 service team, only to find that I am ineligible for free support due to my computer being two months out of warranty and having been a Windows 8 native install ra... Read more

Answer:Windows 8.1 Update 1 (KB 2919355) Broke Windows Explorer

Does it work after booting in safe mode? Sounds like some sort of driver/software conflict and if it works in safe mode this might confirm this. Also try a clean boot as listed below;
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

and try the sfc/ scannow command
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

It might be a suck it & see scenario until the problem is solved.

X230 Laptop, 8GB RAM, Intel Graphics 4000 series, SS180GB SSD.  Problem occurs with laptop in the Ultra Base Series 3 dock or out of it. - VGA or DisplayPort. Laptop came with Windows 7, was upgraded to Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1 and then the 8.1 update. Problem started when Windows 8.1 was initially installed. When connected to an external Monitor (HP ZR2240W or a Dell 2412Mb) with either display port or VGA (VGA on Dell only), Windows Explorer will stop working, open programs will show not responding. Mouse still functional, and if cursor is placed in the "taskbar" area, you will get a blue spinning circle. A double click of the mouse in that area will generally cause a relaunch of Windows Explorer (screen area goes blue, then repopulates with the icons) and things will work fine for a number of program launchs or switching between programs, then the problem will occur again. This will happen up to 20+ times per day. Laptop has the latest BIOS installed from Lenovo, Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.10.3621. Have tried three different keyboard and mouse options (Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and a hard wired keyboard and mouse) and problem follows each. Today I reloaded Windows 8.1 with the most recent updates and problem continues. I feel that it might be a graphics adapter (Intel 4000) problem. Only solution there is a motherboard replacement. In multiple searches on the "net," I could not find anything... Read more

Hello, fellow Lenovo users.  I would like to let you know an issue regarding Lenovo Ideapad S206 (which comes with Windows 7 Starter OEM). Since I need to use and old program and it's not compatible with Windows 7, firstly I decided to move to Windows 8. After confirming the hotkey issue , also posted in the forum, I decided to move to old Windows XP.  After installing Wndows XP and installing some programs (codec pack, AV, etc...) I decided to keep my little netbook up to date with Windows Update. I noticed there is an optional update available on Windows Update (in the Optional Updates section) called: "Other - Processor - AMD Processor"  ( I can't remember the exact name at the moment). If you decide to install this update on your computer and restart it, Windows XP starts FREEZING randomly for no reason.  I repeat: if you install it, the computer FREEZES at any time for no reason.  Note: There is NO Blue Screen. It just freezes in the moment's screen. I made a clean Windows XP install three times while I was trying to find out a reason for this . Only on the last one (the one I'm running at the moment) I hid the update to avoid misclicking and thus, installing and it has no problem running Windows XP. I hope this helps fellow users to not have unpleasant times.   Best regards.

I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. I've done so, be it doesn't seem to have helped. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops.  Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.

I turned on my T530 the night of the 24th. Unexpectedly, and without my consent the Lenovo Driver/Software updater ran in the background. The software downloaded/installed a bunch of things including, a WiFi hotspot, Geolocation services, and more. It also installed a Windows 8/8.1 Lenovo settings app. I never set the application to auto install/update things without my consent. This is completely unacceptable from a professional standpoint. It installed multiple sketchy things without my knowledge, and broke my existing configuration. I restarted my machine, assuming I had malware, and manually removed everything, including the Windows 8/8.1 app.  Could someone please provide me with some clarification as to what the application was intending to do? Update: I figure I should mention, I am running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with all updates applied. Thanks.

Answer:Has anyone gotten Lenovo Care System Update software to work yet?

I don't see any new updates on the Lenovo site. I also don't remember seeing a "Lenovo Care System Update" on my system. The only updates I found were the ones from Windows Update and a video card driver update from laptopvideo2go.com. The new driver increased by 3D score from 4.3 to 4.5!

OK, I ran windows update yesterday just to check for any new updates.

And this item popped up under software updates:
Advanced Micro Devices processor software update released on August 29 2001.
Download size: 31 KB, < 1 minute

It says it supports all K7 processors... but what is it?

I've been running an AXP2400+ for months now with no problems.

Answer:Lenovo System Update 5.03 on T430u doesn't report software updates

Hi Denis,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that system update is not able to retrieve software updates for your Lenovo ThinkPad T430u.

Try reinstalling system update and check if it works.

Windows 8.1 is totally a new approach and cannot be just considered as an update to Windows 8. Hence, the compatible drivers has to be redesigned so that they work properly in Windows 8.1.These drivers once created and tested will be rolled on through system update in some time. Thanks for the patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
Mithun.
