Question: Lenovo X230 non-working webcam

Hi,I've bought used laptop X230. After the Windows 7 64-bit system instalation with the all drivers update I can't start the webcam. I can see it on the Device Manager. Even if I remove it from the DM it istlals the devvice again, but still the webcam doesn't work. I've also instal the latest webcam driver manualy with no effect. When I start Fn+F6 I can see only the voice settings. What could it be?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I have everything working so far except for the webcam. I've installed the drivers so that when I go into device manager under Imaging devices it lists Integrated Camera and Camera Plus and device manager says both of these are updated and working the fine. However, when I use the Camera app which I get to from Windows 8 metro all I see is a cartoon of a camera crossed out. The yellow webcam light does turn on, but it's not working. The same thing happens when I try to do a video recording in Microsoft OneNote 2007, which I used to be able to do.  I've tried to uninstall the webcam drivers and reinstall it, but it still isn't working. I've tried doing hardware scans and update scans in the Lenovo Solutions Center but it says everything is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful. If I can't get everything to work in Windows 8 I'm switching back to Windows 7, which I made a backup disc of. Thanks,-Noora

Answer:X230 tablet Windows 8 upgrade, webcam not working

I think I finally fixed it actually, sorry about that. I just kept installing drivers from the Lenovo website and it's working now. The camera program that you access through Metro says the camera is only 0.9 pixels though, and I thought the camera was more than that.  Is there a way to tell if I've installed all the necessary drivers? I have done multiple software scans with Lenovo Solution Center but even when the camera wasn't working it said I had no updates, so that's why I kept installing drivers from the website.  Also, does anyone know the driver to make the wacom pen right click button work? I really miss that One thing I think is better with Windows 8 actually is the screen orientation change button. It's way faster than in Windows 7! I also like that it doesn't do it automatically, because I don't always want it automatic.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers, system restore and test the cam using testmycam but all of them are not working. I need to use the webcam and I can't send my laptop to repair because I have exams and presentation in a few weeks. Are there any other solutions? Thanks

Lenovo G575 (Windows 7) with an intergrated webcam that isn't working just when I needed it most. This is an old laptop that I've only used rarely in the past couple of years, but it always worked fine whenever I cracked it open, including the webcam itself. I moved overseas, sold the desktop, just bringing the laptop with me & I won't be able to afford a new computer after all of the expenses of the move  Using Skype it comes up, but I just get that circle in the middle that spins around endlessly. Trying to use the webcam with CyberLink YouCam 7 doesn't work, either, it just shows a blank black screen.  The webcam shows as working in Device Manager. I already had the latest drivers (webcam, video, etc.) from automatic Microsoft updates, however the Skype Troubleshooter ran a series of checks & tells me that the video driver may be causing the webcam to crash, even though the check for testing the webcam was not an issue. I tried downloading the latest video drivers from AMD & that didn't change the problem. Tried uninstalling & reinstalling drivers directly from the Lenovo site as well & no luck, either. The Lenovo Communications Utility doesn't even have webcam options available. There aren't any options in BIOS related to the webcam as far as I can see & toggling Fn+Esc on & off doesn't make any difference. I really need this webcam for a new job ... Read more

Recently noticed that my webcam is not working or being detected at all since installing Windows 8.1. It worked in the Camera app for a while (the default Windows 8 one) afterwards but now isnt working in that either, nor is it showing up in device manager. I've tried downloading and installing the drivers from the support website including the windows 8 and 8.1 drivers but always get a response that there is No Appropriate Device Installed. Attempting to run the individual setup files for each brand also does absolutely nothing

Answer:Lenovo y510p webcam not working since 8.1

Try rolling back the USB controller drivers. Your webcam is connected to your main computer via USB. Also check if you are having any other USE issues.

I bought my laptop new 1 month ago from the lenovo website, I downgraded to windows 7 with no issues.. One week ago the webcam stopped working, so I uninstalled, reinstalled drivers, and nothing. I did a system restore, and still no change. This seems to be a problem for some but mine seems to be unique in that once I did a system restore windows could not find the hardware at all. I've tried all the drivers that are on the website but it seems the camera itself is having issues. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi everyone, I have a T61 14.1" that is about a year a half old now and the integrated webcam has started to intermittently fail. Over the past few months, I've noticed that whenever some software tries to start the webcam, it cannot initialise it. Once in a blue moon, it works. I doubt it's software since it's a problem that has happened even after I recently did a fresh recovery of my system.  Should I call it into Lenovo Tech Support? I have a 3 year extended NBD On-Site service..I would personally prefer emailing them, but I don't think there is a way to do that.--unless they do have email support? Hello Johnk92 and welcome to Lenovo community,

It seems you have tried many steps.

Kindly update the BIOS and then check if the camera driver gets installed.

You may also try the Windows Vista driver as it worked in few cases.

If issue still persist then reinstall the Operating System and then install the camera driver first.

Please share the update with us.

Hello community, I have tried to figure out a solution to this issue on my own, yet to no avail. The camera on my laptop isn't recognized by skype or web applications that request access to it. I tried upgrading the drivers, but it didn't change anything. Is there any solution I haven't tried yet? I seriously doubt the camera is broken, as this laptop hasn't been dropped to the ground or anything like it.

I purchased my Y 500 just a few days back, while the laptop is perfectly functional otherwise the inbuilt webcam and microphone array just don't seem to work no matter what I do. Here is a list of what I have already tried after reading other posts: 1. Reinstalled drivers2. Fn + Esc3. Reinstalling energy management 4. Checking hardware in device manager It's like the camera doesn't exist it won't even appear in device manager.  Though the mic is displayed here, device manager says it is working properly yet I can't seem to make it record. I tried testing the camera with skype, youcam and testmycam webpage... the result was, all of them concluded I don't have an in-built webcam. I also tried attaching an external mic this works well enough but it is not a solution to my problem. Apart from opening up the screen panel I have done everything I can think of, the local lenovo customer care didn't provide much help either. I don't want to believe this is a hardware defect but that seems most likely, if any of you have a solution please help me out.

The webcam in my T420 suddenly stopped working. Tried the following:

F1 to access Bios. Under 'Security' the 'Integrated Camera' is enabled.

Under Windows Live Movie Maker: Displays 'No Webcam was found.'

Under Device Manager there are no 'Imaging Devices' listed so I can't update the drivers.

Lenovo Easy Capture tells me 'Failed to Open Camera'

Skype Tools>Options>Videos says 'Skype couldn't find a webcam.'

Have installed the 8aca15ww.exe Integrated Camera Driver.

Edit: thanks to those who looked at this post. As you probably guessed it's a hardware failure, and I've just taken it to Lenovo for service.

Hey, I have owned the Lenovo y510p for awhile, I've probably used it for around 6+ months but recently I've been trying to use the built-in webcam. It worked for awhile, and then for some reason, it stopped working. It would keep bringing up multiple problems such as another program is using it ( I deleted a Lenovo Media program and it started working again ). It worked for another short while until it broke down again. I've deleted and redownloaded the Lenovo y510p driver for the webcam.Skype can't detect the webcam as it showshttp://puu.sh/8QS0T.pngA loading screen forever.Whenever I try opening Camera, it tells me it can't find the camera, then it starts flashing, and it alt tabs itself out (???).The webcams light turns on for a split second, and then it poops. It'd be nice if someone could tell/link me the solution if it's been posted before or if you have a solution.I've tried deleting multiple programs, updating all drivers, manually deleting/resinstalling the latest webcam driver, but nothing has worked so far.

Answer:Lenovo Y510P Internal Webcam Not Working

Hi Mudkep,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the internal webcam is not getting detected even after re-installing the driver and performing the possible troubleshooting steps. Hence, the only available option to confirm if the issue is Hardware related by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) please let me know the issue persists even after performing OSRI.

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Hope to hear back soon

I upgraded my wife's Laptop to windows 10 from windows 7 last year and it seemed to work fine. She just went out of town and tried to use Skype to video call me but the webcam isn't working. The Audio works fine and Skype worked fine on windows 7. I had her push FN+ESC and it told her that there is no Webcam installed. I connected to her laptop via Teamviewer and tried to check the Device Manager Imaging Devices, but there was no entry for Imaging Devices. I downloaded the Camera Driver(Bison, Chicony) for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G460, G560 Lenovo G560 driver for windows 8 (no driver available for win10) and tried to install it but no luck. I'm wondering if there is a Microsoft Generic Webcam driver that might work, but this is her work machine so I don't want to remotely install drivers willy nilly. Thanks

I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad S300 running Windows 8 and initially had difficulty in getting it to update but, with help from several websites, managed to resolve this problem. However, I never managed to get the integrated webcam to work. The application would launch but the camera screen is blank. Device Manager advises that the device is working properly and the drivers are up-to-date. Incidently, this particular notebook does not have the hotkey (F9) to switch the integrated camera on/off but, I understand, on later versions Fn+Esc is supposed to perform the same function; it does not. The system has two associated programs, Lenovo EasyCamera and Lenovo YouCam.

More recently I have updated to Windows 8.1 but the integrated webcam still does not work. Can anyone please advise what I might be doing wrong or what I could do to get the webcam to work. I'm a bit of a newbie, particularly as far as Windows 8 is concerned. Regards.

Have you tried re-installing the webcam driver? I have a Lenovo at home and mine was ok when I upgraded, but I removed all the Lenovo drivers for the webcam. (As I hate all the rubbish companies put onto new equipment)

Also when you run the camera app does it detect a camera? Usually Windows 8 will ask for a camera to be plugged in. If it shows a blank image does the white light next to the lens turn on?

I recently had to reinstall windows onto the Lenovo x201 tablet laptop and I can't get the integrated webcam to work on Google+. I tried downloading the integrated camera driver but during installation it stops about 3/4s of the way and the installation cancels. Not sure how to fix this , I checked under Device Manager and the camera driver is not listed under imaging devices. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo x201 tablet laptop Integrated Webcam not working

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per our concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the camera driver from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?#

After that please perform the following steps.
1. Press Fn+F6 to enable the camera.
2. Click the Manage Settingsbutton. The Communications Utility window opens.
3. In the Communications Utility window, configure the camera settings depending on your individual needs.

Regards,
Sameer

Question: x230 Webcam Shield

Hi guys, my question is: Is there any webcam shield that fits the X220/230? I am currently putting tape on the webcam to cover it while I dont need it, but something "prettier" would be nice. I also tried a few other covers for the webcam, but afterwards I was not able to close the lid... Thanks!

Answer:x230 Webcam Shield

Hi Betatester,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you want to close the camera slot on your ThinkPad X230.

There is no shield for camera to close, you have to replace the LCD bezel, has you will get two types of bezel which is with camera and without camera, or else you can disconnect the camera from the system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I recently got a Thinkpad x230. When using skype (for instance) all the settings for my webcam have to be set up manually. Moreover they seem not to stay as set. Finally, if the light conditions check I need to readjust manually. I have the built-in Windows 7 and everything is up to date (Windows and drivers). Every laptop I've had so far (even really old ones) used to adjust the settings automatically on the fly when light conditions changed. Is there any way to make my Lenovo do this? I cannot believe it is impossible. Thanks.

Answer:x230 webcam problem after 8.1 update

I've been able to fix the issue. Basically for anyone who is having similar issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1 do the following:1.) Push Fn+F6This will open your camera and microphone settings under the modern UI. From here you should get a pop up that asks if you would allow a settings update.2.) Click yes, and when the file is done downloading run it.3.) After installing you'll need to restart.4.) After restarting push Fn+F6 again, and click on the camera setting. Unclick private, and your camera will once again work. I have to say I really like the way lenovo has implemented these settings under Windows 8. Very slick, and well done. My only gripe is the update wizard could have easily tagged this as a necessary upgrade and done it without me having to blunder around.

I just spent the last 4 days with my new ThinkPad trying to get the webcam working, and someone at work verified that I don't have one.  I am a bit upset about this since all the technical specs on lenovo.com for this model list a webcam as standard (not an option), and when I configured it online at lenovo.com, I was never presented with the option of including or not including the webcam.  Furthermore, the order acknowledgement did not mention the presence or absence of the webcam, so I assumed it was configured with one. I'm happy to send this unit back to get the lid replaced, but I'd be even happier if Lenovo just sent me a replacement at the same time that I returned this unit. What are my options?  Who do I talk to to resolve this? Has this happened to anyone else?

Answer:My new 2306CTO X230 ThinkPad is missing the webcam

Webcam is an option on some models, if you choose the 3X3 antenna, then the webcam option is hidden from you. You need to talk to Lenovo customer service and see whether there is anything that you can be worked out between the two parties.

Hello, I'm interested in the Thinkpad X230. I read some test and all of them mention two kind of display panels (TN and IPS) and recommend to choose the IPS panel. I tried to configure my X230 on shop.lenovo.com. But whenever I select the "12.5 Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit" display (I assume that this is the IPS display) there is only "no camera" as option for a web cam. If I opt for an non premium display I can select a  720-P-HD camera. So I'm a little bit confused. Isn't it possible to get the premium display together with a camera? Maybe I should add that I'm from Germany and used the German shop page, because sometimes there are different models for different countries. Thanks!

Answer:x230 with 12.5 Premium HD LED Backlit Display - no webcam?

Hmmm,  on the US site, there are four display options.  2 HD and 2 HD premium.  They all  offer a camera option except the HD premium with 3x3 antenna.

Do you see something similar on the German site?

Ok, so like an idiot I had no idea what a 3x3 antenna was and chose it for my HD display, didn't get the webcam and have the Intel Centrino 2x2 2200 wifi card. http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x230_fru_bom_v3.pdf I see 3 camera FRUs listed here. My questions are:1. Is it possible to install an integrated cam with my current config.2. What part do I pick for the HD webcam 720p for my IPS display.3. Would I have to cut out an antenna and would this be possible/dangerous?4. My 3x3 config is useless without a 3x3 card?

The problem simply is, the webcam stopped working for some reason, an error messeage says "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".

I noticed that whenever I put the computer in sleep mode I was getting on the icon tray a notification says "USB device unrecognized"... I wasnt aware what it was - thought it becasue of the USB mouse being plugged... but I think its related to the camera...

software is installed but camera is not working and cant enable it .. I did download the latest driver from toshiba site , but still not working ...

Currently my laptop runs Vista HP SP2 32-bit, Windows defender enabled, Windows Firewall Enabled, Windows UAC enabled, Kaspersky Ani-Virus 2009 Enabled. I only use Windows Live Messenger (which up to date I think , version : 14.0.8089.726) which i used camera with, I quite using face recognition long time ago and rarely use the webcam ... I didnt install or update any drivers and used to have the laptop running perfectly..

So what happened now ?!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: webcam stopped working - Webcam driver open fail

Hi

I have had a similar error message and could solve this by disabling the webcam software from startup.
In msconfig -> Start Up tab I have unchecked the Chicony webcam software.
This prevents it from automatic loading.
I don?t use MSN but Skype and the Chicony webcam software is always disabled (not executed) if Skype is running.

Maybe you should try this too.

Furthermore you could try this:
Go to device manager, mark the webcam (imaging devices ? USB video device) and deleted it from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and wait until the webcam has been recognized again.

Then test it.

After looking through this forum, I have tried several 'solutions' but to no avail.

After trying to load the webcam i get the message: "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer"

I have tried updating the Driver software for the camera, and updated the BIOS.

This message still keeps coming up. Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?

Sorry if some of this doesnt make much sense, im not entirely "computer savvy"

I hope somebody can help,

Thanks,

Of course!

You should firstly go to device manager and should uninstall the driver.
You should also remove the software from control panel -> Software

After that you should clean the OS and registry using CCleaner. It?s free tool? google?
Then reboot the notebook several times and install the webcam software again.

Cheers

You can do two things: 1. Go to Windows Anytime Upgrade and purchase the Pro feature. This is the easiest way to upgrade, but it costs a small amount to do this. 2. Try booting from the Windows 7 DVD and see if it will let you start it and install the upgrade. You will need the license key from the Windows 7 DVD to do this. ... JDH

Question: Lenovo X230 setup

Hi, everyone,A quick question. I have an x230 on the way and am looking to set up my workspace in a specific way. Here is what I want: an external monitor that will allow me to move the cursor from the laptop screen to the other monitor. So, in essence, a dual monitor set-up but with the laptop screen as one of the monitors. I would also like to be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse while in this set-up. Do I need the UltraSeries 3 dock, or something else? Thanks!Parker

Answer:Lenovo X230 setup

Hi, Parker

You should be able to accomplish this without a docking station. The X230 supports a dual independent display and has a VGA port and a Mini DisplayPort. So if you have a monitor with one of these connections and hook it up to your laptop, then it should work. You will need to make sure that you Extend the display and not Duplicate it. Duplicate will give you the same image on both screens. You can just use Win + P to set it appropriately.

As for the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you should have no issues here either. Provided Bluetooth is turned on in the system and you have compatible Bluetooth peripherals, it should work like a charm once they've been paired.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi All! I'm sorry to sound like a bit of a newb here, but i'm looking for a little bit of assistance with my x230 laptop.  I bought the laptop back in september with windows 7 professional.  A couple months later, I upgraded to windows 8 only to not really like it too much and decide for now I want to revert back to Windows 7.  Not knowing what my options were, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate back on the machine through an external cd drive, but now I'm missing about 100gb from my main drive, I ordered a 500gb 7200 rpm drive but now I only have about 350 GB available after the clean install.  I wasn't too sure how the recovery options on the x230 worked.  I see that next to my main C drive, there is another drive there located "Recovery" It has about 75% of the disk space being taken up but there is absolutely nothing within the actual drive when I actually click it.  It's probably too late, but is there any way to actually take my laptop back to the way it was when I first bought it? I only ask because it seems there's something on that recovery drive but I just can't figure out what it is.  I would appreciate any help at all, I'm sorry for sounding like such a newb with this stuff!

Answer:Lenovo x230 Recovery

Hi, Flyerfan16

If you are viewing your drives in Disk Management, how big is the Recovery partition? The partitions from Lenovo are normally between 7 GB and 10 GB when the machine ships. If the original partition is still on the drive, then you should be able to recover to the settings when the machine was first purchased.

You can attempt recovery by starting the machine as normal and then pressing Enter repeatedly to interrupt startup. A menu should then appear, with an option available to recover your system. Press the associated key for this action and then follow the prompts. If all works well, you should be able to go back to the way it was. If you choose this option, make sure to back up all files that you wish to keep that are currently on the system.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hello,So, first of all, I'm not english, so I'm sorry for the following mistakes.Let's start.1 year ago I've bought a lenovo x230 netbook with Windows 8, intel core i7 + 8 gb ram + SSD. [still using these specs]Okay. After 1 month of usage, the display started to have some problems. From the left to right, the 3/7 part of the display is changing in all the colors while using. It depends on what color is the page opened. If it's white, this part of the display is black with some "running" white lines, if it's blue - red and so on.No problem ; acording to the warranty, the display has been changed. It was ok.Since august 2014 I didn't use the laptop again. I started using it in April 2015. In may, the display started to have that problem again, but I've read on your forum that I need to put the display on 60Hz and on High performance mode to fix it, and that's what I did. At the beggining of June, the problem was back, and it is still on 60Hz and high performance mode.3 days ago, my laptop started to make another problem ; CHARGING.It doesn't want to charge.  If I just plug in, it stays with the battery on 0%, and it doesn't open because of the missing electricity, but I've realised something. If I move the end of the charger [near the part which get into that yellow circle where the end of the charger must be, hope you understand] higher than 10-15 CMs it DOES charge. But now it doesn't charge even if I put it in the position I've said before. I would wan to find out if I can install  mSATA SSD 128gb into the x230 and main harddrive as a storage?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Lenovo Think Pad x230 and mSATA SSD

Hi, odessit

This should be possible. There is a slot for an mSATA drive in the X230, as shown here. Also shown in that link is that an mSATA is a user-replaceable part. After purchasing your SSD, then all you will need to do is install it per the instructions here (pp. 70) Also, you will likely need to download this firmware update after installing the drive. This will allow the BIOS to recognize the SSD if you plan to use it as the C: drive of the system. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

OR if you are familiar with disassembling of keyboard and palmrest do it, then unplug connector of small yellow battery under palmrest (near FPR) during several minuts. Assemble the laptop and try to boot. If laptop will boot go to BIOS setup, press F9 and save default settings, set and save your settings. If that actions will not resolve the issue I'm afraid you have to contact with Lenovo support.

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

I then uninstalled the old driver and tried to install the driver and it failed. So I used Windows Restore Point feature thing. Now its just disabled.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Answer:Webcam Not Working. Alienware M17X, Intergrated Webcam.

I found my solution!    Though... it kinda is a "Doh!" kinda thing.
Apparently FN+F9 will enable or disable the webcam!
It seems that I had done this inadvertently at some point and turned it off, and while messing around for a solution the other day, II tried the combo it turned back on the webcam!
Quite a powerful key combination I have to say if manually enabling the web cam and reinstalling the web cam driver don't do anything.

Hey everyone!I ordered a x230 a few weeks ago and i realized i need bluetooth! I know i can purchase a dongle for a few dollars but i rather keep my USB ports free.Anyone know where I can purchase a bluetooth card so i can install it myself? - Or is it advised not to do that. What do you think I should do?

Answer:Lenovo x230 missing bluetooth!

2 options come to my mind1) you can look for bluetooth expresscard (x220 has a slot, so I'm guessing x230 has it as well)2) you can put it in mini-PCIe slot (for the WWAN card or mSATA SSD), assuming it's empty now, ie. you purchased without WWAN

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 (which I love dearly) and have a few question about ports and booting.  I would first like to verify that the port on the left side of the laptop directly above one of the USB ports is indeed an ExpressCard 54.  I have searched the web, but have yet to find a definite answer, and my user manual simply stated "ExpressCard."  Furthermore, I would like to know if it is possible to boot an operating system from said port using an ExpressCard 34 SSD (64GB).  I have the intention of installing openSUSE 12.3 to the potential SSD and be able to boot from it.  I greatly appreciate any help.  I  would post an image of said port, but I am being told the image file is much too large.

I have a Lenovo x230 laptop with an i7 processor that starts the second time. This means that when you first turn on, there is a black screen. The restart must be forced and then normally turns on. I tried to use an external screen, tricks with disconnecting the battery and pressing the switch, CMOS battery, RAM memory replacement - nothing did not succeed. On this motherboard, the service replaced the BIOS chips due to failure in the upgrade. They said that the computer would not work anyway. The computer, however, works, but after the second launch - which is annoying. I have updated the BIOS on my own, which did not solve the problem. Once the computer starts, it works very steadily and without problems. I have not found a similar case anywhere on the internet.

I've bought the Lenovo X230 with the broken battery (the PM showes 68% charging and no more, asks for the battery replacement). I've tried 3 different good-working batteries from X220 which were supposed to work on X230, but they don't. When starting the laptop with that battery, it stops with the information:" The battery installesd is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system. Press the ESC to continue".  And after pressing the ESC key, it starts to work, but the PM still writes that the battery is not correct and it doesn't charge. What could it be?

Answer:Lenovo x230 battery problem

Hi,x230 doesn't support the batteries of old 29 series (x220 did). Only hw protected batteries 44 series are being supported by x230 (and 19+ series, external).Batteries of 29 series can only be discharged in x230.Try to perform the original (x230's) battery reset using Lenovo power manager feature.

Dear lenovo, My lenovo x230 has just started to give wierd 'band' on the display I have a 12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display. The lenovo was bought in June 2013. I have attached the relevant pictures. I can tilt the screen to a few positions where the band does not appear, it begins to appear when I move the screen. Is it only a wire/connection issue or will I have to replace the entire LED panel ? http://s18.postimg.org/op9qexa09/IMG_20140720_190452.jpg Thank you ;-) DVartak

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

Dear support, My Thinkpad X230 (NZD78MH 12.5", 3520M, 180GB, W7) recently started to frequently overheat. It happens during rather normal operation, such as browsing the internet or playing video on youtube. This causes the fan to run on maximum capacity and computer processes to slow down significantly.  As the image shows below, taken after playing a random youtube video, temperatures of ~103°C are typical.  Should I have it serviced? Please help. Best regards, Matthias

Answer:Lenovo X230 FingerPrint Error

If you re-installed Windows and this problem still happens, I'd say there's a strong possibility that your fingerprint sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.  Even if the device looks OK in Device Manager, this really doesn't mean much.  All it means is that Windows can talk to the USB device that hosts the fingerprint sensor, but the fingerprint sensor itself could still be malfunctioning.

Some things that can help confirm hardware problem:
1.  Shut the system off, does fingerprint green LED flash slowly?  If so it means that the sensor contains some fingerprint templates so lets try to clear them.
2.  Turn the system on and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
3.  Go to the Security menu and choose Fingerprint, then clear the fingerprint sensor.  You should see a message about success or failure.  Failure definitely means HW problem.
4.  If you see a message about success clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS, then shut the system off again.  The green LED should not be flashing anymore because you cleared the sensor in BIOS.  If the green LED still flashes, then it means HW problem because the fingerprint templates were not really cleared.

So try the above steps to try to confirm the HW problem, or just call service in your country and request help.

My computer is fairly new...that's why this issue is driving me crazy! I use skype and messenger a lot because I'm currently stationed in Europe. When I first arrived everything worked great. Then, the voice went out on Skype so we started using Yahoo messenger..then the camera went out on messager...I went and bought both an external webcam and microphone and neither would work at the same time but every once in awhile one would work. Currently I can get voice on skype and that's it. Skype doesn't even give me the option of a webcam anymore and when i try with messenger it says no connection found. I'm not a computer smart person and I've tried and tried to get the camera working. I have no idea what to do about it now..I'm almost to the point of just buying another computer. I have a 4 year old Lenovo Thinkpad X230 computer.  Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (two years ago?) my computer has randomly shut off with no warning.  There doesn't seem to be a pattern with regard to when or how this happens.  The computer starts normally every time.  This can happen upwards of 5 or 6 times in an hour (although sometimes it can go several days without shutting off). In the last year (since June 2016), the computer has been evaluated by three different technicians on three different occasions (June, October, January).  Each found no hardware issues, no issues with fuzz/dust, no obvious software issues, no malware or other viruses.  Personally, I have explored the answer on the internet and fiddled with the settings relating to sleep mode (among other suggestions) and nothing seems to have worked.  I recently was advised to revert to the original windows 10, undoing all the updates and additional installations that I've put on the computer.  I did this, and miraculously it helped (although it still shut off twice since then.  This was in February).  In the last two weeks, I was forced to upgrade back to normal and the problem has returned.  Additionally, the first person who looked at my computer (back in June 2016), told me that this was aparently a common problem with Windows 10 and that the only way to fix it was to revert to Windows 8.   I would like to not have to do this, if poss... Hello all, I have serious network configuration issue (including both, WiFi and Ethernet). When I enter IPv4 configuration, next time I open again the configuration page, the settings are put into automatic mode (so no pre-entered IPs there). But ipconfig shows the entered IPs. Some times ipconfig also show 3 or 4 different gateways, but opening the Network adapters configuration page, all is set to automatic, so I put it into manual mode, then again to automatic mode and disable + enable adapter, then it'll go to dhcp. This issue is really annoying, I had it before the clean install, it worked some time after reinstall, but now the issue came back again. Using Windows 8.1 ProAll drivers are up-to-date. Any help is really, really appriciated,Thanks in advance,Kunnar

My friend owns a spare Lenovo X230 with Intel i5-3210M CPU and I own a Lenovo X220 with Intel i5-2430M CPU. My X220 have a terrible Intel HD 3000 Graphics installed and I like the performance boost the Intel HD 4000 can give me. Since my friend have no need of his X230 (he have an Alienware 17), he said that if I can find a way to exchange CPUs between these two computers, I can, provided that the X230 still works with my 2430M CPU afterwards. So I would like to know is it possible to exchange CPUs between these 2 computers but1. NOT losing all data2. I can do it myself with a screwdriverWe don't really care about the ports except for the USBs and headphones.
