X1 carbon 3rd gen TrackPoint issues (Win 10)

Question: X1 carbon 3rd gen TrackPoint issues (Win 10)

I want to report several issues with TrackPoint. Basic InfoLaptop: X1 carbon 3rd genModel: 20BT-CTO1WWOS: Windows 10 Pro (upgraded from Win 7 Pro)TouchPad driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver ver. 19.0.17.2 Issue 1: TrackPoint does not work with MS Office 2016 (except Word).Mid button + TrackPoint cannot scroll horizontally in Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote. Scrolling vertically works well.Horizontal scroll works well with Word 2016, Notepad, Microsft Edge, Firefox, etc.Horizontal scroll works well in Excel 2016 with ThinkPad mouse (model: MORFGOO) with mouse suite. Issue 2: TrackPoint calibrates even in mid button + TrackPoint mode.If you tilt TrackPoint steadily for a few seconds, it calibrates and takes it as new zero position. This is a correct behavior. If you hold mid button and tilt TrackPoint steadily (i.e. scrolling), it should never calibrate. This is another correct behavior which was seen with my previous ThinkPad notepads. However, my X1c TrackPoint calibrates even when mid button is held. After 0.5~1 seconds, the scroll stops. When releasing, the mouse pointer moves automatically. This is annoying. Issue 3: Mouse pointer changes size when mid button is pressed. The same as this post. I use TrackPoint a lot with Excel and the above issues lower efficiency.I hope there will be new Synaptics driver to resolve the issues. btw, I'm not sure which is the best way to report bugs, because there are tooooooo many Lenovo and ThinkPad official "solution" software...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, Since updated to Windows 10, horizontal scrolling with trackpoint becomes unavailble in many situations such as in the PDF reader app or in excel... Anyone else having the same problem??

My TrackPoint is off center, as in when I take the dome off I see the soldered trackpoint hardware and its skewed to the bottom left. When I put the red cap back on, it touches the letter B and its closer to H and far from G key. I have a feeling a lot of the times my trackpoint moves by itself and is caused by this fact. Anyone else have an off centered TrackPoint?

You know that rubber stick between the G and H keys on the new Carbon X1..? How do I replace it? In the old Thinkpads you could just yank it out, but with the X1, it seems to be stuck. Mine is working fine, I just want to replace it with the cat's tongue/classic type of eraser head. Would this be safe to do or might it scratch/dent the screen?

Answer:How to change Trackpoint on Carbon X1?

Download the manual for your computer. That will tell you how to change out the trackpoint but (I haven't seen the x1c yet) the trackpoint there may well be smaller. Here is the LINK for the x1c maintenance manual

This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. I checked the Lenovo assistant and all drivers are updated. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

I just got a X1 Carbon 4th Gen and the trackpoints are different than they used to be. The hole is much smaller than the old design. I have been trying to find a part number but haven't had any luck. My favorite is the concaved version, but I would like to find any version at this point. Thanks for any help!

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

I just start using X1 Carbon Gen 2 and find that the Trackpoint is way too slow.  I have used Trackpoint for more than 10 years in various models of Thinkpad and get use to Trackpoint.  Every model of Thinkpad that I used, the default setting of Trackpoint which is in the middle, is too slow but after adjust to fastest, it work fine.  However, for this X1 Cargon Gen 2, it is still too slow after adjusting the speed to fastest. I have updated the device driver few days ago, it does not help. Any suggestion?

Answer:Trackpoint "too slow" proglem of X1 Carbon Gen 2

Same problem on the x240.  I set the trackpoint speed to max, mouse speed to max, and turned off the "enhance cursor precision" option (which also slows the cursor), and still feel like I'm effortfully pushing the cursor around the screen with the trackpoint.  It's completely unacceptable and basically ruins the trackpoint for me.  Last night I got on my old x201 and it was like a breath of fresh air... just tap the trackpoint and it immediately goes where I want.  The constant pressure on the trackpoint of my x240 is also making it lose it's inertia settings so that it frequently just drifts uncontrollably up or down the screen. Perhaps there's a registry setting to increase it's sensitivity? It's just terrible what they did to the trackpoint on this generation.  I can partially live with the virtual buttons, but the loss of sensitivity and the removal of the press-to-select function of the trackpoint are terribly dissapointing in the new X series.  They should take the red-dot off of the lenovo marketing.

I think most users know that TrackPoint has an auto-correction mechanism to avoid permanent physical tilt. That is, when TrackPoint is pushed towards a direction with constant force for several seconds, that direction will be corrected as "zero-point". Therefore you'll observe a counter-movement when releasing TrackPoint. What I want to mention is that, back on X220, if you press middle-button when pushing TrackPoint, the above mechanism will never be triggered regardless of how long or how hard you push. This is a correct and thoughtful design, because when middle-button is pressed, such tilt should be user-generated rather than permanent physical. However, on X1 Carbon (3rd gen), the auto-correction mechanism will be triggered even when middle-button is pressed. This is NOT a correct behaviour.I guess such behaviour is coded in Synaptics driver.  If so, please kindly contact them to correct this behaviour. Thanks.

GreetingsFirst time posting seeing if anyone else is having issues with the X1 Carbon trackpoint/touchpad freezing up on Windows 8.For me it is freezing up every 20min while I am using it, and also when I unplug the AC power. The mouse will freeze up but the keyboard works fine. Usually I am forced to reboot.A USB mouse will work fine during this freeze. I have tried installing all windows updates, Lenovo updates and even system recovery to a date when I didn't have issues but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have this issue? Its been very frustrating owning this x1, as I am on my second one after the first one died on me.

Answer:X1 Carbon trackpoint/touchpad freezing

Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Answer:New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

Hi.

Just in case here it is a pointer to the Support site of the X1 Carbon.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/x1-carbon-help

I guess you have the 5th Gen, can you validate that?

What about the driver listed on the support site of the 5th Gen ? It seems to have some Synaptics driver and even some firmware update for it. Have you tried installing those ?

If you don't have the 5th Gen please specify the model to find the correct support site.

Regards

Hi,For several months now, I have been having problems with the trackpad. It would start behaving erratically, usually after 15 or more minutes, and eventually right from startup or wakeup. Things would usually be better for a bit after a restart, but not for long. I just turned off the trackpad and switched to the trackpoint. It too starts to fail after a while, though I can often get it to work again by opening the laptop up to 180 degrees. This doesn't last, so now I am always carrying a usb mouse around. Ocassionally, on wakeup the keyboard does not work, but it often starts working after a few minutes.During this same period, I have had crashes - i.e. blue screens. This has only happened a couple of times when I am actually using the laptop, rather, it almost always happens when the computer is going to sleep or going into hibernation, or so I think. I have also noticed that the laptop sometimes has trouble going to sleep or into hibernation, or starting up again after a crash. Again, opening up the laptop often seems to help. I recently bought a refurbished Carbon X1. The trackpoint and the touchpad top buttons don't work. The touchpad and bottom button do work. Touchscreen does work. So far, everything else has been okay. The "Enable Trackpoint" checkbox is greyed out in Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Thinkpad tab. After searching forums and web, I have tried the following, none of which have worked:- update all drivers - ensure windows 7 updates are up to date- uninstall lenovo driver and install synaptics driver (didn't work)  then reinstall lenovo driver (didn't work)- disable and enable trackpoint in BIOS (with reboots in between)- reset, power off, and reset via the hole in the base No luck so far. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The TrackPoint on my X1 Carbon stopped working this morning for no explicable reason. I made sure it's enabled in the BIOS, and uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav drivers. When I go to the Ultranav settings the "Enable TrackPoint" section is grayed out. Why would this happen all of a sudden? Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

Hello all, my X1 Carbon is acting up. Trackpoint and Trackpad are not working together after a week of use. However after reading some threads the only way I could get the Trackpoint to work was to disable the Trackpad via "Enter" when the computer boots up (Bios Menu). I've tried everything now, uninstalling drivers and installing new ones, rebooting laptop from factory. The only way for the laptop to have any control over the mouse cursor is through the Trackpoint by disabling the Trackpad which is annoying to just know that the pad doesn't work. Any solution? Help!

Answer:X1 Carbon Model 3444-2DU Trackpad and Trackpoint

if this is the case, then you should call up Lenovo and ask for repair or replacement. The Trackpad buttons must be acting up or there is a shortcircuit somewhere in the trackpad circuitry.

Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad and trackpoint on the X1 Carbon without going into bios? I am able to disable touchpad OR trackpoint by going into mouse properties in control panel but it won't let me do both.  I would like to turn it back on relatively easily if possible. I am trying to do this on a work computer and I have no administrative rights and I am using Windows 7 Professional. Can this be done or did Lenovo completely overlook such a simple feature?

Answer:Completely Disable Touchpad & Trackpoint on X1 Carbon

you can only do this through the BIOS menu. I guess, the reason it is not implemented in a software setting, is due to the fact that not many people in the enterprise environment requested this feature. Is there a specific reason why disabling the trackpad and leaving the trackpoint on won't work in your situation?

I got a slightly used X1 Carbon 34XX version (2013 model) recenetly. I have been using t430 for quite a long time now but now when I'm on X1 carbon I notice that the Left-key with the trackpoint is not registering properly..when I click on the area close to the scroll key, which is naturally where my finger presses, The key goes down to its seat but it misses registry and often creates problems when I drag items. I have to push it down with an extra force to make sure the key wont miss. The same key works very responsive when I click on the other end (left end) of the key. But near the scroll key it feels as if something underneath the key has shifted or something...I tried tapping it, hitting it, pulling it upwards and pressing it hard but none of that helped. I was wondering if anyone could provide me help on how to remove this key and clean whats underneath and fix it. I know how to remove the keyboard but not sure how to get to this key. Thank you

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

So this is the second time I am experienceing a problem with my x1 trackpoint and with the debacle of shipping that happened last time, I don't want to have to go through this again. I have sent my unit into lenovo for the same problem about 2 months ago.  the problem is similar to the one outlined here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-erratic-trackpoint-Synaptics-19-3-4-99/td-...). the mouse finds a home in the bottom-left or top right corner.   However, I perfer the touchpad to the pointing stick, so this probably is not be a hardware problem (or it is and it's just faulty hardware from the start).   All I literally want to do is disable the trackpoint pointing stick.  but when I do, it disables clicking so that's not an option.   I really can't afford to go another 2 months without my laptop again.  not now.    Edit: I goofed my lefts and rights

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Hi, mkmchughIf there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

Hello all - I have an X1 Carbon that is only a few weeks old and have had nothing but problems...please see the list below.  They all seem to be somehow interrelated but I simply can't find a solution.   When powering up, the computer freezes mid start up (at the windows icon screen) until various buttons on the keyboard are pushed.  I've waited in excess of 5 minutes to start up to test this out...it seems that 100% of the time the computer will not start on it's own by simply pressing the power button.Once the computer does get to the start screen, the mouse cursor slowly drifts on its own across the screen until several more buttons are pushed on the keyboard to stop it (hitting right click a few times usually works).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home. While in the Google Chrome browser, the tabs close when clicking them instead of switching to that tab.  Restarting the computer resets this, but throughout the day it will keep occurring.  Hitting the middle click fixes this temporarily (but that leads to a different problem).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home.  This also has about a 100% failure rate after the computer wakes up from a sleep mode as well as sporatically throughout the day.Due to problems with trackpoint, my default is to keep trackpoint disabled.  When trackpoint is enabled, the cursor sporadically will change to som... Hi, I'm long time X / ThinkPad user and I have few issues that are making me crazy.1) I'm mostly using TrackPoint. It happens quite few times in some hours that mouse starts to slide to diagonal position. I can stop this by either having computer go to sleep or trying to move mouse on mousepad for 10-20 seconds until computer figures out that I'm on omusepad. Today it happened 3 or 4 times in an hour2) When I'm moving mouse with TrackPoint and stop it somewhere (for example on button) I often need to click a few times until mouse click is detected (using TrackPoint buttons)3) When I am using MousePad and I move fingers slow it moves in a shaking way or sometimes does not detect my finger movement4) It has always worked that when I was using MousePad (for example T460s) when I was sliding with one finger from point A to point B and then pressed with second finger it triggered Right Click. Now I need to slide from point A to B with one finger, remove finger from MousePad and tap with two fingers All the drivers are up to date and all windows updates are installed as-well.

Scroll browser, every half of screen scroll, some lines are skipped maybe 10 or 15 lines. Screen scrolled with hopped.
It's very inconvenient.

Scrolling Method  option is "traditional" . "standard doesn't work.
Anyone know how fix it?  Is there any problem in "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav" ?

I don't have this exact issue but my scrolling is very choppy, especially using the Touchscreen (but the Trackpoint and Trackpad too).  Does the same issue occur for you with the other scrolling methods? For me, it's like the X1 is having a hard time keeping up with the web pages but the lines/elements do load eventually.

The new 2014 X1 Carbon got rid of the physical buttons for the trackpoint.   I am adjusting to that.  However, in more than one unit we are piloting we have an issue. A user that mainly uses the TrackPoint stick, will use their right thumb to left click constantly.  We are finding it to not be consistent.  And it often results in the user having to click twice on things. We have tried to adjust the "Edge Tap Filtering" - though I don't think that is related, as that is focused on taps, not clicks. Some people tried to turn off the "middle button" and focus there thumb more towards there.Overall, we believe the adapative keyboard, the physical keyboard changes and the trackpad button changes are all things people can evolve and get used to.   HOWEVER, if left-clicking is not accurate, it will drive people crazy and hurt our forecasted 500+ unit order. I am praying this can be resolved by a driver update.

Folks - I have two X1 Carbons sitting in front of me, both running Windows 8.1, trying to connect to my Samsung TV.The X1 Carbon (2014) has display corruption on WiDi, while the X1 Carbon (original) works fine. On the 2014 X1 Carbon, you get display corruption, and choppy squeaky audio every few seconds. With the original everything is smooth as silk. Any thoughts? I've already run Lenovo System Update on X1 Carbon (2014) as well as Windows Update, so everything is up to date. Don't know what else to try? Clearly, it's not the TV, nor the router, nor interference - since one machine works and the other doesn't... Thanks!

Question: Trackpoint Issues

Hi, Just recently my trackpoint in my T61 stopped responding after having a little water in my keyboard near the left function and shift keys.  Attempting to fix the problem, I went to the mouse settings to make sure it was enabled, however the Trackpoint section was grayed out and the enabled box was unchecked. I also checked the BIOS settings and both the Trackpoint and touch pad are set to automatic. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav driver and utility. Is there anything else I should do to fix the problem? The amount of water that got into the keyboard did not look like it was much and evaporated pretty quickly, so I am not sure if this is just a coincidence or it is related to the water being in the keyboard.  I also tried tried the Trackpoint with a Ubuntu Live CD, but it did not work in Ubuntu either. Thanks

I own a late 2015 Thinkpad t450s. It was fine for a long time but since few months cursor is drifting most of the time and Trackpoint stops working for a few seconds to minutes on it's own. What I have done till now: * Backed up and re-installed older version of Windows. * Tested on safe mode * Cleaned Trackpoint from dusts etc. I also used mouse and not the trackpoint but it still does that. I cannot stand to this behaviour of  the cursor anymore. Any solutions/ideas?

I've got my P70 recently, and everything works well except I have 2 issues with the keyboard and trackpoint working together: 1) Holding down Fn keys with left click and drag of the trackpoint does not work: this is incredibly frustrating, for example pan, rotate, and zoom in autodesk inventor are bound to F2-F4 keys with left mouse click 2) There is about a 1-2 second lockout period for the trackpoint left click button after any keyboard button press. For example when trying to edit a bunch of lines in code, typing and moving to a new location does not work, because you have to keep left clicking untill the lockout expires.  Both of these issues make the machine essentially unusable in any professional software, either CAD or software development.  None of these issues show up if I plugin the old usb thinkpad travel keyboard that also has a trackpoint in it, so this must be either a hardware or a driver bug in the P70 itself.  Anybody else expririncing this issue or know a solution to this? Or perhaps I just got some bad hardware?

My couple week old T400 is having some TrackPoint issues. The cursor doesn't jump, I've checked all my settings, and the touchpad is off. What is does do is when I navigate upwards, sometimes the cursor will slowly move downwards on the screen without me touching it, for at least 2 full seconds. It moves slowly, not quickly, sort of like the Trackpoint not resetting to its neutral position. Does anyone else have issues where the cursor using the trackpoint doesn't completely stop moving? Even sometimes when trying to navigate to click a point on the screen, the cursor will push itself downward, so I end up having to exert even more pressure to get it to move in the opposite direction I want to go. Sorry if this isn't a good explanation of my issue, it's a bit hard to explain. Again, the touchpad is off and the click feature for the TrackPoint is also off. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (hopefully solutions!)!Message Edited by song510 on 06-16-2009 09:40 AM

I had recently done an update using ThinkVantage. It changed the behavior of my trackpoint (pressing the middle now doesnt scroll up and down). It does however put a small round picture and it seems to allow me to scroll on any direction EXCEPT in places where the location has a clickable link. This means that the scroll function of the trackpoing cannot be used in windows start menu, etc. The issue though is that when I try hit Fn+F8, then "manage settings" - it says "unable to connect to synaptics pointing driver..." etc. then it asks me if I "...want to uninstall the driver?" Also, in folder view, hitting the center button now drags the file instead of allowing me to scroll - which is an unexpected (i believe incorrect) behavior Is this supposed to happen? My laptop is the T410s, touchscreen.

Hello mate, It's a problem with the latest ultranav driver 15.2.14.0.Just go to the device manager, in the properties of the ultranav. Under the tab driver, click on roll back driver and everything will work again.

Hello,  I just got this TP Yoga and have had some issues with it right away.  First, the trackpoint is not working.  Second, my bluetooth mouse is very laggy.  Basically, everytime I leave it for a few seconds I need to double click or move it for abotu 2-3 seconds before it starts working again.  These things combined make this very annoying to work on.  What I have done: restarted the computer, reinstalled windows, updated to the latest drivers on the lenovo website, then called tech support.  My option now is to send it back and lose my computer for 10 days.   Anyone else have any suggestions?   Thank you all!

Answer:TP Yoga: Mouse Lag and Trackpoint issues

Have you tried disabling any power saving features on Bluetooth? Maybe the mouse is going to idle. I had a similar issue with a MS BT 5000 mouse. Not sure why your TrackPoint isn't working though. Does the touchpad work?

Hi,I have had this issue with another Lenovo laptop, too, but my current laptop is a T60. Sometimes (unpredictably), I may move the Trackpoint into one direction to move the mouse cursor, and as soon as I let go, the mouse cursor moves in the opposite direction for about 2 seconds or so.This is highly annoying and disruptive. Any idea what could cause this? This has happened ever since I bought the laptop (new), so it should not be a matter of "worn out".Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks! Message Edited by semmelbroesel on 01-04-2009 09:36 AM

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.  Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Question: X1 Carbon issues

Hello,  I received my x1 Carbon 1 week ago and I love it, It's beautiful, thin and light. I do however have some concerns about my laptop. 1) Everytime I charge my laptop the bottom of the laptop gets really warm. Sometimes its uncomfortable and It feels like the laptop wants to explode. Is there a known issue of X1 carbon heat issues? 2) I am not sure if I am supposed to activate this feature but on the left USB port of the X1 carbon is supposed to be a "Always on" usb port. So I can charge my phone for example without turning on my laptop. I tried doing so and my phone wouldnt charge. I thought it was my phone or something so I tried my friends iPhone and it still failed to charge. This was embrasssing since my GF has a MBA and we compare both our laptops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Alex

Click on the Green Lenovo battery icon at the bottom bar, that will launch the Power Manager. You need to enable the "Enable Always On USB", and the "Enable even when computer is off", on the "Global power Setting" tab.  Then your always on USB will charge your phone even your system is powered off. BTW, I'm loving this X1C machine very much myself.  It's my 4th Thinkpad machines, and it is just getting better.

Question: X1 Carbon Issues

Hello, I have had some issues with my X1 Carbon ThinkPad. There are a few others here that have similar issues.  I have the issues listed below.  Can anyone help?  I have searched everywhere and cannot find an answer.  I tried to be clear in  my description below.  Please someone help.  If you need more info please let me know. Issues1) I disconnect my laptop from the docking station to attend a meeting move to another desk and so on.  When I reconnect my laptop it takes several seconds for the monitors to recognize the now connected laptop.  I know the laptop is not in sleep because I was just using it before reconnecting 2) When the screens do turn on my primary screen goes haywire.  It keeps showing touch points while the lid is closed.  If I lift the lid the touch points and shaking stops.  If I close the lid, disconnect the laptop from the docking station, and then reconnect the laptop to the docking station the touch points and screen shaking usually stops.  Current setup:1) Laptop: x1 Carbon2) Docking Station: Onelink Doc Station3) Monitors: Using two.  Both Monitors are Planar PL2210W (I have used these monitors with other laptop station and I have not experienced these issues.

I have owned the X1 carbon for 5 months now and i've encotered some issues that have bothered me a lot. First let me start by the windows updates. Out of the box widows updates will not work on the X1 carbon or any of the new leonovos for that matter. I am supprised that lenovo has not caught that and changed it. You have to install a specfic update first then all the other. A quick google will help you figure out that but why. Currently this is my 3rd X1 carbon and all 3 i'va owned had the same issue with the updates. Next is hardware My first one had a porblem with one of the keys ont he keyboard. Called support and they were kind enough to replace my laptop but it took them 2 months to get me the new one. And i had to call every week and talk to the supervisors to get that thing rolling. So i get the second one and i even bought next business day suppor tfor it as i use it for work. after 2 weeks the right palmrest  by the fingerprint reader starts clicking evertyme i have my hands on it to type. After a month the cliking got much works it looked like some screwes needed to tighten up. I did call support and they told me that they would have to replace the keyboard but they did not have the parts in stock and they did not have an ETA on when the parts will become available. So what happened to my next business day support ?? I asked them to send me somebody to check the laptop just so we could see if there was something loos in there. The guy they send had not ev... Answer:My 3rd X1 carbon and still issues

I think there are some threads on tightening up some things that either get delivered loose or loosen up. Check notebookreview.comAs Windows updates. I've not had any issues at all on Win7 or Win8.But I have seen the problem you describe on Many computers. I'll build from scratch two identical computers, side by side. And one will get stuck on one update and the other won't.Like you said manually installing the problem update usually fixes it. Windows update isn't perfect, but this just happens sometimes and usually not too hard to fix. On one computer though, I simply had to start over and went fine the next time through.Windows update is a "Live" thing, constantly changing , probably with many redundant servers. And it's not deterministic on the client side either. It depends what you run from Lenovo first or when you decide to enable "Install updates for Other Products". If you do that early versus later things update in a different order.

Hey Guys, Been a while, just got a 3rd Gen X1 Carbon today, CTO model (with 512gb SSD upgrade only basically). Anyway the G key is a bit bent inwards, the trackpoint isn't sitting flat, the fingerprint reader is a bit loose in its housing and the laptop doesn't close flush - there's a gap in the middle area. Also the sim slot mechanism doesn't seem secure or firm at all, but I'm not sure if thats build quality or just a generic design thing.Should I ask them to swap it out ? How could I go about doing this. Looks like I'm not the only one suffering some build quality issues with these 3rd Gens.

Firstly Hello everyone, and sorry if this has been asked / solved before... I couldn't find the search option for the forum (its early, my brain is still sleeping). I have issues with getting the X1 Carbon to PXE boot, I have it connected to the network via the Lenovo USB / Ethernet adaptor, and when I press F12 the LAN option is there. This is where the problems start. One you press enter to boot via NIC the screen goes black and the text ">>Start PXE over IPv4" is displayed, this lasts for about 30 / 40 seconds before exiting back to the boot menu. It never boots through to Ghost. I have double checked that I have the TFTP server, PXE server and Ghostcast Server running correctly (and has been tested using a Vaio). Has anyone else seen this issue? Fixed this issue? Thanks for reading, and any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi everybody! I'm a past owner of x1 Carbon 1st gen (stolen right before Christmas..).I'm buying the new x1 Carbon 4th gen (website, Italy) but there are some points that are not clear to me about this beautiful ultrabook. Power adapter: it's possibile to choose between 45watt and 65 watt. From the psref it seems to me that the 45W power adapter doesn't support rapid charge. Is it right? WiGig and WWAN: they cannot be chosen togher (source psref, as on the website the WiGig is still not shown). It will be in this way also in the future, or it's only a limit of the first configs on the market? WWAN: it's not fully clear to me for an Italian guys if it's better the SIERRA or HUAWEI option (I think the first). Can you please help? Thanks in advance to the community for the help.. Giordano

Answer:X1 Carbon 4th gen - configuration issues

Hi TheRealGMC, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Yes the 45W power adapter does not support RapidCharge. For that you need 65W. I'm looking forward to the 65W Micro power adapter being available.

You are right, it's WiGiG OR WWAN, not both. This is what we were told at CES, and there was no indication that would change.

The PSREF seems to imply that the HUAWEI is a Western Europe (WE) only option. The Sierra card supports the faster LTE-A standard.

Hope this helps!

I have an 2nd generation X1 Carbon that is out of warranty, machine type 3448. For certain Red on Red gradients, and Red on Grey or Black, strange flickering black or pure red 255,0,0 flickering pixels appear. In addition to this, certain text and other things create an odd penumbra-like 'drop shadow' that is lighter than the surrounding background. The odd thing about this, is that if I go into the graphics properties, and change the brightness and contrast VERY slightly, the drop shadow issue disappears completely, and the weird flickering pixel issue improves somewhat, and 'shifts' to a different shade of red. This issue does not appear when connecting the laptop to an external monitor via the mini-displayport.Here are some pictures of the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgbxz5k2z9nd9rg/x1carbon.pngThe pixel issue is visible even in the system bios around the red dot atop the "i" in "Thinkpad", so it can't be a driver thing.I bought a replacement screen off ebay for $65, and as best I can tell the replacement screen is a counterfit, it's not exactly the same as the lenovo FRU currently in the laptop: 04X1756 N Non-MultiTouch LGD 14.0 HD+ AG TN WV 72%.The replacement arrived, I installed it, and to my dispair, when I turned the system on, a much worse bright-red 'pinstripe' effect appeared anywhere that was supposed to be solid black. Hi all, I've got real issues with my new X1 Carbon keyboard.  I've had the laptop about 10 days / 2 weeks. The enter key doesn't always fire - seems to be sticking a little on the surround.  To the left of the keyboard, the CTRL, shift and Tab keys do exactly the same - don't always fire, and stick a little on the surround. I purchased NBD warranty and had the nicest support guy turn up today and switch out the keyboard - it's VERY different to the first - keys are much harder to press, the left mouse button is harder to press (taking me some getting used to as I'm having to force it quite a bit more to click), and the same keys have the same flippin' problems!!! Anyone else got problems with this?  It's my third Thinkpad, I love them ... but I think I've made a mistake choosing something that's pushing the curve on design and new delivery from Lenovo .... Mark

I don't own an X1C, but I've been comparing it for a while with the T430u at my local Microcenter, and I'd have to agree - typing on the X1C is not as easy as it is on the T430u.  The keys are not as springy, which results in sloppier typing.

After experiencing performance issues in games (Fallout NV) and benchmarks (3dmark), I monitored the system and found out, that the problem appears to be related to tdp throttling. As you can see below, when it kicks in, the CPU and GPU frequencies drop to their respective bottoms (800mhz - 200mhz). GPU recovers, but CPU frequency remains stuck. Due to this problem performance mode is not usable, which is a pity. In balanced mode the problem appears to be more rare. What should I do? Has somebody experienced the same problem? Obviously I am using the latest drivers and updates (including bios) and didn't mess with the system (although the screenshot shows intel xtu).
Cheers

Screen always dark. I am at loss of why everything looks OK in diagnostic tools, but in reality is not. Thanks for any ideas/ tips. FM

I have a weird issue with one of my 4th gen X1 Carbons, model 20FC-S2S600 ... Whenever I rest my palm on the palmrest to type, the mouse moves unexpectedly. It usually gravitates toward the bottom left side of the screen. I am well aware that the trackpad might inadvertantly get touched while typing, however, nothing is touching the trackpad when this happens. I was able to reproduce the issue my taking my index finger and pressing down firmly on the right side of the palmrest between the fingerprint reader and trackpad. My finger was near the touchpad but absolutely not touching it. To reiterate, this is not an issue of inadvertetly touching the trackpad while typing. The mouse moves when pressure is applied to the right side of the palmrest between the trackpad and fingerprint reader. Has anyone else expreienced this issue?

We use the Carbon X1 for our sales force.  One of the users often has the following problem.  They download a sales video from our server and the sound never works on the first attempt.  He says he opens the control panel and "messes" with the volume controls and then at some point it starts to work again.  I always have him check the volume control in the taskbar and it is always on max but he does not get sound. Also, we use computer to computer video conferencing here and this same user often experiences mic and sound issues. Either it does not work or we get very low volume and very low sound pickup.  He has Skype installed on his computer which I know can be a problem...but it is not active at startup.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Carbon x1 last week, but am disappointed to say that it's causing me a lot of frustration. A lot of times the laptop will run at 60-70% CPU usage (a quick view at my processes suggests that windows is trying to install a bunch of updates); in those times my sound no longer works properly and there is quite some static. The same sometimes happens when I open a new program while there is some audio playing, the sound will crackle a bit. For example when I try to play something on netflix, there will typically be at least 5-6 minutes of crackling audio. Also Google Chrome seems to crash on a rather regular basis (I'm averaging about twice a day now), and I rarely have more than 6 tabs open. I've installed an adblocker, thinking that it may be ads that cause the crashes, but that's not helping. I'm not visiting obscure or sketchy websites or anything like that, it just happens during regular browsing. Such issues are unacceptable for a new laptop, and I was wondering if there is anything I could do? If it carries on like this I will probably return the laptop in the next few days... I am running windows 7, 64 bit on an i5-3427U CPU (1.80 Ghz), 8GB RAM. Regards,Philip

If you are disappointed so far, why would you like to keep it? Return it back and get yourself a MacBook air or the REAL thinkpad x230/t430

Hi there, since I bought this device, I am having issues with audio. It never plays where I want! If I plug head speakers, some apps will play on the head speakers, other on the regular speakers. Issues grow when you have a HDMI screen with speakers and a onelink dock... Right now I am trying to play a video on the head speakers, and it is playing on the screen, and the only way to make it work is to disable all devices except the head speakers. How can I force apps to play on one device or another? It's driving me crazy! Thank you.

All, We are having issues with an X1 Carbon USB to Ethernet Adapter.  We have logged multiple support calls with Lenovo, and all they do is send out new adapters. I now have 3 adapters..!! The issue are having is that we connect the USB to ethernet adapter to the machine, and everythings works smoothly for 3-5 minutes.  It then drops the network connection and stops working. We have updated to the latest drivers for Windows 8, changed power management settings, tested on a Windows 7 Machine, tested on 2 different networks, and different cables and we all get the same issues. Lenovo is hopeless in supporting this, so i am looking for other ideas from the community no how we could fix this.  We have another called logged, but guess what, they are sending me another adapter..  Ill have enough spare parts for life at this rate.  Any thing you guys suggest that we can try, or is anyone else expericencing the same issue? If their is any Lenovo Representitives on here, i would love a call from you to help us out.  We are a large business with over 150 laptops from lenovo, and right now, im ready to stop buying lenovo aftert all the issues we have with support on this case. ThanksScott LancasterIT Manager

Major issues after installing some updates this morning.  Now, although I cannot 100% prove it's related, I have lost: -ability to install drivers (to fix some issues), getting permission errors, and I am logged in as admin-scrolling on webpages...went into Mouse settings for UltraNav, I click the box for 1 and 2 finger scrolling, hit apply, and the box is unchecked.-opening LSC...saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Like I said, it may not be related, but nothing else has been changed in the past day or so.  The LSC updates were a lot--BIOS, drivers, etc. Running 8.1.

Answer:[Carbon X1] Request support issues

That looks very much to me as they are sending you a keyboard "CRU" stands for Customer Replaceable Unit; you are allowed to swap it out yourself.   After creating the order for the keyboard the agent would have closed the call as no further action is required, it'll probably turn up tomorrow or the next day.

As far as the battery is concerned, I've never known support to get involved in what could be a lengthy exchange of emails as there could be so many reasons to possibly explain what you are experiencing; one might be explained by the following KB article.

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/ThinkPad-battery-won-t-charge-past-50-under...

I suggest you start a new thread for the battery problem, if the above article didn't help, explaining in a little more detail with information such which OS you have installed, which power scheme you have selected and version of power manager.  You could still of course call support.

I've received an X1 Carbon yesterday (i7-7600u, 16GB, WQHD, 1TB SSD and pretty much all options) and on the first boot Windows had a number of problems during final setup.  This led to a number of "Something went wrong" messages and a freeze at one point but after a couple of restarts it finally got to the desktop. I am concerned there maybe a hardware issue but it could be the combination of hardware options/drivers. A quick hardware test in Lenovo companion didn't show any issues so has anyone else had this type of problem on first boot?

Hi I'm experiencing some problems with the combination of the Thinkpad Carbon X1 gen 2 machine and the onelink dock. The problem is basically that the X1 doesn't detect properly when the pc is detached from the onelink - and the other way around is the same (assuming that the pc hasn't been shutdown in the meantime). Anyone has experienced this or have suggestions for solution(s) I'd be happy to hear from you. Just some facts here: I have run a full system update and installed the onelink software package on the X1. Kind regards Thomas

Hey guys, So I just bought my first ever Lenovo laptop, the 3rd gen X1 Carbon. It's a great laptop, however, I absolutely hate all the extra software Lenovo puts on it. I find all of them useless and right now I'm having serious issues with the tracpkad. This happens basically:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REU5CK9X19k&feature=youtu.be Is it my unit that's faulty or have you guys experienced anything similar? My initial assumption was that it's a software issue with Lenovo's trackpad, but I'm not able to fix it anyhow.  All in all the trackpad has been a dissapointment so far and I prefer not returning this machine because of it....

Although doesn't seem as serious as that shown in the video, I do have that problem too...especially when I swipe from left to right to switch between apps. You're not alone.

Hello there,I bought my X1 (20A7) in Germany, now I'm in ghana and it broke. So I took it to IPMC (by the way, phone number in lenovos list is wrong) on 8.10.14 to get it repaired. After a week I was told i can pick it like after the weekend. After the weekend I called again to know when to pick it up, but I was told it wasn't repaired yet and it's taken to another repair centre. They said it was sent there on Friday, 17.10.14, and until now, 22.10.14 it hasn't arrived there. What to do if it got lost? Is it usual that it takes this long to repair? This is all really disappointing! What shall I do to get my laptop back fast?

Answer:X1 Carbon 2014 IWS Case issues in Ghana

Exactly 2 month after i handed my machine in i got it back. System board was replaced, but the technician forgot to set System Type, serial number and UUID.Every time i power the system up, it showed an error about this.In January, when i was back in germany, i needed to take the machine to a lenovo support again, to get this fixed. Took a really long time, but now my machine is okay again. Conclusion: IWS is nice, but the time it can take to repair a machine can be quite long...

My X1 Carbon has issues when I display on an external monitor. The issue appears to be that the option "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" does not work; when I uncheck that option and try to set the scaling level for one display, both displays get changed. . When things look right on the laptop screen, the external monitor items are too large, and when I set things just right on the exernal display, things are too small on the laptop screen. Does anyone have any other ideas? 3rd Gen Lenovo X1 Carbon 20BS (high res touchscreen), i7-5600UOneLink Dock, Driver 1.08.36, Firmware 2.24.000 (latest)Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bitIntel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.14.4206 I am fully patched and have the latest drivers. I've also tried this:http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2013/07/15/windows-8-1-dpi-scaling-enhancements/And this:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/how-connect-multiple-monitors And this:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/get-best-display-monitor

Yes, everyone has that issue and unfortunately the only way to deal with this (at least for now) is to change the size in display every time. Hi folks, We have several Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FB Windows 10 Pro laptops.  More than one of them experience WiFi connection issues. Specifically and consistently when we move from room to room on our floor.  Even if connect automatically is checked, when we get to the destination, we may get connected to the AP, but unable to access anything, until we disable/enable the WiFi adapter.  This happens everyday, everytime.  I've been in the habit of disconnecting before I move. All other WiFi devices, phones, do not experience this issue. Anyone hear about this?

Hey Lenovo, I'm writing because I have not been able to solve my Wi-Fi problems. The Intel Wireless AC 7260 is very unstable and does not update properly. I am about 10-15 feet away from my router, which normally is fine, even for my Galaxy Neus 5, but speed drops are detrimental to my usage. Often, it'll fluctuate between 3-5 bars, and occasionally drop connection completely. Here are things I've tried: -Update drivers (I am currently using 16.6.0.8, which allows me to connect. However, when I try to update to 16.10.0.5, it won't actually update, but rather it stays at 16.6.0.8. So that being said, I found a direct update installer as opposed to the Lenovo update software and was able to install it. Not surprisingly, it didn't allow me to connect to my router whatsoever. It would say that the router is not compatible, and I would have to roll-back my driver to 16.6.0.8 in order to gain internet access.)-Change power settings to maximum power.-Unselect allow to turn off wi-fi when low on power.-Installing drivers version 17 and 16.5.-Uninstalling drivers completely, reinstalling.-Restarting the computer.-Already uninstalled Norton-Running Lenovo's system update-Windows update-Firewall exceptions  Additionally, I should mention that I'm 10-15 feet away through a wall. I am positive that it's not a router issue, as I have been using this router for about half a year prior to receiving my Lenovo X1 Carbon. I am using Windows 8.1, 64 bit. Another thing I shoul... I have the newer carbon X1 laptop- (20A7-CT01WW),  i7, 8 gig, touch, 8.1 pro, WWAN, pretty much upgraded everything.  However, despite spending so much money on this laptop, I'm experiencing slow loading times on all websites and poor scrolling on all websites.  Their is a lag for both the pages loading and a lag with the scrolling.  It's simply not smooth and jerks while scrolling down or up.  I've adjusted the settings in the control panel with the speed and momentum without any success.  My older laptops load up pages and scrolls much better.  I've tried firefox, IE without much success.  From the speedtest.net website, ping is 14ms, download is 21.66 mbps, upload is 4.33 mbps using my internet provider.  This is simply frustrating with such an expensive laptop.  After going to the APPLE store and scrolling with their mac labtops I'm even that much more disappointed with this laptop and hope that I'm simply missing a simple solution.  I don't know if its really the laptop or it's compatibility with the browing software.   Any help would be appreciated

I just received my new Carbon X1 today.  I am having a problem connecting to the wifi at my office.  I was able to set up my phone as a hotspot and connect to it, so I think the wirless adapter seems to be functioning somewhat normally.  However, I have tried to connect to the company wifi several times, and it is not able to connect.  We have recently installed several other laptops and all-in-one work stations, and none of them had any issues.  I am really at a loss on which direction to go... Any advice / suggestions / help woudl be greatly apprecieted.

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.  Everything worked great under Windows 8.1.  I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue.  Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock.  For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable".  If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps.  For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop.  I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device.  All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyo... After a slight fiasco with Lenovo sending me a DOA laptop, I've been quite happy with my X1 Carbon, but the issues I'm having with my wireless are getting tiresome. The problem is I can't narrow it down to a driver issue or a Windows 8 issue. Hopefully you all can lend a hand. There are two issues: 1) When connecting to an unsecurred network in a hotel or airport (i.e. where they have a browser based authentication) the X1 won't make the connection unless I reboot the machine. Once rebooted I have no problem. Flipping 'airplane mode' on and off doesn't work. 2) The machine is randomly deciding to connect to unseccured networks. These are not networks I have connected to before nor are the SSIDs remembered names. It is doing this even if a network I have saved is in range and a stronger signal. Any help?

Answer:Massive wifi issues with X1 Carbon Touch

whubbard,

What version of wireless card do you have, and have you installed the latest version of the driver from our support site?   I note that you specify unsecurred networks ... when connecting to secured networks at home or office, are the symptoms the same?

Regarding switching to another network... is there a setting for roaming agressiveness?

I bought a new X1 Carbon (non-touch) a couple of months ago, and I'm having what I believe to be genuine screen issues with the laptop. The biggest problem is that when I view content with a gradient, the gradient bands terribly and animates. I can watch the colors change around and it's all blocky (horizontal stripes).

Is this normal? It's not just with Chrome, but any application, and I looked through the settings and couldn't find anything that would cause this, nor any settings that would change what it looked like at all.

Answer:X1 Carbon (non-touch) display/screen issues

Yes, it is called Frame Rate Control and it is typical for low cost outdated TN panels. Make sure you have set '32 bit color depth' and '60Hz refresh rate' in Display Settings. If it still persists, you (and me) are one of those people who can can't stand the side effect of the FRC. No solution except buying another notebook with more up-to-date display technology like IPS or PLS. You might try to ask Lenovo if there is another vendor of the display that might have different (less disturbing) FRC implementation. There were Samsung T61p 15" WUXGA TN panels in the past having poor FRC as well but there was an LG alternative.

I recently got a 4th gen X1 carbon, but I noticed some resolution/display issues with certain programs. I tried running Autodesk Vault, but when the program opens it looks like this:The resolution is low grade and is definitely not displaying properly. But it seems like the fill-in blanks and buttons are in the correct spot because when I hover the mouse where they should be I could click on them. I don't think its a problem with the program file because I used the files to download onto another computer and it works fine.  The resolution also looks terrible for the home screen of League of Legends, but during gameplay it is perfectly fine. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th Gen display issues with some programs

If you have one of the high-definition screen, you are seeing the dark side of screens denser than FHD.  Some applications have made no attempt to become compatible.  All I can suggest is to contact the software publisher.  I can say that over the past year, I have seen the nubber of incompatible applications has gone down.

Hello to everyone, I have a very strange problem.I've purchased X1 carbon together with OneLink PRO dock. The problem I have, is that only thing I can use OneLink together is external monitor.USB ports does not work at all, there is no voltage at output, ethernet does not work too.Button on top also works and I can put carbon to sleep and wake him up from sleep.Other stuff does not work. I noticed that dock gets veery hot after 2-3 minutes when connected to power, as well as power supply for it, even if computer is fully charged.I also noticed that red led should be on if dock is active but it is not. I mean RED led on I letter of "ThinkPad". Is there a possibility that I received blown and not working dock from Lenovo?

We've got about 2 dozen of the 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20FB, and have had a high number of display related issues with them.  At the moment, we have 3 sitting upstairs waiting for UPS to pick up for shipment to lenovo service, and one more on my desk that was just acting up.  I'm told that we have previously sent in at least another 3 or 4 laptops for similar issues.  I understand that those previous laptops had the displays replaced, and that we have yet to see a recurrence of the issues in one that has been repaired. The problems we've seen are intermittent, and generally fall into one of two categories:FlickeringVideo garbled, missing sections, or complete garbage.  The flickering is sometimes very faint, barely noticable, but other times it's more pronounced, bad enough that users complain of headaches and/or "it's going to cause seizures!" The garbage video issue is what I just saw with the laptop sitting on my desk.  It went to sleep, and when I woke it up, this was what I saw:? After a few moments, the laptop rebooted on it's own and the display was back to normal, but I don't want to send this out with a user now just to get a support call when it happens again. Is anyone else having this sort of issue?  Or did we just particularly unlucky?

Hi!I have purchased new x1 carbon gen 2 - 20A7004GRT. Everything was perfect for a five - six weeks, I was full of happiness. Few days ago , I noticed that battery was dried after 4-5 hours of office work. I was really disappointed , because before it was about 6-8 hours. After one day, pc was crashed for a few times with BSOD - irq and memory problems. I tried to backup my sensitive data and failed with it because laptop wouldn`t boot and stay work. I tried many times with some result - laptop starts and works for 1-10 minutes, after it it crashes with bsod and "flashing loop". Live cd gives same result, I cant boot to backup my data and try to install w8. On different forums I saw some people with the same problem , they talks about factory issues. On monday I want to take my laptop to official Lenovo service partner with warranty question. Please comment my situation.

Dear Lenovo Support and all others, I am posting this in hope that someone can help with my problem and also to share my unpleasant experience with a new Lenovo product. Lenovo Thinkpad X1 CarbonModel: 20A8A00VSGOS: Windows 7 Pro 64bitPurchase date: 27th February 2014Since the first day I purchased the system, I have been having an issue with my wireless connection:1. I am unable to reliably get a wireless connection to wireless access points (e.g. free wifi coffee outlets or malls) and personal mobile hotspots (mobile phone hotspots). It constantly says "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY". In other words, I cannot get internet access. Even when it does connect to the network and get internet access, there is a tendency for the connection to drop back to "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY". The only time I can get a reliable connection is when I am connected to my home wireless router. The system does not seem to have problems on home wifi networks. Since the problem seems limited to wireless access points and hotspots, I believe its a hardware/software problem. Please note that I have other  wireless devices (laptops and mobile phones) that can connect to the same networks that I am trying to connect to and have no issues.I have tested the networks with my friends' wireless devices as well and they have no issues accessing the internet so I am fairly certain that there is no issue with the networks themselves.2. I received delivery of a new thinkpad in August 2014. In December 2014, i began experiencing issues with a drop in the internet connection. After trying to resolve this via the cable company and trying other self support technical advice, it was determined that one of the drivers was faulty.
In January 2015, Lenovo fixed this for free, since it was covered under warranty.

Now, we are in October 2015 (10 months down), and I'm experiencing the same issues. When speaking with a technical service representative I was informed that since the laptop is no longer under warranty, I will have to pay out of my pocket to get this fixed. While this rep was non-chalant and didnt bother to ask about the situation, I gave it a shot again and called another rep to see if he was having a better day.
In my conversation, with the new rep, I mentioned that since this was an existing issue, it seemed to me like the repairs done were a temporary fix.
He agreed and said that I would have to call Lenovo sales (since they are IBM), to escalate this issue.

I feel at this point that I am going to run around in circles. Does anyone else have a better solution for this?

Thanks

Hi and welcome, mkoregaonkarThere aren't enough details in your post - OS vesion installed, adapter model (I hope it's an Intel wifi adapter), what actions have you performed already to troubleshoot, adapter drivers version and settings etc.Anyway, my main advice is to remove all adapter related entries (drivers, PROSet software), download the recent drivers only (w/o stuff) and install them.

Hello all,I recently received my new X1 carbon touch and am satisfied with most of it and the capabilities it has. At office, I connect my laptop to a larger screen and bluetooth keyboard and mouse for better control and better work experience. I use Logitech laser MX that I have since long time ago, at home I use a smaller logitech bluetooth mouse as well.I'm experiencing lags, after using the mouse (and keyboard) for few seconds, If I give it few seocnds I can work again for a minute or two, but for the long run it's really inconvenient. Sometimes the mouse will disconnect after couple of minutes and will not return to work until the computer will sleep and wake up again. I do not like to spend a free USB port for another keyboard since there are only 2 now. Please help!Ilan

Answer:New X1 Carbon touch 20A7 bluetooth issues (Lag and disconnecting and maybe more)

Hi Llan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that Bluetooth in your Lenovo ThinkPad X1 carbon is frequently getting disconnected.

Try unchecking "Allowing the computer to turn off this device to save power" in Device Manager->Bluetooth Radios->ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate->Properties->Power Management.

Try checking with replacing the new battery in the keyboard and mouse.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar.
