X220 wifi connection and driver problem

Question: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

My X220 can't seem to make a solid connection to wifi. It works for some minutes and then drops right down or to zero, then later returns. I ran System Update 5 and it recommended updating the WLAN driver to 17.13.11. This I asked it to do, but on rebooting to complete the installation, it didn't seem to have updated. I tried a number of times but System Update couldn't seem to get it to update. I'm running Win 7 64 bit. Can anyone help? Dev

Preferred Solution: X220 wifi connection and driver problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Im a new user of a Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop I recently bought and I have a question about the Wifi driver for this computer. My x220 has installed the "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" Wifi card running in a "Windows 7 x64 bit" system, and when I go to download the latest updated drivers from "support.lenovo.com" it gives 3 options in the "Networking Wireless LAN" section where I think the correct one for my card is marked in this picture:http://imgur.com/UqLwENow if that is the correct driver for my Wifi card my question is if it is right that the Wifi driver is a 500MB file.... I want to check with more experienced Thinkpad users if that is correct and that is the file I need to download and install.Because if I go to the official Intel website I find the driver for my Wifi card is version 15.1.1 dated 5/3/2012 with a 25MB file which seems a bit more logic for a driver file.So which driver should I download and install? I dont use the autoupdater lenovo driver manager software because I like to personally download and store all my drivers with all my computers, so any hint or clue about this question would be appreciated, because like I said it is probably the first time in my life I see a 500MB driver file, thats humongous to put an adjetive. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Question about x220 Wifi driver

The primary reason this package is so large is that it contains drivers for multiple intel adapters for both 64 and 32 bit OS's for Windows 7, Vista , and XP.  It's sort of an all-in-one package. If you use Access Connections use this package, if not then either this or the driver from the Intel website will work fine.

Answer:x220 + w8 -> unable to install WiFi Driver

Hey there xaver,

To clarify, is the update utility not downloading and installing the driver successfully? Have you tried downloading the driver for you specific machine from the Intel/lenovo site and to the desktop and installing from there? This has sometimes worked better than the update utilities.

Hi.  My X220 works perfectly in most situations. Most Wifi access points I connect to work just fine.Whenever I connect via WWAN I never have any issues. However:  there is a certain Wifi access point that my X220 cannot stay connected to.  It connects, then about 4 minutes later, the connection is dropped, and the only way to reconnect is to reset the centrino wireless adapter.  It does not matter whether I use Windows Wireless Services or Lenovo Access Connections.  After I do a reset, the connection will drop again a few minutes later.  A connection drop means an exclamation point appears with Limited Connectivity warning-- to be clear, at this point, there is zero internet access, until I reset the adapter.  This can go on forever, it does not matter if I reset 12 or 20 or 67 times, the connection will still drop after a few minutes. To be clear, in this location, every other Wifi enabled device works flawlessly.  Other laptops, iPads and iPhones all connect to this access point without incident and remain connected with excellent performance.  This is *not* a case of a defective access point.  In this location there is access point "NETGEAR" and also an extender "NETGEAR_EXT" For some unknown reason to me, my X220 cannot stay connected. About 2 months ago I sent my X220 back to Lenovo for replacement of the wireless, so I don't *think* the problem is because of the wirelesss card. I have trie... And i am less than 10 meters away from that router and NO WALL in between. No magnet, no wireless mouse, my iphone works perfect... When i move to next seat, everything backs to normal... Hello,I have recently bought a G510 laptop and all in all I like it - it does what I need it for. There is however one issue that really makes me reconsider even buying Lenovo again and that is the Wifi Card that is builtin. The Broadcom BCM43142 currently only work with the broadcom-wl kernel module under Linux and it doesn't work well. I get disconnects every 1-10 minutes that last at least a minute which makes it almost impossible to use WiFi properly. This wouldn't be so bad - after all WiFi cards are not very expensive but it turns out that all cards I tried so far are blocked by the BIOS. @Lenovo: I realise that Linux users are probably not your priority but can you please at least publish a list of compatible WiFi cards for your Laptops? Regards,Uli

I've had no issues with my X220 for the past few years, been running great to the point that I completely stopped updating the drivers or the bios...

About a month ago I decided to do an upgrade in the System Update software, just get everything up to date. That included the latest bios, and all the other drivers...

Now since I've had an annoying issue with the WiFi (Intel 6205), where after coming out of sleep, it will disconnect from the WiFi after 15-30 minutes randomly. It ALWAYS happens, and it doesnt matter if it's idle, or downloading or streaming anything. It doesnt reconnect on its own, i have to cycle the wifi switch and it will reconnect, and stay connected for the remainder of time until i put it to sleep again.

There was another WiFi update since, and I installed it, and it didn't help... It's not an access point issue, as I've tried this on several WiFi routers and it does it every time...

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I dont feel like reinstalling, as everything other than this works perfectly.

Hi guys, Previously I posted a thread "How to check & set download/upload speed". So, I just bought a new X220 to replace my old Acer laptop, and at that time I was not familiar with this X220, and I thought I had to change the setting from the Windows Network or the Lenovo Access Point software to get a higher download speed, as my download speed is only ranging around 15-30KB/S. I download using the Firefox browser. That is indeeed very slow as I'm at Singapore right now and I'm sure their speed is much more faster than that. I changed the bandwidth (something Hz) from 20 to 40Hz, but still the same. I even brought back to the store that I purchased this X220. The guy tried to download using their store internet connection and said the download speed is reasonable as their store connection is quite slow. Well, I just think 30KB/S is still unacceptable. So I just thought maybe I haven't found a high-speed wireless internet spot yet, and just now I tried to download some movies at my sister's place (dl speed is still max of 30KB/S) and thought to leave all the downloads alone, and before I left I also download iTunes from the itunes website. To my surprise, the download speed on the iTunes was like 1,5MB/S - 2,1MB/S and the movies speed were also started to increase to 300-400KB/S. And the weird thing is that after iTunes finished download, the movies download speed were also dropped down to 30KB/S. So, I had to repeatedly downloading the itunes again to get a 3... Read more

Hi everyone, Just purchased a new x220, with what I think is a great build config. I've used a T42 for the last 4 years or so after having some bad run ins with Powerbooks. Mine came with the Intel Centrino N 1000 wireless card. Had I known better, I would have opted for the 6205. The problem I am having is that whenever I get about 15 feet away from my wireless router, I lose all data transfer. My T42 and my HP Tower (and my iPhone) can connect in the exact same distances with ease and still have plenty of bandwidth. The T42 for example won't stream HD video from netflix, but it will stream SD video. The HP tower being in my room, which is the furthest point away from the router and up a level, gives me a -6x to lower 70's via inSSIDer 2.0. If I travel more than 15 feet or so from a router, I still see the network being within range and the RSSI goes to about -60. The other two computers and my phone still are a breeze browsing the web at this distance, but the x220 just acts strange. Sometimes I will get very slow data transfer, most of the time I'll see that I have a good signal to the network but it has the ! yellow icon indicating that I have no internet access. I tried this at my parent's house today with the exact same results. When I was on the other side of the wall the connection was great. I go down the hall and its gone (but still visible). I have used the recommended settings by everyone for power management, reset everything, installed new dr... Read more

I just bought a x220 4286CTO , it is a good machine but the wifi connection is really annonying .It becomes  very slow after 10 seconds or so after I turn on the wifi connection even the link status shows "300Mbps". The chip set is "intel wifi link 1000" in windows 7 64bit. I do see packet drops in ping command to web sites such as "google.com".I have upgraded to latest version of driver, v14.1.1.3 , but still no luck. I am using WPA2  PSK plus AES, other devices (iphone, ipad, T400 and etc) work well in my house.Any idea ?

Answer:X220 wifi slow problem

hey atlantisnj, uninstall the Access Connection. Try connecting using Windows built-in connection system. Does it work and are you able to maintain a good speed? If it does not, try uninstalling the current wifi driver that you have installed. let windows install its generic drivers and try again.

Good Morning to all of you! I'm searching for some advice for some problem which is troubling me lately. It's really not a big deal but it's bugging me: Every time I boot my x220 it will take 2-3 minutes to connect to my wifi network. I know it's not a big secret that all this lenovo tools installed are slowing down the computer and as a consequence the wifi software will be started with a delay but maybe someone of you knows a way or two to work around this? Maybe I can somehow prioritize the start of the wifi software? I appreciate every advice I can get.

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

Hi, I recently bought a used X220 that I am retrofitting with Win XP needed to run my software. I have fixed all bar one of the driver problems using the Lenovo download site - "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" is still being flagged up as driverless in device manager.I installed the power manager software (ghu704ww.exe from Lenovo uk www) and tried the associated patch, which was reported not needed. This was a solution from another thread, but not in this case.In addition, I cannot get it to go to "sleep". It worked in Win7, but in XP it drops out of sleep as soon as it is put in with lid close or fn F4. I suspect this may be associated. Any help most appreciated, Ralph.

Two day ago I used ThinkVantage SYstem Update and installed Intel Wifi link driver (ver 13.01.1000). But since then my computer was randomly cut off internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer. I thought it might be the router that malfunctioned as this problem never happened before. But after I checked the router and used another notebook to test wireless connection, I was sure the router ran very well. Then I re-installed the TVT Access Connection (ver 5.61) and the Intel WIFI Link Driver (ver 13.01.1000) but the problem remained. Could anybody give a possible solution?  I also noticed on Lenovo's website, the Intel wireless card driver for T61 is v13.00.0000 Windows Vista 23 Oct 2009. It's lower than what I have now. Could that be the cause? My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:Model: T61 8897CTOOS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bitLanguage: ENWireless Card: Intel 3945 ABGWireless Card Driver: 13.1.1.1 (previous one was 13.0.0.0)TVT Access Connection: 5.61

Answer:New Intel WIFI Link Driver Randomly cut off Internet Connection

Hi carlven,Anytime when wireless driver is updated, Access Connections also needs to be reistalled.Do this, first uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again. When installing any lenovo driver manually, keep in mind they first extract themselves to a default location in C:\Drivers..., second .exe setup must be run from that location to successfully install the drivers.Hope it helps.

Unfortunately you cannot stop the wifi searching for other connections all you can do is set it to automaticaly detect and connect to your router....
take a look here for how to do this...

http://www.watchingthenet.com/windows-vista-tip-how-to-setup-and-connect-to-a-wireless-network.html

*make sure your connection is secure by changing the password on the router and assigning a wireless key, preferably WAP2 PSK with a 16digit key.

Hi,
I've got a problem with my wifi. I've move on in a new flat with roommates and they're using a WEP Key for their internet connection. And that's the problem because windows doesn't even ask me to enter the key there is just an error message. I've tried to create manually the connection but it didn't work too. I've found a lot of solution on the internet but none of them worked !
What can i do ? thanks for your answer !

Hi JoelAugier and welcome
There are many possibilities. They may be using IPv4 and you IPv6, they Homegroup and you workgroup, etc

Can you ask them either not to use encryption, or use a different one?
We need a lot more information to help you so ask them. We need to know what OS they are using, etc.

Tomatocafe, do this to test. Change your wireless router to WPA2-PSK, WPA, or WEP and try connecting. Also what type of router you have?

Hi guys, hope you don't mind me asking for help in my first post, but seems there's lots of great people here that may know a solution to my problem

Basically I've had this problem for a few weeks, not sure how it started, but beforehand my laptop connected to my wifi network using the zero configuration service (Win XP), and the icon in the system tray updated as normal to show I was connected.

However, now the laptop still connects to the network, but the system tray wireless network icon still shows "not connected", and in the list of wireless networks that comes up after a double click, for my network, it says "not connected" but "disconnect" at the bottom of the window (as opposed to connect").

Now it's obviously connected, functionality is fine, just some sort of bug in this Windows Zero Configuration thingy that stops it displaying as such; problem is it's quite annoying to not know if you're connected, and not realise when you get disconnected from the network...

Any ideas (besides reformat ) how to fix this damn thing? Tried a web search but no luck...

Just recently got a new router (802.11n) to replace an old one (802.11g). OS is Windows XP. Mostly OK, but drops connection rather too often ("Problem with Wireless USB Adapter"). Also, oddly, download speeds are now sometimes faster than upload.Anyway, it must be time to replace the old wireless adapter (-g), with a new -n one. Correct? Suggestions? And with prices from around £10 to £40, are the expensive ones really worth the extra? I doubt it.

Answer:wifi connection problem

They always will be - my download is usually 15 times that of the upload

Answer:wifi connection problem

Connect to a router?
What make/modle?
Can you connect using ethernet?
What firewall and A/V are you using.
No gateway IP address and the one assigned looks more like one for a router.

Would start by turning on autoconfiguration for the wireless.

Click on the wireless icon to bring up the ststus page.
Click Properties at the bottom of the General tab.
In the Connect using box, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Maybe listed as TCP/IPv4
Click to highlight, then click the Propertis button below the box.
On the Geneerral tab, select Obtain IP Address and DNS server address automatically.
Click OK, OK, then Close.

Not sure what firewall you are usnig on the computer, but you need to be sure the wireless connection is allowed through it.
For Windows Firewall, that would be Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Advanced tab. Make sure Wireless Connection is checked under Network connections.

See if that helps. Post another ipconfig /all.

I use a Tenda Wireless connector and Firefox browser.

Although my Win 7 computer successfully provided an internet connection a few weeks ago, I now get a time expired - server not found message and cannot get a connection from this machine.

The Tenda connection dialog reports that I have a good connection, but the browser cannot connect to the internet. Ditto for other browsers and my email program, Thunderbird.

My Win XP laptop, in the same location as the Win 7 desktop, connects to the internet with no problems.

What is the problem? Is there some feature or option that is now preventing an internet connection on the Win 7 desktop that is not inhibiting a connection on the laptop running Win XP?

hi.
I'd be grateful if someone will reply to this msg.
I've been having problems with my wifi connection.
It always indicate that it has "LIMITED ACCESS" to
our network. The PC is able to see several wifi
networks but it cannot connect well. I've tried to diagnose
the hardware- networks adapters- and its working fine.
I've already tried several solutions (e.g. uninstalling-
reinstalling drivers) that I read here. But still the same
problem persist. It used to work well before and stopped
only 2 wks ago. I've used this pc for 1 yr now and never
encountered this before. All the other laptops and wifi-
enabled gadgets are able to connect to the same network.
The only one that can't is mine. Does anyone know any
solution? Thanks for taking time in reading this. I hope my
description conveyed the problem well.

hi all,

My NC10 netbook and t60 thinkpad both have the same problem in ALL wifi zones.

using microsoft wifi software it says in the bottom right 'bubble' - "wireless network detected" but then there is nothing in the list when i refresh. if i do a 'repair' it gives me the yellow triangle of doom.

i loaded Xirrus wifi inspector, and this finds the wifi networks on the radar, but when i click test i get "DNS lookup failure" and "no ip available."

in this mode if i type ipconfig i get:

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Ethernet adapter {112A751F-4EAF-49A8-A070-55995BECFB48}:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

but in device manager my wireless card is enabled, happy, and with latest drivers. what is going on?

it is worth noting that when i use my vodafone USB 3g internet (not wireless) my ipconfig data is all healthy.

virus scanner, firewall, and spyware all turned off for all of this.

thanks in advance peeps

I' using a ThinkPad with WindowsXP Professional. I am not using the IBM wireless connection program/facility but the Windows one. When I am at the local airport and try to connect with a specific wifi facility which has no security(public access) it starts to obtain the address. After a while it returns with no address. At times there as another site which has the same public security. When I try to connect to it it returns an address. The problem is that this particular site is not always available but the first one is.

Can you provide any assistance in how to fix my problem and gain access. I'm suspicious that some code or technique is not set on my ThinkPad. Unfortunately it is out of warranty so Lenovo will not provide an answer without my sending my first born.

Answer:WIFI Connection Problem

FWIW, I had a problem at an airport, and I finally got their tech support. They told me that their WiFi only worked with plain 802.11b equipment, it was a known issue. I believe it was an AT&T installation a year ago at the Philadelphia airport. This might be the same issue.

Its the way your router is set up. You can turn that off in the router web page which you got a glimpse of. using a browser type in the address (varies) and then click enter the usual web page is 192.168.0.1

We have cable internet using a wireless modem (ARRIS WTM652G) which connect fine to one of my computers using a linksys wireless antenna.

However our older laptop using a Intel (R) Pro Wireless 2200BG internal antenna can not find this Arris modem. It can locate other wireless networks around us (all secured so we can't use them) but not this network. The network key is correct and the same as my other computer which can see and connect to this network.

To check to see if the internal antenna was working we went to a Starbuck to sign on an unsecured network and we got connected.

Any suggestions to fix this connectivity problem?

Answer:Wifi connection problem

It's probable that the Intel wireless card doesn't recongise N-band networks, while the newer devices can. Would I be right in assuming that your network is N-band (as opposed to B or G)?

If so then you'll either need to install a new wireless card in the laptop (awkward and not guaranteed to be possible) or change the network's settings so a/b/g devices can connect.

Question: X220 WiFi ABGN

Question to the Lenovo community. Is there a way for me to turn on the AGN frequency on the internal wireless card? When updating the drivers of an X220, I'm seeing it being a BGN card, or simply an N card. However, I am told that the hardware specs we have are ABGN.

Answer:X220 WiFi ABGN

we card do you have? Intel 6205, 6300, 1000?

Hello, I keep losing wifi on a regular basis (several times per day). When this happens, an exclamation mark symbol appears on the wifi indicator in the taskbar.I have not been able to identify a trigger. It happens randomly as far as I can tell.I am sitting within 2 metres of the router. Non of my other devices experience connectivity problems. To reinstate wifi, I right click on the wifi icon in the taskbar and select troubleshoot problems. This always gets wifi working again. A hardware scan in Lenovo solution centre does not flag up any problems.Lenovo system update does not indicate any critical or recomended updates. There are 2 optional updates listed (Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver, ThinkVantage Active Protection System). Here are some system and wifi detailsX220Windows 8.1 ProWfif adapter: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205Driver Provider: Intel; Date: 23/09/2013; Version 15.10.4.2Router: Apple Airport Extreme I would very much appreciate it if someone could help me identify and fix the issue.

Answer:Wifi keeps dropping on my X220

Please check the Power Management tab of your WNIC in Device Manager.
If the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power setting is checked, try unchecking it.

You might also wish to doublecheck the details of the most recently released wireless driver:

This post is just as information - i solved the problem, but it might help others in the same situation or might encurage Lenovo to change something (if possible). I was adding/enabling WPA security to my wireless router and therefore should change the settings of the my connection on the X220 (along with other wireless equipment).  That was NOT possible, neither using the Win7 network options, nor the Lenovo 'Access Connection' software. After booting the X220 i could see the different access points (SSID's), but when i tried to access anything Wifi related, the Wifi system just froze and i couldn't do anything. If i started out - after a reboot - trying to change the settings (add WPA and enter pass-phrase) in 'Access Connections' i got an error message like: "The program doesn't have the rights to make these changes", when trying to save the changed settings. The solution was to delete all Wifi profiles in 'Access Connections' and start all over with detecting SSID's, entering pass-phrases and so on, for all connections.  After i did this, the Win7 Wifi functionality works correctly too. I guess that updating the 'Access Connection' software (and/or Win7) at some point 'forgot' to convert the settings to a newer layout or similar error.  But it work perfectly now! Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?

I recently was infected by and clean up a Trojan Virus on my computer; but I realized that my wifi adapter on the laptop only connects to by home wifi connection for about 5 minutes; and after that, the adapter still reads its is connected but the internet doesn't work. I also tried using my ethernet cable to connect to my internet through LAN but the internet still does not work.

But oddly, my computer works on other wifi connections. And all our other laptops also connect to our home wifi router.

Do you think the trojan damaged my wireless/LAN driver or should I reset by router?

Thanks

Answer:Home Wifi and LAN connection problem

Resetting the router usually helps, but not always. I'm not aware of a trojan that can infect a router. 9 out of 10 times malware infects the host pc - your pc. The remainder may cause irreparable problems to mobo bios, parts, etc.

You can also try removing the wifi adapter from device manager, restarting pc and resintalling the latest driver.

Make sure that the channel of your router is only from 1 - 11 as the WiFi may not be able to recieve good signal on channels 12 and 13 due to regulations in USA.

Hi,

A short while ago my fibre optic broadband connection with TalkTalk (UK ISP provider) dropped and when it came back on I couldn't connect my laptop via WiFi only by hard wire (LAN cable|).

The Ping and Traceroute tests seemed OK and TalkTalk checked everything their end with them saying that it is my laptop/network adapter/settings at fault. I had managed to regain the WiFi connection by amending some of the connection properties and used the laptop to fault diagnose my motorcycle for a number of hours however some days after when I went to use it again via the WiFi link it would, and will still, not connect.

The router is a Huawei HG533 IP address 192.168.11 and my Laptop details are below. The network adapter is Broadcom 802.11n

This is not the first time this scenario has happened but I have managed to get it all working again with the assistance of TalkTalk technical department however they state that they can not help me any further this time which means that I am now at my wits end trying to solve this problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have just got a new box that I want to use downstairs, so it has to be wireless, which is where my problems begin.
I have tried two usb adapters, one of which finds my router, but will not connect, the other does not find anything.
I have also tried two pci adapters, one old (pulled from a working system) and one new, which also find no connections at all.
My laptop, which has been sitting a couple of feet from the desktop at all times, has no problem finding and connecting to my router.
All drivers seem to install ok and the password and security settings are correct.
OS is Win7, motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3. I can't find anything in the bios that seems wrong. But as I don't know what a lot of the initials stand for, I could easily miss something.
I should add the usb adapters are from someone else so I don't know their history.
Thanks for looking.

Answer:Gigabyte m/b wifi connection problem

"My laptop, which has been sitting a couple of feet from the desktop at all times, has no problem finding and connecting to my router."
Silly question but have you tried connecting with the PC when the Laptop is switched off in case its [the Laptop's] WiFi is interfering with the PC's ability to connect?
Also try changing the Channel number in the router's wireless settings.
Most routers use either 6 or 11 as their default so try these or, if already using one of them, try the other. Avoid 1 and 2, as these use frequencies shared by other domestic wireless devices. Also avoid 12 and 13 as, in some other countries, these are not legal and consequently many WiFi adapters are designed not to connect on these channels.

Ok. It helps to know if the problem connecting is on Public hotspots or private Wifi. Forget everything you see on Youtube and blogs. As for forums like this. Everything is going to be the same, when it comes to getting answers to your questions.

That means telling the whole story behind what mfg & model of computer, if it is a Private or Public hotspot, If private, what channel or channels is it set on.

Really cannot tell you anything more at this point, without the extra information needed. But really you are going to be better by troubleshooting on your end. That may mean even going with a USB adapter with an external antenna.

Hi,

I'll say it right away I'm a newbie regarding wireless network and I don't have a lot of knowledge for wired network either. Its a shame since I'm pretty good for the rest of computer thingy...

Anyway!
I'm trying to setup a wifi access point with my P5K Deluxe on board wifi, to share my internet connection for my PS3.
The devide is enable, I installed the "Asus Wifi-AP Solo" software to control it, changed it from "Station Mode" to "Access Point". I tried WEP and WAP with password and it's at 802.11g/b and chose which ethernet connection to share. I've let the rest at "auto".

On my PS3, the console see the network(and some others), I choose mine(it's at 100%) and enter the password. Then it tries to perform the connection, exchange the password but after that it never gets an IP.

I'm sure it's a dumb thing, but I looked at the manual, checked on google, Asus forum, etc but never found a valid answer....

Help please!

Answer:Problem setting up the P5K WiFi connection for the PS3

the AP software; it also acts as a DHCP server, correct?
maybe you need to setup Internet Connection Sharing on the PC also?

that would be my guess

I've never tried setting up a PC as an AP, but you will need some sort of DHCP server. In your case, you would need Windows Internet Connection Sharing setup, so that Windows knows to share the connection, and that it will need to provide an IP address to any connecting devices.

Unless the Asus software you're using does that... in which case.. maybe there's an option that's not checked that should be?

one last thing... have you tried without setting a WEP, WPA, or WPA2 key in the AP software? Leave it open, just to test?

Hi everyone,

I have a Z51-70 running windows 10 and ever since windows 8.1, I've been having WiFi connection issues after waking up my laptop from sleep mode. Sometimes the wifi will connect automatically after waking up my laptop, other times I have to do it manually myself by clicking on the wifi icon and connecting it to my home wifi. Sometimes it takes me 2-3 times to connect to my home wifi because of connection issues.

This problem happens quite frequently and as you can tell, it gets tedious having to wait a couple seconds to almost a minute in order for me to connect to the internet. Does anyone know of a quick solution to this problem. I would gladly appreciate it!

Please help because I am seriously lost.

First let me qualify by stating I am a Novice at best when it comes to computers, so any help or replies, please bear that in mind and make your replies user-friendly for those of us who see computer language as a foreign language

Ok, I recently signed up for Comcast Internet service who uses Arris Gateway modems. Unfortunately, after the modem/internet was installed I can't get online via WiFi. This was not a problem I've ever experienced with AT&T.

I can however get on line and connect to the internet if I plug my laptop directly into the modem via the Ethernet cable. But if I unplugging the Ethernet the signal is poor to fair at best which causes me to get dropped from the internet in. Therefore, I am relegated to sitting literally 3 feet away from the modem in order to get WiFi.

The tech support came out and changed the modem with a brand new one and I still have to problem because they can't figure it out, so I checked all outdated drivers and recently downloaded the following:

1) 296.10 Notebook
2) Dell_multi touchpad
3) MB_driver_wlan-wb300d (atheros) BTW, my network adapter is the AR9258
4) Slave_driver (audio)
5) NVIDIA_MCP729_chipset V1552
6) NB_driver T1006M_wn7-32 (card reader)

All of which is totally foreign to me. I'm running Win7, 32-bit on an MSI computer.

Anyone who can offer assistance or help me resolve this problem would be of great help.

Answer:problem with printer connection using wifi

Go here click here for the user guide for your printer. Look at page 83 for printer status. It mentions pressing the wifi button.
Hopefully on you router there is a wps button. Press and hold this for a few seconds and then press and hold the wifi button on the printer for a couple of seconds.
All being well the two will communicate and establish a connection.
If that doesn't work you will probably need to connect with a USB cable briefly to sort the issue.

I bought an Acer Aspire V5 two months ago. I am having trouble connecting to the Wifi at the place I work.

It's very frustrating. My new Acer will connect to Wifis in 6 other places I've tried to connect. But not at my work.

All other notebooks, ipads etc, including my previous laptop can connect to my work wifi - except my new Acer Aspire V5!

I have tried 1) Bringing in my own router from home (which connects fine with my AcerV5 at home) and plugging it in at work - we have now tried to use 3 routers there without success. 2) Renaming the work wifi 3) Standing right next to the router with my Acer. All no use.

When I plug in my AcerV5 at work with a cable it does work, but that is no use to me as it is in the main office, I need to use the internet in my classroom. I've had two friends in who are more knowledgeable about computers than me, they are also foxed by this! A recent theory is that the windows 8 on my Acer is not compatible in some way, though it still works everywhere else I've tried. I must admit I cannot get used to Windows 8 and regret buying this notebook.

Is there anyone out there who has any idea about this? I really need help.

Richard Langford.

I have recently moved house to share with someone who has an existing wifi broadband set up. My laptop picked up the connection no problem but his wifi is security protected with a key. My flatmate set up the connection on my laptop for me using the cable connected to the router and has saved the network key on there too. Now my laptop recognises the network, connects to it by default fine with no problems. It then works brilliantly for about the first half hour I use it for each evening and then just stops working. Webpages won't load, I get admin error pages come up or it just goes on loading forever but nothing comes up. When the laptop does this it still says it is connected to the network and that signal strength is full. Oddly I can also pick up a neighbour's unprotected network with a signal strength of only limited which is faster to use once the laptop does this odd fault after the first half hour or so. Any suggestions because I'm stumped!

I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7. I am currently spending the semester in Italy, and using a Telecom Italia ("Alice") WIFi connection provided by my landlord. For the first week everything was fine. Then when I bumped the computer lightly, the computer stopped connecting. We have disconnected and reconnected the router, and I have tried my laptop on the network at the university, where it connects just fine. I thought that the program might be my Comodo firewall, so I disinstalled that. We also have changed the connection from WPA to WEP. I have disabled and reenabled the wireless network connection and disinstalled and reinstalled the Telecom Italia "Alice" software from the CD. I have reentered the security code multiple times. My computer shows the Alice connection as excellent, but it gives a message saying that it can't connect, and when I run the diagnostics, it says that it has resolved any problems, and that I should check the router, which works with other computers. Any ideas?

I'm facing this odd problem since the past day or so. Never had this problem before.

I recently changed the settings on my router from WPA to WPA2 and maybe that has something to do with it? What happens is that when I start my box, the WiFi connection does not get connected even though in the wireless networks, the WiFi connection is getting displayed

I sometimes re-start my box and sometimes delete the network driver and try a few other things and something finally works and I get connected. However it would be nice to find a permanent solution for this.

I am using XP Pro and WZC. Please let me know if you need additional details to help.

thanks.

It's like, you can't connect after you reset your connection or something, and it says "No Internet Access", and you can only connect just when your PC were freshly restart. IF you hand slipped and clicked the disconnect, you cannot connect just after you restart the PC again.
Steps repeated.

Anyone has idea about it?
Thank you

Are all computers running Windows 7? Which computer has the internet connection? Did you install the operating systems yourself, or did they come preinstalled? Did you install the drivers, or did Windows install them automatically? Do those computers support Windows 7? Have you reviewed any Windows 7 ad-hoc guides, or just the XP guide that you found?

I have a HP probook 450G1 4th Generation windows 7 64 bit laptop. My internet works fine but when I connect my phone with Connectify virtual wi-fi software, although my phone gets a connection with my laptop, the internet does not work in my phone. Can anyone please suggest me on how to get my internet working on my phone through Connectify?

Answer:Problem with Wifi connection Windows 7

Support page at Connectify is where I would start. Just browsing through it, there are several related questions. You may find the answer there.

I have a new X220, with Windows 8 added on to the stock W7.  After lots of time on this forum, I have learned to use the Intel wireless drivers not the Lenovo-distributed ones, and that there are lots of other applications from Lenovo that need to be updated or "adapted" to Win8. But worst of all, a 5-year old X60 has far better wireless performance (connectivity to the access point, and throughput) than my very new X220.  Atheros chipset in the X60 and Intel in the X220. What gives?  Is this the advance of technology?  My X220 suffers from drop-outs and the X60 reliably connects and shows throughput.  I mean like up to 8 Mbps.   Is there a substitute wireless card (mini-pci or whatever) that I can replace the Intel unit?  Any other options other than a 30 meter wire?  --J

Answer:x220 WiFi is terrible; stick with X60?
