I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My TrackPoint is off center, as in when I take the dome off I see the soldered trackpoint hardware and its skewed to the bottom left. When I put the red cap back on, it touches the letter B and its closer to H and far from G key. I have a feeling a lot of the times my trackpoint moves by itself and is caused by this fact. Anyone else have an off centered TrackPoint?

You know that rubber stick between the G and H keys on the new Carbon X1..? How do I replace it? In the old Thinkpads you could just yank it out, but with the X1, it seems to be stuck. Mine is working fine, I just want to replace it with the cat's tongue/classic type of eraser head. Would this be safe to do or might it scratch/dent the screen?

Answer:How to change Trackpoint on Carbon X1?

Download the manual for your computer. That will tell you how to change out the trackpoint but (I haven't seen the x1c yet) the trackpoint there may well be smaller. Here is the LINK for the x1c maintenance manual

I want to report several issues with TrackPoint. Basic InfoLaptop: X1 carbon 3rd genModel: 20BT-CTO1WWOS: Windows 10 Pro (upgraded from Win 7 Pro)TouchPad driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver ver. 19.0.17.2  Issue 1: TrackPoint does not work with MS Office 2016 (except Word).Mid button + TrackPoint cannot scroll horizontally in Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote. Scrolling vertically works well.Horizontal scroll works well with Word 2016, Notepad, Microsft Edge, Firefox, etc.Horizontal scroll works well in Excel 2016 with ThinkPad mouse (model: MORFGOO) with mouse suite. Issue 2: TrackPoint calibrates even in mid button + TrackPoint mode.If you tilt TrackPoint steadily for a few seconds, it calibrates and takes it as new zero position. This is a correct behavior. If you hold mid button and tilt TrackPoint steadily (i.e. scrolling), it should never calibrate. This is another correct behavior which was seen with my previous ThinkPad notepads. However, my X1c TrackPoint calibrates even when mid button is held. After 0.5~1 seconds, the scroll stops. When releasing, the mouse pointer moves automatically. This is annoying. Issue 3: Mouse pointer changes size when mid button is pressed. The same as this post.  I use TrackPoint a lot with Excel and the above issues lower efficiency.I hope there will be new Synaptics driver to resolve the issues. btw, I'm not sure which is the best way to report bugs, because there are tooooooo many Lenovo and ThinkP... This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. I checked the Lenovo assistant and all drivers are updated. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

I just got a X1 Carbon 4th Gen and the trackpoints are different than they used to be. The hole is much smaller than the old design. I have been trying to find a part number but haven't had any luck. My favorite is the concaved version, but I would like to find any version at this point. Thanks for any help!

GreetingsFirst time posting seeing if anyone else is having issues with the X1 Carbon trackpoint/touchpad freezing up on Windows 8.For me it is freezing up every 20min while I am using it, and also when I unplug the AC power. The mouse will freeze up but the keyboard works fine. Usually I am forced to reboot.A USB mouse will work fine during this freeze. I have tried installing all windows updates, Lenovo updates and even system recovery to a date when I didn't have issues but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have this issue? Its been very frustrating owning this x1, as I am on my second one after the first one died on me.

Answer:X1 Carbon trackpoint/touchpad freezing

Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Answer:New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

Hi.

Just in case here it is a pointer to the Support site of the X1 Carbon.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/x1-carbon-help

I guess you have the 5th Gen, can you validate that?

What about the driver listed on the support site of the 5th Gen ? It seems to have some Synaptics driver and even some firmware update for it. Have you tried installing those ?

If you don't have the 5th Gen please specify the model to find the correct support site.

I think most users know that TrackPoint has an auto-correction mechanism to avoid permanent physical tilt. That is, when TrackPoint is pushed towards a direction with constant force for several seconds, that direction will be corrected as "zero-point". Therefore you'll observe a counter-movement when releasing TrackPoint. What I want to mention is that, back on X220, if you press middle-button when pushing TrackPoint, the above mechanism will never be triggered regardless of how long or how hard you push. This is a correct and thoughtful design, because when middle-button is pressed, such tilt should be user-generated rather than permanent physical. However, on X1 Carbon (3rd gen), the auto-correction mechanism will be triggered even when middle-button is pressed. This is NOT a correct behaviour.I guess such behaviour is coded in Synaptics driver.  If so, please kindly contact them to correct this behaviour. Thanks.

I just start using X1 Carbon Gen 2 and find that the Trackpoint is way too slow.  I have used Trackpoint for more than 10 years in various models of Thinkpad and get use to Trackpoint.  Every model of Thinkpad that I used, the default setting of Trackpoint which is in the middle, is too slow but after adjust to fastest, it work fine.  However, for this X1 Cargon Gen 2, it is still too slow after adjusting the speed to fastest. I have updated the device driver few days ago, it does not help. Any suggestion?

Answer:Trackpoint "too slow" proglem of X1 Carbon Gen 2

Same problem on the x240.  I set the trackpoint speed to max, mouse speed to max, and turned off the "enhance cursor precision" option (which also slows the cursor), and still feel like I'm effortfully pushing the cursor around the screen with the trackpoint.  It's completely unacceptable and basically ruins the trackpoint for me.  Last night I got on my old x201 and it was like a breath of fresh air... just tap the trackpoint and it immediately goes where I want.  The constant pressure on the trackpoint of my x240 is also making it lose it's inertia settings so that it frequently just drifts uncontrollably up or down the screen. Perhaps there's a registry setting to increase it's sensitivity? It's just terrible what they did to the trackpoint on this generation.  I can partially live with the virtual buttons, but the loss of sensitivity and the removal of the press-to-select function of the trackpoint are terribly dissapointing in the new X series.  They should take the red-dot off of the lenovo marketing.

Hi,For several months now, I have been having problems with the trackpad. It would start behaving erratically, usually after 15 or more minutes, and eventually right from startup or wakeup. Things would usually be better for a bit after a restart, but not for long. I just turned off the trackpad and switched to the trackpoint. It too starts to fail after a while, though I can often get it to work again by opening the laptop up to 180 degrees. This doesn't last, so now I am always carrying a usb mouse around. Ocassionally, on wakeup the keyboard does not work, but it often starts working after a few minutes.During this same period, I have had crashes - i.e. blue screens. This has only happened a couple of times when I am actually using the laptop, rather, it almost always happens when the computer is going to sleep or going into hibernation, or so I think. I have also noticed that the laptop sometimes has trouble going to sleep or into hibernation, or starting up again after a crash. Again, opening up the laptop often seems to help. I recently bought a refurbished Carbon X1. The trackpoint and the touchpad top buttons don't work. The touchpad and bottom button do work. Touchscreen does work. So far, everything else has been okay. The "Enable Trackpoint" checkbox is greyed out in Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Thinkpad tab. After searching forums and web, I have tried the following, none of which have worked:- update all drivers - ensure windows 7 updates are up to date- uninstall lenovo driver and install synaptics driver (didn't work)  then reinstall lenovo driver (didn't work)- disable and enable trackpoint in BIOS (with reboots in between)- reset, power off, and reset via the hole in the base No luck so far. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I got a slightly used X1 Carbon 34XX version (2013 model) recenetly. I have been using t430 for quite a long time now but now when I'm on X1 carbon I notice that the Left-key with the trackpoint is not registering properly..when I click on the area close to the scroll key, which is naturally where my finger presses, The key goes down to its seat but it misses registry and often creates problems when I drag items. I have to push it down with an extra force to make sure the key wont miss. The same key works very responsive when I click on the other end (left end) of the key. But near the scroll key it feels as if something underneath the key has shifted or something...I tried tapping it, hitting it, pulling it upwards and pressing it hard but none of that helped. I was wondering if anyone could provide me help on how to remove this key and clean whats underneath and fix it. I know how to remove the keyboard but not sure how to get to this key. Thank you

Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad and trackpoint on the X1 Carbon without going into bios? I am able to disable touchpad OR trackpoint by going into mouse properties in control panel but it won't let me do both.  I would like to turn it back on relatively easily if possible. I am trying to do this on a work computer and I have no administrative rights and I am using Windows 7 Professional. Can this be done or did Lenovo completely overlook such a simple feature?

Answer:Completely Disable Touchpad & Trackpoint on X1 Carbon

you can only do this through the BIOS menu. I guess, the reason it is not implemented in a software setting, is due to the fact that not many people in the enterprise environment requested this feature. Is there a specific reason why disabling the trackpad and leaving the trackpoint on won't work in your situation?

The TrackPoint on my X1 Carbon stopped working this morning for no explicable reason. I made sure it's enabled in the BIOS, and uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav drivers. When I go to the Ultranav settings the "Enable TrackPoint" section is grayed out. Why would this happen all of a sudden? Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

Hello all, my X1 Carbon is acting up. Trackpoint and Trackpad are not working together after a week of use. However after reading some threads the only way I could get the Trackpoint to work was to disable the Trackpad via "Enter" when the computer boots up (Bios Menu). I've tried everything now, uninstalling drivers and installing new ones, rebooting laptop from factory. The only way for the laptop to have any control over the mouse cursor is through the Trackpoint by disabling the Trackpad which is annoying to just know that the pad doesn't work. Any solution? Help!

Answer:X1 Carbon Model 3444-2DU Trackpad and Trackpoint

if this is the case, then you should call up Lenovo and ask for repair or replacement. The Trackpad buttons must be acting up or there is a shortcircuit somewhere in the trackpad circuitry.

Hello all - I have an X1 Carbon that is only a few weeks old and have had nothing but problems...please see the list below.  They all seem to be somehow interrelated but I simply can't find a solution.   When powering up, the computer freezes mid start up (at the windows icon screen) until various buttons on the keyboard are pushed.  I've waited in excess of 5 minutes to start up to test this out...it seems that 100% of the time the computer will not start on it's own by simply pressing the power button.Once the computer does get to the start screen, the mouse cursor slowly drifts on its own across the screen until several more buttons are pushed on the keyboard to stop it (hitting right click a few times usually works).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home. While in the Google Chrome browser, the tabs close when clicking them instead of switching to that tab.  Restarting the computer resets this, but throughout the day it will keep occurring.  Hitting the middle click fixes this temporarily (but that leads to a different problem).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home.  This also has about a 100% failure rate after the computer wakes up from a sleep mode as well as sporatically throughout the day.Due to problems with trackpoint, my default is to keep trackpoint disabled.  When trackpoint is enabled, the cursor sporadically will change to som... I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

Hi, I'm long time X / ThinkPad user and I have few issues that are making me crazy.1) I'm mostly using TrackPoint. It happens quite few times in some hours that mouse starts to slide to diagonal position. I can stop this by either having computer go to sleep or trying to move mouse on mousepad for 10-20 seconds until computer figures out that I'm on omusepad. Today it happened 3 or 4 times in an hour2) When I'm moving mouse with TrackPoint and stop it somewhere (for example on button) I often need to click a few times until mouse click is detected (using TrackPoint buttons)3) When I am using MousePad and I move fingers slow it moves in a shaking way or sometimes does not detect my finger movement4) It has always worked that when I was using MousePad (for example T460s) when I was sliding with one finger from point A to point B and then pressed with second finger it triggered Right Click. Now I need to slide from point A to B with one finger, remove finger from MousePad and tap with two fingers All the drivers are up to date and all windows updates are installed as-well.

So this is the second time I am experienceing a problem with my x1 trackpoint and with the debacle of shipping that happened last time, I don't want to have to go through this again. I have sent my unit into lenovo for the same problem about 2 months ago.  the problem is similar to the one outlined here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-erratic-trackpoint-Synaptics-19-3-4-99/td-...). the mouse finds a home in the bottom-left or top right corner.   However, I perfer the touchpad to the pointing stick, so this probably is not be a hardware problem (or it is and it's just faulty hardware from the start).   All I literally want to do is disable the trackpoint pointing stick.  but when I do, it disables clicking so that's not an option.   I really can't afford to go another 2 months without my laptop again.  not now.    Edit: I goofed my lefts and rights

I don't have this exact issue but my scrolling is very choppy, especially using the Touchscreen (but the Trackpoint and Trackpad too).  Does the same issue occur for you with the other scrolling methods? For me, it's like the X1 is having a hard time keeping up with the web pages but the lines/elements do load eventually.

The new 2014 X1 Carbon got rid of the physical buttons for the trackpoint.   I am adjusting to that.  However, in more than one unit we are piloting we have an issue. A user that mainly uses the TrackPoint stick, will use their right thumb to left click constantly.  We are finding it to not be consistent.  And it often results in the user having to click twice on things. We have tried to adjust the "Edge Tap Filtering" - though I don't think that is related, as that is focused on taps, not clicks. Some people tried to turn off the "middle button" and focus there thumb more towards there.Overall, we believe the adapative keyboard, the physical keyboard changes and the trackpad button changes are all things people can evolve and get used to.   HOWEVER, if left-clicking is not accurate, it will drive people crazy and hurt our forecasted 500+ unit order. I am praying this can be resolved by a driver update.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

TrackPoint sometimes suddenly not working during using.3. The middle button sometimes just frozen and cannot be used to scroll the page. Methods I have tried:1. Uninstall / Reinstall the driver provided by lenovo (19.0.12.61), windows auto-update (19.3.4.22)2. I also tried to use the driver that is originally for T430s and T430But NONE of those methods work. Answer:Trackpoint and touchpad not working in Windows 10

Is it showing in device manager? If so is it showing that there is a problem? Is the ultranav software working? If not you could try re-installing the ultranav software or rolling back the drivers if everything shows that it is fine. Good luck.

Hi all, Since installing Windows 10 I am unable to change the sensitivity of the Trackpoint. I have to press insanely hard to get the cursor to move at a reasonable speed and it makes the machine rather useless for me. In Windows and 8.1 I had the options to change the sensitivity so the cursor would move on a light touch of the Trackpoint. Why has this function been removed? And is it coming back? X230 is officially supported for Windows 10 so you would say you at least get the options of changing the sensitivity. The latest drivers are installed using Lenovo System Update. At this point I'm seriously considering downgrading to 8.1 just to make the Trackpoint usable again. Thanks!

I just upgraded my X301 to windows 7 and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the touch-pad. So, when I comfortably use my keyboard and trackpoint, I am constantly selecting things. The XP control panel interface had both separate sensitivity controls and the ability to turn the touchpad completely off. This doesn't exist in the Win7 ctrl panel and I can only find one driver suite for windows 7 on Lenovo's site. Any ideas?

Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... Hi, I bought my Carbon Touch looking forward to activating with Verizon and replacing my current 3g ipad.  After hours trying to figure out how to enable broadband, I find out that apparently the "touch" models don't offer it.  Can someone at Lenovo explain how they can have promotional materials like the page at http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-touch/ that says "ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch" and "Embedded 3G Connectivity" while not offering it at all? Then, I thought I'd return the Touch and get the regular Carbon, but I'm seeing now that, despite all of the reviews and promo materials that say otherwise, it doesn't support Verizon either.  How can this be true?  Just about every review that I read about these laptops is flat wrong on these topics.  What's the scoop? I tried calling technical support a couple of times and they were of no help.

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch WWAN (Carbon does not support Verizon and Carbon Touch has no 3G at all)

jprny,

Welcome to the Support Forums! I can definitely understand your confusion and I know you must be frustrated. I can clarify that the WWAN is optional in the X1 Carbon, from the same link you provided you can open the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook Specs it states there is Optional 3G WWAN.

Here is the the X1 Carbon Personal Systems Reference (You will find the X1 Carbon Touch on the very bottom)
This shows the different models of the X1 Carbon and what specifications are included. Unfortunately, I only see AT&T as the 3G provider on the standard models. From the Parts List it looks like there are other options to choose from that would make it a configured to order machine. You may want to contact Verizon to see if any of the WWAN cards work with their network.

I would recommend contacting the after sales team:

Hi, diglett

There is another driver you could try using and see if it helps. Here you will find the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that also makes the UltraNav driver. The driver is the base Synaptics driver, but it should have most, if not all, of the functionality of the UltraNav driver. You can find the driver here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

The trackpoint freezes and I can not move it anymore. To solve this I need to do an Alt+F4 to close password Manager and get back trackpoint control.  The error is intermitent, it had happened me twice on that page, but I don't know the exact stepts to reproduce it.RegardsMartin

Answer:Windows 8 - Firefox - Lenovo Password Manager - Trackpoint freezes

Hi, Martin

Have you tried to reproduce this error in other browsers/other versions of Firefox? Also, has this error ever occurred under any other circumstances? Finally, does the mouse or the Trackpad freeze? If you can, try reproducing this error with an external mouse connected and see if you can move the mouse with that.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

My ThinkPad Twist (s230) works amazing with Windows 10 except for one nagging issue: the TrackPoint and it's buttons (the three buttons between the trackpad and the space bar) to do work after resuming from sleep.  The only cure is to restart the computer, which is a hassle if I had a lot of programs/apps running..  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo drivers and the BIOS and all other devices are up to date.  My install of Win 10 was a clean install, not an upgrade. Any suggestions?

Ppl,I own a T420i (with Win 7 & Office 2010 pre-loaded) which was purchased a couple of months back. Everything was working perfectly till the Touchpad and the trackpoint stopped responding. I suspected this to be caused by a recent windows update. This analogy was partly correct due to the following:On restoring the system to a point prior to the windows update, the Touchpad and trackpoint started functioning correctly. Thereafter, I installed the windows update again and still the Touchpad and trackpoint worked perfectly. Last night, I put the laptop on sleep mode and to my surprise, since today morning, the Touchpad and trackpoint have stopped working again! Even after repeated restarts of the system, the devices aren't operational. The interesting fact here is that an external mouse connected via the USB port was working prior to the windows update and still continues to work.Would be grateful if you could suggest a way out.Thanks.

The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations. The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. I used the 1st gen X1 Carbon for a while and found out that it's very robust and the touch feeling is very good. I guessed that all sides (A+B+C+D) of it are made by carbon fiber. Correct me if I'm wrong. But when I use my X1 Yoga 1st gen, which has only carbon fiber on A side (the cover behind screen) and uses "Super Magnesium" on C+D sides (the cover around keyboard and behind the keyboard), this design bring several problems: 1. " Super Magnesium" is still metal, if you crash it by accident, you may leave a scrath on it permanently, this happens more on edges;2. what's more, the paint at the edge of " Super Magnesium" will be rubbed away with time goes on, and you will see the white metal not the ThinkPad black;3. metal will suffer from deformation by force;4. the D side of my X1 yoga feels loose when you hold it with one hand, which make you feel cheap of this $1500 machine. Thus I hope the next gen of X1 Yoga or X1 Carbon can provide a pure carbon fiber version, for better build quality and user experience. How do you guys think about it?

I haven't spent much time on a newer MBP, but it's very equivalent to a MBP a few generations back, but is brighter. It's for sure usable, and while IPS would be prefered, I can easily live with it daily.

Folks - I have two X1 Carbons sitting in front of me, both running Windows 8.1, trying to connect to my Samsung TV.The X1 Carbon (2014) has display corruption on WiDi, while the X1 Carbon (original) works fine. On the 2014 X1 Carbon, you get display corruption, and choppy squeaky audio every few seconds. With the original everything is smooth as silk. Any thoughts? I've already run Lenovo System Update on X1 Carbon (2014) as well as Windows Update, so everything is up to date. Don't know what else to try? Clearly, it's not the TV, nor the router, nor interference - since one machine works and the other doesn't... Thanks!

Does anyone know whether the displays of either the X1 Carbon or X1 Carbon Touch currently available on the Lenovo website are IPS, and if not, what panel type they are? The sales reps have told me conflicting things. On the product configuration screen, the display types are listed as 14.0" Premium HD+ (1600x900) LED Backlit Display, 720p HD Camera, No WWAN and 14.0" MultiTouch Premium HD+ (1600x900) LED Backlit Display, 720p HD Camera. No, it is an outdated low resolution TN panel again with better than Lenovo usual almost zero contrast (below 150:1). Quote from Lenovo shop:Multitouch Premium ? Optimized for Windows 8, 10-finger touch on select ThinkPad models allows for fluid tablet-like interaction. Intuitive navigation enables browsing, scrolling, using apps, even gaming, with a simple swipe of the touchscreen. A capacitive touch panel trigger actions immediately, and the cursors follow your fingers around the screen without any perceptible lag or delays. Review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-Touch-Ultrabook.89901.0.htmlLP140WD2 TLE2, TN LED, Contrast: 885:1

Why is this happening? It's as if I need to bring up an invisible program in the background by clicking on the taskbar to ge the thing working. Not only does the VOLUME buttons not work, MUTE and MIC toggle buttons don't work as well. Does anyone else have this issue? Surely I can't be the only one.. This problem is consistent. Running Windows 7 with latest OS updates AND thinkpad updates.

Hi,Iv just purchased an X1 carbon which surprisingly came with windows 7 professional. The leaflet which came with the laptop says : getting started with windows 8.1. Moreover on the back side of the laptop, I have Win 8 Pro sticker. Iv tried to restore the laptop using lenovo tool maybe it restores to windows 8.1 but to no avail. Any suggestions are appreciatedThanksIain

Answer:x1 carbon came with windows 7

Welcome to the forum.

Some models of the X1 come with Win7 and others with Win8/8.1.

To further complicate matters, some models that came with Win7 were sold as "Windows 7 Professional 64" and others as "Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64."

The former has a Win7 key and can't be upgraded to Win8.1 without buying a separate upgrade license.

The latter has a Win8.1 key and was downgraded to Win7. It should be upgradeable to Win8.1 when you decide to do that.

My Carbon X1 20bt is experiencing major problems with fingerprint reader and Windows 10. Everything was working fine with Windows 8.1 and the Lenovo software. After upgrading to 10, the Lenovo software was automatically deleted I guess because Windows 10 fully supports sign in with fingerprint. When I read my print in to Windows HELLo, it NEVER recognizes it when signing in. I have read it in to the system multiple times, but have never succeeded to log in with it. This problem has been existing for some time, but yesterday I was doing maintenance to my friends x240 and noticed her reader work without enabling Windows Hello. She didn?t have the pin installed for Hello and the reader worked just fine. On my X1, I have to put in the pin number to Hello or the whole reader is disabled. There was fingerprint reader driver update coming to x240 which I didn?t instal naturally. I tried to instal the 8.1 drivers back, but was unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated, this is anoying!

Hi guys,  I've a T430u on windows 8 and I find windows 8 extremely unusable with settings and patterns all over the show.  I want to buy the new carbon x1 and I'd love to have it with windows 7 professional, but I'm wondering if there are any feature/hardward disadvantages to running windows 7 instead?  Would the touch screen still work for example? Fingerprint? As soon as I get a reliable answer on this, I'll place the order, cant wait!!!  Thanks!!

Howdy, After I resume from sleep/closed lid, all the open windows/programs are resizing to a smaller portion of the screen (like it thinks I was using a different resolution for the screen setting).  Only does this since upgrading to Windows 10.  Thanks for any help.

Hi Everyone, I am trying to deploy Windows 10 to a Lenovo X1 Carbon using Windows Deployment Services (WDS) from a Windows Server 2008 Standard Server. In order to perform a PXE boot my Lenovo requires the use of a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter. With the adapter I am able to boot with PXE however I am unable to install Windows 10 (or other operating systems). I am seeing a network device error message. Initially I suspected that this was due to the deployment image not containing drivers for the USB Ethernet adapter. I therefore added the adapters drivers to the deployment image, however unfortunately I am still receiving the same error. If anybody has any suggestions on how to overcome this issue they will be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, David

I've been using my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. for about a month now. Immediately updated Win8 to Windows 10 - all my drivers and Windows is updated, except WiFi which is at 10.32.05. My brightness is always at 50% and using 200% scaling - I only get about 4 to 4.5 hours backup on this machine, without running any games, graphics/video editing/office software. In fact, I only use Chrome and usually have about 10-15 tabs open. No videos in those tabs, text sites. Only WiFi remains on - no bluetooth etc. Why such a low backup? Or is this "NORMAL" for X1c 3rd gen on Windows 10?

I just upgraded my X1 Carbon from Windows 7 to 10.  I followed the instructions from the Lenovo site.  They recommend that after the upgrade, I should go to get the latest drivers from http://www.lenovo.com/support.  When I follow that link, I get to a page that does not include the option for X1 Carbon. Can anyone please help me find the Windows 10 drivers?  Also, I can't find the Windows 10 Thinkvantage tools - have they been replaced by something else?   Thank you in advance...Ron

I recently bought an X1 Carbon (Type 20FB) with Windows 7 preinstalled. I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 this week but I keep getting the popup:                                  Something Went Wrong                                  Not Enough Disk Space, please run Disk Cleanup an try again. Error code: 0x80070070 I'm pretty sure the problem is with Lenovo_Recovery partition which is 1MB shy of being full (Partition size is 12.7GB). I also tried cleaning up the recovery disk but with no luck. Thoughts?

Will there be drivers available for X1 (not carbon) running windows 8.1? Drivers were available for win 7 and 8, but 8.1 is not fully supported - yet. Currently only a few of the components are supported by win 8.1 drivers. Especially the missing Wireless LAN driver is annoying, since the default win 8.1 driver (which I am stuck with for the moment) limits the bandwith to a low speed (...say 1-2 Mbit/s) Should I wait and hope for drivers being released, or am I forced to downgrade to win 8 (or perhaps 7) to have full driver support?

Answer:X1 (NOT Carbon) drivers for windows 8.1

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and thanks for the patience. Windows 8.1 is totally a new approach and cannot be just considered as an update to Windows 8. Hence, the compatible drivers has to be redesigned so that they work properly in Windows 8.1. As of now, I cannot commit the exact arrival date of the missing drivers for X1. You can expect it in a few days, maybe a week or even a month for the full and final release of all the drivers.

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi, I've been planning to get an X1 Carbon for the last couple of months. However, I do have a few questions that have kept me from pulling the trigger on the order. Maybe someone from Lenovo or otherwise in-the-know could help answer these: 1. Will there be an update for the device firmware to support UEFI secure boot with Windows 8?2. Will there be an update from TPM 1.2 to 2.0? I'd really like to have the connected standby feature. Basically, what it comes down to: Are currently sold X1 Carbon models going to be updated so they pass the Windows 8 logo requirements or will there be new model variants introduced with the Windows 8 launch in October? Best regards,-Jan

Answer:Is it possible to install Windows 7 on X1 carbon? THX

Is it possible to install W7 on an X1 Carbon? Yes, the earlier models even came with W7 preinstalled and W8 as an option, so all drivers are readily available and all components are supported Does an X1 Carbon automatically have a downgrade license to W7? No, not necessarily, this depends on the configuration. In order to check this, call Lenovo support. They should be able to determine / validate this.

I have also tried creating a new admin account and install it there, that did not work either. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It may be the copy protection and a recent Windows update. Do you need a disk in the CD/DVD drive to run the game?

Also, how long has this been happening?

I'm about the place an order for the X1 Carbon 3rd. gen. with non-touch QHD display, which will replace my trusted X301. I'm wondering which version of Windows I should choose. Would I miss out on any important features by going for Win 7 (which would be my natural choice) instead of 8.1? For instance, would scaling program icons and text, or graphics performance, be better implementated in 8.1 than in 7?

I am trying to install windows 8 from the 3 disks that came with the X1 Carbon. There is no DVD drive and we have no external disk drive, so I need to create a bootable USB for this. The laptop came with windows 7 on it. It is easy to use DISKPART to ready the USB as a bootable device, but how to I take the data from the 3 DVDs and put it onto the USB so that it works? The first one only has drivers but the OS install is split onto two disks. I referred to a KB article but it was talking about autorun files that are not present on these DVDs. The DVDs I have are labeled as (1) Applications and Drivers Recovery Disk, (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 1 of 2], and (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 2 of 2].

Hello there.I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Carbon which came pre-installed with Windows 7 Pro, but also included a Windows 8 Pro upgrade DVD.Now, as you probably know, the X1 Carbon doesn't have an optical drive so I can't actually use this disc.My question is if there is any way for me to use this via a USB flash drive as I don't own a USB optical drive. The label on the DVD itself says"Operating System Recovery DiscWindows 8 Pro (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)"The files on the disc are not the usual files you'd see on a Windows installation disc.Does anyone have any experience with this? As of right now, it's basically cheaper to get the upgrade directly from Microsoft rather than buying a USB optical drive.

Hi everyone, This is driving me nuts now..  For a few months I was happily using the fingerprint scanner to login to my X1 carbon Gen3 under windows 10, a function called Windows Hello. After I did a system reset last week, Windows hello no longer shows in my sign in options.  Things I have tried:- Added a pin for my account- Updated the driver for the fingerprint scanner- Uninstalled and re-installed the fingerprint scanner driver multiple times The fingerprint scanner is there in the device manager but Windows hello is still not showing up. Any idea please?

Answer:X1 Carbon 2015 - Windows Hello not showing

I have been having the same problem since the last update was pushed out for Windows 10 Pro. I did not reset anything as I was hoping that a fix would get pushed out, but it is very annoying to say the least. My fingerprint scanner lights up at boot and then goes dark when I attempt to use it. I can go in and add and remove fingerprints through settings so it has to be something with the Windows Hello and not the scanner itself.
