X230 Trackpoint problem after Win 10 upgrade

Question: X230 Trackpoint problem after Win 10 upgrade

I have thinkpad x230 which was running the stable and well supported windows 7. I upgraded to windows 10 a couple of days ago and I updated the synaptics driver from 16.2.19.14 to the latest one lenovo released 19.0.12. 61 but the trackpont scrolling is bad and not smooth. In addition, I can't find any option to change the sensitivity of the trackpoint. I went back to the old driver I used in win 7 (16.2.19.14) and smooth scrolling is back but trackpoint scrolling isn't working in start menu, edge browser or any metro app. I appreciate your help!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: x230 trackpoint

Hey,sometimes when I move my pointer somwhere and then release trackpoint the pointer goes a little bit backwards. Can it be fixed?Regards

Answer:x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31.  Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left.  If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly.  At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.

Hello, I have a Lenovo X230 and have a quick question, is it possible to disable the TrackPoint knob (the red knob) while keeping the buttons active? Disabling TrackPoint through the UltraNav driver results in having both the knob and the buttons disabled, the same thing goes for disabling it in the BIOS. Note that this model only has those two buttons build in while newer Lenovo models has two pairs of buttons (above and below the TrackPad). See: http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62218216/1.jpg

Answer:X230 - Disable TrackPoint but not buttons?

you can in a way. Just select advanced feature only within the ultranav selection for the trackpoint. This way the trackpoint nib would only act as page scroller and won't move the pointer per se. Then you can switch the trackpoint sensitivity to firm touch. This is what i do for people whom can't use trackpoints.

Hi all, Since installing Windows 10 I am unable to change the sensitivity of the Trackpoint. I have to press insanely hard to get the cursor to move at a reasonable speed and it makes the machine rather useless for me. In Windows and 8.1 I had the options to change the sensitivity so the cursor would move on a light touch of the Trackpoint. Why has this function been removed? And is it coming back? X230 is officially supported for Windows 10 so you would say you at least get the options of changing the sensitivity. The latest drivers are installed using Lenovo System Update. At this point I'm seriously considering downgrading to 8.1 just to make the Trackpoint usable again. Thanks!

I never do these, but after extensive searching and trouble shooting without results, here I am.I have a Lenovo x230 laptop (2306cto model number) . The keyboard on it was having buttons stop working after extensive use, so I purchased a replacement keyboard for it (model CS12-84US). The keyboard is identical the previous one, including backlight functionality, and trackpoint. I swapped the keyboards, and all of the buttons started working again perfectly, except for the trackpoint mouse (little red button thing), the trackpoint mouse buttons, and also the backlight function for the keyboard (the Fn + Space only turns on the overhead light seated next to the webcam). I tried reseating it a few times, I checked all of the ribbons to ensure that there are no rips/tears, etc. I checked drivers again and again. The trackpoint section under the UltraNav Mouse settings is greyed out and inaccessible. I can't figure out what's wrong. This is a brand new keyboard. Touchpad doesn't respond, and when I press trackpoint middle button it acts as a mouse wheel (opens links in a new tab, scrolls only if I press it on the empty space) or sometimes doesn't work at all. I had drivers for ps/2 mouse and keyboard installed , if I try to install drivers from lenovo site, I get an error : Synaptics device not found!

Basically, my problem is in the title. It feels fine when I just idle a finger on it, but if I tilt it diagonally, I start to feel some heat after a few minutes of use. Its like I'm touching a a hot surface of a cheap laptop under load. I thought it might have been because the CPU was under load, but this happened to me while browsing the internet and writting a paper in wordpad. Is this normal?

Is it just me, or do the X230's trackpoint buttons seem really low? They don't seem to have a bump in the front that makes them easy to press. This in addition to how slippery and low the point is compared to the one on my X201 makes pointing and clicking a miserable experience.

Hello, Prior to getting my X230, I had an X201, and the X201's trackpoint was very maneuverable: I was very precise with it and could control it how I wanted to. My X230 does not work this way: The trackpoint doesn't travel how I want it to. It requires more force to move it small distances. In Control Panel: Mouse, I have the pointer speed set to max and the trackpoint settings set to Light Touch. Enhanced Pointer Precision is on (I want it on).  There is definitely something wrong with my machine: I've tried out other X230's, and their trackpoints function the same as my X201's: easy to maneuver. My drivers are all updated.

Answer:X230: Unsatisfactory trackpoint sensitivity/movability

I see no reason not to have Lenovo send u a new keyboard if u are still on warrantee. Keyboards are customer replaceable units and are easy to replace. I would give Lenovo support a call.

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. I´ve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? This issue is really annoying, otherwise I love the X230 tablet!

I prefer to use my trackpoint stick rather than the touchpad because I can leave my hands in typing position.  Trouble is my X230 stick feels much harder to move than my other current and former  Thinkpads.  Even using the stick for just a couple minutes makes my finger sore.  I have adjusted the Wndows control panel -> mouse ultranav -> trackpoint -> settings -> trakcpoint stick -> sensitivity to light touch.  But I use other thinkpads (T430, x120e) stick with sensitivity set in the middle and they are much easier to start movement with.  All Lenovo drivers are current. Seems that the X230 stick is different and requires much more pressure to get going compared to other models. Any suggestions or other adjustments I could try? Thanks.

For clarification purposes, I'd like to ask you a few questions. After you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart your computer, does your machine recognize the SSD? And when it does recognize the SSD, does everything else boot up as it should?

Hey guys I just bought 2x8gb RAM for my x230. So I happeily comes home and puts them in and starts the computer.  Nothing happens. The screen is black and there is only some light around the start button. What can I do to solve this? I tried to pull one of the 8gb RAM blocks out, and my x230 worked fine. Then I tried to put the RAM block in the other socket and the same thing happend as with both in - the laptop dosen't start and only the light in the button is on. It is Corsair RAM btw.

Answer:x230 ram upgrade problem

Hello,

If both RAM modules work separately in either slot, but fail when used together in any combination, I would suspect that they are not a matched pair with the same timing values in their SPD EEPROMs.

My suggestion would be to try replacing them, either with memory modules from Corsair, or another manufacturer you feel comfortable with.  I have had good results with Corsair, Crucial, GEIL and Patriot in the past in my various ThinkPads over the years.

Hi All,   I am new to lenovo so please help me to decide, I have purchased the x230 with thinkpad 1X1 b/g/n which only connects maximum at 72mbps. I tried all the settings in the router and network card, (changing channel to 40Hz ). I am bit disppointed since this card says it can do 150mpbs but never reaches the maximum speed more than 27mbps whereas my wifes MBP reaches 70Mbps. I am really disappointed with the wifi performance and thought of returning the machine now.  Question1: Can i replace the wifi card myself? i am too scared to look inside the laptop if that voids my warranty whether thinkpad 1X1 have two antennas connecting to the wifi card? will that have any impact on my warranty? Question 2:is Intel 6250 a good option to buy? ( I know there is a whitelisting/blacklisting), i am simply asking this since i am not sure the wifi card will fit in with the number antenna wires that will be avilable to fix a dual band (2X2) card.  Will anyone be able to help me with this situation? Thanks in advance , i need a speeder reponse since i have to return the machine by tomorrow.

Q1. Lenovo doesn't consider the palmrest and wireless card a customer replaceable part. While, i have personally done to the upgrade from the 1x1 b/g/n to the intel 6205. It isn't very hard, just do it slowly and have an-anti-static wrist strap on.Q2. 6250 is the 2x2 card with Wimax, do you use wimax? The 1x1 card and 2x2 card both uses 2 antenna, the 3x3 uses 3 antenna (i.e. intel 6300). http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276716468/in/set-72157631966265223/lightbox/The X230 in that picture has the 1x1 card (prior to replacement), and the X220 in that picture has the 2x2 intel 6205. =========If you can return it and reorder then it would be the best.

Lenovo finally reverted back to the 3-button trackpads in their lineup after the disaster no-button clickpada.  I'm very glad about that except that I am stuck with a First Generation Thinkpad Yoga with the dreaded clickpad and want to upgrade it  to the new 3-button trackpad version found on the Second generation Thinkpad Yoga (just released).  Does anyone know the part number of that trackpad?  I can't get a part number from tech support because they keep asking me for a machine serial number and I don't have a Thnkpad yoga 2nd gen machine!  Does anyone know if these parts can be swapped?  (I'm hoping the dimensions and connections are identical).  Any info in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  If you think Lenovo should send folks a replacement 3-button trackpad to replace the clickpads, please voice your opinion! Thanks

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Question: x230 RAM upgrade

Hi everyone, I have a question about the RAM in the x230. I bought the base 4gb of RAM with the intention of upgrading it myself later. The stock RAM inside is a Samsung model with this serial: m471b5273dh0-cko However, I cannot find this model RAM to put in another identical stick into the open slot. The closest model available is: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage/MV-3T4G3/US Do you think these two sticks would be compatible? Did anyone else try a different type/model/amount of RAM? My gut feeling is that 8Gb of RAM would be great, and that 16Gb would be overkill. The other option is just to shell out a few more bucks and buy two pieces of matching RAM. I am considering Cruicals and Cosair Vengence RAM. Let me know what you guys think, Thanks, Jah

hi. if you were to order from Lenovo: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...you'd probably get Samsung, Hynix or Nanya, from my experience. most recently, i got Hynix. price may be higher than other places, though. from what i've read, Crucial is good quality, but Corsair may be hit or miss. cheers.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

I have a ThinkPad X230 with a 500Gb hard drive (2306-CTO). When I purchased it, I also purchased a Lenovo Slim USB Portable DVD Burner (DY-8A8NH13C). The DVD device works well to install some software from a CD or DVD. I want to consider upgrading this computer to a 1Tb hard drive (0A65633) 1. Will the 0A65633 1 Tb hard drive fit in the X230. That is, replace the existing drive with the new 1 Tb drive?2. The 1 Tb drive is 5400-rpm whereas the existing 500 Gb drive is 7200-rpm. It has been nearly 10 years that I have used anything slower that 7200-rpm. Will the 1 Tb drive be slow?3. Since if is a new drive (no recovery partitions), can I order Recovery DVD's from Lenovo for the X230?  I think I can.4. Can I boot the first Recovery DVD from the USB Slim DVD device?  Will that work? or do I need to purchase a Docking station? 5. I have not changed UEFI security at all in the BIOS. Can I just boot the Recovery DVD?  and will it even install? I imagine I might do this in November after Windows 8.1 is released and combine the two upgrades (hard drive and Windows 8.1) into one exercise. I also might wait until a faster 1 Tb drive is released. Do you imagine fast 1 Tb hard drives in the near future? Thank you, .... JDH

Answer:Upgrade a ThinkPad X230

1. The 0A65633 is a 9.5 mm drive, so it won't fit the X230. It requires 7 mm drives. 2. The speed of the drive is not only dependent on the RPM of the drive, there are other factors too i.e. amount of drive memory cache, etc. Since the density of the data of the 1TB drive more than 500 GB drive, then for each rotation theoretically the reader/writer head should also pick up/write more data thus making it faster. 3. Yes you can. Or make your own. 4. Yes you can. Or use a USB thumb drive to recover from. Fast platter hdd? The technology of platter will only allow so much data to be read, we are pretty much at the technological dead end with the current platter hdd in terms of transfer rate. Don't expect revolutionary breakthrough with the current platter hdd, i am expecting only tiny speed increase increments. I mean if you need speed, use a mSATA drive (maybe 64 gigs one) to act as a cache drive with Lenovo ExpressCache software, or get a SSHD (which is basically a platter hdd with SSD cache installed) pretty much same as the mSATA + normal spinning platter in terms of how it works.

Hey Hi,  I am planning to upgrade my Thinkpad X230s memory to 8GB. I have few questions, it would be a great help if someone can help me.1) Is it better to use 2x4GB configuration or 1x8GB? What are the advantages? (Does Thinkpad X230 support dual channel configuration?)2) CPU-Z shows that my current RAM is running at 1.5 V. Can I put two 4GB RAM running at 1.35V? I received my X230 last week and benchmarked its performance as I installed more RAM and an SSD.  I reinstalled WIndows (and, later, all my apps) on the SSD and use the HDD for data.  Below are the results, FYI.  Major takeaways: RAM speed increased 61%, presumably a function of the chips Crucial uses on the upgrade, rather than the capacity.Graphics fps increased 60%, presumably due to the improved RAM speed.Disk write speed (to the SSD) only improved 21%, but it's reads you care about in this configuration.  Unfortunately, NovaBench doesn't provide that info. Out of the box (2.9 GHz, i7-3520M CPU, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional) NovaBench Score: 6813792 MB System RAM (Score: 130)? Hello, I'm about to order an X230. In my experience, it's usually best to install the maximum RAM, so I'd like to upgrade to 16GB. Lenovo charges $340 for 16 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM).  Can anyone advise on whether it's cheaper / feasible to order the RAM elsewhere? From the posts here on upgrading RAM on the x230, I do see that some people have found it confusing to identify compatible RAM for their machines.  I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Answer:Buying an X230: Order the RAM upgrade or buy later?

it is usually cheaper to buy aftermarket. I am using Crucial brand on my X230 and X220 machines.

Hey hi After finally recovering my system to factory settings. I have a question and please bear with me. If i upgrade(not clean install) to windows 8 pro, how will it affect my Lenovo_Recovery partition? Will I be able to if in case required,  revert back to my windows 7 factory setting using F11 keys during boot up? Or this functionality will get erased and my recovery partition will be of no use. Also if i do clean install, I have read it that your windows will not activate as its an upgrade. In that case you need to call Microsoft and explain them your predicament and if its your lucky day you might get it activated. There are some other methods probably not legal to overcome this. Please share your view on that. Also how would re-clean install will affect the activation/system? Please reply. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Windows 8 pro upgrade

Hi, neeraj_schrody

I've never personally done this upgrade, but I think it should technically work like you think it would. If an upgrade to Windows 8 is performed, then this should be installed over the partition that Windows 7 is using, which is not the recovery partition. If you made sure that the recovery partition was not formatted during the upgrade, then I believe it would remain there and the system would be recoverable through this. However, please keep in mind that this is what should be technically possible and is my thoughts, not a fact.

As far as the activation goes, I do not think you will run into any issues. These errors in your post normally only occur when certain criteria for updating are not met. Provided you are running a legitimate copy of Windows 7, which you are, there should be no issues when upgrading.

Hope it helps,Adam

Answer:More x230 upgrade questions - Which processor?

The CPU on the X230 is not replaceable as it is physically soldered to the motherboard, as such you should have an idea what your future use is. Are you going to do lot of CPU based simulations? i.e. Matlab? Are you going to use Virtualisation (i.e. Vt-d, etc)?If answer to no to above questions, then i suggest the i5-3230m. This represents the most value for the performance.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Answer:x230 wireless 6205 to 6300 upgrade

the 6300 card needs 3x3 antenna setup, it will work with 2x2 antenna, but it will just perform in the same ball park as the 6205, as such the upgrade you are planning would be a waste money (so to speak).

Hello,I am the owner of a Lenovo X230 laptop, and am experiencing some wifi issues. The wifi works great if I am located next to the wireless modem, however if I am other places (ie, upstairs in my house) it does not work well at all.  I have read and it seems like a "wireless antenna" problem is common.I would like to replace and upgrade these parts if possible. Presently, my device has a Intel Centrino Advanced N6205 wireless adapter.  Would it be possible to replace this with a "Lenovo IBM Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 7265NGW 802.11ac 867M 2X2 NGFF Card " If so, should this solve my wifi issues? I am positive it is not a driver issue as I mentioned, it works excellent when by the modem. Thank you kindly

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I have everything working so far except for the webcam. I've installed the drivers so that when I go into device manager under Imaging devices it lists Integrated Camera and Camera Plus and device manager says both of these are updated and working the fine. However, when I use the Camera app which I get to from Windows 8 metro all I see is a cartoon of a camera crossed out. The yellow webcam light does turn on, but it's not working. The same thing happens when I try to do a video recording in Microsoft OneNote 2007, which I used to be able to do.  I've tried to uninstall the webcam drivers and reinstall it, but it still isn't working. I've tried doing hardware scans and update scans in the Lenovo Solutions Center but it says everything is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful. If I can't get everything to work in Windows 8 I'm switching back to Windows 7, which I made a backup disc of. Thanks,-Noora

Answer:X230 tablet Windows 8 upgrade, webcam not working

I think I finally fixed it actually, sorry about that. I just kept installing drivers from the Lenovo website and it's working now. The camera program that you access through Metro says the camera is only 0.9 pixels though, and I thought the camera was more than that.  Is there a way to tell if I've installed all the necessary drivers? I have done multiple software scans with Lenovo Solution Center but even when the camera wasn't working it said I had no updates, so that's why I kept installing drivers from the website.  Also, does anyone know the driver to make the wacom pen right click button work? I really miss that One thing I think is better with Windows 8 actually is the screen orientation change button. It's way faster than in Windows 7! I also like that it doesn't do it automatically, because I don't always want it automatic.

Hi everyone:I am considering to upgrade my wireless adapter for my laptop. Currently I am using Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200. My laptop has bluetooth. I have questions:1. Does the bluetooth come with my wireless adapter? I mean that If I upgrade my wireless card, do I have to buy a card with wifi and bluetooth? 2. I am considering to upgrade to Intel 62205 AN. This is the linkhttp://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-62205&show=p Is that worth to upgrade? (functionality, price, ...)  Is the product compatible with my current Thinkpad X230T?  3. Can I install 2 cards and run silmultanerously . It sounds greedy but I know a software, named "connectify"; it allows laptop to connect many networks silmutanerously, for example: 4G, Lan, wifi.  4. I see some people mention about Intel Ultimate 6300. What additional functionalities do I get compared to 62205  or Intel 2200? Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade Wireless Adapter for Thinkpad X230 Tablet

1. Bluetooth and wireless cards are separate on the ThinkPad X220, X220t, X230, and X230s. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276508687/in/set-721576320273504682. You would need an Intel 6205 card with Lenovo FRU number on it, generic one won't work. 2200 only operates in the 2.4 ghz bandwidth, while the 6205 can operate in both 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth. So the question is does your router have 5 ghz bandwidth and support MIMO?3. No you can't. The WWAN/mSATA slot would give an error message saying an unauthorized card is installed (1801 error). 4. 6300 card has 3 x 3 setup and operates in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz range. Max speed of 450 mpbs6205 has 2 x 2 setup, 2.4/5 ghz range, and max speed of 300 mbps.2200 has 2 x 2 setup, but operates in the 2.4 ghz range and max speed of 300 mbps.

After upgrading my X230 from Win7 to Win10, keyboard inputs crash some programs. For example, with any browser (MS Edge, Chrome and Firefox), type anything in the URL field would crash the browser. The browser would become non-responding. Need to kill it with Task Manager. Similar with MS Office. Keyboard only works with selected program. So far, works with Notepad and Windows Explorer (can change file name). Tried using an external USB keyboard, still have the problem. I have installed the latest drivers, still no luck.

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

Hello lenovo community, I bought an x220t and it shipped yesterday. Everything is fine, except  the Trackpoint. It seems like the "B"-button is blocking it, because it moves slowly downwards. If I press the B-button and use the Trackpoint it works well, like on my X121e. The cursor also accelerates if I move the mouse down with the Trackpoint and then press the button. What can I do?

Answer:x220t Trackpoint problem

Have you tried running Lenovo System Update to see if new drivers are available? TrackPoint has self-calibration which ignores any consistent small trackpoint displacement. So even if the B button interferes, I would think at some point the interference would be calibrated out.

The trackpoint on my x120e just stopped working, along with the accompanying buttons just below the keyboard.  However, the touchpad and its two buttons still work.  (This happened while I was using the computer -- no apparent change to system files prompted it.) I tried Fn+F8 to turn the trackpoint back on -- I can select the option but it doesn't take effect.  In advanced options, the option to turn the trackpoint on is grayed out. I downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver; no improvement.  I also looked in BIOS options and didn't see anything related to enabling the trackpoint. Has anyone else had an issue with this, or is it likely an old-fashioned hardware problem? Thanks for your help.

try uninstall the ultranav driver and software as well as the current mouse drivers that is installed. let windows install its generic drivers.

test your trackpoint and mouse and see if it works, then visit our support page and reinstall the drivers+software

Hello, I usually have my laptop connected though the ethernet, so I have the wireless radios turned off. I have my TrackPoint mouse set to the highest sensivity level in both the mouse settings in the control panel and in the ultranav software. When I want to use the wireless network, I flip the switch and the wireless radios come on. Incedentally, when I do that, the mouse becomes less sensitive. So every time I turn on the wireless radio, I have to go to the control panel and change the sensitivity back to high. The ultranav software is not affected. The settings also get reverted to default when I turn on the laptop while the wireless radios are on. Does anyone know how to make the mouse stay at the highest sensivity level regardless of whether the radios are on or off?

Answer:Problem With My TrackPoint W510

hi rgoode, with regards to this, could you uninstall the ultranav software and drivers from your system, then let windows install its generic drivers. once generic drivers has been installed, change the sensitivity settings for the mouse and see if there is a difference when wifi mode is on and off.once done, go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74582.html download the latest ultranav software and driver.do a test again.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

I have a x200 with Win XP Pro. I had an uptodate trackpoint driver (4.72), and everything worked okay - I was able to change its setting in Mouse properties (TrackPoint tab). After the windows update, trackpoint just got mad. There is still a driver 4.72 installed - it can be seen in Mouse properties, but the TrackPoint tab is lost so the trackpoint operates at standard slow speed that windows gives it and there are not advanced settings that TrackPoint tab gives!! I noticed that tp4serv.exe, which as I believe is supposed to start the TrackPoint tab is started when windows boot, but the TrackPoint tab is not. I discovered that in order to start TrackPoint tab I have to manually click on tp4serv.exe. It is so frustrating 'couse I simply have no idea what to do - I tried reinstalling driver (it hangs), tried returning to older version of driver, I installed all updates from system update, installed updates from windows - still the same! I also tried to put tp4serv.exe in startup - no results.... I noticed some posts on the internet from people with the same problem but with no results... Do you have any suggestions what to do? EDIT: For future reference - I managed to fix it: I first  fully updated windows and NET framework 4.0. Than I got rid off the trackpoint driver (had to delete it from startup menu first in order to uninstall it without freezing system) - in result the 4.72 driver was replaced by slow, ordinary windows driver without the TrackPoint tab properti... Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

I recently bought 3rd generation x1 carbon, but the Ultranav tab in the mouse setting has been changed to trackpad tab and it does not have press-to-click feature at all!! It's same windows 8.1.. I am not sure what the problem is. Could anyone help??

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

I use X1 Carbon 3rd gen. Windows 7.
Scroll browser, every half of screen scroll, some lines are skipped maybe 10 or 15 lines. Screen scrolled with hopped.
It's very inconvenient.

Scrolling Method  option is "traditional" . "standard doesn't work.
Anyone know how fix it?  Is there any problem in "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav" ?

Answer:X1 Carbon (3rd Gen, 2015) Trackpoint scroll problem in Chrome browser

I don't have this exact issue but my scrolling is very choppy, especially using the Touchscreen (but the Trackpoint and Trackpad too).  Does the same issue occur for you with the other scrolling methods? For me, it's like the X1 is having a hard time keeping up with the web pages but the lines/elements do load eventually.

Hi,I have a problem with my X200 tablet under vista: After a hangup the fingerprint, keyboard and trackpoint does not work. After login with external mouse and keyboard I did not find any mistake. Can anybody help? And another question:I want to change to Win7 because Vista ist bulls.... on this system. Is it possible to get an preload harddisk with Win7 and all Lenovo tools?Or a DVD for installation? Thanx

Answer:X200 tablet vista problem Keyboard, Trackpoint, Fingertip

It's not that great under Windows 7 either.... I've tried 7, vista and XP. So far windows xp is the least of the 3 evils. For windows 7 if you really want it (& if you don't mind that some of the hotkeys don't work under Windows 7 - installing extra drivers won't help this) you need the specifics from lenovo as to which installation cd you need to order from microsoft for normal X200 tablet function (I believe they charged about $40 dollars  Canadian for it)  in addition to a windows 7 OS code/key (around $90 dollars - not sure what that converts to in Switzerland, if you're a student).Hope that helps  Btw, what do you mean by hangup?

Hi,check the warranty status of your laptop on the page below:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/warranty-status/default.pageThen follow the links at the right column on that page and read details about your warranty type. Why didn't SC purchase the fan only? I just bought a new X230 and when attempting to use headphones on the combojack I am only getting audio in the left ear.  If I pull the jack out a little, I can get audio in both ears but it is not stereo.  Furthermore, it appears as though the combojack is tilted in relationship to the body of the laptop.   Am I missting something in terms of software in order to enable stereo on the combojack?  Or, does this seem more like a hardware problem?

Answer:X230 Headphone Problem

Solved the problem...   So seeing the jack was tilted in the body I assumed the combojack was not soldered to the board properly.  I hate sending things in for warranty so I took the motherboard out and sure enough, the last two pins were not soldered to the board.  I applied heat with a small tip soldering iron to all the pins quickly so that the jack slowly leveled out on the board.  Put it back together and it works.

Hello everyone, I got a X230 with 4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-12-B4 memory installed. I tried to upgrade it with two Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G 1.5V memory sticks. Unfortunatelly after installing new memory sticks (combinations don't matter) my laptop doesn't power on. After pressing the button there's just a flash and BIOS doesn't boot. Everything is back to normal after restoring the previous RAM configuration. Is there something wrong with my memory sticks or is it some kind of bior issue or maybe something else?

If you mean that screen comes back after you press enter on your hard disk? If so it could be. Your hard disk no longer bootable due to Windows is damaged or something else caused the drive to lose its boot so then you would need a reinstall but it could be another issue causing it so I will let some one else give you more ways to fix this.

I have a Lenovo X230, running on Win 10 x64 operating system, and I have two original 9 cell batteries (44++). Both batteries have been working fine a few days ago. Right now, when I connect the laptop to the power adaptor, the battery light would blink (as it normally indicates charging) and it shows the "plugged in, charging" in Windows. However, the battery percentage doesn't change at all. The same thing happens with both battery. I've tried rebooting, etc with no result. Anyone has any clue on what's happening? Thank you! PS: Computer still turns on when adapter is unplugged, but I'm afraid I won't be able to charge my batteries anymore.

Hi All, I've had an issue come up with my screen over the past week (see here: http://i.imgur.com/IE6r930.jpg). This happened all of a sudden. There haven't been any issues in the 13 months I've had it (it's now of course out of warranty by a little over a month). I never dropped it or spilled anything on it either...so I'm assuming its just wear and tear, which shouldn't happen like this. Just to give slightly more background, whenever I put pressure on the bottom of the affected area (not the screen but the bezel), the problem seems to go away. Sometimes it is completely clear or some times its just not as bad. If I don't touch it, after 10 or 15 mintues the problem seems to clear itself up as well.  Today, after about 10 minutes it had cleared up, but then 20 minutes later it happened again. This time, it was harder to get it back into a working state.  At this point, I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas on what might be its affliction or how I can go about fixing it? Thanks all!

Answer:x230 Monitor Problem

if putting pressure on the system fixes the issue, then it means either it is cable, connection or the LCD problem. Cable and connections are free to fix yourself, and relatively simple.

I received my X230 on 15/11/12, and only one month later my 'g' key fell off.But when we called support here in Israel , i couldn't believe in what i heard. "Keyboard keys are not under warranty".Before this case I had a very good opinion about Lenovo but not more.In support center prefer to blame me than to admit that there is a problem in the laptop. An hour ago, I was on the phone with one of the managers in Lenovo israel. He swore to me that this is the first time he hear about key fell problem in lenovo x230, and of couse it's because of me.Immediately after our conversation i searched about this in the google and discovered that I am not alone.I did not expect this from Lenovo, not for this i paid 1.5K.I paid for goodwill, as i understand now I was wrong.

Answer:X230 keyboard problem.

Hi, avnilm

A key falling off of the keyboard should be covered under warranty, so you are correct in that thinking. Can you send me a private message with your serial number, machine type model, name, and contact information? I'd like to do some research on this problem and see what can be done.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Dear lenovo support, I just brought x230 around Nov 2012 and it have a bright spot show on the bottm-center of the screen. I put my x230 to the service center in Thailand. They need 3 days for confirmation with the head quater. After 4 days waiting, I call back to service center. They deny to solve my problem. I request for the reason because my x230 have no any sign of hit. Thai's Lenovo service team who can see my x230 also confirm that my computer have no any sign of hit. So, just the simple question and I want to know it. Why?. I will agree to leave the white spot on my screen after common use. If the reason is acceptable. Hopefully, I will get the reasonable response.

Hi everyone, I received my new X230 last week which came with windows 8 and BIOS v2.02 (latest version which came out in sept). I have been trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Ubuntu on a secondary partition that I created on my disk but I have been unable to boot from my USB flash drive... Before anyone asks, this same drive was testde on another laptop which booted without any problem right away. The partition on my usb is active and I have been using different tools to format for boot with the same results always. I checked in the BIOS and the only feature that mentionned booting from USB (UEFI I believe it was called) was enabled. When I press F12 upon boot, I do get the boot menu with the USB that does show up in the list but when I click on it to get my laptop to boot from it nothing happens. The page "refresh" and I have to make another selection. Can anyone help me out ? Thanks.

Hi everybody,First of all that is what i ordered: x230 Type: 23257R6X230 - 1x4GB - 500GB HDD - i53320 and some other features. The x230 came for me with no OS because I already had an Win7 Pro 64bit license. What I did is, install a 128GB SSD in the mSata Slot and put another original Lenovo 4GB Ram module in the second Ram Slot. First startup, BIOS recognized the 8GB Ram and the SSD, so i was going on installing Win7 on the SSD. Installed without any Problems, so i took the Network Driver from lenovo and installed System Update. So right now i have all drivers installed and the nearly the whole System fully functional but looking into Win7 System Configuration it says: 8,00GB installed memory (7,70 usable) I've done BIOS update but the Problem is still the same. I knew from my other PC there was a "memory remapping" function in the BIOS settings and then the whole 8GB Ram could be used, but in my x230 BIOS there are no memory options. Can anyone give me a hint? Maybe someone can help me with that "black button"? It does nothing when i tip it but i would like to customize the button...And i do not have any experience with the Trusted Platform Module or Intel Anti Theft. It would be very usefull if anyone can give me some further information how to use it in the x230.I might have some sensitive Data on my laptop, so hard drive encryption would be nice, but i dont know if the TPM or Intel AntiTheft can be useful for that. Thanks a lot, best regardsChristi... Trying to install f-secure on a new X230 running Win 7-64. The TP comes pre-loaded with Norton anti-virus. Removed this with the Windows 7 Uninstall and then the last remnants with the Norton Removal Tool. F-secure installs successfully and runs OK after the installation but on a startup or reboot the f-secure Computer Security application fails to start. No matter how many restarts still get the same result. Unistalling/reinstalling f-secure does not help. Also, Windows reports that the Firewall and Anti-Virus protection is turned off. Hello,I just got my first Thinkpad so I don't have a lot of experience of Lenovo softwares. With Windows 7 all the hotkeys + power manager worked fine. But when I upgraded to Windows 8, problems started. During the upgrade there was an error when installing Lenovo softwares ( I dunno what it was installing at the moment) but it finished anyway. When I eventually got to Windows 8 I found that I dont have Power Management + hotkeys doesn't work + during the boot Windows gives RunDLL error. Error dissapeared after I reinstalled Lenovo dependency package. I tried to reinstall Lenovo hotkey drivers, but now fn+f5/f6 only opens Lenovo Settings + I lost my Microphone mute which worked earlier. I haven't yet done anything to fix Powermanager.Lenovo Solution Center works and I have installed all the updates. So what should I do? I would be happy if my fn+f5 would work because it's hard to controll wifi and bluethooth without it. I dont use camera a lot but it would be good that is works. I have these Lenovo softwares installed at the moment:  And I know there are topics about same problem, but I couldn't find the solution. And sorry for my English.

Hi, I just recieved my second x230 laptop and having problems with the screen. The screen is constantly shimmering and it 's much more obvious when the background is set to dark grey. This is the replacement that I just recieved and It still has the same problem. On the first one the trackpad was loose and had the screen flickering problem so I asked for a replacement and this one the same screen problem and also the battery does not fit in properly even when I lock both sides there is still a big gap on one side and it's quite loose. I m totally disappointed with the Lenovo quality control. but also tired of sending them back and forth as I believe the next one will probably have some other problems. What I already tried: 1- BIOS updated2- All the video drivers updated3-Increased the ram to 16GB  None of them solved tthe issue. By the way this is an IPS display. I would appreciate any response  if someone had the same problem and managed to solve it somehow. Thanks,Ale

Answer:X230 Screen problem

Make sure you have set 60 Hz refresh rate in display options. With the default factory settings, it will go back to flickering 50 Hz when running on battery. You have to set maximum performance in Intel video display options for battery profile as well to prevent it. As for the wobbling battery, almost all ThinkPads have this issue for a long time.

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I just got my x230 yesterday and I'm having some weird issues. (1) whenever my laptop goes to sleep mode. I can't seem to make it wake up. The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen. Both seems to all relates to sleep mode. Does any body have the same issue?  I really need help. Thanks

I've bought the Lenovo X230 with the broken battery (the PM showes 68% charging and no more, asks for the battery replacement). I've tried 3 different good-working batteries from X220 which were supposed to work on X230, but they don't. When starting the laptop with that battery, it stops with the information:" The battery installesd is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system. Press the ESC to continue".  And after pressing the ESC key, it starts to work, but the PM still writes that the battery is not correct and it doesn't charge. What could it be?
