I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just received my yoga and downgraded to windows 7, even with the vertical scroll set to one line, the trackpoint is very sensitive. Also there is a initial lag with the trackpoint scroll, if I'm using the trackpoint for the first after a webpage turn, the first light touch is not registered, you have move the trackpoint very hard, which caused the page to move very fast down the page. Overall using the trackpoint on the yoga 460 (maybe with W10, it is different), has been an aweful experience so far, is there a patch or update that I didn't know about? Btw, I have Elan pointing device installed, I can not find Ultranav anymore, why is that? Elan pointing device seem to have less function than Ultranav.

I've been using Lenovo laptops for the last 10 years because of my preference for the trackpoint.  However, I recently purchased a P40 yoga and the trackpoint middle button scrolling is horrendous.  It takes 5 or 6 seconds before it starts scrolling.  Also, when you press the middle button, the cursor does not change to the scroll cursor.  Please help me fix this as I am very unhappy that my brand new computer does not work as well as my other (3 really old) Lenovo laptops.

Last week or the week before my trackpoint on my T510 stopped scrolling.  The system is MT/M 4314-7QU running 64-bit Windows 7.  I've installed 15.2 19.0 but still no scrolling.  I'm not sure what happened or where to look.  I've also uninstalled the trackpoint in device manager, removed the driver and it's made no difference.  The touchpad works but I prefer the trackpoint.  This machine is less than 6 months old so it's still under warranty.  Any suggestions?

Hit Fn+F8, Manage Settings, UltraNav tab, TrackPoint Settings. Try the Standard Scrolling setting.

I have a T510 that I got a  couple of months ago, and I have been using the Trackpoint middle button for scrolling in Firefox, until a couple of days ago when this feature  inexplicably stopped working. I've tried restarting my computer, making sure the Trackpoint settings are set to enable scrolling, updating my drivers, but nothing seems to be able to bring it back. Has anyone else had problem like this (where the Trackpoint scrolling unexpectedly stops working) or know of any other reasons for why it would stop working?

Answer:Trackpoint Middle Scroll Not Working

Are the processes SynTPEnh.exe, SynTPHelper.exe, and SynTPLpr.exe running? Advanced UltraNav features fail to work if these aren't running. You may have disabled them in MSConfig or another startup program cleaner. Does hitting the middle button trigger the conventional middle mouse button?

Hello All, I'm having an issue with my new x120e where after a couple suspend/resume cycles both the Trackpoint scroll function and the ability to adjust screen brightness no longer work. Using the Trackpoint only yields results as a pointing device, and trying to use the brightness controls does nothing--no on-screen brightness level display. I've searched the forums but couldn't find these exact issues, and I'm using the latest versions of the UltraNav driver and Utility. Thanks!

Answer:No TrackPoint Scroll and Brightness Control After Resume

hey cbolos, check via http://support.lenovo.com and see that your Power Management software is at its latest version. This T61 was driving everyone crazy with extremely long  boot times, but has been restored to it's original Vista installation, after which it worked extremely well for a short time. Then the Fn key utilities began to die, usually after a System Update session. I've read numerous posts about restoring these utilities which indicate that there is a critical load order of the drivers.  It seems that you can download and install all of the proper drivers but if you don't do them in the right order they still won't work.  Peachy. Now my Trackpoint scroll button has fallen victim to the latest System Update session (more fool I).  This has finally pushed me over the edge as it was one of the features I liked most about the machine. I'm fed up with spending hours on trial and error downloads and installs and need to get some work done.  I'm looking for a "Start Over" procedure that would just clear the whole darn  bunch of  Lenovo drivers and utilities out and reload the whole thing in whatever order is necessary.  Failing that, the plan is to do a custom install of  W7-64 (required anyway for future versions of Adobe Production Premium video suite). Any ideas?

I guess I need to stop installing drivers...  I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion).  Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore!  It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings.  I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll  I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

I've been experiencing the issue where if a single user is logged into XP, the trackpoint scroll feature works flawlessly, BUT, if you use the XP switch user function and have 2 people logged in at the same time, the trackpoint scroll feature breaks down and doesn't work right. This is what I've found (short of re-booting the system): User1 logged on --> Switch User to User2, the scroll feature will work, BUT if you Switch User back to User1 the trackpoint scroll doesn't work anymore   So, to get it to work right for User1 again, Switch User back to User2 and Logoff --> Log back in with User1 and should work again. I've done all the driver uninstall/re-install excercises and have tried the native synaptic drivers too....  This just seems to be the way this works (unfortunately). Ironically, my old T30 had seemingly the same hardware, but I never had this problem with it... it was seemless when Switching Users.  Funny, I bought a ThinkPad T because I love the trackpoint... I wish they would get it to work right  So, anyone else experience this?  Any fixes?

Hi, I just got my Twist and while using it I've noticed that when using the TrackPoint's scroll feature in the Modern UI or any Modern UI apps that it acts like I'm using the arrow keys, this is most evident in the Startscreen. It works as expected on the desktop and trackpad scrolling works as expected everywhere. The first thing I did when it got home was to run all the updates that everything wanted, so I am on the latest driver. Anyone else experiencing this and does anyone know how to fix it? EDIT alternatively since this is my first Thinkpad, is this behavior normal?

Open 'Control Panel > Mouse'.
Open the 'ThinkPad' or 'ThinkPad UltraNav' tab.
At the top next to 'Pointing Options', click 'Advanced'
In the 'General' tab, you will see 'TrackPoint pointing speed', adjust the slider,

Depending on which Ultranav version you have installed the steps may be slightly different, but they should be roughly the same.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

Hi, not sure where to do this (or if maybe the issues are actually caused by some hardware issue), but I'd like to request an update to the trackpoint speed in the next Ultranav driver release.   I currently have my trackpoint speed cranked all the way up, along with my overall mouse speed, and have turned off pointer precision enhancement (which also slows mouse speed); but still have to work to move the cursor around the screen using the trackpoint.  This also makes it extemely difficult to control the cursor when I connect an external mouse (e.g., when I'm using the laptop at my office workstation). I'd say the speed is only getting up to about 3/4ths of the speed of my X201's trackpoint (if that).  This is not only inconvenient, but also frequently causes the tackpoint to lose its inertia settings so that it starts to drift uncontrollably up (or down) the screen (usually caused by slowly scrolling through a document).  This happens daily.   With this issue and the loss of the press-to-select feature, the trackpoint on the new 240 has been very, very disappointing.  It's a shame that such a useful feature has been so handicapped by the changes in the new machine.  Please bring back the old trackpoint (or fix these issues with software). - Chris

I've been experiencing a steady slowdown over the past several months with the pointer speed and increased effort for the Trackpoint on my T460s. I came across an older post that pointed me to the solution which was to replace the Trackpoint nib (red button) with a new one. Apparently, the material becomes stiffer over time which increases the amount of pressure required to move the pointer. My settings(pointer speed, trackpoint speed), which were maxed out before, are now dialed back several notches. The replacement nibs (low profile) are available as an accessory on the Lenovo store. Hope this helps.

Answer:Trackpoint Scroll stops working after it has been working after bootup, intermitant

I know this is old post but...This sounds like a driver issue or a hardware issue. First verify your type of trackpad than download and reinstall the trackpoint software from Lenovo from here Drivers see if that helps. If this does not help this might be a hardware wear issue this laptops are 6 years old. I have one myself but I use Linux on mine.

The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations. The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).c:\Program Files\Lenovo\Trackpoint\tp4table.dat; Google Picasa*,*,picasa3.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9; Windows Live Mail*,*,wlmail.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9; Windows Live Writer*,*,WindowsLiveWriter.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9; Apple ITunes*,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9; Apple Safari*,*,safari.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9Especially for "X" series owners that do not have the touchpad this is helpful. Thanks for the tip by Matthew Kohut of Lenovo for mentioning that this technique had previously been done for other programs such as OpenOffice.Message Edited by dfumento on 05-13-2009 12:12 PMMessage Edited by dfumento on 05-13-2009 12:13 PMMessage Edited by dfumento on 05-13-2009 12:14 PM

W8.1. Vertical scroll with an MS 5000 wireless mouse is fine for weeks, then suddenly it's on steroids.
Changing it in Mouse PROPERTIES (or the registry) returns speed to normal, but only until the next boot, when it reverts to fast.
Reinstalling MS Mouse and Keyboard Center software is a fix - for a time. Then the scenario is repeated.

Clues as to why the setting doesn't "stick?"

Hey everyone,

I have a P50 on Win10 64bit (1607) and have the latest UltraNav drivers installed. What happens is that the mouse (vertical) scroll speed is reset to "1" in the Windows mouse options every time I use the middle button above the touchpad (below the space bar) to scroll. I could find some older threads (mainly about Win7) which recommended installing the latest drivers but I have done that already and couldn't solve it that way.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:P50 - Scroll Speed set back to one line

Anyone able to help here? The issue doesnt necessarily seems linked to using the middle mouse button and occurs more randomly I guess.

Hi,  I have a E560 with Win7Pro, my problem is that I would like to change the speed of scroll with two fingers when I'm scrolling web sites. To do it I open the touchpad settings and set the speed to a lower one and "confirm", the scrolling was slower but only as long the window with touchpad settings was not closed. After I close this, the scrolling speed is back as before (fast), when i open again the settings everythings looks like I've set. All other options i changed for the touchpad are set and working after I close the settings only the scrolling speed will not change. I tried to do it with old drivers and new drivers and in Admin mode, nothing helps. Maybe you have an idea ? Brgds,

Answer:E560 Touchpad - Speed Scroll

I found the solution but it's not the way how it should be done. In the mouse option ( I have no mouse ) in section "wheel" i had to change from scroll 2 lines to scroll 1 line. Now the speed is reduced but the scrolling is not smoth how it should be.  Problem is reported to Lenovo support and I hope they will release in future new drivers for the touchpad and solve this problem.

i have a "microsoft wireless mouse 2000" and my pc is running win 8 pro. most of the times after i resume from hibernation the scroll speed is insane! moving the scroll wheel 1mm causes for example the browser to scroll over one page! in scroll settings it shows "roll wheel one click to scroll 3 lines", no matter what i set this to it still scrolls excesivly.. i need a full system reboot to regain control over scroll speed.
this was never an issue with win7.

if anyone got a solution for this, i would be very greatfull!

HI,
I want to increase the scroll speed of Firefox. I have typed aboutconfig and reset the mousewheel withnokeynumlines to as many as 100 whilst resetting mousewheel withnokey.sysnumlines to false. It made no difference at all no matter what the value was set to.
I also tried to use smooth scrolling again with no increase in speed.
I went to mouse in control panel but there was nothing relating to scroll speed.
I use a laptop with a touch pad mouse and wonder if that could be the problem.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards Alex

Answer:Want to increase scroll speed of Firefox

Hey alex, im not aware of a way to do this solely for firefox, however ther is a program called regseeker --> http://majorgeeks.com/RegSeeker_d2579.html ... It has an section called "tweaks", and their is an option to change the speed for scrolling speed that will apply to all applications including windows itself.

Hello,

I've just installed a new hard drive in my wifes laptop. I did a fresh windows install last night. This morning, I installed firefox, but she says the scrolling(she scrolls with arrow keys) is too choppy and not smooth enough for her to read while scrolling. It has the appearance of the screen quickly refreshing either up or down depending on the scroll direction. It wasn't like that before, and its not like it on my firefox. Is there anything i can do? Is this a firefox issue or a graphics issue?

thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:Scroll Speed And Smoothness In Firefox

In Firefox 2.0.0.6, at "Tools, Options..., Advanced, General (tab)" there is a section called "Browsing". In that section are two checkboxes for scrolling: "Use autoscrolling" and "Use smooth scrolling". Check the settings there and see if adjusting them makes a difference.

I just noticed this today and it's bothering me a lot.

Dell Inspiron Laptop, 13 inch. i7, 256 SSD, 8 GB of RAM,

Whenever I scroll with my touch screen it scrolls extremely slow. It is slow whether I'm in tablet mode or not.

I'm used to being on an android phone and being able to zoom through facebook, or any website. I put my finger on the screen and flick upward pretty quickly and can zoom through pages. If I'm not mistaken, I have done this in the past on my laptop with no issues.

On the right hand side, if I use my mouse and click on the scroll bar, it will scroll extremely fast.

But no forum, facebook, on edge or chrome will scroll fast at all. The speed is slow.

I went to mouse and touchpad settings and turned it up to scroll many pages at a time, changed the cursor speed, I turned off the touchscreen and back on, restarted the computer, used dell update/windows update to check for updates, and I even enabled, and disabled smooth scrolling for chrome. no dice.

Any ideas on how to make web browsers faster with the touch screen scrolling?

Answer:Slow Scroll Speed in Web Browser

Have you tried some scroll extensions, like

I have a weird problem with my Windows 7 box. Inside any text editor (be it Notepad or Visual Studio or whatever), I find that my arrow key's scroll speed is not as rapid as in my other colleagues PCs. If I hold down the down/up key, the cursor moves down
or up at a pace that is a *lot* slower than what I see on other similar Windows PCs.

What settings control this?

Answer:Arrow keys scroll speed

All
Problem was the KVM switch through which my kbd was connected to my PC. Removing that and directly connecting to my PC solved the issue.

I have just reinstalled my system (XP Pro SP2). Authenticated updated and all. I haven't changed any hardware and in fact I reinstalled less software than before.
Since reinstallation, I've noticed considerable deterioration on scroll speed (eg in Firefox and in Word & Excel. For firefox I've checked "smooth scrolling" it's off. Especially Word used to be up to 1page/sec while scrolling with arrow keys, now is down to 5-6 sec/page. Also: normally Word shows the page numbers (lower left corner) changing as you scroll - not anymore in my case. Page numbers remain change only after scrolling stops.
Any ideas?
I can't say whether overall performance is reduced with certainty.
My 2.66GHz machine is clean according to avast antivirus, spybot, adaware & adwatch, Netscape's own spyware scanner. Reg mechanic finds no problems. HD (40GB) is error free and cleaned-up and defragmented. Smooth scrolling options are off.
Thanks to anyone who could help.

I have Lenovo IdeaPad z510 laptop with windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1).
For a few months (or more?) I have a problem with my touchpad:

In some situations it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it works just fine. And sometimes it's so fast that I can't control what it's doing. And it's not always the same speed. And sometimes the faster I try to scroll the slower it actually goes.

Note: I use 2-finger scroll.

Examples:
Google Chrome:
It seems to work just fine, but sometimes (witout any obvious pattern other than that when it happens - it happend everytime I try) when the window is out of focus or when I scroll with just the right speed - it goes uncontrollably fast. And when it does that - the faster I try to scroll the slower it goes (I will later describe it as faster=slower)

Netbeans/all java programs:
Works only when the window is not in focus. And sometimes too fast. And faster=slower

Steam:
Doesn't work at all

Windows CMD window:
Way too fast to do anything. Even with 10000 lines (max) it's so fast that I can't measure the faster=slower effect.

Explorer.exe, Edge browser:
These work fine

What may be possibly wrong and how to fix it!?

I'm 100% sure it's fixable because it works correctly on linux.

For future reference you can just type "mouse" (or whatever you are trying to find) in the start>search thing and it will usually find exactly what you're looking for. It tends to be a lot quicker than actually trying to find stuff through the control panel

Not a major issue but still annoying problem with Elan trackpad on a G505s Win 8.1 x64.Trackpad scroll speeds vary between different programs. When I scroll down it flies with some programs although my settings work fine with others. Same with both Two finger and side scroll. With Opera, Chrome, Libre office and Scrivener it scrolls super fast. MS Word and Firefox work normal.I have tried different versions of the driver. I tried different scroll settings both from windows and elan software. Mouse scroll works the same everywhere.I would appreciate if any one has a solution for this.

Answer:G505s Win 8.1 x64 Elan trackpad Scroll Speed Varies

No one replied. Lenovo updates the drivers only when a major problem occurs or a new OS comes out, which makes sense.I am not a programmer, so this could have been a big mistake. I used an elantech driver for another PC brand. And I?ve changed one registry entry. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\APOptimize\Opera Browser] "Class"="OpWindow" with ?Chrome_WidgetWin_1?. I haven?t tried the trick for other programs. But for opera it worked perfectly.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi I experience differences in the scrolling speed across software programs e.g. windows pathfinder as compared to Spotify or Stata in Windows 10. In fact, it goes anoyingly fast when working with .do-files in Stata or when I scroll my songs in Spotify. I have to use the arrow keys or PgUp/PgDn which requires a click on the right window to be activated. So, could you please help to solve this issue? Indeed, I find that changing the two-finger scrolling on the touchpad trough Elan Smart-Pad works in google chrome but just not very well in say Spotify, hence this new thread. BestJohan

Hi, If i move the bar all the way to Firm Touch the scrolling works just fine. But as soon as i put it on 3rd position or move it further more to the Light Touch, then the scrolling goes just too fast, it's really hard to control it, if you want to scroll like - half the page in google chrome. So my question is how to fix this? How to lower the sensitivity of the scroll?  If i change the number of lines to be scrolled with 1 scroll, nothing happens. Best regards.Tastro

Answer:How to lower the scroll speed for the middle UltraNav button? (X230t)

Hi, Tastro

Have you ensured that you are running the latest BIOS and version of the UltraNav driver? I just tested the scrolling with the TrackPoint on an X230 and didn't find controlling the speed too difficult. It could be that the driver is either out of date or could be having issues. In either case, I would recommend either an update or a reinstalltion, depending on the current version. Both the BIOS and the UltraNav driver can be found here.

Best,
Adam

Hi,

the Alps touchpad driver for W8.1 that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture. With the default speed, even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE_DOWN, e.g. way to fast. The version I use is the latest one from the website (tpdrv-20140306120847.zip)

There is a registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable (set ScrollLines to 1), but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry

A newer Alps Driver (8.103.404.104) from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed, but it does not support 2-finger rightclick.

Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function? Is there a new driver available? Did anyone find a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

Hi

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. It must be the Page Up button/Scroll Lock using the Fn Key, but I've tried it and absolutely nothing happens. The Fn Key works for the upper keys (F1, F5, etc.) but not for the buttons on the side (Home/Pause, End/Break, PgUp/ScrLk, PgDn/Insert). I figure I should reinstall keyboard drivers? I'm really sorry, I've looked through different threads but it seems they all have a different solution and I'm getting a bit confused haha.  Thank you!

Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist  right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

Additionally, it it possible to make the scroll bar transparent but still keep the box that move (or change opacity settings at all)?

What about changing the color of the scroll bar? I always have trouble seeing the box because it is gray on gray.

Hi I am new here

So I have this question. I bought a new laptop and everything seems to be in good order. I have pretty decent working knowledge of a computer and can troubleshoot most things myself, but this one really gets me.

Apparently, this scroll bar jumps back to it's original location after I try to scroll down, or change it's position in any way, so I can't make it stay. I have tried reinstalling the software for the external mouse, but it had no effect. This issue seems to be prominent with the touch pad on the laptop also, so we can assume it isn't a hardware issue, especially since all the other scroll bars work.

The programs I have an issue with are Reason v5 and Steam. Most of you are probably familiar with Steam so I will tell you where I have this issue there. It occurs in the games library with the scroll bar indexing the games on the left. Any ideas??

Thanks for your help in advance.

Oh and just to add to this. I tried scrolling with the keys and it also jumps back.

Answer:Lenovo W510 scroll lock stuck - no scroll lock key

Hi, Anton8

I did some research and found this document from Microsoft that may help. If Scroll Lock is turned on, but there is no Scroll Lock on your keyboard, then you may want to try using the On-Screen Keyboard and see if it is enabled there, There is also a setting on the status bar that should allow you to disable it.

Hope it helps,Adam

You can get speed test, look on ur ISP site to see if they have one available or just search google and u should be able to find one. That will tell ur download speed. U can probably gets ones that test ur upload speed. Their should be a difference in all three, lol and btw i think its just two different types. Download speed is net speed(i think) and the other is upload speed. Download speed will be a lot faster in most cases. Dowloading is for dl things 2 ur comp etc and uploading is for uploading from u to other ppl.
Hope it helps

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@[email protected]#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

Answer:Trackpoint cap

these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.

You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Answer:Is trackpoint durable ?

Hi beickus,It is in my standpoint but you don't have to push it hard to test it's limits, play it gently and use soft hands to use it. A simple touch works best, you don't really have to rest your finger on it. Hope it helps.

I just purchased an E430 and the "period" key was loose.  Upon receiving and replacing the new keyboard, the trackpoint and left/right clickers now do not work.  I've downloaded the latest UltraNAV driver and that did not work.  I've tried to access my Bios at startup but the F1 key does nothing when my system is booting up.  I know my F1 key works fine, as it enables my mute and Google chrome help when I use it normally.  Any suggestions?  I don't think it's user issue from the new install as every other key on the keyboard works just fine.  Thanks!

Answer:TrackPoint Not Working!!!!

Regarding the trackpoint looks like a hardware issue.Regarding the BIOS access it not shutting down Windows but RESTARTING it.Cheers.

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.

No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:

Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.

Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?

Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

Answer:Replacement TrackPoint cap?

some of the cap collection on ebay is fake. The W510 uses the same keyboard as mine T400s, and the real Lenovo trackpoint from T60 fits the T400s keyboard perfectly.

Answer:trackpoint does not work

Does it work properly in a Linux live USB environment?Unlikely, but maybe the motherboard is damaged and breaking the TrackPoint module on the keyboard? Does the keyboard connector look damaged?

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Answer:trackpoint loose

When you say the TrackPoint is loose, are you refering to the red cap that covers it?  If so, it's probably just worn out and needs to be replaced.  You can order replacements from Lenovo.  The part number is 73P2698, and here in the US, they're $9.99.  Sometimes they're also available on eBay.

Question: R400 trackpoint

I have a Thinkpad R400 with Windows 7 installed. I have tried several times to activate the trackpoint with no success.I have checked in the bios screen which lists it as active (automatic) but when I check under mice in the control panel it only gives me the touch pad not the track point.I performed a driver update which gave me UntraNav but it has the track point greyed out. Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a Lenovo T61-8890 A24. It's a pretty old model but has been upgraded to be able to support Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.

I currently am facing a similar issue. In the BIOS, both my trackpoint and touchpad is detected and set to Automatic.
If I remove the entire palm rest and touchpad panel, I'm able to get the trackpoint to work, however once the touchpad is connected, the trackpoint just stops working.

I tried to enable it on the Ultranav program but it just doesn't work.

I tried the mouse properties and the trackpoint function is greyed out as shown below.

When I went into the device manager, the trackpoint is not detected.

I tried installing all versions of Ultranav, tried BIOS updates, tried cleaning the connectors, and still can't get the trackpoint to work together with the touchpad.

Any advice to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 - can't enable TrackPoint

Hi Dyna, Welcome to the forum. When you say Trackpoint doesn't work, do you mean:1. That trackpoint itself is not workingor 2. The left click, right click and scroll buttons associated with the trackpoint doesn't work. ========Also, you did not mention whether your trackpad works or not. Finally, what happens when you disable the trackpad in the BIOS menu? Does that affect your trackpoint and associated buttons' behaviours?

I have a T60 laptop (purchased Jun 2006) which works great except for the trackpoint.  For the last few months, the trackpoint has not been working.  The touchpad works. Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot - 1.  Updated Ultra NAV driver and Utility software (the latest from lenovo website).  Actually un-installed old version and      re-installed new version2.  Updated the BIOS to the newer version and ensured that Trackpoint/NAV is set to enabled in BIOS3.  Replaced the keyboard (assumed it was a hardware problem).  During replacement, I made sure it was properly      seated to rule out a loose connection.4.  The motherboard was replaced last year (due to a another problem) so I assume it may not be the source of problem I have searched this and other websites but am out of luck.  Appreciate if any one can provide more leads/ideas to fix this.  I am not sure if this is software related. Thanks

Answer:Please help - Trackpoint not operational

how about the mouse properties is it enabled there
