Question: Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3Gen) Battery Not Charging (plugged in not charging)

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging" and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Thinkpad X1 carbon gen4 (2016) battery won't charge. Message shows "plugged in, not charging".Just performed a windows 10 (64bit) clean re-install and the problem was still there.All drivers are up to date, and the Lenovo settings UWP app was installed. Battery threshold was turned off (and double checked by looking into the registry).

Have you ever set a battery charge threshold?
 
What happens if you let the battery discharge from the 47% in your screenshot, and then plug it in again?  Will it recharge to ~47%?  Or will it then be stuck at the new (lower) level?

My thinkpad x1 sometimes does not charge at all. It shuts down if I remove the power cable. Normally it does this every two or three charges, but now is stuck at 14% and it will not charge.  I have tried everything, reinstall, install drivers. Reseted from the back. Nothing! If I remove the power, it will shut down. I cannot also access the support site for any drivers, it redirects me to my country  and of course it does not have anything for a population of 3 milion (maybe 100 Lenovos for the total population). Those supporters at Thinkpad must be very stupid to even think about using the location for redirection.

After the latest lenovo solution center update, my X1 carbon seems to not communicate with the battery.The alert from solution center shows Battery: a communication problem has occurred, Health : not available.The battery icon on the lower right of the screen shows plugged in not charging and the laptop can only work on AC.Thanks for yout suggestions.

mine on windows7 does that occasionally and a simple shut down unplug and wait a bit and plug in the charger worksNot sure why it happens but definitely software I believe.

Hi there,  I bought a ThinkPad X1 carbon 3rd generation six months ago. Since the battery charger  was not working properly I called the customer line asking for the charger replacement. But now, using the new battery charger, the issue still remains. The battery charger sometimes works, sometimes not. It's pretty annoying and I don't know how to fix the problem. I cannot even disconnect the battery, so I don't have any idea of how to work the problem out. Can you please help me as soon as possible? I don't know how much time the battery will last. Thank you in advance.

try doing this, enter bios and disable battery use from there make sure AC isnt connected when doing so then connect AC adapter power on laptop and see if it says it's charging

Hello, My recently bought Thinkpad Yoga 14 recently had this strange problem going on. The battery goes down, even when the AC cord is plugged in. The battery message says "plugged in, not charging". What exactly is the problem, and how do I fix it? The laptop came with Windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ??

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

As I'm typing this now im running on about 20% battery and dropping. Yes, this is another thread created because there is a problem with an SL500 and the battery. Have had it for a little over a year (warranty expires after a year). Here is the issue:When my Thinkpad is plugged in and the battery is connected, the battery icon reads plugged in, not charging. Scanned the battery and it says the battery is in good condition. The battery has 84% power. The second I unplug the laptop it immediately loses power and shuts off. Its like the laptop does not recognize there is a battery in it with ample power. I do not think this is a battery issue because the battery has plenty of power.I have seen multiple threads with owners that own the same laptop that have had the same problem. Most of them said they tried buying a new battery and that did not work.To make it even better, I called IBM support and because my machine is no longer under warranty they will not provide support or troubleshooting assistance. On top of that, in order to get the laptop fixed by IBM/Lenovo it is a 575$ fee. This issue has been acknowledged by multiple Thinkpad SL500 owners. This is ridiculous, I bought the **bleep** thing for like 650$. I will probably just buy a new laptop if the problem persists and I cannot fix the issue. We will just have to use this laptop exclusively when it is plugged in only.Any assistance or ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

1: Remove the AC adapter plug.
2: Remove the battery.
3: Press the power button for about 30 seconds. This will clear the capacitors.
4: Insert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
5: Press the power button.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad SL500.
 
I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.
 
Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.
 
If the above said didn?t help, shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC, restart and see.
 
Update BIOS to the latest level.

Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. After a system update yesterday my laptop battery icon indicates that it is plugged in not charging.  A quick Google search revealed this is a known problem however attempts at some of the suggested fixes have been unsuccessful in my situation.  I've tried:taking out the battery and uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Batteryupdating the power management driverupdating Lenovo Settings Dependency Package(The Windows power plan is set to balanced) The timing of the problem (after an update) and the fact that the laptop is 2 months old lead me to think it is a software rather than a hardware problem. Any helpful suggestions for what I could try next?

I have a Lenovo T430 running UBUNTU 14.04
 
I have just bought a new battery (official battery) and it was fine for a couple of weeks, but now it doesnt charge, and the battery light flashes amber continually. I checked the battery status and it says 0 for charging.
 
I have searched online and there are suggestions for WIndows about deleting drivers, but with UBUNTU there doesnt seem to be a solution?

Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

How old is it? Most likely the battery if you use it a lot on battery power, not plugged in.

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

I have a brand new X1 Carbon model 20BS laptop that won't charge. I plug it into the wall and it says "Plugged in, not charging". The battery will run down to 10% and then stay there. I have done the following to try and make it charge: 1) I updated to the latest version of the Lenovo Power Manager and the Power Management Driver2) I have tried a different charger and a different wall outlet3) I have tried changing when the laptop starts charging (I set it to 85%), rebooted, and then changed it back to default4) I have tried reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver in device manager5) I tried the battery gauge reset in the Lenovo Power Manager6) I have tried replugging in the battery I have been able to make it charge by turning off the laptop, unplugging it, going into the BIOS, and turning the battery off. The laptop then shuts down and I plug the power cable back in and turn it on. This will get the laptop to charge for the day but then when I shut it down at the end of the day and come back, it is back to not charging. Interestingly enough, this problem seems to be tied to the SSD in the laptop not the battery. I actually have two of this same model, bought at the same time. I unboxed the second laptop and swapped the SSDs. Have a brand new X1 Carbon running windows 7.  It originally came with Windows 8 but had to downgrade to run a necessary work application (which could be the problem).  My battery never exceeds 50% even when plugged in for extended periods.  Also, I am not seeing any of the "Rapid Charge" that was promoted.  Please advise, thanks

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Hi guys, I have an issue related to the famous "plugged in, not charging". Laptop bought on 11/2013. Since 6 months I have the "plugged in, not charging" issue randomly (sometimes twice per day, sometimes once per week).  In my case, I was using 2 solutions when I was in "plugged in, not charging":1. restart de PC unplugged, and then replugging. Most of the times that solved the issue, and battery charges correctly.2. if not possible to restart, then unplug and replug several times until full battery. When replugging, the chargin process started again during 4-5 minutes, so that could give me an extra 10% of battery until the system falls again on the "plugged in, not charging" problem. BUT!!Since 1 month, I've noticed that when "unplugging" the laptop, it shutdowns!! Not all the times, I think it's linked to the "plguged in, not charging" (even if I'm not sure). AND WORST:Today, I had the plugged in not charging, I unplug the AC adaptor and... shutdown! I replug, restart but still not charging (battery remains at 20%).I wait a little bit and hear a strange noise under the keyboard. Mine did it back in 2010, and it was a hardware problem.. they had to change the motherboard. You might want to check in your power management setting to see what is the % left needed to start charging.

Hello! I am coming back to my laptop after not having used in much over the summer and I noticed that it says "plugged in, not charging". When I unplug it, the battery starts to go down but it will not go back up if I plug it back in. I have a Thinkpad S431 running Windows 10 (and has been running Win 10 for a long time) that is several years old. Just today I noticed that the battery symbol says "plugged in, not charging." 
 
I tried to research this problem and many suggestions involved removing the actual battery which I cannot do. I tried all of the other suggestions I found and nothing has worked.
 
Any suggestions? The Lenovo companion app tells me the AC adapter is working and the battery is in good condition.
 
I can't think of anything that has changed that might have caused this - no recent downloads or anything or malware.

Hi, I have thinkpad R61i laptop model 7650 A6G. The charging light is continuously blinking orange. The laptop works normally when AC adapter is plugged and on and shows plugged in but not charging. I cannot turn on my laptop on battery. Power manager reports that battery has failed due to normal wear. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery. Earlier, the battery was working fine. The problem came few hours later after upgrading to windows 7. I have tried plugging out the AC, removing the battery, reinstalling but nothing worked. I have upgraded BIOS. The battery was working absolutely fine earlier. Any suggestion.........

Hi,My SL500 battery is not charging and I am getting the message that "Plugged in, not charging" if I rollover my cursor or click on battery charging icon. I have scanned my system for hardware and software issues using the Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox it says battery condition is good and scan passed (no issues regarding software and hardware).Should I trust on this test?The problem started when my laptop battery got discharged completely and my system got shutdown by itself (due to discharged battery). I was working till late night, so at the time when my system got down by itself; I did not kept it on charger and I got asleep. Next morning after 8-9 hours I booted my system and it was not charging my battery and system says 26% battery, but when I try to keep my system on battery it just shuts down.I thought there might be some problem with my AC adaptor, so I tested with new AC adaptor and the problem remains same it was not charging the battery.Any suggestions what should I do? Answer:ThinkPad SL500 Plugged in not charging !

First off - if it's under warranty send it back.  It could be that the charging system on the laptop is fried, meaning the A/C current is passing through to POWER the system, but not charge the battery.  It's more likely that your battery is in fact damaged and misreporting the results to you. You could try disconnecting EVERYTHING (battery removed from th laptop, A/C Adapter disconnected from laptop AND the wall) and let everything sit and discharge for a few hours.  Then, plug the A/C adapter back into the laptop (with the battery out) and start the system.  If it comes up OK, power off, add the battery in and repeat.  If it's a simple issue, that will solve it.  Otherwise the problem is more involved and HOPEFULL you have a warranty.

I ran the battery test, result: "weak (30) The battery is functioning correctly, but due to normal aging of the battery, the battery life between charges is now significantly shorter than when it was new." So it seems the battery isn't defective, even though it's getting old. I hesitate to run the battery calibration because appaently that will fully discharge the battery, and maybe it will never re-charge. I upgraded to Win10 a few days before this happened; don't know whether that might have contributed to this problem. What's going on here and how can I fix it?

If the battery life between charges is shorter, that means that it is no longer functioning as it did when newer. The result of the test already told you that it is wearing out. You can remove the battery and use the noteboook temporarily without it. Performing a calibration at this point will not help. New computer with very minimal usage.  Basically sat in the box for one year, now, error message states that battery is plugged in not charging.  I've tried testing, and diagnostics reports "unknown."  I've tried a few youtube fixes such as removing the battery drivers and allowing them to reinstall, and tried updating bios.  There is no way that this battery should have died.  Has there been a recall that anyone is aware of? Also, noticed that the case is cracked at the hinge on left side.  I'm super careful and I don't even know how this could happen.  This was not an inexpensive computer!!! Although this sat in box, the warranty is now expired.   Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

I bought a used laptop from Newegg about December, and for some odd reason I keep having issues with the battery not charging. It first stated that the battery is 0% available, plugged in, but not charging. I looked it up online, I tried going to the Device Manager and find the Batteries;Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, right click, and uninstall the driver. Then I went to the Action menu at the top of Device Manager, and Scan for Hardware Changes. I waited for it to reinstall the driver. That didn?t work. I tried to do it in safe mode and did the same thing, and it didn't work either. Then I tried to uninstall the battery config, powered down, removed battery, powered up with power supply then reconnected battery, still didn't work. So then I bought another battery from Amazon, that worked for awhile then I had the same issue. So I returned that battery. I just bought another battery 2 weeks ago and now am having the same issue. Now I am thinking this all cannot be a coincidence and it must be the laptop. Do you have any suggestions please and thank you.

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed here, I do not see a way to search this forum.
I have an Inspiron 15, 5000 series laptop running Windows 10.  It worked using AC power, but not battery.  The toolbar battery icon message says "0% available (plugged in, not charging).  I have tried several variations of online recommendations to remove the battery and either disable, reinstall, or uninstall drivers.  All were unsuccessful.  
I did notice that if I remove the battery, the battery icon says "no battery detected".  When I plug it back in, the text changes for about 1 minute to "0% (plugged in, charging), and the icon shows charging, but then it reverts to the 'normal' "not charging" status.
Based on this info, how do i determine if this is a hardware problem requiring a new battery, if it is a software problem other then the driver problem that tried earlier, or some other charger problem?

I got my Inspiron 15-5000 series recently notice that the battery charged up to 60% and stop charging after that.
I was trying to change the setting in the Dell Power Management Lite many times but the setting does not work and also try to uninstall the battery drivers several time but it seen does not work.

I have been faced with quite a frustrating computer/ battery problem. You see my computer does not turn on, that is unless it is plugged in with my charger in which case it will it will turn on. However, when I click on the bottom right-hand corner battery symbol it will provide me with the statement saying, " Plugged in not charging". On top of this, I did check the battery status on my computer, it provided me with the information that my computer battery is, "Ok", however, needs charging.This leads me to wonder is this a battery problem or an AC Adapter problem.

HiI had bought this HP Model 11-N010TU Processor Brand Intel Processor Type Quad Core Processor Model N3520 Processor Speed (GHz) 2.16 Processor Max Speed (GHz) 2.42 Installed RAM 8GB RAM Type DDR3 on Dec-2014. The battery has been working great until last week where it starts giving plugged in, not charging with 0% remaining. I had tried to plug in directly to different wall socket but yielding same results. Troubleshooting carried out:1. I had run HP Battery check on HP Support Assistant and it gave healthy battery status. 2. So the next step is I went to a local shop to try and plug in and try with brand new power supply unit suggested by the technician. The results were the same with plugged in not charging error message. 3. I had tried the extensive hardware check by pressing Esc, f2 prior booting into windows and it gave all good results. 4. I had open up the cover dismantle the battery socket to the motherboard and plug that in again by hoping it could reset the battery but it doesn't help. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

My battery now shows 0% available. I have run the diagnostic from hp assist, and got the message to recalibrate. I cant. My battery wont charge, and my computer wont turn on when it is unplugged. I ran the system extensive test and got , in red; FAILURE ID : U4XCXV-75F83H-MFPV7G-C0B303. Can somebody please help me?

My HP 15 Notebook is almost 2 years old and all of the sudden the battery stops working. I know that the battery's performance has decreased a bit but it shouldnt be dead. One day a wake up to find that it doesnt turn on so i plug n the charger and it turns on and says consider replacing the battery soon but after a few minutes i realize it says plugged in but not charging at 0% (and it wasnt at 0% when i turned it off) When I try to run a battery test in HP support assistant it keeps saying status unknown (so how can it tell that I need a new battery but cant detect it which is why i think its a glitch) and that i should remove and then re insert the battery but still nothing changes and it it telling me that I have the updated version. I've tried uninstalling the battery drivers multiple times after which i was notified that a drive was missing and had to reset my laptop (for the second time the frist being after windows 10 caused a drive to "go missing") and still nothing.I am desperate please help me

I used a friends charger to charge my laptop on wednesday which was the 16th of november and when the battery charged up to like 86% i had the plugged in not charging notification. If the problem is triggered by new Windows update or changes on configuration , you may try this steps:
 
Step 1
First try power drain. 
Turn off , unplug the charger , remove the battery and press down the power button for 20 seconds. 
Restart and check for charging . 
 
Step 2
Else proceed uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method from Device Manager .  
Then restart. (click on highlight for detail step)
 
Step 3
Uninstall Energy Management from Programs and Features similar to this and restart .
Check if charging and then Install new updated version of the Energy Manager from the support site under Power Management component for your Windows version. 
 
With Li-based batteries , chemicals can go disarray / not evenly distibuted for utilization be that any battery manufacturer  that supplies to your model. 
 
None the less  , if this would happen to you often and that you have tried all 3 steps . 
Please call in tech support to best assist you to get things resolved within it's warranty coverage .

Yesterday, my computer stopped charging. It was fine the day before, but when I got up yesterday, I noticed I was losing juice. My battery icon says "battery plugged in, not charging." It doesn't charge when it's off, either.  This computer has an internal battery that I cannot remove. I have already tried uninstalling Microsoft ACPI and that didn't help. I have looked at the pin inside the power adapter and it seems to be properly aligned, though it's so small it's hard to tell for sure. It does seem like the adapter isn't plugging in all the way beacuse it's a bit wiggly, but that could be because of the dumb placement of the battery port.Please help! I'm a writer and I can't work with a dead computer!

i have been on forums and followed the steps given ( removing battery and ac power and holding down power button for 1 minute etc) and the problem persists. my laptop is just out of warranty and my battery cannot need replacing after only just over a year. ive also seen on forums that this is a common problem with HP, have updated bios and drivers, is there anything else i can do? please help

I recently received a HP Stream Notebook - 13-c055na (ENERGY STAR) from a freind and they told me that battery did not work and needed replacing. I began using the computer and everytime it started the computer came up saying: Primary (internal) battery 601 needs to be replaced since it is detecting the storge capacity to be low. So i got a new battery and its doing the exact same thing and will just shut off whenever the ac adapter is not plugged in. I have changed the power plan settings and this made no difference.

Press Esc at power up and then F2 to run the diagnostics menu and there should be a component test for the battery that you can run.

Battery plugged in, not charging:Age of laptop 27 months My battery doesn't charge anymore.  If I make a HP battery test on my HP Support Assistant it shows me as a result : Battery OK.  Meaning: The battery is functioning properly. If I test the battery with an additional programm it shows me a battery wear level 100%. This means, the battery should not be rechargeable anymore.  - What should I do?- Replace battery?- I have a capacitiy of 18% left. What happens if I reach 0%? I have a lenovo b40, which isn't charging. Yesterday it showed "plugged in, not charging". Now, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't display anything. Also, the power light is blinking. I pressed down the power switch with the battery attached, it simply blinked faster. When I tried the same thing without the battery, nothing happened.

Hello, I only bought this laptop a few weeks ago and it does not seem to charge propery (or so it says). As the title suggests when plugged in and I hover over the batter it says "plugged in not charging" It has been like this for a couple weeks now and still has not gone flat as long as it is plugged in, so some sort of charging must be taking place right?  Just want to know if I can fix this just so I am able to see when it's charging and use it without leaving it plugged in. Currently I keep it plugged in at all times in fear of it dying. Thanks for any help in advance.

Just bought a new Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-791G-76Z8 a  couple of days ago.  I've kept the laptop plugged in but the battery level has been dropping by about 1% per day.  The power charging light is always blue and it says "plugged in, not charging".  I'm running Windows 10 and have installed the Power Management update from the Acer Care Center app.  What's wrong and how do I fix it. Thanks

Hello, Have you tried a battery reset? Disconnect the AC adapter.Gently insert a paperclip in the battery reset hole on the bottom side of your laptop.Reconnect the AC adapter, and resume normal use.

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the original one had lost endurance, it would last only about 45 minutes, anyway. So I put the new battery in and the computer sometimes doesn't recognize it, sometimes it does but most of the time it says : Plugged in but not charging.

I'm not too sure what to do, I made sure to buy the exact same battery with the same model #, etc.

1. Shut Down the laptop.
2. Press the power button then tap the F2 key until a blue screen appears.

HP Community,I am having an issue with the laptop battery. When it is plugged in, the battery does not charge. The start bar icon says "Plugged in, not charging". I just replaced the AC Adapter this week.  I ran the startup diagnostic test and it said that there was a battery failure but when I run the HP Battery Check throug HP Support Assistant, it says the battery is functioning properly. 1) If I calibrate the battery, will this fix the issue? 2) Does the battery actually need replaced? Getting one diagnostic saying yes and another saying no is confusing and frustrating. 3) If calibration does not fix the issue, is there steps I can try to take to resolve the issue before buying a new battery? 4) If I do need to buy a new battery, can I get a product number for the battery I would need to purchase? I have been trying to find a listing with the battery type on it but I cannot find a list with HP Pavilion 13 360x listed. I looked here (http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentView?storeId=10151&eSpotName=BatteryFinder&cata...) and that includes looking at the list under the "Laptop Not Listed?" button. Thanks,A concerned HP user looking for some juice for my battery!

Hello,
I own Inspiron 5547 Model. My laptop is not running on battery. LED indicator of battery is also not flashing. Laptop works fine when plugged in and shows "75% available (Plugged in, Not Charging)". In system diagnosis and dell diagnosis, it says that battery is healthy, working normally and perfectly fine.
Also Battery is on 75% since many days. Its not getting charged or discharged.
Please suggest some solution.

P.S. : It is a non removable battery.

Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter charge the battery fine when plugged in? 
Disconnect the adapter and check if the battery begins discharging. 
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Also, while in BIOS, go to advanced tab and check under Battery Charge Configuration if there is a custom stop percentage set. 
Update the BIOS and check - http://dell.to/2mzKrjE 
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another adapter and battery to confirm which component is causing the issue. 
If another adapter / battery also exhibits the same behavior and if the adapter and dc port are fine in BIOS, then the motherboard might be at fault.

My computer is only working when connected to power unless ut shuts down abruptly. It shows plugged in, not charging. And whenever, I try to do the battery check, it says battery not detected. I am getting this error on my laptop and it is only 8 months old and have tried 2 batteries and the same thing is happening and Dell customer support last night told us it is NOT covered under warranty because it is wear and tear which does not make any sense to me i have owed several dells in the past and never had this problem.

The problem is with the adapter, DC jack or mainboard - replace the parts one at a time until the problem is solved.
As long as there's no evident damage (broken wires on the plug, broken DC jack) the warranty should cover the problem.
If there is evidence of damage - broken wires, broken jack, physical damage to the system -- Dell will deny warranty coverage as it'll be considered accidental damage.
If you need parts references we'll need to know what model system it is (i.e., Inspiron 5537, XPS L501x, etc.).

Acer laptop
2 months old

I did the followings but did not fix it :

Unplugged the machine
Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
Turned off the machine
Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

The title is the message I've been getting for about the past month and a half. I noticed my battery draining, even while plugged in, until it finally got to 0%. With the power adapter plugged in, the laptop still runs but I just recently had an experience where the laptop was suddenly cutting off, even while plugged in.I've done as much troubleshooting as possible, but I haven't been able to figure out the problem. I managed to switch the laptop over into power saver mode and it's been letting me use it without dying immediately on me. I have an internal battery, so the option to remove and power it on separately isn't an option for me.
