Battery clip X230 - not broken, but not holding battery in

Question: Battery clip X230 - not broken, but not holding battery in

The clip that is spring-actioned (#2) no longer extends into the battery, so the battery slips out and powers down all the time. Is this an issue that should be covered by my extended warranty?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I broke the battery clip on my motherboard where the horizontal part of the clip meets the vertical part. I tried putting the clip back on tightly with duct tape, but when I shut down the computer for a few hours and turn it back on, I get a 'bad CMOS battery' or a configuration error. I then have to fix the date and the time again in the BIOS (CMOS?) screen. I am guessing that this happens because it is not making good contact. I can't get the broke part of the clip out of the plastic holder, which holds the battery. Does anyone have a solution to this problem besides replacing the motherboard? Can the plastic holder be replaced somehow? Can I somehow solder it? Thanks for your time!!!

Hi,
I was messing the CMOS battery, trying to get it out and I accidently broke one of the 4 plastic clips that hold it down. I'm looking for suggestions to fix this, firstly, I was thinking of super gluing the clip back on, sounds dodgy, don't think this can be soldered as it's plastic to plastic. Is there any other way I can hold this down?

Hello everybody, I have a problem with the 2 battery clips which are holding the battery in the guidance. They're broken and now the battery doesn't hold in the guidance without fixing the 2 clips with tape. Has anybody else the same problem and now what I can do against it?

Where can I eventually buy these clips?

Thanks...

Answer:Portege R830-1EE - broken battery clip

I cannot say for sure but I think you will not be able to buy these clips as separately parts.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask how it can be fixed.

You know possibility to buy some small parts for notebooks are very limited and it is not so easy to fix such things.

When i use a pen to open the clip i can eject the battery and reseat it, but the laptop will not boot from the battery and will not charge the battery. Is there a way to make the laptop know the battery is present without the lock clip? and how does this clip work? Hi guys, I have had my x230 thinkpad laptops for two months now. The laptop suddenly just switches itself off without any indication of needing charging, there was no beebs sounded nor a flash or  blink indicating battery low, it just suddenly dies. i.e switched off. The only way of bringing it back up of course is plugging the power lead back in until it's fully charged. I'm currently running Vmware vsphere ESXi and  Citrix Xenserver, the question here is: - Is there a way of setting the battery indicator / button to beep perhaps via BIOS when battery is low ? - shouldn't the battery indicator button i.e. the one by the left show orange or blink orange before die-ing out ? - I understant I'm running some kind of Linux / Cent OS i.e. being vsphere or Citrix Xen would this affect the battery indicator not to show before dieing ? I also have windows 7 professional currently running on another x230 laptop, I will test to see whether the battery indicator button on that one indicate anything before dieing. Any ideas renderd is appreciated.

Answer:x230 Battery indicator button does not work nor indicate battery low before dieing

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 suddenly turns off without any low battery indication.

Update Power manager and Power management driver to the latest version and check the status of the battery in Power manager.

Try doing a battery reset. It involves charging your battery to 100%, and then discharging it completely to 0%. Once that?s done you charge it back to 100% to complete the calibration.
Please note that battery reset is a time consuming process. So I would suggest you to do it overnight. Change the power plan settings to ensure that system doesn?t enter sleep or hibernate during the reset.
Refer this document to understand how to perform a battery gauge reset.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

Answer:Battery Loose / Battery wiggle in x230 and LENOVO ...

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.

The other day I was using my x230 on battery (Sanyo 9-cell) , and the level dropped suddenly from 40% to 6%, so I decided to do a battery gauge reset. The charging has been stuck at 99% for a couple of hours now and I'm concerned that it will never reach 100% so that the reset moves to phase 2 where it discharges the battery. I've noticed before that the battery never went past 99%, but it seemed like a minor detail, but for the sake of resetting the battery gauge, it seems essential that it reaches 100%. Any insights on this? Should I leave the reset functionality running in hope that it knows what it's doing? How many hours can it take to go from 99% to 100%? thanks Vicentiu

So... I was trying to search that problem (many of us has troubleshooting with battery) but I think I must write that post.First: since month I have error from my Windows 7 (64bit, professional edition): Consider replacing battery, bla bla bla... Is that a problem with my drivers or witch 3 years old battery?Secondly: to that trouble i can add that yesterday my charger has broken... So today i was testing my laptop with other searching some troubles on main board. Tension was not stable until battery was fully charged. Then after 5 minutes (time needs to drop battery level under 60% from 93%) i was again not stable (+/- 1A). So I think it is problem with battery, I'm right?Last thing: is there any software to format battery for Lenovo Y530? I mean I want to try repair my battery if this is possible. I wanted to format battery from my BIOS but there is any option to do this. Is there any software which allows to format battery manually without BIOS? Or just I must upgrade BIOS? Can I get link to download new version of BIOS? Thanks for reply  Ahh I forgot...Is that important in which order I'm trying to install drivers? I bought computer with Vista later I bought Windows 7 and then was troubles with battery and others... So that is important which driver I install first (I mean: "first you must install that driver then that later this and on the end that one")?

After a couple years of use, my X220's battery clips/locks have failed. Both clips/locks (left and right) are in the locked position, but the battery slips right off if pulled away. I have reviewed this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-replacing-battery-clips/td-p/891177 Will replacing the battery clips using the materials in the parts kit referenced in the above thread solve my problem? Better question: can this be repaired by a service center? My X220 is not warrantied-- how much would something like this cost, approximately? I do use my laptop on the go all the time, so the battery has to be secure.

Answer:x220 battery clips/locks broken, battery slips out

take some pictures of the battery and the battery bay area. If it is the battery, then it is cheap. If it is the laptop's battery bay clip on the chassis, then it would require a new bottom case and that would cost around 300 dollars at least including labour for an out of warranty repair. You can do it yourself, by disassembling the system and replacing the base. A new base should cost around 80 to 100 dollars from IBM parts.

So, I've had my computer for approximatly 2 years, and it wtill works really well with almost everything. However, about a month ago, my computer stopped charging. Meaning that to use it, it would have to be plugged in CONSTANTLY. After a while I got tired of this (and I know it's not great on my computer, either.) So, I bought a new battery, which worked for about 2 days, then had the exact same problem. I'm really irritated because my computer says on startup that "my battery isn't holding maximum capacity," and that I should replace it. However, this has obviously not helped, and I'm beginning to think that the battery isn't actually the problem. Has anyone dealt with this in the past, or know what is wrong with my computer/battery?

Over the last 6 months or so my XPS 11 has been loosing charge when not turned on. I exit windows with the "Shut Down" option, not "Sleep" so I expect everything to be turned off. Overnight the charge drops from 100% to about 65%, and if I leave it turned off for more than a couple of days there is no charge at all when I try and turn it on.
I have run the BIOS battery check as well as the Dell system diagnostics and they both report a healthy battery.
Has anyone else seen this problem and can suggest a remedy? It is really annoying!

My HP G62 laptop sometimes displays a black screen when I try to boot up.   After researching, I found a work around:   remove battery, plug in AC adaptor and charge without battery for 30 min or so.   Then the notebook starts up with video OK, either with the battery (no AC),  with the battery (with AC), or no batery with AC.   If operating on batter with no AC for a while, then re booting the problem may re-occur.   I  have read that this might be the CMOS battery not being charged by the notebook's main battery.   How do I fix this?  do I replace the CMOS battery, main battery, both or neither?    Thanks for any help.

Answer:CMOS - RTC battery not holding charge - HP G62

@huskerjack Welcome to HP Support Forum. Firstly the CMOS (or RTC) battery is not a chargeable battery. Please run a battery test, if failed you need a new (main) battery.            https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c00821536 Regards.

I recently bought a replacement battery for my Lenovo U430 ideapad laptop.  I purchased this laptop about two years ago. It still had the original battery installed, so I thought it was time to buy a new battery. I purcahsed the new battery on ebay, and had it installed by the IT person at my job.

It is not charging at ALL. In order for my laptop to even work properly it has to be plugged in at all times now, where the orignal battery at least let me have about 30 minutes before I had to plug it in.

I currently live an work in Budapest, Hungary, so I have an apapter I need to plug into the wall to charge my laptop, since the power cord is originally from the U.S. I mention this in case it is causing the reason for this charging issue??

Thanks for you any help you can provide.

I purchased my Yoga 900 in June, 2016.  I recently experienced my battery not holding a charge for more than 3 hours.  I used the free version of Driver Talent to scan for updates to my drivers.  Two needed to be updated. I updated both, rebooted and my battery showed a charge period for 6 hours and 23 minutes.  I believe this occurred after the recent windows 10 update.   I had a difficult time trying to discern the exact solution by searching through this forum.  Hopefully, this post will help others to find a quick solution.

I bought my T460 in order to have a giant battery life but this has not lasted more than 3 hours, according to the seller and the site itself, this model with two batteries and integrated board would have a autonomy of 10.4 hours, which does not happen. Detail, this note came with Windows 8.1, I upgraded to version 10. Is there any patch management that I should apply for the extended autonomy?

Hello

Just one question: What answer do you expect now? I mean the case is clear or what do you think about this?

The battery should be replaced if the charge doesn?t hold more than half an hour. Therefore you should contact an authorized service provider. They can sell all original Toshiba spare parts and so you will get the right battery for your notebook:

Hi All! So to make a very long story short... After my battery issue wasn't fixed at the Depot, Lenovo set me up with an onsite technician.  They sent multiple replacement parts since the problem wasn't discovered at the Depot.  I believe the port for the charging cable was replaced, the battery, the motherboard, and also the charging cable itself.  The laptop is holding charge as far as I know, it's only been a couple days.  However, it seems something is still not registering correctly which makes me fear there will be another issue in the near future.  Whenever my computer is plugged in, and my mouse is hovered above the battery icon it says (36% available, plugged in, charging).  Which is what I believe it should say BUT within less than a minute if I move my mouse over the battery again it will say "04 min to full charge."  This is clearly not the case. So my question here is 1. Does anyone know why this would be registering incorrectly? If so, any solutions?  And 2. Should I call back warranty before it expires to make them aware of the issue?  I understand that my computer seems to be working fine right now but clearly there is still an issue for it not to be registering correctly and I absolutely do not want to wait until it's too late and my warranty is up to do something about it.  I would really appreciate some input or suggestions! Thanks!Whitley

Hi,

Do you have any apps or services hogging the CPU?

Maybe there is something in Task Manager using 90%+ CPU. If not, maybe there is dust buildup in the heatsink or some other cooling problem.

If you turn on eco mode, does that extend the battery to 2+ hours?

I broke the clip off the CMOS battery holder, i've looked into soldering a new holder on etc etc, is there any reason why i could'nt just use some sellotape to hold the battery in the holder ?

Answer:CMOS Battery Holder Clip

Well, the real reason is it probably won't make a good contact. Since that is stainless steel, you won't be soldering the clip back on. You can take the battery holder from an old MB and replace the holder.

If you really want to tape it on, I'd use some sponge rubber over the top to put tension on the battery and then tape it in.

Do I need a new base kit? One of the clips that secure the removable battery on my x201 has broken.

Perhaps I was a little too forceful and sawed off the plastic tip which use to hold the battery in place.

I have read other posts regarding a similar predicament on the x220 and I have seen related replies with the appropriate part number for replace. That research leads me to believe I need a new base kit as a solution. I believe I may have a few more months on the warranty, and if the warranty is still alive, would the warranty solution require me to mail the computer to a service provider?

Answer:X230 battery not discharging

Hi,unfortunately Lenovo doesn't offer Power Manager application for win8 as well the OS doesn't allow to check out battery settings we need using built-in tools.Perhaps installation of Power Manager for win7 in compatibility mode will show you the battery statistics. I mean a cycle count. This one of the key statistic parameters. What to do? 1. Perform a battery reset. No problem in win7 but even in compatibility mode PM might not allow to do that. But I didn't check.2. As the win8 keeps the battery fully charged all the time, it decreases the battery healthy. Solution is to set the battery charge threshold. Again, it's possible but not in PM under win8. Only 3rd party tools do that. Also there are tons attempts to change the registry settings for that purpose here on forum but I can't confirm a success.Regarding the FPR if you don't see anything unusual in BIOS Setup and Device Manager solution is standard - remove and reinstall FPR sw. If that will not resolve an issue disassemble keyboard and palmrest and check out ribbon cable from FPR and its connect to the systemboard.

Hi lemarseillais,

Check out this specs page: ThinkPad X230 Laptop

Under battery life: "Up to 24 hours with optional Lenovo 90W Ultraslim AC/DC Combo Adapter"

Higher drain activities include watching videos, multitasking with many browser tabs or windows etc. An SSD typically uses less power than a HDD due to the fact that it has no moving parts so yes, that could be more efficient for you.

I hope that helps!

Ed

Answer:X230 battery not charging

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that battery of your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 is not charging.

I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.

Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.

Shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC and restart and see.
Download latest Power Manager and Power Management driver.
Uninstall Power Manager and Power Management driver that is already installed.
Reboot the laptop
Install Power Manager and Power Management driver
Reboot laptop again and see if helps.

Go to Power manager -> Battery tab in advanced view -> Battery maintenance -> Select always fully charge ->Ok and restart the system.

Ensure that the system is plugged-in and that battery firmware is up-to-date.  Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.  Perform battery gauge reset.  This will allow the battery to relearn available capacity. Update BIOS to the latest level.

Regarding Mic, check if it is working fine with windows sound recorder or is it just an issue with Skype alone. Go to control panel -> Sound. Under the recording tab, check if you have enabled the mic.

Please post back with the results!

Hello guys I am ready to order ThinkPad x230 from Lenovo.de but the only option for the battery is 29, 29+ and 29++. Will there be a problem or can I continue with the order?

Answer:Thinkpad X230 and 29++ battery

The ThinkPad X230 uses 44, 44+ or 44++ batteries. The 29 series batteries are only made for ThinkPad X220. The 29 batteries in the X230 will not charge, as it will be seen as NON-authentic battery. http://www.thinkscopes.com/29-29-or-29-batteries-in-the-thinkpad-x230/

Hi, I've been looking around for a laptop with the best battery life on the market and I've read the ThinkPad x230 ( http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/x-series/x230/ ) has a quite high battery life, I was wondering how to achieve that, on this site here; http://blog.laptopmag.com/all-day-strong-longest-lasting-notebooks  it says it can achieve even up to 20 hours and 46 minutes with a 9 cell battery and sheet batteries, so I've looked around for the 9 cell battery on your website and I found out it can be ordered with the laptop or separately so that's not a problem but the problem is with the battery sheet, as far as I am aware, the only one that supports the inbuilt battery is the 6 cell battery sheet here  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-76758 but I am still unsure how it all works, if I got the 6 sheet cell battery along with the 9 cell battery with the laptop would they somehow combine their battery life and work as one and when I charge the battery sheet would it charge both of the batteries and indicate the level of both on the battery sheet? will it really achieve 20 hours of battery life without me having to change any settings in the laptop to draw power from another power source (if i left the laptop on and unattended)? I'm really looking forward to buying this laptop if the batteries join and work as one and can get up to 20 hou... Answer:x230 Best Battery Life

Hi Eryklok,Thought I share my experience with you. I have an x220 with a 6cell battery. It is rated at a 7 hour battery life. Though, I find that the only way you can achieve that battery life is when you bring down the display really low to 1-3 levels out of 15. It gets pretty dark then. But if you're in an office environment the bright lights above should make reading text a manageable task. Not optimal, but of you are really in a crunch and want to save on battery life. Else you could vary the brightness to 50% and you should get close to the 7 hours with light usage. With max brightness, I normally get apporximately 5-6 hours of battery life.As I understand it, the newer processors are really power efficient so should have to worry too much about that. I would recommend seeking a 9cell battery option opposed to the slice battery option. Due to the compromise and the added weight factor. Perhaps that could last you and you could factor a charge at your desk at the end of each work day.Generally speaking, you should get fairly decent performance out of box. Of course this is dependant on your workload on the processor.

Question: X230 Battery Issue

Hi - possibly having some issues with my battery. I've owned the system (X230) for under a year, but the battery life has dropped off significantly since I purchased the machine. I ordered it with a 9 cell, 94WHr battery... As of right now, grabbing the battery report from Windows (the utility bundled with 8) tells me that my laptop is capable of full charge to 75WHr, and the rated capacity is about 86WHr. Now, the funny thing is, according to the same report, I've only been on battery for about 117 Hours... Which any conservative estimate - saying 5 hours per full charge, would put it only at about 25 cycles. I've attached the battery report as a link for anybody that cares to have a look over it on my Google Drive. Save it to your desktop (antivirus, if necessary), and have a look. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6cMyYBAjcPJY0NiNjVxU2hPV0E/edit?usp=sharing Any advice on this issue would be quite welcome, thanks.

Answer:X230 Battery Issue

Hey there i've been having the same problem as well! I dont know whether its something wrong with the battery or my cpu as its constantly showing about 10% usage. Luckily i have a 3 year warranty so I can order a new one but it seems strange that the battery life can suddenly decrease from over 10 hours to about 6-7

I've only just begun using my new Thinkpad x230 and the battery life is pathetic. It IS a 4 cell, but the battery didn't last for a couple of hours running only open office on power saver settings. Is this normal?  (it's a core i7 16gig machine with the premium IPS display)    Thanks so much!

I've just moved this from an old threat that died out a year ago.  1. Just bought a new X230, and my 6 cell battery is a little loose! Rang up support, and they were a bit skeptical and not too helpful - wanted a photo of the problem! So I'm waiting for an email so that I can send them some photos. But I expect them to say it isn't enough of a problem - but let's see.  This is the 7th TP I've owned since 2000, and the first one I've bought new, and never had any such problem. The service I've had from IBM was excellent, that that seems to have somewhat disappeared with the move to Lenovo.  2. Just received the email, sent the photos, and after a chat with support they decided that there is nothing to interfere with the working of the machine, and that such movement is quite normal. I mentioned that at present there is no interference with the working of the machine, but in time such movement may cause problems with the contacts between the battery and the machine, but they didn't agree. I also mentioned that it is clearly a question of poor workmanship - no previous thinkpad I've owned has ever had this problem, so the 'normal' movement' is not 'normal'. So how does one take this further 'up the ladder'?  If I don't get any joy with this complaint, then I'm putting the X230 on eBay, and buying a Mac!

Answer:X230 with loose battery

Update: The support chap has sent a 'template' of my complaint 'upstairs'.  They'll contact me later about this. So let's see 1) if they do; 2) what they say.

Turned off my computer, turned it back on and it updated before going to home screen.Ever since, it says 3-4 hours max on LIGHT BROWSING or NO USAGE at all. 6 Cell, previously got 6-7 hrs. Nothing's changed in my software usage or background programs. This is pathetic, I've had way too many problems with this machine and am utterly astonished at what Lenovo has done to the ThinkPad brand. This happened on my previous laptop that had way too much screen backlight bleed, I can't remember if I updated before this occured either.  With all these problems, I won't be buying any machine from Lenovo again.

Specifically, does it remain within the volume of the X230 configured with the smaller batteries?  I have an X61s that I added the largest battery available (from Lenovo) to, and the thing sticks out the back along the entire rear edge of the laptop, making it about .75" deeper.  Does something like that happen with the 9-cell attached to the X230?  Thanks.

Answer:How big is the 9-cell battery for an X230?

'afternoon.

the 9-cell sticks out the back and, i believe, raises the rear by about a quarter inch, same as on the X220. the only battery that stays within the 3-dimentional footprint is the 4-cell.

Hi, I just purchased a new 6-cell battery (44+) for my X230. When I install it and restart, I get the message "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge." After starting Windows I can see that the battery is in fact not charging.  I tried to make sure to buy a 44+ battery that I was told was compatible with the X230. Any ideas what went wrong here? Thanks,Will

Answer:44+ battery not working with X230

Good day and welcome to the community.

If I might ask, did you get the battery from Lenovo or from a 3rd-party seller claiming "44+ compatible"? Also, if you see it printed, what is the P/N on the battery? There are usually two, prefaced with: FRU P/N and ASM P/N.

Hi, I own a Lenovo X230 with an I5 3320. I noticed that the CPU stays at 1,2 ghz when I remove the Battery and the Charger (default 65 Watt)  is connected. This i a kind of annoying because I normaly remove the battery my I use a Laptop in my at home. But with just 1,2 ghz the Laptop is kind of slow so the battery has to remain in the Laptop.I set every energy option to maximum performance but the CPU only uses a multiplikator of 12.I also took a picture of the problem:[URL=http://www.imagebanana.com/view/boihv3vt/lenovoproblem.png][IMG]http://img6.imagebanana.com/img/boih...

Answer:X230 oly 1,2 GHZ when Battery removed

hi.

the cpu running at 1.2ghz when running without an installed battery has been part of the design for a long time. my 1.8ghz A31p does that and pretty much every ThinkPad i've had since has done the same thing. at least of those i've tested. i don't think there is any way to change this behavior short of hacking bios/ec code. highly not advised.

so, if you don't want the speed cap, leave the battery in. if you're trying to extend the life of the battery by removing it, set recharge thresholds in Power Manager accordingly instead. i set mine to not begin charging until the battery drops below 40% and then to recharge fully.

hth a bit.

Does anyone know the life of each battery for the X230?  It doesnt seem to say.  I have the core i5 model 2.5Ghz bought close to a year ago I guess but says it's Ivy Bridge with 4GB ram and 128GB SSD.  I bought it with the 4 cell battery because I didn't want it sticking out the back at all which I didn't realize the 6 cell didn't do either.  I find the battery life is awful maybe 2 hours or so but I'm not entirely sure.  Thinking of getting either the 6 cell or the 9 cell and just haivng the larger one but just curious if anyone knows what the actual rated life should be?  I always use my system with the brightness on maybe level 1 or 2 so very dim as it hurts my eyes.  Thanks!

Answer:How long does each X230 battery last?

I have an X230 with a 6-cell battery. It adds about 1/4" to the bottom and does not stick out. When I was using it, I could run it and work on it for about 5 hours before it was in any danger of running out (about 1 hour left). I kept the brightness on battery about 13 out of 15 and the brightness on AC at 15. I was not concerned about brightness because the LED display has good durability. .... JDH

I got my new X230 back in June with Windows 8 Pro 64 and a 9-cell battery. About a month ago, I noticed that when the battery reaches ~ 40%, its power immediately drops down to 6%. The condition is registered as 'good'. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced a similar problem. As the power manager doesn't work on Win 8, I don't have a way to reset the battery. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards K.

You should try recalibrating the battery if you have windows 7 OS installed. Also did you get the battery from Lenovo? If you did try to call them and get it exchanged. Your battery has been sitting on the shelve for over 1.5 years.

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? Thanks a lot for your help. Greets from Germany enweh

I am leaning towards buying a Lenovo thinkpad x230 with 6 cell main battery as well as a 44++ 9 cell battery and a 19+ six cell battery configuration (6 +9+6 cell battery configuration). My queries are1. Can all three of the batteries work in conjunction without any issues?2. Do i need to charge the batteries separately or they all get charged simultaneously while i plug a charger in the laptop?3. Is there any other battery option ( like a 9 cell main plus a 44++ 9 cell and a 19+ 6 cell, i.e. 9+9+6 cells) that can work ?

I've noticed over the past few weeks that my 9-cell (Sanyo) doesn't seem to be lasting as long as it did in the past.  I went into the Power Manager (mine is in German and called "Energie-Manager", so please excuse any mistakes I make in translating into English) and checked the maximum capacity - it was only 79Wh. Apparent "intended" capacity was only at 86Wh, although it clearly says 94Wh on the battery. I went ahead and did a recalibration and that brought the maximum potential charge up to 80Wh, but still well off the 94Wh mark. There are also less than 50 cycles on the battery at this point in time.  My question then is this: should I call Lenovo and have them replace this battery? It's less than a year old (September 2012 was purchase date) and I have the 3-year bring-in warranty (or they come to me - in German it's called "Vorort"), so they're required to service any issue in 24 hours or less. I would certainly love to get some feedback on this. I full intend on calling tomorrow morning once they open, but I'm wondering what my expectations should be here - if they're supposed to replace it, then I can at least recognize when they're giving me the run-around. If my chances are slim, then OK, but it would be nice to know that before I call.  Thanks for any help - this forum is an excellent resource, been lurking ever since I had the laptop but never created an account until now. Guess that's how it usually is, huh?

Answer:X230 9-cell battery - should I have it replaced?

Sanyo ? Yes, try to replace it by battery made by different vendor (Panasonic is the best one) as soon as possible. Sanyo notebook batteries are known for low quality (on the other hand their AA NiMH Eneloops are extremely good btw). I am not sure whether the battery is covered by 3 yrs warranty.

It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."   It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover? Please help!!

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

Well, a few things. 1.  The warranty you mention sounds like it is for the system.  The system and battery typically have different warranty terms.  Unless of course you did order an additional battery warranty. 2.  However, the base battery warranty is one year, so if you contact them they should get you a replacement since you are only a few months into ownership. Good luck!

I have two x230s, identical except for the keyboard backlight and screen. one of them gets the expected amount of battery life, the other about half that. this is true when I swap batteries between them, so it's not a bad-battery issue. I noticed that the weak computer is running a process in the background called vcamsvc.exe. when I kill the process, battery life returns to normal. apparently vcamsvc.exe starts on bootup. anyone know what this is and how to disable it? one website calls it the "ThinkVantage Virtual Camera Controller" but I have no idea what that means.

Hey guys, I just got my x230 with a 44++ 9 cell battery. I am wondering what is the average battery duration for a 9 cell? Right now, I am getting about 7-8 (it fluctuates) hours of battery @ max battery life setting. IPS screen brightness is at 6. There is skype, word, chrome, and FF idling in the background. The reason I am making thread is because I read online reviews where 9 cell batteries were getting around 10+ hours of battery life. I just need a confirmation if other ppl with 9 cells are getting the time I am getting right now. If not, what setting did they use?  My laptop:i5 3230M320 GB of HDDIPS screen (not sure if this makes a power difference) Thanks in advance!

I've bought the Lenovo X230 with the broken battery (the PM showes 68% charging and no more, asks for the battery replacement). I've tried 3 different good-working batteries from X220 which were supposed to work on X230, but they don't. When starting the laptop with that battery, it stops with the information:" The battery installesd is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system. Press the ESC to continue".  And after pressing the ESC key, it starts to work, but the PM still writes that the battery is not correct and it doesn't charge. What could it be?

Answer:Lenovo x230 battery problem

Hi,x230 doesn't support the batteries of old 29 series (x220 did). Only hw protected batteries 44 series are being supported by x230 (and 19+ series, external).Batteries of 29 series can only be discharged in x230.Try to perform the original (x230's) battery reset using Lenovo power manager feature.

On my old x201 the battery stretch function activated automatically whenever the battery life went under i.e. 15%, But on my x230 there is only the option to activate it manually from the Power manager (ver  6.65.2).Is there any way with Lenovo's thinkvantage software to make this automatic again?

Hi, I recently bought a battery off ebay shipped from China. and in the first instance this appeared to be genuine but I decided to investigate a bit. A few oddities were that the Lenovo brand was erased off with a marker. The seller claimed that this was to avoid custom's charges, now I don't know enough about customs charges to be able to call him on that. Secondly, there were some obvious spelling mistakes on the labels of the battery and I presume genuine batteries would never have these. The seller still persists so I decided to take it a step further and investigate the FRU P/N and the barcode number. Both of these do not match what is labelled on the battery. Can I now be reasonably sure that it is indeed a fake battery? Thanks.

Answer:x230 counterfeit battery detection

Welcome to the forum!

It does sound like a fake.

With that said, your X230 will detect a fake battery through Power Manager, notify you of it, and refuse to charge it. That would be the easiest way to confirm the autheniticity one way or another.

Good luck.

I have a 10 month old X230 with a 6 cell 44+ battery. I am finding that it seems to drain quite quickly - more so than when it was new. I am getting about 2.5 hours of use - and am also noticing that when in sleep mode, it seems to drain quite a bit. Overnight last night it went from a full charge - to 91% just while on sleep - nothing was used or running. I am running Win 7 Home Premium, have a USB (not Bluetooth) mouse attached that I turn off before sleep, screen brightness on around 8. Any suggestions on what to check or change woud be appreciated. Thanks!LH

Answer:X230 Battery drains quickly

1. If you have installed Lenovo Power Manager application launch it and under the Battery tab look at the Cycle Count parameter.2. Which threshold parameters for battery charge are defined in the Power Manager? 3. Open command line window, type in the following string:powercfg -devicequery wake_armedLet us know about results.

Hello Lenovo Community, I'm back to ThinkPad - I previously owned TP R31 and yesterday I received brand new TP X230. Specs are as follows: I5-3380M (up to 3,6 ghz), 8gb RAM (2x4), 500 GB 7200 HDD, standard TN display (I'm fine wit it). Still going to get a decend SDD and put the HDD in some external case (I'm not giving up my 3G modem). The X230 was shipped with substandard 4 cell (44) battery. The problem is that on a full charge (I've calibrated the battery) I only get about 2 hours of normal web browsing (i set display to "3" and CPU performance to "low"). I wanted to ask if this is normal with this battery (it's obviously less than Lenovo declares), or something is wrong here? Nontheless, I love my new machine. Thank you for your answers,Tom

Answer:X230 - 4 cell battery issue

that sounds low. 4 cells in your usage scenario should give around 3 to 4 hrs of battery life. what is the full and design charge of your battery as reported by thinkvantage power manager.

Upon loading the desktop, I get this error message.  I Googled this issue and found that other people have had similar problems. Some of the solutions I tried (and did not work) are: Reinstalling Lenovo Power ManagerUninstalling  Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method BatteryRemoving the battery and putting it back in  As it stands, the battery menu says "Plugged in, not charging" and is stuck at 84%.  If anyone could give me other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming it's not a hardware issue as the battery is brand new and was working just fine a few days ago.

Answer:Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Not sure if there's any known quirks with that combination of hardware and software, but it sounds to me like the battery had a spontaneous failure, in which case you should just get it replaced under warranty.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Hi,The Power Manager settings as well as the battery parameters are stored in the registry. So if PM could be removed at all (!) those parameters should be reset. But I hope it's not a single solution.I'm not sure will it help or no, but you might perform the following steps:- PM menu (mouse right click on the battery icon), "Remove and Replace Battery" item,- battery reset. Also let me give you another advice: change the battery charge thresholds for its healthy and lifespan, do not charge it fully.

I am looking to purchase the 19+ slice battery for my X230. But the Part Numbers cause me confusion when i try to order them. I see two part numbers  0C13380 / 0A36280 in some listings for the same battery . Though the lenovo site itself as of now lists the latter (0A36280) . A lot of external websites seem to display the former part no (0C13380) for this battery model.  I tried to speak to a lenovo rep, he said they both had similar features, but couldnt give me any further details or feature comparision I was wondering if anyone here could tell if there was difference between the two and guide me to the latest and the appropriate one for my X230 (with the following config i5-3320, 4gb RAM , 320 gb hdd, IPS screen) Thank you

Dear, I found some strange issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad X230 on Windows 10. When i've attached the battery, I try to shutdown, hibernate and sleep the labtop but the laptop didnt shutdown or hibernate properly. The screen is turn off, the WIFI symbol still bright, the power button light still blink and the fan still spining. i need to force shutdown by pressing the power button for 10 sec to turn everything off. On the other hand, if i take the battery off, pluged the power cord, everything will work fine. I can shutdown, hibernate and sleep. I used Lenovo Service Bridge to scan and install the lastest version of every driver. I also flashed the BIOS to lastest version. Unfotunately, the problem still persists.

I got a ThinkPad x230 i5-3360M about 6 months ago. I run Linux Mint Mate Maya (13), and this is hands-down the best laptop I have ever had the pleasure to use. Lately, however, the battery life has been deteriorating noticably. The 6-cell battery now lasts only about 3 hours on a charge, and indeed upower -d reports that battery capacity is down to 45.5301% Is this a hardware defect, a Linux issue, something about the way I'm using it, or what? I thought I would ask here before calling Lenovo -- I have 3.5 years of full protection left on the warranty, but something isn't right, and maybe there is a simple fix. Thanks.

Answer:Battery capacity deteriorating fast on x230

I logged into Windows and checked the "Power Manager" app. It reports the battery condition as "poor" with 45% capacity (exactly what the Linux tool reports) but only projects 2 hours of life on a fresh charge. Power Manager also reports that the battery was manufactured just one month before I started using it last summer, and that there have been 66 charge cycles to date. Unless anyone has any suggestions, I guess I will be callng for warranty service.

I have an X230 Thinkpad which is about 10 months old. I am getting a new batter (6 cell) as the one it came with isn't giving me good performance - usually only lasts about 2 hours of use. I have the original battery set to "automatically optimize for battery lifespan" in Power Manager. This is my typical use: 1. Charge battery to 100%. Unplug from AC power.2. Use laptop on battery until it is anywhere from 10% to 20% - then plug in and recharge to 100%. Several cycles in a day if heavy use.3. Sometimes the charge cycle is overnight, so it stays plugged in after reaching 100% for several hours - never more than about 8 if it is truly overnight.4. I put it to sleep manually (FnF4) between active sessions. Is there something I can do differently to ensure that the battery both performs well and also lasts more than the 10 months this one has. I never run it consistently on AC power - though I could some of the time. When it was new, I got many more hours on a charge - now it is needing several charges in a day. I have read different things that say never charge it to 100% - but is a setting of 99% as the stopping point a good alternative? I had set it for a manual threshold for a time - but it needed a charge more frequently when set at soemthing like a 90%-30% type of charging scheme. Also - I have 4 GB RAM, run Win 7 Home Premium, and use a USB mouse and a WiFi hotspot at home if those have any effect. Thanks so much! Any ideas appreciated!Lily

Hi all, Just got me brand new Lenovo X230 with 6cell battery (standard for that model I believe), and when I go to the Power Manager under battery it says Main Battery: Condition Poor and it has red icon of the battery next to it. It's like that from the beginng so from the 0 cycle count. The battery seems to be brand new (Manufacture date - 2013-01-03). What could be the problem? It also says from new - "Your battery can store 64% of its original full charge capacity" Thank you for all help in advance. Regards, Radek

Dear Lenovo & Community Members, I've recently received my X230 (model no.: 2320-24B), and discovered an issue related to the CPU performance of X230 on AC power. To make the long story short, my X230 is not running at full performance on AC power with battery detached. Accordingly, the X230 was shipped with setting at "Maximum Performance" under "Intel Speed Step" in BIOS by default on AC power. Full Story: My notebook is X230 (model 2320-24B) which comes with Ivy Bridge i7-3520M. I have a habit to detach the battery when it was fully charged, as I want to reduce the battery aging and my job does not always require me to work on the go. And by accident, I've discovered that X230 performs differently on AC power with and without battery. To be more precise, when my X230 runs on AC power with battery detached, it runs as slow as my Sandy Bridge i3-2100 desktop, which sounds very weird to me for a notebook costing me more than $1000. Accordingly, I've benchmarked my X230 and here are the results, both with BIOS setting to "Maximum Performance" under AC Power:AC power, without battery - WEI CPU Score: 4.9, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~1,900kb/s, CPU @ 1.189Ghz on loadAC power, with battery - WEI CPU Score: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on loadOn battery power - WEI CPU: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on load Based on my tests, I?ve found that X230 is only performing at maximum performance when attached with its ... Answer:X230 CPU performance issue on AC power without battery

Hi slkong, welcome to the forum,

allow me to assume that you have the 65W AC power supply.  If this is the case in order to reach full CPU performance you do need to have the battery attached, there are several threads on this within the boards concerning different systems and also this Knowledgebase article.

Hope this explains the situation for you.

Hi, my x230 shuts down instantly when the battery is at 25-30% (around 10Wh).I tried performing battery gauge reset with no improvements, but I have the suspect that it doesn't run the full charge-discharge-charge cycle since it shuts down (I didn't attend the full cycle so I'm not sure).I had a wrong "full charge capacity" reading in power manager which I solved switching charge mode in Battery Maintenance from "always full charge" to "optimize for battery health".The battery firmware update tool is not suggesting an update, so I'm apparently out of options.  Thanks in advance for any help

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hi everyone, hope you can help me out with this issue I am having.  I bought a new X230 a couple weeks ago along with the additional 6 cell slice battery. However, I have been having a problem.  When the slice battery runs out the system won't go into sleep; instead when I close the lid on the laptop it turns off completely and when I reboot it all of the programs / app have closed.  It's like the system has a hard power off when that happens. When I reboot, I get this message that says: "Battery 2: There is an error."  Clicking on the replacement options links goes to a 404 page.  (Thanks Lenovo!)  http://screencast.com/t/LLlmqaQ1NJ5k Looking in the Lenovo Solution Center in these cases the secondary battery is listed as "not available".  http://screencast.com/t/PlYdomKZU Anything I should try or should I be getting a new battery from Lenovo?  Is this a common problem?

Answer:Lenovo X230 Slice battery error and problems

Hey there!

Can you tell us what model (machine type) of X230 do you have and what operating system it is running? The machine type can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit. This will help me assit you with the errors you are recieving.

Also, have you checked your power manager settings? It is possible to have a PM setting to turn the laptop off when the lid is closed and/or when the slice battery dies.

When I charge my battery, sometimes the laptop automatically sleeps muitiple times and my Fn+F4 stop working at the same time. I have a 9 cell battery that used to run between 8 to 10 hours, now it only last less than 6 hours. I just did a battery guage reset and it told me the battery can maintain 23% of original fully charge capacity and I only have this laptop a little over one year. My system suddenly can't shut down at all unless I removed the battery. It always restarts no matter what method I used. I have researched a few articles and changed a few setting in my laptop, None of them works.
