THINKPAD X1 CARBON 20A7 CANNOT ACTIVATE TO VERIZON WIRELESS WITH GOBI 5000 CARD UNDER WINDOWS 8.1

Question: THINKPAD X1 CARBON 20A7 CANNOT ACTIVATE TO VERIZON WIRELESS WITH GOBI 5000 CARD UNDER WINDOWS 8.1

Hi all, I have problem with activating Verizon boardband service on my X1 laptop after it is back from the warranty service (bad mother board, my laptop has been working find with Verizon broadband service for 9 months before the motherboard died). I made the research and found this http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht082428 This is the same issue happened on the same model of my laptop, same model of my built-in air card. The only difference is it was the windows 7 and mine is windows 8.1 Unfortunately, the solution on that article does not work for my case. I contacted Lenovo and wait for the level 2 tech support to contact back to me my case number is 302MRJ8. If anyone has any input please feel free to join in. ThanksSteve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... Has anyone been succesfull in getting this to work, I've got 15 laptops not one of which is working with the Gobi 5000 and Verizon.   If you have been succesful are you using Verizon Access Manager or Lenovo Access Connections?  How did you go about getting it to connect.  The furthest I've got with all my monkeying around is for Lenovo Access Connections to show Verizon but not be able to connect. Verizon's site mentions nothing of the Gobi 5000 and Lenovo's drivers dont' work,  downloading the Sierra drivers from Sierra allows the device to show in Access Connections but is still not usable.

Has anyone got this card successfully working with Verizon?? SIM is in place and ready for activation with Verizon. When I try to use the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation tool the only options listed are ATT and Other. The other option just says to call your provider. This tool worked for us previously with the x230 and there was always a Verizon activation option. Any help much appreciated!

Answer:Verizon Activation x240 Gobi 5000 EM7355

Lenovo is aware of this issue but they don't have a solution yet. We have been dealing with this problem FOR MONTHS with both Verizon and Lenovo pointing fingers at each other. Until Lenovo fixes the problem, I would advise anyone who intends to use the Gobi 5000 card with Verizon to stay away. There are obviously problems that were not caught in QA that have lingered where our support requests were swept under the rug not acknowledging any problems. For the price you pay for these laptops, you would expect them to be working out of the gate. The X240, T440s/T440 and any laptops that use the Gobi 5000 are not ready for businesses who use Verizon and have a mobile workforce. You're better off slamming your head against the wall rather than wait for Lenovo to fix the problem.

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon (type 20A7): which Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is compatible

Hello and welcome,

You've run into the BIOS whitelist.  A card must be a supported model (7260) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (04W3844 or 04X6007).  A "vanilla" 7260 won't pass the whitelist check and you'll get the 1802 error.

This is a question for users of the X1 Carbon 20A7 only. Has anyone been notified by the "Get Windows 10" app that their X1 20A7 is ready for upgrade to Windows 10? My X1 20A7 has been registered for at least two months with microsoft and it is still not ready.  I can alternatively download and upgrade manually but I am curious if anyone else has already upgraded via the Get Windows 10 app on a 20A7.  Thanks! -sul.

I've noticed a couple other threads regarding the GOBI 5000 WWAN card on 2014 X1 Carbon machines, so I know I'm not the only one having issues ... I have two new X1s (both 20A7), one with a Verizon GOBI 5000 and another with an AT&T GOBI 5000. The Verizon card installs fine and works, no issues there. The AT&T card has alternately: not shown up at all in Device Manager, shown up as an "unknown" object, and now after uninstalling the driver, removing the card, rebooting, re-installing the card, etc., the driver package installs successfully, but the card shows up under ports as COM4. The description is correct - system sees it as a "Sierra Wireless EM7355 ...". Naturally, Mobile Broadband Activation doesn't see the card and so won't run. In another thread someone suggested they were able to get hold of an older driver package that successfully installed; any hope of getting a link? Or better yet, an updated current driver?

Hi, I have a thinkpad X1 carbon 2014 (20A7) and its not playing audio over HDMI, I have tried the following: 1. Uninstall and reinstall display and audio drivers, this did not help. (although after i uninstall the display drivers i do get the option to play audio over HDMI in windows playback dialog box, otherwise i dont get any option for it to play audio over HDMI in that section) (also note i propperly uninstalled my display drivers using DDU, still no help). i also used an older version of the display divers, it did not help. 2. I used 2 HDMI cables and 2 TVs, still nothing. 3. you may think my laptop is faulty at this point but no, i booted into ubuntu and it worked fine without any issue, flawless audio playback without a hitch. FAQ:Q: is it just the audio or the video is not working too.A: Just the audio, video is fine. Q: Is your tv being detected by the device manger.A: yes, but as a generic monitor, the tvs name dosent show up.Q: Have you tried turning it off and on again.A: Yes, several times Q: Have you reinstalled windows recently?A: Yes, i reinstalled about 2 weeks ago, before that it worked fine (although it has been a year since i used audio over HDMI)

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hi, During my visit to US in January and February 2014 I purchased the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7). I got back to south Brazil where I live, it worked fine until October 2014. Suddenly the X1 Carbon didn't boot anymore and the backlight keyboard keep flickering. I realized it was a known issue and several customers had the motherboard replaced or even the equipment replaced.  I planned to reach the US customer service in a future visit to the US but I could not travel to the US from that time, so I tryed to reach the Lenovo customer service in Brazil and check with them to pay for the service and parts replacement so I could have my X1 Carbon working again. I called and told the problem, they said it was possible to fix and they would send me a budget proposal in 4 work days. The customer service took about two weeks to get back to me and surprisingly the budget I received was of U$ 3,650.00 which is the cost of a new X1 Carbon in Brazil ( I paid U$ 2,180.00 in the US for the top version). I am very upset with Lenovo, I lost all the confidence I had to the brand. My only hope is that a senior executive of US Lenovo headquarter would take this matter and help me get my machine fixed or replaced, even for a reasonable value as I could not use it since October 2014.I really do not have much hope that this will help, I am sure it would be different if I have had the opoortunity to get back to the US just after the problem arose but it is so sad, I was ve... I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

I installed updates on my X1 a few days ago, including the updated driver (17.12) for the Intel Wireless-N 7260 wireless adaptor. Following this update, my wireless stopped working after the laptop woke from sleep. I would have to reboot to get it to work again. I ended up rolling back to the previous driver (via Device Manager) and this seems to have sorted out the issue. I am currently on 17.0.5.8. Intel's forum has a whole discussion going on this issue with the 7260 adaptor and it seems to be ongoing. Their current suggestion is to upgrade to the latest driver (17.12!), but funnily enough this is what caused the issue for me in the first place. Something else I noticed after running updates is that my Logitech mouse and keyboard with unifying receiver started acting erratically, with the connection seeming to cut out constantly. I was wondering if this was related to the wireless driver issue. So far they have been fine since rolling back the driver. I thought I would post this here in case anyone else had a similar issue.

I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

Answer:Gobi 5000 EM7355 installation

HiPlug the red antenna cable into the jack labeled MAIN on the card, and the blue cable into the jack labeled AUX. Jack labeled GPS is for the active (!) GPS antenna, laptop hasn't it. That jack might have a voltage (depending on the internal settings), so If you'll connect any regular antenna cable, modem will be broken because of short circuit.Let me ask you: is you location Georgia in the reality? Where are you planing to use em7355 and what types of networks?

I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

Will the new AT&T Gobi 5000 work with the T530?  Not that it should matter but the innards include an i7-3520M, 16GB 1600MHz, and a 256GB 840 Pro.  I'd opt for the 5000 rather than the 4000 if I knew it was compatible.  Any advice?

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

Answer:T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... So one of the main reasons I bought the x1 carbon was because I wanted a laptop with 3G built in. I hate messing with mifi or hot spots. All the promotional materials stated this would be Verizon capable and I even confirmed with two Lenovo customer service people that this would be Verizon capable before buying. I just found out today it is not, I know there is a thread addressing the lack of Lenovo broadband, but nobody from Lenovo has addressed the lack of Verizon support. I'm starting to feel like lando calrisian, in that this x1 carbon deal keeps getting worse and worse.  Is there any near term chance of Verizon support, or should I just send it back now and be done with it.

Answer:X1 carbon Verizon support?? Or Verizon wwan??

Will we see a Qualcomm GOBI card that supports Verizon LTE?  What about the Verizon 3G CDMA/EVDO network? I really don't care about the brand and maker as long as it works. I would like an embedded option, so would my wife.  I have spoiled her with the Verizon chip in her T400.  I would like to spoil her again with a X1 Carbon, but we would really like to use the Verizon network for data if possible. Could one of the Lenovo employees clarify what is available today in that regard? Thanks, Thor

Greetings: Status update: I called Lenovo technical support, and  they are having me exchange the brand new (just came in yesterday) unit with a new one.  The exchange process is interesting as you have to place a brand new order, pay for the order, then go through sales and returns to get an RMA, and they only credit back on the original order after the receipt, qa check, and 8 to 10 days later. Hopefully the exchange (new) replacement ThinkPad X200 will not have the same problem. Thank you.

Hi, can anyone give me a definitive answer to this question? I have a SSD drive which Windows reports as being 215GB in size in my X1 Carbon model 20A7. I need to upgrade it but am getting mixed messages from information on this topic in the forums. What's the largest capacity I can have? Is there a list of specific, Lenovo approved products I can/must choose from or can I buy any 2.5" SSD drive from any manufacturer? Thanks

Answer:Max size SSD for X1 Carbon 20A7

Hello and welcome,

Your X1 doesn't support 2.5" drives.  It uses an m.2 SSD in 80mm length IIRC.  Here are some references that should help you track down a compatible drive:

Product PSREF:    http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/158

Base specification:  http://psref.lenovo.com/PSREFUploadFile%5CSys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Carbon%20(2nd%20Gen)/Thin...

Hardware Maintenance Manual (for instructions on replacing the SSD):  Hardware Maintenance Manual

Parts list (for researching specs and compatible drives):  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1...

and https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen2_fru_bom_20150616.pdf

Please double check that I've linked 20A7 info.  It was a bit of an Easter-egg hunt.

Hello I have a Gen 2 X1 Carbon which is attached to the OneLink pro docking station. The docking station has two Eizo CG 243W 24 inch screens attached. Unfortunately, sinve about a month (and about two months out of warranty...), the system sort of freezes after it's been used for a few hours. The freeze looks such that the principal monitor goes black. The system still reacts to mouse movement, but not to keyboard input (ctrl-alt-del). I checked the various windows logs and cannot find anything wrong. I am suning Windows 10 (pre creators update). Anybody have an idea what this could be caused by, any help greatly appreciated! regardsChris

Look in the event log and see if a device is throwing an error.

You already did what I would suuggest, except that I would press the power button a couple of times with the main and coin-cell batteries disconnected and I would wait 15 seconds before plugging them back in.  Other than that, it sounds like a more serious (motherboard) issue.  Some of the 20A7 machines are still under warranty.  Did you check?

Hi, I have installed new win 8 on my T410s and I cant find the driver for the gobi 2000. can you direct me? thanks Doron

Answer:gobi 2000 driver for windows 8 - thinkpad t410s

Hi, doronei

I cannot find any Windows 8 drivers for your system on Lenovo's website. Drivers are sometimes compatible with different versions of operating systems than those listed, so I would try the drivers here and see if it helps. You will likely need the driver for activation of the card and the driver itself, so make sure you get both of them. If it does not help, then you will be able to uninstall it from Device Manager.

Hope it helps,
Adam

We just got in our first of 7 x1 carbons (20a7) and im am trying to prepare our imaging enviornment to handle the new model. We have included ethernet extender (FRU 04X6435) which works fine in windows but when pxe booting i can see the MAC address and it waits for DHCP (the link and activity light on the extender do flash) after a few seconds we get a PXE-E53: no bootfile message and then get dumped back to the boot menu. I can pxe boot other machines off the same ethernet jack at my desk. Other laptops x230, t430s, all no problems.I have  tried UEFI/legacy boot  on both and on legacy only neither change the outcome. Since we are not using a usb adapter (this is the extender cable on the new x1s) i have not touched the usb settings. I have searched aroudn and found the threads of the older x1 carbons that used the usb 2.0 adapters but nothing on this new extender and it seems in those cases people were getting into the pxe environment and then having driver issues. I am not even getting that far. Our pxe enviornment (WDS) is setup to require a press of f12 on the client to actually boot and i never even get prompted for f12. Im really not even sure im getting DHCP right other than any other machine i plug is works fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Eric

The Laptop worked fine with Windows 8, but upgrading to Windows 10 - I got the yellow warning triangle for the Graphics driver. Even I got the yellow triangle in device manager the build in screen works ? but I use the laptop both during travel and my work disk ? so I also use a Lenovo port expander and when it is connected, I have no information on either screens.Using any driver from Lenovo support/download site will give this problem. Only if I manually download Intel Graphics HD driver 10.18.10.4242, does it work. But it only works for a short time, then either Lenovo/Windows/Intel do a automatic driver update and I am back to the non working driver again.

Answer:graphics problem Carbon X1 20A7

Hi bjarnep,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Few of the drivers won?t work after the update of windows 10 but when you roll back to the earlier version it works and the same thing happened with my laptop too but to stop the updates what I did was, I just changed the windows update settings and now my system is working fine with no issues.

You can do this too, roll back to the earlier version in which the graphic driver works through device manager, so once you roll back to the earlier version go to windows update settings and click on advance settings and check the option defer upgrades.

Please let me know whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Prior to this problem the machine was running fine, there were no major updates that I recall, I certainly did not do any firmware updates for example, probably only Windows 10 automatic updates. So when this first happened there was a blue screen. The first few times it started booting windows and blue screened before reaching the login screen - now I can't even get the screen to come on, not even bios, just the following.. When I press the power button the keyboard backlighting and LCD Fn keys appear. The screen does not appear to start. Sometimes the machine stays like this for about a minute then switch off, sometimes it seems to reboot endlessly. When it is rebooting the power button flashes 3 times. I have tried the following with no success:Running on AC and no AC.Charging for a day.Letting the machine sit for at least a week off the charger.Holding the power button for 3, 10, 20, 30 seconds, etc..Pressing the power button multiple times.Pressing the reset button with a paperclip.Pressing the F1, F12, delete keys immediately on powerup, etc..  Any suggestions? I haven't opened it up yet, but I am comfortable doing that.

I apologize if this is buried somewhere on the forum. I searched for hours, really, but could not find anything exactly relating to this. After months of "Upgrade to Windows 10" pop ups I finally did it. On Windows 7 I was able to change my battery capacity to 100% before I left for a business trip then change it back when I returned home. Now I can't find where to do that and it won't charge above 46%. I've tried downloading the Lenovo Power Manager as one post suggested but it doens't have the seperate "Power" menu item as the instructions displayed. I've tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery as another post suggested but that didn't help either.I have this option after upgrading my Ultrabook Yoga 2 to Windows 10. The Enegery Manager remained loaded. I simply want the same control over my battery on my X1 as I have on my Yoga. Can anyone help me?Thanking all of you in advance,Clare

I'm just going to throw this out there, no guarantee that your system has the exact setup as mine or that I am understanding your issue completely: I have a Lenovo Settings app in my Windows menu; within that settings application there is a battery section, at the end of this section is a battery gauge reset. I would start there to recover your battery threshold. Hope this helps.

Well, I got my new X1 Carbon. Dumped Windows 8 and re-installed Windows 7 SP1 from scratch. There is a problem with the Realtek sound drivers. If the volume is above 30 (or so), the sound cuts in and out. The Windows Startup sound never plays right. Play any source and if you turn the volume up, the sound cuts in and out like a bad cell phone call. BUT, uninstall the Realtek sound drivers (6.0.1.7188) and let Windows install its base HD Audio Sound driver and all is good. I also tested the master Realtek drivers R2.73 and still the same problem.  It is like when the digital signal is too strong, whatever converts it to analog gets overloaded and cuts. Has anyone encountered this problem ? I see many other issues with the sound on the new X1...

I have a brand new X1 Carbon, it has Windows 7 Professional installed. I keep getting total freeze-ups, not even ctrl-alt-delete-able. Also often times when I power it up (after regular shut down) it wants to boot in safe mode.  It's only a few weeks old. I've installed Office, Matlab, Adobe, Keil, Chrome, and a couple text editors. Hello,I own 2 Lenovo X1 carbon, a 2nd gen one and a 3rd gen one.both of them, when I plug the HDMI cable to a tv there is no sound on the TV.The sound keeps playing from the laptop. They both say that the Digital Audio (HDMI) is not plugged in.I tried 3 TVs and 2 cables. Nothing helped. All drivers are updated, even Windows 10 is updated. Any suggestions?

Answer:No sound through HDMI(x1 carbon 20A7)

Hi, Had a similar problem too - sound on the TV, but no picture, but the mini display port worked fine using an HDMI adapter. I contacted support and without any hesitation they arranged an engineer visit to replace a board inside the laptop. Everything is fine now. If they do the same for you, you might want to check this post. Reactivating Windows 10 after a repair Cheers

Hello all! I have a 20A7 2nd Gen X1 Carbon,  and for my backplate on the front right corner always clicks when pressure is applied.  I have tightened the screws all the way around and it still does it.  I have completley removed the plate to ensure everything is setting in the housings properly. Am I missing something?  Anyone else had this issue?  Is there a place I can purchase replacement screws and backplate?  Thanks much for any help!

Hi, I've recently done a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. All went well and everything is updated to latest drivers. However when i watch youtube for a couple of minutes the machine crashes with bluescreen and sometimes just graphical artefacts. If I just work normally it stays alive for long periods of time. So I have reason to believe it is connected to the graphics drivers. Is there any known solution for this?

Hi, I have a 2nd gen X1 Carbon (Type 20A7) that I bought about 3 years ago. I bought it configured with a 256GB SSD, but I'm quickly running out of space and would like to upgrade the drive. I have a few questions about this: I believe this generation of the X1 Carbon came with a max SSD size of 256GB, but does the system/motherboard, etc. support larger sizes? Is there a limit? I'm aiming for either 512 GB, or possibly 1 TB.Will the size of a new drive I choose impact speed/performance in any way?Lenovo doesn't seem to sell a 512 GB drive or larger drive for this system. Can I use a non-Lenovo one (i.e. bought from Newegg, Amazon, etc.)? I searched around on the Lenovo forums and it sounds like it's a stanard M.2 drive in the 2nd gen X1 Carbon, so should I be fine as long as I get an M.2 drive?M.2 drives have a few different connector types: B, M, and B+M. Does anyone know which connector type I need to get for the 2nd gen X1 Carbon?I'm planning on cloning my current drive onto the new larger one. What kind of adaptors, etc. would I need to do this? Also, I've never cloned a drive before so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but are there any issues cloning a smaller drive to a larger drive (i.e. the system only recognizing 256GB on the new larger drive)?Any other things I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

Answer:X1 Carbon Gen 2 (Type 20A7) SSD Upgrade

Lenovo lists 512GB drives as available, but there is no motherboard limit.  On that model, you need one that is described as SATA-3 (not NVMe) and size 2280.  Drives have B + M Key.  Not Lenovo drives should work, but I always suggest checking the seller's return policy in case of problems.

This issue has been afecting me for some time, but as the warranty is coming closer to expire I decided to look into it. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (at least that I noticed) my TrackPoint has stopped working. I checked the Lenovo assistant and all drivers are updated. Googled some solutions (like checking the setup screeen) and nothing was effective. The Mouse Control Panel shows the TrackPoint options greyed: http://i.imgur.com/yudv9WE.jpg  Before I go through the annoyance of calling the Lenovo/IBM support, is there any known solution for this? Thanks.

My X1 Carbon was working fine, but one day the sound just stopped working.  I restored my image back to the Windows 8 stock image, and still not sound.  I tried re-installing Windows 7 from scratch, still no sound. I called into Lenovo, as the machine is only 4 months old.   The support rep said that they would do a "courtesy onsite visit exception" since this was my first warranty claim and that a lenovo tech would call me to arrange to have the machine looked at and the part swapped.  Apparently Lenovo only includes depot (ship your computer away) warranty support if you want their factory service. After waiting a week without hearing from anyone, I called back into the helpdesk with my ticket reference number.   The guy i was speaking to this time said that there were no notes on the ticket that i gave him and that the call was closed.  He also said that Lenovo no longer gives the "first time courtesy onsite exception" and that I would have to ship the machine back and be without a computer for 2 weeks! Good job lenovo.  You rock.  My first and last Lenovo.   Dell knows how to "DO" enterprise.  These guys do not.

Answer:X1 Carbon 20A7 No Sound through speakers

In Belgium it took 5 days to pick up my machine, repair it and get it back. But 2 weeks is still reasonable for a repair at the depot. This will require a motherboard swap. It is possible you maybe accidentally bent the connector on the inside. I once had this exact same problem on a different laptop. It happens.

Several of our 2nd gen/20A7 carbons have lost their circular rubber feet on the bottom. All the units are less than a year old but Lenovo has told me that this wouldn't be covered under the warranty. Not a big deal, but I'm having an impossible time finding the feet to buy on my own. They aren't listed on any of Lenovo's part lists for the X1 and I've only seen feet for the X220/230 units on 3rd party sites. I'm hoping someone on the boards here is familiar with the part. Thanks

Answer:Replacement feet for X1 Carbon 2nd gen (20A7)

Lenovo did end up shipping me replacement feet under warranty, which was a very nice surprise. If anyone has a similar issue and runs across this thread, the part number for the replacement rubber feet kit is HT096. As of writing this I wasn't able to find any references to that number other than on the paperwork with the shipment, but it may just be a new PN.

I have a T400 with the built in Qualcomm Gobi card that was originally sold as Verizon only.  I have ATT and didn't want to switch so I was using an external card. I noticed that the latest version of the Lenovo driver said that it added ATT support.  I figured I would give it a shot. It took a lot of installing and uninstalling but I got it to the point where it would see the tower and try to get an IP address.  I had to go into the network properties of the Qualcomm card and enable IPv4 networking to get it to work.Just posting in case this helps someone else!Getting 1.81 Mb/S down and 1.23 Mb/S up with a 161 Ping but I only have a 48% 83dbm signal

Hey Lenovo, I'm writing because I have not been able to solve my Wi-Fi problems. The Intel Wireless AC 7260 is very unstable and does not update properly. I am about 10-15 feet away from my router, which normally is fine, even for my Galaxy Neus 5, but speed drops are detrimental to my usage. Often, it'll fluctuate between 3-5 bars, and occasionally drop connection completely. Here are things I've tried: -Update drivers (I am currently using 16.6.0.8, which allows me to connect. However, when I try to update to 16.10.0.5, it won't actually update, but rather it stays at 16.6.0.8. So that being said, I found a direct update installer as opposed to the Lenovo update software and was able to install it. Not surprisingly, it didn't allow me to connect to my router whatsoever. It would say that the router is not compatible, and I would have to roll-back my driver to 16.6.0.8 in order to gain internet access.)-Change power settings to maximum power.-Unselect allow to turn off wi-fi when low on power.-Installing drivers version 17 and 16.5.-Uninstalling drivers completely, reinstalling.-Restarting the computer.-Already uninstalled Norton-Running Lenovo's system update-Windows update-Firewall exceptions  Additionally, I should mention that I'm 10-15 feet away through a wall. I am positive that it's not a router issue, as I have been using this router for about half a year prior to receiving my Lenovo X1 Carbon. I am using Windows 8.1, 64 bit. Another thing I shoul... With Windows 8.1 and the X1 Carbon 20A7 the startup screen is instantaneous. The function keys are adaptive so the F1 key is not lit. Getting into the Bios was important since the Intel RapidStart was enabled and this would interfere with the Lenovo Power Management and make the X1 not wake from sleep without being plugged into the AC connector. I finally found after lots of asking and looking that holding down the Power Button for ten seconds when the machine is off will make the X1 boot into the BIOS (technically UEFI) screen. Then I was able to disable Intel RapidStart. I could not find this in the manual.

Fingerprint reader was working perfectly fine but I couldn't get it to work with my domain account. After trying some troubleshooting, there was a suggestion to delete the drivers and reinstall it. So I go into device manager and uninstall the fingerprint reader drivers. The problem is now I can't find the fingerprint reader driver! It's not in the lenovo driver page.. I tried Windows drivers update and everything else but still not working. Where do I download the fingerprint drivers???

Hi can someone give advice if this is a screen default and will it need replacing?

The vertical dark band has been visible since purchase date and is always present.
It is 1cm in width and at the center of the screen. It appears darkest at the bottom and gradualy extends to the top of screen. It doesnt flicker (none that I can detect).

Is a known problem with the x1 20A7 touchscreen display?

Any opinions much appreciated.

Cheers, Ili

I have looked through the community and support forums but I am not able to locate a posting on how to replace a keyboard on the Lenovo X1 Carbon Thinkpad Type 20A7 - 002FUS. Does anyone know if there is video or instructional reference material to provide guidance on how to replace the keyboard on an X1 Carbon 20A7 Model Type. In most cases I see reference to replacing the Adaptive Keyboard but my case requires the entire keyboard replacement.  As much as I would like to see instructions, if not available, I'm sure I can figure it out on my own and will post a video or instructions to the community if allowed.

Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd 20A7 touchpad not responding

Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

Z.

Hello,

I'm finding a lot of difficulties in fixing my fingerprint sensor. The day I got my X1 carbon type 20A7 from the support center and the person who reinstalled all my softwares failed to install properly. I am unable to uninstall/install or run the Fingerprint manager pro, the driver is not recognizing my laptop. The following steps were attempted but with no success:1. Activated through Bios2. Further installments at the online support center
3. Updated the device manager4. Attempted the Sign in option (PIN)
5. I restored my sytem as wellPlease advise,
