ThinkPad X1 Carbon 20A7 and WWAN (GOBI 5000) note detected

Question: ThinkPad X1 Carbon 20A7 and WWAN (GOBI 5000) note detected

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.) The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade" would need to be performed by a local shop. I called a local shop and while the guy was nice enough, he laughed outright at the "system board upgrade" idea, and only said, "You have to bring it in so I can look at it." No thoughts on some super-secret BIOS updates, or unlocking some sort of hidden feature to enable the WWAN slot. (Yes, I did make sure it was enabled under the POWER section of the BIOS...) Has ANYBODY else had success with the Gobi 5000 WWAN card and the new X1 Carbon?? Oh, and one other complication I experienced: when I went to Verizon to get the WWAN card activated, they said the IMEI# of the WWAN card was coded in the Verizon system as only being compatible with a mini SIM card. The VZW rep was unable to provide me with a micro SIM card (which the X1 Carbon requires). I may have just had an idiot VZW rep, but no matter how many times he tried to activate a micro SIM (or even a nano SIM), it failed. He could only activate a mini SIM card, so I manually cut the mini down to micro. Assuming I can ever get the laptop to recognize the Gobi 5000 card in the first place, I may eventually have an X1 Carbon with WWAN... What a total waste of time!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, I have problem with activating Verizon boardband service on my X1 laptop after it is back from the warranty service (bad mother board, my laptop has been working find with Verizon broadband service for 9 months before the motherboard died). I made the research and found this http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht082428 This is the same issue happened on the same model of my laptop, same model of my built-in air card. The only difference is it was the windows 7 and mine is windows 8.1 Unfortunately, the solution on that article does not work for my case. I contacted Lenovo and wait for the level 2 tech support to contact back to me my case number is 302MRJ8. If anyone has any input please feel free to join in. ThanksSteve

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

Answer:T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

Will the new AT&T Gobi 5000 work with the T530?  Not that it should matter but the innards include an i7-3520M, 16GB 1600MHz, and a 256GB 840 Pro.  I'd opt for the 5000 rather than the 4000 if I knew it was compatible.  Any advice?

I've noticed a couple other threads regarding the GOBI 5000 WWAN card on 2014 X1 Carbon machines, so I know I'm not the only one having issues ... I have two new X1s (both 20A7), one with a Verizon GOBI 5000 and another with an AT&T GOBI 5000. The Verizon card installs fine and works, no issues there. The AT&T card has alternately: not shown up at all in Device Manager, shown up as an "unknown" object, and now after uninstalling the driver, removing the card, rebooting, re-installing the card, etc., the driver package installs successfully, but the card shows up under ports as COM4. The description is correct - system sees it as a "Sierra Wireless EM7355 ...". Naturally, Mobile Broadband Activation doesn't see the card and so won't run. In another thread someone suggested they were able to get hold of an older driver package that successfully installed; any hope of getting a link? Or better yet, an updated current driver?

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

My X1 20A7 has been registered for at least two months with microsoft and it is still not ready.  I can alternatively download and upgrade manually but I am curious if anyone else has already upgraded via the Get Windows 10 app on a 20A7.  Thanks! -sul.

Hi, During my visit to US in January and February 2014 I purchased the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7). I got back to south Brazil where I live, it worked fine until October 2014. Suddenly the X1 Carbon didn't boot anymore and the backlight keyboard keep flickering. I realized it was a known issue and several customers had the motherboard replaced or even the equipment replaced.  I planned to reach the US customer service in a future visit to the US but I could not travel to the US from that time, so I tryed to reach the Lenovo customer service in Brazil and check with them to pay for the service and parts replacement so I could have my X1 Carbon working again. I called and told the problem, they said it was possible to fix and they would send me a budget proposal in 4 work days. The customer service took about two weeks to get back to me and surprisingly the budget I received was of U$ 3,650.00 which is the cost of a new X1 Carbon in Brazil ( I paid U$ 2,180.00 in the US for the top version). I am very upset with Lenovo, I lost all the confidence I had to the brand. My only hope is that a senior executive of US Lenovo headquarter would take this matter and help me get my machine fixed or replaced, even for a reasonable value as I could not use it since October 2014.I really do not have much hope that this will help, I am sure it would be different if I have had the opoortunity to get back to the US just after the problem arose but it is so sad, I was ve... I used 2 HDMI cables and 2 TVs, still nothing. 3. you may think my laptop is faulty at this point but no, i booted into ubuntu and it worked fine without any issue, flawless audio playback without a hitch. FAQ:Q: is it just the audio or the video is not working too.A: Just the audio, video is fine. Q: Is your tv being detected by the device manger.A: yes, but as a generic monitor, the tvs name dosent show up.Q: Have you tried turning it off and on again.A: Yes, several times Q: Have you reinstalled windows recently?A: Yes, i reinstalled about 2 weeks ago, before that it worked fine (although it has been a year since i used audio over HDMI)

Hi,  I'm looking for a teardown guide for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon SecondGen, but i can't really find anything good. Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon (type 20A7): which Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is compatible

Hello and welcome,

You've run into the BIOS whitelist.  A card must be a supported model (7260) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (04W3844 or 04X6007).  A "vanilla" 7260 won't pass the whitelist check and you'll get the 1802 error.

HiIf you'e planning to use em7355 in the Italy LTE networks, that card doesn't support them and frequency bands they work in. It's, mainly, for the North America networks, supports CDMA/EV-DO networks and the part of UMTS/HSPA+ (3g) European bands only.Ericsson n5321 is a 3g card (DL speed up to 21 Mbps), doesn't support LTE capabilities. So, if you want LTE for x1c gen2, you have to get another card, Sierra em7345 with Lenovo p/n (FRU).

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon WWAN Upgrade Question

Hi, VMarcoUnfortunately Gobi 3000 card you have isn't compatible with X1C Gen 2:- mechanically as it is in the mini pci-e formfactor vs new m.2 formfactor (formerly NGFF) new X1C supports;- logically as your card isn't approved by Lenovo to use in new X1C, it isn't whitelisted for that so as result laptop with that card will be blocked. There are several wwan options for X1C Gen 2 depend of the carrier you'll work with and the speed of wwan access you need:1. Ericsson N5321, HSPA+ 21Mbps:, FRU 04W38422. Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355), LTE/EVDO/HSPA+, FRU 04W38012a. the same as item #2., with SIM sku, FRU 04X60383. Sierra Wireless em7345, LTE/HSPA+, FRU 04X6014IMHO the best choice is item #3:- supports both networks class 3g and LTE- supports frequency bands and network carriers almost worldwide, European as well as US (LTE Verizon, AT&T, Sprint)em7345 supports win8/8.1 natively w/o 3rd drivers. For win7 new drivers should be published soon officially. The only lack  there isn't a soluton for card activation within Verizon network yet. Lenovo and Verizon know about that and work for the solution.

Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

Has anyone been succesfull in getting this to work, I've got 15 laptops not one of which is working with the Gobi 5000 and Verizon.   If you have been succesful are you using Verizon Access Manager or Lenovo Access Connections?  How did you go about getting it to connect.  The furthest I've got with all my monkeying around is for Lenovo Access Connections to show Verizon but not be able to connect. Verizon's site mentions nothing of the Gobi 5000 and Lenovo's drivers dont' work,  downloading the Sierra drivers from Sierra allows the device to show in Access Connections but is still not usable.

Anyone know how I can get the verizon gobi 5000 to work with my T431s on windows 7.  For some reason there is no driver for the gobi 5000 that I can find and the lenovo mobile broadband activiation software only supports AT&T.   I'm at a loss. Waited 2 months to get the gobi 5000 only to realize that the model it was built for (T431s) is not currently compatible. Would appreciate any help!

Answer:Gobi 5000 EM7355 installation

HiPlug the red antenna cable into the jack labeled MAIN on the card, and the blue cable into the jack labeled AUX. Jack labeled GPS is for the active (!) GPS antenna, laptop hasn't it. That jack might have a voltage (depending on the internal settings), so If you'll connect any regular antenna cable, modem will be broken because of short circuit.Let me ask you: is you location Georgia in the reality? Where are you planing to use em7355 and what types of networks?

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

Has anyone got this card successfully working with Verizon?? SIM is in place and ready for activation with Verizon. When I try to use the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation tool the only options listed are ATT and Other. The other option just says to call your provider. This tool worked for us previously with the x230 and there was always a Verizon activation option. Any help much appreciated!

Answer:Verizon Activation x240 Gobi 5000 EM7355

Lenovo is aware of this issue but they don't have a solution yet. We have been dealing with this problem FOR MONTHS with both Verizon and Lenovo pointing fingers at each other. Until Lenovo fixes the problem, I would advise anyone who intends to use the Gobi 5000 card with Verizon to stay away. There are obviously problems that were not caught in QA that have lingered where our support requests were swept under the rug not acknowledging any problems. For the price you pay for these laptops, you would expect them to be working out of the gate. The X240, T440s/T440 and any laptops that use the Gobi 5000 are not ready for businesses who use Verizon and have a mobile workforce. You're better off slamming your head against the wall rather than wait for Lenovo to fix the problem.

Hi, I have a X201 laptop from US and I would like to use it in Singapore with a valid SIM card from M1.Although I can connect to internet using mobile broadband successfully, but GPS does not seem to work well with it.I have updated Lenovo GPS to latest 2.60, but I do not see a XTRA (A-GPS) in GPS mode.I understand that XTRA needs WWAN connectivity, though I have WWAN working but it's still indicated as "not activated" for Lenovo software. Is there anyway I can change (e.g. registry setting) to "activate" mobile broadband so I can use XTRA in Lenovo GPS?

I have a W510 with the Gobi WWAN chipset running x64 Win7 Enterprise.  Once I install the Gobi WWAN driver, the system has a BSOD within 10 seconds of the install wrapping up.  After a reboot, if I switch off the wireless, I am OK, but once I switch it back on, I will BSOD within a minute.  I am running the latest BIOS as of today.  I am running the latest Gobi drive from the Lenovo site (1.1.90/2.0.6.9).  Any help would be appreciated.

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Answer:X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesn´t work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Hello I have a Gen 2 X1 Carbon which is attached to the OneLink pro docking station. The docking station has two Eizo CG 243W 24 inch screens attached. Unfortunately, sinve about a month (and about two months out of warranty...), the system sort of freezes after it's been used for a few hours. The freeze looks such that the principal monitor goes black. The system still reacts to mouse movement, but not to keyboard input (ctrl-alt-del). I checked the various windows logs and cannot find anything wrong. I am suning Windows 10 (pre creators update). Anybody have an idea what this could be caused by, any help greatly appreciated! regardsChris

Answer:Max size SSD for X1 Carbon 20A7

Hello and welcome,

Your X1 doesn't support 2.5" drives.  It uses an m.2 SSD in 80mm length IIRC.  Here are some references that should help you track down a compatible drive:

Product PSREF:    http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/158

Base specification:  http://psref.lenovo.com/PSREFUploadFile%5CSys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Carbon%20(2nd%20Gen)/Thin...

Parts list (for researching specs and compatible drives):  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1...

and https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen2_fru_bom_20150616.pdf

Please double check that I've linked 20A7 info.  It was a bit of an Easter-egg hunt.

You already did what I would suuggest, except that I would press the power button a couple of times with the main and coin-cell batteries disconnected and I would wait 15 seconds before plugging them back in.  Other than that, it sounds like a more serious (motherboard) issue.  Some of the 20A7 machines are still under warranty.  Did you check?

The WWAN (Gobi 2000 card) in my X100e won't connect if the card stays enabled (FN-F5) during a system boot or resume from standby.  If I leave it disabled during a reboot or standby/resume and enable it afterwards, everything seems to work fine. I'm using HSPA and I'm in an area with good signal.  The signal strength fades in/out every few seconds according to the Windows Broadband icon when it isn't working.  The signal stays solid and there are no issues if I boot the system with the card disabled initially. I'm running the latest bios (1.23) and the ThinkVantage tools have updated all the software on Windows 7 Professional.  I've loaded the BIOS defaults a few times now and Lenovo wants the unit back to replace the Gobi 2000 card. The X100e is a recent purchase from Lenovo Canada and it was ordered with the Gobi 2000 card.  Access Connections (AC) wants me to activate on Verizon (not available in Canada), but it does seem to work with a HSPA sim from a Canadian carrier... but AC always prompts to tell me that I'm roaming.  I'd like to get that fixed too. Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions?  I think it's a s/w problem but I'll ship it back to Lenovo as per their tech support. Thanks...

Answer:X100e WWAN Gobi 2000 Fails if Enabled During Boot/Resume

The X100e is now headed back to Lenovo for EasyServ warranty repair. An identical unit we bought does not exhibit this behavior at all so I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware problem.  The Lenovo phone tech's recommendation to send it in to get the Gobi 2000 card replaced appears to be correct.

My X1 Carbon was working fine, but one day the sound just stopped working.  I restored my image back to the Windows 8 stock image, and still not sound.  I tried re-installing Windows 7 from scratch, still no sound. I called into Lenovo, as the machine is only 4 months old.   The support rep said that they would do a "courtesy onsite visit exception" since this was my first warranty claim and that a lenovo tech would call me to arrange to have the machine looked at and the part swapped.  Apparently Lenovo only includes depot (ship your computer away) warranty support if you want their factory service. After waiting a week without hearing from anyone, I called back into the helpdesk with my ticket reference number.   The guy i was speaking to this time said that there were no notes on the ticket that i gave him and that the call was closed.  He also said that Lenovo no longer gives the "first time courtesy onsite exception" and that I would have to ship the machine back and be without a computer for 2 weeks! Good job lenovo.  You rock.  My first and last Lenovo.   Dell knows how to "DO" enterprise.  These guys do not.

Answer:X1 Carbon 20A7 No Sound through speakers

In Belgium it took 5 days to pick up my machine, repair it and get it back. But 2 weeks is still reasonable for a repair at the depot. This will require a motherboard swap. It is possible you maybe accidentally bent the connector on the inside. I once had this exact same problem on a different laptop. It happens.

Several of our 2nd gen/20A7 carbons have lost their circular rubber feet on the bottom. All the units are less than a year old but Lenovo has told me that this wouldn't be covered under the warranty. Not a big deal, but I'm having an impossible time finding the feet to buy on my own. They aren't listed on any of Lenovo's part lists for the X1 and I've only seen feet for the X220/230 units on 3rd party sites. I'm hoping someone on the boards here is familiar with the part. Thanks

The Laptop worked fine with Windows 8, but upgrading to Windows 10 - I got the yellow warning triangle for the Graphics driver. Even I got the yellow triangle in device manager the build in screen works ? but I use the laptop both during travel and my work disk ? so I also use a Lenovo port expander and when it is connected, I have no information on either screens.Using any driver from Lenovo support/download site will give this problem. Only if I manually download Intel Graphics HD driver 10.18.10.4242, does it work. But it only works for a short time, then either Lenovo/Windows/Intel do a automatic driver update and I am back to the non working driver again.

Answer:graphics problem Carbon X1 20A7

Hi bjarnep,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Few of the drivers won?t work after the update of windows 10 but when you roll back to the earlier version it works and the same thing happened with my laptop too but to stop the updates what I did was, I just changed the windows update settings and now my system is working fine with no issues.

You can do this too, roll back to the earlier version in which the graphic driver works through device manager, so once you roll back to the earlier version go to windows update settings and click on advance settings and check the option defer upgrades.

Please let me know whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

We just got in our first of 7 x1 carbons (20a7) and im am trying to prepare our imaging enviornment to handle the new model. We have included ethernet extender (FRU 04X6435) which works fine in windows but when pxe booting i can see the MAC address and it waits for DHCP (the link and activity light on the extender do flash) after a few seconds we get a PXE-E53: no bootfile message and then get dumped back to the boot menu. I can pxe boot other machines off the same ethernet jack at my desk. Other laptops x230, t430s, all no problems.I have  tried UEFI/legacy boot  on both and on legacy only neither change the outcome. Since we are not using a usb adapter (this is the extender cable on the new x1s) i have not touched the usb settings. I have searched aroudn and found the threads of the older x1 carbons that used the usb 2.0 adapters but nothing on this new extender and it seems in those cases people were getting into the pxe environment and then having driver issues. I am not even getting that far. Our pxe enviornment (WDS) is setup to require a press of f12 on the client to actually boot and i never even get prompted for f12. Im really not even sure im getting DHCP right other than any other machine i plug is works fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Eric

Hi, I have a 2nd gen X1 Carbon (Type 20A7) that I bought about 3 years ago. I bought it configured with a 256GB SSD, but I'm quickly running out of space and would like to upgrade the drive. I have a few questions about this: I believe this generation of the X1 Carbon came with a max SSD size of 256GB, but does the system/motherboard, etc. support larger sizes? Is there a limit? I'm aiming for either 512 GB, or possibly 1 TB.Will the size of a new drive I choose impact speed/performance in any way?Lenovo doesn't seem to sell a 512 GB drive or larger drive for this system. Can I use a non-Lenovo one (i.e. bought from Newegg, Amazon, etc.)? I searched around on the Lenovo forums and it sounds like it's a stanard M.2 drive in the 2nd gen X1 Carbon, so should I be fine as long as I get an M.2 drive?M.2 drives have a few different connector types: B, M, and B+M. Does anyone know which connector type I need to get for the 2nd gen X1 Carbon?I'm planning on cloning my current drive onto the new larger one. What kind of adaptors, etc. would I need to do this? Also, I've never cloned a drive before so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but are there any issues cloning a smaller drive to a larger drive (i.e. the system only recognizing 256GB on the new larger drive)?Any other things I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

Answer:X1 Carbon Gen 2 (Type 20A7) SSD Upgrade

Lenovo lists 512GB drives as available, but there is no motherboard limit.  On that model, you need one that is described as SATA-3 (not NVMe) and size 2280.  Drives have B + M Key.  Not Lenovo drives should work, but I always suggest checking the seller's return policy in case of problems.

Hi, I've recently done a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. All went well and everything is updated to latest drivers. However when i watch youtube for a couple of minutes the machine crashes with bluescreen and sometimes just graphical artefacts. If I just work normally it stays alive for long periods of time. So I have reason to believe it is connected to the graphics drivers. Is there any known solution for this?

Well, I got my new X1 Carbon. Dumped Windows 8 and re-installed Windows 7 SP1 from scratch. There is a problem with the Realtek sound drivers. If the volume is above 30 (or so), the sound cuts in and out. The Windows Startup sound never plays right. Play any source and if you turn the volume up, the sound cuts in and out like a bad cell phone call. BUT, uninstall the Realtek sound drivers (6.0.1.7188) and let Windows install its base HD Audio Sound driver and all is good. I also tested the master Realtek drivers R2.73 and still the same problem.  It is like when the digital signal is too strong, whatever converts it to analog gets overloaded and cuts. Has anyone encountered this problem ? I see many other issues with the sound on the new X1...

I apologize if this is buried somewhere on the forum. I searched for hours, really, but could not find anything exactly relating to this. After months of "Upgrade to Windows 10" pop ups I finally did it. On Windows 7 I was able to change my battery capacity to 100% before I left for a business trip then change it back when I returned home. Now I can't find where to do that and it won't charge above 46%. I've tried downloading the Lenovo Power Manager as one post suggested but it doens't have the seperate "Power" menu item as the instructions displayed. I've tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery as another post suggested but that didn't help either.I have this option after upgrading my Ultrabook Yoga 2 to Windows 10. The Enegery Manager remained loaded. I simply want the same control over my battery on my X1 as I have on my Yoga. Can anyone help me?Thanking all of you in advance,Clare

Answer:Cannot charge battery to 100% on X1 Carbon (20A7) ...

I'm just going to throw this out there, no guarantee that your system has the exact setup as mine or that I am understanding your issue completely: I have a Lenovo Settings app in my Windows menu; within that settings application there is a battery section, at the end of this section is a battery gauge reset. I would start there to recover your battery threshold. Hope this helps.

Prior to this problem the machine was running fine, there were no major updates that I recall, I certainly did not do any firmware updates for example, probably only Windows 10 automatic updates. So when this first happened there was a blue screen. The first few times it started booting windows and blue screened before reaching the login screen - now I can't even get the screen to come on, not even bios, just the following.. When I press the power button the keyboard backlighting and LCD Fn keys appear. The screen does not appear to start. Sometimes the machine stays like this for about a minute then switch off, sometimes it seems to reboot endlessly. When it is rebooting the power button flashes 3 times. I have tried the following with no success:Running on AC and no AC.Charging for a day.Letting the machine sit for at least a week off the charger.Holding the power button for 3, 10, 20, 30 seconds, etc..Pressing the power button multiple times.Pressing the reset button with a paperclip.Pressing the F1, F12, delete keys immediately on powerup, etc..  Any suggestions? I haven't opened it up yet, but I am comfortable doing that.

Fingerprint reader was working perfectly fine but I couldn't get it to work with my domain account. After trying some troubleshooting, there was a suggestion to delete the drivers and reinstall it. So I go into device manager and uninstall the fingerprint reader drivers. The problem is now I can't find the fingerprint reader driver! It's not in the lenovo driver page.. I tried Windows drivers update and everything else but still not working. Where do I download the fingerprint drivers???

With Windows 8.1 and the X1 Carbon 20A7 the startup screen is instantaneous. The function keys are adaptive so the F1 key is not lit. Getting into the Bios was important since the Intel RapidStart was enabled and this would interfere with the Lenovo Power Management and make the X1 not wake from sleep without being plugged into the AC connector. I finally found after lots of asking and looking that holding down the Power Button for ten seconds when the machine is off will make the X1 boot into the BIOS (technically UEFI) screen. Then I was able to disable Intel RapidStart. I could not find this in the manual.

Hi can someone give advice if this is a screen default and will it need replacing?

The vertical dark band has been visible since purchase date and is always present.
It is 1cm in width and at the center of the screen. It appears darkest at the bottom and gradualy extends to the top of screen. It doesnt flicker (none that I can detect).

Is a known problem with the x1 20A7 touchscreen display?

Any opinions much appreciated.

Cheers, Ili

I have looked through the community and support forums but I am not able to locate a posting on how to replace a keyboard on the Lenovo X1 Carbon Thinkpad Type 20A7 - 002FUS. Does anyone know if there is video or instructional reference material to provide guidance on how to replace the keyboard on an X1 Carbon 20A7 Model Type. In most cases I see reference to replacing the Adaptive Keyboard but my case requires the entire keyboard replacement.  As much as I would like to see instructions, if not available, I'm sure I can figure it out on my own and will post a video or instructions to the community if allowed.

Hey Lenovo, I'm writing because I have not been able to solve my Wi-Fi problems. The Intel Wireless AC 7260 is very unstable and does not update properly. I am about 10-15 feet away from my router, which normally is fine, even for my Galaxy Neus 5, but speed drops are detrimental to my usage. Often, it'll fluctuate between 3-5 bars, and occasionally drop connection completely. Here are things I've tried: -Update drivers (I am currently using 16.6.0.8, which allows me to connect. However, when I try to update to 16.10.0.5, it won't actually update, but rather it stays at 16.6.0.8. So that being said, I found a direct update installer as opposed to the Lenovo update software and was able to install it. Not surprisingly, it didn't allow me to connect to my router whatsoever. It would say that the router is not compatible, and I would have to roll-back my driver to 16.6.0.8 in order to gain internet access.)-Change power settings to maximum power.-Unselect allow to turn off wi-fi when low on power.-Installing drivers version 17 and 16.5.-Uninstalling drivers completely, reinstalling.-Restarting the computer.-Already uninstalled Norton-Running Lenovo's system update-Windows update-Firewall exceptions  Additionally, I should mention that I'm 10-15 feet away through a wall. I am positive that it's not a router issue, as I have been using this router for about half a year prior to receiving my Lenovo X1 Carbon. I am using Windows 8.1, 64 bit. Another thing I shoul... Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd 20A7 touchpad not responding

Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?

Answer:X1 Carbon NOW WITH GOBI 4000? LTE AT&T

Well this is very odd. The disassembly photos here clearly show it only supports a half height card.I found this page which shows an Ericson card, but has GOBI 4000 listed under physical specs (with the model number for a full-size GOBI 4000).

I had to reinstall my laptop with Windows 10 (not upgraded from Windows 8, full & clean Wnd10 install) and unfortunatly the adaptative keyboard doesn't work when resuming a (shallow or deep) hibernated session. Not having Fx keys forces me to restart Wnd and lose my session. Is there some drivers to install? X1 Carbon (20A7) bought in Nov 2014.
