Preferred Solution: X230 Scrolling Help on Trackpad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I received my X230 yesterday and I'm pretty satistied overall with it. Although, there are a few annoying issues and I'm wondering if anyone else experienced them and have found a way around them. First one is windows 8, although I'm not expecting any advice here I simply can't stand it and will format with windows 7 ASAP. My second problem would have to be with the trackpad. It is pretty much exactly what I'm expecting (average trackpad) other than 1 specific motion that makes it completly frustrating for me to use. Basically it's when I move a finger from any top portion of the trackpad (and by top I mean, if you lay a finger down just above the trackpad and then slide down). To be more specific : If I slide down from the middle portion of the trackpad, NOTHING works. I could move my finger for 10 minutes and nothing is registered. My motions are seen in the drivers though! But are all ignored. From the top left and right side only the "going down" movement doesnt work. Whatever I do with my finger afterwards registers okay. This speicial motion works WITHOUT the latest UltraNav drivers. As far as playing with the options when the drivers were installed, I literally tried to disable everything and nothing changed. I can see that my movements are registered (using the drivers) but no mouse movement happen when coming from the top. Using the trackpad without any drivers suck pretty bad though. Third grip would have to be with th... Read more

I've got an X230 where the trackpad no longer moves the pointer around the screen. Rather, when using it acts as though you are using the TAB key and as you move your mouse around on it different buttons, fields, icons, etc. are selected. This only happens under one profile and I've replaced driver. I'm pretty sure this is a setting but can't find it. Please help! Thank you.

I have had my X230 for a couple of months and I am impressed with it. However I have noticed that the plastic lip that forms part of the palm rest has a high degree of flex around the area bottom of the trackpad and on occasion seems to get caught when I press don on the trackpad. I don?t have it with me at the moment, so I?ve highlighted where the problem is on one of the Lenovo stock images of the model: The place where I work has an older X220 and there is no flex at the same postion on that model. Is this an issue? Any comments would be appracated. Regards, Dan

Answer:X230 - plastic flex around bottom edge of trackpad

Strange coincidence. I've removed my palm rest for a CRU repair so I'm familiar with how it attaches. I took a look at mine to see how much flex it has without the problem, and to my surprise I had the problem, too! In my case (and hopefully yours) a few of the "keepers" on the palm rest came loose.

This link will show the parts I'm referring to:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD024282

My palm rest (20) had a gap between it and the base cover assembly (10) at the track pad (pic). On the underside of the palm rest there is a metal frame around the trackpad. This metal frame has tabs on the front that fit into slots in the plastic palm rest. Somehow the thin plastic of the palm rest had pulled out far enough so the tabs came out of the slots and then shifted up so the palm rest slots were sitting on top of the tabs. Hopefully the pics will help this make sense. One pic shows the tabs out of the slots and the other shows the tabs in the slots.

Once the tabs were back in the slots and the palm rest was secured to the base cover assembly, there is no gap or give to the palm rest at all. The keyboard attaches with two screws and the palm rest attaches with five. Instructions are in the hardware maintenance manual and it's easy. I hope your problem and resolution turns out to be as simple as mine!

Hi Lenovo community! I have just purchased the Lenovo Yoga 2 and have been exploring all of it's features. I've found that the two finge scroll feature using the trackpad is either much too sensitive or all together too fast. Whenever I try scrolling down a page, it skips to the very bottom. I've looked under trackpad options and haven't found a way to adjust this problem. Any recommendations? Thanks so much!

Answer:Scrolling with trackpad is way too fast!

1. Right-click the touchpad icon in your system tray. (Synaptics)2. Choose 'Pointing device properties'
3. Go to the 'Wheel' tab
4. In the first section 'Vertical Scrolling' > 'Roll the wheel one notch to scroll: ' you select 'The following number of lines at the time:', and change its default value '3' to something lower for example '1' or '2'.

I have drivers for both synaptics and elantech touchpads. synaptics is supposed to support two finger scrolling on my computer but there is no option there to enable it. I have a Samsung laptop, my model number is Rv515-A04US, running windows 7. Under device manager elantech is not listed. I guess it didn't install? I have Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics Trackpad no scrolling

I have a Samsung laptop, my model number is Rv515-A04USClick to expand...

Here is the support site for the Samsung NP-RV515-A04US laptop:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/NP-RV515-A04US

Select the "Downloads " tab and then select the "Drivers" section and then select the Windows operating system.

The list of device drivers for that laptop will appear.

The touchpad driver package (version 4.1.0.0) contains files for both Elan and Synaptics touchpads.

It's my guess that activating the TouchpadSetup.exe file will detect the correct touchpad and install the correct driver.

What do you mean under "old style" term? I don't see any new ultranav features on x220/230.

When scrolling in Windows 10 using the trackpad of the XPS 15 9550, sometimes scrolling is extremely slow. (You can scroll, and physically sit back and wait for the scrolling to finish.)
I noticed this in windows which contain a treeview (e.g., the left pane of the Windows explorer, foobar2000 album view), and not (yet) in other windows (e.g., Chrome, or the right pane in the Windows explorer).
When plugging in an external mouse and using this to scroll, this does not occur, indicating a possible issue with the trackpad drivers or settings?
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have a Yoga 900.  I use a Logitech wireless mouse that connects to my computer with USB receiver. I love the "natural scrolling" option that my trackpad uses (when I move my finger up, I want the screen to scroll down, like on a tablet).  However my USB mouse goes the opposite way.  It makes it really confusing having the 2 mouses scroll different directions.  I want to have them the same because I use each about half the time, so reversing the scrolling altogether won't work. How can I reverse the scrolling direction on my USB mouse while leaving the trackpad as-is? Thanks in advance!

I just got a X1 Carbon after the base on my Helix started having permanent errors. After spending half a day getting things set up on this machine, I'm finding myself with an EXTREMELY irritating problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I don't like "natural" scrolling so went through the trouble of finding and fixing the trackpad scrolling "feature."  I have now gotten it set up so that I can now scroll appropriately in the apps on the desktop in Windows, but in Windows Mail the scroll direction won't change no which direction things are scrolling on the desktop (it is always "natural").  Needless to say, with a crap-ton of work to do, this is the last thing I want to be dealing with.  Shouldn't it be possible to scroll in the same direction across all of Windows 8.1.  I'm guessing that this is a Synaptics issue, but frankly, I don't care.  We pay more money to Lenovo for these devices so that they work.  Help!! BTW: this wasn't a problem with the Helix, so it would be hard to blame this on Windows 8.1.

Hey, I'm a new lenovo user. The trackpad on my SL410 is nice, but the two finger scrolling feature is unacceptable. Its unresponsive, or zips me to the top of the page when I'm trying to scroll down. I've fiddled with all the controls available in the control panel and its made a big difference. But its still nowhere as smooth as a Mac, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.  Any drivers or something I can install that would help? Thanks for your help! james

The driver for the yoga 3 pro on Windows 10 needs some work.  You can no longer use double fingers to scroll on the start menu or in many of the modern apps.   Is there any work around to this?  When unstalling the driver, the trackpad isn't disbled in tabalet mode, which is more annoying than the scroll issue.

Just bought  a Carbon X1 with windows 10. Everything works except for scrolling with one finger on trackpad as I always did on my E450. Called support and he installed new drivers but still no scrolling. Trackpad works for cursor movement and clicking. Called support back and fix is to return laptop for motherboard replacement. Seems extreme and last ime I sent in E450 for disk drive and motherboard replacement laptop became erratic. Rather not have even a trained technician opening up a brand new $1500 laptop. I have two questions:1) Should single finger scrolling work on my Carbon X12) Is there a setting for scrolling. I recall on my E450 running windows 10 that I was able to specify where I wanted scrolling to be active on the trackpad (Left edge, right edge and even width of active path.

Just got this machine (Yoga 13 i5) 3 days ago, and while I'm satisfied for the most part I noticed that scrolling in web pages using either Firefox or IE is pretty slow. Actually it seems like webpage rendering overall is a little weak. I'm coming from a Acer Timeline X 3830T which has pretty much the same specs as the Yoga 13 and there's no comparison. The acer always rendered instantly and never felt slow loading. The odd thing is that if I use my fingers in IE the scrolling is just as smooth as on my iPhone. In Firefox it's the same laggyness. It doesn't feel like a problem with the trackpad itself, rather It feels as if the GPU simply can't keep up, which I'd have trouble believeing. Am I the only one noticing this? Also what's with the CPU overhead? In task manager I'm seeing 15-20% cpu utilization at idle with a good chunk of it being taken up by WMI Provider Host.

Hi, I own the Dell XPS 15 9560.
How can I speeds up the trackpad scrolling when web browsing?.

Using two-finger scrolling on the trackpad of my laptop, the vertical scrolling is way too fast. In the diff-view and in the list of commits, the view scrolls by more than a page by moving my fingers only a millimetre (1/16 of an inch). Just rolling my fingertips moves the scrollbar by many pages.
When I use a mouse scrollwheel the scrolling speed is normal and even feels a little slow.
This software is from sourcetreeapp.com .
The people from sourcetree suggested it may be a driver issue, but all other software scrolls fine.  Does anyone else have this issue where one java-based program scrolls very quickly but all other programs work fine?

Thanks

Hello all!

I have recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) on a new Sony Vaio laptop. I am having trouble with the scroll facility using the trackpad when using Fire Fox 3.5. Unlike Google Chrome, Opera and IE 8 the small 'scrolling icon' doesn't appear in Fire Fox. However I do have some functionality when scrolling but it is very intermittent. I can use Fire Fox ok using a standard USB mouse though.

I have updated all drivers from Symantics for the trackpad/mouse and searched many forums for a solution but have had no luck.

Is this is bug that will be fixed or a fluke? I absolutely love FireFox - it is the hands down best browser out there and don't want to switch to IE8, Chrome or Opera because they just aren't as good.

Many, many thanks.

At several occasions now, my trackpad two-finger-scrolling stops functioning as it should after some time of using the system. It seems the gesture is still recognized, but it is handled incorrectly: rather than scrolling 'within' the selected window, the whole window seems to 'bounce' indicating I can't scroll any further. Scrolling with an external mouse works fine, as does scrolling with the touchscreen, as does moving the mouse to the scrollbar and click-dragging.
I have updated all latest drivers, except the BIOS which is on A06 since I do not want to upgrade it (yet) since the higher versions currently cause the screen's brightness to flicker. Unless this BIOS is known to address these issues (not listed in the details) I do not see a reason to upgrade it (again).
Worth noting is that this issue only seems to arise after some time of using the system (possibly after a few sleep sessions?).

I want to be able to use my trackpad (apple magic trackpad) and mouse at the same time but it appears that there is only one global setting for scrolling that effects both the mouse and the trackpad. I've been trying to find an solution to this, but have been unable, so hopefully someone here will help.  Got my X1 Carbon - 2015- 20BS about a month ago, and have an issue with scrolling horizontally in Excel only.  I just can't get it to two-finger scroll horizontally.  Vertical scrolling works fine.  Other office applications work fine, vertical and horizontal. I rolled back the Synaptics Driver (19.017.2), uninstalled it and installed the one from Lenovo site, but I can't get it work.  I've looked at Excel settings, unistalled, reinstalled, repaired and still no dice.  Any ideas?  Is there something that I'm missing in a setting somewhere?  I work in Excel pretty much all day so this is fairly annoying to say the least.  Thanks in advance.  R

Answer:Scrolling issue on trackpad - Edge E430

Hi, Hariharan

I would firstly make sure that the BIOS have been updated. The computer may be new, but sometimes the latest BIOS is not the one installed at the beginning. You can find the latest BIOS here.

I would then go to the Control Panel and select Mouse. There should be a new window with a tab on the right called UltraNav. I would check the settings of the device here and make sure that everything is set as it should be. This section allows you to configure other actions of the TrackPad, such as scrolling, tapping, swiping, etc.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

I got my Lenovo Yoga 710 in the summer of 2016, and everything works great except for the inactive scrolling. The inactive scrolling only works when I have an external mouse attached to my laptop, in which I am able to type in one window while scrolling in another window that's inactive. However, the inactive scrolling doesn't seem to work when I am using my trackpad and not an external mouse. I have updated all of my drivers, but I just don't understand why the feature would work only with the external mouse and not the trackpad. It is rather inconvenient to carry around an external mouse when the trackpad is supposed to do the job. I am coming from a Macbook Pro and I really miss the inactive scrolling that it provided.  I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me. Thanks! P.S. I do not have any third party software installed and the inactive scrolling feature is "enabled."

My Aspire M5-481PT laptop was working fine for months with Windows 10, then suddently the trackpad stopped working after an automatic update. I was able to install the most recent Synaptic Windows 10 driver, and after a few hours of farting around got the trackpad to work again, but the two finger scrolled still doesn't work...it doesn't show up as an option in the Synaptic settings (see screenshot):Has anyone come up with a fix for this?   This seems to be a common issue with Windows 10 and the new automatic driver updating which is impossible to turn off.  Come on Microsoft / Acer, how could a critical piece of hardware like this stop working?!  Let's do some better testing before rolling out updates....every time I waste hours to getting my computer to work with little support from the manufacturers, I am a one step closer to buying an Apple machine next time. Thanks for your help,Allen

More and more I'm finding that the cursor randomly jumps all over the screen when I touch my trackpad. Also instead of scrolling with a 2 finger touch it zooms instead. Never had this problem when I first got the computer and it started happening a lot within the last 2-3 weeks. Could this be a hardware issue such as a lose connection or electrical short? I haven't changed any drivers or installed updates so I'm inclined to not think its a software problem. Anyone else having issues like this?

Answer:Trackpad randomly jumps and zooms instead of scrolling on x220Tablet

My x201 was refurbished and when I got it, and the touchpad was a nightmare. The cursor jumped all over the screen, it started often to zoom instead of scroll (or started zoom without a reason) and sometimes half the pad stopped working. I called the Lenovo service here in Sweden, and the next day a guy came home to me, changed the mousepad with a new one and afterwards it worked perfectly. This was 4 months ago and it has been working perfectly since then.

Hi, you may find that you need to force Windows 10 to use your older driver.

This is discussed here, together with how to suppress a particular update. (Search the page for 'powershell').

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 (base non-pro) 11 W8.1 with all the latest updates from microsoft.   The trackpad has never worked successfully with 2-finger scrolling.   There was a lot of buzz in 2014 on the trackpad issue on this formum and elsewhere; I haven't seen much posted in the past 6 months so I don't know if a) the issue has been fixed or b) people have given up.  Notably I've seen recomendations to download use the trackpad manufacturer's drivers, but others have commented that this disables the tablet features.  Apparently the proper driver would have to emerge from Lenovo. Has there been a resolution to 2-finger scrolling on Lenovo Yoga 2 11 that retains the tablet and other convertible features? thank you,-rei

Aside from the below trackpad issues, coil whine and fan that likes to spin up even when doing basic tasks, I quite like the new Spectre x360. Issue 1: When using the entire trackpad as a click, the cursor will sometimes move just before I actually click down, which is something I never experienced on my MacBook Air's trackpad. This results in either missing what I originally wanted to click, or clicking on something entirely different. Issue 2: Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the bottom 20% of the trackpad. I can use two fingers in that area, but scrolling won't actually start until I get towards the middle of the trackpad. So, until I hit that area, it'll just be single-finger pointing. Given the trackpad's wider than it is tall, this can become a problem. I tried messing around with the dated-looking Synaptics settings program, but couldn't get anything to help. Maybe it'll get better with time on its own? Otherwise, hopefully software updates will fix it...

I recently got the Ideapad S400 touch, and for the most part it works fine. However, the trackpad often becomes erratic, and the most annoying thing it does is randomly stop its scrolling feature (two fingers on the trackpad to scroll). Usually if I restart the computer, it works again, but I'd like to find a better solution. Any ideas?

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

My brand-new P50 laptop was behaving as though the left trackpad button was sticking. When single-tapping the left trackpad button, it would behave as though the "click n' drag" setting was enabled: the trackpad would override the keyboard, preventing me from typing until either the trackpad was moved again or the button was clicked again.  I work for Microsoft and have always used Lenovo products without ever having encountered an issue before, so I was more than a little surprised. I called Lenovo support, and they were less than helpful. In the end, they suggested that the trackpad itself was defective. The laptop was orvernighted to the repair depot in the southeast. Naturally, there was a three-week wait for parts - despite this being a model currently in production. Finally, after causing a stink (this is, after all, my primary work machine), a helpful support tech located parts at another facility. Another week later, and my laptop was back - with the SAME problem continuing to surface. This time I dug deeper, looking into the various trackpad settings, tweaking the various "accidental interrupt" delay settings, verifying that the "click to drag" feature was disabled, and running various diagnostics on the trackpad itself. The one interesting thing I noted was that the button-stickiness only seemed to happen in applications (IE, Word, etc.) - the button "stickiness" didn't happen when scrolling through Windows... Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

I recently updated/upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. The default mouse settings is to scroll using two fingers. I want to go back to using one finger to scroll on the right side of my mouse pad on my laptop. I have tried the settings for the mouse including the advanced settings. I clicked on device settings and then settings underneath that, which led me to a different window. When I clicked on the scrolling portion, it gave me pinch zoom and rotating.
All other forums have told me there should be a one finger scroll and two finger scroll tab under scrolling. I don't know if this is an option for 8.1, or if I am just not finding where I should be looking, but this is an issue for me.
Thank you!

Answer:How do I change my mouse settings from two touch scrolling to one touch scrolling?

Check your laptop manufacturers website for trackpad/touchpad drivers for Windows 10.
My Thinkpad in the Mouse Settings (advanced) has a section for the trackpad and I can set this so perhaps your drivers are not up to date for your device. I know a friend had to manually download those for his Dell to make that work like he wanted.

This morning, I decided to make the jump to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, and I have to say, the design looks simpler to use, but this new OS software has done something with my touchpad. Originally, on my Windows 8.1, I was able to scroll through whatever web pages or folders in my computer with one finger using my touchpad. With this new update, initially, I thought it broke my touchpad completely, but the problem has been narrowed down to having to now use two fingers to scroll in the most awkward way as this touchpad doesn't seemed to be designed for two finger scrolling. Is there a way for me to change this back? Would I have to revert back to Windows 8.1 to get my one finger scrolling back?

The laptop I am using is a Gateway NE56R34u, and the touchpad is an ELAN. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Answer:How to change from two-finger scrolling back to one-finger scrolling?

Would Gateway drivers for their touchpad be one area to explore ?

I was looking at a Logitech touchpad, and it appears their drivers are what controls the response/numbers of fingers/digits.

Question: TRACKPAD

I have a less than 2 month old Acer Aspire 5100-3357 notebook (with Vista Premium).  The track pad has been fine until all of a sudden i turned it on one day and it worked for a second or two and then just stopped.  The scroll pad and the two clickers do not work at all.  I tried uninstalling the drivers and re installing, updating, etc.  Nothing seems to work.  In the driver manager it says "This driver is working properly" but it's obviously not.  Does anyone have any ideas???

Answer:TRACKPAD

If the trackpad has never worked in Vista it's likely a driver related issue make sure you're downloading Vista drivers and/or that they are available. Unfortunately there are still hardware manufacturers who do not have Vista support for all their hardware. If it has worked in Vista in the past I'd first recommend you disconnect any mouse connected to the laptop (for example, disconnecting any PS/2 or USB mouse) recommend that you verify the trackpad is enable in CMOS. Additional information about getting into CMOS can be found on the below document.http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000192.htmIf the enabled in CMOS because you've already re-installed the drivers unfortunately I'd say that the touchpad is bad. However, it's still a small possibility that it could be some type of driver incompatibility or confliction with Vista. I'd suggest either reinstalling XP onto the computer if you don't believe it is a hardware issue and/or contacting Acer for recommendations on repair.Additionally if these solutions don't help, you could also do the workaround with just using an external mouse instead of the touchpad.

Any feedback on how people are liking (or not) the Y50 trackpad?

Answer:Y50 trackpad - how is it?

In a word, weird. Placement is too far left on top plate. Design of secondary button built into the trackpad just doesn't work all that well. I find myself pressing the secondary when I mean to press the primary. A secondary button that is an actual button, or no secondary button at all would be better, IMO.

Hello,
I just bought a refurbished Asus S56C (running windows 8) to use at work at although the trackpad works, it is not very pleasant.
I have adjusted the settings as much to my liking as possible but the vertical scrolling is jerky and it often misses the two finger tap for 'right click' gesture.
The current driver is up to date, I read that some Asus use Elan and some Synaptics trackpad software but mine just seems to be signed as Asus. I've attached a screenshot of the driver details as they are now.
Is it possible to download a better driver that would make the trackpad a bit more user friendly?
Thanks very much

I just got a t430u as a company laptop. Answer:T430U trackpad

The rough texture is there to make it easier to judge how much distance your finger has travelled, as well as to mark the boundaries of the touchpad (which is now flush with the palmrest). As for double finger tap, it should be under Mouse > UltraNav Tab > TouchPad Settings > Application Gestures > Two-Finger Double Tap.

Is there any way to readjust the x and y sensitivity of a trackpad? It seems weird how mousing up and down is so slow when left and right is so much quicker.

Answer:Trackpad X/Y sensitivity

Mouse properties under control panel. Increase the pointer speed, and you should also have a separate set of options for your touchpad from the drivers - should be an option in there to increase speed. As far as changing speed of each individual axis... that would be something the drivers would have to support.

Have you tried checking for updated driver/software for your touchpad? If you have a Synaptics touchpad, go here for the latest drivers: Drivers | Synaptics

I have a new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen and the track has the following problems with two finger scroll. 1 When scrolling with Internet Explorer or Edge it scrolls smoothly but then the page will start jumping up and down. It often does this during a smooth two finger scrolling stroke. 2 When scrolling through a text document, directories and most things that are not browser related the effort and number of strokes with my fingers required goes up hugely. It is like the page is stuck and difficult to move. I write software so scrolling through documents with various editors and android studio is part of my daily work. I have the latest Bios, latest drivers and Windows is fully up to date. I reported the fault to Lenovo and they signed on to my computer and agreed there is a problem. They offered to swap the laptop or to get an engineer out to replace the touchpad. When I told the consultant that this is the second X1 Yoga laptop I have had because of this problem he said it was probably a bad batch of hardware. I doubt this as it seems more like bad drivers. Does anyone else have these problems? I am currently using a Thinkpad T420 which I think is perfect machine in all ways but just too slow now. Phil

Question: X1 Carbon Trackpad

I've got my X1 Carbon 2 Weeks ago and it's been working absolutely smooth so far. However I've been experiencing a problem lately:The Trackpad acts like there'd be a finger constantly touching it. So, if I use the Trackpad to move the cursor, it just won't move, but scroll the page instead. I've been trying to fix this problem for quite a while now and started to find out some other issues:1. Cleaning the Trackpad with my fingers seems to "erase" the rubber coating (leaving "rubber material" behind like an eraser does).2. I've been wondering why on earth Lenovo would cover the Carbon fiber with a very cheap looking "rubber" coat that takes every fingerprint it possibly could. Why not just let the X1 Carbon in a nice Carbonfiber-look? Luckally there ist still the Trackpoint, that works perfectly and is one of the reasons I've bought a Thinkpad. However I'd be happy to get some help with the Trackpad-issue. Thanks

Answer:X1 Carbon Trackpad

My trackpad also gives off this "eraser" material like feel whenever I'm using it. It feels like part of the rubber is scraping off and it is very unpleasant and annoying. I can brush the material away and it comes right back an hour later. Does anyone else have that problem? Other than the trackpad, I am otherwise quite pleased with the product.

Question: Trackpad cracking

Hello, A few weeks ago a really annoying cracking sound of my trackpad started to show up.When i touch the trackpad (not even with a little bit of force), the sound shows up. It's really annoying, please help. I dont know what causes the weird cracking sound. It's even there when i bearly touch the corners of the trackpad. I know it's a gaming laptop. And mostly gamers dont use the trackpad. But i do, because i use it for business and school. Other then that.. I love the laptop, It's fast, sleek, looks cool. But the trackpad is just really annoying. I hope you can help me with this problem, Greetings,  Remco Schonewille

Question: Trackpad issues

hello everyone, just received my SL300 today in the mail and i'm extremely satisfied. however, one small issue that's turning into a rather large one is concerning my trackpad. the scrolling ability on the trackpad works on some programs, but not all. is this a hardware issue or is this some kind of software glitch? it seems like the scrolling function only works on select programs like word, IE, photoshop, etc.... but not on others, such as itunes, YM...  any help is extremely appreciated.  cheers

Answer:Trackpad issues

Go into Control Panel, open up Mouse, go over to the Ultra Nav tab, click on the TrackPoint Settings, then Settings again, and change it to Smooth. Standard is based on the Office 97 Scrolling method, Smooth is modern day, I'm not sure why they don't make Smooth default, it's much better. (Yes, I know you said "TrackPad," but I think it applies to everything, even mice you plug in.)Message Edited by Xeogin on 11-24-2008 09:32 PM

Question: Trackpad problem

Hello, I'm having an issue with my trackpad.  It seems that no matter where I click on it, the click is treated as a right click.  In addition, I'm having trouble with the two-finger scrolling.  I know I touched the trackpad with wet hands earlier, but I dried it off.  I haven't run into this problem yet and it's my first Thinkpad, so I'm stuck.  Can anybody help?

I think I pretty much know the answer to this question however I'm in a slight dilemma.

I have an HP laptop here with the trackpad not responding at all. I dug all of the viruses out of it and reinstalled the drivers several times, as well as a system restore from 10 days ago. But the trackpad still didn't work. I considered re-imaging it since it has a recovery partition with a factory-loaded default image, but instead I decided to pop in a Linux LiveCD.

Upon booting Ubuntu, the trackpad still didn't work.

I checked all Fn keys. Nothing helped activate it. There's also a dedicated on/off button by the trackpad. It of course is enabled.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's hardware related, but my tools are at work and this is bugging the **** out of me. Is there anything else you guys think I should try before I crack this thing open tomorrow?

Answer:Trackpad Not Responsive.

There is a cable that connects that trackpad to the MB, while you do have to take a lot of the laptop apart to get to this cable it isan't as hard to get to as the processor. I agree, it does sound hardware related (assuming you've hooked up an external mouse and it worked) and if the plug is fine, you may need to replace the track pad.

My Pavilion laptop has a button right above the trackpad that turns it off - stupid i know but just make sure that light is on if your laptop has that button.

Question: Trackpad issue

I'm sure that this question has been asked on this forum before, but I can't find a solution. So please direct me! My trackpad and trackpoint on my S1 Thinkpad Yoga randomly stop working. Sometimes the cursor disappears, sometimes not. Sometimes closing the lid and reopening it (logging back in after sleep) bring the trackpad functionality back. Sometimes not. Sometimes restarting fixes it. Sometimes not.  I have seen Yoga (non thinkpad) owners complaining about a service called "YMC," which apparently turns off the mouse and keyboard when the device is rotated, causing this behavior. But I don't have such a service on my Thinkpad Yoga, so am stumped as to how to address this. Please help!

Answer:Trackpad issue

Dear jonklaus,

Hello,i was looking at the new 550 450 series and saw that Lenovo had returned to the old trackpoint buttons. Also i've notised for the short time i was able to take the quick look that the size of the new trackpad + buttons is the same as the trackpad in the 540 series. Also noticed that they didn't changed the keyboard, so the buttons are not connected to the keyboard as in the old ThinkPads, instead they're one module with the touchpad. So i was wondering if i buy it as a spare part would i be able to install it.Does anyone knows what are the exact sizes, what is the connection cable and etc.

Answer:Trackpad with buttons from the new E/T/W 450/550 to E/T/W 440/540

They seem to attach physically and electronically to the older models; though some eBay touchpad parts apparently don't accept drivers properly.

Seriously sick of randomly clicking because my hands are too fat.  I know that my previous dell had an option where it would automatically shut off the trackpad if an external mouse was detected.  Is that available on the 13?

Hello!  I bought this device just yesterday evening, and in about 12 hours usage I have had this problem about 3 times: 1) The trackpad slows down2) Next, it'll apparently start detecting the wrong gestures, like multifingered gestures when I use only one finger, or the inverse, or else it starts clicking when I'm not putting on much pressure, etc.3) Finally - and this is the worst part - the trackpad stops detecting pressure in about 60% of it's central area...4) I restart the system and everything is perfect again for a while. What should I do? Should I return the product? I already searched for updates in the software, but everything was fine and up to date. Thanks for your time!

Question: Trackpad delay

Hey guys, hoping someone can help me with this - When I first configured my x1 carbon, I somehow set the trackpad to have a 1 second delay after typing before it can be used - in other words, after I finish typing, I have to wait 1 second before swiping the trackpad. If I swipe before the second is up, the trackpad doesn't respond. I find this annoying and I'd like to disable it, but I can't find the option anywhere. Can someone help a brotha out? Thank you

Answer:Trackpad delay

what OS are you using, and which version ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Gen 1 or Gen 2 (2014 release).

Question: Trackpad Disabled

Using a Lenovo 3000 N500 and the trackpad is not functioning after downgrading to Windows XP SP3. I have 2 of these machines and 1 works fine, but this one the trackpad has the little LED light between the 2 buttons that is lit up. I am sure there must be an easy way to activate the trackpad again. An external mouse works.

Answer:Trackpad Disabled

On the right side of the laptop , above the keyboard are 4 touch sensors. The one on the extreme right controls the touch pad. Just place your finger over the right indicator and the pad will turn on.

I have a new (Oct 09 ) T400.  I recently installed Win 7.  Prior to the upgrade, my trackpad worked great.  After the upgrade, the trackpad is not smooth.  The motion of the pointer is jerky and the pad sensitivity seems to be inconsistent.  This seems to be a Win 7 issue as I dual boot with Ubuntu and the trackpad still works great in that OS. I don't see any driver updates in that section.  Any suggestions?

Question: Trackpad entreaty

I have an E540.Is there any way of disabling both the touchpad and the trackpoint button at the same  time? I removed the Synaptic driver, but they just reverted to some Microsoft driver. I've tried everything I can find on this and many other fora, and I've gotten nowhere. Anybody? Anything? Please?

Answer:Trackpad entreaty

Perhaps you could try to disable them in device manager?

Just asking, what is the use case for turning off both touchpad and trackpoint at the same time?  To use external mouse and avoid any unwanted pointer movement from the build in devices?

Mark
