Lenovo X1 Type 3460 - no signal from mini display port to display port or hdmi

Question: Lenovo X1 Type 3460 - no signal from mini display port to display port or hdmi

Hi all I have just bought a new Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch Typ 3460 notebook and I'm having the following technial issues:- Lenovo adapter minidp to VGA works fine- Lenovo adapter minidp to HDMI or DP does not work. The Intel HD graphic 4000 graphic card recognizes the monitor (DELL u2913wm / U2412M) but no signal is sent to them- Lenovo cable minidp to DP: no signal (the same issue that I have with the minidp to HDMI) OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (new set-up with all updates)Driver version of the graphic card: 10.18.10.3958 (automatically installed by windows 8.1 update) If I do the same tests with the same monitors and adapters / cable with my Lenovo X1 2047, they all work fine! The driver version of the Intel HD 4400 graphic card on this X1 is 10.18.10.3304. Any input is welcome!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought and received a Mini Display Port to HDMI TV adaptor from Amazon.ca.
I bought it because I need it to connect my Surface tablets to TV.

Well I received it today and tried it.
It works perfectly with my old Surface Pro1, but not on my Surface 3 ( it says No Signal on Surface 3 ).

Does anyone have an idea why is that ?

Aspire m5 - 583p - 5859 has both an HDMI port and a mini display port.  The monitor attached to the mini display port works fine until I connect the HDMI cable to a totally separate monitor.  Can both of the monitors be detected by the Aspire laptop at the same time?

Answer:hdmi and mini display port at the same time?

jetonenet,

You are only going to be able to use one at a time. You can extend your desktop so you use both the notebook screen and the monitor though.

1. The screen goes BLACK while the user is working but the system is still running for one user.
2.  Another user screen goes white while she is working and the system is still running.
Have installed the latest Video drivers from the Dell site and still the problem persist.  Can anyone provide any tech advice to resolve these issues.

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

Answer:Switching from Display Port to HDMI Shuts Off Display Port

Are you using two different Resolutions ? ie is the laptop using 3440x1440 like the Desktop ?
it sounds like the Monitor isn't resetting the Res after you switch back , you may need to hit auto adjust instead ?

Noticed you can get various mini-display port adapters that go to DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA etc.  But they all say they work for Mac's and Thunderbolt.  Are these adapters the same that they will work with the Mini-Display Port on the Lenovo Twist?

Answer:Thunderbolt Adapters in Mini-Display Port work w/Lenovo Twist?

I believe so - I purchased a rocketfish brand DVI to mini-DisplayPort adapter (in the Apple section) and it works just fine. I've since purchased a HDMI to mini-DP adapter and it works as well.

The x220 sadly didn't have an HDMI port, but to overcome this you can get a cable or adaptor for display port to HDMI but then I've seen quite a few people having issues getting sound from the display port to HDMI. Here is the answer. some of the adaptors and cables you get hold of might not transmit audio in the first place, so check the specification for it. then on your computer you need to try these things enable something in the control panel, sound settings, playback tab.  in white space right click and select show disabled and disconnected devices. you might already see the HDMI and you can set that as default, but if it is not yet showing at least you have enabled it here when you do get it to appear. next go to the device manager (also an icon in the control panel)you will see a folder called sound etc, so expand itIn mine it had the following: Bluetooth Hands free AudioConexant 20672 Smart Audio HDIntel(R) Display Audio do not try to update the drivers here - download and over-install the old ones(or remove old and be ready to install new - DO NOT delete the drivers and forget what they are called) useful link to the Lenovo drivers - I have it located in UK, change if you want at the tophttp://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/default.page?selector=expand As a matter of course I did a search online for Conexant 20672 windows 7 driver and Lenovo links were showing immediately, perhaps they have that chip exclusi... I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

On Amazon they have Mini-display port converters for Mac, they all seem to be Mac related, would a mac one work on my Windows PC? since it is just a converter? If not, then where could i buy one for PC for cheap?

Answer:Mini Display Port to DualDVI

Hello,

I haven't used any of these myself, but there are apparently a few companies which make adapters to do this:

Belkin ? F2CD060 - Mini DisplayPort to 2× DVI (F) splitter dongle
MonoPrice ? 8118 - Mini DisplayPort to DVI (2× DVI Output) Converter
Topper ? TP-MDC203 - Mini DisplayPort to DVI×2 Converter

Perhaps one of these meet your needs.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

Answer:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

My new Thinkstation D30 has two display ports and one DVI port, and I have 2 ASUS monitors (one is a 3D) with HDMI ports, plus DVI.  Right now I am using the DVI ports on the monitors, one monitor is connected to the DVI port on the Thinkstation, and the other is connected to a Display port via a DVI-Display Port dongle.  Both monitors also have HDMI ports. My question is this: Would there be any difference in performance if I were to use Display Port to HDMI dongles to connect the monitors, compared to the DVI connections?  I am not concerned with audio.

Answer:Display Port to HDMI

DVI doesnt carry audio, and if it is single link, has a lower resolution. HDMI can carry pretty much any type of audio signal. Displayport also supports audio, so displayport -> HDMI cable also supports audio (works for me driving 5.1 DTS and stereo).

Just purchased a new Mobo (Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe). Haven't bought the CPU. I am waithing on the new 22nm models. After taking a close look at the display outputs on the mobo I have a choice of HDMI or Display Port. None of my existing monitors have ports for that. Soooo I guess I get a new display.

What should I be looking at as far as cables and the choice between HDMI or Display Port. I am not familiar with either one. Also I am assuming the cabling is different for the two ports.

Answer:Display Port or HDMI

You can find adapters to allow you to use either with DVI. If your current monitor needs replacing anyway, an HDMI-native model will be cheaper than the DP version.

It can get more complicated if you have plans for multiple monitors down the road.

I have been doing a lot of research but all I find is B/S like when they were invented, royalty rights, extra pins ect. but not just some basics answers to some basic questions.

I have a video card and display both with HDMI and Display Port ability.
At the present time I'm using HDMI to HDMI.

1. Can I use HDMI and Display Port using 2 cables at the same time on the same screen and is it a advantage or disadvantage?
Please explain.

2. If I just use Display Port will it work better that just HDMI?

I don't have a Display Port to Display Port cable at this time.
I will buy one if it will make things better.

I'm not having a problem at this time. I'm just trying to get the most out of my hardware.

1 monitor 1 cable

since DP and HDMI are both digital, I guess there is no advantage either way (unlike analog vs digital).

2 outputs usually means dual monitor support, although you'd have to check the manual. Dual screens is the best upgrade I've ever made, esp for my C4D work - also good for watching TV whilst surfing !

BTW although I mainly use DVI, I had to buy a HDMI lead recently to test some gear. I was surprised to see a note in the package to the effect 'warning do not hot swap this lead - power down all equipment before connecting'. Apparently there's some kinda live detecting pin that can cause probs when hot plugging.

I have been having troubles with my display port monitor, and I just realized that the monitor is picking up 1923x1080 60hz (thats what the HP settings say on the monitor) but according to Windows its sending out 1920x1080.
ATI Radeon 5770
I don't have CCC installed because of previous issues, any ideas why I'm getting such an odd resolution?

Answer:Display port signal 1923x1080

1923 x 1080 is the actual resolution that you are getting, most manufacturers list the resolution as 1920 x 1080 because it is a much easier number for the consumer to remember. As far as your video issues are concerned, we may need more information. When do the issues appear, how often, and what is happening?

I have a Lenovo X250.  I am trying to project to an external monitor via the Mini Display Port via an adaptor and HDMI cable.  The connector, cable and monitor are fine, because I am able to project using another machine with them.  Also, I can tell that the X250 is switching to try to push the image to an external monitor because the resolution and settings change when I select "Duplicate" in the Fn+F7 option screen.  Lastly, if I use a monitor that accepts VGA, my X250 will duplicate the screen with no issue, so my assumption if that the projection fuctionality works on this X250.  My "Display Adapter" as shown in the Device Manager is an "Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500" and I have update it with the latest driver.  Any assistance or clues as to what I am doing wrong are appreciated.

Hello, I am trying to stream Netflix from my laptop so that it shows up on my TV using an HDMI cord and a mini-display to HDMI adapter. I got the video part working but the sound still comes through my computer instead of the TV. Other sources suggest going into the control panel and setting the TV as the default playback device for sound. I tried this but when I went to the sound settings but the television did not even show up as an option for a playback device, even when I had it show disabled and disconnected devices. I understand that it might be the adapter but the reviews for the adapter I bought online suggest that other people have gotten audio working with the same device, so I am going to have to assume for now that it is not the problem. I have a Lenovo T530 using windows 7; if you need any other information let me know. I am generally not too savy with computers so the more explanation the better. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Solved: HDMI To Display Port

Afraid adapters aren't going to work.
SVGA outputs an analog signal.
HDMI is digital.
You would need a signal converter and those aren't very cheap.

the workstation has 3x DisplayPort and nothing else. we can use a DP - HDMI cable and everything works fine. what we want to achieve is using this cable to plug into an active HDMI  extender which plugs into the back of the monitor. we have three monitors, one local to the PC which uses a passive DP to DVI converter, this works fine. the other two monitors need to be run over the extenders but we cannot get them to work. would we need an active converter to get the DP signal to HDMI because we are using an extender or is there something else that we've missed?

(On a separate note, I couldn't get the sound to work on the TV either) So, once I got done I un plugged my laptop and it adjusted my resolution but my brightness didn't change back. I have tried to adjust both software brightness and hardware brightness. The software actually does change but not enough to matter and the hardware adjustment does nothing, up or down. I tried change settings in menu input control, also tried solutions found in internet where some people fixed the problem by unplugging power cord about 1min.  and back again, not sure if I've done everything correctly but so far I can't get digital signal in my monitor. I have also installed driver from the CD provided. The new problem I'm facing now is that it's very hard now to unplug this display port cable from the monitor, I press the button to release it but the plug doesn't want to go out. Hi,I have a ZBook 17 G2 and  its plugged into a docking station. I had been working totally fine- being able to see an extended desktop on both the two regular monitors )plugged into dvi output on the dock) and the larger one plugged into the mini-display. If i remove the laptop from the dock, the mini-display port functions again, so I know its nothing wrong with either the external display, the cables or the the mini-display->HDMI adapter. Any idea how i can roll back that update? I think its the culprit, as it was functioning totally fine until it was installed. Thanks for your help,-Dan

It was a cable issue.

Answer:Precision 7720 mini display port disabled

To my knowledge there's no way to disable the Mini DisplayPort output by design, so if it's not working, I don't think it could be a configuration issue.  If you haven't already tried toggling the "Graphics special mode" option, you may get different results by changing that setting, but the output is supposed to work either way, so that would just be some experimentation.  Otherwise, if you've already tried things like changing the cable and/or display (or you've validated that display and cable elsewhere), my guess is that this is a hardware issue that will require a motherboard replacement to resolve.

Hello, I have searched the forum and it seem several folks are having trouble connecting their T510 to a TV.  Using a Display Port to HDMI adapter, some people are having full success, others are getting video but no audio, and others are not getting audio or video. Any thoughts on how to at least get video?  Would this work:http://www.ebay.com/itm/350401632362?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649The description says, " While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing an HDMI signal, DisplayPort and HDMI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. In order for this cable to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HDMI signal through the DisplayPort jack. Any recommendations for an inexpensive, working adapter cable would be appreciated.  One poster said the Dell adapter was working, see http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Cables/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=330-1271#O... . Is there a difference between a cable with a Display Port connector on one side and an HDMI connnector on the other and an "adapter" that has some kind of conversion circuitry inside? Thank you,bdz

I have an X220 with an i72620 running win 7 64.  curious behavior today.  when I connect the laptop to a wqhd monitor (2560x1440) via a display port to display port cable and turn off the laptop screen so as to run only the monitor things work great.  No issues.  However I tried a connection via dispaly port to hdmi and while i could get the monitor to work running the native resolution of the X220 screen (around 1366x768), every time I tried to select external monitor only, the machine would blue screen and crash.  Any ideas why???????? I did one experiment hooking the display port to hdmi to another monitor--this one 1920x1080--and that did work. I guess I can't figure out why the display port to display port works fine with the wqhd monitor but not when a display port to hdmi is used.

I'm considering buying the 2014 X1 with the HD+ display and the Intel 4400 graphics, and trying to figure out how much external display I can drive. A few questions: 1. With the the built-in display disabled, if I use the MiniDP to drive one external display, can I use the HDMI at the same time to drive a 2nd external display? 2. If so, with the MiniDP is driving a 2560 x 600 display, what is the maximum resolution that the HDMI can drive? 3. Same as Q1 above, but with the built-in display enabled 4. Same as Q2 above, but with the built-in display enabled I'd prefer to avoid using a docking station if possible.  I've talked to four different departments at Lenovo, and failed to get answers to these questions. Doubly frustrating because I worked a IBM PC division Monitor Development  department 15 years ago.. thanks tom

Answer:X1 (2014) Display port and HDMI at same time

1. From memory, since i don't have the machine in front of me. You can use both the miniDP and HDMI at the same time, while still use the internal display. 2. When miniDP is driving the QHD+, the HDMI which is 1.4 standards, can drive another one at QHD+.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/13510754783/3. You can drive 3 x QHD+, if you have the QHD+ internal screen, and two QHD+ connected through HDMI and miniDP.

I have a Samsung TV with a Thinkpad T430 with the same problem. My solution is to plug the cable in-and-out several times, and just press some volumebuttons on the laptop, it works in 95% cases.

Received in the new port replicator to use with a new Surface Pro 3. The Mini Display Ports do not work for supporting Monitors. Is this a known issue? There seems to be chatter on forums backing that it may be.
Tried all varieties of adapters, USB to DVI and Mini DP to DVI - USB works and DP doesn't. Tried two Mini DP - DVI adapters - neither one works. The Mini DP on the actual surface works to run the monitor when plugged in.
Anyone else seeing this?

Are you talking about the display dock? i had one stop working on the mini DP about 4 months ago and they sent out a replacement.....which has just started also not to work with mini DP, tried 2 different monitors but no joy, only works when plugged into the SP3 directly on the side. Due to the fact that the swap out was painless and they didnt even ask for the old one to be returned i suspect this may be a 'known issue'

Hi there, I have a spectre x360 which I am using with 2 monitors: 1 x 24in monitor plugged via HDMI - HDMI lead1 x 27in monitor pluged via mini DP - full size DP lead I have the laptop screen and the 2 monitor screens on at the same time - so effectivily im using a total of 3 screens. Everything works fine until the laptop goes to sleep. When I wake up the laptop, the laptop screen and the monitor plugged in via HDMI turn on. The monitor plugged in via display port doesnt wake up. The only fix is to unplug the mini displayport cable and plug it back in to the laptop - this wakes up the monitor. The issue with unplugging and plugging the cable back in is all the windows that I had opened get moved about and its very frustrating. Please advise how I can get the laptop to wake up both monitors. thanks

I have a W530 and I am trying to connect to a Dell S2740L monitor.  When doing so via RGB, no problem.  I can split the images/programs between the two separately. when I connect to the same monitor via the mini-display port using a converter to plug the HDMI connector, the best I can do is duplicate the PC screen or have the PC screen pushed over to the monitor and the laptop screen becomes the extended one.   I can't get the PC screen to be primary and the external monitor to be secondary. I have tried the various options using "Display" and "Screen Resolution" but none allow me to create the scenario described above. Any suggestions? thanks

Answer:W530- connecting an external monitor via mini-display port

Do you have an external video card (K1000M or K2000M) or are you using built-in internal onboard graphics?

Hi,

I have a T450s and since I updated to Windows 10 I don't get anything out of the mini-display port. I have tried installing all new drivers and updating the BIOS per Lenovo's support website but I still can't get an external display to work over the mini-display port. Please provide a solution to this problem!
