X1 Carbon / ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock: Issues with connecting with more than one Dock

Question: X1 Carbon / ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock: Issues with connecting with more than one Dock

Hello fellow users / Lenovo, In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work. However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with. Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel. Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal. It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly. Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.  Everything worked great under Windows 8.1.  I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue.  Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock.  For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable".  If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps.  For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop.  I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device.  All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyo... Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Answer:ThinkPad Pro Dock, ThinkPad Ultra Dock, or ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock - External Monitors

The X230 can support this configuration from memory.

Hello,I think of buying the ThinkPad T400 with one of these docking stations: ThinkPad Advanced Dock or ThinkPad Dock II.I have several technical questions and haven't found neither appropriate information, nor the way to get it.Here are my questions:1. Do these docking stations support DVI when T400 with integrated (not discrete) graphics is connected? 2. Where can I find a complete list of UltraBay devices supported by each one of these docking stations? Thanks

Answer:T400 with docking stations, ThinkPad Advanced Dock and ThinkPad Dock II

I have a T400 with integrated graphics and recently purchased the Advanced Mini Dock 250410U.  The Advanced Dock and Advanced Mini Dock support DVI pass-through.  I looked into this before purchasing as well. This page will confirm the feature:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-72148.  Also see reference guide for docking stations: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4TPJF4 which says ThinkPad Dock II is discontinued.  This brochure says the Advanced Mini Dock does not support Ultrabay, but the Advanced Dock does.  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options_iso/tp_docking_solutions_june09.pdf .

wait doesent' the docking station come with own power supply? if so then use that and not the laptop one since i'm quite sure it comes with own AC adapter so it can handle charge of laptop and powering the dock.

Got my X1 carbon, like it don't love it.  However using it on our wired network I'm getting around 20MB speeds copying files and my carbon becomes very copy when doing large 2GB file type copies. On my T420s with a "real" docking station I get around 150MB speeds copying the same file. No errors on our Cisco switches, seem speeds are locking in fine.  Is that simply the best I'm going to to over the USB 3.0 connecting to the SS port?  I can almost live with slow speeds but copy video during copies, no way. Am I missing something, doing something wrong, or this is what it is?  Sure hope not...

Having the exact same problem. Files that transfer instantly on other computer take upwards of 40-60 seconds on the X1 through the USB 3.0 dock.  We are using the most recent dock drivers as well as the most recent usb 3.0 drivers, so not sure what could be causing this problem. Thanks

Hi I'm experiencing some problems with the combination of the Thinkpad Carbon X1 gen 2 machine and the onelink dock. The problem is basically that the X1 doesn't detect properly when the pc is detached from the onelink - and the other way around is the same (assuming that the pc hasn't been shutdown in the meantime). Anyone has experienced this or have suggestions for solution(s) I'd be happy to hear from you. Just some facts here: I have run a full system update and installed the onelink software package on the X1. Kind regards Thomas

I hooked the one Acer monitor directly to the monitor port, and it works perfectly.  I then hooked the other through a Triton SS2 Extreme UV200 External DVI/VGA Video Card as was recommended for me to do so.  The Triton has a USB plug which I then connected to one of the USB ports on the back of the docking station, and loaded the software.  Everything worked great but the 2nd monitor screen enlarges everything.  So I though I could just go into the control panel and adjust that monitors settings.  However, the system is only recognizing the monitor in the monitor port of the docking station.  In the connection directions, it says the 2nd monitor has to be connected to the other USB port that is not standard and is on the far left of the back of the dock with an emblem the has 2 "+" signs stacked on each other followed by a bold "D" (I think).  I have tried to see if there is an adapter to convert the standard USB to fit this other port, and no one has been able to help me.  Does anyone have any recommendations, idea's or knowledge of how to work through this?  Thanks.

Answer:Help with connecting dual monitors to the THinkPad Mini Dock 3 for my ThinkPad T 510

that is the Displayport, which can be converted to a DVI or VGA port using an appropriate adapter. But there is no USB adapter for the Displayport, as they use a different technology.

I'm trying to image a second generatoin X1 Carbon that also has a OneLinkPro dock attached via SCCM 2012 R2.The USB stick is plugged into the dock, as is Ethernet & power. When I boot into the preinstallation environment, I don't have an IP address. The USB stick is fine - works on all 26 other devices hereThe network cable is fine - I'm able to get an IP & image from other systemsI tried two OneLinkPro docks, same problem on bothIf I use the Ethernet adapter, it works fineI'm convinced its a driver issue at this point. I was directed to www.lenovo.com/onelinkdrivers to locate OneLink dock drivers, and I've downloaded the package. The downloaded EXE (tp_onelink_dock.exe) extracts to C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock by defaultIn C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock you have another EXE Setup_OneLink_Dock_Lenovo_v10826.exeThis immediately launches an installshield setup (run from %temp%)There no options to extract the drivers - it just installs the drivers, and none of the switches I've thrown at it have yielded any results.I found a data1.cab file but I can't seem to extract anything with 7Zip or expand How are folks with second gen X1 Carbons who use SCCM for OSD successfully imaging those machines with the OneLinkPro dock? (without the use of the Ethernet adapter of course.)

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2nd+OneLinkPro Dock = No IP Address During Imaging (OSD) via SCCM 2012 R2

Fauxlution:Install drivers on an x86 machineNavigate to C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Onelinkdock (or something like that)Grab the driver directories & save them elsewhereRepeat process for x64 machine because the installer will only install drivers for the architecture of the system its run on.  (x86 system = x86 drivers; x64 system = x64 drivers)Clean up the drivers (extra non-essential files in there)Import both sets of drivers into SCCMBake architecture specific Realtek drivers into boot imageCouldn't be simpler.

Hello to everyone, I have a very strange problem.I've purchased X1 carbon together with OneLink PRO dock. The problem I have, is that only thing I can use OneLink together is external monitor.USB ports does not work at all, there is no voltage at output, ethernet does not work too.Button on top also works and I can put carbon to sleep and wake him up from sleep.Other stuff does not work. I noticed that dock gets veery hot after 2-3 minutes when connected to power, as well as power supply for it, even if computer is fully charged.I also noticed that red led should be on if dock is active but it is not. I mean RED led on I letter of "ThinkPad". Is there a possibility that I received blown and not working dock from Lenovo?

You can use MSconfig to diagnose startup issues. Visit the following link for details;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iku_aPUsVQ4

You can post back with any questions regarding your system services and startup entries to establish their purpose and whether or not they are required at startup.

Taskbar icons are just shortcuts and do not effect the time it takes for starting a computer.

My laptop isn't charging when I plug the adaptor in to the back of the dock.  When I'm on the dock with the adaptor plugged into the laptop, if  I hover over the green battery icon in the system tray, it tells me I should plug in the dock: "AC power is detached from your docking station.  For proper battery charging and docking station operation, connect the AC adaptor to the docking station." I'm not supposed to use two separate power adaptors, am I? (One for the dock and one for the laptop)?I think I might have a bad dock.

Answer:Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - Do I have to plug in both the dock and the laptop, or just the dock?

No, you only need to plug the dock in. When I remove the AC adaptor from my dock, the dock stops working completely -- display port shuts down and the green light next to the dock's power button turns off. Do you have a 90 watt adaptor plugged into the dock? It sounds like you have a bad dock or docking connector.

Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? Google and I'm running out of ideas..

And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub

I finally received my ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock today after a long delivery time from order. The basic USB 3.0 functions fully work, but I'm having some issues with the software that is supposed to control the dock for audia and video. In addition, Smart Audio will fail to initialize if I have the USB audio adapter enabled in the control panel (see below):

The user guide states that the control icon should be in the notification tray, but it is never there unless I first go to devices, right -click on the dock icon, and then select "Check for Updates" The icon will then appear for a brief time and then vanish. No setting of the tray customizations will keep it visible. This appears to be a bug. Also, the installation instructions are flawed in that the system will pick up the drivers from Windows Update BEFORE you get a chance to load from the supplied driver CD. The correct installation is to first load the CD, install the software, and THEN connect the USB cable for the dock.

Has anyone else had experience with the W520 and this dock? It is a slick hardware package for certain. I'd just like to get the control software setup to where it should be enabled.

FYI, here is the PCI tree for the setup:

Thanks

Answer:W520 and ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock (A033970) - Issues

Update:

The system has a connectivity problem with the Plextor PX-LB950UE External BD Writer when the drive is connected to the W520 via USB 3.0 port either directly to the system or via the docking solution. The unit is an AC powered device with either eSata or USB 3.0 interface.

Sometimes the system will just hang (using the USB 3.0 interface) before the Windows 7 logon screen, sometimes the system comes up, but the drive is missing. Always, if I power the drive on after the system is fully operational the drive will be recognized and work normally. It almost seems that the USB 3.0 driver is not resetting the port properly and thus the drive gets its interface hosed until a power-on reset. All works properly until the next time when the system is restarted. The unit is running its latest firmware.

I am using the latest Renesas USB 3.0 drivers (2.1.32.0) but no joy. Anyone seen a similar issue?

On another note, my USB 3.0 external HDD (WD Passport) is not recognized when booting via the Norton Ghost 15 system recovery disk. (Ihave to use the USB 2.0 port to perform restores). It does work propery under Windows 7, however. I wonder if the BIOS is not properly dealing with the USB 3.0 ports.

I can confirm that Dell Display Manager is not good with my config also - OneLink (basic) connected to Dell U2412M via DVI.  Can't tell the difference compared to direct connection to laptop though (don't have miniHDMI adapter). @SFsix, sorry about this offtopic question, but do you have any problems with random disconnection/connection of OneLink Pro from TPY, more specifically for Ethernet and USB interfaces. More details here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 it's a pretty long thread already but in brief all users of OneLink basic non-Pro (myself included) report this problem for constant disconnect and re-connect of OneLink interface. So we were wondering if OneLink Pro users experience this problem... Will appreciate your feedback.

Hi there, I have an E450 with Windows 7 64-bit Professional, Enabled and Activated TPM on the BIOS, Enabled BitLocker and waited for encryption to complete.  Few restarts and all working fine. I have installed the latest drivers and firmware for the OneLink Pro, as of today 8/20/2015, from the support website. When I connect the OneLink Pro all works fine, NIC, Video, USB, but then when I restart the machine BitLocker kicks in asking for the Password as if the hardware had changed.  Once enter the password it boots into Windows fine but after each restart it will ask again.  Until you disconnect the docking station then following restart is ok no prompt. I've tried some recommendations like suspending and resuming BitLocker while the docking station is connected and it works, after a restart no prompt for password, but when you disconnect the docking and restart it prompt for the password again and again until you connect the docking or suspend/resume bitlocker. Now, I have an exact configuration with a X1 Carbon 3rd generation, doing exactly the same steps and at the end with the OneLink Pro connected or not when restarting it does not prompt for BitLocker password. Finally, we tested the E450 with the older USB 3.0 DOCK and it worked just fine, connected/restart no BitLocker, disconnected/restart no BitLocker. I was on the phone with Lenovo support for 1 hour and 30 minutes, they kept transfering me from the Hardware dept to... Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 and a T410. After not using the dock for ~3 months while I was away from home, I re returned and attempted to use it only to find that there were several connectivity issues with it: 1) The DVI connection does not work at all.2) The DisplayPort connection requires me to fiddle with it every time to get my T410 to recognize it.3) The audio jack is only giving me sound from my left speakers. This is really frustrating, particularly how I have to fiddle with the DisplayPort connection every time, because I have 2 external monitors. Has anyone run into these issues before? Thanks!

I have a user with a ThinkPad Yoga S1 and a OneLink dock (NOT the pro version).  Periodically when she plugs it into her PC the network connectivity doesn't connect.  generally this requires reseating and restarting the computer for it to come up.  it's on the most recent firmware, though there is a bios update for the yoga.  I have 4 of these configurations all used by C-level managers at our company.  One other has reported similar issues in the past but they seem to have subsided as of late.  Are there any known issues related to this, or anyone else experiencing similar?

I recently purchased a ThinkPad Yoga with a OneLink Dock Pro. I am having one issue. When I plug the laptop into the one link I get a constant device disconnect sound over and over until I reboot. This happens most frequently when the device goes into sleep mode NOT attached to the dock and I then attach the device to the dock and wake the device up. It happens in other scenarios too but this scenario causes it almost 100% of the time. It is extremely annoying.  In addition, this scenario also causes my HDMI sound (through my Asus monitor) to not work and switching play devices in Windows 8.1 doesn't work until I reboot. Once I reboot, the annoying sound goes away and my sound devices all work. There seems to be a few one-off scenarios that cause this to happen as well but none I can pinpoint just yet. Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix?

Answer:Issues with ThinkPad Yoga and OneLink Dock Pro - device constantly "disconnects"

Unfortunately, you are not alone.  The combination TPY with OneLink and OneLink Pro is not (yet?) a stable marriage. See, for example, this very long discussion thread (22 pages, >210 posts, 3 months, and counting...):http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 Lenovo has still (after 3 months!!) not provided a fix for this issue. In the above thread some workarounds have been posted, which seem to work for some. See Page 15 and page 22, for example. Lenovo is really dropping the ball on this one.

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Just got a new X1 Carbon.  Love the laptop (though memory utilization on this thing is high).  I'm not a fan of the USB Dock.  The position of the USB 3 port on the laptop and the USB 3 cord to the dock get in the way of using a mouse, and really clutters the desktop with all the power cords and USB cable.  I've had a couple issues with it also.  1)  Lost network connectivity.  A couple times now, I'll be working away, and Windows shows "Unidentified Network" and I can't get to anything.  ipconfig /renew doesn't correct it.  I power off the dock and power it back on and the network comes back. 2)  USB Wireless Mouse.  With the USB receiver plugged into the dock, mouse behavior is erratic.  I'm using a Logitech.  My boss experienced the same issue with a Lenovo wireless mouse, and reverted back to a corded mouse.  I moved my USB receiver to the laptop USB port and mousing works just fine.  I've double checked that I'm using all the latest drivers for the mouse and the dock, and system update doesn't have any drivers to offer me.

For your first problem, get a right angle USB adapter. I bought one of these:http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181004002735?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3782wt...I haven't received it yet, but no reason it shouldn't work. I'm pretty sure I've bought the right direction. The picture looks correct. They also have "left angle" ones which are still right angles - they just bend the other way.

Hi, Is it possible to turn on the X1 carbon when plugged into the dock without opening the lid?  I don't see a way.  I have configured it to not sleep when plugged in so that you can open it turn it on and close it.  Is the dock supposed to supply power or does the laptop need to have the AC adapter plugged in to charge? Does it matter what port I plug the dock into?  The SS USB 3.0 port doesn't seem to work with it.  No mouse or keyboard and the monitors keep switching between the laptop and the externals.

Answer:X1 Carbon and USB Dock 3.0 questions

you have to turn on the laptop by pressing the on/off button on the laptop, the usb dock on/off switch doesn't control the power state the laptop. Dock needs its own power supply. You would need to use the USB 3.0 port if you are going to use the 2 x DVI ports and higher speed transfer rate for your usb ports on the dock.

Hi, I have several X1-Carbons that will not go to screen saver when attached to the USB 3.0 dock. All systems are running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. Latest drivers from System Update. We have tried changing PM settings but still stays active on dock. Off dock all systems respond as expected. The problem is my company has a 15 minute lockout policy based on the screensaver. Since the X1-Carbon does not comply we need to find a solution. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks, Ray Laureyns

Really odd issue I'm seeing, I've never seen before, Unable to get the usb and dock ports working on a new X1 Carbon laptop we deployed at my Company. Reinstalling Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Driver will cause the dock to immediately be recognized (Everything Works). Upon Reboot, Laptop will no longer recognize dock, its shown as detached, also USB keyboard and mouse will also no longer be recognized even if plugged directly into laptop. Or, with no reboot, the Dock and USB ports will just randomly shut off and no longer work. Other laptops work fine with the dock, so its not a dock issue. Anyone have any ideas? ----- All critical Windows updates Applied. Updated All Drivers to most current version. Updated BIOS to most current version. Updated Pro Dock Software to most current version. Updated Lenovo Solution center to most current version. Not seeing anything that jumps out in the event viewer. Ran Hardware Diagnostics Again, Everything Passed.

I just received a Dell UP2516D 3K display which works great when directly connected to the mDP port of the laptop. When connecting the same screen to the DP port on the dock, the screen detects the cable connection, but never receives any signal. I'm using the mDP to DP cable which Dell shipped with the screen. I was able to detect the firmware version of the dock using the 1.0 firmware updater. It has version 2.24.00 installed. My laptop has the latest Intel Graphics drivers installed (20.19.15.4331) from Lenovo, the latest driver for the Onelink Pro dock (1.08.36). I first thought the issue was with the cable, but connecting the screen and the dock with a high quality 1.2 DP cable doesn't change anything. The screen works fine when connected directly to the laptop and it too has the latest firmware installed. Defective dock? I may try it with a diffrent screen on next week by taking the device to work, but I was hoping it would "just work". Any thoughts?

I am having display problems inserting my w550s in and out of the Ultra Dock with dual connected monitors.  I have to reboot the PC when I insert or remove to get it to display correctly.  When I boot, it displays correctly in either mode. i.e. if I boot it up outside the dock, then the built in display looks correct, but when I insert it into the dock and it switches over to the dual monitors, The Icons and text are huge.  If I boot it up while inserted in the dock, then it displays correctly on the dual monitors, but when I remove it, icons and text are really small.  This requires me to perform a restart every time I insert or remove my w550s from the dock.  Not very useful. Any suggestions to resolve this issue?

I'd like to know how to wake a T520 connected to Mini Dock (type 4338). I have a basic USB mouse (wired) connected directly to the dock.  I've verified all of the items in Device Manager (mice and USB ports) are enabled for "waking the computer".In the article below, Lenovo says it's not possible to wake it by connecting directly to the dock....they say it's "not a limitation of the dock"... but "by design". There have been a few posts on Monitor issues - But I think I can shed some light... Hardware:Updated Ultra Dock Severial T440 and T440s (win 8.1)3 External Monitors (VGA, DVI, DisplayPort)1 USB monitor If I leave the unit for a bit, it goes to sleep / screen saver (even tho disabled in windows) - When I wake it, ONLY my USB monitor comes up.  If I don't have the USB monitor on, the issues looks like my machine has hung. Since I have USB I can load the monitor settings (Windows)  - and for each Monitor on the dock, in the pull down beside 'Multiple Displays:' I get 'disabled'.   If I flick each one back to extend, the monitors all come back on.  Now after being in the dock - when I go to power up standalone, the internal monitor turns off,  I need to Hard reset to get it back on (Hold Power button). I will test taking it out of dock and plugging in the USB monitor to see if that makes a difference.

Answer:T440 Ultra Dock - after being in dock - internal Monitor does not work - USB does - disabled

I pulled my unit out of the dock - powered up and the display goes blank (if you look carefully you can see the bios boot screen, then black, then you can see the backlight turn off. I plugged in the USB monitor and boom - I could log in. Once Logged in I could see that windows still thinks it has some of the monitors from the dock, and the internal display is set to disable. So the issue is the detection / setup of monitors in/out of the dock. I've done about all I can do for dubugging, I hope lenovo can pick up from here. if not I'll have to call lenovo support.

I want to use the USB 3.0 Dock to boot up SCCM winpe (on a USB Flash Drive) to build the X1 Carbon. If I understand, you are concerned that the OneLink Pro dock will overcharge the battery, which will reduce battery life? The battery is designed to prevent overcharging, so although the OneLink Pro dock is used and the meter shows fully charged, the battery is not being charged continuously.

I just received my X1 Carbon 3rd gen.  8Gb Memory, I7-5600U, 512Gb SSD (PCIe), 2560x1440 WQHD non-touch screen, and OneLink Pro Dock.  Things seem to be running smoothly the 3rd time I reloaded the O/S from the recovery partition and set up the machine and Windows 8.1 with the software I needed.  There are three anomolies that occur when I boot the machine by itself, after shutting it down while on the docking station and removing it completely. 1) One out of two times I boot the machine the trackpoint doesn't work; the touchpad works fine.  Half the time the trackpoint doesn't work, the buttons do.2) When un-docked and I open Firefox portable, or File Manager, or a number of other applications, the size of the window(s) look about the same (proportionally) as it does on the Samsung 24" 1920x1200 while using the docking station.  However, Internet Explorer (v11) is sized about half of it's proportional size.  So, on the docking station the IE window would be 11.5" x 9" (as would Firefox portable) and would change to 2.5" x 2.5" on the un-docked X1 screen, while Firefox would retain its proportional size (maybe something like 7" x 5.5").3)  I've altered the"Change the size of all items" on the Samsung on the docking station to "Smaller" (far left on the slider).  It's set to "Middle" (middle of slider) for the undocked screen.  On the undocked screen the text is fine everywhere but icons are really small. The main problem ... Answer:Carbon X1 4th Gen OneLink Dock Issue

The Onelink dock doesn't connect to USB, "Onelink" is lenovo's special dock/accessory port.  For a 4th gen, it should be Onelink+, which is a thin port about 1" wide located next to the power port on the left edge of the laptop.  That said, if the laptop says the dock is connected even though you don't have a onelink+ dock and have never connected one, there is definitely something wrong.  I'd probably suggest calling Lenovo support, and/or exchanging it for a different laptop through your reseller.

I recently purchased the X1 CRBON 5TH Gen (2017)...type 20HR plus a thunderbolt dock.I connected them together with a Dell 28" 4K (@30Hz) screen (p2815q) connected through DisplayPort from the dock, plus a Microsoft keyboard and Jabra 510 USB speakerphone.Using the Windows 10 stock image from Lenovo, plus Office 2016, Chrome, Visual Studio, Skype,  and various other apps (putty, RDP, SAP GUI, others) the video performance was atrociously bad. Alt-Tab, which I use heavily would take 3-4 seconds to respond, switching between applications, Windows would freeze and sometimes crash, I would often get blank or black windows in Chrome and Office. This was on the embedded Thinkpad screen as well as the external monitor.I ensured Windows Update was up to date, as well as Bios, Drivers etc through the Lenovo companion app. So...I dove into the BIOS and voila! There is a switch that lets me change the Video memory from 256 to 512 MB allocated!I went to change it, and it would not change until I changed the setting:BIOS > Config > Thunderbolt 3 > Security Level = from "User Authority" to "DisplayPort and USB"I switched that setting, and then set my video memory to 512 MB, rebooted and voila! Problem solved. I worked that way for a little while, took it into my office and plugged it back into my Thunderbolt 3 dock and while my video and LAN connections worked...my wireless keyboard (USB dongle), and Jabra 510 did not. Whenever I turn on one of our new 4th X1 laptops through the onelink+ dock I can't get any display on either of my screens (external and on the laptop). On some of them I'm able to enter our harddrive pwd, and then nothing happens, all screens go black, and nothing but the kill switch can get back the display. The monitor(s) do not go into power saving mode. This is on Windows 7 x64, with a std. clean image, and using the latest sccm driver package from Lenovo website + latest dock Onelink + dock driver. The issue also occurs on a manual clean install, using systemupdate to install all drivers.

I recently bought a X1 Yoga as a personal laptop to compliment my Gen 3 X1 Carbon. I istakenly thought the onelink dock would be indentical, only to find they use different ports. From what I can tell, Lenovo does not sell a converter cord. Has anyone run into this issue? Am I stuck having two docks on my desk or should I just convert to a generic USB doc (non-Lenovo)?

Hello anybody, I got the brand new Carbon X1 with i7-5600U and OneLink Pro couple days ago and I have issues ever since.I have 2 main issues. 1. Laptop alone works like a charm, but when I connect the laptop to oneLink I can't get an image on my second exterior display via dvi nor via vga. The computer finds the screen and name etc, but when I want double or extend or only screen 2 projection nothing happens on the external screen. It keeps saying no input. I have tried to reinstall dock driver, change resolution, updated even bios, still nothing happens. 2. This problem is even more disturbing. If my computer is turned off or restarted while connected to OneLink dock pro, it won't start and freezes at lenovo logo. If I pust laptop to sleep while conected it boots normaly, if i turn it off not connected, then connect it and start it also boots normaly. But when it is shut down while conected it doesn't. Not even if i turn it off while connected, unplug it and turn it on. I have to do reset in this case. Guys I really need help, since those issues make my dock almost completly useless.HELP! Tilen_T

Hi tilen_t, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

First, have you run the Onelink Pro Dock firmware update?

Answer:rocket dock or object dock? pros cons?

Hi Billy,

I don't know why, but I've always used ObjectDock and I've been perfectly happy with it. I don't use any dock software now though as I found I wasn't using it enough to make it worthwhile having - it was just annoying me when I wanted to click things towards the bottom of my screen.

They're both free, so I'd suggest trying ObjectDock and if you don't like it, try RocketDock

They both have a wide range of skins/icons available, so in my eyes, they're evenly positioned.

Hello, just got a new T400 at work. I know this issue was common with the R60...however I figured this would be resolved with the T400.  After PROPERLY undocking my T400 (Start -> undock -> wait for notification and green light).....  I go off to my meetings, etc and all is well with the world. When re-dock the machine, the USB keyboard and Mouse (and sometimes the monitor) will not re-engage.  Sometimes I get the monitor...and no keyboard and mouse. Any ideas on this? Kind of frustrating because I usually have to re-boot (or unplug the mouse/keyboard/ monitor from the dock and plug them directly into the laptop...which defeats the purpose of the dock). Appreciate the help!Robert

Answer:New T400 - Mini Dock USB Ports not working after hot dock

i have the same problem with a R60 and advanced minidock (winXP SP3). it worked for three years now, but since about one month, when returning to dock, my USB mouse only works in about one of five cases. monitor-usb same problem. keyboard is an old PS/2, this always works. i need to plug the mouse directly to the R60, then it is recognised and works as expected. i do driver updates quite regular, so maybe one of the last drivers have a bug?

Hi  I have a problem with dispplay settings on my T530 with nvidia 5400m. If i Boot the computer in the docking with lid closed I get two displays (fine!). If I boot the computer with lid open in dock i get all black screens (three) but i can move the mouse in between the screens. (all three are acting as thre individuals, no clones) If i boot without dock it also appears as a black screen. However here I can go into bios and change to intel graphics card and then it displays and works on the integreated display.  So I probably need a way to change the settings for undocked devise using nvidia so that I donęt need to access BIOS in order to make it work.

I have a Dell XPS 15 and a Dell Dock WD15 which has been working fine for a long time but recently the WD15 dock has been acting up after it is re-docked to the laptop.
Everything works fine if I start the laptop with the dock plugged in but after re-docking the USB ports and Network (cabled) stops working. Everything seems fine with the drivers and as said it only happens after re-docking.
I've tried to rollback drivers and even downgrade the FW on the dock but the problem remains. The only way to "fix" it seems to be to restart the laptop after re-docking.
Running Win10 64-bit.
Any suggestions?

Sometimes when I connect the Onelink connector from the Onelink+ dock, the ethernet port is not detected.  The monitor shows up and usb ports function but there is no local area connection listed in the netword adapters.  If I disconnect the Onelink connector from the X1 and reconnect it, then suddenly the local area connection shows up and is there until the next time I redock the Onelink+.   Is this a known bug?  Anyone else having this problem? This is on Windows 7 x64 with all the latest drivers installed from the Lenovo website.

Hello, I bought a X1 gen2 and a onelink pro and noticed that the DVI port does not seem to work with a DVI cable. It only works with the supplied VGA to DVI adapter. Is this correct and it will not work with just a normal dvi to dvi cable?I also tried a VGA to Displayport and it made the X1 constantly detect and undetect the monitor making the screen just flash and windows detect sound. I have also updated all drivers using the lenovo updater and bios. Also updated the Dock with newest firmware.

The hdmi port on the OneLink port is hdmi 1.3 only, so it doesn't support qhd resolution. You should get the OneLink pro dock with its integrated displayport.

I just got a OneLink docking station for my X1 Carbon which was recently updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. It seems that in order to use the monitors I hooked up to my docking station I need to keep the X1 Carbon's clamshell open which doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't I be able to keep it shut with the monitor off and still be able to use the laptop via the docked monitors?

We have one setup with 2 Dell 24" Ultrasharp monitors (U2412M) using the display port and DVI port.  The fact that I couldn't get native resolution of the screens when having dual monitors is strike one but I understand.  If you only have 1 of them i would get native resolutions with the display port. Anyways I had problems with the machine crashing and always when docked.  I made sure the dock had the latest firmware and that the driver was also updated.  It crashed so much that eventually the hard drive got corrupted.  It kept showing NTFS errors so Lenovo replaced the drive for me.  I was really crossing my fingers hoping the drive was bad in the first place thus all my problems. Nope it still crashes! So disapointed because the client loves her laptop but just can't use it with the onelink pro dock.Anyone have a similiar experience or recommendations?  I already have the latest drivers too.

Hello all. Just received a new X1 Carbon Touch i7/8GB. Works great standalone, however when I add the USB 3 dock with external monitors, the monitors have an annoying artifact; It is most noticeable as a subtle flicker in any white portion of a window that occurs any time the window is updated. It seems to be worst when scrolling black text on a white background. Also very noticeable in any vertical lines in a window, as they will seem to "jump" back and forth horizontally as you scroll. The effect is very distracting. I've tried replacing the USB 3 Dock, but didn't make a difference. I've tried the latest drivers from the DisplayLink website, no change. I've tried multiple resolutions with both dual and single monitors, but that doesn't seem to make much of a difference, either. I've read a comment in another forum from someone experiencing similar symptoms, but the response they got from another use was that this is normal compression artifacts for DisplayLink adapters running over the bandwidth-constrained USB3 interface. However, I find this hard to believe as these artifacts are very visible and I can't imagine most users would find them acceptable. Plus, I'm not running my monitors anywhere near the max resolution for the adapter, so I can't imagine I should be anywhere near a bandwidth limitation that would trigger compression artifacts. And, for the most part, HD videos seem to play fine, which seems like they would be much more demanding. Anyone else e... Read more

Hello, I purchased two external monitors to connect with my X1 Carbon, 1 through the Onelink Dock and the second directly to the laptop's HDMI port. My problem is when I connect the two external monitors only one of them gets detected. For example, the monitor that is connected through the OneLink dock gets detected by the laptop and functions properly; however the second monitor that is connected directly to the laptop does not get detected so I am unable to use it. If I disconnect the OneLink dock (which one of the monitors is connected to) then that monitor obviously disconnects and the other monitor that is connected directly to the HDMI port on the laptop gets detected and connects. Both external screens are connected via VGA to HDMI.  If anyone has encountered this problem before or has a solution so I can run both external monitors simultaneously that would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

I use the Displaylink dock to connect to an external monitor, but it has suddenly stopped working.  The error message said "check connections".  I have done so - replaced the digital video cable between dock and monitor with a new one, cycled both dock and monitor on and off several times, but windows can not find an external display. The Lenovo settings app has been giving me an "updating... " message for 3 days (I have raised a query on that elsewhere) so I can't use that to check out the display problem.  I should say the display problem started today, and the "updating.." problem has been going on for three daysthank you

I want to record the audio from another PC's Windows Media Player by plugging its LINE OUT to the X1 Carbon's OneLink Pro Dock LINE IN (Headset/microphone combo connector).  I know that this PC's LINE OUT works because I can plug either earphones into it or external speakers and this works for me. Setting the Enable for the external Microphone under the recording tab the Sound dialog box of the Hardware and Sound of the X1's Control panel does not do it.  Even if the X1's embedded microphone is disabled, this also does not work for me. I can record sound via the X1's embedded microphone, but I want to record via the LINE IN of the OneLink Pro Dock. I have the latest Windows 8.1 updates and I have the latest OneLink Pro Dock software installed, Version 1.08.31. Thanks, JW

Hello Everyone, I am new here so please go easy on me.I just bought and X1 Carbon 5th Gen laptop c/w Thunderbolt 3.0 docking station. The problem that I have is that the docking station won't recognise any of the external screens that are connected.I am using two Acer screens (one is connected using HDMI port on the dock and the other one uisng Display port).I have tried by connecting just one screen but nothing.I can see that Thunderbolt software is installed and its connected to my laptop. The laptop will charge through the docking station and also the wireless mouse and keyboard will work fine through the dock.Lenovo recommended that i should update my drivers. So I installed Lenovo Companion from Windows store. But it won't update my system. After clicking on System Update, I will get an error message saying "There is a problem in reteriving new updates for your system. Please try again later".Hence I downloaded all the drivers from support website and installed them manually but my docking station is still not working with the external monitors. The monitors works fine when connected directly to the laptop using the HDMI cable. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,I just got a X1 Carbon 20HR, and the ThinkPad USB-C Dock with it. The issue is, that when I use the dock and have it connected to my external monitor [Samsung LU28E85] then the mouse is lagging a bit - but enough to annoy me and make it harder to reach the right buttons.... This is both when I use a cabled mouse, as well as via Bluetooth or the Logitech connector. I would say thoug, that the cabled mouse seems to perform a little better than the wireless connections. When not in the dock and working on the screen of the laptop, there are no issues with any of the mice at all. There also seem to be a bit of lack with the keyboard entries...... Any advice?I was wondering if it can be the dock which is "underpowered" and should have been the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock instead? I have you can help Kind regardsLasse

Answer:X1 Carbon 5th Gen 20HR - mouse lag when using External display via DOCK

I have the same issue.I'm using laptop screen + 2x 4k screens, meaning I can only use 30hz on my 4k screens.30hz causes noticebly mouse lag. With only one external screen, you can probably increase your screen refresh rate, which should resolve your issue.

We have a few Lenovo displays we are replacing and wanted to get some USB-C displays for our few MacBook Pro users, but also work with our OneLink Pro & Ultra Docks. Ultra Dock works great with DisplayPort & HDMI. The MacBook Pro's work great with USB-C and Apple's USB to ethernet gets us all set there. The issue is the X1 (gen 3) with OneLink Pro dock. When we setup the dock with DisplayPort it shows the display is connected in the Display Properties, along with resolution and extended desktop, but the display itself shows nothing and has an orange light. We tried 3 different docks and laptops, 2 different P24h displays, and 3 different DisplayPort cables. Confirmed both the display and dock support DisplayPort 1.2. Any idea on what I can do to get this going? So far this is the best display we could find that covers all our bases for our needs.
