Lenovo x230 battery drains quickly in sleep mode; power management center won't run

Question: Lenovo x230 battery drains quickly in sleep mode; power management center won't run

I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned. Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. I've done so, be it doesn't seem to have helped. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode. At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops. Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 10 month old X230 with a 6 cell 44+ battery. I am finding that it seems to drain quite quickly - more so than when it was new. I am getting about 2.5 hours of use - and am also noticing that when in sleep mode, it seems to drain quite a bit. Overnight last night it went from a full charge - to 91% just while on sleep - nothing was used or running. I am running Win 7 Home Premium, have a USB (not Bluetooth) mouse attached that I turn off before sleep, screen brightness on around 8. Any suggestions on what to check or change woud be appreciated. Thanks!LH

Answer:X230 Battery drains quickly

1. If you have installed Lenovo Power Manager application launch it and under the Battery tab look at the Cycle Count parameter.2. Which threshold parameters for battery charge are defined in the Power Manager? 3. Open command line window, type in the following string:powercfg -devicequery wake_armedLet us know about results.

Answer:Battery drains too quickly on my lenovo g505s

Hi Rohitupadhaya,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understood that you are facing the issue with the battery drains too quickly in your Lenovo G505s laptop.

This issue might be due to the application with high end graphics. Try to close the all the unwanted application, try to reinstall the Microsoft ACPI.

Also try to check with other battery if available, also try to reset the battery gauge by go to start search and type power manger, select battery tab under battery tab select battery maintenance.

Under battery maintenance select perform reset under battery gauge reset option.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

I got a Lenovo 320S a few days ago and started it up plugged in. Unfortunately at 100% it says it only has like 2 hours and 15 minutes remaining. It goes through the first 20% pretty quickly but then it slows down and goes up to 4 hours or so. I just left it there for a few minutes or so at 33% and it went down to 5%. Is the battery still stuck in Ship Mode? It's supposed to last for 7 hours. I don't think I can remove the battery and I have already tried an apparent solution where you press the power button for 90 seconds with the PC turned off and then you plug it in again. That does not solve the problem. I'll need to be carrying this PC around so it's pretty urgent.

I have a HP Pavilion X2 Product Number F5W70UA#ABA. I have been having trouble since I bought this just a few short months ago. The battery drains within an hour or 2 whenever I put the machine to sleep (close the lid, put in sleep mode, etc.). I have updated the BIOS and all the latest drivers. It helped ensure I could wake up the machine, but the battery keeps draining and I am at my wits end. I have also gone through many forum postings on this issue and have run the HP Battery Test as well as checked all the power management settings and they appear to be set up properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Jim

Answer:HP Pavilion X2 Battery Drains when in Sleep Mode

Hi DontLoveWindows, From the information that you have given me, it is showing that you have 2 anti-virus softwares installed. Avast and Norton, that are continuously running when the printer is in sleep mode, which would be draining your power. It also shows that your printer has missing or misconfigured drivers which could be using power as well. Here is an HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers download for your printer. I suggest that you Disable your startup software. To do this: Right click or touch and hold the bottom left corner of the screen and select Run.Type msconfig in the Run box, and then press Enter. The MSconfig window opens. If the User Account Control window opens with the message, Windows needs your permission to continue, click or tap Continue to close the window. If Normal Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Click or tap Disable All.If Selective Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Make a list of the items that are selected. You will need this list to reset your computer startup items later.Click or tap Disable All.Click or tap Apply.Click or tap OK. A new window displays.Click or tap Res... Read more

Hi So I just bought a E540 Thinkpad, and so far the actual laptop has been fantastic. However, if I leave it unplugged and closed (in sleep mode), within 24 hours the battery drains to 0. This has never been the case with any of my previous laptops so I'm just wondering, is this a thinkpad issue? or are there some kind of settings that I need to change? Thanks in advance.

I have an X230 running W8 with both a 9-cell and a slice battery. When running on battery power alone, when the slice battery power drops to around 0% and is still attached to the laptop, even though there is 100% power in the 9-cell battery, sleep mode no longer works.  I can even try Fn+F4 or manually setting the system to Sleep using the W8 Metro command screen, but no good--the laptop just shuts off and I lose all open work, and have to restart each time.  Because of the nature of my work I cannot remove the slice battery as needed--it must remain attached even when its power is low. Note that there is only one "battery" option under Advanced Power Settings in Windows 8--and there is nothing to indicate whether that one battery is the 9-cell or the Slice.  Also note that there is no Lenovo Power Manager option in Windows 8, at least not on the X230. I am sure one suggestion is that I turn off the warnings for Low Battery under Advanced Power Settings.  But that won't work for me, because I often run down both batteries--and I have been saved many times by the W8 popup "Battery Power Less than 10%" that shows up on the screen when the slice is at 0% and the 9-cell is at <10%.  A previous post on this forum suggested downloading an Intel Firmware update, but the link to that update is for a Win 7 / Win XP software. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-Slice-battery-Sleep-problem/td-p/40577... ... Hi everyone,
I have encountered the problem that when my XPS13 is on sleep mode during the night, in the morning the battery is 10-15% or totally dead. I normally leave it at 100% or 80% so that's a lot of battery life lost. With hibernate mode on, the battery does not drain, however, I am not a fan of hibernate mode as it shortens the lifetime of the SSD and takes a longer time to start up. Normally, I don't leave any high-performance apps open during the night, it's normally only Firefox, Skype, and Word that are left open in sleep mode. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Cheers

The battery drains rapidly even when in Sleep mode.  I am seeing battery life of only about 2 hours (very disappointing) of this IdeaPad that I purchased in May.  Even worse is that putting the laptop to sleep does not conserve what charge remains on the battery.  I read another post from 2013 that said to disable fast boot mode in the power options, but I cannot find that setting to change.  Does anyone have suggestions - to increase battery life AND to keep the battery from draining while in Sleep mode? Running W8.1 with balanced power settings. Thanks.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 (Intel Core i7-6560U 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10) and have been experiencing the following issue since I purchased it: I put the laptop in sleep mode and into my laptop bag. The laptop will wake up by itself later despite the lid is closed. It then stays on as it's inside the laptop bag it gets very hot and drains the battery. Since this has happened closer to 10 times already I'm worried if the battery life is already damaged due to heating. Normally when I close the lid the laptop goes onto sleep mode.  I have already taken many measures to try and stop it from waking up from this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-windows-computer-randomly-waking/). I have set the power setting so that it should always go on sleep mode when the lid is closed. I don't understand how it goes on even when the lid is closed.  What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! Since some weeks, I'm facing a big problem with my Lumia 1520. My battery drains too quickly and when I plugged it to charge, it charged to 100% in less than 5 mins. When I take photos also with Lumia Camera, my phone reboots and the battery gets down. I already reset the phone and also use the recovery tools to flash it, but the problem is the same. Somebody can tell me if it's a battery problem or firmware?

Hey everyone,

I have Windows XP SP2 on an Acer Aspire One A110, 512MB Ram 8GB SSD, Intel Atom, 1.6GHZ Processor, 3-cell battery blah blah...

We'll i used to have 2:47 battery life etc. I have a USB Mouse but the USB is only an adapter not one of those massive hub things... I've decresed my brightness to it's darkest, muted my speakers, cut down on as most apps as possible (Firefox and MSN and ManyCam only running.) I've also applied that hotfix which was supposed to help, but no luck. When i run on battery I get 1:26...MASSIVE difference. I don't think its the battery as I put my brothers battery in and he gets 2:30 on his battery but when it was on my laptop it went to 1:57 Don't know what to do...I don't have an anti-virus EITHER because i was so mad on getting my battery life back up.

Thanks

Answer:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Hello,
I have Lumia 620 and I've just updated the firmware to Lumia Cyan& WP 8.1... After a few minor lags and glitches , the latest is very concerning. Last night my battery was 30%. Normally, it would've lasted for another 10-12 hrs normal use. But in the morning, the battery was "extinct"! What is the problem? I had to recharge it, even if before this recent update, at 30% battery, I was still able to use the phone for another half day or something. I must add, I never let the WiFi / 3G ON, location service is off, and all the background apps are disabled. My Lumia battery "taught" me these hints looong time ago.
The point is my Lumia 620 phone didn't make it thru the night, and that really bothers me. Please advice!!

Secondly it would help to reduce battery consumption by changing EMAIL sync frequency.
Lastly just make sure battery charges to Full and give some settling time.

I have the same problem with my Lenovo T510 and my new P70.   I setted the sleep mode and hibernate mode to "never" in the Power Management and even use : Performance setting and my P70 always go the sleep mode after 4-5 minutes if the computer is idle. I was able to avoid the problem with my T510 by pausing a video.  That avoid the computer to do in sleep mode (yes the workaround is stupid.. but it works). But that stupid workaround doesn't work with the P70.  If I let my computer without touching it, it will go in sleep mode.  Don't download anything while going to the bathroom. PS.  I have Windows 10 on both my computers. I asked the same question on Microsoft Windows 10 forums and got an answer that reset all the setting to the default value, but that didn't fix the issue.  And now that I have the same problems with two lenovo laptop, I'm not sure that the problem is only with Windows and more with Lenovo drivers.

I just updated from the 1.67.03xx to 1.67.04.05 (released May 20, 2014) from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032258 on my main w520 I used to get 6+ hrs on a battery (95% -> 10-15%, then i swap to another bat.) till this update. My battery now drains nearly twice as fast, with the same programs and work style. I checked, my power plan settings are unchanged, down to the fine detail, all the same as before. Anybody else? P.S. I also updated my Lenovo Settings Dependency Package for Windows 8.1 to 2.2.0.26  ... which may just as well have caused the sudden drain in stead of the suspected PWM driver of above.

With that much battery difference, there must be some run-away process hogging CPU.  Is there anything obvious showing up in Task Manager detailed view?  Sort by CPU usage and see if anything sticks out.

Hi i have HP 15 Notebook PC and i am facing problem since start that my battery drains out automatically while the PC is turned OFF or in sleep mode.. I have changed my settings and disabaled fast boot which has solved the problem to some extent but still when i use my laptop after  a day, I use to face the same problem.. same problem is very much pretinent once i turn off my PC in sleep mode.. then the battery last for only 4 to 6 hours .. Its very annoying while you are travelling and you turn off your PC with full battery and after 6 hours when you need your laptop and you find out battery is empty.. If i press power button even then no response from Laptop . I also think that may be battery is not draining out gradually , else i think it drains out all of a sudden due to some malfunchioning

I have numerous problems that arise whenever I use battery power on my SL500 with XP operating system and now also in Windows 7 after the recent upgrade. If the system goes into sleep mode either through deliberate action or by leaving inactive for 15 minutes thren after restarting the following always happens: 1.  Volume buttons stop working2.  Lenovo toolbox button stops3.  Some of the Fn buttons stop (I have not gone through all these to exhaustively check everyone)4.  When rebooting to fix this I always get a BIOS error (8603 - checksum bad) and have to restart again which causes the BIOS to revert to the default settings and everything is OK. The problem does not happen when powered by the AC adaptor.  My laptop is the 2746-N8G model.  Is this a hardware problem or driver issue?Other posts touch on some of these problems but I have not seen anyone with all the above symptoms. Thanks for any help you can give,

Answer:Problems with Sleep mode when using Battery power

this also happens to me on windows 7 32 bit. As for the checksum error...i also get that probably once a week. Not all the time.

We hooked the computer up to the TV, when we removed it the battery no longer worked, however in the power management dialogue box it shows that the battery is full. Did we change a setting? -- we did try default power management. Trouble shooting says maybe the battery surge protector was left on, turn the computer off and reset it. Does anyone know where this surge protector is on the battery? We took it apart several times, but never found a surge protector. Could there be another reason why the computer would suddenly not work with the battery after having been hooked up to a digital TV? or any other reason that could explain why the power management box shows it as having 96% despite it not working? thanks for your input!

Answer:lenovo v200; battery stopped but power management shows full

same problem but mine is a G230.Can't find how I can reset the power surge protector for my battery.Have also tried all steps of removing HDD, Wireless, RAM, Battery from the machine but no luck. Also tried to press & hold power button for 30 seconds still no luck. have ran out of solution already and unfortunately warranty expired just 1 month so very depressed.Mark, any other suggestions?

It would seem to me in order to have a completely stable system on battery. I have to set System Cooling to Active instead of Passive, and I have to set Fan Performance to Maximum Performance. Otherwise, I get system lockups on battery under load. For example:I have a VMWare Virtual Machine running in the background shuffling around drive partitions from virtual drives to a say physical SD Card with a Netflix movie playing fullscreen in HD mode in foreground. Btw, I do have the big battery. I have notice this issue with battery mode for some time now. Once I tweaked the power profiles, everything seems to work fine. I have no complants, but I thought that this might help someone else if they have similar issues. According to a full run of Intel's Diagnostic Utlility, everything is within tolerances, and it did not detect any errors.

Hello,
I have the Dell XPS 13, i5, with the Win 10 OS (64 bit) - just got it not long ago.
When I put the laptop on Sleep Mode (Either if I close the lid, or if I do it from the "Start Menu" and choose the "Sleep" option), the Laptop goes to sleep, and then wakes up immediately (after 2-3 seconds) with no apparent reason. If I immediately try to make it "sleep" again, it wakes up again after 2-3 seconds. It is like it refuses to sleep. The only way to fix it, is to restart the laptop, which sometimes fixes the problem, only until it happens again - and I notice too late when my battery is empty.
It deprives me of relying on the Sleep Mode, which is really 50% of the user experience on a SSD laptop.
How can I fix this?

Thank you

I think I may have found a fix for Lenovo ThinkPads with a hibernation drain problem.  Two things, first disable Wake on Lan within the BIOS and lastly, disable the same options for each network adapter under Device Manager.  So far so good.

Hello guys, I'm new on this forum and i hope I'll get the proper help for my problems. In May 2015 i bought a brand new Lenovo Y70 Touch laptop, first i had these problems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSy1iJ2AcrU , that problem with the lines was on windows 8.1 and also on windows 10, when i upgraded on it. I still have windows 10 installed. But that problem didn't bother me so much, so i waited for like 3 months and then decided to take it to the lenovo official service support, after one month i got it back, with a brand new motherboard. They fixed the problem, the screen is now fine. When i got the laptop back i checked it and i noticed that my battery is somehow draining ultra fast. When it's fully chargerd (100&) goes to 90% in like 10 minutes, even if i dont have any programs turned on or sth going on in a background. Charging the battery from 0-100% takes a lot longer, than the battery unplugged. So i think to myself, it's probably just not the right drivers installed for the power management. I went to your lenovo support site, and i downloaded drivers and softwares for windows 10 64bit version, they were 3 version on your site and they still are the same drivers. I installed Energy Manager and Flight Mode Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit), Lenovo battery Gauge for windows 10 (64-bit) and Lenovo energy management driver for windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit). I can extract and install normally drivers for battery gauge and energy manager and flight mode d... Read more

I bought my laptop in 2015 and unwarranted, I'd like some help to get full functionality back into my laptop. While the subject states my problem, I do have some ways of getting use out of the computer:It can turn on if the battery is fully drained and after the computer is plugged in; it takes 8 days to drain. [Pressing and holding the power button only results in the PC flashing its backlit keyboard.] The battery can recharge and the PC can run on battery just as long the PC does not shut down, go to sleep, or the lid closes.Battery removal with the PC plugged in: the PC can always turn on, but when closing the lid or shutting it off, the power cord has to be unplugged and plugged back in.Additional computer information:-Windows 8.1 with updates-Installed BIOS update and Windows hotfix update from Lenovo.com

That's crazy!!

Is this the normal behaviour?
Or, can I modify something in the BIOS in order to reduce this power drain?

Answer:Portege Z930 drains battery even when power off

Hi

Its normal if you use options like Sleep & Charge or Wake Up on LAN or Wake up on keyboard.

But this can be disabled in BIOS or in the Toshiba HWSetup Utility.

After you disabled the settings in BIOS, save the changes and reboot the unit.

Hello, I got a new T400 laptop. I use it with Windows XP. I installed the latest drivers and fixes. I observed that the computer consumes battery power during hibernation. Battery level goes down to 75% during 3 days.I already tried these steps but none of them helped:- disable "Always on USB" in BIOS- disable "Timer" function in BIOS- Wake-on LAN disabled (BIOS and device level in Windows)- disable INTEL AMT in BIOS- Wake-on Modem disabled-  powercfg -devicequery wake_armed got back NONE- there is a downloadable "powerpatch.exe" from Lenovo.. I used it as well... I also tried to remove the battery after I hibernated the computer. Next time I put it back then started the computer... everything was ok, the computer started normally and the battery level was on 100%. Any help would be appreciated. Hey all,

I'm having a little challenge for you guys I quess. It might not be that difficult, but I don't know if it is possible. Here's my situation: I've got a laptop (Acer) and when I close the screen, by default the laptop goes in to sleep mode which is a good thing. Now I'm using my laptop also as a mediastreaming device (dlna) to my blu-ray player. Now I would like to have for example a shortcut to prevent windows going in to sleep mode when I close the screen while streaming content to the blu-ray player. This to prevent that the laptop stops streaming when I close the screen. I would like to have this setting optional, so when I don't stream content to the blu-ray player, the laptop does go in to sleepmode when I close the screen. Is there a way to make this happen? By means of two shortcuts for example? 1 to prevent sleepmode and 1 to restore sleepmode to default?

I hope someone knows a way!

Kind regards,

Asterix058

Answer:Quickly change sleep mode

Hello Asterix,

As a workaround for this, you could setup two different power plans for this. Have one (ex: High Performance) set how you like when you use the computer normally, and the other (ex: Balanced) set to use for how you like when you are streaming.

Afterwards, you could use the tutorial below to create shortcuts to use to be able to easily toggle between using these power plans for this.

Hope this helps,

Try examining the "Battery Saver setting" if it is set to 40%. If yes just make an adjustment on how much you want this feature to act. Also check Energy Management if there are also adjustments there to be made.

I bought a new ThinkPad E455 two months ago with AMD processor and I use Windows 7 (64-bit) as my operating system. The problem is, since a week ago, when I turn off my laptop (completely shut-down, not hibernating nor sleeping), the battery looses 14% in less than 24 hours. This problem has never happened before. When I search for solution, apparently my problem is similar to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E535-High-battery-drain-when-laptop-is-po... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E530-Battery-drains-and-power-manager-iss... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E440-battery-drains-when-powered-off/m-p/... It appears that the power drains happened in other type of ThinkPad as well. Moreover, it seems that this problem is not limited to ThinkPad series (e.g: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2324931/laptop-battery-drains-powered-shutdown.html), and more surprisingly, some of other brands experience this condition as well. My question is, what causes the power drain? I mean, the laptop just worked fine for a period of time (in my case it is two months), if it was trigerred by something, what is it? I looked for the technical updating BIOS solution in http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077068, but unfortunately the series E455 is not in the list. Of course, updating the BIOS using incompatible version is not recommended by the technical support. Please help m... Read more

Lenovo Notebook E540 battery drains when it is not powered on. My colleague said that there is a cloud connection being connected during power off and it consumes power. Is that possible? Any resolution?

Answer:Lenovo notebook E540 Battery drains when it is not powered on

Hi Kingchechan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As far as I know only the Windows update will be accessing to the server, or might be any other 3rd party cloud related application, which might be accessing to the cloud server.

Did you check disabling USB always on in BIOS & Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS

Check running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop might be this is consuming battery power.

Best regards,

Wanted to ask if anybody has noticed a moderate difference in power usage between using W7 and W8.1 on the x230.  A base of chrome or IE running along with Outlook is the extent of open programs.  Mobile radio off, wifi on and low light keys on.  This base group was what I had going while on W7 and maintain the same for W8.1 While using W7, I was usually on the conserative side for power options and without battery stretch could typically get a good 8-9 hours before it hit rock bottom.  Of course this was primarily managed by the lenovo power software. So far in W8.1 it seems about 2 hours+ have been shaved off my previous time span and this is with battery stretch being on.  I went through the very limited power settings under the lenovo settings found from the start screen, and have also set the Windows power scheme to power saver. If I were to compare conserative with W7 settings, the power settings for W8.1 would take that term to a new definition of OCD.  At the current time, I've had the laptop unplugged for about 2.5 hours and with these minimal settings and programs running I'm almost at 50% battery (starting with 100% when unplugged).  Doing the same email monitoring and word document editing would only have taken me to maybe the mid to low 80's *maybe* high 70's% on W7.  From other various posts I do know that considerable time went into reworking the lenovo tools for W8/8.1 but for my scenario it really seems th... Answer:Difference between Lenovo battery management and lenovo enery management?

Hi gauravsc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

These version are released differently when the OS's changed from Windows 8 to 8.1

The energy management was released earlier. It has basic function from the Windows 7 Power Management.

The Energy Manager was released after the energy management, this was released on 8.1 OS
It has the same basic function as the Energy Management, Only that it has more added features like:

Screen brightness
More interactive interface
More Device Monitor like battery capacity and firmware
Battery Gauge Reset etc...

Both will surely works the same, but make sure you only have one to avoid conflicts.
If you'll ask me Ill use the energy manager for more features and setting shortcuts.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen. Both seems to all relates to sleep mode. Orange icon star shortcut, vanish once I point de mose cursor on it . Right click and run as administrator on Start/allPrograms/Lenovo.../Power management options had  same result. I sincerely believe that Lenovo wants profit from the sale of batteries and regret that I take  this laptop from Lenovo

Dear, I found some strange issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad X230 on Windows 10. When i've attached the battery, I try to shutdown, hibernate and sleep the labtop but the laptop didnt shutdown or hibernate properly. The screen is turn off, the WIFI symbol still bright, the power button light still blink and the fan still spining. i need to force shutdown by pressing the power button for 10 sec to turn everything off. On the other hand, if i take the battery off, pluged the power cord, everything will work fine. I can shutdown, hibernate and sleep. I used Lenovo Service Bridge to scan and install the lastest version of every driver. I also flashed the BIOS to lastest version. Unfotunately, the problem still persists.

I have a problem with my Lenovo laptop going to sleep a little after 1 minute if I leave it alone. Iv'e checked my power options and display options, but it still refuses to work.

This is a clean install of windows 10, also it does not matter if its plugged in or not the problem always occurs.

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

Answer:Battery Loose / Battery wiggle in x230 and LENOVO ...

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.

Hi,  a week ago I am facing with a problem - I am entering the laptop in sleep mode, just closing the screen, and when I open the screen (expecting that the laptop should wake up) it starts usual OS boot from scratch, not hibernate. How to troubleshoot? win7 x64 As I remember about 2 weeks ago I installed new VMWare player, latest power manager drivers.

Answer:x230 shuts down when return from sleep mode

Hi Barabas,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 is restarting while you try to wake it up from sleep.

Go to control panel -> Power options -> Click on choose what closing the lid does (on the left side of the window) -> Select sleep -> OK.

If the above settings are as recommended, update your BIOS and Intel Management Engine firmware to the latest versions from Lenovo Support page. Enter your MTM number in the ?Quick Path? and download the drivers.

Try reseating your memory. Try running the system with only one memory if you have multiple RAM in your system.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

New TP X230, running Win 8 Pro (clean install).I have power options set to "Do Nothing" if the lid is closed, but to put the unit to sleep if I press the Power or Sleep button. (I don't know that the computer has a sleep button, so here I am referring to the power button.)The power button works to turn the unit on, including to wake it from sleep. (So I don't think there is a hardware problem with it.)But with the computer running, if I press the sleep button nothing happens at all, although I have it set to put the computer to sleep. What might be going wrong?  (And is there a sleep button?)

Answer:Power Button won't put my X230 to Sleep!

Hi, maiki

Yes, there is a sleep button. Depending on the behavior of your Fn keys, then you will either press Fn + F4 or simply F4 to put the machine to sleep. I would try to create a new power plan and have the same settings to see if you can get the proper power button behavior.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I recently bought a new battery to replace my old one, which was old and draining rather fast. However, this new battery only shows slight improvement. Are there any sorts of drivers I could install or anything I could do to fix my battery? My battery lasts for about 1-2 hours when I do everything i can to conserve battery. Sometimes, it drains 1% or 2% in less than a minute, which adds up quickly and kills my laptop fairly quickly. If anyone could help me, it would mean so much to me.

HI guys, im purchased lenovo z5070 for 2 month ago, and my battery drained too quickly ( 4 cell, from 40710 mwh to 36010 mwh). Temperature up to 50 degrees when i playing large application, sometime i playing when charging.can anyone help me restore batttery capacity? Energy Manager says gauge reset 1 per 2 month.  I have gauge reset once, should i continue?

Answer:Lenovo Z50-70 battery drained too quickly

hi abide3012,

Welcome to the Forums.

The 40710 mWh to 36010 mWh that you're seing, are those the full charge capacity or designed capacity values when using battery monitoring softwares like BatteryInfoView. ?
    - Sample image

If it's the full charge capacity then the battery is likely not holding the charge (this could be due to the battery, the Lenovo Energy Management and/or softwares running in the background).

Things that you can try:
1. Uninstall & re-install the Lenovo Energy Management (reboot if necessary).
2. Follow this guide on how to get a Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report to check if there are apps running in the background that's eating up battery life

In addition, the battery gauge reset drains and resets the battery by doing one discharge cycle. This should allow you to take new measurements on the battery status )e.g., by using BatteryInfoView). I personally don't do this unless you're getting wrongb attery readings.

Also, looking at this Z50-70 review, the battery runtime are as follows:
Idle (without WLAN, min brightness) - 11h 12minWiFi Surfing - 4h 41minDVD - 3h 9minLoad (maximum brightness) - 1h 37min

You should be at least close to those readings when using the battery @ balanced / power saving mode.

Let me know how it goes

Regards

Every time I put my T400 into standby mode, the battery still drops quickly from 100% to 5% in two days.   The battery is still very health, full charge capacity is 59.66Wh (design capacity 56.16Wh), Cycle count is only 43. Any one has similar experience? Thanks,

Hello,

This is my first time to post a thread in this community (just bought my brand new x230 model yesterday )

Everything seems working fine, however, every time I open up the LSC(Lenovo Solution Center), it displays as below:

Link to picture
Please ignore the language (OS is Korean version).

Anyhow, the graphic seems black GUI instead of the orginal version.
It seems like something is conflicted each other...Or is it just my computer problem?

To figure out, what I tried was to delete the program and re-install it, however, it happens again (first 2 or 3 times work fine..)

Can I solve this grapih issue? D:

Hi

Please I need help... I have got Toshiba Satellite A200-1m8.
Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP3.

I noticed that the Wireless connection, running the laptop on battery power, drops and sometimes doesn't connect but plugging the power back to Normal power it easily does

I searched for similar issues and found that Intel for wireless devices does this to save battery power. I followed the instructions I found, and Wi-Fi worked well by increasing the power management in the Wi-Fi device settings ,but the main problem here is when I increase power management ,running the laptop on batteries, the computer seemingly to lose battery power quickly.

Should I change the deficient part by the manufacturer or what to do .......??

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 - battery loose power quickly

Hello

As you know the power consumption depends on notebook usage and also on power settings. I don?t know what you do exactly when your notebook runs with battery power supply but it will be interesting to know how long you can use it with battery only.

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

I noticed how quickly the battery capacity is lost. With the purchase of a laptop, the battery capacity was 90 Wh. Each cycle of charging and discharging (even when the cycle is 1/2 or 1/4) - there is a loss of 0.5 - 1 Wh.For example, there were 88 Wh. Does just one cycle of discharge and charging and the full capacity of the battery becomes 87- 87.5 Wh.Is it a battery fault or did Lenovo use so low-quality rechargeable batteries ?!

On a new laptop lenovo L520 (W7P-64b) the orange battery indicator is blinking while the battary is actually full.Power management says the battery is full showing 96 % in the large green battery icon on the task bar next to the power plug icon..The laptop is connected to AC power. The Windows icon on the taskbar shows a full battery and the power plug.Power management says the battery is charged and in a good condition and only 7 load cycles are counted. (but orange light is blinking) When disconnecting from power, the orange light still blinks, power management still shows a full battery (just removing the power plug icon)The windows icon switches to an empty battery icon. The laptop still works but after a few minutes it shuts down due to lack of power. (Note, not immediately) For other lenovo models I've seen similar issues suggesting old batteries or broken fuses. But when I shut down the computer, unplug power the light keeps blinking for a few seconds and that switches off.  When a restart a l few seconds later every thing is oke: battery full, green steady light etc.So, because a restart does not fix fuses or revives batteries I think it is a new issue. Please suggest what to do other than reboot. tia,Bert

Answer:l520 orange battery indicator blinking while battery full according to power management

hey bert520,would it possible for you to use your L520 with the battery only until it fully discharges? Once it has fully discharged, charge it back to full and during this point just charge it, do not use it.When it is completed, check if it still happens. Also could you go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-77172and download the latest Power Management software and drivers from here and do an update.
