I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Fellow Geekers,

I am really at my wits end trying to find out what is going on with my new laptop and its hardware, Its a brand new Acer Aspire V3-571G Laptop, the 2GB Dedicated NVidia GeForce 640M GPU, Alongside the normal Intel HD 4000 Display Adaptor.

Overall, I like the laptop, but I cannot seem to fix this Base System Device issue, I have gone to Acers website and downloaded EVERY driver their is, and installed every single one that is required by my system specification, however, the base system device error just wont disappear, I have tried searching high and low with google, to see if I can find anyone else with the same or similar issue, but absolutely no luck, it gets to me that much after spending countless hours and nights trying to study the problem, that I eventually have to stop, and walk away for a while and leave it alone, otherwise I will probably break the basted thing, its annoying me that much, I am just hoping its not a defective issue with the laptops mainboard or something.

Also, I cannot flash my BIOS, I tried doing that using the latest BIOS image offered by Acer for my specific model laptop, but it says its not for an BIOS Upgrade, which I don't quite understand, but I tried flashing anyway, no luck, the bios is still dated for early 2012.

I am running Windows 8 Professional (Legit Version from MS) and I have applied ALL system updates via MS Windows Update.

Does anyone know what it could be? or any suggestion on trying to fin... Read more

Seems to happen often. The error code is 28. I know I've seen a few threads pertaining to this particular error code but none of the laptops listed that I have seen are the Lenovo 3000 N200 Model number 0769 laptop that I have, and I would very much like some help with figuring out what driver I need to download. Thank you for your time.

Answer:Yet another Base System Device Driver error.

Hi MrsPandaHat and welcome to W7 Forums

With reference to the following Tutorial: Hardware Identification, the codes you provided yield the following:

Vendor 1180 = Ricoh
Device 0592 = Memory Stick Controller
Device 0843 = SD/Host Controller

Try these drivers:

Device 0592 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34665.exe
Device 0843 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45112.exe

I am really so sorry. Although I have already read all the post against the matter, I think that I have already understand the problem. Of course there is a SD card reader problem (code 28) that I can not by pass. the reason is easy to understand and that's why I am asking for help. There is no way to find out a SD drive that fits. The PC is a Vaio VGN-FW21Z with a 32bit Win7 Home Premium. I have already try several drivers Ricoh (some of them for Vista, using Compatibility installation) and no way. . Thanks a lot.

I just formatted my Dell Inspiron 640m and installed all the appropriate drivers from the Dell website. However, i've still got 3 "Base System Device" errors with exclamation points on them. Done some reading which points to the chipset driver but i've installed that few times with no luck. I've intalled windows XP Pro on it and found all drivers but those for the Base System Device. I've read that it could be the LAN driver but no luck there. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Laptop = Satellite Pro A300

In my device manager I have two errors.

Under 'Other devices', both say 'Base System Device'
Under Hardware Ids, the first one says:

PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_FF1C1179&REV_12
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_FF1C1179
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_0880

The second one says:
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_FF1C1179&REV_12
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_FF1C1179
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880

I believe it has something to do with my card reader.
Can anybody direct me to the right web site to use the drivers?

Answer:Base System Device error for my Satellite Pro A300

Here is a nice page:
http://www.pcidatabase.com/

You can search for details of PCI devices.
VEN means Vendor
DEV means Device

VEN 1180 = Ricoh
DEV 0592 = Ricoh Memory Stick Controller

So the case is clear: it?s card reader controller.

I recommend reinstalling the driver.

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

Answer:Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

Hello,

I'm trying to set up the SD card reader on my Portege 2000 running Windows XP operating system.

I have downloaded and installed the common modules and my BIOS does not need updating.

I have downloaded the SD host controller driver, but can not install it as I have no base system device in device manager as per the read me.

How do I get this so I can enable my SD card reader?

Thanks, happy New Year

Answer:Portege 2000: How to add base system device in device manager?

Hi

Base system device is usually the SD Card Controller. If you just install that it should fix the problem.
The SD host controller driver should be installed first. After installing the SD host controller driver, you can install the SD memory card driver. The driver can be installed as follows:

SD host controller driver,
1. From [Start] menu, select the [Settings], then click on the [Control Panel].
2. Double-click on [System] and choose the [Hardware] tab.
3. Click on [Device Manager].
4. Double-click on [Base System Device].
5. Choose the [Driver] tab and click on the [Update Driver] button.
6. Click on [Next] and choose [Display a list of the known drivers...].
7. Click on [Next] and select [Network adapters] in [Hardware types].
8. Choose the [Have Disk] button.
9. Locate the folder "{CD-drive}: Windows XP Pro\Toshiba SD Host Controller Driver" and follow the instructions on the screen.
10. Finally, restart the Windows

For SD memory card driver,

After installing SD host controller driver,
1. Insert the SD memory card in the SD slot.
2. OS detects it and starts to install the SD memory card driver.
3. Specify the inf file ({CD-drive}: Windows XP Pro\Toshiba SD Memory Card Driver) and forward the setup process.
4. Copy the SDDEVMGR.dll file under the Windows System directory.
Note that System directory means \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 for Windows XP.

I am using the above said model, there is not much of a problem, but recently I have notice in the Device Manager under other devices are two Sub System Devices listed with yellow markings stating the drivers are not installed and the error code 28. The location is stated as PCI Bus 8 device 6 functions 3. I mean not that I have problems or there something wrong with my laptop, but it?s quite irritating and I want to solve this! Can anybody assist how to fix this problem? PS: In Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers if I choose my pc icon and try to troubleshoot I get install a driver for this device and I get a suggestion of "apply this fix" whereby clicking this I get a message that it?s not fixed because the SBD has no driver.

Hi there,

I have an HP Pavilion DV7 2185dx laptop running a freshly installed windows 7 upgrade from windows Vista. Ever since the upgrade my CPU is constantly running at 98-100% all the time meaning I cannot do anything on my PC. After researching a bit online it could possibly be the driver errors I see in device manager?

In device manager I see that I have some drivers missing and all attempts to update these have failed and i've seen other users here post the missing drivers and be directed to the fixes.

I've installed Windows 7 Iand have noticed that two devices aren't installed properly. Both of them are called "Base System-device" and they are located at PCI bus 4, device 6, function 2 and 3. Any suggestion, plz?

Answer:Re: Base System-device

Hi,

You didn't provide us much detail about your laptop model. I think, you should update a card reader according to the PCI bus 4, device 6, function 2 and 3

I solved this problem a couple years ago when I first installed windows 7, but I can't recall what device/s this is to install the correct drivers. Also, I have installed and run Lenovo System Update and it hasn't found them after installing every critical and optional update offered.

Question: Base System Device

I have a HP 4050N printer and recently purchased a USB to parallel cable so I could use it with my current Dell Inspiron 1505 laptop running on MS XP Pro that does not have a parallel port.  It worked fine for several weeks, but then I started traveling and would unplug the printer when I took the computer with me then plug it back in when I returned. Then I began getting a message when I booted that there were three unknown base system devices to install.  I wasn?t sure what they were so I did not install them.  Gradually the printer became intermittent and finally it will not print at all. When I went to the device manager the base system devices show up with a question mark in yellow. When I went to Printers and Faxes in the control panel I find four HP4050N icons that I did not install (I assume they self-installed each time I tried a different USB port). Any advice on how to make my printer work again?

Answer:Base System Device

Uninstall all device manager references to the printer and uninstall the drivers as well. Obtain the latest drivers from the printer manufacturer its website and then reinstall according to their instructions. By the way, if you disconnect the printer, reconnect it to the same USB port it was in before otherwise Windows will treat it as a new device and at one point, this will cause confusion. As you have noticed.

Answer:base device system

Welcome to seven forums hostalla: At the bottom of this page and any page with similar issues you'll find threads on that issue. Most of the times it is a card reader driver or Richo or Alps touchpad driver. So go to HP site and find your laptop and download drivers for these 2 items(* if not 7 Vista will work in compatibility mode) and it should resolve your issue. Or you can go to device manager>click on the item>click properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id and copy and paste the code and we can find the driver for you. Also read the threads with the check mark on them below for more information.Compatibility Mode Good luck Fabe

Hello,

After installing Windows 7 I have noticed that two devices aren't installed properly. Both of them are called "Base System-device" and they are located at PCI bus 4, device 6, function 2 and 3. Maybe someone here can easily refer to what it is.

Answer:Base System-device

Possibly card reader or touch pad. Just punch in your model details at the Toshiba driver download and update drivers. Or have an auto search, including online when you go to control panel, system, device manager.. Microsoft update sometimes picks these up too.

Question: Base System Device

Hi All,

I have a Dell Latitude D800 Notebook and just reloaded Win XP SP3 on the computer. I loaded all the drivers from the Dell site for this dell computer (by service tag number). My device manager still shows that the Base System Device is under other devices.

When I double click on it the device status says: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) The device type is Other devices. The manufacturer is Unknown. And the location says PCI bus 2, device 1, function 3
Does anyone know where can I download the driver for this device please.

Thanks,

A Base System Device can range from a card reader to a chipset device on your motherboard.
In some cases, after re-installing Windows OR after attaching a new component, you may under Device Manager > Other devices, find an entry by the name of Base System Device - and these may show as Not Installed.
This could occur if the drivers for the hardware on your computer is not installed correctly.
To rectify this situation, you should try and locate the drivers for it. It could be on the software CD that came with the computer or you could visit the computer manufacturers website.
Anyone wants to throw more light on this, please do so!

Hi, My Acer Aspire E1-531 does not detect USB nor SD Card (I tried my camera and my smartphone - not working; the external hard drive works). After researching on different forums (I don't know much about computers), I checked the Device manager: the Base System Device's icons are marked with a yellow exclamation mark. As updating the drivers was not possible, I downloaded CardReader_Broadcom_15.0.7.2_W7x86x64 drivers from Acer Support website. i have a dell inspiron 1405 running XP, sp2. several weeks ago i started getting a found new hardware message every time i turned on the computer, for base system device. when i would go through the install wizard, searching either online or with the XP drivers disk, i get "driver cannot be found." now i just hit cancel when the wizard comes up; the wizard comes up again, i hit cancel again, and after that i can operate the computer normally. when i check properties for the three base system devices listed in device manager, it says either "device is not configured correctly" or "drivers for this device were not installed." clicking on scan for changes or reinstall just takes me back to the install wizard.can anyone tell me either a) how do i find what drivers i need to install or this or b) can i safely disable or uninstall the base system devices without harming other functions? if it is related to a card reader or chipset, as i have seen on other sites, can i re-install safely?thanks, andy

Question: Base system device

Hello, My OS is Windows 10 Pro and when I check the Device Manager I notice there is an device called 'Base system device'  under the 'Other devices' section which has a yellow alert icon on it. I have tried 'Update driver software' Windows option in order to look through Internet for a new driver but it hasn't found anything.  Also I have checked your website for a new/updated driver for this device, but you don't have an option for Windows 10 OS. Therefore, how do you suggest I proceed, please?  Kind regards.

Answer:Base system device

Does the installed OS a 32 or 64-bit architecture? It is likely that the Base system device driver that is missing is the media card reader. Check in the Device Manager to see if there is one installed or not. Your notebook has either a JMicron or an Alcor Micro media card reader.  You can try installing the Windows 8.1 version of the driver in compatibility mode. Use the driver that is present in the driver download  section of the support portal for your notebook. Right click the downloaded Windows 8.1 driver and select troubleshoot compatibility. How to install a driver in compatibility mode

Question: Base System Device

My computer crashed a while ago and I had to reinstall everything. Who knows what happened. I bought a new printer and am using it through a usb. I get an error message that "windows cannot detect device". I went into device manager and under the system device tree there is an exclamation point next to Base System Device. Can anyone tell me what that is and how to fix it? Could that be my problem with my printer install. I thought that Windows automatically detected any new hardware (I tried the new printer on another computer and it works fine).

Thanks

I was surprised to see this discussion was 7 years old. I just got the Windows 10 creator's update - and got the very same symptoms, hardware IDs etc.  But there is no driver update so I guess the multi-card reader is dead - I guess it's the price of using a laptop bought in 2010. It worked flawlessly until now.

Hi: You need these drivers... Base system devices: This package contains the driver for the Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader for the supported notebook models and operating systems. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software9/COL19729/ob-55777-1/sp37726.exe Coprocessor:  This driver has to be manually installed as follows... Download and run this file.  It will most likely not install the driver automatically. This package provides the driver for the NVIDIA nForce AR Chipset in the supported notebook models and operating systems. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37730.exe Go to the device manager, and click on the coprocessor device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp37730. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC.

So here it goes: I have a machine (used for creating master images) with all the drivers loaded. I perform a last CloneZilla image (before doing the sysprep). When I restore the image (to the same machine) the Ricoh Card reader has status of Base System Device under Other Devices. I have tried reapply the drivers, deleting the device with drivers and rebooting so that the machine can redetect the device. No luck, just stays at Base System Device. This is VERY annoying!!! Hi LeonvWyk,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with SD card reader on ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Please uninstall all the drivers related to SD card reader from Control panel ? Program & feature option and restart the system.

After restarting the system please download & install ThinkVantage system update utility from Lenovo support site, after the installation run the program so that it will search for all the required drivers and application for your system.
If the issue still persists then try with installing the driver manually, you can get the steps from below link, but it is with different model.

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-Card-Reader-Not-Showing-in-Device-Manager...

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Once I click cancel several times it pops up at the bottom right that my new base hardware device driver has not been properly installed and will not function properly. It takes at least 20 minutes to for all of this to happen. This has been happening for several weeks. I have not installed any new programs and I have researched each item in the autorun startup file to ensure I don't have anything out of whack starting up with my computer and have found nothing. Everything is up to date as well.

I have tried to look under the device manager to make sure there were no drivers not functioning. Nothing has an exclamation point. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers there are 3 drivers listed as Base System Device. When I click them it brings up the new hardware wizard again. Under properties it says it is for PC Bus3 device 1 function 1, 3, & 4. I don't know what these are for so I don't know if I should try to update the driver or disable or unistall or if it has somehow been infected?

Ok, so I just upgraded to Windows 7 64bit ultimate. Most everything is running fine, but in my device manager there are two items in the "other devices" section that aren't working properly. They are listed as "Base system devices".I'm not sure what actual piece of hardware this is, I'm running an Alienware m17 laptop, and the device info says this; "PCI bus 14, device 7, function 3"and"PCI bus 14, device 7, function 2"Does anyone know any way of telling what exact drivers I need to download to make this function properly? Also, My sound is normally very clear, but for some reason it's very muffled and quiet not, and my headphone jack isn't working. Any relation?

Answer:Base System Device Drivers

Hi,

I have a sony VGN-FW36GJ laptop pre-installed with vista home premium 64 bit which is now upgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

Before doing clean install I checked sony.com for updated support and drivers download. Apparently, after complete installation everything seems alright except 'Base system Device' error.

Am unable to fix it though it's not causing any malfunction but error mark is shown in device manager.

Please help if you have any idea

cheers

I have recently reinstalled Windows 7/64 (ultimate) to my Vaio VGN-Z710DD (sold in Canada only).
For Device manager the driver is not installed.
I have downloaded the driver from Vaio website (Memory Devices for WIndows 7 x64).
After the install, the system tell me the installation was no succesfull and should try again.
After the second attempt, the system tell me that the driver is for Vista OS.

This was tried many time with no difference.
Contacted Vaio (US/Canada) and Microsoft Techies - NO difference.
I feel lost in cyberspace Any suggestions?
Appreciate the help

Hi, I installed a clean copy of XP pro sp2 on a w500 (type 4062-27u). downloaded the ethernet drivers. used a usb drive to transfer them to the target system. success. downloaded system update  and let it run overnight. in the morning i had a bunch of yellow question marks in device manager. attempted uninstall and reinstall of system update. says all drivers are up to date. i have manually downloaded all the drivers that i can find including wireless, bluetooth. fingerprint reader, audio, video. chipset etc.i am left with two yellow question marks: Base System device      PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_20C917AA&REV_11\4&8365E1C&0&03F0Base System devicePCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_20CB17AA&REV_11\4&8365E1C&0&05F0 any clues on where i can find the drivers for these devices? thanks redpillstl

Answer:base system device driver

redpillstl, welcome to the forum, here's a link to the W500 driver site. I would suggest installing the Intel Chipset driver first and if not shown in device manager the Intel ATM driver. Hope this helps

Answer:Base System Device no driver

Wouldn't worry about it and just disable it.

Unless you actually know what it does and want the functionality. In this case, right click it in the device manager, properties, details tab, change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste what you see to here.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on my Lenovo T61 yesterday. I allowed Microsoft Update to upgrade drivers, and as far as I can tell, things are working. However, in Device Manager there are two problems. Under Other devices    Base System Device    Base System Device Properties for the first one show:Device type:     Other devicesManufacgturer:  UnknownLocation:  PCI bus 21, device 0, function 4Device status:  The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) Properties for the first second show:Device type:     Other devicesManufacgturer:  UnknownLocation:  PCI bus 21, device 0, function 3Device status:  The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) I've looked through the forum and there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution for Windows 7. Some helpers havve pointed to a missing Ricoh driver, but under PCMCIA in Device Manager, it shows:Ricoh R/RL/5C476 (II) or Compatible  Cardbus Controller, and under IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers Device Manager shows:Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller and under IEEE1394 Bus host controllers Device Manager shows:Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller If anyone has found this problem, and has a solution, it would be most welcome. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------... Answer:Solved: What is Base System Device

In the device manager click on update driver where theres yellow question marks and sometimes it will install the correct driver needed. if not try the dell website and look under support drivers and downloads for the drivers needed for that model of computer. if you type in the service tag it will give you the exact ones needed for that computer.

Answer:Base System Device - Samsung R70

Did the machine come with an installation CD?

After you install and update 7, you need to then install your chipset drivers, sound drivers, video card drivers, and then DirectX updates. You can find these all at Samsung's web site: Support for NP-R70 SAMSUNG
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...cd92a3&pf=true

The issue you face is that the machine doesn't officially support Windows 7 and so you must use the corresponding Vista driver.

Did you install the 32 or 64-bit version of 7?

Answer:Base system device Driver Missing

If you go to Windows Device Manager, there should probably be some "other device" with a yellow exclamation mark on it that represents the hardware device which currently is missing its appropriate driver.

Right-click on that device, select Properties, select Details tab, dropdown the Property list item and select the second item (Hardware ID).

Then copy/paste the values shown in that Hardware ID here, so that we can see what this unsupported device actually is as far as Windows is looking for.
