x240 loses mouse settings on wake or boot

Question: x240 loses mouse settings on wake or boot

I have a Windows 7 Professional X240 and it keeps randomly loosing the mouse settings on wake or boot. I have double tap to simulate a right click, once in awhile the trackpad would stop doing it and I would have to go back into the settings to enable it... Any tips?

Preferred Solution: x240 loses mouse settings on wake or boot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Similar thing happens to me. 2 finger tap for right click disappears sometimes and I have to re enable it in the touchpad software. Annoying. Happens once or twice a week.

my X240 does not wake up from sleep/deep sleep. The machine is connected to the power adapter, battery inserted. Once it falls into sleep for more than ~ 20min, it does not react to key trokes mouse moves or power button.Instead, I need to unplug the power supply and press the reset button. Sometimes I even need to remove the battery otherwise the reset button would not workAll drivers are up to date, BIOS as well. Have seen similar posts up here but also elsewhere - offered solutions ranged from BIOS update, driver roll backs till even mother board replacements.Have not been in touch with a Lenovo service center yet, hope to resolve things by myself. Is there any straight forward solution? Thx

Hello, I am using an X240 with the following specs: Processor:  i5-4300 CPU @ 1.90 GHz 2.50 GHzRAM: 8.0 GBSystem: 64 bit, Windows 7No external monitors When my computer lid is closed and it automatically sleeps it is not possible to wake it again when I open the lid. I will move the mouse (both the external and the built in), touch the keys, and even push the power button and it will not wake up. The power button light remains solid. The only way I have figured out how to wake it up is if I plug in a VGA cable that is connected to an external monitor or projector.Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:X240 will not wake from sleep

First step is to look in the event log to se if a device is throwing a message about a problem entering the sleep state.

Thank you for taking the time to read my posting.

1: XP Pro, sp1; is there a section that allows me to modify which events will wake my system up from low power, screen saver/monitor off mode?

2: Windows Media Player Classic often, while watching in full screen mode, ?loses focus to?? Is there a way to prevent it from dropping out of full screen mode, mid-movie so i can see my isp redialing (for the 4th time that night :|),?

3: My real, paid for, single-user, single-machine, never given out to anyone, Windows XP activation code, has been black balled by Microsoft for ?over use?. Or as they say, ?according to our records the number of times you can activate windows with this product key has been exceeded.? At which point I must call their support and transcribe a 48 digit number from an operator. Has anyone heard of a way I can prove, as I posses the box/folder/little orange coded activation sticker, that I am the original user and get a new activation code?

Suggestions? Solutions?

I don't normally have to post questions becasue I can usually search and read enough on these formus to fix my own issues but this one is tough.

System Details: Vista Home Premium 32-bit, desktop, Linksys Wireless-G PCI card.  I use MS Essentials for AV.

Symptoms: At first I noticed slow network connection.  Then it seemed that the connection was flaky.  It would not properly negotiate DHCP.  I would notice that my IP would revert to the default 169.254.x.x  So I set the connection up as a static IP.  Then it would intermittently lose the gateway setting.  I can now no longer get the PC on the web becasue I can't get a valid IP to take effect.  The settings in the properties don't seem to affect what I see in the "status details" of the connection.  IT is stuck on 169.254.47.296.

What I have done:  So far, I have done a REboot in safe mode and Malware Bytes scan, ComboFix, CCLeaner, and MS Security Essentials scan.  I have executed the Norton removal tool,  reset the TCP stack using the NetShell utility.  I have tried adding another NIC(USB Wifi) which showed the same symptoms.

I have NOT tried uninstalling the NIC driver and letting windows re-install it.

This doens't "feel" like a virus/malware issue but I could be wrong.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give.  Also, if I could provide any extra details that would help please let me ... Read more

I am using the latest version of Chrome, I opened Chrome the other week  and I had a message saying that my preferences could not be found ( or something along those lines, sorry can't be more precise) so I reinstalled extensions and plugins, and altered my settings.

I thought this was odd so ran Malwarebytes, then AdwCleaner and JRT, nothing was found in Chrome but  AdwCleaner  found something in Firefox and IE explorer ( I don't use these) I cleaned, rebooted, ran all 3 again and the system came up clean.

Now everytime I use CCleaner I get the same message when opening Chrome, so something's wrong, settings haven't been altered in CCleaner either. Any help appreciated as I can't keep on reinstalling extensions plugins, settings etc.

Answer:Chrome loses it's settings/preferences.

I have a new Dell laptop running W7. The screen tint is far too blue and I have found the controls in the display section where I can modify the colours (and gamma etc).
I can adjust everything with no problems, but much to my annoyance, when I boot up again, all the settings have reverted back to the factory, too blue settings.
(I think that the settings even get lost if the laptop powers itself down through the various hibernate/sleeps etc; although I?m not that familiar with all of those options so am not sure.)
So, my question is how can I get W7 to remember these settings?

Hi guys.

I've done all the possible troubleshooting I possible can on this at the level of Office.

I can only think it's something to do with Windows/registry.

Problem

User launches Word and gets the User Information screen that runs on first launch (like a Windows RunOnce setting would, only this info is stored in Word under Tools-Options, User Information tab). The information is pre-defined, so she hits OK.

There is no listing under the MRU list. It won't save anything.

All of these settings are stored in the reg under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\9.0\WORD

I then found that when she originally ran detect and repair, she got an error. The error is described at Q299774, but their fix does not help and, in fact, she still gets the error. (This after completely uninstalling and reinstalling from the hard drive.)

What we've tried.

We renamed normal.dot.
We have renamed the Word reg key to OldWord.
We have completely trashed the Office folder and reinstalled Office.

We tried what's recommended under:
;236588]Q236588

Our question at this point is this, I suppose:

Do we have any recourse besides a reinstall of Windows?

And, if a reinstall, is it worth it to just reinstall without reformatting?

Answer:Windows XP: Word loses MRU and other settings on each startup

It would definitely be worth trying a reinstall if there a lot of valuable data that would be lost. But has a "System Restore" been tried, if there is a known date when the problem wasn't occuring?

Gang I have a very puzzling problem - just one - on an otherwise healthy HP minitower running Vista Home 64-bit. It has an older low-end embedded Nvidia gpu - not very potent. The symptom here is simple: Vista boots/loads normally, I get the POST screen, can deal with SETUP, Safe Mode works, all that is good, but when the User's account loads and it goes to setup the display settings, instead of the nice desktop I get a pattern on the screen that looks like > > > > arrows arranged in a diagonal pattern, static. In other words, its not "noise" its a pattern. If I instead boot the the "clean" account that I use for working on it, it looks fine. Twice I have uninstalled the video device, cleared out all the driver stash, reinstalled fresh with latest Nvidia [whatever WAS the latest/last for that device] 'ware, and things are peachy. Wait a week, and the problem is back.

One other thing to note is that I have noticed in playing with different resolution settings, that Vista will not always "hold" the resolution I give it and that bothers me... I thought that perhaps there was one mode, unfortunately the "native" one for the monitor, which was having difficulty sync'ing or something, so I would deliberately set a non-native mode and refresh rate, but on a reboot, that one would no longer be valid and it would default to a different mode.

The first time I did cleanup on it it did have some routine malware... Read more

I have an Aspire One Cloudbook 14. Almost every time Windows 10 updates, something goes "jumpy" with my Synaptics Touchpad. Starting yesterday, the tray icon for the touchpad disappeared and I cannot find any "settings" for resetting or changing the touchpad. To top it off, when the icon disappeared yesterday, I lost all those settings, i.e., multi-finger gestures of any kind. My settings on those are gone with no way to access them and reset them when I try to get to the settings through the mouse options within Windows 10 Settings. I have updated to the latest synaptics drivers from acer and no luck. If I run the driver update again, it does pop the icon back in place in the system tray and then I can re-set everything and have the gestures back. BUT, as soon as I shut down the computer or if I restart -- the tray icon disappears and I lose all the settings again. I found suggestions here that worked for several people (download and install the chip set drivers worked for them, then reinstalling the touchpad driver), but that and nothing I've found on other forums, websites when I google has worked. I suppose I could try just putting the computer into hibernate or sleep each time I finish using it and just never turn it off, and hope I never have to restart it. But that doesn't seem too practical.  Thanks for any ideas. Gary

I have a client with two incoming fax servers on Windows 7 using Windows Fax & Scan.  These two machines are also on a weekly cycle for patch management which performs an automated reboot late Wednesday evening and again early Thursday morning to
process updates.

After the first reboot, the Windows Fax & Scan's auto answer settings revert back to the default of answering on 5 rings.  This is too long as most incoming faxes disconnect after four.

Looking through the Registry, I see a REG-DWORD under the Fax software entries for Rings = 2, but how is it resetting to 5 on a reboot?

I have a Microsoft USB optical mouse that I've owned for quite awhile. It has been working find until recently. The mouse frequently loses power (the red light underneath turns off) for 5 - 20 seconds and then turns back on. During this time, the mouse is non-responsive. I'm on a laptop and the touch pad works just fine even when the USB mouse isn't responding. I've tried switching USB ports, but the problem still exists regardless of the port.

I've read somewhere online that this is being caused by some Microsoft update or patch that MS has recently released, but I'm not too sure as to the accuracy of that.

Any help is greatly appreciated (especially since this situation sucks when you try to play computer games )

I don't know if your problem is caused by any update from microsoft, there is one of two things you could try, buy a new mouse (your old mouse might have a bad connection) or if your laptop has a ps2 port buy a usb to ps2 adapter (well that's what worked for my on my hp desktop pc, i too kept losing my mouse but connecting it to my pc's ps2 port using a usb to ps2 adapter fixed that problem).

I just downloaded winxp service pack 2 and my mouse stopped working. I found my way to the device manager in the control panel and there is no mouse. I changed from a usb to a standard mouse and it still doesn't work. Microsoft bugs me to install it and this happens. I did it last week and the same thing happened (no mouse) Before I uninstall it (again ) is there anything else I should do? Please be advised that I just chop around and sometimes I get lucky using keystrokes instead of the mouse so please be very specific as far as how to get there without the mouse.

Answer:R50E do not charge battery/loses BIOS settings .

Welcome to the forum! Schematics of ThinkPads are one of the best kept secrets in business, you won't find any official ones anywhere. Having said that, sounds to me like you need a new CMOS (BIOS) battery for your machine, these are around $10 on eBay. That should take care of BIOS settings being kept. Chances are that you have a blown fuse on the motherboard somewhere in the charging area. Have your technician test them and determine whether one or more are defective. Hope this helps.

My dual core celeron laptop on Win7 has a problem with the built in mouse right click button. When used in a program (Pretty Good Solitaire) it only works 90 to 95% of the time. Is this a Win7 or a Toshiba problem or something else?

Answer:toshiba C660 loses odd mouse right click

If it works well in other programs like word or your browser, it is the program that is the problem. In this case, uninstall and reinstall the program if you have the disk or installer saved. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Ok, I'm confused. My mouse keeps hanging up and clock loses time when not running in safe mode. Not just the mouse really, but nothing at all works. When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then.

I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd. Not sure what else to put here, but have a Hijack this log file I can post if needed.

Packard Bell CO-5P cordless optical mouse used with Packard Bell PC. PS/2 connection from receiver / charge unit to PC, mouse always fully charged & well within radio range. Randomly and suddenly the mouse loses control; initially the active window loses focus, then a series of right-click menus appears, or web pages may scroll up / down on their own - as if mouse is making its own button inputs (has 4 buttons + scroll wheel). Disconnectng the PS/2 cable and reconnecting it immediately resolves the problem, however it can happen several times within minutes (although also not at all for hours). No problem with other mice so PC is OK. This mouse was originally ?70 but was recently selling for ?9.99 in local electrical store... Coincidence or not??

Answer:Cordless mouse randomly loses control

a friend had the same problem when he played games but not on desktop. he just exchanged the mouse and got another one. a different brand. or you could try and change the channel if it is possible and it might be recieved well. also keep the reciever away from metallic surfaces etc.

Sorry, i am writing from Berlin, Germany and my english is not the best... ;-) Yesterday i have placed a new X240 (Windows 7) with Dockingstation on the desk of the financial controller... At the docking station USB ports are two USB receivers for Mouse and Keyboard (both from Logitech) While he is leaving his desk, he presses the power button on the docking station for putting the X240 into sleep. After pressing the button a second time for getting the X240 back to work external mouse and keyboard are not working (not every time, but mustly), i must open the X240 lid and logon with the X240 kb/mouse. After logon the external kb/mouse are coming (earlyer or later) back to life. I have tried: last BIOS, last Logitech driver, replugging the mouse receiver from DS to X240 and of course disabling all the energy saving options, nothing of this has helped and then he gave me a kick in the ass and "i must do my work now, on friday i am not in office, so you can fix it on friday" (= tomorrow) Its not an option for the user, but of course i will try tomorrow with cabled mouse/keyboard and if the problem occurs after fresh restart without docking station. Does anyone have an idea? I have read in this forum about the X240  fingerprint sensor problem after sleep - maybe its the same issue. Best regards,Matthias

Hi you all

My problem occurs on ms Access 2003 with the treeview component from mscomctl.ocx (SP6) 6.1.97.86

A Treeview is added to a form or tabcontrol and some nodes are added with the property Bold=True, the Nodes seem OK and behave OK.

After the Treeview was hidden by setting .visible=False or after switching to an other TabPage when it is on a TabControl, the Bold Setting has disappeared when the Treeview is shown again and all text is displayed with regular font settings.

The settings for the Bold property has changed from True to False. So it is not a problem of drawing or display settings. Somehow the Treeview Nodes lose their settings for the property 'Bold'.

This does not happen in VB6 using the same control.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Thanks for your time

Hello dellis,

For the issue which you are facing with your system, I suggest you to to uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management driver from the Programs and Features. After that please reinstall the updated Energy Management driver from the below mentioned web link according to your Operating System.

After that, kindly update the BIOS of your system also and then check how it goes.

Hi
I have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 graphic card and BenQ GL2450 monitor. Recently my monitor started going into sleep mode (I thing it says "No signal detect") exactly 15 min after not using the mouse or keyboards. When I click on mouse after that, I get message "DVI: input" (or something like that) and I get signal again.

I checked Change plan settings and sleep mode is disabled. I also reinstalled all my NVIDIA drivers. I noticed in Device manage that I have Generic Pnp Monitor and I actually don't know what is it.

My Spectre x360 13" (late 2016 model) loses the mouse when transitioning from tablet to laptop mode.  I have to reboot to get the mouse back.  Incidentally, my mouse (Amazon Basics MG-0975 doesn't even show up in Control Panel's device list as a mouse -- just as a transceiver.  But it works better than the Microsoft mice (3500 and 4000) that I tried before -- they jumped all over the place.  That appears to be a Windows 10 problem, however, not related to the Spectre particularly. I love the Spectre, by the way -- looks and works great and is a terrific value for the money.

Hi im having problems trying to fix the following pc for a friend

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/t9000.htm

He tells me that the pc has not been used for around 8 months . Firstly the ati radeon card has been removed , using the onboard vga connection gives a picture until either i try to use the mouse then the monitor switches to no signal and the same with any input from the keyboard , this happens either in windows or when i try to press the del key to enter bios . So far i have confirmed the monitor isnt faulty by using a differnt pc on it and i have also tried a differnt monitor with a dvi connection with the same result , if any one has any suggestion id be grateful for a bit of advice . Cheers Al .

Answer:Monitor loses signal with mouse or keyboard input .

Have you tried using different mouse and keyboard? If an AGP card was removed, did you reenble the onboard video via the mobo manual instructions?

Also try removing, wiping the connections off and replacing the memory into the same slots one at a time. And if there is more than one stick try leaving the dimm1 stick in only and test then switch to the other and test to see if one stick is bad.

Hi, I got some problems about my wireless keboard and mouse set for Pavilion All-in-One PC. The keyboard's model name is KG-1450It used to work well until one day I start my PC and found out I couldn't use the keyboard. When I pressed on the keys I can only hear the clicking sound from speaker, but I couldn't type a single letter. Caps Lock was okay when I press it and I could see the light on. It was quiet strange coz the mouse still works. I had to use touch screen keyborad to type. I tried restart the PC, checked the battery, went to Control Panel and removed the devide for a while, unplug  the connection USB and plug in again. It only worked when I restart PC, entered password, and then lost connection again. Once I found out another laptop may disturb this wireless set because the keyboard just connect with LAPTOP. I didn't pair it or install it on that laptop! After I remove it from my laptop the issue stills happened on Pavilion PC. Can somebody help me with it Please... ToT Thanks,Kasy

I've got a Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4204 Ultrabook. I guess that 60-70% of the time when I wake the computer up the touchpad does not work. No cursor input. It's running windows 10 on a SSD HDD. I leave it on and only turn it off (restart) if there is an issue. I've had this laptop for about 2 years now and always had this issue. It came with windows 8. I upgraded to 10 when it was available. I've actually reinstalled windows numerous times to try to correct this issue. I've also reinstalled the touchpad drivers many times. I even tried replacing the physical touchpad by buying a new cover that comes with the touchpad. Nothing is working. Any other suggestions? Look for a new laptop?

I have a logitech laser mouse - no model number, but came with Logitech comfort keyboard/mouse combo. The problem is the mouse is losing focus. Examples - 1) when I highlight a paragraph, it loses part of the highlight before I've completed. 2) When highlighting an area in photoshop, it makes the selection before I've finished defining it. 3) When dragging messages in Thunderbird, it 'lets go' as I'm dragging and drops the message in the wrong place.
It doesn't appear to be software as I've deleted the drivers and downloaded new ones, and the fact that a different mouse doesn't do this makes me certain it's a hardware issue. However, before it goes in the bin, are there any known issues with Logitech mice doing this?

Answer:Logitech mouse problem - loses focus when highlighting

Sounds very much like your mouse is dying.Cannot think of anything else to suggest as you seemed to have ruled out a software issue. I to have a Logitech mouse the MX518 best mouse I have ever had, beat the Ionix and CM Storm I have hands down.

Daily is the name given to the new replacement for Mozilla Thunderbird. It often has daily updates, and the one today (08 Jan 2016) causes it to lose all email settings. As a result, when it start is shows no existing email, no email account, and looks like you are starting with a fresh install of a new email client.

To get around this I downloaded and installed the latest version of Thunderbird (38.5.1) and this did show all my email OK. So something bad happened to Daily - hopefully whoever it is who controls that software will fix it tomorrow.

I have a brand new T510, coming from a T61p. Everything is GREAT but ONE thing... Occasionally when I am using the trackpointer (which I do often) the left click button will lose the click that it has, let me try and explain... I click down to grab a window and drag it, start dragging, suddenly without depressing the button at all, it just drops the window, and then the click kicks back on a split second later either grabbing something else or clicking something else giving it the focus. I can replicated it occasionally and opened paint, started drawing a long curvy line without unclicking the button and the line ends up with breaks in it! Has anyone had this issue? It is VERY irritating...

Hello,

I've had a series of problems with my computer lately.

First of all, sometimes while playing games with high graphics, the monitor will lose signal and there seems nothing I can do to fix it besides restart. Strangely enough, after dusting the computer out and pulling out and putting in the RAM, I haven't had this problem anymore, but I am worried it will come back, and I wonder what the cause of the signal loss was.

Also, the keyboard and mouse sometimes both die on me, no matter what I am doing on the computer. The monitor will still work after this happens.

Also, I've just noticed that my computer says I only have 6GB ram, when in fact I have 8GB installed. Not sure if that's related.

Any ideas on the cause of these problems, and if they are related?

My computer is about 3 years old, a Digital Storm computer,
Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.67GHz
8GB RAM (but says only 6GB)
GeForce FTX 275 card
Windows Vista SP2
750W power supply
3 fans

Thank you for your help.

Dear all,

I have this issue that has been driving me nuts ever since I upgraded my Windows 10 Pro x64 to v1607 (from 1507) recently. It's a desktop PC with a trusty old Logitech MX518 plugged into a back panel USB 2.0 slot. Same symptom with or without Logitech Gaming Software installed. Tried it with another (noname) mouse but same story. PC is free of malware, no sign of anything out of ordinary other than this. Needless to say that everything was working fine prior to update.

So what happens in the video is that when I click and hold an item and make a fast movement with the mouse, it loses focus of said object and drops it right there when it happens. This rendered drag&drop an infuriating trial and error process.

Another strange behavior I noticed is that 'shaking' a window will minimize another magically. What is happening?!

I'm not sure if the two symptoms are related to one another, I'd just like the mouse to work normal again, just as before the Anniversary Update. Is it because of some new mouse gesture or tablet oriented feature? I'm left puzzled here.

Thank you for any response, highly appreciated!

OK. This one is very annoying. My mouse has been quitting on me all the time recently. Whenever I move it around a lot, or sometimes lust over to a button or something, the mouse completely loses power, and the buttons seem to "freeze" in their current state, so if I had the left button pressed at the time it went out, that button would still be considered "pressed", and would continue to do whatever. It is getting very hard to play many games because of this, especially Skulltag (DooM source port), and Unreal Tournament. It is also very difficult to get around in windows because of this. Once the mouse loses power and stays out, I get the very annoying "USB Device Not Recognized" error popping up in the notification area on the taskbar. After that, the only way I can get power back to the mouse is rebooting. (Plugging it into a different port doesn't help, and if I plug my other mouse in once this happens, it eventually loses power too. I even tried a ps2 port mouse, and got nowhere. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. Other devices on the USB ports are a Saitek P880 Gamepad and an ATI RF Wireless Remote Receiver (Remote Wonder). I have even tried unpluggin these devices, think9ing it was simply a "too much power" problem, but my problem is still there. Is there any way I can fix this so I don't have to keep rebooting, without having to buy a new mouse?

Hello fellow Lenovo users, I have a Lenovo T420 for work running Windows XP (32-bit professional).  My home setup is as follows: Home PC (64-bit Windows 7)Lenovo T420 + docking stationBelkin 2-port KVM switch (VGA and USB) USB keyboardUSB mouseVGA monitor Most of the time the KVM switch works fine.  However sometimes when I switch from my home PC back to my work PC I lose the keyboard and mouse.  The monitor switches properly. BIOS version: Lenovo 83ET59WW (1.29), 6/1/2011Since this is a work PC I might not be allowed to update the BIOS. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Answer:T420+Belkin USB KVM switch loses keyboard and mouse periodically

Hi, zstringer

How long has this issue been occuring? Has this always happened, or is it a recent occurence? Either way, my first recommendation would be to update the BIOS, since the latest version came out Dec. 25, 2012 and can be found here. As for your not being able to update the BIOS, I would put in a request with your workplace to see if it can be made possible, as running a BIOS over a year old could lead to more issues in the future.

Best of luck,
Adam

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Satellite Radius 15 P50W-C106 (Intel 5200U, 256GB Toshiba SSD, 8GB DDR3 RAM) that I bought back in November 2015.
I haven't used it very much until September 2016, and have used it on a daily basis (including 2-4 hours on battery) since then. It worked like a dream so far, didn't have any problems.
Today, the laptop does not work on battery at all. It will refuse to power on if unplugged and it will shut itself off immediately if I unplug it while it is on, even though Windows 10 detects the battery and reports it as fully charged. What's even more is that it will lose all BIOS settings everytime it is unplugged, including date and time, which is particularly annoying. For the record, I have last reinstalled Windows 10 back in March 2017, and have done no software changes since then. Also, I have not upgraded the laptop's SSD or RAM or anything else (in fact, I haven't opened it at all).
Fortunately, it's still within warranty and I'll send it in as soon as I can.
Has anybody else had similar issues? Am I to expect a repair, or a replacement?

Regards,
Carl

SYSPREP GENERALIZE LOSES LOCAL GROUP POLICY SETTINGS

I have a laptop in which I've created an image I want to  deploy.

The image has VERY specific group policy settings to restrict the user from doing anything improper on  the desktop.  I have created users and assinged the LGP to a specific user.  It works fine...

BUT, when I sysprep it and do the generalize pass, all the LGP goes away.  I have an unattend file for win 7 that I've created using the SIM program.  I use it to handle the OOBE stuff.

Bottom line, I have an  image that I want to clone using the MS tools (IMAGEX) to create a WIM and then deploy it to laptops as a WIM image.  I need to figure  out a way to clone this laptop and keep  all the settings and let MS WIN7
be happy with the SID's and computername.  I could do this in WINXP and WDS easily.  But WIN7 is a little more difficult.

the LGP is used to lockdown the laptop.  These laptops are for police and fire, so I want them to boot to a user (autologin) and then allow them to login to the dispatch application.  It works with no porblems until I sysprep  it for deployment.

Anyone have any ideas.... my thoughs are no because the LGP is tie... Read more

Answer:SYSPREP GENERALIZE LOSES LOCAL GROUP POLICY SETTINGS (repost from other forum)

Hi,
Based on my research, we can configure local Group Policy Administrative Template settings on a master computer. This is because Administrative Template settings are stored in the registry, and Sysprep does not change this part of the registry. Any changes
you make to Administrative Template settings will appear on the disk image.
And the sysprep does not remove the user specific GP. It is still under ?c:\windows\system32\Group Policy Users". As you said, the user SID changed during sysprep. Try to change the name of the policy folder in the "c:\windows\system32\Group Policy Users"
folder to match the users new SID.
And then run GPUPDATE / FORCE, restart again.

Hi, I've only recently begun having problems a few days ago with my cursor/mouse where the cursor will sometimes lose focus of the currently active window or the explorer bar (and I have to ctrl+alt+del to gain the focus back because clicking doesn't work). The same thing happens with flash based objects like WheatherSpark or the youtube player, and I have to switch programs and back to firefox to be able to manipulate the youtube player or in VLC where I can't manipulate the player at all and the only way for me to change the sound is to use the scroll wheel (and even then the sound gets randomly changed as if the scroll wheel is being used. I can't change the timeline of the file at all and I cant click on the buttons on the interface, although the file menu works).

I originally thought it was my mouse acting up so I re-installed all the drivers and tried updating to no effect and the same behaviour happens when I turn my mouse off and unplug the bluetooth reciever.

Im using a wireless optical mouse (ROCCAT Pyra) on Win7 Pro x64

ps: I already tried searching but noone seems to have a similar problem

Question: Wake On Mouse

I already have Wake On PS/2 mouse disabled, yet it still wakes my system if I touch the trackball of my cordless mouse. This is not a problem with my desktop mouse, but it definitely is with the remote control that includes a trackball, because it usually stays at my side in bed, and if I even jar it in the wrong fashion, it wakes the computer. It has it's own power button dedicated for this task, so how do I disable the mouse portion of this issue?

Answer:Wake On Mouse

Have you gone into Device Manager and expanded the remote device's Properties and under the Power Management Tab unchecked the option to "use this device to wake the computer"?

Or are you looking to disable just the trackball from doing so?

I got a Logitech MX?620 Cordless Laser Mouse, on sale for $30 in a Sam's Club this weekend.Logitech makes nice mice, this one is cordless. A very small dongle plugs into a USB port on my T41, (Win XP, SP2).I downloaded and installed Logitech's SetPoint 4.60 software, Logitech's driver for the mouse. They have two other things to download and install associated with this mouse, Logitech® Connection Utility and Logitech® Desktop Messenger.  I didn't know what the other two software does, so I didn't download either one.The settings for the Mouse, controlled in the SetPoint dialog boxes seem to affect and interfer with the T41 TouchPad's settings. I don't see the exact cause and effect, hence this post. It seems when if I set up a comfortable setting for the mouse, for acceleration and pointer speed, then the touchpad settings are lowered (acceleration and speed are lowered), to the point of being uncomfortably slow.  Then if I modify settings via the ThinkPad UltraNav Wizard (ver 3.05), to speed up the speed or acceleration, the Logitech mouse's speed and acceleration are slowed down.  It seems to be a never ending game, set up one device, and the settings on the other device get changed.  Does anyone know why this is, or have a fix for it?A further note, I've used generic USB mice, the $10 corded kind that plug into a USB port, and have never had this problem.  So the Logitech SetPoint driver/software is the different from using generic mice. ... Have recovered Windows 8.1 from Windows 10 due to couple of issues: Main irritant was that I could not simply read any articles from any web sources without having to again click into that article since the mouse focus goes somewhere else. Very annoying. Does not happen in either FireFox nor Chrome in Windows 10 and does not happen in MSIE in Windows 8.1.
(fyi: other big problem is that there is no wi-fi in Windows 10 Safemode with Networking. Same problem on 5 different computers running Windows 10.)
I would love to know if anyone else has noticed the mouse focus problem.

Hi,

Looking for advice on how to find where the touch pad settings may be hidden on this laptop I'm working on? I've looked in the control panel and there is no icon for touch pad and I've looked in the mouse settings without finding any options to change the settings for the touch pad? The laptop is an acer Aspire 5520-5912 running Vista Home Premium Service pack 2. Any ideas?

Answer:Can't find touch pad settings in Control Panel/Mouse settings anywhere?

Hi loki2007 Usually, Windows install it's own Microsoft Legacy Drivers for a touchpad on a laptop, and these drivers doesn't enable the "Advanced" settings that allows you to control the touchpad. In order to do that, you have to install the laptop touchpad drivers which will add that tab in the Mouse options.Download and install these drivers:http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/TouchPad/Touchpad_Synaptics_9.1.16_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633639058794305220&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%205520&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_4Let me know if they install or not.

Hi parrotplay,

Please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so do not fix anything yet.

He instructed me that he had installed 8GB of ram and had removed the original 4GB, again... didn't believe it would be a problem. Turned the system on with a Live USB of Linux and was not pleased to hear three beeps twice, followed by a single beep. I opened the unit and removed the 8GB stick. Received the same sounds... memory issue. I read the memory and it was 8GB DDR3 1600MHz 1.5V. I called the seller and said this is the wrong memory. These units require DDR3L (Low Voltage) 1.35V memory. He said he was unaware and it's all he has. I went and purchased Micron 8GB DDR3L 1.35V. Installed it and no more beeps. Great! Problem... no video either. Pressing power the keyboard lights up, fan spins and power button plus I on ThinkPad lights up... then keyboard lights go out, fan stops and that's all she wrote. About 1 minute and the green light on power and red light on I goes out. I tried completely discharing the unit, removed CMOS, Internal and External batteries and then held down power button for a minute or two. Same results. Tried an external Lenovo IPS monitor, and nothing... just black screen. Tried F1 repeatedly and nothing also... just black screen. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.

I'm using a generic mouse attached to the front panel usb.

Thanks for future responses. Have a good day!

just one more thing I wish to ask my computer now goes to sleep fine even on timer .What i would like is if it is possable when I move my wireless mouse or a button on the keyboard it will wake up the pc from its sleep/standby mode. I have looked in device manager it says my keyboard / mouse is in wake up mode but nothing happens. have windows vista and longitech wireless mouse/keyboard. thanks for any help

Answer:keyboard/mouse wake up

You can try this:Disable the Wake on LAN feature. Essentially, the computer is set to automatically wake up from network traffic, which seems to include pulling out the cable. To change this setting, type in Device Manager into the start menu search box, and then browse down to ?Network Adapters? and find your network adapter. In this case, mine is ?Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet?.Right-click it and choose Properties from the menu. In the resulting dialog, choose the Power Management tab.Still facing the problem try to restore your pc & run antivirus program.click here for help

Have tried reinstalling the MS stock driver and ticking box onPwr Mgmt tab to wake computer from sleep. Logitech's software only appears to be an updater.

Answer:USB mouse takes 30 sec to wake up

Try resetting the wireless mouse.

In BIOS, wake up with USB device is enabled. Both USB keyboard and mouse are enabled.

However, in device manager, there is Power Management tab for the USB mouses. Pressing it has no effect when the machine is in standby.

Any way to fix it?

Thanks

Answer:USB mouse won't wake up the system

In Device Manager, right click the USB (enhanced or 2.0) Root Hub and select properties. Go to the Power Management tab.
For sure, you want unchecked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

As to the mouse, try checking allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.

Hello,

I have a notebook with Windows XP Home 32bit and I use an external Logitech LX700 keyboard and mouse combo for it. The combo is used via USB port.
My problem is if I wake up windows from sleep then the combo is not working at all. If I unplug and plug it again then it works fine.

Any idea?

Answer:No USB mouse after wake up from sleep

Hello,

Can you wake your computer from sleep by pressing a key on the keyboard or by moving/clicking a button on your mouse?

If not, then do the following:

1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.Double-click Keyboard.
3.Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
4.Click the Power Management tab, and then click to select the Allow this device to bring computer out of Standby check box.
5.Click OK, and then click OK again.

Do the same for your mouse device.

Answer:Unable to wake up with USB mouse

Use the keyboard. When you use this method on some USB mouse units, they are the last component to awaken and can take as long as two or three minutes.

I would like to wake from standby with the mouse.  Windows XP and USB mouse.  In Mouse Properties, I have selected "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby."  However, I see nowhere in the Power Options Properties to activate this function.  Something I'm missing?

Answer:Wake from standby via mouse

Is it a usb mouse? If so, I believe if you change the setting in power options to disable selective power saving to usb devices it should solve your problem. I'm not 100% certain because I've never used sleep. Instead I just set the hd and display to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It's easier on your system, uses fewer resources, and is fail-safe (compared to sleep & hibernate which can sometimes be problematical for many users).

In the bios, when S1 is enabled and I put the computer to sleep, the fans stay on and case lights stay at highest brightness. When S3 is enabled instead, the computer goes to sleep fine, but the keyboard and mouse don't work, forcing a hard reboot to get them working again. Some setting I'm missing or something that will get the computer to sleep and awaken without issue?

Win 10 Prof. I use a Logitech gaming mouse G900 for regular mousing and photography editing. It has a tilt wheel left and right which I've assigned to copy and paste. This works fine. However, when I use the scroll wheel to scroll, it often acts as if it is the tilt wheel in the regular HID mouse settings in Win 10. Therefore it will alter an entry I made on a website instead of just scrolling the page.

For example, if I enter the #2 in box when placing an order, and then scroll up or down the page, it ends up changing the number I just entered. Hope this is clear?

Control Panel/Mouse/mouse properties/wheel tab - Vertical Properties no problem. Horizontal Properties setting is used when entering a number into a fill-in box on a website even though I'm actually just using normal vertical scrolling.

I would like to convince Win 10 mouse properties to let me set horizontal properties to 0 or convince it that there is no tilt wheel, when in fact there is. I'm imagining I could do this in the registry but I don't know where to go. Or, if anyone has another suggestion, that would be great too.

Thanks.

mlg

Answer:Mouse Properties Interfere with Logitech Gaming Mouse Settings

Hi mlg

I think I understand what is happening and I think it is normal. When you've typed in a boxed the focus is in that box. So when you scroll it thinks you want to scroll in that box. You have to tell the form you are finished with that box.

So just before you scroll, click outside the box, once, to move the focus back to the overall form. Then use wheel.

I may not be understanding the issue 100%. Just ignore if I'm not understanding.

Windows 10 overrides bios settings for wake-up.

I have set in bios to wake up on ctrl-esc.
That works until I boot into windows 10.
Now when I shut down windows 10, my computer will
wake up on ANY keyboard event or mouse event.
OK so then I uncheck in windows:
power management->allow this device to wake up the computer.
Now the problem is that when windows shuts down, it turns off
the keyboard totally so it is impossible to send keystrokes.

All this time my settings in bios are:
don't power up from mouse
powerup on ctrl-esc ONLY

In windows 7 I don't have this problem, everything works
as set in bios.

My computer is not in sleep or hibernate.
Another thing to note is that when I power it up
by clicking any key ,and then power it down on the switch
next time it will only start on ctrl-esc.

(hybrid sleep is off)

Many thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 overrides bios settings for wake-up.

OK I figured it out.
I need to disable "fast startup".
Everything works fine now.

But if I wanted fast startup , is there a way to
choose which key wakes up the system?

Hi!I have trouble finding all the places where power management settings for the network card can be modifyed (Windows, BIOS, Lenovo software...). In device manager my settings to allow Wake on LAN (Power management tab of the NIC) are overridden after every reboot, making Wake on LAN unusable (The checkbox 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' get automatically unchecked). In BIOS and Power manager everything is set to allow Wake on LAN, at least I think so, but there is obviously something I'm missing, so I'm asking for you help to find what. I've googled a lot, but with no results :-(. I have the same problem on SL500 and R61 running WinXP.

Answer:power management settings shutdown Wake on LAN

After the last Access Connections update the checkbox does not uncheck itself anymore. However WOL works only a few minutes after shutdown, after that I cannot wake the PC anymore using WOL. It is as if the PC turns off the NIC completely after some time being turned off.

Sorry for another post (you guys are always helpful).
I just bought a new Samsung 850 SSD and cloned my Windows 7 OS (all went perfectly). Two issues, one is that I configured my pc to reflect the nature of a SSD by adjusting Virtual memory settings, turning off Hibernation, etc. I was nervous about wearing out the SSD. These are virtually the only changes I have made and now the PC awakes almost immediately after I put it to sleep.

I first used the Samsung Magician software to configure the OS and also tried manual settings using this article.
Storage talk: Understanding your solid-state drive - CNET

Could it be that after setting the Virtual memory to a smaller size, windows cannot sleep anymore? Ive tried all the various other basics like editing the advanced sleep options, disabling wake timers etc. Thoughts?

Second issue is that my mapped drives from a NAS (synology) show the "red X" after a restart/reboot? If I click on them, they load right up! Ironically one out of the 3 mapped folders loads perfectly, the other 2 do not???
