Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen issue

Question: Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen issue

Hi Guys, Other day I as usual opened my X1 Carbon lid and found out that it's screen stopped working. The keys and all the lights worked as usual. Since it was one month after my warranty ended and I had an issue required replacement of the screen before (Lenovo quoted it around $600) I ordered a new screen and later replaced it. Did not help. I've noticed plenty of people on this forum had similar problem. And it looks like it is not related to the screen. Has anyone found a solution except fixing it by warranty? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen issue

i assume it is the first generation X1 Carbon? On your other posts at the end of June, you mentioned that you had similar issue as someone else, where the laptop gets stuck trying to enter BIOS menu?

Unfortunately I dropped coffee of my Lenovo X1 Carbon purchased in late 2012 early 2013 (Windows 7 non touch screen) while I was still living in the UK. After drying PC is working fine when connected to a screen via a display port but notebook screen was completely blank. I purchased a screen on-line through ebay and replaced it but screen still remained completely blank. I tried replacing the screen cable but problem still persists. Any ideas please? Are there some fuses or inverter on the motherboard that I can look at?  Thank you Arthur

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen

Hi,I'd suggest the cause is the fusion in the LCD power circuit, you are right. Usually LCD fuses (there might be several units) are being placed near of the system board LCD connector, 3A32V and/or 5A32V.

Answer:Lenovo c200 all in one desktop windows 7 issue blank screen

hi neilodmt,

Welcome to the Forums.

Looking at the Windows 7 Boot Process, the OS loads up the necessary dependencies, drivers, and system registry hive as soon as the Windows 7 logo appears.

it's possible that during the Windows Update, the system installed a display driver or an update to the system files that's causing the black screen issue. If you're able to see a display during POST / Windows Recovery then there's no need to open up the machine.

To isolate, can you try one of the following:
1. Boot in Safe Mode (Windows will be forced to use a generic display driver). if this works:
  a. Open Device Manager > Display Adapters > (right click) on the display device > choose Properties
  b. On the Display Properties, navigate to the Drivers Tab and click Rollback Driver then hit Apply > then Ok.
  c. Reboot the machine in normal mode and observe.

2. If you're using a Windows 7 Home Premium (without SP1), re-install the OS and temporarily disable Windows Update. When you get to the desktop, install Windows 7 Service pack 1. If successful, create a System Restore point and install the other updates from Windows Update.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

My laptop recenctly started flashing (lines of colour being displayed rather then the picture) and then the colour fades out completely to a white screen. Initially this seemed to be impacted by me adjusting the screens position back and forward, however this went from happening intermittantly and returning to a normal screen after I would force restart the computer to being completely unusable. Any ideas on what the issue could be/ has someone expericenced a similar problem? ThanksSteph

Answer:X1 Carbon Thinkpad Touch Screen: Screen display flashing and turning blank / unable to use.

Yes,  I have similar issue. My screen becomes whiteish and i can barely see wht was on the screen. It seems like video card issue i remember a Dell laptop i had previously owned had similar issues which was hardware (vdeo card being replaced). Im not sure as of yet, if this is a Video card issue. I'm testing Windows 10 with the latest drivers from lenovo 7/15.

Hello friends,

I just signed in to the Lenovo forums for the first time. I bought a new Thinkpad X1 Carbon about 6 weeks ago. This morning I got a blank screen, very disturbing considering my expectations for this expensive laptop.  No matter what I did, the screen would not wake up. I finally held the start button down until the laptop shut off. I restarted it and everything is working fine.  I'm just concerned and puzzled that this would ever happen.

Does it indicate that there is a problem with the device? Or could it be a Windows 10 issue or some browser blip?

Nice to be here. I have high hopes for this forum. I live only 15 minutes from the Lenovo USA headquarters, and remember fondly the old IBM days and the friends who worked there. Hope there is some legacy that remains from those days.

Thanks, Bill in Durham, North Carolina

Answer:New X1 Carbon with blank screen

It might be a windows 10 problem related to shutdown or sleep. Look in the event log for a problem device.

I have a X1 Carbon Gen2, 20A70037US.  I think that my screen is slowly going bad.  Its still working fine, but will occasionally start to grey to nothing.  If I softly touch the bottom of the screen, it will sometimes come back.  Its out of warranty, but I've fixed other laptop screens in the past (thanks for the service videos).  I just want to know I'm ordering and switching the right parts for this problem.  Can any of you give me some FRU part number guidance for this problem?

I admit, I factory wiped and installed a fresh install of Win 10 Pro upon receiving my Carbon X1 4th gen laptop to remove all bloatware. Ever since, a couple of times a day when my laptop is idle (we have a 30 minute lock GPO policy) and plugged into the OneLink+ docking station, the screen stays black and the computer is unresponsive. It doesn't happen every time the computer goes idle but fairly often. They laptop keyboard still will toggle the LED lights on caps lock, FnLk, and backlit keyboard, but nothing will show up on the screen. Only way to get by it is to hold down the power button and hard reset the machine. I've checked Event Viewer for any oddities and can't find anything. Any help is appreciated because hard resetting my machine 2-3x a day is not practical.

Recently my trusted X1 Carbon, which had a normal battery life after about 5 years of use, of about an hour or so.  Recently this suddenly changed to 15 mins so I thought it was time to change the battery.  After buying a "new" battery off of eBay, giving it a full charge and pulling the power cable to test it something strange happened... It first said that there was approximately 2+ hours of normal operation, so I continued to use it.  It seemed to operate normal but after about 50 mins or so when the battery was apparenly at 68%, it just jumped to 15% and went into low power mode. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the battery or is there an underlying issue? Any drivers or firmware I should be upgrading. Thanks in advanceKW

I was recently given a Lenovo X1 Carbon and it has Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.104). The USB port on the right side, which I believe is the 3.0 port doesn't function. When I connect a flash drive to this port, the light on flash drive comes on for couple of seconds and turns of. I am not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. Here is the screenshot of USB controllers in Device manager. I read previous threads with similar issues, but did not find a solution. (I tried to unisntall device drivers, restart and re-install the drivers. It did not help)

Answer:Issue with USB 3.0 port on Lenovo X1 Carbon 3444 -BDU

The USB port on the right is on a separate audio card. I have seen them fail. I would first examine the port and look for bent pins

Hi everyone, I have a X1 Carbon 3443CTO and it's running fine. Last night everything was ok and I went into the BIOS and changed AHCI to compatibility (don't ask me why, I was doing some testing), then I went "Exit and Save Changes" (at the last page of BIOS). As soon as I press Enter the screen freezed there (as opposed to reboot) Since it hangs there I hold the power button and it shutdown. Then I power it up again, but now, here is the problem:1) The computer turns ON, keyboard backlight flash on for a second (normal)2) Screen stays blank (no, it's not the backlight faulty)3) power light turns ON (normal)4) no sign of activities pressing any buttons, no beep sound I am not sure what the problem is but it feels it's due to BIOS setting I did that caused the problem. Would someone please help me to resolve this (urgent)? Many thanks!!! John

I just have the same issue on my X1 Carbon, mine is 20A7-002WUS.Got it in May, being using it just fine, no dropped, it's been baby pretty much. I left Canada for Taiwan just yesterday for 3 month vacation...and at the aiport while I was waiting to board...it wouldnt boot up...landed in Taiwan like 10 hrs ago, gave it another tried, same disapoointed result, the light just kepts on flasshing. Very disapointed by Lenovo product this time. I got tired of having to purchase an Asus every 2 years, so i got the X1 carbon this time, since their legendary business laptop quality...but this is very disappointed. And on top of this, the HDMI would not export audio signal. THere's a post for that too, and Lenovo tech had pretty much being useless for it. I work in IT industry as well, pretty much all the standard troubling shotting i've done along with a few "tips" from Lenovo, NONE of them work. Very disappointed. To be honest, if it isnt i've just spent like two gram canadian dollars on it like 5 month ago, I would very much like to set this thing on fire atm.

This is my third X1 (all different generations) and I was very happy up till now. The problematic one has a Skylake processor and 512GB SSD and it seemed like a really nice config. The problem is that it doesn't want to shutdown nor wake up from sleep.First symptom: when shutting down, the pc seems to have shut down, but is still draining battery. If the keyboard FN-lock button is lighted, you can notice that this stays on. Also the fan will stay on if it was running before. The keyboard is even still responsive and you can turn on and off the different LEDs.Second symptom: when the pc goes to sleep, there is no waking it up. Also here the keyboard stays responsive for fn-lock etc.I've tried many things: reinstall windows 10 from scratch, reset the bios, upgrade the bios. Then Lenovo was actually very helpful to start: they swapped out the motherboard and when that didn't work, shipped the pc to a repair center. From here it went downhil: the repair was done in less than 5 hours according to the ticket (so I was impressed) but when I got the pc back I noticed why: they didn't repair it. They put on an image of windows 7 and since there the problem was not visible, called it fixed. Very frustrating. I put back windows 10 and guess what: the problem was exactly the same. When they shipped the pc, they had created a new ticket in the system, closing the original one. Now they even closed the second ticket although I already commented that the pc still doesn't work as it is supposed... Read more

Hi,why have you decided laptop you are talking about is 3rd Generation? It's Gen1 based on a bit newer platform. That model (3460-35U) was listed within a PSREF.Broken screen in that laptop is HD+ (1600x900), model LG LP140WD2(TL)(E2), Lenovo FRU 04X1756 or ASM p/n 0A66692. Of course, you might replace it by another screen with a FRU from the fru_bom file you have linked.

My screen got vertical lines and dead last week. I sent the laptop to the service center to get a replacement. I got it back yesterday and found there are light bleeding out from the four cornors. And i feel the screen quality is not as good as the original one in terms of black level, viewing angle. Should I call back and let them redo it?  Another issue is that they reset or reinstalled the system (even though I removed my password). Not it looks different when the computer boots up. It was showing a white Lenovo logo in a pure black background. Not it starts with a thinkpad sign and then comes with the four ugly microsoft square logo. Is there anyway to let it go back to what it looked like before? ??

I just recently noticed that when my cursor goes into a certain area of my screen (about half and inch long and 2 inches wide) it highlights links and what not on a different part of the screen. When the links are highlighted and i click it won't do anything, but in file explorer i was able to select a folder and copy it while not even near it. This happens in browsers, word, file explorer, etc. When i'm on the desktop and i click in this certain area, the box that comes up when you click and drag on the desktop starts in a different area and then instantly moves to where the cursor actually is. My X1C 2012 model has been running perfectly with a Gigabyte GM-M7700B Bluetooth mouse - that was until the latest Lenovo Bluetooth driver upgrade.  ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPadVersion: 6.5.1.4500 This driver has introduced a double clicking issue with the left button of the mouse. I can't begin to describe how frustrating this problem is and the amount of work I have lost due to closing one page only to find that another program has also been closed. I have tired this mouse on my desktop, an Android tablet - no double clicking issue. The problem is not the mouse, after testing, the problem is not the internal Bluetooth module, the problem IS the new version of the Lenovo driver. It appears as though the driver is set-up that confirmation is set when the mouse button is pressed down - On contact. It also confirms when the button is let go - On release. This has nothing to do with the Broadcome Bluetooth module inside the X1C. I can turn off the Bluetooth module inside the X1C and plug in a Bluetooth receiver into one of the USB ports on the X1C and I can replicate the problem. This is a driver issue. I should also point out that I have uninstalled the Bluetooth driver and reinstalled it to get the same problem. When I turn on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 3 if it is unplugged, it will load normally to the lock screen and then the screen just turn black, the power button will flash on and off green, and nothing will happen even if I try to turn the power on.  If the laptop is plugged in, it will work normally and if unplugged after I log into the computer it works normally too.

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 3 screen turns black if turned on unplugged

This happens to me whether plugged or unplugged and I leave it sitting for a while. It seems to go into a super deep hibernation that refuses to wake up with the blinking green LED.So I actually have to HOLD the power button down for ~5 seconds, and restart the computer. I don't know if there is a solution but it might have to do with the power settings in Windows. The odd thing is that might not be true because I run Ubuntu as well and have the same issue so those Windows Power rules don't apply! Also, my firmware is the latest.

I am using G410 lenovo laptop. Windows 8.1I always use 'Power Button' to hibernate cos it's start and switch off much faster.I always use AC adapter and only use battery when necessary. It's was working fine until a few days ago when I press power button, and nothing is on screen, totally black and blank. Sometimes I only see the word "lenovo" then blank / black screen.1) What I did was hold the power button for a long time till it power off, then I waited for 5 mins then power on, few days ago that worked, but last night it didn't.I kept doing the same thing last night but it didn't work, I also tried just pressing the power buttton and waited and I felt it went to hibernate, cos I've done that a billion times. So, I figured it was the display problem.2) Today, I decided to plug the VGA cable to my desktop monitor and thank God, it showed my laptop screen on my desktop monitor, so I am very sure something is up with my laptop screen. What I did was to restart the laptop and thank God again, the display came out on my laptop, so then...3) I change the "what the power button will do", I've selected "Shut down" instead hoping that if it shuts down and power up my display will show.Question:Will I have to get my laptop monitor checked?Should all data in my laptop should also be backed up?cos I will need to buy a big external hard disk now.. Answer:Lenovo G410 Laptop Blank Screen Black Screen Problem

It sounds like either the LCD cable or Backlight are needing to be checked, and possibly replaced.  This is not somthing most users can easily accomplish and would require the unit be sent to a service center for diagnosis and repair.

I would advise contacting Lenovo Support via phone and determine the nearest service center that you can use, then get a quote.

When my W500 is on battery power and idle for 3 minutes the screen will flicker once then when I press a key it will blank briefly again before I can continue using the system. this drove me crazy for over a year, but I finally found the answer: Once again (I am a long time thinkpad user) Lenovo has shot their own foot.  To save battery power the default setting is to adjust the refresh rate to 50Hz after three minutes idle. If you are a writer, nothing is more irksome than having to wait for your screen to blank everytime you go back to type! go to:  Control Panel -> Power Options Select Power Manager tab then click "Launch Power Manager" In the "Power Manager" click the "Power Schemes" tabthen press the "edit" button to edit the currently selected scheme (or whichever one you want to remove flicker from)Press the "Next" buttonthen click "Lower display refresh rate" under battery settings and select "NEVER"  Ugh.    All of the Wizards that Lenovo adds for managing desktop schemes, backups, etc. are just buggy.the bios is buggy too, screen blank on reboot, resolution resizing when switching locations. All the way around, Lenovo starts with a solid peice of hardware, and proceeds to destroy its robustness, with poorly executed features.      (Not that you are reading this Lenovo, but there is a lesson in this!) anyway, I hope this helps some other poor souls out there! --dan... Hi all, I got a new X1 Carbon mid March and am now having pretty severe problems with it. It first started a few days ago with this within Windows: Click to see larger I rebooted it and it came good. Now today, it did it again so I rebooted it and it started not being able to boot. It would get to the first Lenovo screen where it says 'Press enter to interrupt normal startup' the screen would go corrupted and it'd reboot. So I went into the BIOS to run Lenovo Diagnostics and whenever I press enter on Lenovo Diagnostics it just reboots again. Sometimes when it reboots, the green light on the power button flashes a few times, the keyboard flashes and then it all goes dark and does that for 5-10 times before booting. Now most times (say 19/20 times) it tries to boot, it does 'Preparing automatic repair' but it is frozen and as you can see below it is broken: Click to see larger Out of the 1 of 20 times it manages to get into Windows, I get: Click to see larger In terms of specs, this is the highest end X1 Carbon with the i7, 2580x1440 touch screen, 8gb RAM and 512gb ssd if that helps at all? The model# specifically is: 20A7-A008AU with a S/N of R9-009TXX (last 2 digits truncated). All I have done so far is managed to update the BIOS before it crashed again. With the Y40-80 I purchased.  It was running great for a few months, then while playing Final Fantasy Online it went to a blue screen, and the only part I could read from what I remember was "Video Security Handler" I think, before it went blank.  Since then, I haven't had a picture on it.   Its pre-installed with Win8.1 64bit.  I've tried the Novo button, but who knows if thats working with a blank screen.  Also, tried connecting an HDMI cable from the laptop to one of my other monitors with no luck.  I was curious if anyone else has run into this problem?

I was trying to remedy the "plugged in but not charging" problem, clicked on something in the power section in a screen that came up after clicking on the power icon, and the screen went blank. I tried re-starting. I removed the battery and AC and held the power button for 30s. No change. When I power up, everything seems normal until the Lenovo splash screen comes up, the spinny dots start going, then the screen goes blank and stays blank. If I pull the AC, the screen  blinks on for 0.1 second before the machine dies. HELP!

I have a G500 Ideapad that will not boot or boot to the bios no matter what I try. It goes directly to a blank screen (back light is on monitor but nothing appears) no matter which button I push to turn it on. The Lenovo screen does not appear. I have removed everything including the hard drive, reseated the ram and the processor and have even unplugged the cmos battery after removing the main battery for days and it still will not go to bios. This happened two other times but I was able to get it to go to bios. I have upgraded from win 8.1 to 10.

I tried the hard reset. Nothing. I even tried to put another hard drive from another computer in but still get that maddening blank screen right after turning on. Trying Fn + F1 or F2 does nothing. I would love if someone has some idea I can try to get to the bios I have not tried.

HDMI Cable has diff. types and speed. The one you have right now might not be  compatible with the system.

I suggest bringin the system to a Local Computershop and tryout some of the HDMI Cables.

I booted up my system and all I get is the circular loading animation. I proceeded with a hard reset (20 seconds on the power button) and re-tried booting the system back up. Then it started back up, seemingly normal, with the prompt below it saying, press any key within ... seconds to skip disk scan. I allowed it to continue, then "LENOVO" came on the screen and "Scan disk and repair 100%". After that the screen is blank and all I see is the cursor. As the move the cursor around on the screen I see it change from the regular cursor, to the typing one, and then to the pointed finger. I'm not super tech savvy and would really appreciate some help! The keyboard seems functional, the lights for the touch inductive panel respond, but without the screen on, it seems impossible to know whats going on. Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

hello chaps,

I'd be grateful if you could help troubleshoot an issue with my samsung r20 laptop. I'm typing this message from my iPhone which, as you can imagine, is quite tiresome.

The laptop isloaded with vista and has been working fine for nearly 2 years. A few days ago I turned it on one morning and there was a blank screen and no other activity. The power is on and it makes the same noises like it's attempting to boot but the hdd light never comes on and I can't here the drive spinning. I therefore can't even get to the bios screen.

My question is - is this a hdd problem or a screen problem? If it's a hdd issue how do I go about confirming that and possibly recovering the data?

Cheers

Answer:blank screen - hdd issue?

A hard drive issue would not affect your ability to get into bios. You do not even need a hard drive connected to enter bios. try plugging it into a monitor to see if yours has gone out.

Question: blank screen issue

Hello all,

My brothers computer is running windows 7 home edition and has been working great since he upgraded a couple months ago. To his dismay this morning when he went to use it the screen was blank with a movable mouse cursor, after a forced restart upon rebooting there was no windows loading screen of any kind just an almost instant blank screen with a movable mouse cursor. I am fairly computer savy so i tried to press f8 to see if i could get access to safe mode. Every force restart leads to the same thing even when i put the windows installation disk to see if it could boot up to the disk for a repair. If its any help i tried to press SHIFT 5 times to see if the "Sticky keys" window would pop up and it did. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Tyler

Does Lenovo test the drivers they release any more? I just updated the touchpad driver today and the two finger scrolling is locked to the same setting whether you pick Traditional or Standard in the setting menu. Latest Intel Graphics Driver Lenovo released causes Youtube video to freeze in Chrome and they still haven't released an update even though Intel already did. My X1 Carbon 3rd gen has screen flicker/freeze issue after waking up from sleep. I submitted a ticket a week ago and hear absolutely nothing. According to other member, even replacing motherboard doesn't fix it. I am really started to regret my purchase.

hi Ecstatix,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From the scenario that you just said, it looks like there's a problem with the hard drive. I recommend running a hardware scan on the HDD. I personally use UltimateBootCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com) for the diagnostics. Video usage here.and here. Click here for details or:follow the stes below:

1. Download the the UBCD ISO (www.ultimatebootcd.com)
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD

To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide

Note:
If you find any errors, you will need to change the HDD. If don't have a recovery or restore disc, you can obtain one by contacting the Lenovo Technical Suport. Support phone list here.

Hope this helps

I would press the power button and the fan and the power lights come on but the screen doesn't turn on and then then it just shuts off completely. No error message or anything. It just repeats that automatically several times while the charger is plugged in until it just stays on but the screen remains off and keyboard commands are unresponsive. If the charger isn't plugged in then it just turns on then shuts off and stays off until I press the power button again.I've already taken apart the laptop and ensured everything is connected properly and also removed the battery and held the power button down to do a power cycle but still nada. Yesterday I had this issue with my Lenovo R400 and I alredy solved but i want to post the solution on this forum for other people.  The ProblemMy laptop entered in hibernation mode and in the morning that i tried to turn it on it didnt. I pushed the power button i see the lights of 1 and A turned on and off twice, but didnt show the boot screen.. The screen was blank doing nothing. Solution 1Disconnect the power cable and battery and push the power button 11 times and in the 11th push the button for 30 seconds. Connect power and push power button. Then you can connect the battery. Solution 2 (The one that helped me)Removed the power cable, the battery and the internal battery of CMOS and let it disconnected all for 15 hours. I dont now the exact time that it have to be disconected but i read a post saying 15, maybe with few hours if enought.  Then you connect the cable and push F1 (until beeps)  and turn on the Laptop to enter in Supervisor Mode to set date and time F10 and exit. Connect the CMOS's battery and normal battery and is all. WARNINGIf you reset the CMOS and the laptop have a Supervisor Password enabled and you dont have it  you will be in big problems. Mine laptop didnt have it. I was luck because i didnt know it. Without the Supervisor password you cant set the date/time and the laptop wont boot again. You will need to change the MotherBoard. Or maybe you can find another solution but wont be easy. So be carefull about... Read more

When turn on, screen is black. Used to be able to take battery out and it would work about 50% of the time when plugged it. Currently screen will not turn on regardless of power source, battery in or out, have tried display on/off button, f8. Nothing. Power and special buttons light up but nothing on the screen. Have tried connecting another monitor as had used majority of time in past and additional monitor cannot sense anything hooked up to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

My two year old Flex 2 suddenly wont turn on.   The power button lights up and the fan starts but the screen remains black.  I have let the power drain completely (you cannot remove the battery)  pressed the power button for 15sec x 4 then connected to the charger and still a blank screen.   the last timed I did attempt a "hard restart", everytime I held the power button a loud bleep occured which stopped when I let go of the power button.   Its warranty has expired and im not very knowledgable.  I am happy to send it away to be looked at, just dont know the best place to send it in the UK.  Any help?N

My lenovo G580, i switched on wednesday 27th Sept 2017 and when I tried putting it on, on the 29th sept 2017, it refused to come on. Tested the adapter on Multimeter, its okay. When I press the power button, the light on top comes on and I hear a beep sound, then nothing. Tried methods of holding down the power button 10 times at a second interval, then 30seconds, still no help. Tried pressing shift and F8 together and pressing the power on, continued pressing the shift and F8, still no results. Tried connecting using USB to HDM but no success. Please help. Thank you in advance Pamela

computer was working fine.  then next day started it,  it would boot up to windows screen ( I use "old" windows screen rather than win8 charms screen.)  screen would freeze in transit to using internet or other computer apps like office.  would have to shutdown by holding down power button.  tried to use one touch recovery button.  it would freeze during steps.   within an hour of trying to recover along with power drain steps, upon pushing power button, power button lights up,keyboard buttons blink on, front power light is on(white) along with battery status light on(white). screen is black/blank plugged in external monitor and it is blank i called lenovo and they said out of warranty and probably motherboard or video card and they would charge $400 to fix what is problem and potential fixes.

My g570 was working fine but I fell asleep with it and when I woke up the screen is just a whitefish blueish color and won't display anything. I have no idea what to do. Help

Answer:lenovo g570 screen blank on startup

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

When you fell asleep with it did the cooling vents get blocked?  If so, the laptop may have overheated and received damage.  I assume you have tried rebooting and there is no change in the screen display.  I would try clearing the CMOS to see if that will bring back some life to the laptop.  Just follow this procedure......
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, when you reboot, do you hear any hard drive activity?  If so, try connecting an external monitor to the laptop to see if that is displaying the proper Windows screens. Maybe your laptop's display has failed.

If there is so no change then I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for additional service.

Well, as the topic suggests, my laptop has a blank screen after the lenovo logo when I power it on. The only thing that shows up is a blinking underscore. Please help.

Answer:100 15iBD - blank screen after lenovo logo

Hi Daisuke ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number ? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.

Best way to proceed is to isolate the issue . You can shutdown the PC and unplug the ac adapter , remove the battery (if removable) and press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining power .
Use the Novo button instead to turn on where you expect to see the Novo Menu . Choose BIOS set up and verify if the harddrive is detected . You can F9 to reload defaults and F10 to save and exit.

If the BIOS screen and tabs are working then we are safe to conclude that on the machine level , the laptop is working so that would now lead us to Boot issue either bad windows start up or bad display driver.

Try to connect it to any available external monitor  ( press any FN keys to toggle if needed ex. FN + F10 ).
Any display on the external?  How is pressing ctrl alt del , any changes ? Tap on caps/ num lock ,see if any indicator led going on off too.

Update us how it goes.

Regards
