X220, wifi disconnects after latest bios/driver updates

Question: X220, wifi disconnects after latest bios/driver updates

I've had no issues with my X220 for the past few years, been running great to the point that I completely stopped updating the drivers or the bios...

About a month ago I decided to do an upgrade in the System Update software, just get everything up to date. That included the latest bios, and all the other drivers...

Now since I've had an annoying issue with the WiFi (Intel 6205), where after coming out of sleep, it will disconnect from the WiFi after 15-30 minutes randomly. It ALWAYS happens, and it doesnt matter if it's idle, or downloading or streaming anything. It doesnt reconnect on its own, i have to cycle the wifi switch and it will reconnect, and stay connected for the remainder of time until i put it to sleep again.

There was another WiFi update since, and I installed it, and it didn't help... It's not an access point issue, as I've tried this on several WiFi routers and it does it every time...

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I dont feel like reinstalling, as everything other than this works perfectly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After taking the latest recommended updates (why do I do it?) external mouse and keyboard now have problems. The keyboard is especially annoying and it inserts multiple key-repeats. It's infrequent but enough to really annoy. Please fix ASAP.

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

Answer:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

Compatriots, I have a Lenovo X-220 that currently has a wireless N card installed. A few days ago, checking System Update, I noticed the updated driver for Intel Wireless Cards (version 16.1.3, details available here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS036007) which expressly indicates support for Intel's AC 7260 wireless card and expressly for the X220. I was previously aware of the whitelisting issues with unsupported mPCI wireless cards on Lenovo systems, but understood this update to indicate that Lenovo was adding support for the AC 7260, correcting the issue experienced by folks earlier in the year. Accordingly, I ordered one and was somewhat surprised this evening to still receive the message "1802 unauthorized network card is plugged in.  Power off and remove the miniPCI network card". Can anyone shed light on this?  Is there some other step I need to take to make this work?  Or have Lenovo actually issued a new driver expressly indicating support for the card while neglecting to update the BIOS whitelist to enable it to work.....? Any advice appreciated. Greg

Answer:X220 and Intel AC 7260 Wireless with Latest Driver

Hi Greg_S, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

I too want to believe that a software update makes my old X220 support a newer wireless card! But I'm pretty sure the release note means the software supports all those cards respectively in the systems they are built into, and not that it magically makes all those cards work in all those systems!

Hope this helps!

I am trying to get this Yoga 14 up to date.  First, I was surprised that runs Windows 10 home vs. pro but that is what it is. However here is my question. The bios on the unit as shipped is 1.2 and is from the JFET43WW family. The latest bios listed is 1.3 from the R05ETxxW family (per the readme) and the filename is r05uj03ww.  Perhaps this is Lenovo's way, but all the prior bios history for that family is under JFETxxWW. Is this the right bios? The latest NIVIDA/Intel driver listed states that " *This driver can be only used on ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14 Broadwell(BIOS ID:JFETxxWW)". So.....can the latest video driver be used with the latest bios which per the readme (and filename) is NOT from the JFETxxWW family? Hopefully I am posting in the right place.  I have been underwhelmed with phone support where "hardware" support will only answer hardware questions and "software support" is "premium" and they want you to pay when this system is only a week old.  Not sure where else to go for answers.  Also have issues with expresscache as....well..they shipped it with windows 10 and with an SSD and no expresscache.  But that is another post.... Thanks, BJB

Hello Im a new user of a Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop I recently bought and I have a question about the Wifi driver for this computer. My x220 has installed the "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" Wifi card running in a "Windows 7 x64 bit" system, and when I go to download the latest updated drivers from "support.lenovo.com" it gives 3 options in the "Networking Wireless LAN" section where I think the correct one for my card is marked in this picture:http://imgur.com/UqLwENow if that is the correct driver for my Wifi card my question is if it is right that the Wifi driver is a 500MB file.... I want to check with more experienced Thinkpad users if that is correct and that is the file I need to download and install.Because if I go to the official Intel website I find the driver for my Wifi card is version 15.1.1 dated 5/3/2012 with a 25MB file which seems a bit more logic for a driver file.So which driver should I download and install? I dont use the autoupdater lenovo driver manager software because I like to personally download and store all my drivers with all my computers, so any hint or clue about this question would be appreciated, because like I said it is probably the first time in my life I see a 500MB driver file, thats humongous to put an adjetive. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Question about x220 Wifi driver

The primary reason this package is so large is that it contains drivers for multiple intel adapters for both 64 and 32 bit OS's for Windows 7, Vista , and XP.  It's sort of an all-in-one package. If you use Access Connections use this package, if not then either this or the driver from the Intel website will work fine.

To clarify, is the update utility not downloading and installing the driver successfully? Have you tried downloading the driver for you specific machine from the Intel/lenovo site and to the desktop and installing from there? This has sometimes worked better than the update utilities.

The "My WiFi Isn't Working Right" Syndrome! When I go to a public place and try to connect to WiFi, there's nearly always a problem including the following symptoms: It connects but states there's no Internet Access It connects but I have to pound-out 10-20 internet addresses before it'll provide the Login page; e.i., the page where you sign away your ability to sue the establishment should your computer be junked.  Like McDonald's, Denny's, etc. No connection occursMy question/statement is this: Is there really so many different routers and connectivity protocols that we can't develop a driver to recognize what needs done, then do it?  How were we able to send men to the moon, and get them back, yet 50+ years later can't even connect to a router with our laptop?  AND YES, it comes down to very simple programming, I can prove it, hire me for three months and you'll have it HP!  This becomes so ridiculous and frustrating yet such a simple task and if one company would master this feat, they'd become PC provider of all.   I seriously stand by and advocate HP Computers and Service but this aspect (of all laptop's, not just HP's) is a definite issue that has potential to yield a forerunner in PC's when resolved and is an overdue problem that needs resolution quick! Glenn T. Hi Guys

I installed the updates last night and my keyboard stopped working. I then did a system restore and it worked again, so I tried running the updates again and the same thing happened. I have an old HP 9120 rf wireless keyboard which I like enough to want to try and keep. I can't find any hp drivers, but the driver that is installed now is just a standard ps/2 keyboard driver. After the updates there was no keyboard device listed.

I am sick of doing a system restore, so do I just find a new driver and install it after the updates with my mouse, or do I need to work out which update it is (or just buy a new keyboard)

I have Windows 7 64 bit.

thanks

Hello There - Ever since I upgraded to Win 10 the day it was released The HP driver download page, with the exception of the Bios ( Oct. 6, 2016 ), refuses to update their drivers. All of the drivers offered are anywhere from 15 to 19 months old, some of them were released only a couple weeks after win 10, which is ridiculas. Also the site seems to be missing several of the driver catagories period. The HPSA site is rather worthless also, since it has never updated a thing, including itself. Using the device manager is all right for doing a quick update here and there on occasion, but there are tons of related drivers and it becomes a drawn-out royal pain to go through all of them. As well as constantly going to vendor sites checking for newer updates. I have reset my PC to factory settings numerous times and still cant get any of the HP sites to cooperate at all. Please advise what I may be doing wrong or how I can find an up to date HP update page, or how I can force them to update themselves. I'll appreciate any and all suggestions - Thank You - GoldenG8 -

Hi guysHave an issue with an X220 where the system was ready to be sent to the user, I did system update the night before deploying which included a firmware update, next morning the wifi was disabled. (original bios 1.28 I think, new bios 1.4).The wifi card is no longer detected by the system at all, indicating the firmware has disabled the card. I managed to force it back to a previous BIOS revision but the issue persists, I then rolled to 1.4 official again and have tried the modded bios v1.4 (without wifi whitelist).I have tried the original card in a different unit and it works, and have tried the spare units wifi card (same model card) in this X220, also not detected. So it seems the BIOS is still blocking all similar Intel cards. Interestingly if I try a Broadcom card from a different model Lenovo, it is detected in the mini wifi slot.So this confirms the slot is operational.I cannot use it however since it is a full size card and does not fit in the mini wifi section in the x220.Last idea I had was to try all the cards in the 2nd (full length) slot but that will not pick up any Wifi cards at all. Anybody have an idea where to look to enable the Intel cards again? I have seen mention of a pin which is used for this but surely with the modded bios this should not be an issue? Note that with any of the intel cards inserted no devices are detected in Dev Man, and no option to switch them on via Fn+F5 (wifi option missing) Thanks for any suggestion... Answer:X220 wont detect Intel mini wifi, detects full size Broadcom, BIOS 1.43 w/o whitelist

HiWhat's the wifi card model, its p/n, Lenovo FRU? If this card isn't approved to use in x220, do you get the lock screen with error 1802 message during the laptop booting with original BIOS? Regarding the patched BIOS any question should be addressed to its author, it's not a deal of this official forum.BIOS v.1.4 wasn't released ever. Intitial, factory released version 1.04 dated 2011 year is outdated. The recent version is 1.43. It's impossible to rollback this version to any previous version, 1.28 including.

Hi All, I think I have encountered with a few flaws that could be related with BIOS 1.28 and/or UltraNav 15.3.39.1 The symptoms are mainly related to sleep mode, as follows: 1) Sometimes after I press Fn+F4 the screen will go off and seems the machine is preparing to sleep, but it never enters sleep.2) Sometimes after sleep, the TrackPoint and TouchPad will not work. Pressing Fn+F8 will show message "UltraNav driver not installed".3) Sometimes, only after a sleep and wakeup, the wireless (Intel 6205 with driver 14.3.0.6) will lose response and halt for a while. After a while the wireless will be working again, may require a disable/enable cycle or may not. All these happened after I upgrade to 1.28 BIOS. With 1.26 everything works perfectly. And the symptom 1 happens only after I installed the new UltraNav driver. So I think they may related to BIOS or the UltraNav driver. BTW, there is a disturbing problem with the UltraNav driver, long not resolved. If I am using the middle button to scroll the content of a window, and the window freeze during scrolling, the mouse will get stuck. Only after the window unfreeze itself of force kill the window will bring back mouse. This is a rare case but truly disturbing since I will not be able to handle the freezed window with mouse. Anybody had the same experience?

Answer:X220 Problems possibly related with BIOS 1.28 and/or UltraNav driver 15.3.39.1

Can you please try going back to BIOS 1.26, but keep the latest Ultranav driver, and let me know if you still have the same problems?

Greetings, I have installed the latest driver from here http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71571.exe .My laptop is running windows 10 x64. The taskbar icon show a red mark on the wifi connection button. when i click on the wifi connections buttons - it doesnt list even one Wifi connection. It says no WiFI networks found eventhough there are couple of active SSIDs and all other devices at my home can connect to it. On the device manager - i see the driver version is 5.0.57.0 published on 5/18/2015. Is this the latest driver? .I tried the latest driver from mediatek too, without much success.  Anybody faced similar issues?

Hello all! Every single day since my last windows 8 update (perhaps 2weeks ago)  I have been having my wifi drop out. The only way I can reconnect to the network is if I do a series of shutdowns or restarts or plug out my wireless router. It's getting very frustrating. Before 2 weeks ago the problem would occur only once a month or when the computer went to sleep.  I did install the latest driver and it's still happening. None of the other computers in the house have this issue so I KNOW that it's this laptop. Are there any other suggestions? Will upgrading to Windows 8.1 solve this issue finally or will I just run into more and other complications? Thanks

Ever since updating my BIOS I have had issues with all my USB connected Diskdrives, these include thumb drives IOMEGA devices as well as a SSD in a drive toasted. ALl worked before the updates BTW, all of these device work in other machines also. I have tried different ports I have connected them to the ports on the docking station as well as the PC. THe USB ports work they just do not like disk drives at this time. I have tried all of the following: WIthin Device manager delete all of the USB devices , reboot and let them get re built. Witihin device manager do as above then delelte infcache.1 file from windows/system32/driverstore and then reboot, this requils the infcache driver still no good. Now I am considering usinag a older USB driver from the Lenovo webbiste. Mabe someone on this board can offer some additional suggestions, one that is not a option is re-install windows.

Answer:W530 latest BIOS and other driver update issues specifically Error COde 10 on all USB disk drives

Try checking in a bootable Linux environment to see if it happens there. If it does, it's probably the BIOS, which you can revert to an earlier version. If it doesn't happen, try installing the latest Intel chipset package as found from Intel's Download Center.

Hello, I have a user with an X220, running Windows 7 SP1 (x64) with Access Connections 5.84, utilising the Ericsson F5521GW WWAN card. The user is experiencing random disconnects when using the 3G and as this is a remote user, he heavily relies on this service. We have had our supplier send the user a new SIM card, in case that was faulty but this has not resolved the issue. The obvious next step would be to replace the WWAN card but again, he is a remote user and would need to come in to head office or send it in, which will not be ideal. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and if so, how it was resolved. Kind RegardsBarry J. The only known solution is to replace it with Sierra Wireless (Gobi 3000) one.

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

This may sound like a daft/newby question, but just how important is it to carry out these tasks? Do I need to update every driver for every component (eg CD drive, soundcard etc.)? The only driver I've changed so far has been for the graphics card. Any advice appreciated.

Answer:How often should I carry out driver/BIOS updates?

I take the boring view that if a component is working fine and provides all the facilities I use/want then I leave alone until an update offers something I actually want rather than miniscule theoretical improvements.

I had some trouble switching to external monitor and back. There are updated NVIDIA drivers availiable, but readme says to make sure BIOS is upgraded to "7KETB7WW/7LETB7WW or higher". In the downloads section for R61 with 15.4" display, I don't actually see my model, 8914-CTO, listed. Or in any of the other sections. I downloaded and tried the v2.18-1.08 upgrade found there (brinksmanship??), but I get an error dialog saying "BIOS image file cannot be found". Anybody able to shed light on this? Is there just no upgrade available for my machine at this time? Thanks,-BG

The ThinkPad BIOS 2.21-1.08 and NVIDIA driver 6.14.11.7471 updates are linked such that the NVIDIA driver cannot be installed without the BIOS update. Do these updates contain any workarounds to the recent NVIDIA manufacturing defects?  If so, what are the workarounds? Do these updates reduce video performance to prolong the life of the video chip? Is the system fan used more intensively after the update?

Answer:T61P BIOS and NVIDIA driver updates

Dell's and HP's solution to the the nVidia Chip issue was to run the fan on hi all the time, so you might want to wait unltil you get an answer!

Dear Lenovo experts!
I purchased my s10-3t in November 2010. Initially I got problem with the secondary portrait orientation in the tablet mode, but complete reinstallation (as kindly advised by yigit at this forum) of the system (Windows 7) using Onekey Recovery solved the problem. If somebody is interested, please see my messages of December 2010. Since then my laptop works perfectly.
Now I have two additional simple (I hope so) questions:
1) For my another Lenovo laptop, Thinkpad T400, I got a program called ThinkVantage Productivity Center, which is able (along with many other functions) to automatically update the system. It scans the system and suggests to update drivers, BIOS and other Lenovo programs where applicable. Does anything similar exist for s10-3t? It looks  to be a sad and time-consuming procedure to check manually all the drivers at this page compare them to the existing drivers at my system and to manually update where needed.
2) I found here not few posts reporting problems after BIOS update. Is it worth trying to update the BIOS if my s10-3t works perfectly with the old one? The parameters of my system are:
BIOS:  Lenovo 24CN61WW  11-Aug-10
SMBIOS 2.5
System model: 20040M18
Windows 7 (32bit)
Thank you.

On the Toshiba driver page you can find the driver in the ?Archive? area.
Did you check it?

Hi,

My question is: How can I determine if a downloadable application offered by a Web site is indeed safe (i.e., not malware or spam) before I actually do download and install the program?

Here are the gory details: I was curious about updates to my computer's BIOS and drivers, so I searched Google and turned up a web-site that offers a download that scans your computer to determine the current BIOS and driver versions, then provides a checklist showing which are up-to-date and which aren't. I ran it and it looks pretty neat (http:driveragent.com). It also provides links to download the updates. (Unfortunately, that costs about $30 for a year's subscription.) It's not just that I'm broke, it's also kind of scary.

My question may be foolish, especially since I downloaded and installed the program that does the checking without knowing anything about it. But I'd really like to know if there is a way to determine how safe a downloadable application is "before" actually downloading and installing it.

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing your advice.

Answer:Downloading BIOS update & driver updates safely

hello & welcome to TSF ,

driveragent is a very safe place to get your drivers from .....

i have a standing subscription with them for i do alot of repairs on a daily basis and trust them greatly and it is so much quicker & easier for me !!

now the best way you can get your drivers for free is to go to the home site of the manufacturer of the pc you have or the for the hardware that you have installed & to know the types of software you are using that require specific drivers like (Realtek AC/97audio & nVidia video & ATI chipsets & Intel & AMD ) and so many more that are used to run certain applications on a pc / there is quite a few that Microsoft offers thru the update site/plus many other trusted sites that you can get them from

but you need to know the specific driver that you need for you can get a driver that may look like the one that you need but rather is for a diifernt application and then you are then going to create a driver conflict and then you have issues on your pc and have to trouble shoot to find the issue

for you see some drivers for one hp will work on a dell , but then they wont for certain hp computers /then you have some dell drivers that will work on a hp or many differnt hps

then you have the differnce of having a laptop from a desktop

so the need to know is very inportant & can be time comsuming

i hope that i have shed a little light on the subject for you

so what drivers are you wantin... Read more

TEMPRO has given me 2 new drivers but neither has instructions.

BIOS installation used to be an operation involving copying the driver to a disc and then changing the boot-up order to start with that disc.
However I think the new BIOS drivers are installed with Windows running - as a normal program. Anyone know for sure ?

I assume the wifi driver is a normal install, with wifi switched on or off ?

Answer:Satellite L350-277 - Update of new BIOS and Wifi driver

Hi

Just one question;
Is a WLan driver update and BIOS update necessary?
I mean; do you have any problems with your notebook where such update would be required?

You should not update this if everything is OK. in most case the Tempro notifies you about drivers and tools which are uploaded to the driver page but this is not a recommendation for an update? you know what I mean????

I follow always this tip; never change a running system.

I just updated my X220 with the latest "Hotkey Features Integration" 3.84.1500 driver. However, I started to notice that the function which brings my off-screen windows back is gone. Digging deeper, I saw this line in the change log: [Important] Removed Auto Scroll sub package. This function is provided by a separate package. Why was this removed? And I can't find the separate package for this. For the X230 however, I saw the "Auto Scroll Utility" in its drivers, but X220 isn't under its supported systems. Is Lenovo going to bring back this utility for the X220, or will it be condemned to eternal hell?

Dell will soon be releasing updated desktop docking stations that are compatible with Type C and Thunderbolt systems.   These docks may require that you update your system's BIOS and install docking station drivers before they will function properly.   Older BIOS versions or lack of docking station drivers could result in the dock not being recognized by your system or not working as expected.   Once released, these docking station drivers and updated BIOS versions will be available on support.dell.com for supported laptop systems.

Hey Guys, on my T540p, I configured the rapid start technology according to  http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/rapid_start_technology_user_guide.pdf Since I have performed a BIOS update to 2.14  and an update of the Intel Wifi driver to 17.0.5, I experience the problem of battery drain when the computer is in S4 sleep state, at a rate of approximately 0.125% per hour (on the 56Wh battery). This was not the case before these updates. There was no noticable power drain in S4 sleep state, even not over multiple days. I'm using Win7, I set all the WoL capabilities both in BIOS and in the Intel driver to disabled, according to  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Battery-drain-when-powered-down-Y410P/td-p... External device USB charge settings are also fully disabled in BIOS and Power Manager. The problem does not occur when the system is fully shut down, but in S4 Sleep state, which should be a zero-power state too, as it was before the updates. In the details of the BIOS update it is stated " Fixed an issue where the computer might fail to enter sleep state". Could the power drain be a side effect of this fix? Or is it an issue with the (new) Wifi driver, as it was the case for the Y410P? How could this battery drain be avoided? Has anybody experienced the same issue?Best, Martin

So I successfully installed a total of 20 Windows updates for my Windows 7 x64 installation on Tuesday 11, 2014. I think 18 of them were "important" and 2 were "recommended" for x64 systems.

Now I have received four additional update notifications through Windows Update, one at a time. I installed the first without giving it much thought, after which I was asked to reboot. Everything seemed fine after reboot until I tried my Firefox browser, it looked all wrong and I could no longer read any of the menu headings. It was essentially non-functional. Then I tried Internet Explorer 11. It simply failed with an error window indicating that it could not start and it was checking for a solution to the problem.

So then I tried to uninstall the update, and I receive a message that an error occurred and the un-installation was unsuccessful. So then I restored Windows from an image file I had just made, and all was well again of course.

When this update came back through Windows Update, I researched it a bit and was surprised to find that it was from 2012. Now it is possible that I missed an important or recommended update, but I know I've checked Windows Update numerous times between 2012 and now, and this never showed up before. I also doubt that I missed an important or recommended update since they are selected by default, and I don't deviate from that. Tried overclocking it, resetting to factory default, turning off WPA.

when it manages to connect, it disconnects me immediately.

From new I've always had issues with wifi disconnecting randomly on Chromebook N21.
It just seems to lose the network it's connected to. Wifi remains on, it searches for networks and seems to see all other available networks except for the one it was connected to. Eventually after a minute or 2 it reconnects and all is fine for a while. It's not specific to one particular router or network, same behaviour in different locations and networks.

Anyone had similar problems, any workaround or fixes?

If your using 802.1x Authentication please disable it by going into network and sharing center-then to your wireless adapter and click properties and disable it by unchecking it. If you not using that protocol your probably getting a weak signal from the router Netgear routers are known for that.

My sister has a laptop with windows 8 installed (up to date with all the latest Windows and drivers), a Cisco E4200 router, and Comcast cable.
Using the laptop the WiFi frequently loses connection. Going to Control Panel will allow you to select the network and reconnect each time. This happens much too often and she says has become a real pain. I installed a wireless printer yesterday for her and witnessed the problem first hand, twice within about 30 minutes. I downloaded and installed a firmware update to 1.0.0.5 for the router. I also ran a speedtest and the speed test shows 30mbps/5mbps which is exactly where it should be for her Comcast connection.
Is there anything that I should be looking for in the router specs/setup? Something to alter or change? I'm guessing that the problem is likely the router or it's setup.

I'm using a Hawking High-Game Wireless-G USB Dish Adapter to use the WiFi from my router.
The internet works fine with web browsing and downloading, yet when I try to play a game, it seems to just disconnect on me after playing for a few minutes.
I've tried this with a few games now, and just bought Guild Wars for my brother, but it's logging me out, telling me I lost connection with the server.
Is there a reason for this to happen in all the online games I play?

Answer:WiFi Disconnects During Games

Could be the router, the adapter, or the drivers.

I'd start by upgrading the drivers for the adapter to the latest available. Next, I'd upgrade the firmware on the router to the latest available and also reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it.

My friend's Win 7 laptop seems to drop the wifi connection when it goes to sleep, although she also says it sometimes drops it even if it has not slept. She is able to fix the issue by disconnecting from the wifi network, and reconnecting.

She bought an external USB wifi adapter, disabled the old one, but it did not fix the problem.

I went into Device Manager and the wifi adapter was not set to sleep to conserve power.

I also went into Power Options and set it to High Performance (still sleeping after an hour) and it is still the same.

She thinks, but is not sure, that the issue may have started when she got a new router/modem from Comcast. But other Win 7 computers in the house have no problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi all, I recently bought my first laptop (HP Streambook) and it's fine except for it constantly disconnecting from my wifi?
It only does this in my room (note that every other device I own can still pick up and keep a consistent connection in here), and when it picks up the connection, it only has 2-3 bars. It'll then go to 5 bars for about 30 secs, then disconnect completely. When I attempt to reconnect it may not work at all, or appear there with 2-3 bars again. I have reset the network card more times than I care to mention and any amount of troubleshooting won't help. I'm at my wit's end, any ideas?

Answer:WiFi constantly disconnects?

Welcome to the forum!

Honestly, not the top of the line when it comes to notebooks/laptops. Can't rule out that it simply has a weak wifi adapter and antenna. What adapter does it have? May need to update the drivers. How far are you from the router and are there walls in between?

Also be sure the adapter is not allowed to sleep and power saving mode is not enabled.

I can tell this because suddenly my pages are stuck loading and skype is trying to reconnect, but nothing happens until I manually disconnect.

I have tried
Troubleshooting But I usually get "Your proxy setting could not be recognized" or something, even though I don't have any proxy settings.Uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest driver for my wifi carddisabling power saving for the wifi card as talked about hereEverything mentioned on the Microsoft page here

This has been driving me crazy, ethernet works fine. I can connect my phone to wifi and tether it to my laptop, so this shouldn't be a problem with the router.

Hello, I have been having trouble with the WiFi connection on my laptop for quite a while now. It used to be that it would simply disconnect from wifi for now apparent reason, but I changed a few settings and now that seems to be resolved for the most part. I have a new problem though. The wifi tends to disconnect for just a couple of seconds occasionally, and then fix itself. It wouldn't be a problem, but the interupt is usually enough to kill my Skype calls (which I do a lot of) or any VPN connections I am on (which I also do a lot of). I have never been sure if it is just my college's network or not. It seems to mostly happen while I am here, but yet I don't know of anyone else who has this kind of trouble with the network. Any idea what would cause a momentary interuption in wifi? Thanks!

Answer:Wifi disconnects momentarily

I would need for you to do the following. Open a command window, and without the quotes, enter the following "netsh wlan show all". It will show A/P strength, driver info of your wlan adapter.

Now if it is at a college, it could just be that there is not enough coverage, along with the A/P's are too saturated, so people are getting kicked off.

Hey guys, I have had a recent problem with a new xfinity router I just got where my Inspiron computer running Windows 7 is connected to the router, but says no internet access. This happens often when I am browsing the web or watching a video, but not so much when I am not using the internet. The problem fixes itself usually in about 1 minute or so, or I can disconnect and reconnect to the router to fix it.
I also have a problem where my laptop disconnects from the router every time I shut the case. I open the laptop again, and a little popup shows up in the bottom left saying that no network adapter can be found, and the network thing on the task bar says no network connections can be found. This goes away after maybe 2 seconds or so, but the laptop does not connect to the wifi again until i tell it to. Neither of these seem to happen on other devices connected to the router. Thanks for all comments.

I need some serious help. I wasn't to use my computer again, but here's the issue. I'm using a Dell Inspiron One 2020 all in one PC, a computer strong enough to run League of Legends at 60fps, but that's about it. Considering the title, I'm sure you can guess my issue. Windows 10 has a horrible time keeping me on my WiFi. I know I should be using ether net, but I don't have that luxury quite yet. Downgrading to windows 8.1 or lower isn't an option because of the amount of stuff I have, and I don't want to lose it all. Even with a recovery option, Microsoft has screwed me over, so I'm not taking the chance.

Here are my specs in case it helps

My WiFi on my R61 laptop is constantly disconnecting.  I suspect is has something to do with the ThinkVantage software that is installed and keeps interferring with other programs.  After a certain period of time the green wireless light extinguishes and I am disconnected from my wireless network.  Other details:  1) this is a long proven LinkSys wireless router network in my home and my Fujitsu laptop has never had a problem with it (for over three years), 2) This ThinkPad R61i laptop is brand new, 3) running Windows XP Pro with all updates installed, 4) running Norton Internet Security as well, 4)  upon restart this laptop connects and runs just fine on the WiFi network; it's after waking up from standby that it disconnects and cannot be reconnecting (even through Network Connections, Repair function, etc).I have scanned through the power settings and Norton's Firewall settings to detect any anomolies... nothing.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,I'm facing an issue where my notebook disconnects very often from our home WiFi. I tried reinstalling the Intel drivers, that didn't help. I tried those steps: here , didn't help. I tried rebooting several times, didn't help. When I tried reinstalling the Aetheros, Broadcom, Realtek driver it says: No appropriate driver to be installed.  Intel driver version: 18.12.0.3Realtek driver version: 10.1.505.2015I'll be grateful for any help, it's getting really annoying.

I've had this problem for months, but it was only every hour or two so it was fairly tolerable. (It would start working as soon as I disconnected/reconnected (I usually used a button on my laptop))

At the moment, my laptop doesn't stay connected for more than a minute, it seems.
There might be some physical damage from a long time ago, but I'm not sure. This laptop also crashes a lot so there might be some corrupted stuff or something.

I looked for updated drivers, but going through device manager says it's up to date and checking the acer website says that the network drivers are included in 7 and so doesn't have them available for download.

Hi there, this is my first question on TSF and I hope this will be solved soon by the awesome experts :)

So, I own a TP-link Usb WiFi adapter (TL-WN321G) and I want to use my win 7 as a virtual WiFi. I've tried Connectify, Virtual router etc. And even TP- link's utility for a virtual hotspot on my win 7.

In all these, WiFi connects, I can browse on my phone but after sometime the connection drops, WiFi disconnects and then connects again, making the WiFi useless.

I then tested virtual WiFi on my old win xp, using Tp- link's utility and its working flawlessly. I tested with all security types (WPA, WPA2, WEP) and also tested encryptions (Tkip, aes) as I can change these in tp-link's utility program in win xp unlike in win 7.

I'm facing problem only in my win 7.

Any help please?

Answer:Virtual WiFi disconnects after sometime

I see your Adapter shows as discontinued, it just may not be fully compatible with Win7. Have you contacted TP-Link support?

Hi, ever since I bought a new desktop with Win 10 wifi has been very unreliable. It will disconnect frequently.
I know it's not a router problem because my other devices never experience this including the previous desktop.
One (poor) solution I have is to right click, disconnect and reconnect. This sometimes works.
If it helps, I have one router and one wifi booster plugged in. Thanks.

Hi there, I've just purchased a gaming PC, which I wish to play online games with. However, despite connecting to the internet, the PC disconnects randomly after a few minutes at most - the signal strength goes to zero. Then, even without doing anything, it reconnects and goes to being good signal again, after a minute or so. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks for any help!

P.S. I have several other computers and games consoles connected to the same wifi and I have never had any similar problems with those.

Hello,

Have you run Windows Update yet?  If not, do so and download all of the available updates and see if that solves the problem, or whether it continues to persist after the system is fully patched and updated.

Hello again!

My mother is having issues connecting to the internet on her new Toshiba Satellite C55-B5202 windows 8 laptop.

It keeps refusing to connect or disconnecting and dropping regularly from our local wifi network, I originally assumed this was tied to issues we were having with out internet, but those have sense been fixed and 3 of our other computers can all connect reliably to the network,

There appears to be greater issues with Google Chrome then with Firefox but cannot say for certain, I have run an avira virus scan which has detected and removed a piece of malicious software.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, as this computer is needed for business purposes .

When I first got it out of the box several months ago, it did not ran into any WiFi issues. After formatting to factory settings via Lenovo's One-Key program I begin to get random WiFi disconnects.  I tried updating Intel's Centrino Wireless adapter but its no use. What I notice is that all my other pc's running with windows 7 have no wifi problems, but my dad's latest computer the Dell XPS8700 and this laptop have WiFi issues.  It does not end here, both run windows 8 and utiilize Intel Centrino Wireless adapter. The modem is a Cisco DPC3825 Gateway. Hopefully I gave you enough details. If anyone knows the solution to this please let me know.  Provide links if necessary.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)  I just barely got this laptop, new, and set it up a few days ago. I connected to the Wifi and thought there was no problem, but when I opened the browser and typed in a URL, it disconnected. It then reconnected a few seconds later, so I tried another URL, and it disconnected again. This happens every time I try to do anything that requires wifi, including trying to send an error report. The farthest I've gotten is opening Youtube, but I clicked on one video and lo and behold, the wifi disconnected. TL,DR; Wifi disconnects and reconnects every few seconds. Solutions I've tried:- Turning computer off/back on- Turning airplane mode off/on- Disconnecting and reconnecting to wifi network- Disabling and re-enabling network device in Network Connections (Change adapter options in network settings)- Tons of other stuff I can't remember
