Alternate Drivers for 2014 X1 Carbon GOBI 5000?

Question: Alternate Drivers for 2014 X1 Carbon GOBI 5000?

I've noticed a couple other threads regarding the GOBI 5000 WWAN card on 2014 X1 Carbon machines, so I know I'm not the only one having issues ... I have two new X1s (both 20A7), one with a Verizon GOBI 5000 and another with an AT&T GOBI 5000. The Verizon card installs fine and works, no issues there. The AT&T card has alternately: not shown up at all in Device Manager, shown up as an "unknown" object, and now after uninstalling the driver, removing the card, rebooting, re-installing the card, etc., the driver package installs successfully, but the card shows up under ports as COM4. The description is correct - system sees it as a "Sierra Wireless EM7355 ...". Naturally, Mobile Broadband Activation doesn't see the card and so won't run. In another thread someone suggested they were able to get hold of an older driver package that successfully installed; any hope of getting a link? Or better yet, an updated current driver?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... Hi all, I have problem with activating Verizon boardband service on my X1 laptop after it is back from the warranty service (bad mother board, my laptop has been working find with Verizon broadband service for 9 months before the motherboard died). I made the research and found this http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht082428 This is the same issue happened on the same model of my laptop, same model of my built-in air card. The only difference is it was the windows 7 and mine is windows 8.1 Unfortunately, the solution on that article does not work for my case. I contacted Lenovo and wait for the level 2 tech support to contact back to me my case number is 302MRJ8. If anyone has any input please feel free to join in. ThanksSteve

Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

Answer:Gobi 5000 EM7355 installation

HiPlug the red antenna cable into the jack labeled MAIN on the card, and the blue cable into the jack labeled AUX. Jack labeled GPS is for the active (!) GPS antenna, laptop hasn't it. That jack might have a voltage (depending on the internal settings), so If you'll connect any regular antenna cable, modem will be broken because of short circuit.Let me ask you: is you location Georgia in the reality? Where are you planing to use em7355 and what types of networks?

Anyone know how I can get the verizon gobi 5000 to work with my T431s on windows 7.  For some reason there is no driver for the gobi 5000 that I can find and the lenovo mobile broadband activiation software only supports AT&T.   I'm at a loss. Has anyone been succesfull in getting this to work, I've got 15 laptops not one of which is working with the Gobi 5000 and Verizon.   If you have been succesful are you using Verizon Access Manager or Lenovo Access Connections?  How did you go about getting it to connect.  The furthest I've got with all my monkeying around is for Lenovo Access Connections to show Verizon but not be able to connect. Verizon's site mentions nothing of the Gobi 5000 and Lenovo's drivers dont' work,  downloading the Sierra drivers from Sierra allows the device to show in Access Connections but is still not usable.

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Will the new AT&T Gobi 5000 work with the T530?  Not that it should matter but the innards include an i7-3520M, 16GB 1600MHz, and a 256GB 840 Pro.  I'd opt for the 5000 rather than the 4000 if I knew it was compatible.  Any advice?

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

Answer:T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

Has anyone got this card successfully working with Verizon?? SIM is in place and ready for activation with Verizon. When I try to use the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation tool the only options listed are ATT and Other. The other option just says to call your provider. This tool worked for us previously with the x230 and there was always a Verizon activation option. Any help much appreciated!

Answer:Verizon Activation x240 Gobi 5000 EM7355

Lenovo is aware of this issue but they don't have a solution yet. We have been dealing with this problem FOR MONTHS with both Verizon and Lenovo pointing fingers at each other. Until Lenovo fixes the problem, I would advise anyone who intends to use the Gobi 5000 card with Verizon to stay away. There are obviously problems that were not caught in QA that have lingered where our support requests were swept under the rug not acknowledging any problems. For the price you pay for these laptops, you would expect them to be working out of the gate. The X240, T440s/T440 and any laptops that use the Gobi 5000 are not ready for businesses who use Verizon and have a mobile workforce. You're better off slamming your head against the wall rather than wait for Lenovo to fix the problem.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?

Well this is very odd. The disassembly photos here clearly show it only supports a half height card.I found this page which shows an Ericson card, but has GOBI 4000 listed under physical specs (with the model number for a full-size GOBI 4000).

Folks - I have two X1 Carbons sitting in front of me, both running Windows 8.1, trying to connect to my Samsung TV.The X1 Carbon (2014) has display corruption on WiDi, while the X1 Carbon (original) works fine. On the 2014 X1 Carbon, you get display corruption, and choppy squeaky audio every few seconds. With the original everything is smooth as silk. Any thoughts? I've already run Lenovo System Update on X1 Carbon (2014) as well as Windows Update, so everything is up to date. Don't know what else to try? Clearly, it's not the TV, nor the router, nor interference - since one machine works and the other doesn't... Thanks!

I have a new Carbon X1 (2014) model 20A7 (i7-4600U,  256 GB SSD) and recently had the motherboard changed underwarranty due to an issue with a "power cycle" problem where the computer wouldn't boot and the keyboard backlighting would come on and then the computer rebooted. Lenovo was great and did a "one-time" on-site" service call in a matter of days! Since the motherboard was changed I have noticed 2 things: the indicator light on the keyboard deck in the ThinkPad "I" no longer lights at all, and the computer fan seems to come on way more then it used to. Before I had the motherboard changed I rarely ever heard the fan come on and when it did I was usually working the computer (little video editing, transferring files). Now it seems to come on under varying conditions: light browsing, editing a Word document and at times for what appears to be no reason. It doesn't stay on for long, but when I view system performance I see the CPU bouncing between 0.8 and 3 GHz, the CPU usage 1%- 90% at times and disk usage 20%-80%. It is never super loud, just a soft "purr" but different than before. I called Lenovo and they have shipped a box for a return to depot service check. My questions: 1. the the light even matter on the logo?2. how often should the fan come on and under what conditions will it normally be required? Any thought are welcome.

My X1 carbon will not boot. When I press the power button, the power light will turn on for a second, as will the keyboard back light and the fan. This issue is similar to one the issue described here, but without the looping. It turns on and then off and that's it.When I first ran into this problem, after I left the laptop alone for a while, the laptop would boot normally. Sometimes, the laptop would turn on and remain on, but the screen would stay off and the laptop would never boot. Now, it just turns off after I turn it on.What is the problem? Is it the motherboard?Since I'm out of warranty,  what options would I have for repair?

Dear Lenovo, I have always been a huge fun of the Thinkpad line, pretty much all my laptop are thinkpads. Brought both the 2011 and 2012 versions of X1 and they were great!!! I am such a heavy user I do all my work on those.especially the 2012 X1, best in business class! Now on to the 2013 X1, I mean seriously for a business users the keyboard here is such a deal breaker, it really broke my heart that I have to found a different brand now.... 1. no physical F-keys, I spend majority of my time on excel, this is such a issue because I enjoyed the stifness and the feeling when key bounce back to me, so I would know it registerd.2. double tap shift for Cap lock?! this created so much error space for user to turn accidently turn it on or off.3. the backspace and delete, again its very easy to one rather than the other4. Home, End, Insert keys, why do they have to jump around from generation to generations? everytime a new Thinkpad comes out does serious business users have to get use to your new desgins...5. the red pointstick really needs its own dedicate bottons, it has been there for soo many years and its been wonderful! why do you have to take those away?! Your newly keyboard might work great on ideaPad, geared towards non-professional users... But have them on X1? I mean that is the least part of the ThinkPad you want to mess around.... it will drive all your loyal fans away. if this type of "innovation" has to continue... at least give us the option... Answer:X1 Carbon 2014 Keyboard

I can't agree with this sentiment more! This new keyboard with the adaptive function keys are terrible. Why would you introduce these for a business ultrabook? Also, as a loyal Lenovo customer, why would you get rid of the separate trackpoint buttons? Combining them into the touchpad is terrible (and it feels cheap when I click it). Please stop dumbing down what is clearly supposed to be a high-end business ultrabook for consumer use! Can you bring back the old keyboard (e.g., the one that was available on the 1st Gen X1 Carbon)?

I have the brand new X1 Carbon with the WQHD display. I wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu Linux 13.10. Everything works perfectly. Sound, WiFi, camera, trackpad...all running fine with no issues. I also have a new T540p running Windows 8.1. When I compare the display on the X1 to the T540p, it is noticeably dimmer. I have the brightness cranked all the way up, but the display looks like its about 75% as bright. Is this just because the T540p has a better display panel, or is there some defect with my X1? Other than that, its an amazing laptop. Big improvement over the 2012 model.

Answer:Comments on 2014 X1 Carbon

I had the original X1 Carbon from 2012. The one thing I really disliked about it was the relatively low res and low quality screen. I rationalized it by saying it was as good as a MacBook Air. Well, the MacBook Air display sucks too. Lenovo has remedied that aspect of the X1 Carbon with the new WQHD display. It is sharp, clear, bright and stunning. Could be brighter, IMHO, but its still excellent and better than almost anything else. The LED function keys are a bit of a gimmick that I dont pay much attention to, epsecially because I am running Linux and they are just standard function keys and dont change when an application changes. I sort of miss the trackpad buttons, but I've gotten used to the new trackpad very quickly.  The build quality is outstanding, as one would expect for a flagship product. They even ship it in a box within the standard Lenovo box, and its packaged carefully like an Apple product. The keyboard is excellent. The battery life, even with Linux, is excellent. There really is nothing to complain about. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I think its worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wants a top of the line ultrabook with state of the art features.

Hey Guys! I have a Thnkpad X1 Carbon - 2014. I was working on my laptop a while back; and pressed the Esc key just to see it pop out. I tried fixing it bak, but noticed that one of the hinges on the right hand side clamp is broken. The Machine is just 6 months old and I am under onsite warranty. The machine works fine otherwise..I called up support guys and they told me that since I did not have accidental damage protection, I need to carry my laptop to an authorised service centre and that I would not be covered under warranty. I tried explaining that it popped out in the regular course of use and that there was no accident or damage inflicted on the machine, but they seemed to ingore and simply repeated the accidental damage protection thing. We may so much for the quality of machines and the quality of after sales service and buy these expensive machine. This is totally unexpected of Lenovo and so disappointing. I am sure my next machine is going to be something which costs 1/2 as much for a much better configuration. Its pointless paying so much and then getting such substandard service and steroetype answers to your issues. Any suggestions? Should I just go and buy a new keyboard to save me the hassle of contacting the support guys again? Neil.

I have had my new X1 carbon for a couple of weeks. Up until this last weekend I haven't used it for longer than 2 hours without charging it again. This past weekend I decided I wanted to see how long the battery life really was. After about 3 hours, and the battery life registering about 50%, I suddenly got a message saying the battery life was under 7%. I let it run for a few more minutes and it shut down. I tried the same experiment today while in the office and got the same results.  Is this a defective battery? Or is there a known driver issue or Windows 8.1 issue?

I just received my i5-4200U X1 Carbon 2nd gen and the fan seems to be pressing/scraping against the chassis of notebook. I highly doubt this is normal. It sounds like a scraping noise. Another thing that gives it away is that everytime I press the Delete or Backspace key the fan slows down and there's the scraping noise again. Anyway I can fix this? The X1 still under warranty obviously, but if it's an easy fix I wouldn't want to bother contacting Lenovo.

The mouse and the keyboard are connected with an USB hub (with extra power).  After some time of not using the notebook it will fell into the sleep mode, which is pretty obvious and ok, but it cannot be turned on with the keyboard (through the USB hub); without USB hub it works well. Is there anything I can do? (Instead of open the notebook every time)

Answer:X1 Carbon 2014 - USB Hub wake up

Don't allow the computer to go into sleep mode - control panel -> power options-> change plan options -> put the computer to sleep ->never.

Hello,  On Friday I received my new X1 Carbon Model (20A7) with the WQHD non-touch display. I have used two different HP 27" ZR2740w displays (one at a time) using the Mini-DP port on the device. This is the same setup I had with the previous gen X1 Carbon and it worked fine outputting to the 27" monitor, I also tried a new mini-DP to Display Port cable for the monitor, (three cables and none of them worked).  I then went into the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools and downloaded everything it had available. Then went to Windows Update and got everything there that was available. Tested again, no go. I then uninstalled the Intel graphics driver, booted into pretty VGA mode, then re-downloaded the Intel driver from the Lenovo site reinstalled and no go. The BIOS on the computer updated, there are no addiitonal driver or application updates to download at this time. Now I am thinking that the hardware is bad because I believe that the laptop can support a second 2560x1440 resolution display externally.  This is with Win7 and the factory image. Does anyone have any thought on this?

Answer:Mini-DP on X1 Carbon 2014 Not working.

It should be plug and play. If it doesn't work out of box, it usually points to a hardware issue. The only other test I would recommend us to reset the system to factory condition and see what happens.

Hi all - we just purchased two X1 Carbons with the following specs:  On both laptops, there is no touch screen available.  I confirmed this by accessing the system properties in Windows, which states "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display".  Are we missing something?  Both of these laptops are straight out of the box.

Answer:2014 X1 Carbon No Touch Screen

The 2014 X1 Carbon comes in both multi-touch and non-touch models. The Display specification you posted doesn't explicitly say if it has the multi-touch feature but I can infer it indirectly. The WQHD non-touch screen has 300 nits brightness specification while the multi-touch version is only 270 nits.

Please post the model number of the X1C2s that you ordered. It's something like 20A70035US. That will confirm that you have the non-touch model.

If you meant to order a touch screen model but inadvertently ordered non-touch you will have to contact Lenovo to see what they can do for you.

I just recently noticed that when my cursor goes into a certain area of my screen (about half and inch long and 2 inches wide) it highlights links and what not on a different part of the screen. When the links are highlighted and i click it won't do anything, but in file explorer i was able to select a folder and copy it while not even near it. This happens in browsers, word, file explorer, etc. When i'm on the desktop and i click in this certain area, the box that comes up when you click and drag on the desktop starts in a different area and then instantly moves to where the cursor actually is. So if i click and hold in this area i have a big highlighted box on my desktop but i haven't moved my mouse at all.  http://imgur.com/c7tMV0JIn this picture you can see my cursor is highlighting the twitter link when the cursor is down by the youtube link. Thanks for the help in advance!

I was a big fan of thinkpad X-serie and owned 8 or 9 of them.Purchases nx1c and thought that it'll be my baby for next two years, but now I am thinking to return it since I buy it for work, not to use as an iPad. Below are some pain points, and hopefully the New New X1 carbon will get right on them. 1. Adaptive keyboard seems to be fancy idea, but works horrible(1) Delay introduced by switching keyboard layouts to perform some common tasks- e.g. F2 to rename/F5 to refresh/Alt+F4 to close/...- e.g. F5/F7/F9/F10/F11/F12 in coding with visual studio- e.g. Snipping tool is only available in browser mode, but I need it somewhere else- ... (2) Delay introduced by the easiness to misclick- e.g. during debugging, need frequently click F10/F11/etc.. Without looking down, I can't make sure I clicked the right key, and I have to be carefully not swiped over the next key which sometimes mean I have to do the whole thing over (3) No way to program or delete certain layouts- I am not a meeting guy, may I remove the web conference layout for fast-switching between modes?- Snipping tool is really too limited, and I want program it call original PrintScreen, but there's NO way- Some features are there just for being "fancy", like swiping before webcam to go prev/next page, really wish I can replace them but again, NO way 2. I received the new X1 carbon. My IT shop had to image it with the corporate Windows 8 image (which I quickly upgraded to 8.1). My Fn keyboard is basically useless now. I tap on the Fn key and it doesn't do anything. I tap on the "configuration" key and it doesn't do anything. I assume it is because I don't have the Adaptive Keyboard app in control panel. I can't find where to download and install it from. Please help!

I received my new X1 model (i7 Haswell Touchscreen) a couple days ago and here are my thoughts - BAD keyboard. I just don't know what Lenovo was thinking! The feeling of the buttons is ok, but I'm constantly having to look down at it. The Home, End, Delete, Backspace placements aren't intuitive and have caused many errors. - Adaptive Keys are nonsensical!!! I thought we were going to be able to program them? They're constantly changing and flickering.. just a huge annoyance. If you have browswers, MS programs, PS, and other programs open at the same time it's a nightmare! And the LCD strip is a bit cheap looking too. - Screen: The images lack sharpness and text is blurry at times! Brightness and Color replication are decent, but both could be much better. There's some edge light bleed as well which you'll notice on black screens and 16:9 content. My wife has a Mac and her screen is just so much better. The X1 screen is also pretty reflective for what it claims to be "non-reflective". - Trackpad.. it has decent feedback & gliding, but I'm missing the buttons a lot more than I thought I would when I first saw the design. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I don't much enjoy it either. - Gesture Controls: these are pretty silly and limited. There's also too much lag. They're mildly fun to play around with once, but I would never use them again. Conclusion: I have owned 5 different ThinkPads over time and have been very loyal to IBM & ThinkPa... Read more

Hello, I've been researching what modem I need for my x1 Carbon 2014.  I have seen many threads saying I need an em7355 (0C52902).  (I have Verizon)  However Lenovo's website says to purchase a 4XC0G56988. I want to install the modem in the laptop and take the MicroSIM out of my Verizon hotspot and use it in my PC. For example,  is this the card: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-0C52902-Thinkpad-Gobi-5000-Mobile-Broadband-Network-Adapter-Verizon-/... Are all OC52902 equal in make?  So, this card should actually work in 20A7 Carbon or a T440? Thanks for any help!

I would like to disbable certain gestures on the 2014 carbon x1 touchpad.  As an example, i do not want the charms bar to appear when I swipe in from the right.  I could not find anywhere to customize the touchpad settings.  Thanks for your help!

Answer:X1 Carbon (2014) touchpad gestures

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

In Windows 8.1, to disable the charms bar, right click on the taskbar and choose "Properties".

In the next window, switch to the navigation tab, and uncheck the following options:

When I point to the upper-right corner, show the charms
When I click the upper-left corner, switch between my recent apps.

This will disable top right and left corner. If you want to disable bottom right corner as well, you may use 3rd party application like winaero charms bar killer which works with Windows 8 as well.

You can adjust the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse -> Ultranav settings.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi Everyone, I was recently given a new X1 Carbon type 20A8 (the new 2014 model) at work.  From what I've read online, it should have come with a ethernet dongle for the proprietary ethernet port on the right side (see picture below).  However, our IT guy knows nothing about it. I tried calling tech support who referred me to sales. When I called sales, they didn't even know it existed and told me there was only a USB dongle.  I also can't find it for sale anywhere on the Lenovo website. Can someone please help me figure out how to get this dongle? It would be very much appreciated. Thank You.

Hello and welcome,

From the parts list http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen2_fru_bom_20140204.pdf I believe the FRU # for that cable is 04X6435.

That may help if you contact Lenovo again.

A quick Google doesn't bring up any 3rd party sellers, but they may exist.

I mean the new 2014 power brick is half the size and I would love that in my laptop bag instead of the pretty big one that I have now with my x1 carbon. I was already thinking of getting another power brick and if the new smaller one is compatible with my old x1 carbon I'd be a very happy lama.

Hello eddie_313

If I understand, you are concerned that the OneLink Pro dock will overcharge the battery, which will reduce battery life? The battery is designed to prevent overcharging, so although the OneLink Pro dock is used and the meter shows fully charged, the battery is not being charged continuously.

Hi All I bought a 2nd hand X1 Carbon. It arrived a couple of days ago. its the non touch QHD i7 model. I am happy with the laptop otherwise and getting used to the keyboard and touchpad. However the screen is giving me headaches. My previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron 1749 from 6 years ago. However the screen on that laptop was still better than that on the X1 Gen 2. So thinking that it is a settings issue, I did the following already.  1. Disabled adaptive brighness. This helped a bit 2. Looked for a screen protector. I dont think there is any3. Installed the calibration profile on it. 4. played around with colour settings in the intel graphics app then gave up as any thing I did to it looked worse than standard. The screen seems washed out dull and a bit yellowish at full brightness. I have 2 years warrantty on this laptop still o you think there is a settings issue or a bad display?  Really appriciate any help. thanks

Hello there,I bought my X1 (20A7) in Germany, now I'm in ghana and it broke. So I took it to IPMC (by the way, phone number in lenovos list is wrong) on 8.10.14 to get it repaired. After a week I was told i can pick it like after the weekend. Answer:X1 Carbon (2014 Model) endless bootloop

I bought my X1 Carbon Touch 2014 brand new about 2 months ago.Today was a normal day, I set it to sleep before leaving work and came home. A few hours later, I pulled my laptop out and connected AC and pressed the power button. It woke up normally into the login screen so I swiped my finger to login and 1~2 seconds after, the screen suddenly turns funny and then shows black screen (I think it powred off or something at this point). And then it turns on (but not the screen) briefly for about 1 second and then turns off, turns on for 1 second and turns off, and repeat... I tried the reset button and it made it stop the loop. But then whenever I try to power it on it starts that loop again and I have to use the reset button to power it off (holding the power button will not stop the loop). Also, pressing the reset button does not stop the loop when the laptop is plugged into AC.. I have work tomorrow and this is my work laptop.... Any ideas of what's wrong??This is so disappointing. It will be a huge headache if I have to send this in to Depot as our company policy requires the SDD to be wiped before sending it in for repair.   UPDATE:Seems like I'm doomed now. After leaving it for a while I powered it on and it powered up normally and went to boot screen. I chose to normally boot up window but then screen turned blank again... After that, trying to power it up will again enter that power on/off loop. So I reset it again and left it for a while... Read more

Hello everyone,I recenlty bought the new X1 Carbon (2014). It has the Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable, instead of the Gobi 5000.  The reason i got the system with the WWAN upgradable and not Gobi 5000 is that i heard people managed on the previous version to use the WWAN slot for a second SSD.  I want to know, can i do the same with the 2014 edition? and if yes, what kind of SSD do i need to buy (mSata, M.2...etc). Thnak you in advance.

Answer:Thinkad X1 Carbon (2014) Replace WWAN with SSD?

See this thread: X1C2 M.2 SSD upgrade and especially lead_org's post of 22-03-2014 07:26 AM:
I went home and tested this setup with two different M.2 installed in the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2, only the main M.2. 80 mm slot detects a SSD, while the M.2. 42 mm slot (for WWAN) does not detect the SSD. So the experiment basically means the ThinkPad X1 Carbon can only support one SSD.

I just got a new X1 Carbon, but the trackpad taps make a loud sound and feel loose, almost like the keys on a keyboard. I don't click down but just tap. It doesn't feel solid. I'm wondering if this is maybe an issue with my machine or is everyone dealing with this?

Answer:New 2014 X1 Carbon TouchPad "loose" tap clicks

Well, it's hard to tell. I know of some reviews that said they had to try several units until they had a working trackpad. Mine definitely feels like a giant keyboard button. Actually, it is nosier than any of the keyboard keys. I would not call it loose since it clicks firmly but I do find it difficult to use. The middle-button on mine is almost inexistant. If they had to fix one thing on the X1, it would be to put physical buttons on it, like the older model had. If you can try another one, you should (I would too) because until you have a greater sample than one, you cannot be sure that yours is the same or not.

I see that the adaptive keyboard auto-dims after inactivity. I'd like to manually dim/sleep the adaptive keyboard so that the backlight doesn't distract in a dark room. Is there a way to do this? If not, I'd like to put in a feature request for it. Thanks!

Hi,Becuase of the very fiddegy Touchpad on my new Carbon X1 2014 (20A8) I was looking forward to installing the new firmware update realeased 19 Aug 2014, becuase it should address some of the annoying issues I have with the touchpad.According to the readme file, my computer is supported, but when I run the SynReflash.exe to upgrade, I consistently get this message back: "Reflash cannot find firmware updates for the devices on this system". What's wrong here?? Can you help? PS. Running Windows 8.1 Update 1 (x64). The UltraNav driver (18.0.7.40) is installed and working, even though I have to disable all gesture support to get a somwhat predictable mouse action when using the touchpad. Some help would be great. Thanks.

My Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2014) shuts down sometimes when i play games like Counterstrike Global Offensive. I have warranty on it. What could cause those shut downs and should i send it for repair?

Answer:X1 Carbon 2014 shuts down when playing games

Welcome to the forum.

The most likely cause of sudden shutdowns is overheating. There's a thermal sensor inside the ThinkPad that cuts off power before overheating causes permanent damage to the system. Some programs, often games, make such heavy demands on the CPU that it can overheat.

Make sure that the vents along the sides of the X1C aren't blocked by dust. If you see dust you may want to use a vacuum cleaner to suck it out. Also make sure that there's lots of space around the system to let exhausted warm air recirculate in the room.

There are several free utilities that can report on internal temperatures, e.g. Speccy. If you're more technically inclined there's also a utility that can both display internal temperatures and adjust fan speed accordingly, TPFanControl.

If none of this addresses the sudden shutdowns then you probably want to have the system serviced.

Hello, I have a problem with my touchpad on the new X1 Carbon under windows 7. The scrolling works only occasionally. When I try to scroll, the scrolling icon pops up but the Window which is scrolled is not the current one. For example I have to windows open on the right and left. The pointer is on the left window, I scroll and the right window scrolls. The same is when one window is over other. For example: I open Chrome over Outlook, I scroll the content in Chrome, but what actually scrolls are my emails in the background running Outlook.I already have the newest driver ? Synaptics 18.0.7.40, but the problem persists. Please assist. Thanks,Pawe?

Folks - I know the trackpad issues with the X1 Carbon have been discussed to death, but I'm encountering an odd issue with the latest drivers: I'm primarily a trackpoint user. With my right index finger resting on the trackpoint, my right thumb tends to rest lightly on the trackpad. When I do a left click - physically moving the trackpad down to make an actual click, not just a tap - it gets registered as a right click. This is very annoying. I've noticed that even if you have a very light touch anywhere on the trackpad, either the left click never registers, or it gets confused with a right click. I've tried disabling tapping altogether in the settings, but this has no effect.Would be grateful for advice from the community - anyone else experiencing this? I'd imagine that trackpad users would encouter this all the time - are there settings that help? Or is my trackpad just broken?

I've had the New 2014 Carbon X1 for about a week now, so I thought I'd post a review about my experiences thus far.The version I received was the high end model, i7 4th gen, 8gb ram, IPS 2560x1440 touch display. This is the first Lenovo device I have purchased, and I did so at the recommendation of my brother who has owned a T series for the last 3 years. I am a film student, so my intention is to do some light video editing (not rendering) and lightroom/ photoshop work on this device (in addition to daily use of OneNote). I was looking for a powerful ultrabook with good build quality, battery life, and cooling when I purchased this laptop. Hardware:The hardware on this device has highly conservative look, which I appreciate. The laptop doesn't draw attention, but is pleasing to the eye when viewed up close. I like the fact that there are not as many creases or lines that run through the body of the device (when compared to other devices), which results in a more free flowing but unified appearance. The matte plastic on the top of the lid has a slightly rubberized texture, making the device easy to grip. My hands get hot and moist consistently, so the lid does occasionally pick up some faint moisture streaks if I carry it without a case. The slightly rubberized texture is pleasant to the touch and is easy to wipe down with a damp cloth. The inside of the device has a similar plastic around the keys and palm rests, but does not attain as much of a rubber (soft) feel as the... Read more

Thanks for the detailed review! A few quick questions:How's the new clickpad?Does the keyboard flex under reasonable pressure? Is the adaptive bar actually a pixel-based LCD or just a series of predefined patterns like the really old LCD displays?Disappointed to hear about the lack of media keys, and what seems like mediocre cooling. I wonder how well it'll hold up to full system load.

Hi! I just got an X1 Carbon 2014 and I love it! However every time when I connect or reconnect it to an external monitor (I mostly use ?Second Screen only?) the screen seam to adjust to the new resolution but the icons, mouse etc. gets either too big or too small. The problem is solved by rebooting or signing out and in to the computer but it is annoying to do that every time I connect or reconnect to an external monitor (like 4 times a day) Does anyone know how this can be done easier? Stefan

Hi,  today I finally received my new X1 Carbon. I have almost set it up, but have stumbled upon a rather peculiar issue: I am unable to connect to a Junos VPN-server. I am using the built-in Junos VPN-plugin from Windows 8.1 (accessible from the Modern UI Network settings by adding a VPN there). When trying to connect I immediately receive an error message referring to ID "0x800700A1" - path not found. That message is given even before being asked for username or password. The VPN-plugin outputs no events at all to Windows event log (even though it should add such information even when it does not find the server or there is a username mismatch). Since I am successfully using the exact same configuration on both an MS Surface (non pro) and a Windows 8.1 Desktop computer, I am 100% certain there must be some strange network-meddling on the Lenovo system (e.g. by one of Lenovo's apps). Specifically I fear there is some system file missing or replaced. I am able to connect using Junipers proprietary software (the "Junos Client"), however that program causes occassional problems on my other computers and is thus not my favorite solution (especially since the built-in VPN can be set to auto-activate whenever a certain IP is called upon and change Proxies on the fly, neither of which is possible with Junipers tool). Any ideas what might cause this (or what Lenovo app I should uninstall)? Thanks for any help in advance, Michael

For the most part it is great but recently it has been having an issue when waking up from hibernation - the screen seems to turn on fine but then gets vertical stripes which darken until the the image is not visible. Then eventually it clears and goes to the login dialog.  Is it about to go kaput? Is this covered under warranty?  Running Windows 10250GB drive 8GB memoryFlexview display 2560x1440  Lenovo hardware scan doesn't show anything. Problem is intermittent but painful when it happens.  Any ideas?

I own now a x1 carbon 2nd generation (2014 - 20A70066GE) and I want to use trackpoint and touchpad doubleclick at the same time. I installed the proper Synaptics Driver and all in all it works. But I can't use the trackpoint and the "doubleclick by touch" (don't know the english term) at the same time. Before I installed the Synaptics driver it worked, but the driver now really separates both functions. I chose the function "use both - trackpoint and touchpad" properly and in fact I can use both...but not the same time. I have to use touchpad for one or two seconds, then I can doubleclick by touching the touchpad 2times. In my opinion it is much more comfortable not to use the mechanical touchpad buttons (sounds and feels awful), I ALWAYS want to mouse-click only by touching the touchpad. How is that possible? Of cource I could deinstall the synaptic software, but the software is good for scaling sensitivity and stuff like that...please help.

Answer:x1 carbon 2014 - tracking point and touchpad at the same time

I think you answered your own question "Before I installed the Synaptics driver it worked" I don't work for Lenovo but I can tell you what I know their answer will be.  "It's not our software, please try without that software or contact Synaptics for assistance". It's not possible to be 100% compatible with 100% of the devices and software 100% of the time.  It sounds to me that the Synpatics software doesn't like the functionality.

I received delivery of a new thinkpad in August 2014. In December 2014, i began experiencing issues with a drop in the internet connection. After trying to resolve this via the cable company and trying other self support technical advice, it was determined that one of the drivers was faulty.
In January 2015, Lenovo fixed this for free, since it was covered under warranty.

Now, we are in October 2015 (10 months down), and I'm experiencing the same issues. When speaking with a technical service representative I was informed that since the laptop is no longer under warranty, I will have to pay out of my pocket to get this fixed. While this rep was non-chalant and didnt bother to ask about the situation, I gave it a shot again and called another rep to see if he was having a better day.
In my conversation, with the new rep, I mentioned that since this was an existing issue, it seemed to me like the repairs done were a temporary fix.
He agreed and said that I would have to call Lenovo sales (since they are IBM), to escalate this issue.

I feel at this point that I am going to run around in circles. Does anyone else have a better solution for this?

Thanks

Hi and welcome, mkoregaonkarThere aren't enough details in your post - OS vesion installed, adapter model (I hope it's an Intel wifi adapter), what actions have you performed already to troubleshoot, adapter drivers version and settings etc.Anyway, my main advice is to remove all adapter related entries (drivers, PROSet software), download the recent drivers only (w/o stuff) and install them.

I want to record the audio from another PC's Windows Media Player by plugging its LINE OUT to the X1 Carbon's OneLink Pro Dock LINE IN (Headset/microphone combo connector).  I know that this PC's LINE OUT works because I can plug either earphones into it or external speakers and this works for me. Setting the Enable for the external Microphone under the recording tab the Sound dialog box of the Hardware and Sound of the X1's Control panel does not do it.  Even if the X1's embedded microphone is disabled, this also does not work for me. I can record sound via the X1's embedded microphone, but I want to record via the LINE IN of the OneLink Pro Dock. I have the latest Windows 8.1 updates and I have the latest OneLink Pro Dock software installed, Version 1.08.31. Thanks, JW

Couldn't find anything by searching, so hopefully somebody could help: I have a 2014 X1 Carbon (Gen 2) and my ethernet dongle stopped working this morning. It worked fine for the past 3 weeks but after rebooting this morning i can't get to get access to the network via the ethernet port anymore. The port's activity lights don't light up and a network connection is never recognized. I have checked the Device Manager and verified that I have the latest drivers (12.11.77.1  for Intel I218-LM), and made sure that the Power Settings do not allow the port to go to sleep.I have also tried 3 different ethernet dongles, all behaving the same way. I was able to use a USB-to-Ethernet dongle to get access with a ethernet cable, but that's not an ideal solution. Is my port just dead? I don't see any visible damage, or loose connectors. Any thoughts on what to inspect next?

So I was about to start raving about my X1C that I just received. Loving the display, the keyboard, build quality, etc. I had no gripes and was just browsing away when suddenly the screen did the full glitch. I recognize this as what happens when something's messed with the motherboard/display adapter. So I gave it a reset. All was normal and then it happened again. I was able to replicate it 3-4 times and it keeps happening. I never dropped it or anything. It was always just stationary.I can't believe this. I had problems with the first gen non-touch and touch. I was hoping by now they have improved.

Hello. I have a brand new X1 carbon(model: 20A7-005KMD) that was installed with our company image, running windows 7. Alle drivers in device manager has been installed, and system update is updated. The carbon has the "touch" function keys and they only partly work. When booting the computer i can swap between the different functions, but when i get into windows, its is "stuck" with only the options F1-F12. The F keys work, but i cant change settings by pressing the FN key on the left side og the touch display, and get sounds/brightness settings etc. as said, this works just fine during the boot. Any ideas what can be causing this and even more important - a fix?

Answer:X1 Carbon 2014 Function keys not working in windows7

If the Fn button doesn't cycle through the rows in Windows, it means that the proper version of hotkeys isn't installed.
Please get the latest version here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029026

If this still doesn't work, then something in your company image is probably interfering with it and the image needs to be debugged by comparing it to the Lenovo factory preload.

Opening "Devices and Printers" from the Control Panel on X1 Carbon 2014 takes over 30 seconds. Appears this is due to the "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" as after uninstalling the driver, "Devices and Printers" opens almost immediately.  Reinstall the drivers (latest via System Update) and again takes longer than 30 seconds to open. Are other users experiencing similar problems? Is this a known issue?  If so, any idea of when this will be resolved?

I just got a new 2014 X1 Carbon maxed out. I also got a new OneLink Pro Hub. Everything is connected using the stock power supplies that came with the device. All drivers and firmware are current. All software that came with the system is still in place and is active. (So please take this all into consideration when suggesting what I try next)I have two LG Flatron E2442TC displays attached to the OneLink Pro. One is attached via the DisplayPort and one is attached vis the DVI->VGA adaptor that came with the OneLink Pro.I am running Windows 8.1 as came installed with my computer along with some Intel Display Management software that came installed. The problem is, I can only sporadically get this configuration to work. My computer can see both E2442 displays. However, when I try to connect to these displays, I get the brilliantly informative message "The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings."It seems that I can get the VGA setting working on its own. But when I add the screen connected via the DisplayPort, things don't work quite right. (but occasionally they will)The unusual problem is that the E2442's resolution seems to be fixed to the same resolution of my main display on the laptop (2560x1440) which the E2442 cannot handle. But I cannot change the resolution - the drop down is locked.I have also tried to use the Intel display applets rather than the Windows screen resolution control panel applet, but that softw... Answer:2014 X1 Carbon + OneLink Pro has difficulties with dual monitors

I have continued to try and resolve this problem. I removed the VGA cable and DVI-D->VGA adaptor and put in a DVI-D to DVI-D cable to my monitor. So now I have one monitor going DVI-D to DVI-D and the other going DVI-D to Displayport -- both onto the one link pro. The system continues to struggle with this. Right now, both displays are working -- but I've had this situation in the past too. It struggled through numerous reboots before it would let me connect both monitors. I was able to connect the DVI-D to DVI-D monitor fairly quickly, but the DVI-D to DisplayPort monitor took a few more tries and initially came up at 680x480 resolution which it said was the best that was supported. After a reboot, it finally let me set both monitors to the max of 1920x1440. But, as I said before, I've been here before. The computer just seems to struggle to figure out what the monitors are capable of supporting. When I try and connect to them, it seems that it works 50% of the time and really badly fails the other 50%. Once I can't connect, it will take me hours of trying before I can connect again. This just isn't good enough. Today, when I was explaining that I bought a new Lenovo laptop, a colleague rolled his eyes. It's hard to defend my choice when it doesn't work well.
