I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The newly bought 6 months old Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Gen frequently crashes when it is left unattended for 10-15 min when it is connected to the external Lenovo monitor. I gues it has something to do with monitor turning off settings but can't fihure it out, it is stupid that I see blue screen so frequently because the system can't figure out how to turn off the external display... lost so much work and so very much disappointed at both Lenovo and Microsoft... I had an X220 which I loved but next time I am going for a Mac! - a very disappointed customer

First of all - thank you for your dedication to people like me!
I followed the removal instructions but then has a black screen when restarting my computer. Computer woks in safe mode.
I have done a Windows startup repair but it cannot be completed, I get the message that unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem. Error code 0x490.
Also get Boot/BCD failed.
I have restored the computer and can work on it in normal mode. I still see the little lock of the Malware on my taskbar.
I have also purchased Advanced System Care to assist but I get no joy...
It seems like removal of the Malware also removes some system registry files but I am no expert.

Please, please help me!

Lenovo Gen 4(20FC) Carbon loses audio after Lenovo System Update We have several of the Gen 4 X1 Carbons here at work and they work fine until Lenovo system updates gets run. We have had 4 people run the system updates and now the system has no audio. If you click the audio icon in the try, windows begins diagnosing the system. If you try to install a different driver, it fails with code 1. No matter if you uninstall, reinstall, different versions of the driver....nothing seems to restore the audio. I finally did a system restore to before lenovo system update was run and the audio returned to working. It seems to be a software problem but I would really like to know if there is some way to get it working without having to restore every time someone runs lenovo system update.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello,    I am looking to replace my aging Lenovo T420S and Lenovo x1 Carbon 1st generation. They have both served me well and I am happy with both.  I like the touch of Carbon but don?t use it that often. The machine will be perosnla machine but will be used for personal and business/work use. I saw the T460S and x1 Yoga yesterday at our IT department. I like the built quality of Lenovo T460S including keyboard but found X1 Yoga to be fragile. I couldn?t get my hands on X1 Carbon 4th generation and found out that it doesn?t have touch anymore. The weight difference is minimal between the three machines and I personally like the weight, feel and ruggedness of Lenovo T460S. Bottom line is does anyone have experience with these three machines? I can afford to replace only one machine now and it will be fully loaded (i7, 16GB and 1Tb PCIe-NVME drive). Is x1 Yoga rugged and reliable? The difference between X1 Carbon 4th Gen and T460S seems minimal. Thank You!Subhash

Hello, I was just wondering what happened to the X1 Carbon with the configuration of i7 core w/  4 GB of RAM? Are they not offering that model anymore? What happens if you ordered the i7, will there be any chances to the order?  Thanks, Alex

That would be a very good question. According to the PSREF it is compatible with the i7. If I were you I would just sit tight and see if they make it available.

I have a question about the behavior of the FN key on the Lenovo Carbon X1.  Does the FN latch when pressed and illuminate the LED in the upper right corner of the key? The FN key on this keyboard does not latch or illuminate the LED when pressed.  Instead of latching and maintaining the normal function key, for instance "Alt" + "F4" closing a program, it remains on the Lenovo mapped functions, muting the microphone.  Should the FN key behave like the Shift key or the CapsLock key. Thanks, jdoma7617

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon: FN key behavior

Good day and welcome to the community.

Try pressing and holding the Fn key and then tapping Esc to enable FnLk. That should switch the default action of the Fn-row keys to F1, F2, etc. Repeating Fn+Esc will reverse the default action and extinguish the LED.

Does this help?

Hey Folks I am having a few issues with my Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Generation (20A7006KAU) 1) I cannot install the Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver via the Intel Website. It says that I have to use the Lenovo proprietary driver which is outdated and seems to be having issues with WiDi. Is there a way around this? or am I really stuck with the Lenovo driver only? 2) I cannot install WiDi - Intel claims that the device does not qualify for WiDi. Lenovo have a driver for Windows 8.1 64bit which says it is not designed for my system. If anyone could help that would be brilliant!

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Generation

1) You can force the newer driver to install by using Device Manager and Have Disk. You'll get stuck at max brightness though.2) Don't really know about WiDi. Do you also have a supported Intel wireless card?

The Lenovo X1 Carbon has been a huge disappointment to me. It's form factor is very nice and it is very fast. However: 1) I've given up ever getting the Bluetooth to work correctly. My separate Lenovo bluetooth keyboard sits unused on my desk. I've tried everything. I had the keyboard replaced. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything over and over. I've had the wireless card replaced. Nothing ever works. It's rubbish, plain and simple. 2) The display has all sorts of problems.    a) There is one very bright spot when the screen displays white. It is NOT a pixel. It is a larger and fuzzier spot of brightness, may 2mm by 2mm. I'm guessing it is related to the LED backlighthing rather then the LCD display. It's very irritating.    b) There is a area around the whole edge of the display that is "brown". It almost looks like a page in a book looks when it gets soaked in water and the water seeps into the book - kinda like a watermark. (And no, it's not a real watermark. The computer has never been remotely wet). It's something faulty in the display. 4) The One Link Pro is very glitchy. It's gotten better with the various updates over the past few months, but it still fails on occasion -- about 1 to 2 times a week. 5) The adaptive keyboard is just plain irritating. If it is possible to design something expressly to annoy, then this is a perfect example of how to accomplish that. It often registers too many key presses when ... Read more

Thank you for posting your comments and bringing your concerns to the attention of the community. Allow me to express how sorry I am that you are having these problems with your X1. I can only imagine your frustration. I do not work for Lenovo. This is a peer to peer forum provided by Lenovo so that members may share their experiences and help each other. Your bluetooth post received replies. I'm sorry that the suggestions to update drivers did not work.
I have an X1 that has not experienced any problems. My X1 is my favorite laptop to use. Friends who have purchased one are enjoing theirs.. Considering that yours is not a year old yet, have you checked to see if any of the unresolved issues are covered under the warranty?

I would like to express my disappointment in Lenovo's product and their lack of apt customer service.I bought my X1 Carbon (adaptive keyboard) in Singapore while on holiday sometime late March.  I started using it mid-April.  I am currently residing in the Philippines. In the beggining, I had no issues with the unit.  Come late May, the screen started flickering in and out, accompanied by glitches and static formations - this happened usually when the device was running with a heavier load.  Apart from flickering, I noticed that the screen was a tad dim despite being at full brightness.Come early July, I contacted the service hotline (redirected to call center in Malaysia) to explain my concern.  The customer representative concisely told me that a technician from their partner in the Philippines would contact me very soon and drop by to wherever I am to repair the unit.  That I had nothing to worry about.  Clearly the customer representative knew this to be a known concern as he had very few questions before concluding his diagnosis of my unit. The wait was more than 2 weeks before I contacted the service hotline again, expressing concern that nobody got back to me despite getting an assurance that my issue would be resolved expeditiously.  This representative assured me that someone from their service center partner would contact me within the day. This still did not happen so I procured the number of their service partner and made... Hello everybody, is there anybody that has upgraded his 3rd Gen X1 Carbon to a 1TB ssd? I'm running out of place and would like to have a bigger ssd and do not know which one I could use. I tried reading in the forums, but was not able to find out which SSD would work. Somehow NVMe is not supported, it has to be a PCIe SSD (I think), but I'm not too familiar with these things. I looked at the new Samsung SM961 1TB that is just coming out, would that be able to work? The specs are here: https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/c/4/4/9/618ff48c1c0dc799c9442fd598fa06935527.pdf Any help would be deeply appreciated.Regards,Jochen

I'm trying to ascertain the warranty status of my Lenovo X1 Carbon, which was purchased second hand recently here in the UK. Inputting the serial number into the online system suggests that the machine still has warranty until 28/01/2019. But since I am not the original owner, will I still be covered by this warranty? I had thought that the warranty goes with the machine, until checking over the phone earlier today, when the agent suggested that I would need the original invoice/proof of purchase to be covered by the warranty. I had not thought that this was the case, and that I did not need documentation to claim the warranty. Could someone clarify this issue for me please? I have been trying to contact Lenovo by phone again for confirmation but their system appears to be down (I just get cut off every time).

All of the promotional materials for the X1 carbon talked about "no contract embedded 3G". My new X1 shipped with all the Lenovo Mobile Access software that links me to the no-contract website. However, after a long time on the phone with Lenovo Mobile Access they tell me that only X1's that shipped with a GOBI modem have this option. Mine shipped with an Ericsson modem. As far as I can tell I have to get a contract with AT&T and a new SIM to use mobile broadband? This is ridiculous. Some people got X1C's with GOBI, others with AT&T. It seems like false advertising to offer "no contract embedded 3G", and then be denied this service if you end up with an Ericsson and not a GOBI.

Contact customer service and send them a copy of the promotional material and ask them to swap it for what you want.

Answer:lenovo enhanced experience for X1 Carbon

Generations 1, 3, 4 and 5 of x1 carbon all have "real" function keys.  Gen 1 x1 carbon uses 3rd gen Intel Core CPUs.  (i.e. i5-3320)  EE 3 (now 3.2) works with windows 7 and should work on any of them:

Answer:Lenovo Carbon X1 Windows10 recovery

Hi, welcome to the forums.

It dependes on how you installed Linux on your Thinkpad.  I guess you want to be able to have a "dual Boot" machine, right? That when it turns on it will ask you if you want to run Windows or Linux.

You need to have a "boot manager", Linux have some, Windows has its own to help you do that.

But according on how you installed Linux, check that you haven wiped out the Windows partition. If you wiped out the Windows 10 partition, maybe you can try to reinstall it with the Windows 10 Media Creation tool. That image can also help you recover your Windows 10 partition if it was just removed from the boot sector.

But I don't have much experience with the Linux boot manager. I don't know if the Linux community keep using GRUB2 as some of its boot manager.

I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon i7, 8GB with 256GB SSD. I want to add some more storage to the laptop. I have a 128GB SSD card permanently installed in the SD card reader. This gives me an additional storage area. However, I need some more storage. Since the SSD is propetiery to Lenovo, its probably not possible to get something bigger than 256GB (also very expensive if you buy later on). I read on another thread that a secondary mSSD can be installed if WWAN card is taken out.  Has anyone replaced WWAN card with mSATA? Is this possible? I know it voids the warranty but I am not worried about warranty.  Thanks

Unfortunately I dropped coffee of my Lenovo X1 Carbon purchased in late 2012 early 2013 (Windows 7 non touch screen) while I was still living in the UK. After drying PC is working fine when connected to a screen via a display port but notebook screen was completely blank. Are there some fuses or inverter on the motherboard that I can look at?  Thank you Arthur

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon blank screen

Hi,I'd suggest the cause is the fusion in the LCD power circuit, you are right. Usually LCD fuses (there might be several units) are being placed near of the system board LCD connector, 3A32V and/or 5A32V.

Hey everyone! I just picked up 2nd Gen X1 Carbon from a friend who bought it new and only used a few times.  After installing and getting things going, I was rather surprised on the performance of this notebook.  I can't multitask one bit without the cpu and memory hitting 95-100% and freezing up.  The machine is really slugish and slow.  I had a couple of apps running on it along with 3-4 chrome windows and I was hitting 95% memory utilization.  The CPU on this is 2.49GHz and the memory is only 4GB and I was thinking it over before buying on whether the memory was enough, seems like it's not. I read on a few other board posts that the memory is soldered on to the board.  Has anyone every successfully and affortabily swapped out the board with something of higher performance and more memory (8-12GB)? If there's no solution, I'll have to sell this one off and buy another one. I really love the sleek design of the carbon, so I would probably fork out the cash for a Gen 3/4 X1. Thanks!Dan

X1C works otherwise ok but I have problems with display:-I can not change resolution with windows (Desktop=>Screen resolution), all of the dropdown boxes for selections do not let me select anything, as soon as they are openend by mouse click, they will be closed -I can not change resolution using Intel programs either (HD graphics, v 9.18.10.3359), symptoms are the same: if i select other resolution, it will be changed back to to old value within ~1 seconds after drop down selection list is closed. With two monitors I can not change positions of displays either: windows program will not let me move monitor images and Intel program crashes as soon as I try to move image of moditor. Latest drivers from Intel download page are not compatible with X1C, so I have used the latest driver found by System update with initial installation. I can not reinstall that driver anymore, because installation fails with some error (it does not tell any details). Any ideas how I can fix this? Laptop:LENOVO ThinkPad X1 Carbon i7-3667U 14inch PHD+ 8GB 240GB SSD FDE Intel HD 4000 FPR 3G 4cell  W7P64+W8P RDVD  Type: 3460-CLG

Dear Forum Support, Recently I have had issue with my Function key at the bottom left of my keyboard. The Function Keys do work correctly, its just this bottom left corner key "Fn" which cannot allow me to toggle between special function and regular function key. In order to use the regular function key i have to go to Keyboard, Function Key, switch to regular, and restart the computer. I recently did some change to my computer to improve gaming experience: update all drivers, update to windows 10, remove all windows things (system->Performance->Settings-> for best performance), I also use my battery for best performance and my video card (intel hd 5500). Nothing that should impact the Fn key except maybe the driver update for the keyboard, I actually do not know if I had to do a driver update specifically for the keyboard after the windows 10 update. I do have to use the Fn key regularly for Excel, and for gaming. But still less than many other keys (WASD) or (123456) or (shift, ctrl, tab) My question is: I cannot do a hardware scan, so how can i confirm that this specific key is not working properly or that something is blocking its use instead? Is there any way to block this key (activate or deactivate) that I might have done by mistake? (for example: pressing it for more than 10 seconds, or pressing it 10 times in a row, etc..) Looking forward to your help and attention, Best,Ted

Good evening everyone, It's been now 2 months since the X1 arrived. Movimg from standard-sized laptops (T61 & SL500), it's very liberating to have something so light and which recharges extremely quickly. I'm getting excellent battery-life to boot despite what a number of reviews say, it may be because my display is at 10 instead the 15 max. Going in, the big sacrifice for me was letting go the built-in burner  but I haven't missed yet! I do own an external self-powered one. What I do really miss though is an SDXC memory card slot. It should have been there and aftr looking inside, there appears to be space. The screen is simply superb. I can look at it all day. The anti-reflective coating does it for me which I found nearly impssibole to find among competing laptops. Fine details good apparent colors (Did not try to calibrate it yet) but it is a lot of realestate and some programs, particularly multimedia and video stuggle to refresh quickly. The keyboard is odd. Keys feel line and the back illumination is perfect. I will not lament the disappearance of thjat key which makes people sound mad and having it replaced by Home and End takes some learning but after a few weeks, they are useful there. The adaptive row seems to have this coolness to it as a concept but the execution is lacking. If only we could configre which key, I would put Volume and Brightness at all times and try to keep the F-keys too. If Lenovo can solve this via a soft... Read more

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon screen replacement

Hi,why have you decided laptop you are talking about is 3rd Generation? It's Gen1 based on a bit newer platform. That model (3460-35U) was listed within a PSREF.Broken screen in that laptop is HD+ (1600x900), model LG LP140WD2(TL)(E2), Lenovo FRU 04X1756 or ASM p/n 0A66692. Of course, you might replace it by another screen with a FRU from the fru_bom file you have linked.

Hi All My x1 Carbon came with Windows 8 pre-installed; however, I found it horrible and such I reinstalled Windows 7 64Bit (Personal Copy). After spending hours trying to download all the drives, I downloaded system update and it seemed to install 100% of them for me; however, the mute button does not work. If I press the mute button nothing happens, nor does the little LED light up. I have installed all Lenovo drivers under the sun, including the hot-button one; however, I still cannot get it to work. The Mute Microphone next to it works fine; however, not the mute speakers. The strange thing is that the Mute Speakers LED lights up during Boot (BIOS Screen) so its obviously working. Does anyone have any advice? I have a Late 2012 model - 3443-CTO Thanks!

Hey guys, So I just bought my first ever Lenovo laptop, the 3rd gen X1 Carbon. It's a great laptop, however, I absolutely hate all the extra software Lenovo puts on it. I find all of them useless and right now I'm having serious issues with the tracpkad. This happens basically:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REU5CK9X19k&feature=youtu.be Is it my unit that's faulty or have you guys experienced anything similar? My initial assumption was that it's a software issue with Lenovo's trackpad, but I'm not able to fix it anyhow.  All in all the trackpad has been a dissapointment so far and I prefer not returning this machine because of it....

Although doesn't seem as serious as that shown in the video, I do have that problem too...especially when I swipe from left to right to switch between apps. You're not alone.

Answer:X1 Carbon - Create Lenovo Recover CD

'afternoon...
welcome to the community.

i created my X220 set using a CD for the first (bootable) disk and DVDs for the remainder (three disks) of the set, for a total of four. the factory recovery DVD set for the same machine is three DVDs, the first being bootable. both sets result in the exact same factory-delivered condition.

my SOP is to always make my local disk set immediately upon receipt of any new machine, and to also call Service and request the factory set.

hope this helps.

Hi All, I am new to lenovo and to the forum. I just got a Lenovo X1 Carbon for the project of our company. We need the X1 Carbon to be able to run some software on XP, not virtually. Therefore I wanted to make the X1 Carbon dual boot with the original win8 and XP. As far as I know, I needed to format the X1 and  to install the XP, and then install the win8 again. Here is the question, the win8 is pre-installed on the X1, I do not have a hard copy of win8. How could I install the win8 after installing XP ? Wish anyone with experience on this can share the solution with me. Cheers !

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon Dual Boot with XP

Make a USB recovery drive before reinstalling.Thats the only option with a preload. With a retail serial number, you can download an iso with the upgrade assistant. Also, how much ram do you have. If yopu have more than 4GB, you will need 64 bit XP, or the performance will take a hit. I tried XP on my W530, but I had to change several settings in the BIOS/UEFI.

Hello! Could you please help me. I have X1 Carbon for about 1,5 years. So warranty is over.Today when I tried to power on my PC without AC power adapter, it failed. Then I pluged in AC adapter - windows loaded successfully, but Battery Icon says that "Battery is 18%, it is plugged in, but not charging". When I tried to unplug AC power, my PC turned off immediately. So battery is not working at all. I tried to install Lenovo Energy Management. It says, that I have battery error and suggests to replace the battery. I tried to temporarily remove the battery - no success. Again pc wont start without AC power adapter......What can I do also?  Battery was in perfect condition (80% wear level), so it would be really dissapointing to replace it...  PS: when computer is off, and I plug in power adapter, battery indicator blinks the following way: 3 times green, pause, 2 times orage, pause, 1 green. It seems like there is battery error, but probably there is some way to reset it. Thanks.

I bought and X1 Carbon last August and as incentive they sent you a free carrying case. I REALLY like the case. It's just the right balance of carrying other stuff and still reasonably slim. It has Lenovo written on it but made by Targus. It's green two tone. I'm buying another X1 Carbon for my boss and I'd like to get that case. But I can't find it or much of anything very close to it, they are either way to bulky or way too thin. I don't want a sleeve. The closest I can find is a Lenovo 14" Ultrabook that is set of Case + Sleeve. That does not look nearly as nice, don't need a sleeve and fairly expensive.

When you turn on the laptop all you get is the back-light.  You don't get the splash screen, POST or anything else for that matter. I've tried using the FN+F7 to make sure it wasn't set to projector mode but that didn't do anything.  It's like the power cable to the LCD is connected but the data cable is disconnected.  I suspect this is the case due to the screen going "weird" as the user puts it.  I also suspect that it might have been dropped. What I am wondering is if there's a BIST (Built-in Self Test) for the LCD or anything like that.  I'd love to avoid the support charges. Also, the numbers on the white tags on the back of the laptop have worn off, is there a way to get the serial number without the original paperwork?

I am now waiting "3-5" days for someone from the sales department to let me know when I will get a replacement X1 for my currently defective unit. One week after getting my X1C, the screen went crazy. Apparently the ribbon connecting to the motherboard is kinked or loose. I have been very disappointed with my experience purchasing this machine (shipping delays, misinformation from CSRs, poor customer service for returns) and obviously the defective unit itself. However, in looking at the alternatives, for the features that matter to me (light & thin, trackpoint, keyboard, durability) I don't feel like I have any other options.

It would be nice if there was an option in the BIOS to treat Fn+Left as Home, Fn+Right as End, and ideally Fn+Backspace as Delete.

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon - Fn+Left as Home, Fn+Right as End

Yes, please make it happen, "Please stay with Windows conventions."One of the reason I don't like about Acer laptops is that their fn-left and fn-right are hardwired for display brightness. So when I checked the photos of keyboard on Lenovo Carbon, I am pretty relieved to see it's not hardwired for anything, but then in the end after getting a X1 Carbon, the fn-left and fn-right are not working! Why?!

When they decided not to have more memory options for the X1 Carbon. Who nowadays purchases an i7 processor with just 4 gigs of RAM? Why is the 8Gig configuration limited to the i5 processor? I had been waiting all Summer for this machine, and when I came to purchase a bunch for my team, the configurations were unusable for us as we need 8Gigs minimum, with 16 gigs preferred as we need to run an app server, a database, and a development environment, and a couple of VM's. Does anyone have other Ultrabooks they like? How about the Samsung Series 9 or the Zenbook? Mike

I don't know if the Linux community keep using GRUB2 as some of its boot manager.

hi all, I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd generation which has Windows 10 installed. Since I?ve purchased this laptop the touch and the "red nipple" doesn?t work properly.  When i switch on my laptop, the touch pad / red nipple works for approx 5 seconds and then it freezes. Occasionally it will work for a lot longer before it stops. I have to use a USB mouse every time ... - I?ve checked and made sure i have the latest drivers from the Lenovo website. Ive also used the "system update scan" and made sure i have all the latest drivers (Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad) - I?ve uninstalled the drivers and then re-installed them- The touch pad is visible in the control panel and i can disable the red nipple etc.- I?ve formatted my hard  drive and re-installed Windows 10- I?ve tried a different set of mouse drivers Does anyone know how to fix this? I really enjoy using this laptop and have always just carried a USB mouse with me. I would really appreciate your help.

Hello,I recently got a nice 2nd Generation X1 Carbon and I need Linux on it. But I'm having problems to tell the UEFI how to boot Linux. The story:One month ago I got the computer, installed Linux on it and the UEFI thing worked smoothly (after upgrading the BIOS to version 1.14). BUT, the computer broke. They came and repaired it by changing the motherboard.Of course, after that UEFI needed to be told again about how to boot my Linux. I upgraded the BIOS again (this time it was version 1.16, and, thanks Lenovo, this time it was possible without Windows with a bootable image). Then I proceeded as before but, irrespective of the UEFI option I choose in the BIOS, UEFI refuses to get the information about my Linux installation. It looks to me like if something was protected against writing, but I cannot determine what's wrong in my BIOS settings. Question:Does anyone have experience on updating the UEFI of X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (BIOS v. 1.16) using "efibootmgr"? Since people say that UEFI is a new thing and it is buggy particularly in this computer (which I find weird given it is supposed to be a top-quality ultrabook), I'm tempted to forget about it and go for Legacy mode using Grub2.But I would prefer to use UEFI. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo X1 carbon (2nd Gen): problems with UEFI

Hello again,I solved the issue. In case someone could be interested, this was what I did:In order to tell the UEFI about the kernel I wanted to boot, I was using SystemRescueCD version 4.2.0. It was working before (with BIOS v. 1.14). But it seems it does not work with BIOS v. 1.16. I tried with a bootable Arch Linux CD (2014.07.03), and it worked straightforwardly. The version of efibootmgr in SystemRescueCD was too old for BIOS v. 1.16. Best regards  PS (a bit off-topic): In my opinion Lenovo is until now not completely against Linux users (aside from some high-level political links with some OS companies and its implications). And I thank you for that. But please Lenovo, do not forget about the Linux community. We have thought up to now that Lenovo is Linux-friendly. I think this is beneficial for both parties and I think it does not costs so much for a big company as Lenovo.

HELP!!!My Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon has some real problems. It's my work laptop, and it's brand new. When I got it, it worked fine until I brought it home. I haven't plugged it into the charger for 2 days. When I tried to turn it on (even plug it in), it was dead. The Lenovo Service team changed its motherboard. After that, it worked fine until I did the same thing at home. I tried to turn it on, but this time it was charged, but not used. When I got to work, it was still dead and the Lenovo guy changed its battery. My boss was really upset (for the second time). And now I should probably never mention to my boss that it's dead again. I used it at home for work, and now it just won't start. I tried pressing the power buttor for 30s and similar things I read online, but nothing worked. I even tried the refresh button. No reaction. My charger is working properly, and while at work (while it was fine) I kept it charging all the time (like everybody else). I don't know what's wrong with this laptop. I mean, the motherboard and the battery have been replaced, and the charger works fine. I'm not doing any difficult work on it, I just use it for PDFs and Word and occasional web search. I can't go to work and say that my laptop is dead for the third time. No one will believe that it's not my fault ( P.S. is it possible for this laptop's battery to become empty even when I'm not using the laptop and it's not charging? Please help! At least I... I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon and I was considering either purchasing the Thinkpad Onelink Pro Dock or the Thinkpad One Link Dock.  I need to be able to connect a monitor and keyboard to my new computer. I have a some questions that I was hoping someone can help with.  1.  What is the difference between the Pro Dock and the Regular Dock? 2.  If my monitor does not have HDMI will these two docking stations still allow me to connect a monitor? 3.  Can you connect two monitors with both the pro dock and regular dock stations? 4.  Are there other docking station options that are better? 5.  Do these docking stations work with all versions of the x1 carbon? Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I tried to power cycle it, and reset battery by using a paper clip on small button under the laptop but does not power on. It just keeps blinking, and the ac port on the laptop blinks orange as well.

I was recently given a Lenovo X1 Carbon and it has Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.104). The USB port on the right side, which I believe is the 3.0 port doesn't function. When I connect a flash drive to this port, the light on flash drive comes on for couple of seconds and turns of. I am not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. Here is the screenshot of USB controllers in Device manager. I read previous threads with similar issues, but did not find a solution. (I tried to unisntall device drivers, restart and re-install the drivers. It did not help)

Answer:Issue with USB 3.0 port on Lenovo X1 Carbon 3444 -BDU

The USB port on the right is on a separate audio card. I have seen them fail. I would first examine the port and look for bent pins

Hello, I have bought the X1 Carbon and have problems since day one. The Laptop always bluescreens the hell out of me. I have tried almost everything but I am not able to fix this problem. The bluescreens appear kind of randomly. Sometimes it happens when I am typing a document, sometimes it happens when I am watching videos and sometimes it just happens when I am doing nothing at all.  Yesterday I installed Windows 7 Prof 64-bit from scratch (in hope to get that expansive laptop running!!!!!!!) and now I am not able to finish my Windows updates! The only driver I have installed so far was the one for my WLAN. Than I started my Windows Updates. After like 3 tries and 3 bluescreens I tried to select less updates (6 instead of 260). Now he is installing 6 updates (4MB) since 4 hours. I have tried nearly everything except a BIOS update. I have read that this could be a SSD problem? I really don't know what to do. Please help me to fix my problem. I am exhausted searching for it. If you need any information please ask and I will provide them. Best regards ehd

Not all X1 Carbons have WWAN; many were WWAN ready, with the antennas and SIM card slot fitted but no WWAN card. You need a machine with a WWAN card and a suitable SIM for WWAN to work.

I have a brand new Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 3 that charges just fine when connected directly to the power adapter. But I purchased a Lenovo OneLink as well, and the Carbon will simply not charge. When connected to the OneLink Pro I can see in the X1 Power Manager that the charger is recognized. It says "90W Adapter Connected", but the battery in the Carbon slowly drains as if it is not connected to a power source. I have checked the Battery Tab in the Power Manager and in Battery Maintenance I've even changed the setting from Custom to Always Fully Charge. No dice. The OneLink has the latest driver and firmware. I'm, as you can imagine, at my wits end.  I have two OneLinks, at home and work, and they are both doing this. I welcome any guidance the community has. Thank you in advance!

Hey Lenovo, I'm writing because I have not been able to solve my Wi-Fi problems. The Intel Wireless AC 7260 is very unstable and does not update properly. I am about 10-15 feet away from my router, which normally is fine, even for my Galaxy Neus 5, but speed drops are detrimental to my usage. Often, it'll fluctuate between 3-5 bars, and occasionally drop connection completely. Here are things I've tried: -Update drivers (I am currently using 16.6.0.8, which allows me to connect. However, when I try to update to 16.10.0.5, it won't actually update, but rather it stays at 16.6.0.8. So that being said, I found a direct update installer as opposed to the Lenovo update software and was able to install it. Not surprisingly, it didn't allow me to connect to my router whatsoever. It would say that the router is not compatible, and I would have to roll-back my driver to 16.6.0.8 in order to gain internet access.)-Change power settings to maximum power.-Unselect allow to turn off wi-fi when low on power.-Installing drivers version 17 and 16.5.-Uninstalling drivers completely, reinstalling.-Restarting the computer.-Already uninstalled Norton-Running Lenovo's system update-Windows update-Firewall exceptions  Additionally, I should mention that I'm 10-15 feet away through a wall. I am positive that it's not a router issue, as I have been using this router for about half a year prior to receiving my Lenovo X1 Carbon. I am using Windows 8.1, 64 bit. Another thing I shoul... Hello I have had my Lenovo X1 Carbon for 1 week now to replace my X301, I have VPN issues through the integrated mobile wireless, i.e. it try's and fails, does not even get to the VPN verification stage. I have disabled all Firewalls on the device however it is like it is being blocked by the carrier.  I am using Microsoft Windows VPN and it works fine through to my office on WIFI and Hardwired and even paired with my Cell Phone, but not Lenovo Integrated Mobile. Using IPSEC authentication for the VPN to our company router (Draytek 2820n) This is driving me crazy, has anybody else had similar issues, or shed some light on this.ThanksChris

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon Mobile Boardband VPN does not work.

Hi cpickles,

Has your X1 Carbon's WAN card been updated with these?

Have you tested the WAN card without the VPN software just to make sure it works?

Hi there Last week, my laptop (Windows 10 x64) crashed into a bluescreen ("SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED"). I googled the error and tried several fixes. The bluescreen does not occur anymore but the computer always freezes after several minutes and gets stuck in a boot loop. The strange thing is that when I unplug the battery, the laptop runs without any problems, but only with the one link (and not with the regular charging cable). Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!Best, groovi

Hi guys,

troubles started only after the upgrade to Windows 10 and I frankly tried to ignore the 1-2 BSOD's per day as I'm working 10h+ and still with deadlines in tow.
Lately the BSOD's hit more often and from different reasons: Kernel Security Check Failure, IRQL not less or equal, Memory Management...
I already ran all kinds of hardware tests, everything seems to be fine.
Please note that the SysnativeFileCollection is a .rar inside a .zip as the file was too big.

PLEASE help,

ZS.

Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd 20A7 touchpad not responding

Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

Z.
