X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

Question: X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

We bought around 40 of these X220 I5 before xmas and now more than 20 of them have failed. The company we bought them from tried everything but they ended up switching the mainboard on the first two that failed. We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD. All of them with the same problem that is described in subject. Are there any known batch issues? The problem is not with the tablet version and sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Thx

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

I was preparing a X220 for a VP in my office and i left on vacation. When i came back, the laptop was dead and i can't power it on. I unplugged the AC and removed the battery and waited a bit, plugged everything in again and still the same thing. The battery LED blinks 3 times then nada. (no fans, nothing) I tried a little trick from the S model, removed AC and battery and pressed power button for 30secs and re-plugged everything but it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

Help! I built an Athlon machine from used parts, an Abit KT7A mb, Athlon Tbird processor,3D Prophet 4000XT AGP Video. New CD/RW and HD. Installed XP Pro, updated to SP2. Ran great for 2-3 months.

Now it's dead. I donno if I had shut if off or left it running for a week or two, but hadn't touched it. I found it off. This is what it's like. I press the power button, the green power light flashes once. The light on the CD/rw flashes. Then everything is dead. If I unplug it and plug it in again I can repeat this.

I have disconnected all cards, CD, HD, floppy, and unplugged both Dimms. Same thing. Googling around, it seems like the brief flash of power is supposed to indicate a short. You're supposed to disconnect all peripherals to isolate. That hasn't helped.

Oh, on ps connector to mb when I unplug it and test with a multi-meter I get 5.0 volts across several of the wires or when grounding them to chassis (through multimeter voltage test). Is this correct?

What should I try next? remove mb, put on antistatic mat, hook up power supply, and jump start pins?

thanks in advance.

I have a T7500, was working perfectly until I I upgraded the CPU`s to hex core, when I try to boot, it does not get past the error. The Power Light is solid green, and lights 3 and 4 are solid, this is not a fault code listed in the manual, and have found nothing online to help. I have removed all but 2 sticks of memory and checked the pins on the CPU riser, all seem to be fine. And system works when riser is removed. Does anyone have any clues or fixes that might help me with this.
Many Thanks

I have a Dell Latitude E5250. When plugging in the AC adapter the only light that comes on is the power button light and it's blinking continuously. The other indicator lights are off. The system board has been replaced, no change. After the system board was replaced the battery indicator light came on and the battery charged, though the laptop would not power on when the power button was pressed. It would light up then go out.  I've removed the battery and AC adapter, held down the power button to discharge flea power, no change. Followed Dell TechDirect directions to remove the battery and CMOS battery, then insert the AC adapter and power on the laptop, no change. I've tried known good RAM. I've removed all components including the LCD cable, no change. When the AC adapter is installed the power button light blinks continuously, no pattern, no other indicator lights come on. Any thoughts? I'm wondering if it's a video issue, bad Touch LCD?
Thanks.

Welcome to TSG, Palautot.

Googling the topic brought up some interesting results. Canons support center, for this issue says
Unfortunately, the issue you describe seems to indicate that your product may require repair service. If you feel your product might require service, a Technical Support Representative will be happy to answer any questions you may have and explain the service options available to you. Someone else says they solved it by powering the printer off, unplugging it, manually moving the cartridge carrier over to the center. Remove the cartridges, clean the print heads (or possibly replace the cartridges. Check the printer for any "burns" or obvious damage, then reassemble everything and try again.

HELP!!

I have a L500 which does nothing apart from the green light flashes when the power cable is plugged in but does nothing else

Answer:Satellite L500 is OFF and green light flashes if connected to mains

Hi

What indicator do you mean exactly?

The DC indicator (first from left) glows green when the power is being correctly supplied from AC adaptor. If the output voltage is abnormal or if the computers power supply malfunctions this indicator will go OFF.

The other indicator (power led second from left) glows green when the computer is turned on. If you turn the computer off into sleep, this LED starts flashing amber.

Furthermore if there is a memory malfunction the Power LED will repeatedly flash
On for 0.5 sec and off 0.5 sec
If there is an issue with slot A the LED flashes amber twice then green once
If there is an error in slot B, the LED flashes amber once then green twice
If there is error in slot A and B the LED flashes twice amber and green.

But if the power LED flashes only green, I assume there is a motherboard problem.

I just purchased a used comp off ebay (probably a bad mistake) that was suppose to boot to c:. This is a AMD 1800 XP, 128 MB RADEON video card, 60 gig hardrive, CDRW, 52X CD. When I try to boot the computer the monitor light immediately goes from green to orange. The monitor works fine on my other computers. I also noticed that the video card was loose when I first got it out of the box, i secured it but then found out the problem. I have also used a video card out of another one of my comps, nVidia 32MB, and still got the same results. I can usually figure stuff like this out, but this MB is extremely complicated, and the power supply has more wires and cables than I have ever seen. I thought maybe the hardrive wasnt spinning and tried another one and still had the same result. My video card and processor fans are all running so there seems to be power. The CD drives have power. I also noticed that there is a light on the front of my case, dont know what it is, but it also turns orange. Any suggestions.

So today I was just watching a YouTube video, not gaming, not doing anything too intensive. Suddenly my computer shuts off with the power button blinking green. No BSOD, just powered off and won't turn back on. I tried unplugging the power cable and holding down the power button for 30 secs with no luck. My computer is pretty hot idle at 60 degrees Celsius. But it's been this way for years with no problem. Could something overheating just by watching a YouTube video? When a CPU overheats it goes into blue screen right? So it can't be my CPU. I have a cooler master PSU. CM is a trusted brand. And I also have an MSI motherboard.

Answer:Computer randomly turns off with green blinking green light on power

Doesn't necessarily mean the screen will blue out because of heat problems mate run the BIOS and post back the readings for the CPU temp (seems a tad high to me for idle) and the CPU fan speed.

The other thing to do is check out the PSU as well via these
PSU - Jump Start

http://www.sevenforums.com/vip/257690-psu-how-test.html#post2130086

but try the BIOS first and if you do the PSU stuff DO NOT attempt to open the device itself you just need to measure the volts on the leads. However volts does not necssarity mean enough current (amps)

Hi community I have a 3000 C200 that, until last week, was running perfectly. I shut it down fine one evening then when I returned to it, dead. When I press the power button, only the battery light illuminates. It flashes steadily red 5 times, then quickly orange once then red once, then repeats. There is no other signs of life. If I leave the machine plugged in overnight then try, the power light comes on and the fans spin up. This lasts for about half a second then it powers off. As background, I have never used the laptop on battery power, always the mains and as such I am on my 2nd or 3rd battery (last replaced over 2yrs ago) and my 2nd charger (also replaced 2-3yrs ago). I didn't have these symptoms when I have made replacements in the past. Any advice? I am thinking motherboard tba, but without checking the error code (Doctor Google was not much help!!) I don't want to throw money at it. Regards Paul

have a T7500 that when rebooted, will take anywhere between 10-15 shutdown/startups before getting boot screen. Power button is green and 3 4 stay green when it is attempting to boot. I can't find what error this might indicate... any help would be much appreciated...

Thanks

Answer:T7500 green power button 3 4 green lights, takes several attempts before getting boot screen

ubearcat,The led error represents ACPI S3 Suspend to RAM Windows Standby State. Try the steps below to resolve.Changing the power management options in the operating systemSometimes just changing the software settings in the operating system power options will fix the issue. Access to the power options in Windows can be done through the Control Panel. Depending on your version and view by settings, you may or may not see a power option link. In that case, look for power options under the hardware category. Once there, create a new plan or modify an existing plan, changing the advanced settings as needed. If changing the operating systems power options does not fix the problem, you can try changing the APCI setting to the computers Basic Input/Output System (BIOS).  Once there, you need to look for Power Management Options. There you will find the different ACPI standby states.

For some reason two of the LCDs at our office, when the employee steps away for a couple minutes, I think it goes into power save mode and the screen goes black but it won't come back up when they return and shake the mouse or hit any keys. The green LED flashes during this time as well. Any clue what may be causing this or how to fix it? We do have APC BackUPS' attached to each. Could this be a problem?

Answer:LCD, Green LED Flashes and won't come back on after power save

Are you sure the PC isn't hibernating?

Go into Power Options and check the Hibernate tab to see if hibernation is enabled.

If the system goes into hibernation, moving the mouse and/or tapping keys will not bring it back. You have to hit the power button on the PC.

Hello, I have a problem with my p9x79 motherboard, it has a new 3930k processor installed and good ram and a known working graphics card. When I press the power button it turns on for a split second and the cpu light flashes red once and the two led numbers at the bottom flash 00 once also the cpu fan spins a bit. After 4-5 seconds it then does the exact same thing again over and over. The cpu pins appear to be fine and not bent everything is pushed in place and the BIOS is updated to the latest version. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong please?
Thank you.

Answer:P9XZ79 DELUXE 3930K WONT POST FLASHES RED LIGHT ONCE THEN RE-BOOTS

No need to shout by the way. (Capitals means shouting).
It sounds as though there is insufficient power to the M/B. Is the PSU capable of supporting that video card and CPU. Have you made sure that the M/B power leads are properly connected including the additional flying lead with just power to the M/B.
Are you sure that the heat sink compound between the processor and the Heat sink fan is effective.
Are you sure your memory is compatible with that M/B

Hi everyone,

My pc just shut down this morning. I had a spare power pack- brand new and I fitted that.

Windows ran perfectly for 10 minutes then the same thing happened again!

I noticed on both occasions, that even after I had removed the extenal power lead, the green power 'on' light kept on flashing on/off.

I have never noticed that before when a power pack 'blew'.

Does anyone think I was unlucky with a 'duff' replacement power pack?

Is the flashing power light indicative of some oother fault?

Any and all help welcome. PLEASE!

Many thanks.

I found a 1.7 ghz p4 motherboard on the cheap to upgrade my old p3 667, and i bought it in "working" condition, but i don't think so. Anyways, i got a pentium 4 support psu hooked up, and some pc-800/8 ram (it takes pc-800, would it work with pc-800/8?), and powered it on, and it just makes some strange beep code, followed by 1-1-1-1 beep code, but it dosen't post or show the bios, just a blank screen. So i reset the bios by taking out the battery for about 8 hours to ensure there was no charge left, and powered it back on, now it does not beep, but the power light just blinks, and still no screen.

Anyways, it is an HP-Vectra VL-800 motherboard
P4 1.7 ghz socket 423
pc-800/8 (takes pc-800 ram, but i think 800/8 works?)
the cpu fan comes on if that is any help.

My HP Pavillion a400n power light flashes but computer will not power up or boot.  Is it possible that I got a virus?  I had Norton installed on it and the other computer which s hooked up to it via wireless is still working with no problems.

Answer:Power light flashes

If it won't power up at all its definitely not a virus but a hardware issue. What happens when you press the power button? Does it make any noises like fans or harddrives spinning up or is it just dead?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can make towards a solution.

I should point out here that I have looked over the forum before asking my question and as it seems slightly different in the way that it happened I thought I would ask.

My system spec:
AMD 64 Athlon 3400 & Fan Kit
Asus A8V Wifi Motherboard
WesternDigital SATA 120GB HD 7,200rpm
Sparkle 6800 128Gb Graphics
2 Gb Geil Duel Channel Ram (4*512)
Sony Floppy
NEC DVD Writer
Lian-Li Case
600W Power Supply

I build the computer last night, spent lots of time making sure I followed all the directions. Spent about 20 mins wondering if I should turn it on to see if the processor fan would turn. After a few ciggys I finally build up the courage to turn it on and it all lit up wonderfully. Power light and case fans came alive CPU fan turned and the monitor flickered to life. Went through the BIOS and set the DVD Drive as the boot disk so I could install Windows XP.

Restarted my PC and it asked me if I wanted to boot from CD or HD went for the CD option and started the Window installation, it then said that it was a new HD and needed to be formatted I said ok and at 5% I realised that I was actually installing Windows ME by mistake. Being the stupid person I am I turned off the powersupply switch.

When I tried to wake up the PC I get no power supply fans no CPU fan no case fans but there is a green light on the motherboard. I have tried removing the Graphics card the HD so far. Tonight I will try to strip it do... Read more

On my brother-in-laws PC when the power swith is pressed all that happens is the light on the switch flashes and the CPU fan starts and speeds up and slows down, it does not even get to post screen.I have tried it on a different monitor, tried a different memory stick, unplugged everything except the memory but still no post screen and I have tried a different PSU.

Answer:Light on power switch just flashes

Hmmm - Sounds like your motherboard may have gone for a burton. Try removing and reseating the RAM, you could try removing and reseating the CPU, but if you do that remember you will need to reapply some thermal paste or a pad.It may be worth first however, resetting the CMOS using the jumper - it probably won't do anything, but I have managed to bring a couple of computers in the same state back to life by doing this.

Greetings,, I have a Dell Dimension E510. The other night, my son went to shut down the computer, and before it went down the correct way, he turned the power off. Now when he tries to turn the pc on, the power light will flash slowly, but the pc will never boot up. If it was a bad power supply, the power button would not even light up... right? Any ideas?

Answer:power light flashes, but pc won't boot

Get your Service Tag number (on the system and the paperwork) and type it in here to access all the stuff on your PC: http://support.dell.com/support/top...t_central?~ck=ln&c=us&cs=04&l=en&lnki=0&s=bsd
Look in the FAQ's or the manuals for how to reset the CMOS and that will probably fix it.
Your system has gotten stuck in a power save state.
The E510's need a BIOS upgrade (under downloads) to fixe several problems. Get it too

Hello,
Was experiencing general issues with my windows profile after windows updates last patch Tuesday so I initiated a system restore and let it run today.  After completion laptop turned off (instead of rebooting?)

Pressing the power button: Power button turns white (on) for ~30 seconds, then laptop turns off (indicated by power button light)
no fans
no screen (back-light or otherwise)
no POST codes - beep codes or light codes.
no other visible activity

During that period nothing else happens, unless I press the power button again. If I do this
The fans spin up momentarily
The system then powers off (as indicated by the white power light)

I've tried:

Disconnect power/battery and hold power button (60 seconds)
Power system on with just battery
Power system on with just wall power
Remove mSATA HD and repeat the above
Disconnect video connector and repeat above
Remove mPCI WiFi module and repeat above
Completely disassemble and remove CMOS battery (tested at 3.1 VDC) for 60 seconds, reassemble and repeat above

All with no change in behavior

I am able to get a light code 2 Amber / 3 White if I remove the RAM module (as expected)
D + PWR diagnostics cycle successfully through a range of colors then nothing

Laptop is 2 months out of warranty.  Any help debugging the issue is appreciated!

Hi,
I picked up this Alienware 5700 off ebay to hopefully refurbish for my son but I'm new at this and still learning and so this thing has me baffled. The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No power, no lights but green light on power supply blinks rapidly

Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I have a Gateway, model ID49C. I bought it new about 3 years ago but replaced its battery less than a year ago.

This phenomenon has been happening for more than a year: When I plug in my computer to charge, sometimes the front power light (orange when charging) and the light for the power button start flashing in unison and the computer stops receiving charge. It immediately stops when I unplug the computer. This only seems to happen when the computer is open -- I can still fully charge it overnight. Lately it's started to happen so often that my computer can barely charge at all from the number of times I have to unplug it.

Does anyone know what's going on, or where I could look to find more info? Thanks for your help!

I have what I presume is a power supply problem:

When I turn my PC on at the plug, the green power light on the front of my case flashes at me, and I can't turn my PC on until it's stopped. The light on the back of the PSU also flashes. Now if it only flashed for thirty seconds, I wouldn't care. What difference does an extra thirty seconds? It's not as if the intarweb is going to die in the space of time it takes for me to turn the PC on at the plug, and then actually turn it on. The fact is, it flashes for a full thirty minutes, which leaves me sat in my chair, twiddling my thumbs. I don't get much time after work between coming home and going to bed, and in those thirty minutes I can get a lot done, which is why its' really starting to annoy me. It started about a month ago, with thirty seconds of flashing, and has slowly built up to thirty minutes.

Now if it's something I can fix with the right-sized hammer, then fine, I'll do it over the weekend, but if it's a case of getting a new PSU, well, I'm building a new computer in four or five weeks, and really don't want to be spending money on a new power supply - I'm going to have to borrow money from my parents as it is.

I've tried plugging the power cable directly into the plug socket, rather than into a surge protector - no difference.

I've tried unplugging the PSU from the motherboard and everything connected to it, then reconnecting it all - no diff... Read more

Found out I had a faulty RAM module yesterday, and took it out, thinking that it might have had something to do with the power light flashing, amongst other things... it hadn't.

Does anyone at least know the cause of the problem? It's getting very annoying.

Hi.

I have a LG TFT monitor from 2009. A fews days it was troublesome in getting a display. I pulled out and reconnected the VGA connector and rebooted. Eventually I got the display back. However now the power light flashes and there's no display.

Last night I left it running and it said something like 'no signal...' with circled circles. I rebooted a spare PC and it was working again. This morn it's back to a flashing power light and no display. Is the monitor finished?

Update: I left it running and connected to my spare PC for over 15 minutes and the display just returned. :confused

Answer:LG monitor power light flashes and no display.

If you can borrow another monitor and VGA cable, I'd hook it to the PC and see what happens.

If the other monitor shows the same problems, it's likely a problem with you PC's video card.

If the other monitor works, try the old one with the different VGA cable.

If neither of these solve them problem, the issue is with the old monitor itself.

Answer:U430 Won't Power On, Battery light flashes

Hi TomCrooky ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Based on what you have with orange battery light flashes 3 times (Page30)Status :Fast blinking amber  Reason :There is a problem with the battery or the battery connection

Otherwise it would stay Solid amber : The battery has between 5% and 20% charge. or just off .It may also indicate that the system itself is not receiving the power it needs and would even fail to charge the battery.

Would the computer turn on using the novo key instead of the power Would there be any loose power port or broken pins ?

Is the adapter working ok? ( using a volt meter if available or charging another device ) Or, would another adapter power on the pc ?

The battery is built in and may void the warranty if the chassis is opened so best that you check your warranty and give tech support a call for a probable motherboard issue / adapter issue  and provide you the repair service.

Update us how it goes .

I have a Sony VGC-RB42G computer. I recently moved my computer, cleaned off all the dust, and when I plugged everything back in, it won't power up. The light on the power supply blinks green, inside the motherboard also has a green light that blinks as well. It has a ticking sound too, but I am not sure if it is coming from the power supply or the motherboard. Any idea what could be wrong.

FYI, I have already unplugged everything from the power supply, pulled out the ram, checked the battery, and put everything back together and still no change. One thing I thought was strange was after I unplugged everything, I pulled the power into the power supply again and this time the green light came on but did not blink. It stayed solid.

Hi Wacky78900,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

My U305 no longer powers up. Whether battery plugged in or not, battery light flashes and nothing else happens.

Michael

Answer:Satellite U305 No power, battery light flashes

Hallo Michael

There must be some serious issue with power supply electronic. If there is serious problem with power supply the notebook sends hexadecimal code and this code can help technicians to identify the problem.

I am afraid there is nothing you can do about it so please contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help.

Hi guys,

I have the above model and recently when I plug my power cord at the back of the laptop instead of the usual green constant light indicating charging, the light keeps flashing and the orange light of low battery keeps flashing as well.

I checked the outlet, unplugged the power cord from the laptop and plugged it in back again but doesn't help. A few times it started charging so all was fine and now it again refuses to charge.

Any suggestions how I can fix this will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Dante

Answer:Satellite A30 - power light flashes and battery not charging

It seems like a hardware problem?

Usually if the power LED flashes then this sounds not good because the LED provide an error code which can be read by a notebook technician?

But before you will contact the notebook technician for the help try to do this:
Remove the battery pack and disconnect the AC adaptor from the notebook?
Wait about 20-30min and then connect both parts again.

Then try to power up the notebook?

If it doesn?t help that it?s time for the ASP call?

Hello

I have a problem, when Toshiba Portege Z830-10F loading, the screen is off, power light flashes green two times two times yellow and repeated, screen not turn on.
What does it mean?

(PC was left only at night on table)
I try disconnect battery and load without it, it did not help.

Answer:Portege Z830-10F no display - power light flashes

DC IN indicator (first from left):
Flashing orange indicates a problem with the power supply, You should initially try plugging the AC adaptor into another power outlet. If it still does not operate properly, you should contact Toshiba support in your country.

Power indicator (second from left):
Blinking orange indicates that the computer is in sleep mode and that there is sufficient power available (AC adaptor or battery) to maintain this condition. In sleep mode this indicator will turn on for one second and off for two seconds.

Try also this.
Remove battery, disconnect AC adaptor, press and hold power button 30 sec long.
Now connect battery and AC adaptor and power up the unit.

I think only ASP's have this kind of information.

If you have tried different memory, and tried the memory in different slots, its probably a Mainboard problem.

My tecra 9100 is no longer booting up, when i press the power button the laptop acts although it is going to boot up (only for a slip second) but instead completely shuts down and the power light begins to flash in a sequence of (2 short, 1 long, 2 short, 2 long, 1 short). I really need some help and i was just wondering if anyone has had the problem before and knows how to fix it.

Thanks in advanced

Answer:Tecra 9100 will not start up, power light flashes

Hi Tayler

I am afraid there is some problem with board electronic. When power light flashes it sends hexadecimal code. This code should help technicians to find out what is wrong with the notebook.

Only thing you can do is to remove battery and try to start your notebook. I do not believe this will help but you can try. If the same happen you must contact service partners in your country and ask for help. Sorry! :(

I was hoping to resurrect my unused Acer Aspire D150-1189 to make it a dedicated machine for an IP camera.  It originally came with Windows XP on it and was upgraded to Windows 7 Home.  I have also had opensuse 11.0 and Moblin and Meego on it. Since I was only going to use it as a recorder for my IP camera I was planning on putting a lightweight linux OS on it.  I have tried Lubuntu, Cub Linux, Vector linux, LXLE linux, all to no avail. They seem to install OK, but every few seconds during installation the screen would go black and the power light would flash red.  I would press the power button and it would go green, the screen would come on to show the progress of the installation, but after a few seconds the screen would go black and the power light would flash red. This would happen all through the installation of any OS and then when the install was finished the netbook would reboot to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left. If Itried to install another OS, when it got to the partition part, it would show the last OS as being installed. I have tried a live USB and live CD and although it boots up the same black screen and flashing red power light occur.  Any ideas what I could do to correct this?

I have a feeling this is not going to be good but...

My computer no longer POSTs. Power is being fed to the motherboard (onboard LED is on). However, I cannot get the computer to boot. A week or two ago, I had trouble booting when after shutting the computer down. I would wait 5-10 minutes, hit the power button and everything would work fine as long as I did not shut it down. I recently moved my computer to another room, requiring that I power down obviously. Worked fine in the other room, brought it back to the first room and it would no longer POST.

I've tried unplugging everything but the barebones essentials (motherboard, and one HDD) figuring it was a lack of power. I've tried booting with only the motherboard plugged in, no luck.

I recently (about a month and a half ago) bought a new HDD (the seagate listed below) and installed a copy of XP Pro I bought from our university ($8 total for XP pro and Office 2003!). I updated all of my drivers, updated my BIOS, my chipset, etc. and everything worked fine. The aforementioned problem did not occur until about three weeks later.

The only clue I have to this problem is this, after about 10-15 minutes, the computer on LED flashes and my CPU fan moves with it in unison. It blinks in a sequence of 1-1-3-17-1. After about a minute, it repeats. Normally BIOS POST codes come in the form of beeps for most computers, right? I figure this is probably the last words of a dying computer. I am attempting... Answer:No power to PC but I get a green light on motherboard

The eMachines power supply (and possibly the motherboard) is bad. Just because you have a green light, doesn't mean that the power supply or motherboard is good. It takes many separate voltages to operate a computer. The geen LED means only that you have +5volts to the motherboard

Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.

The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.

Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.

The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

Hi

Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction?
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too?

However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again? does it helps?

By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

Greets all,

I have a customers Tecra in the shop, and after getting a good description of what was happening at the tme of failure, I still cannot seem to figure it out. She was watching a flash video when it froze. Upon reboot, it will not init the LCD, it does seem to at least partially POST, cd drive spins up, and all LCDs blink like normal. Still no LCD init, and the power light blinks green, no pattern, it is not a binary post led code. Fan spins up directly to full speed and stays there for the duration. I counted 20 one second blinks with fan at full speed, before powering down. Any ideas? Customer has no warranty, so would be nice to fix it for her. :-) Thank you, and have a great day.

Hi,

I've been working on a Satellite 2805-S201 and all was fine until I placed a PCMCIA Wireless with a 3.3V power rating.
After that, the AC power light will flash Amber 8 times and recycle.

This is with AC power, Battery power, AC and no battery installed, etc. If I pull the power plug and battery, and then put them both in, the AC light is green and the battery will charge. As soon as I Push the on/off button, I hear a faint click from the right side of the unit and then it goes into the amber power cycling.

The Support bulletins mentioned that the card could get damaged, but didn't mention the Unit itself.
No, the PCMCIA card is still not plugged in

Any Thoughts?

AC

Answer:Satellite 2805-S201: AC power light flashes amber 8 times

Hi

The blinking LED provides a micro code which refers to the hardware fault.
But please don?t ask me what this code could mean because in my opinion only an authorized service provider can read it and can check this in his manuals and documentations.
But one this is sure, in most cases it?s a motherboard hardware problem! ;(

Possibly the external PCMCIA card was not fully compatible and damages something on the board? but this is only my personal suggestion and to ensure what?s wrong a hardware fault diagnostic would be necessary.

Hi folks, having a problem here. I have the motherboard in the title and just yesterday after shutting down and replacing a fan, my computer will no longer turn on through the case power button. I thought it might be the case wiring that is shot, but I tried booting the system by doing the "screwdriver to the power pins" trick. I dont even get a reaction at all. I have taken all the parts off and put them back together, but still the same. So... did my motherboard randomly fry from just replacing a fan.. (maybe dust?) I'm not sure. I just need some assurance on if it is the motherboard so I can get a new one. I dont have any other computers at the moment to check the parts. Thanks guys, and please try to be swift.

I am working on a frends desktop that recently might have been hit by lightning. After a big storm their desktop would no longer power on. Now, I am no stranger to computers. I unplugged the motherboard main connector and I get a solid green light when I plug the psu in. Plug the main connector back in and plug the psu in I get blinking light again. So either its the PSU or mainboard. Im thinking psu since usually that is what goes first, but at the same time I am leaning towards mainboard. what do you all think? On another note, Are these boards proprietary? I have a few standard ATX PSUs I could test my theory with but not if I have to rewire them.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out if the power supply on my hp is bad or not. The green light on back of the tower is flashing and the computer won't turn on. I've tried all of the preliminary things and nothing works -- the green light keeps blinking until I disconnect the large plug to the motherboard, then the light stays on and doesn't blink. Once I have the power cord disconnected and the main plug to the motherboard disconnected as well, I then have tried replugging the power cord and then replugging the main plug to the motherboard (kind of trying to jump start it), the fan tries to come one (but only for a second, then goes back off, so it won't boot).Does anyone know if this means that the power supply is bad or if something else might be wrong? I'm wondering if the power supply would be bad when the computer is clearly trying to start, but not quite making it.

If the PSU blinks it needs to be reset.unplug the electrical cable from the wall and the PSU.move the red voltage selector to the opposite position it is in and then slide it back. If you live in the USA 120Vac-->220Vac-->120Vac see the image below.  After you have done this you can plug the power cable back into the PSU.  Connect the power cable to the wall power. If the PSU is still serviceable it will no longer be blinking. Best regards, erico Edited to fix the broken image link.

I have a T510 that is acting really strange. The laptop will do the following once shut down for any extended period of time. When I open it up and press the power button the power button, keyboard light , hdd light will all flash. 5 seconds or so will pass and then it will do the same thing, never actually booting up. I'll pull the power and batteries and repeat the process and the thing will do the same thing. Eventually it will boot if I repeat the steps enough. This just started happening recently. It will run fine once the system actually turns on. I have updated all drivers, I have updated the BIOS and all other software. I am highly doubting this is a windows issue as it never even POSTs. The flashing lights almost act like an error code but I couldn't find anything regarding 1 quick slow flash by the power button. Any suggestions?

Answer:T510 boot issues - power button flashes

Hi Kur1j,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with no POST on your ThinkPad T510.

I think this could be issue with system board, have you checked performing power drain?

If you have not performed, then please follow the steps, remove AC adapter and the battery from the system. Press and hold power button for 15 to 20 seconds and release. Perform this steps 2 to 3 times and after that connect only AC adapter and try switching ON the system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I own a Equium L20-197 and it is currently having a power problem. It is failing to turn on at all. When the plug is in the machine the orange power light comes on to show that there is a power supply yet when I hit the power on button the buttons just flash and nothing happens.

If I hit it again all the lights go out and the whole system fails.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
alan

Answer:Equium L20-197 fails to turn on at all - power button flashes and nothing happens

Hi

Did you set this notebook to standby mode or hibernation mode???

Reading this description it looks like the notebook was set into one of these modes and cannot wake up.
Try to remove the battery from the notebook and disconnect the AC adapter.
Wait several times (~ 20min) and connect the battery and AC adaptor again.
Then try to power up the notebook again.

If it will be not able to start the notebook I presume the power supply electronic on the motherboard malfunctions.
In this case the contacting of service technicians would be advisable.

Hi there,

I restarted my Dell Inspiron 3847 and I noticed that it would not boot. The power button initially went white but then turns yellow and flashes in groups of 6.
Can anyone tell me what this means please ?
I have removed all USB connections, all drives except the boot drive, took out and re-sat the RAM
Been Googling without success :-(
Many thanks

See the chart below. Are you connecting the external monitor to the onboard HDMI out port or the VGA out port? Or are you using an added video card?

I have a T450S that is a few months old. It has worked fine until just the other day when it would not turn on. When I push the power button, the green LED flashes three times. Then, the LEDs on the F1, F4, and Fn keys come on for several seconds and go off. Here's what I've tried:- Charging for an extended period.- Removing the battery for an extended period.- Removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds.- Pressing the button in the emergency reset hole. Nothing has made any difference. Any ideas?

Hi,
I have a Precision Tower 7910 desktop. Every time I try to restart (or power off and on), the power button starts flashing an orange colour. Following suggestions from previous posts, I took the CMOS battery, and held the power button for 15 seconds. When I insert the battery the computer works perfectly until the next restart where I have to repeat to same procedure. The computer works fine even if I leave it on for a month (assuming no restarts).
Can anyone suggest any solutions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Power button flashes orange every time I restart

Most of the Precision Tower documents state this =

What are the diagnostic LEDs during the restart failure?

I am having the exact same issue, but with an added wrinkle being that my PC is plugged into a tv into the hdmi/dvi input, but the tv isn't recognizing the PC. I've tried two other monitors as well, one being a tv and the other being a monitor. I was using the dvi to HDMI cable that I've been using for years now, and nothing has changed having to do with settings of either the pc or the monitors, but now I'm back to just using my pic monitor with a dvi to dvi cable connecting it to the pc tower.I tried the hard reset and everything that I've seen on other threads, but I need specific help with my case here. Now it's turning on for a few seconds, but then it's turning off again and just repeating the process. Any ideas please? :'(

I normally go to bed and leave my laptop running with a YouTube playlist playing for background noise to help me sleep. I've been doing this for about three years. I usually wake up the laptop in sleep mode or still playing the playlist but with the screen black. Today, though, I woke up to the laptop totally powered down and unresponsive. I checked the power cord and it was plugged in on both ends, but it acted like it was basically dead. Any push of the power button causes the button to turn on like normal, but it turns off after just a few seconds. Trying this several times, occasionally the keyboard lights will flash, too, but they die after just a second. The whole thing looks like it's booting up, but can't even turn the screen on at all. I'll link to a YouTube video showing the problem. A few months back, I was having harddrive problems from what I could tell, but fixed it. I haven't had any other problems other than that. Link: https://youtu.be/v3y7q2S0GS8 Could the battery have finally crapped out or something? I tried the whole battery removal and hold power button thing a few times with no results.

When the power button is pressed on the tower, it flashes it and the computer sounds like it about to start up when the button goes back off and doesn't start-up. Occasionally it works after end on end of pressing the button (sometimes up to 30 minutes) but crashes after 15-40 minutes. What can I do!!

I'm considering buying an all in one PC but I don't know if they're goof for playing games with high detail I.e Simulations. Any views?

Hi, my X240 laptop has suddenly stopped turning on. When I press the power button, the indicator light flashes green three times. I've switched out the AC adapter, same result. Can anyone tell me what the three flashes indicate? Is my motherboard fried or is it potentially something else I can troubleshoot? Thanks!

Hello everyone

This is my first post, as well as my first build attempt, so please be gentle.

P4 3.0 ghz
ASUS P4P800-VM
480w psu
1 stick MD4412UOE 512MB DDR-400 PC3200 Power Memory
Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics

I purchased all of my parts from newegg, and i finally found the proper time to put everything together. After getting a cpu fan that was too big, i purchased a AeroCool cpu fan. I had to remove the P4 retention module, and I now have the fan installed. I installed everything else (cd-rom, hdd, disk drive), and I turn the power on, to find that nothing is happening. I have taken the mobo out of the case to make sure it isnt grounded, and none of the fans power up. The only indication of power I get is the green stand-by light located between the second and third pci slots, and the keyboard lights flash on, then off. Whenever I turn the power switch on, the same thing happens with the keyboard and the rest of the mobo.
I have a buddy who is also putting together his own build, and he said that it was strange to hear that not even the psu fan is starting up. The psu has two power receptables, that I can best describe as female and male. Dont know if this makes any difference. I dont know what to do, and I was wondering if this sounds even remotely familiar to anyone. Am I missing something with some of the jumper settings, or does it sound like a huge problem?

Thanks again in advance for any help, and I'm glad I found my way to this ... Read more

Answer:No power to the psu fan..no bios...nothing but a green standby light on the mobo.

Have you plugged in the seperate 12V lead (4-pin) to the motherboard? It's used to supply the processor power.

I bought this a couple of years ago from a local computer store. It's been very reliable and I run Ubuntu 16.04 Linux on it. This afternoon I had a power drop of a second or so and since then when trying to boot the issue in the subject happens. I can get to boot as usual by pressing the power supply test button which gives me a green light on the power supply and then pressing the power button will let it boot normally. I don't have any version of Windows installed so it's not possible to run any diagnostic unless there are some Linux based ones.
Thanks for any help

Answer:Dell Optiplex 780 MiniTower, power light flashes amber diagnostic lights 1 & 3 flash

Blinking Amber power: Initial state of light at power up. Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active. If the Hard Drive light is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the Hard Drive light on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
1+3:  Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred.
You could try resetting BIOS to see if you can clear the error.

Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup
Copy down all current BIOS settings
Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reseat RAM modules in their slots
Reinstall battery- good time for new CR2032 coin cell, if this one is old
Close case and reboot

If that helps, go back into BIOS setup, and confirm that all settings match what you wrote down. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.

I can't seem to find anything about the acer error messages. The power button flashing once when I try to boot should mean something, but there does not seem to be a relevant help page. Is this a mobo issue? Any input would be appreciated.

My sister-in-law has an eMachine that she turned off and unplugged before leaving for vacation. A week later she returned and plugged it back in only to find it won't turn on. I don't know much about this pc other than it's a tower and about 3 or so years old. I figured it was probably the PSU (power supply) but wanted to verify as many things as possible. Basically, there is a green light on the back of the pc (on the PSU) that will flashes on and off when you try to turn on the computer. The PSU fan doesn't spin and nothing else makes any attempt to turn...just dead.

I pulled all the power connectors and jumpered the power switch pins (15-16), this gave me a solid green light on the PSU and the fan spun normally. I tested with a voltmeter and got the proper voltage on all the pins. I am thinking that this probably rules out the PSU but not 100% as something could be 'pulling it down'???

Any ideas on what else to look at? I hate to buy a PSU when it appears this one is ok. That pretty much leaves the MoBo and/or CPU. I've pulled all the cards and memory trying to get it to do anything and nothing affects it. I suspect there is something wrong with the MoBo but don't know how to verify that.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:eMachine power supply (PSU) green light flashing, won't turn on

What you need is a PSU Tester which you can get on eBay that will tell you if the power supply is bad.

Hi Guys,I have recently acquired a X220 hence after running both System Update & Windows Update to fetch all the latest updates available, I realised my Power button no longer works in turning my laptop to Hibernation mode. It works fine when I power on the laptop though. Just for your information:1. I have removed and reinstalled the Power Manager as after all the updates my Power Manager broke and I had to use this method to fix it. Unfortunately this did not fix my power button issue. 2. I have changed the "Power button" settings from existing "Hibernation" to "Do Nothing", saved and then changed back to "Hibernation" under Power Manager -> Global Power Settings unfortunately it did not fix the issue. 3. Apart from the Power Manager, I have also tried my luck with "Windows Power Option -> Choose what the power buttons do" by using the same step as (2) and it did not help me with that issue too. I appreciate if anyone can advise me on how to get this fixed as I'm used to turning my laptop into hibernation mode by pressing the Power button. Cheers.

Answer:X220 Power Button Not Working

hey ceewhy,

try uninstalling the power manager, restart your system and set the hibernation via the Windows Power Option.

see if that works.

do note that power manager is at version 3.62 (win7/Vista) and  1.99j (win xp)

My Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559 Laptop will not power on. The power light on the front of the laptop blinks 7 white lights ands 2 orange when I try to power the laptop on. I tried a different charger no help. I tried swapping the memory with my other 7559 latptop and no power up. Need help?

Answer:Inspiron 7559 Laptop has 7 white light flashes & 2 Orange Flashes

Remove or disconnect the battery.  With the system unplugged, hold the power button for 30 sec.
Try powering up on AC only - if it will but won't with the battery installed, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, the mainboard is bad.

Hi,

I am new to this excellent forum and wondered if anyone out there could possibly help......

I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop PC. Several weeks ago I had a slow flashing amber power light, indicating a PSU or switch fault. Firstly I replaced the switch - made no difference. Then I replaced the PSU - The slow flsahing amber light has now changed to a blinking (very fast) GREEN light on the power button.

All of my research so far has suggested that this suggests the PC is in standby mode! But the PC isn't even switched on - no fans running etc. In desperation I have even plugged a USB mouse in to see if I can "wake" it up! I have a amber AUX_PWR light on the Motherboard which is on.

Nothing happens when I press the power button - no matter for how long I press it in!

Has anyone got any ideas?

Many Thanks in advance
