Lenovo X230 gets too hot on Ultra Dock Series 3

Question: Lenovo X230 gets too hot on Ultra Dock Series 3

Hello fellows,I got a huge problem with my X230, after 5 Minutes on the dock it gets so hot that it starts lagging and running very unstable. I am not really happy the ultra dock was quite expensive and is not usable. I think the problem occurs because the dock completely covers the fan. What can I do to work on it again?X230 23252EG

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently purchased the Mini Dock Series 3... I have an X230-2306.  When the X230 is connected, none of the USBs on the dock are working.  The video port works fine but I need help getting the USB to work properly!  I recently ran Thinkvantage system update - and I believe I have all the proper drivers installed.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I recently purchased the Mini Dock series 3 (USB 2.0) version to hook up 2 monitors. However, when I plugged in my X230 to the docking station and connected my Samsung 906BW monitor via the DVI port, the monitor is not recognized. When I unplug the DVI cable, the monitor says "Signal not detected", which makes me think that the port appears to be working. However, I cannot get that monitor to work in the DVI port. Any help? Thanks.

Hi, May i ask if anyone of you experience this.  No boot will only happen if i restart my x230 dock on ultrabase.System will completely shutdown then upon restart it will only show  a blinking cursor.  No issue if system is completely off and turn it on even when docked. Things i have done so far to fix this is changing the boot order and updating the bios but  to no avail. Suggestions and help is appreciated. Best Regards,Provolski

At work, I have just been given an awesome new X230 with a Mini Dock Series 3 docking station. I installed Windows 8 Professional instead of the Windows 7 which was installed per default. I love it, and it is super fast, but I have one issue: when I put the X230 on the docking station and plug my earphones into the mini-jack of the docking station, I get no sound. It works fine under the following setups (in all cases, the laptop is docked): Headphones plugged into the laptop and audio device set to "headphones"Headphones unplugged and audio device set to speakerIn all other cases, I get no sound. I'd like to fix this so I can plug the headphones into the back of the docking station, rather than into the side of the laptop. Thanks in advance :-)

I am trying to use an Lenovo ThinkVision L1900p monitor with an ultra dock and a pro dock for a t440p and a t540p. no matter how i plug the monitor in, the computer will not detect it. The monitor goes into power save mode automatically. VGA, DVI, Display Port, nothing. if i plug the monitor directly into the computer using VGA, it works fine. it is only when i plug it into the docking station that it does not work. it worked fine on a previous docking station for a t430. it also works fine on all other types of monitors. I have it working fine with LG, Planar, and Dell monitors.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Network do not found when starting the laptop which is docked. You need to unplug network cable from docking station and put back...that normally helps.Without docking station the networks works well. Also sometimes keyboard and mouse stops working (those are connected to docking station.

Answer:T450S in Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra Dock, network missing at startup

I have a very similar Problem with some T440s and Ultra Dock.Although replugging the cable to the Dockingstation doens't work for me. The Notebook is running Windows 7 64 Bit Enterprise and is ( or should be ) plugged to a 1 gb LAN with Cisco Switches. Using the Networkinterface on the T440s works fine until i use the Dockingstation. The Problem seems to be the auto negotiation between the Dock and the Switchport. When autonegotiation is disabled in Windows ( setting to 1gb/s fullduplex didn't work though) and setting the Adapter to 100mb/s fullduplex, the connection is stable.  With autonegotiation activated Windows tells me there is no Ethernet Cable attached, so there is or seems to be no physical link.

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my ever annoying problem. I have a T450s running on Windows 10 64-Bit. Latest Intel Drivers. I have an 40A2 Lenovo Ultra Dock. The following configuration is coming out of the dock into the monitors. Channel 1 - DisplayPort (dock) to Mini-DVI (monitor 1)Channel 2 - using DVI (dock) to DisplayPort (monitor 2) Channel 2 is not outputting any video signal at all. Intel's software is not recognising another monitor at all. Their DisplayPort Topology is showing 1 DisplayPort (this could be because the other is not connected). I've tried both display ports and they both work on either channels. I will be bringing in a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable shortly to try, but shouldn't my DVI to DisplayPort. Something is amiss and it's driving me nuts. Thanks,Ron

Answer:T450S and Lenovo Ultra Dock 90W 40A2 - Problems with output of 2 displays

Hi Ron,

the first thing is, that the conversion from DVI to DisplayPort don't work. Only DisplayPort to DVI is possible.
Another point is, that you have to use the Ports for the two monitors like shown in the following guide:
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/options/tp_ultra_dock_sp40a02135.pdf

Hope this helps.

Hi, I installed the most recent firmware update (fwdphb07) and run into problems with my T450s: My displays (two attached via DP, the main display with DP 1.2) stay blank until the windows login screen shows up (no windows is starting screen). The problem is that I have a SSD password so the password dialog is not shown on the external screen. I downgraded the firmware to fwdphb06 (installed fwdphb03 before, because fwdphb06 does not allow for a direct downgrade) and everything works fine again. @Lenovo: can you please fix this issue - if you need more information please contact [email protected] users with the same issue: try to downgrade the FW Have a nice dayMichael

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T440s. It's partitioned with Ubuntu 14.04.1 lts and Windows 8.1. When I connect it to my ultra dock 135 w in Windows 8.1 the ThinkPad crashes with a blue screen. The error thrown is igdkmd64.sys and system_service_exception.This problem only occurs in Windows. I can boot Ubuntu without errors, but not Windows. Also if I boot to Windows without connecting to the dock, but then connect to the dock when I'm logged into Windows it also crashes immediately. I'm using two monitors, one with hdmi and another with dvi. I'v also tried with just the hdmi and the dvi. I have checked the forums and I've followed all the steps found in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440s-Ultra-Dock-2-external-monitors-causin...This has not solved the problem. Is there a solution to the problem I'm experiencing or does the ultra dock simply not work when you're dual booting Ubuntu and Windows?

So I currently have a Lenovo T430s Thinkpad and the Mini Dock Plus Series 3. The problem im having is that when the power cable is plugged into the dock and the laptop is mounted, my battery will not charge. Battery icon says "Plugged in, Charging" but i can see the battery percentage slowly draining. Usb ports, power button on the dock, secondary monitor and everything else seems to be working just fine. Laptop Charges just fine when "undocked". I initially thought it was a bad battery so i purchased a brand new genuine lenovo battery and still the same. Did an online search and cant find a solution to the problem. This all happened after I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64. Anyone know a solution? im all out of ideas.

My original Lenovo battery was old and I replaced it with CWK 7800 mAH 9 Cell Battery from Amazon. I thought it was working well. Charging and lasting quite a long time compared to my old battery. I?m using it right now on battery at a coffee shop. However, with the new battery I am having some issues with the dock. The battery is not anywhere close to depleted when I've tried this.   ? When I dock or undock, the computer immediately shuts down? I also tested this with leaving the computer in the dock and plugging / unplugging the dock. This also immediately shuts down the computer.? This only happens with the dock. If I directly plug or unplug the AC adaptor into the computer, this causes no problems.? I have tested the old Lenovo battery and the computer doesn't shut down when I dock/undock it.  So there shouldn't be an issue with the dock connector on my laptop or on the docking station. Has anybody ever had this sort of problem? The battery is still in its return period, so I may just send the battery back. I am still very confused by what could be causing this major problem.

My laptop isn't charging when I plug the adaptor in to the back of the dock.  When I'm on the dock with the adaptor plugged into the laptop, if  I hover over the green battery icon in the system tray, it tells me I should plug in the dock: "AC power is detached from your docking station.  For proper battery charging and docking station operation, connect the AC adaptor to the docking station." I'm not supposed to use two separate power adaptors, am I? (One for the dock and one for the laptop)?I think I might have a bad dock.

Answer:Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - Do I have to plug in both the dock and the laptop, or just the dock?

No, you only need to plug the dock in. When I remove the AC adaptor from my dock, the dock stops working completely -- display port shuts down and the green light next to the dock's power button turns off. Do you have a 90 watt adaptor plugged into the dock? It sounds like you have a bad dock or docking connector.

I have a T410 connected to an external monitor via a DVI cable through the DVI port on a Mini Dock Plus Series 3.  However; the Nvidia control panel is showing it is connected via DVI.  I believe this is causing the persistant blink I am experincing about every few minutes..  How can I make this detect that it is actually coming off of the DVI port instead of HDMI?

there is no HDMI port on the ThinkPad T410 or the Dock. The dock has DVI, Displayport and VGA.

I am having display problems inserting my w550s in and out of the Ultra Dock with dual connected monitors.  I have to reboot the PC when I insert or remove to get it to display correctly.  When I boot, it displays correctly in either mode. i.e. if I boot it up outside the dock, then the built in display looks correct, but when I insert it into the dock and it switches over to the dual monitors, The Icons and text are huge.  If I boot it up while inserted in the dock, then it displays correctly on the dual monitors, but when I remove it, icons and text are really small.  This requires me to perform a restart every time I insert or remove my w550s from the dock.  Not very useful. Any suggestions to resolve this issue?

There have been a few posts on Monitor issues - But I think I can shed some light... Hardware:Updated Ultra Dock Severial T440 and T440s (win 8.1)3 External Monitors (VGA, DVI, DisplayPort)1 USB monitor If I leave the unit for a bit, it goes to sleep / screen saver (even tho disabled in windows) - When I wake it, ONLY my USB monitor comes up.  If I don't have the USB monitor on, the issues looks like my machine has hung. Since I have USB I can load the monitor settings (Windows)  - and for each Monitor on the dock, in the pull down beside 'Multiple Displays:' I get 'disabled'.   If I flick each one back to extend, the monitors all come back on.  Now after being in the dock - when I go to power up standalone, the internal monitor turns off,  I need to Hard reset to get it back on (Hold Power button). I will test taking it out of dock and plugging in the USB monitor to see if that makes a difference.

Answer:T440 Ultra Dock - after being in dock - internal Monitor does not work - USB does - disabled

I pulled my unit out of the dock - powered up and the display goes blank (if you look carefully you can see the bios boot screen, then black, then you can see the backlight turn off. I plugged in the USB monitor and boom - I could log in. Once Logged in I could see that windows still thinks it has some of the monitors from the dock, and the internal display is set to disable. So the issue is the detection / setup of monitors in/out of the dock. I've done about all I can do for dubugging, I hope lenovo can pick up from here. if not I'll have to call lenovo support.

Known: With the Lenovo Mini Dock Series 3 USB 3.0 VGA, You have to use the VGA Port First Before Using DVI. Issue: 1) DVI Will not work after using the VGA Interface for a monitor.Question 1) Will this setup allow more than one external Monitor? If Not: Issue: 2) The VGA Port with a specifically with a 27 inch monitor has scaling line issues no matter the firmware for the intel graphics , cable used or monitor (have tried other brands and smaller sizes). Question 2) Is there a firmware fix for the dock or what should I try next? When opening applications the lines diagnoal running lines are somewhat apparent. Question 3) If the T420 only supports one external monitor no matter what dock is in use, should I switch to a different dock model to allow use of DVI without VGA? Thanks, Dustin    Edited to Reflect T420 model not T440

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad W520-4282. I want to use a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W) [pn 433830U] at work and a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video [0A33942] at home.I did not have to install any drivers for the Mini Dock and it worked just fine driving an external monitor. After installing the driver for the Port Replicator, I could no longer drive the external monitor when attached to the mini dock or the VGA+ video port on the ThinkPad.I played with a lot of things to fix the situation and nothing worked. I even uninstalled the driver for the Port Replicator and still could not drive an external monitor. In fact the laptop did not even recognize that an external monitor was attached.Later I found using the Device Manager that the NVIDIA Qadro 1000M display adapter was disabled, proabably during installation of the Port Replicator driver. Once I enabled that, I could drive an external monitor again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Will I be able to use the Port Replicator if I install the driver again?

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

Hi,   I have a W520 that I just reinstalled Windows 7 Enterprise Edition on (clean install). I have the W520 connected to a Series 3 dock and USB devices plugged into the dock are not recognized.   All devices show configured properly in Device Manager and I used System Update to download and install all drivers/utilities. Also, other ports (DVI to external monitor, audio) are working ok on the dock.   Bios settings don't show anything obvious to me that would affect this but the bios was updated when I ran the system update utility. The dock has the 170w power adapter attached and all USB ports on the notebook work properly.  I had been previously using this same setup successfully before.   Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks

I have question about dock for W520.  We have two different dock station:ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 and ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (which is more expensive)  ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 have enought port for me, but I am not sure this dock also compatybile with W520? Actually this dock has AC Adapter just 135W or 90W (not 170W like should be for W520), but I can buy only ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 (without AC Adapter) for good price and use AC Adapter 170W which I also use with laptop. Actually I do not need two AC Adapters. I found all information about ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 but no asnwer about ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 (if I will use this dock with 170W AC Adapter).  Thank You, Best Regards

Answer:W520 Mini Dock Series 3 vs Mini Dock Plus Series 3

Hello Winson: Historically, IBM/Lenovo have produced two varieties of 'docks' for their business line of computers.  One is basically just a port replicator, the other is a more serious dock. The port replicator is usually exactly what the name implies - it just replicates the various connectors on the laptop itself, and its primary value is to speed up the process of unplugging from all the stuff you have connected to the laptop at your 'home base' desk. The 'dock' is a more comprehensive device, it replicates all of the ports that are present on the laptop itself and also provides additional connectors that are not present on the laptop, such as a DVI out connector and stuff like that.I ordered a W520 last week, and ordered the larger, more robust "433830U ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W)" to go with the laptop.  This is because I use a large external monitor with the computer when at home, and I want the additional connectors that the full docking station contains. I wish I could give you more information about the smaller port replicator, but I am not familiar with it.  Personally, I suggest you get the larger of the two (the "Dock Plus") if you have any doubt... in other words, don't buy the port replicator unless you are certain that it will meet your needs.  It is a significant convenience to have the additional AC adaptor that comes with the larger dock - you can leave it plugged in at home base all the time, you don't ha... Hello,I have a W541 Core i7 and have been using it in an Ultra Dock while at home.  An unfortunate defect of these two together in design is that the left side of the dock where the power and eject buttons are, BLOCK a few of the exhaust ports on the laptop to vent heat.  The net result is that under load it gets hot. I ran HWMONITOR on it and at about 90% sustained load while running a Virus Scan, the system was operating at a package temperature of around 96 degrees centigrade!  Each core was running from about 92 - 97 degrees! The only thing I was able to do in the short term to eleviate this before long term melt down was to use the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to undervolt by adjusting the voltage offsets from 0 down to -40mW for Cores and -30mW for cache.  This dropped the temps down to about 85 degrees and the fans slowed slightly. While I know undervolting is safe to a point, I have a ESXi whitebox undervolted for power/energy, I am not sure the affect on the laptop or if these are good longer-term values, especially since it is a company laptop. I know there are cooling pads out there, but not sure if I can use them with the dock as that is the point, when the laptop is out of the dock it can vent properly and temperatures are a little better. Has anyone ever run into this before with this combination and if so, how have you combatted the heat problem? Thanks,Nathan

Answer:W541 and Ultra Dock gets HOT

I use a similar machine (W540, quad I7) and ran a non-scientific test, after I noticed that vents were blocked by the dock.  I ran the Intel burn test, trying to measure the difference.  I ran 5 minutes while docked, let it cool, and ran 5 minutes non-docked.  Docked ran about 2C hotter.

I have a few thousand Ultra Dock scattered across NA. We are in the process of replacing all monitors attached to these docking stations. Before we can send someone to replace the monitors, which maybe VGA, DVI, HDMI or DP, I need to determine how each monitor is connected to the computer. This is so that I can ensure that the correct cables and monitors are sent to each location. This last piece I already have done using a 3rd party software, they use details collected from Windows to detect the monitor connection type and it works perfectly on all computers and docking stations.  However, what we have noticed is that on the Ultra Dock no matter what monitor connection type (VGA, DVI, HDMI, or DP) is used, the Ultra Dock always shows that they are connected via DP. My questions are:Is this a known issue with Ultra Dock's?Is there a way to have the Ultra Dock show the true monitor connection type? If so how can this be done?

Question: x250 + Ultra Dock

Hello, my new x250 Laptop is totally unstable in the matching Dock (170 W version). The right side is so shaky, that normal typing / working is impossible. Any experiences / ideas to solve that problem? BR,Tom

Answer:x250 + Ultra Dock

Have you updated the firmware?http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht081248 I have the same setup as you and only have that issue when I first bootup. It stabilizes within a minute of bootup. Are you connecting to your monitors via displayport or dvi?

If I want to connect two HD displays to the x230, do I have to spend 230$ on getting the dock, or is there a smarter solution?I have tried to find some kind of minidisplay-splitter but failed to find any which seems to be reliable/tried/available for purchase.Using the VGA output on my HD screens results in blurry image quality on varying places.I've considerd "daisy chaining", but as I've understood it, only certain screens support this and I'm fairly sure that my screens don't.Since I have no use for the dock other than getting more display ports, it feels very silly to have to pay 230$ for something that will work as a simple display splitter.

Answer:Can I connect two HD displays to x230 without dock?

Hello,

Maybe a device like the Targus USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Adapter or StarTech USB 3.0 to HDMI an DVI Dual Monitor External Video Card Adapter would work?

Is there a docking station that works with the T410s AND the T450s? I am thinking about getting this one: Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra Dock 170W (40A20170EU) which definitely works with the T450s - but how about the T410s. Is there downward compatibility or has the interface been changed over the years?

Answer:Ultra Dock - for T410s and T450s

The newer docks are not downward compatible (except for the USB docks). A handy reference tool to determine compatibility is the Lenovo Options Compatibility Matrix which you can find at: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/um006391 If you need a discontinued Lenovo dock for your T410s, there is a program called Lenovo Options Continuation Program which makes available discontinued Lenovo docks and other Lenovo Options. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht037291

Hi, I have a T470 Thinkpad running Windows 10 in a brand new Ultra Dock with two monitors plugged in by display port: a Asus PG278Q and an AOC i2352Vh.The AOC works fine, but the Asus monitors mostly sits at "no signal" with intermittent flashes of the display working.I found some old threads detailing a similar issue, but the fix seems to be to update the dock firmware, but mine already appears to be up to date (2.33.000). The Asus monitor works fine using the same cable in my desktop PC, and I've tried swopping the monitors around in the display port ports on the dock itself. Could anyone please assist me in getting my second monitor working?

I have a T450s with Win 10 Pro and an Ultra Dock.  When connected to the dock, the computer goes to sleep after a few minutes no matter what settings I have in Windows.  I have verified this does not happen when the computer is disconnected from the dock.  I have updated the dock firmware to version 5041.  I have one monitor connected via DP and a set of USB speakers plugged into the dock. This is a very annoying problem.  Any ideas for a solution would be much appreciated.

so - I tried saving money on a 2nd ultra dock for my W540 (I have 2 offices I travel between with desks setup..) And I bought something off ebay for an OK price.. Despite the dock and power supply being described in the auction body as the 170W version, when it showed up it's actually the 90W version... Now the dock and power supply came halfway across the world from Israel, so I'm preferring not to have to waste my time and money sending it back. The vendor has offered me $20 refund to keep it and use it as-is, which I think is pretty unfair seeing it's their mistake, and it'll cost more than that to make it good I think.... On the flipside, if I send this back at my cost it'll be $30-$40 to send.... and what if it goes missing on the way back? I was hoping that even though the part numbers on the actual docks are slightly different (my old one = SD20A06041, this new one = SD20A06046) they look pretty much identical, and  I can still at least use this new dock at 2nd office , and continue to lug my power supply between offices. Am I right here? Would prefer to ask rather than try as trying involves opening the plastic on the dock, which is factory sealed right now... also would hate to damage it..Then, Ideally I need to sort out a 2nd PSU as one of the main points of having 2 docks was going to be I didnt have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting and lugging that huge brick from office to office!  I'm wondering wh... Answer:W540 with 90W ultra dock (and the 540's 170W PSU)

hmmm... looks like buying the cheap 170W adapter and frankensteining the 90W rectangular cable onto it could be problematic?? these square connectors have ID resistors in them and I'd have to hack open the overmould to fix this? Looks like there's a nice cheap 3rd party adapter on ebay for connecting an old round power supply into a new rectangular laptop, but these adapters also need hacking open to change an ID resistor?

I have a W540 with 2 ultra docks. The audio jack on the dock does not appear to work for either of them. Does something have te be done or toggled to get them working? When I plug my speakers into the dock port when it is off, I do get the 'floating ground' buzzing (this in itself is quite annoying). When I turn on my W540 the floating ground goes away but I don't get any sound. Plugging this same plug into the audio jack on my W540 works fine.

Hello All, Does anyone have a w550s with an Ultra Dock?  Is it working for you?  The reason I ask is because I am having a display problem using the ultra dock.  I have dual monitors connected to my Ultra Dock and I receive a problem when I insert (dock) or undock my w550s.  This issue is scale.  If I boot my w550s outside of the dock, the notebook screen display is perfect.  Then I insert into the dock, the dual monitors take over.  However the screen display is a wonky scale.  It is the correct resolution for the monitor, however the Icons and Text are huge. However, vise versa: Boot the w550s in the dock.  The monitors display perfectly.  Then I remove it from the dock.  The notebook screen takes over, and the icons and text really really small.  When I reboot, everything is perfect again.  This basically means I have to reboot to transition in or out of the dock.  Not that handy. I have contacted technical support.  All they did was guide me through updating all software i.e. windows update, lenovo solution center updates, bios update.  I still have the problem.  They want to replace the system board, but I don't believe this is a hardware issue.  If it was, It would never display properly.  I have the gut feeling that this problem happens to everyone with a w550s and ultra dock with monitor.  Soooo, I'm asking, does anyone have a w550s + ultra dock and have ... I am wondering if the Ultra Dock really does not support any older laptops at all. I have a T530 with Optimus graphics. I have had a Mini Series 3 (pre-USB 3.0) dock for about 2 years and am looking to a get a dock for another desk I frequently use. Lenovo no longer directly sells the Mini Series 3 ones anymore. I still have 2 years of warranty but Lenovo won't sell a dock for it? This is why I think the Ultra Dock may support older laptops. Additionally some sites say the new ones are the replacements for the old ones and Lenovo themselves talks about how they are smaller than the Mini Series 3 (but if they were they only option for your model, then why does that matter?).So I would like to hear someone who has tried or at least physically has T530 or similar to compare to a new-series one to see if the docking connector is different. It would be great for a Lenovo person to also be able to answer this directly (and not seem like they are just reading the fact sheet, which I can do).Thanks.

I would like my screen on the T440 to be visible on an external screen (Philips TV) using the HDMI connection from the dock. I have read the other contributions containing the upgrad to firmware 2.30, but the solution is not stable.Occasionally, using this sequence would give a result, but seldom:1. Apply power to TV set, but do not turn it on2. Apply power to the Ultra dock3. Place the T440 in the dock and turn it on (usually from sleep)4. Turn on the TVBut on most occasions, both screens turn black, and it is not possible to get any picture on either PC or TV (which just states "no signal")When it works, both picture and sound comes over fine (in control panel, the TV sound function has to be set active)Connecting the TV directly from the T440 using a dvi-hdmi converter cable works flawlessly. What do I do wrong?

Hi, I have an T540P connected to a Ultra DOck 40A2 station which in turn connects to two monitors via ViewPort cables. My problem is that when I press the sleep button the monitors turn off but the workstation does not go to sleep mode. Once I press the enter key on the keyboard the login screen comes right away, then I have to click "change user" and then, without logging in, I press the sleep once again, only then will the workstation go tot he sleep mode! This is driving me nuts as I have tried updating the Viewport hum firmware, have set all possibel power settings, have downloaded the Lonovo Power Manager, but to no avail. My workstation is just stubborn and will only sleep after the second attempt, as described above. Any help would be appreciated! Cheers, Nermin

I just connected my new T440s to my new Ultra Dock. I an have external monitor connection and a live AC charging function. However, none of my USB ports are live. Nothing I plug into the Dock's USB ports works (everything plugged directly into the laptop works fine). After an hour with a Lenovo Tech, I was told, "send it back. We'll send you a new Dock". I am in the process of do that. But-has anyone experienced this; and know the cause of it (i.e.; is the laptop docking connection bad)?

Answer:T440s and Ultra Dock (USB connections)

Hi Charnjohn,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that none of the USB ports in your docking station is working fine.

I would suggest you to Open Device Manager. Scroll down to the bottom of the Device Manager Window, and click on ?Universal Serial Bus Controllers? to expand it. Uninstall the devices listed there, and reboot the system. This will refresh the USB drivers. Now check if the USB ports in the docking station works. Try updating the BIOS and power management driver to the latest version.

If the above said didn?t help, it probably indicates some fault in the docking station and I would recommend you to get it replaced.

Best regards,
Mithun.

It has intel HD 4000 and i7-3xxx-series processor. I also got dock (usb3 support).  I foud a few topics saying that x230 would support 3 monitors, but how? I have 3x fullHD monitors, 2 of them is connected with DVI to the dock and one with VGA to dock. Windows screen settings allows me to enable 3 monitos, but the 3rd wont "wake up" and after reopenin windows screen manager it says that 3rd monitor is "disconnected". Intel's own tool only gives option for 2 monitors. So is it possible to enable 3rd monitor?

I have the 433615W docking station. About once a day on average my X230 crashes instantly with no warning, like sudden complete power loss, no blue screen. this has been going on for 6 months. It only happens when the machine is docked. If I don't use the dock the crashes stop. I notice that the design of the dock obscures the vents which could cause overheating but the machine does not appear to be hot when it crashes. Anybody else experience this?

I just received a Dell UP2516D 3K display which works great when directly connected to the mDP port of the laptop. When connecting the same screen to the DP port on the dock, the screen detects the cable connection, but never receives any signal. I'm using the mDP to DP cable which Dell shipped with the screen. I was able to detect the firmware version of the dock using the 1.0 firmware updater. It has version 2.24.00 installed. My laptop has the latest Intel Graphics drivers installed (20.19.15.4331) from Lenovo, the latest driver for the Onelink Pro dock (1.08.36). I first thought the issue was with the cable, but connecting the screen and the dock with a high quality 1.2 DP cable doesn't change anything. The screen works fine when connected directly to the laptop and it too has the latest firmware installed. Defective dock? I may try it with a diffrent screen on next week by taking the device to work, but I was hoping it would "just work". Any thoughts?

Answer:Lenovo X1 (20BS) and Onelink Pro dock can't connect to Dell UP2516d 3K screen using dock's DP

In the device manager, check if you have a yellow warning triangle for the graphics card ? Mine works kind of the same way ? connected to the PC the signal is OK, using the Pro dock ? no picture. My problem is the Driver for the Intel HD Graphics card. When autoupdate and I get the latest driver ? no signal, I then manually have to install an earlier driver and I am ok until autoupdate again

Hello, I purchased a T440s soon after they were released, its running the I7 processor and a 10-point multitouch display. Upon startup the built in display is perfectly normal, it looks great. However, when I dock it on my ultra dock, both of the external displays just don't look right. The desktop icons are huge and the taskbar buttons become quite small. These displays are using the VGA and DVI ports. Here's the twist: when I boot while connected to the dock, both of the external displays look great, the icons go back to normal size and the taskbar buttons become more square shaped like they typically are. Then when I put the machine to sleep and undock it, the built in display's resolution is now off. The taskbar becomes incredibly small and several other things are distorted. My question is this; Would there be any way for me to set up my machine so that the display settings change depending on whether I'm using the dock or the built in display without having to re-boot the machine. Thanks, -Mark H.

I have a T440s laptop running Windows 8.1, an Ultra dock and a high resolution (2560x1440) external monitor (connected to the dock with a DisplayPort cable). Drivers and firmware should be up to date, as far as I know. Issue 1:When I leave my laptop alone for a while, it will try to turn off the display. What actually happens is that the monitor turns on and off every 5 seconds or so. Annoying. Also, it seems like the laptop turns up the fan speed in this state. Issue 2:At random times, the monitor will turn blank for a few seconds. Very annoying. Issue 3:Once, the monitor was left blank for an entire evening. Restarting the laptop or undocking and docking it again did not help. I tried to connect the monitor via HDMI and VGA. That worked, but then I could not use the highest resolution. The next day, the external monitor magically worked via DisplayPort again. Issue 4:Sometimes, the laptop won't start when it is is docked. It can show the Lenovo logo and the spinning "wheel" for several minutes without any further progress. One solution is to hold the power button to force the power off, then undock the laptop, then power it on. Issue 5:Sometimes, I find that when I dock the laptop and start Windows after having docked the laptop, the OS crashes and reboots.

I am thinking about buying W541 as my new computer, but is a bit concerned it won't work properly with the planned setup with multiple monitors. Lenovo thinkpad W541 with ultradock (90W or 170W) and three 27'' monitors connected to the ultradock(Eizo 27", 2560*1440) The Nvidia K1100 should have no problems with this resolution (Specs says it can support 4 monitors up to 3840x2160)Any other reason this is not a good idea? 2. Lenovo thinkpad W541 with ultradock (90W or 170W) with four monitors (2 Eizo 27'', 2560*1440 and 2 Eizo 24'' 1920*1200)Will using monitors with different resolution cause any additional problems? Will I be able to utilize the resolution fully on all screens? Also, what ports should i use to connect the monitors to the ultradock, and is daisy chaining the monitors from one of the ultradocks' display ports a good idea?

The laptop LCD works correctly (2880x1620), the 30" LCD works correctly with the display port to DVI active adapter (2560x1600), and one of the 24" LCDs works correctly (1920x1200). Answer:Ultra dock + three external monitors not working

I'm struggling with a very similar problem. (Thinkpad W540, K2100, Ultradock 170W) I am using 2 external monitors right now in bios display standard mode - it's the only way they work at all for me right now. I have tried uninstalling graphics drivers, enabling advanced mode, and restarting, but none of the external displays are detected. I've also tried updating the dock's firmware, but it doesn't seem to be updating (this may have already been updated). Current working setup:- 2 x 22" external LCDs connected to Ultradock via DP -> DVI cables- Laptop integrated LCD Related but not quite as equally frustrating, the integrated LCD does not resume when waking the computer from a sleep state. Only a reboot brings the display back. I'd like to connect another 24" display over HDMI, but don't have any confidence of it working since advanced mode is utterly worthless for me at the moment. I'm quite dissatisfied especially since I purchased an extended warranty and last time I called for support Lenovo tried to sell me an additional support plan claiming that software was not covered under my current warranty.

Hi! I work at IT helpdesk/support, and recently we ordered new monitors to use with the Lenovo Pro Dock or Ultra Dock and ThinkPad T400-series notebooks. The issue we discovered is that none of the new dockingstations will work together with the new monitors. It works if the monitors are connected directly to the laptop, without docking. It also works on the older dockingstations used for T430 and older. Of course, I have tried all the basic troubleshooting like reconnecting the power cord and replacing DisplayPort-cables, installing the driver for the monitor and so on. Anyone else experienced this? Any help is appreciated!

I'm having a few issues with a t440s + 135w Ultra Dock. I've updated the dock's firmware and it works fine with my two external monitors. I have one problem that is driving me crazy. When I put the machine to sleep I can't wake it up with my mouse or keyboard. If I plug the mouse and keyboard directly into the machine they will wake it correctly but in the dock, it's no go. The other problem is once I actually bring the machine back from sleep it has to re-initialize all of the usb devices on the dock, like they've been completely unplugged. This second problem wastes a lot of time, right now I have the wireless usb mouse plugged directly into the machine so I can wake up with the mouse but my usb keyboard takes about 10 seconds to re-initialize, so I am stuck waiting at the lock screen for that long. I've turned on the USB when sleeping and the charge USB while sleeping in the BIOS - didn't help. Also made sure that all the devices could wake the machine up in the Device Manager. One other "issue" that is only mildy annoying is anytime Windows shows my a UAC prompt the screen goes black and takes about 5 seconds to render but only on the monitors attached to the dock. I'm running windows 7 pro 64 if that helps at all.

I have a problem with external spekers when they are connected to the ultra dock. When the laptop is on, everything is fine. As soon as I turn it off, the speakers start to hum. Loudly.This happens even if I remove the laptop and power supply, and just connect them to the dock, but then it's not that loud. It's the loudest when the dock is connected to power and withlaptop (off) in it. I tried different speakers, I even tried connecting them through a ground loop isolator. This makes the humming not as loud, but still there.I didn't have this problem with the dock for T410 that I had before. I called support and they sent a replacement dock, but it behaves the same way. What should I do?Because at this point (given issues in Linux with the external displays connected to the dock)I basically have an extremely overpriced USB hub :/

It took me some weeks to realize that the implementation of Nvidia is different from my W520 which was able to drive 3840*[email protected] natively through the built-in DP as well as the Dock's DP.  With the W540, I only get full Nvidia support (full means switching off Intel HD) when the W540 is connected to the dock. Before I buy a new dock (40A20135EU or 40A20170EU), I need to know whether the 4K resolution is working in this combination with my W540 with Nvidia Quattro 1100M. With my w520 and ultra dock, the tech spec only mentioned resolutions up to 2560*1600 but 4K worked anyway at 30Hz with acceptable quality. Of course, I prefer to get 60Hz but with my Samsung 40' UHD and it's HDMi 2.0 interface I'm afraid that I will be stucked at 30Hz as there is no cable supportiing 60Hz with DP 1.2 output to an HDMI 2.0 input. So; is anyone out there running the Ultra dock with W540 and 4K resolution successfully ?Furthermore, like many others here in the forum, I experience the display switching off for some seconds randomly. I learned that running a 135W power supply could myke a difference, so I'm wondering wether buying the 0A20135EU 135W version is the better choice for my W540. I presume that the charging time will go up but are there other differences compared to the 170W version dock ?

Answer:W540, Ultra Dock and 3840*2160

I'm using a 4k screen in MST mode with the W540 and the ultra dock (170W power supply):When using the dock in "normal mode" (= connected to the Intel chipset) the screen works - sort of. It will turn on and off quite a few times after plugging it in(Win 8.1) and then work for a few hours - at that point it switches off(you'll get some artifacts on screen warning you before it goes blank), which requires power-cycling screen and dock to get things working again. If I set it to "advanced mode"(= connected to the NVidia chipset) the screen is detected but stays blank, presumably because the NVidia card doesn't like the "on-off" period. No 10-bit for me If I plug the screen into the Thunderbolt port it works without any issues. If anybody got things to work in "advanced mode", I would be interested as well...

Hello, I am trying to achieve 4K 60Hz output with the folowing setup: - X250 (Windows 7 Pro, BIOS: N10ET38W (1.17 ), latest video drivers etc,)- Thinkpad Ultra Dock 90W (40A20090XX) - Latest formware: 2.29.000 from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd014572- Monitor: BenQ BL3201PH (32" [email protected]) When X250 is connected directly from laptop mDP into monitor DP I get 4K @60Hz + laptop native 1920x1080. However, when X250 is docked to Thinkpad Ultra Dock and dock DP is connected to monitor DP or mDP the monitor screen is black at 4K resolution. I can force monitor into 2560x1440 resolution via Intel Graphics menu but monitor goes into black sreen every 10 seconds and tells me via on-screen message it requires 4K signal... Anyone from Lenovo has any comment? Is this issue going to be resolved any time soon? The whole point of buying X250 + Ultra Dock was getting 4K resoluton for dev work on external monitor when docked. BenQ monitor works as expected when directly connected to X250 or any other machine capable of [email protected] Only Ultra Dock DP connection fails to produce 4K. Thank you.

Answer:X250: Ultra Dock 90W: BenQ BL3201PH: no 4k via DP

Bumping up. Anyone had experience with 4K via DP on Thinkpad Ultra Dock 90W (40A20090XX)? Anyone at Lenovo cares to comment? Thank you.

I am running 2 monitors (Dell U2414H @ 1920 x 1080 60Hz) on my ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ultra Dock.  I also have my Yoga 900 monitor on and the desktop is extended to all monitors.  I have a regular issue where the Displayport monitor turns off for 1-3 seconds then comes back on for no apparent reason.  I have searched the internet and the only similar issue I have found suggestes the dock is under powered to run 2 monitors however that does not seem consistent with what other people are doing.  There is no particular application that causes the issue. Can anyone help?  It's very frustrating waiting for the monitors to come back on.

My ThinkPad W541 in combination with the ThinkPad Ultra Dock is unable to detect my external microphone as I plug it into the headphone/microphone combination slot. According to the available specifications on the website, the dock should indeed include a combination slot for either headphone output or microphone input. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case. Although the output works, my external microphone is not detected. It does not show up under Recording devices and instead only lists Microphone Array, the laptop?s internal microphone. One of the threads that I was able to locate suggests reinstalling the audio drivers (Realtek in this case) while connected to the dock. This does not resolve the problem. Using the built-in microphone is not an option due to it capturing all of the surrounding noise (including its own noise), except the actual speech, and this for a ?high-end portable workstation?. Please tell me that I am at least able to use an external microphone (without involving another external device)? I find myself searching for many workarounds instead of actual solutions to many of the problems with this laptop, which is very unfortunate.

Answer:External microphone with ThinkPad Ultra Dock

Did you directly connect your microphone to the 3.5mm combo jack or did you use a suitable adapter? As far as I know, both the combo jack of the W541 and the Ultra Dock have the following pinout:Tip - Left AudioRing 1 - Right AudioRing 2 - GroundSleeve - Microphone

I have just rolled out 3 x ThinkPad T440s laptops with Ultra Docks running 2 x 24" monitors via DisplayPort connected to them.  These are the first 40-series ThinkPads I have implemented, and these are also our first systems running Windows 8/8.1; everything else runs Windows 7.  We run Windows Enterprise, so the laptops have a clean image installed by me. THE ISSUE:The laptops work great on their own.  The experience with the Ultra Docks is far from perfect right now though.  On all three PCs, shutting down or restarting the PC while docked causes the computer to either hang at a black screen or get stuck when the Lenovo logo: the little circle balls to indicate Windows is loading never come up.  The only fix for this is to hold down power to shut off the laptop, and then undock and redock the laptop.  It is ridiculous a computer cannot restart successfully on the dock.  I assume firmware can fix this? I also have an issue with our existing Bluetooth keyboards and mice not being recognized all the time on startup - most of the time we have to manually reconnect them on boot.  However, at this point I think that is a Windows 8.1 or Logitech problem. Other than that, quite happy with the ThinkPad T440s (and Windows 8.1).

Answer:ThinkPad T440s + Ultra Dock problems

FURTHER ISSUE:I think others have reported similar issues to this with the new docks and 40-series ThinkPads... We use Dell UltraSharp U2412M monitors which are 1920x1200 resolution.  All the monitors are connected by DisplayPort and are detected as being Dell monitors by Windows. One of the ThinkPad T440s' went to sleep on the dock while the user was at lunch.  The user returned from lunch and woke it up.  One of the monitors was detected as a "Generic Plug and Play" monitor and was set to 800x600 resolution.  It was not possible to set the resolution back to 1920x1200, but a restart fixed the issue. A POSSIBLE FURTHER ISSUE:This same laptop successfully restarted on the dock.  But upon logging into Windows 8.1 Enterprise, the local network shares failed to load, suggesting a network connectivity issue.  Not sure if this is dock-related or not, or if it is just a Windows 8.1 Enterprise issue.

I'm considering to upgrade my workstation. It would be a T470p w/a 2560x1600 display, 940mx and 4G support. The screen is a Dell Ultrasharp U2718Q. Do anyone know if it supports HDR through the Ultra Dock?

My W541 cannot deliver enough current to almost any USB device when placed in a Ultra Dock, but the same USB device work fine if I connect to the W541 directly. For example my Polar V800 cannot connect to any USB port on docking, but directly on the PC it's fine. I cannot believe the V800 is pulling so much current ??? I have tried all ports, USB 3 and USB 2, including the yellow USB 2.0 port. Actually only the mouse can be driven with the Ultra dock, also my Canon Scanner refuses to work on Docking. The message is always a Windows message claiming to much current pulled. The docking, is it really so 'weak' ? /bwa

Answer:W541 Ultra Dock Cannot deliver enough power

bwa67, Are you using the version of the Ultra Dock with the 170 watt AC adapter?  This should be part number 40A20170WW (or maybe a different last 2 characters in Norway).  There is also a version of the Ultra Dock with 135 watt and 90 watt AC adapter but you should use the 170 watt version with a ThinkPad W541. good luck!

Dear Lenovo Support, several months ago I bought a X240 with an Ultra Dock (40A20090EU). Sometimes I use it to watch a movie on my TV. Then I dock it in and connect it via HDMI to an AVR and thus to a TV. The problem:  The sound output just stops for a second, complete silence. It can happen every 5 minutes, it can happen every 30 minutes. I couldn't recognize any patterns. I tried different HDMI cables, but the problem remained. While watching a movie or listening to music this can be very, very annoying. I already updated the docking station firmware, to no avail. Thank you for your help.

Hi all,I recently bought an ultra dock for my t460p in person from a previous owner. It's basically like new. According to him, he had bought it for his thinkpad but switched to Mac pretty soon afterward, rendering the ultra dock useless. It's been two days and I'm pretty pleased with the dock. It does what it was advertised to do. But there's one thing that really bothers me. It's extremely sensitive!Sometimes, just moving the laptop lid or evne pushing down on the laptop a bit will cause it to disconnect from the dock, or disconnect suddenly and reconnect. I think it's physically being detached, but I thought the ultra docks were a lot hardier than this? Is it really supposed to be this finicky? This happens if I lock the dock with my keys as well. Did I get ripped off with a defective device?

I have a 40A20170US Ultra Dock 170W and the P50 Adapter plate, I finally got around to setting it up and it all works after the firmware update to latest firmware except for the NIC, It will only negotiate at 100Mbps vs the 1Gbps my network is. I did not get the workstation Dock as I do not need that many usb 3.0 ports and at the time of purchase it was supposedly supported (I mean they sell an adapter plate for it). IT negoiates the 1Gbps on the internal nic fine when undock and same cable is used for the dock, have latest nic driver off the driver matrix aswell. EDIT: forgot OS info: 10 Pro x64 Hope this can be resolved, I saw similar issues people had with w500's Malcolm

I own a Y510p SLI (retired), Yoga 2 Pro, and a P50 4K.

Hi, I just bought an Ultra Dock for my X240 Thinkpad. My external monitor has a built-in speaker system and can be interfaced via HDMI. I have a micro-Displayport to HDMI cable that DOES transmit the audio and works well. But when I use any of the HDMI connectors of the Ultra Dock, it does recognize the external monitor and video works well. But I could not get it to stream audio to the monitor as well. Sure, I could just use the micro-Displayport cable but then all the convenience of a docking station is gone. I do have a HDMI cable capable of transmitting video, audio and ethernet. I also tried with a Displayport cable (not micro, using the normal Displayport adapter on the Ultra Dock) but no joy. It seems just silly to me that I have to plug in an external video cable to also transmit the sound if I have a docking station. Could you please help me with this issue? Thanks,Phil

Answer:X240 + Ultra dock = no sound via HDMI - Please help

Hi Philipmoll,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Is the audio port on your docking station working?
Did you check with updating Intel Graphic driver from Lenovo support site?
Check with running ThinkVantage system update tool, this will update all the required drivers and application for your system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hello, is it possible to update the Lenovo Ultra Dock Pro to the latest version without a Windows Operating System? https://support.lenovo.com/de/en/documents/ht081248 A bootable ISO for this would be perfect. I use Linux as Operating System installed on a T440p, so a Windows based update is not possible for me. Thanks in advance! Best regrads, Michael

I have the intel graphics...4600 and also nvidia k1100m..... I'm trying to find out from folks with Windows 7 64 bit which drivers and bios settings you are using.  I'm trying to get the ultra dock to work with 3 monitors and having a horrible time.  I tried calling support and they had no idea how to help me.  I can't even get the dock firmware upgrades to run so I have no idea what version I'm even on..... If anyone can share their setup and which monitor connections they used I would appreciate it.  I assume 2 display ports and 1 vga or dvi is the way to go from diagram....Currently only the intel card is working....I assume I can get both working depending on bios setting and drivers....Thanks a lot!  BTW I can't get any monitor work on display port cable....

Answer:W540 Intel and Nvidia Drivers and Ultra dock

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd029622This says you can use either the two DisplayPorts or the two VGA ports.Try setting the BIOS to Advanced mode and see if it helps?

Hello everyone, that's my question:I put the notebook on the docking stationg (lid shut). I push the docking's power button and the notebook turns on (obviously everything's working fine). The only thing is that the led of the docking is totally off, while I guess it should be green as the notebook power button is.Is the power button supposed to be green or this is the normal behaviour? The notebook firmware is the latest one (BIOS LENOVO N1KET19W (1.06 ), 10/03/2016).ThanksGiovanni

Aside from the blanking issue I can not get the audio to work properly through either the hdmi or dp port of the ultra dock. The audio through the mini display port works fine. Has anyone had any luck with the audio thru the ultra dock's hdmi or dp ports? If so what is the secret mojo? I am running the latest Intel and realtek drivers yadda yadda yadda.

Answer:T440s - Ultra Dock - No audio thru the hdmi and dp ports

Try this: After connecting the HDMI cable to the TV or other device, open the sound app in the control panel and change the default device to be the connected device.

HiI've  bought T460s and two docking stations: one Ultra Dock and one Pro Dock (for home and office) as I typically do with ThinkPads. Unfortunately, on both of them there is a problem with external monitors to wake up when docking the notebook (different monitors here and there) - only the notebook display starts up, the external one stay blank. The HD Intel graphics card panel notifies about new DisplayPort configuration, the monitor got identified but cannot be activated. The only workaround so far is to restart the T460s instead of simple resume from standby. PS. Updated to the latest Ultra/Pro Dock firmware - doesn't help PS. Same monitors were used with old T520 with docking stations (prev generation) and worked well. How is yours? Any solutions you may propose? Thanks

I've been having some issues with dual display with a T440s and a 40A2009US Ultra Dock. OS is Windows 7 64 Enterprise. I two identical Dell LCDs connected to the dock. One via VGA and the other DVI. Both displays are being mirrored and I can't seem to change it. There is only one monitor listed in Device manager. Both external monitors will only display an image if the PC is started closed from the docking station power button. Removing the laptop and replacing it on the docking station does not wake the monitors and there is no image until the laptop is manually shutdown and restarted. I have updated graphics drivers, as well as any driver related to the dock (USB3.0 etc). I have tried a displayport to DVI connector as well, no go. After some research I discovered the firmare may need to be updated. The synaptics package from the lenovo support downloads site gave me the message that my firmware was already up to date. The other fwdphb06.exe that is recommended elsewhere would not update. When I double-click the package there is no install prompt or process being run. There is an external monitor connected to the dock. I have swapped the dock for another, as well as the power supplies for each. I'm stumped. Any idea what my issue may be?

Yesterday, I updated my T450s and, among other updates,I updated the Ultra Dock 90W firmare to version 2.29.00.  Afterward, when the laptop is docked, with the cover shut, and I try to power up the unit, it won't do so.  When I open the laptop in the dock, the power indicator is green and there is a green light on the function key.  No matter what I try, the machine won't power up after this.  If I force it to shut down and then try to power it up open instead, it powers up normally and both the laptop screen and the attached monitor work and, if I close the cover after, the attached monitor still works.  Obviously, I can use the machine docked with this work around, but I can't figure out why it won't work when I try to poweer it up closed.  I subsequently updated to version 2.30.00 and the behavior continues. What am I missing here?

Hello, I recently bought the Ultra Dock 90 for my T450s.  I have one external monitor currently connected through the dock.  When I push the power button on the docking station (laptop lid closed) to turn on the computer, the computer turns on, but the external monitor does not engage.  When I lift the laptop lid, there is no image on the laptop screen either.  The laptop is on, but does not respond to any key stokes on the actual laptop.  I then have to do a hard reboot using the power button on the laptop. If I initially power the laptop by lifting the lid and hitting the laptop power button, the compter boots and my external screen works.  I can then close the laptop lid and everything is fine. I know the power button on the dock should power the computer and external monitor on.  I am guessing there is a simple solution to resolve this, but I am not a computer person and need help. One thing to note - when I lift the lid after trying to power the laptop through the dock, I see that the Function Green Light is illuminated.  Not sure if this information is helpful in determining the problem. Please help! Peterrabbit33

I have a T460p (Window 10) in an ultradock and am unable to switch between 2nd output speakers (plugged into ultradock headphone port) and internal laptop speakers. The Realtek driver recognizes both "playback devices", but when the computer is docked there is absolutely no way to play any sound through the internal speakers, even if the external speakers are turned off. The only way to get the internal speakers to play is to physically unplug the external speakers from the ultradock, or undock the computer.  Is there any way around this? I don't always want to use my external speakers, especially when on a skype call etc. Tried reinstalling the Realtek driver to no avail. Should I just uninstall it altogether and use the default Windows audio drivers? I used to have a T440p (Windows 8.1) and I was able to switch between internal and external speakers easily when docked (via volume mixer > playback devices).
